One Down, and many more to go!

Emma had great fun at her little Birthday Party, and she was plenty tired by the time it was over. It turned out that there were only 5 other children there (two too young to realize what was happening), but more adults. I've read that some 1 yr. olds have an attention span of two to five minutes (that's the lucky ones). This gives you an idea how much work it is to keep them happy and occupied.

Actually, Emma will often play in her room for an hour or so by herself at a time, on a normal day (so I'd say I'm the lucky one).
At 1 year, they think it's fun to push, throw, and knock everything down. They supposedly like to put things in containers and dump them out again. Well in our case, Emma dumps them out and I put them back in. She's shown no interest in the clean up part of the process.

She can really trash that room of her's in that hour (or much less time, if necessary) of play. . I often call her a one girl 'demolition' crew. Taking that into consideration, I decided not to try to figure out where it would lead (as far as her future 'calling'), this early in the game. I'll need a lot more time to observe (and clean - Ha!).

I'll tell you one thing, she's getting a very cute and funny personality -- as a matter of fact , I often call her 'Ms. Personality'. We make each other laugh every day, and I see her practicing making faces like the rest of us. It's so funny to watch. In the pictures I'm posting from her Saturday party, I didn't capture many of those funny faces of hers, because we were around so many people, and so many new things were happening,. She was in a very cautious mood -- that's typical at her age.

The little blond boy in the picture with her is only 4 days younger than she is, and surprisingly, he was close to the same size (but about 5 or 6 lbs. heavier than her). Everyone is always tells me how petite Emma is, so I guess he is too. :)

Chloe,
Oh Chloe, those are the most darling pictures of Emma. She was even smiling in some. I just love this thread. Also, thank you for the pictures on photo bucket. She is such a picture perfect baby. I can't believe she actually plays in her room for an hour. That's great.
I sure hope I can be close to my grandchild. I sure wish they lived closer.

Darling pictures Chloe. She is such a cutie. Now that orange frosting was a little scary.

Hi Tony,
I read your post over at TM, saying you were in a good mood, and had just had post roast (your moms recipe!). I would love to see some of those pictures of your niece sometime Tony.

How old was she when she lived with you? She spent Christmas with you, didn't she?

Anonymous said...

Mary, Thank you so much for all the nice things you said. Do you have the exact due date that your grand-baby will be born? I don't think you'll know if it's a girl or boy until around 4 months old, if I remember correctly.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, Orange is her favorite color Carol. The cupcakes were all different colors. She actually threw up that cupcake an hour or so later, when we were eating lunch. All over me, by the way.

That was one of the security guards from the mall that was in one of those pictures, by the way. We wanted to keep him in a good mood, since we were making a little extra ruckus.

Are you enjoying all of those new TV stations Carol?

Carol said...

I starting to remember why I didn't really miss having all these channels. It takes forever just to find out what's on and then there is really nothing I want to watch. If any of you ever find something interesting on, let me know. I don't want to spend all my time flipping channels.

Chloe, Emma is a beautiful little girl. Now that she has passed her one year b'day she is a toddler. You can see her personality coming out even in the pictures. Emma looks like a flirt too. Better enjoy things now. When she gets to be about 13-14 you are going to have to watch out for the boys.I love the last one with their little bums. What gorgeous blue eyes she has.

jan said...

Carol, I feel the same way about all the channels. I watch Idol and Modern Family. I am tired of the medical shows - same old, same old. Not really that interesting any more. The Good Wife is sort of interesting. I would like to hear what others are watching these days too.

I've settled on Joy Behar Show right now while I ironed some clothes. Susie Orman was on. I'm ambivilent about Joy. Sometimes I like her and sometimes she irritates the hell out of me.

I didn't realize that Susie started as a waitress. From waitress to financial guru. Now that's a jump.

jan said...

Chloe, I just now found the photo bucket. Is that Emma's mother? If so, you can see where Emma gets those amazing blue eyes. Carol is right, that orange frosting is something else. I LOL when you said she threw up the cupcake. Not too funny to you I am sure. I love it that little kids just throw it right up. Great little GI tracts.

I remember years ago one of my grandsons had a b'day cake that had icing that was royal blue - the next morning, his poop was royal blue.
I loved the photo bucket.

My dad loved Susie Orman. He watched her show faithfully. He loved his money more than any of us. If he could have figured out a way to take it with him, he would have. I like Joy Behar. Have seen her mostly on "the View" I like they way she says whatever she thinks. Reminds me a little of someone else I used to know :)) I guess I still know her - after all these years.

Chloe,

It's like I said: Emma is a real beauty. I love all the pics of her. You can tell what she is thinking in them..and Jan is right...she is going to be a heart breaker...I went and took a look at all of the other pic's on the photo bucket.......very nice.!!!

Carol, Jan,

If you have dish network; look for the tv guide and study that instead of surfing....I haven't watched regular tv for years now; and don't plan to. There is too much on dish to pass up.

For instance, I used to look at the channels 9400 thru 9420 there are some University channels that are great, and there is one called Link...it is a great way to get to know people from diff, parts of the world...on weekends they have world music..during the day they have news...not pundits, and spinners of news. some of the other ones that I mentioned above at different times are great science information stations...they won't disappoint U if U have those...

jan said...

Hi Don1one, How is Florida? Are you warm enough? Exactly where are you?

Hi Solar, Dish network sounds interesting. I will have to check that out.

Don,

I just finished a nice insulation job, and it all went very well, I had to stop it twice b/c of slow pay...that's one thing that will have a lot of contractors in trouble...they don't know how to handle the paper work (contracts) that are a very important part of doing inside work, and any other work.....At the time of signing contracts for the work to be done..I am very specific about payment delay's and how they will effect the project..and follow up with daily reports...a paper trail, is half the battle...

I turned one down last week, I couldn't get enough information about financing...most people that I know of, think that it is going to get worse before it gets better....will see.! thanks..

I hate to say this because I might get killed by everyone here but I kinda enjoyed the cold, cold weather except for my 3 little visitors. I caught 3 little mousies but it was so sad. I guess I liked the cold weather because we rarely get it here. I remember going to Chicago in June and had to wear a jacket, but it was perfect. I had so much more energy.

Looks like we are going to get temps ranging from 31 to 41 degrees, with a lot of rain/snow mixed. It will be sorta messy, cos at night it does go down below freezing, and the roads will be icy...so ..??

Mary, I like some cold weather too. I like having 4 seasons. It does not get horribly cold here and the sun shines about 364/365 days a year, at least for a bit each day. I have never not been able to walk outside during the day.
I hear you about missing your son. When I lived in the Dallas/Arlington area for 3 years was the only time I have not lived close to at least one son and I won't do that again. I don't see them every week even - but I know they are here.

Saudi billionaire eyes new links with News Corp.

A Saudi billionaire whose investment firm is one of the biggest stakeholders in Citigroup and News Corp. says he is looking to expand alliances with the media giant.

Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, who was listed last year by Forbes as the world's 22nd richest person, met with News Corp.'s chief executive Rupert Murdoch on Jan. 14.

A statement issued Saturday by Alwaleed's Kingdom Holding Co. says the meeting "touched upon future potential alliances with News Corp."

Kingdom Holding said Alwaleed is the second largest stakeholder in News Corp. with a 5.7 percent stake in the media company.

Media reports have discussed the possibility that News Corp. would buy a stake in Alwaleed's Rotana Media Services, but neither company has yet to comment.

In Mercer Consultings annual Quality of Living Survey, Europe once again dominates the list of 215 countries around the world. The top three cities are, by rank, Vienna, Zurich (last years winner), and Geneva. Commonwealth nations fare pretty well, too, winning 9 of the top 30 spots—even though London comes in only at 38. The U.S. also fares poorly, barely making it into the top 30 with Honolulu and San Francisco in the bottom two places. The top city in Asia is Singapore, at no. 26. No cities from Africa or South America are in the top 30. The bottom? Baghdad once again comes in at 215.

Don, the best of luck with that job you are looking at.

Favorite foods. I love salads but I'm particular about my salads. Must have dark green and red leaf lettuce, spinach, little grape tomatoes, few capers, few cut up green olives, few salad peppers, some feta cheese and my EVOO and red vinagar dsg made with that garlic herb Good Season's package mix. If I have alvocado, I put some of that.

I like bussels, broccoli, cauliflower, turnip greens, spinach, squash and other similar veggies. I don't eat much fruit. I drink that V8 fusion and it has a combination of fruit and veggies full of antioxidants. In season, I like watermellon and cantaloupe.

I eat that salmon I mentioned at least three times a week and maybe some spicy baked lemon chicken or no meat for supper. Not very often I will make spagetti sauce or chili.

As far a fried food, the last time I cooked some fried food was when I fried up some of those crappy I caught. I like them covered with a spicy corn meal and fried up real crispy. Then drizzled with lemon. I consume a lot of lemons.

"On the eve of the first anniversary of President Obama's inauguration, it's become painfully obvious that elected officials are not going to save us. The 2008 election was all about "Hope." But Hope is simply not cutting it.

What we need is Hope 2.0: the realization that our system is too broken to be fixed by politicians, however well intentioned -- that change is going to have to come from outside Washington."

Now I don't think she explains how to do that. I still insist on a grass roots plan but someone needs to organize it. The candidates can't have any connection to big business or Wallstreet. No money from lobbiests and be someone like Elizabeth Warren. Too idealistic?

I drink distilled water. My thoughts are that they have to take everything out of it since it is used in things that can't have anything in it. I'll get my minerals from other places. I do think that that stuff they call Spring water often come from aquifers in places like Houston. Yuk.

If they had organic Pinks, I would buy a bunch of them...even keep some in the freezer.....

Carol said...

Solar, that's where the Internet could come in. Get people connected and harness all this anger. People are just going from one corrupt party back to the other, back and forth, looking for an honest person. Change must mean something besides going back and forth.

I don't see how we could ever expect for our needs to be protected when these politicians are getting most of their money from those who have different needs, to screw us. It ain't gonna happen.

Republican and Democrats need to realize that there is more that unites us than divides us and those crafty politicians keep playing up those less significant differences to control us all and to screw us all.

The Republicans played up the abortion issue so much but what did they really do, when they had a chance, to change that. I never believed that they ever really cared about it, it was just a red herring to keep their peeps under their control.

Carol said...

Well Solar, your out of luck here. Most of us pinks don't care for the cold, and especially not a freezer.

don1one said...

Some places the water is just about undrinkable it tastes so bad. Phoenix is like that. I really miss the tap water in Loveland, CO. Straight off the glaciers and absolutely delicious.

Thanks all.

"Republican and Democrats need to realize that there is more that unites us than divides us"

.... that happening seems pretty hard to believe Carol. If you doubt it, all you have to do is look in at TM every so often.

The political parties are like teams. Teams that have become enemies. It's almost a sport.

Solar, what in the world did you mean by that?

Solar said...

Carol,

Thats true about the internet...and also about frozen pinks; will have to think about both of these...but thawing them out would have not been a problem...

Anonymous said...

I agree Don. People wouldn't be buying bottled water if the tap water wasn't so chlorinated.

At our house it's not because we're on a well and it's very good water. But I'd never dream of drinking unfiltered tap water in town. Yuk. I hate the taste of chlorine.

I think some people buy all that bottled water to take the place of drinking too many sodas. I don't drink much water either, but I want to start drinking more.

An example of the anger that is starting to
show among the liberal faction of the dem. party. Saw this over at Talking Points
Memo from its founder, Josh Marshall...the very early returns in MA are not looking good for Coakley...but only a smidge
of votes so far...

"Just Shut Up!
Message of the day to all Dems, Coakley, Rahm, Celinda Lake, national Dem committees, Axelrod, whoever, whatever: Shut the *$%& Up! I don't know how else to say it. I'm watching MSNBC and hearing all the key players dumping on each other. As I've said, the Coakley campaign seems to have been run just terribly. And that's just the beginning of it. But really, with all that's at stake, the White House political office left this to Coakley, unsupervised? Really? I just have very little patience hearing all the people who are by definition all to blame have an argument about who's most to blame.

What I'm seeing -- and this isn't just based on public comments but our reporting behind the scenes -- is that there's a lot more energy going into dodging blame for this unforced error of galactic proportions than there is going into the real issue: closing the loop on the health care bill. Which is the only issue in policy terms and political terms. That's it. Everything else is water under the bridge.

And the key is this: this nonsense arguing is very reminiscent of 6 months of chatter and wasted negotiations that prevented this from getting done in the early summer instead of letting it get to this point. Which was n-e-e-d-l-e-s-s.

--Josh Marshall"

Meanwhile over at National Review, they are just giddy.....from Jim Gerraty, Campaign Spot...

"Obama Towns Are Flipping To Scott Brown. Early Night, Folks.

In 2008, Ashland, Massachusetts went for Obama over McCain, 5,039 votes to 3,181.

Tonight Brown won Ashland 54 percent to 45 percent - 3,467 for Brown while Coakley carried 2,897.

You can call it, folks."

Coreen, good posts!
It seems like 'blame' is becoming a way of life for the Democrats now. I say this, because they're the party in power. I just don't get it.

I just hate it when people have excuses for everything, instead of just taking responsibility, learning from their mistakes, and moving on.

Carol said...

What does this Brown have Coreen, beside a pretty good looking body 30 years ago?

It now seems like all our elections have become a protest against the current ruling party. We have to something to all stand for instead of just something to protest against.

Solar said...

Chlo,

I would have to see the post, but if you take the sports-team mentality that goes on; a win at all cost mentality; that is what I mean.

The owners of baseball, for instance have a lot of money that they pay in order to get the best players that they can...the players are beholding to the owners, and will do anything to win, anything at all.

The other side is the same way, they also do the exact same things...some times they die doing it, they sacrifice everything to be successful, but the most important thing to them, is to win at all cost. They the owners don't care about the fans, they care about the $ that the fans provide, and supply us with the entertainment...same with our two party system..they are just like the owners..the Dnc and Rnc are like the leagues National, and American. Meanwhile the fans, choose one or the other, The D's and the R's and stand by them no matter what they do....when they win, they are happy, and when they loose, they are planning on how to win, even if it hurts the voting public, the only thing that matters to the people that buy the tickets to watch, is winning, at all costs, they don't care about the people that doesn't have tickets...sorry for going on, and on...

GOP's Brown takes slight lead in close Mass. race

"A loss — or even a narrow victory — by the once-favored Coakley for the seat that the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy held for nearly half a century in this Democratic stronghold could signal big political problems for the president's party this fall when House, Senate and gubernatorial candidates are on the ballot nationwide.

More immediately at stake was a critical 60th vote for Democrats to save their health care legislation and the rest of Obama's agenda. A 41st Republican in the 100-member Senate could allow the GOP to block the president's priorities with filibusters." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100120/ap_on_el_se/us_massachusetts_senate

Ain't going to happen. The US population is too soft and ignore most of what's happening.

Those that do pay attention are divided on silly idealogical points.

The laws are written to keep out third party candidates from debates and other public venues.

It's the end of the empire, and we're going into an unrecoverable death spiral.

I like fuji and lake arrowhead water. The lake arrowhead water comes from a spring that has been capped and a hydrant installed. I've seen them filling the trucks.

Oldsea at TM expresses much of the frustration

Not only do they not understand, they're not interested in understanding. They have a different agenda, and you have to be a member of the 'team' to know what it is.

Hillary had to overcome years and years of bad press from the Repubs. I heard the people down here, that didn't have a clue about Hillary repeat the Repub talking points about her. They were brainwashed for years. It is amazing that she did as well as she did up against that.

When the people I worked with would repeat one of those talking points I would ask them to explain what they meant by what they said. That shut them up real fast.

Solar said...

Thanks Coreen, for posting the race...let the finger pointing start now.

Carol, I think that the Clintons made a lot of mistakes...but they alway's seemed to think about the small people. I think that is because he grew up poor. That is one of the reasons that the elite Republican crowd hated about him....he made them look in that mirror that I alway's talk about...and they saw themseleves...they did not like what they saw, and hated him for it.

Having said that..I would not want Hillary to run again..she is too much establishment for my last now also.....hey who is the Bush that will run for potus the next time around?? ok now will keep quiet...

don1one said...

I think both Bush and Obama cared when they started. Then the ran face first into a system that wouldn't let them do anything but what big business wanted them to.

Patriotism is one way to put it Chloe. We have dropped into an ennui stupor fed by reality shows and drugs.

We're 25th in the world in math, and dropping. We have over a 50% divorce rate and kids are growing up in front of tv's and video games. The average toddle sees 7 hours of tv a day, national pediatricians recommend no tv for children under 2.

we're losing our social skills because we no longer play games with each other, we live online where there are no difficulties and learning negotiation.

We live anonymously in cities and aren't held responsible for our actions.

Our politicians are making deals with businesses so they can get out and make a killing as lobbyists.

It won't happen overnight because we have a lot inertia, but all the signs are there.

100% agree with this...she would not have pushed anything to weaken the system anymore than it has been..and she would not be spending so much on increasing the areas of war...
