FORCES OF CHANGE NOW TARGET OBAMA

Why can't we all
just get along?

The failure to understand how anti-establishment the country has become is a big part of the problem.... A Year Later, Voters Send a Different Message

For lack of an original (better) thought, am quoting someone elses:
"Republican Scott Brown’s eye-opening victory in Massachusetts Tuesday has unmistakably framed the problem for President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party: The same forces of disgust with establishment politicians and hunger for change in Washington that vaulted Obama to power 14 months ago can be harnessed with equal success by people who want to stop his agenda in its tracks.

"When there's trouble in Massachusetts, rest assured , there's trouble everywhere..... "One thing is very, very clear......People do not want the trillion-dollar health care plan that is being forced on the American people, and this bill is not being debated openly and fairly. It will raise taxes, it will hurt Medicare, it will destroy jobs and run our nation deeper in to debt."

"Anyone who's been out on the campaign trail, particularly in this race, has seen the anger of folks who are frustrated, concerned..... They are angry about health care issues, and they're angry about our two wars.."

.... some top Republicans acknowledge that the cantankerous electorate isn’t exactly running into the GOP’s arms, but rather projecting on Washington's ruling party their disgust with the political status quo." http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0110/31703.html

Carol! Would love to hear your opinion on this (although I'm fairly certain what it will be :):

Groundbreaking New Survey Finds that Diverse Opinion Leaders Say Nurses Should Have More Influence on Health Systems and Services

"Nurses are highly trusted sources of health care information, but as we look to reform our health system, our nation is not taking advantage of all that nurses have to offer," said Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, M.D. M.B.A., president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. "This survey shows that opinion leaders recognize that we are squandering opportunities to learn from nurses and implement their ideas. We must build on the widespread trust of nurses' expertise as an essential component in leading and implementing reform." http://news.yahoo.com/s/usnw/20100120/pl_usnw/DC40180_1

Chloe,

I think that the indpendents were listened to. What The D's need to do is to keep the Greedy Wall st. Ceo's in the news, and get the economy going..they have to listen to the angry people that lost their homes, and jobs...

That nurse link a a very good one, thanks. I would think that it would be obvious that we need the input of the nurses..we have 3 of them in our family, and they work super hard....and know a lot of the problems that we have now....one of the biggest bitches, is the paper work that is involved for every little thing....U never did tell us how many cupcakes U ate the other day...my guess...is 12-1/2

The problem being that getting to big leadership positions require a huge ego, and by the time they get there the politicians think they already know all the answers.

It would be nice to go back to citizen politicians, not the family based oligarchy we have now. I doubt that will happen.

DISPATCHES FROM AMERICA
Going rogue in combat boots
By William J Astore

The wars in distant lands were always going to come home, but not this way.

It's September 2016, year 15 of America's "Long War" against terror. As weary troops return to the homeland, a bitter reality assails them: despite their sacrifices, America is losing.

Iraq is increasingly hostile to remaining occupation forces. Afghanistan is a riddle that remains unsolved: its army and police forces are untrustworthy, its government corrupt, and its tribal leaders unsympathetic to the vagaries of US intervention. Since the Obama surge of 2010, a trillion more dollars have been devoted to Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, and other countries in the

A public conditioned to act like sheep, to "support our troops" no matter what, to cower before the idea of terrorism, is a public ready to be herded. A military that's being used to fight unwinnable wars is a military prone to return home disaffected and with scores to settle.

Angry and desperate veterans and mercenaries already conditioned to violence, merging with "tea baggers" and other alienated groups, could one day form our own Freikorps units, rioting for violent solutions to national decline. Recall that the Nazi movement ultimately succeeded in the early 1930s because so many middle-class Germans were scared as they saw their wealth, standard of living, and status all threatened by the Great Depression.

If our great recession continues, if decent jobs remain scarce, if the mainstream media continue to foster fear and hatred, if returning troops are disaffected and their leaders blame politicians for "not being tough enough," if one or two more terrorist attacks succeed on US soil, wouldn't this country be well primed for a coup by any other name?

Don't expect a "Seven Days in May" scenario. No American Caesar will return to Washington with his legions to decapitate governmental authority. Why not? Because he won't have to.

As long as we continue to live in perpetual fear in an increasingly militarized state, we establish the preconditions under which Americans will be nailed to, and crucified on, a cross of iron.

The rest of this article is very, very interesting.!!

That's the scary part. There's no doubt the US is a nation in decline. The question is what happens to all of the weapons as we start getting weaker. Any one of which could destroy a good sized nation.

At least our two fastest growing competitors, India and China, historically have no ambitions to empire.

don1one said...

Do you have a separate card or is it built into the motherboard? Probably built in, but it could be a loose card.

Windows Start Button, Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Systems.

Click on the audio tab and see what your default audio device is. If that looks right go over to hardware, select your device and click on troubleshoot.

That should walk your through a series of tests to try and isolate your problem.

I'm assuming you're sure your plug in devices are working, you're audio isn't muted, and everything else should be working.

Thanks, I will try those later.....

Anytime I've lost sound on my computer, it's almost always been a setting got changed somehow (like a mute button pushed). Your help menu will run a diagnostic for you, if you go to it off the start menu, then type in something like audio diagnostic, something similar to that. It'll give you a link to hit, and then check it for you.

Good Evening. Ya'll gave me too much homework today with all those links. They were interesting though.

Solar I did my workout again today but I still didn't want to. My legs were heavy and lazy but I just keep pushing forward. It's easier when I do it first thing in the morning but I'm not going to squeeze that in on work days. I like to wake up slow.

Chloe, that article about nurses was interesting. I do agree that input from nurses would be very valuable. They do have their hands in just about every aspect of health care except the till. And since nurses don't often profit or lose profit from building a better system, you can better trust their input.

As far as: "Gallup historically has found nursing ranked among the most ethical and honest professions by the nation's adult",
I think that is more historical.

Back in the day, nurses came into the profession mainly to help the unfortunate. They made lots of sacrifices, worked like dogs, and made very little money. That perception may be based on that history. These days we are no different than the rest of the professions, no better, no worse.

Also, maybe that memory of the "angel in white" influenced that perception. You seldom ever see a nurse in white anymore.

Solar, One last thing that 'may' be worth mentioning. A while back I got some new speakers for my desk top, and I plugged them into the back of my tower, they worked for a while, then stopped. Ya know with the Dems health care agenda, I never understood what the benefits of their proposal were and I'm not like most of the population around my neck of the woods, just watching American Idol and the Batchlor. I do read and watch some of the news even though a lot less of it than before.

If I'm going to be one of those who will be footing the bill for this legislation, I think I need to understand it and agree to it.

I did hear plenty, on Network commercials, many times each night, how bad this health care proposal would be. Those commercials, I think, were financed by the insurance industry. They did their homework.

I can't see anything President Obama and his gang have done to help those of us who are going to be footing the major part of the bill for our government. Nothing either to stop the highway robbery of all our hard earned savings we hoped to use to finance our old age so we wouldn't be so dependent on the government. They just rewarded those robbers with more of our hard earned money.

Obama and the Dems just want to help out the very rich and the very poor and stick it to those of us in the middle who foot the bill. That's not the change I wanted but I really never expected that he had much of that to offer anyway. I was sure of it very early when he selected Timmy boy for SOT.

Carol said...

Ivy, the real reason I'm doing this exercise every day is so I won't feel so guilty eating that 4 heaping tablespoons of Blue Bell homemade vanilla ice cream with the shaved chocolate and toasted pecan on top. Thinking about that treat helps me get through my program. There's just got to be a reward.

don1one said...

Supposedly you can't be denied or dropped and there's no lifetime caps. But the insurance companies got one heck of a deal. Everyone required to buy insurance or the IRS comes after you, and the drug industry gets guarantees that their outrageous US prices won't be attacked.

Overall, I don't like the bill. They've taken out just about anything I'm interested in and started a new tax that goes straight to private companies.

Ivy Green said...

They never care what kind of cake as long as it's not stale cake.

Carol said...

If I had to vote right now, I'd vote against the health care proposal. I don't like this, we'll throw something together to say we did something and then fix it later. Get it right now or don't do it at all.

I think that if they tried, they could clean up the abuse of Medicaid and Medicare and offer those as a public options. There is a tremendous amount of abuse of both. I've seen lots of that first hand.

One of my friend's mom has dozens of Docs because health care is the only social life she has. Many of her Docs are foreign and they are ripping off Medicare right and left. They order dupicate tests, send her to some other specialist Doc, most likely a friend, who continues this rip off, over and over. Where are the checks and balances in the system?

This woman is mildly demented but she even realizes some of what they are doing but just keeps on seeing them. She has no other life. A couple of times she even changed Docs but then it started all over again. If this is happening to one woman, it's happening all over the country with millions of others. I can't even imagine how much money could be involved in this kind of abuse. This lady is fairly healthy for a 76 yo.

I have to agree about the stale cake Ivy. Most cake is good as long as it's fresh. And great for breakfast. Plenty of time to burn it off.

The problem with those sugar free ice creams, etc., is that they have just as many calories as the real stuff. I don't necessarily agree that sugar is the root of all evil for everyone.

Simon will be there for this whole season, but you can tell he's losing what little patience he had with the crazy people.

Modern Family was good also. They showed the pilot earlier of Modern Family. It was the best one so far.

Hey guys with that Idol show, you know that the more outrageous, the more likely they will get their 15 minutes of fame. I'm sure that's what the people with no talent for singing are doing. It's probably just a bad acting job.

I move, and copyright the idea, that they start a program called American Idiot. That one would beat all the others. And you never know, they might find one who can sing.

Carol said...

With my satelitte back, I do get to see the more entertaining Idol bloppers.

I could never understand that, pants on the ground, fad Jan. It's so ugly. It steals from all the other clothing mishaps, the worst being the, fat plumber's ass hanging out, look.

The fad started with gangs/criminals, most likely so the wearer could fill up that area between the crouch of the pants and the real crouch with stolen goods or guns. I'm constantly telling my guys to pull their pants up.

Carol said...

I'm starting to feel the calling to read some gardening and fishing magazines. Spring is a coming.

"The fad started with gangs/criminals, most likely so the wearer could fill up that area between the crouch of the pants and the real crouch with stolen goods or guns. I'm constantly telling my guys to pull their pants up."

Wow! I am glad to know this. I have one grandson who wears his pants low - but do not drag the ground. I may tell him where this fad originated. We (all of his family) try to be patient about this but my patience is wearing thin. He is a junior at the university in accounting. He is a really smart kid too and nice. His parents watch "Idol" too so I am hoping he gets the message from the song.

don1one said...

I don't think the pants is any different from long hair in the 60s. Anything to irritate the old people, and it works.

I feel so guilty about not having any guilty pleasures I'm going to go to Dunkin' Donuts. Not big on donuts, but that way I'll feel part of the crowd. Kind of like low hanging pants. :^)

Carol said...

Jan, that baggy style has got a name. It's called "sagging" and it started because inmates usually had loose fitting pants and were not given belts. They couldn't get a belt because they didn't want them to hang themselves or anyone else.

As unattractive as it is, it caught on outside of prison with gangs first. I wouldn't put it in the same category as some of the other styles that young people have had in the past because those fads didn't start in prison. Where it is similar, is that it irritates the authority figures.

Jan, tell you grandson he is mimicking prison wear, not exactly something to be proud of even thought there are some of the punks who do consider going to jail/prison a badge of honor.

I do think it is neat that that old black guy from Idol has pointed out that it is plain dumb even though it won't make any difference. Those young guys have to walk around all day long pulling their pants up. The waist barely covers the penis. They almost have to have an erection just to hold up those pants.

And another amusing fact, many of the punks end up getting caught when they try to run from the police cuz they can't keep their pants on or they trip over them or over those shoe strings they don't tie.

Good thing this week is almost over because my punk tolerance is just about at run out. I had two mega jerks today to put up with. One female and one guy. Both yelled at me because they couldn't order me to do what they wanted. Go figure.

The guy wanted this antihistamine we use. It was becoming obvious that he was abusing it and didn't need it. Since he requested it so often and it has a mild sedating effect, I ordered another antihistamine, a better one, with no sedating effect. That one is Claritin. He didn't want that one even though is is more expensive and effective.

He got so mad at me he said f--k you, you won't give me what I ask for. I smiled and said this is not Burger King and you can't have it your way. I just kept smiling as he stormed out. I did write him up but I doubt anyone in security will do a thing about it. I still got the last laugh and I took my little walk outside.

No one who came in after that jerk gave me any trouble. They said good morning, how are you this morning.

Carol said...

It's 81 right now and beautiful. Couldn't ask for any better weather.

jan said...

Carol, I am about to pee my pants laughing at your description of your job responsibilities and the guy who wanted the antihistamine. How funny. I love your burger king comment. I bet they get ticked at you b/c you have such great "comebacks" to their demands.

I always wondered if a guy had to have an erection to keep those pants up. What I notice is when they wear their pants so low - they walk sort of bow legged - which sort of keeps the sides of their legs attached to their pants to keep them from falling down. What gets me is - do the girls think this is attractive? Maybe that does not matter to the guys??

jan said...

"I feel so guilty about not having any guilty pleasures I'm going to go to Dunkin' Donuts. Not big on donuts, but that way I'll feel part of the crowd. Kind of like low hanging pants. :^)"

Don, I like donuts - don't ever need an excuse to have a donut.

Ivy, I went to Kroger's today to pay my electric bills and unfortunately remembered I was out of ice cream. I was planning on buying some of the vanilla yogart. I compared the regular ice cream, yogart and that No sugar, low fat you have. The regular was 160 cals/half a cup, yogart 110cals and No sugar was 100 cals. I got the no sugar one.

Another unfortunate thing was the half gallon was only 40 cents more than the smaller one because of a sale. I had to go for the half gallon. Can't pass up a sale.

jan said...

Don, as long as the kids kept their hair neat looking and clean, I had no problem with my boys having longer hair. The problem came at school. They could not have longer hair at school. The low hanging pants and pants on the ground is just downright vulgar and nasty looking (my opinion):))

Carol said...

Looks like Obama got the message that the people are pissed. He finally went after Wallstreet. A little late I would say. Timmy wasn't happy.

jan said...

81 degrees. That is just no fair. I has been in the 30's here all day.

jan said...

oops it is 41 here.

Ivy, yum. is it Blue Bell?

don1one said...

Where's Solar? He thought i was getting away with something when I mentioned adult toys.

The pants has passed way beyond the gangsta thing. I saw a guy today that had his pants on the bottom of his butt where the hip joint flexes. i don't really care though, it's not affecting me.

And if you look at the age of the boys doing it, I'll guarantee they have a hanging peg half the time. At that age your veins run testosterone and a little blood.

don1one said...

Obama will never get the new rules through congress if we don't call up and complain to senators and reps to support him.

Our Congress is the best money can buy.

Carol said...

Corporations can spend freely on political speech.
The Supremes.

Now they can go full force after anyone who dares to challenge their power. We're toast people!

Solar said...

Yo, yo, Bro, What do U know.

Im not a gang banger, and I don't wear my pant's down below.

The way some of these guys walk around, they should put on a show....some of these nuts just want to be in a porno u know.!

HA.! I will never be a rapper.!!!

Solar said...

Forgot, Carol, U funny.!

Solar said...

Wearing Your pants down so low; is ok now, cos the supreme' s said so....it is just a form of free s peach no?

Solar said...

speech that is

Carol said...

Can we impreach the Supreme Court?

Carol said...

That's impeach.

Solar said...

Maria,

Looks like we can have free speech, but who the hell is listening to me....it must be the b. o. again....

Solar said...

No, U had it right...impreach them suckers...that sound like it would hurt.....real bad.!

Carol said...

Solar, can you recommend a nice town in Mexico?

Carol said...

This wasn't a good time to get the satelitte back. Ignorance is bliss! I'm actually listening to KO. He's fixing to have a special comment about that Supreme Corrupt decision.

Solar said...

Carol,
Not any more. It has been awhile since I had any communication with anyone there.....Pogo, goes every year and might be able to recommend one....

I will ask my brother Rick, he was the last one there.

Carol said...

My satelitte recieve just put a message on my TV screen saying it was going to turn itself off due to inactivity. I had to say No to keep it on. Am I suppose to take it for a walk or something?

Carol said...

Keith's special comment is good.

Carol said...

But not all of it.

don1one said...

I'm looking at costa rica or panama. Maybe cypress. I've been planning on retiring out of the country for a while.

If you combine today's decision with the eminent domain decision then indentured servitude is just around the corner

All the smartest people are already leaving. There's been a brain drain for a while

Carol said...

You were right Don. We are headed in a downward spiral. Remind me why I want to exercise and eat healthier? So I can stick around longer to see how this all turns out?

Solar said...

Costa Rica. They must have something right...they live the longest on average, than anyone else...when we going?...

Carol said...

Send pics Don.

Solar said...

Don, I didn't even mention it over at tm...but the party that relaxed, responsible for the decision that the supremes made..is-are the Democrats..they opened up the door in 1993...who was the potus then??

Solar said...

Caro,

My idea to stick around, is just to find out how science is going to figure it all out...they will U know.....there is so much going on, that we don't even know about...

don1one said...

You want to be in good health so you can defend yourself?

There was a really good book written decades ago that predicted a lot of this. 2018 or the King Kong Blues. Out of print but worth a read. Even predicted the popularity of shows like Fear Factor.

A friend just told me that CR is shooting for zero CO2 emissions by 2014. They have universal health care and no standing army.

I'm not saying that the US is the worst government, just that we're trending the wrong way.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I caught part of Keith's "impreach-ment" speech. He must have been a Shakespearean actor in a past life...like during Shakespeare's time. lol

Carol said...

Congress can makes laws to limit what corporations can do but will they?

Carol said...

Ms Warren is on Rachael. The voice of reason.

Carol said...

I agree Ivy.

I liked what I heard from Obama today. And Ms Warren did also.

Solar said...

I refuse to watch msnbc...been two yrs now......not matter who is on there...I do like her very much tho.!

Carol said...

There is still time for Obama to redeem himself and today was a good start.

Carol said...

I did like most of what Keith had to say in his special comment. He could have left out a few of his digs.

Solar said...

It doesn't matter what Obama has to say, he won't be forgiven by the 100 of k's that he promised to help, in the bankruptcy courts...he is a little too late, for a Grover Cleveland moment imo, but late is better than never, also?

Carol said...

Chloe, where are you?

Carol said...

Did ya'll read about C-Bob's Shelter Box idea. I like that idea, a shelter in a box. Ivy, the concept started in England. I've decided that is where I will put some of my Haiti donation if C-Bob will send me the address for where to send my donation. I prefer to send a check and not use a credit card.

Carol said...

Oh boss, I did do my exercises today. Maggie has been pulling some silly stuff to try to get out of hers. She made this little yelp and tried to pretend she pulled a muscle or something, half way down the road. There was nothing wrong with her. When we turned around, she pranced back to the house.

Religious groups are thrilled about today's ruling. Now they can advertise against pro-rights and gay marriage politicians.

Carol said...

I don't think even they will be happy about it in the long run, Don.

don1one said...

Religious extremists are never happy. They like it that way.

Carol said...

Fishing, flowers, birds, there's got to be something happier to think about. I just switched my channel to America's Funniest Home Videos. I'm met my doom and gloom limit today.

Carol said...

Ivy, you need to check out that new E-Trade commercial with the little toddler. Has anyone seen it? It's killer. The toddler is talking to a grown up this time instead of another little kid and says something like, let me show you my shocked look, then he makes this funny face. I just love those commercials.

Carol said...

Solar, I missed a few of the comments earlier. Did you make up that rap you wrote? That was good. You missed your callin.

Enjoy your donuts Jan? My no sugar, low fat ice cream was yummy. Couldn't even tell it was healtier under those chocolate shavins and pecans.

don1one said...

I didn't have a donut. went for a low fat blueberry muffin. I just can't do pure junk.

Came back for the blackberries in my fridge.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
We saw the new one. Hubs loves those E-Trade baby commercials: "Maybe you should try reading the rules, Shank-o-potomus." lol

Carol said...

Ivy, I don't remember the Shank-O-Potomus one. I just looked it up. Don't know how I missed that one. Here's the new one if anyone needs a laugh.

New E-Trade Baby-Lottery

Carol said...

Ivy, I was on my exercise thingy when I saw that commercial yesterday and almost fell off laughing. Did the writers of those commercials win anything?

Sometimes I remember the commercials but don't remember what they were advertising. Like the one where theses guys were trying to take down a hornets nest. One guys is holding a garbage can, the other on a ladder cutting down the hive. The guy ends up falling, head first, into the garbage can with the hive. Anyone remember that one?

I did catch some of the Daily Show last night. I have my little TV in the bedroom set to record it on the DVR. I was mostly asleep when it was on but Jon Stewart mocked Keith in a Special Comment. I will have to watch it again today when I'm awake. He pointed out just how vicious Keith is. He got him good. Reminded me why I quit watching Keith. He's as bad as Rush.

You can go to the Daily Show Online and watch it if you didn't see it. It was a great show last night. You need to see it. Wait for the Jan 21 episode to come up. Not up there yet.

Carol said...

I'm watching the show again and Jon has Keith down. It is exactly why many of us have stopped watching Keith. Spot on!

Carol said...

The Daily Show and Colbert is where I need to get my news. As sad as it is, they both can make it palatable by pointing out just how stupid it all is.

Carol said...

What Keith has tried to do with his cable news program is try to merge a left version of Rush L with a Daily Show kind of news coverage. It hasn't worked.

Chloe, hope everything is OK with you. Coreen, you too. Did we get too political for you guys. Do we need to get back to our roots or rather our Swamp mud?

Coreen said...

Here's the Jon Stewart on Olberman video....

Carol, I am looking forward to seeing pics of your camp and some fish.

I woke up to sounds of rain this morning and thought I was back in Louisiana or Arkansas. I am dosoriented now. We need this rain. I see where Calif is getting much needed rain too but have worries of flooding now. Poor calif. if it isn't wildfires, its flooding.

I love the rain, but can't get out to walk Lobie. She looks depressed. She knows when it rains she doesn't get her morning walk.

jan said...

LOL dosoriented=disoriented.

uh-hoh, our rain has turned to snow - but its 34 degrees,so it melts as soon as it hits the ground. Just gotta love Albuquerque.

Anonymous said...

Carol, I love it here no matter what everyone is discussing. As far as I'm concerned, you guys can do (or say) no wrong.

I just had some things come up yesterday, and couldn't get on line.

Anonymous said...

I didn't even know about the Supreme Court decision, until I got here this morning. Unbelievable.

don1one said...

jan,
your area is getting so much rain I'm wondering if this is going to another good Death Valley Spring. It might be a great time to get to Paria Canyon too. I was out there in 2005, and it was just gorgeous. Even the desert from Phoenix to the California state line was blooming.

I'm wondering what Keith's response will be. Keith usually takes spoofs of him pretty good, but there were some zingers like the way Michelle Malkin was treated. Malkin has toned it down since the elections though. She used to be pretty OCD on topics. She and I actually had a twitter discussion on that.

I watch a few minutes of all three news channels, but not much of any. The way producers are moving from Beck to Joy to Keith shows how they're all just performances, that there's no real idealogical difference.

Congressman Larry Kissell dedicated his weekly column to civility. There may be a few sane voices out there, but they're small right now.

Interesting to hear CNBC discussing whether or not Bernanke will make it. Ron Paul's message on transparency of the Fed seems to be catching on.
