Carol,

You didn't think I'd fail you today.....And the
consensus up this way, is while maybe the Cards
have more experience, the Saints in the Dome,
with the home field edge will be victorious..

Carol said...

Thanks Coreen! I was going to try to put up a post but couldn't get past the title. I was afraid to put up any artwork because was afraid of some copyright infringement. Glad the attorney did it.

And I hope you are right Coreen. Ya'll better be around at game time to give me some support.

Carol said...

Coreen, I threw out a wishful thought for someone to put up the Post for me and you caught the pass and ran for the touchdown.

Solar said...

Coreen,

very nice timing...I was just going to ask Don what all the noise was about this morning....geez, can't you pinks just give him a little smooch and get him out the door??...luck Don, hope all goes well.

Carol,

There is only one way to get ready for a home play off game...and that is going to the pub with a friend, it is one of the times....that it is ok to be a little silly....

The second way is staying at home, and getting all of the right preparation ready for the game.....now what u have to do is find a place...move some funiture around...find the end zone where you will be doing those goofy dances that they do...and room for the back flips...pics please

Now you will have to have some snacks...(we will work them off later on-right?) oops i almost typed snakes...

There is more..but maybe Maria can do them; with you...are U and her watching the game together?

Solar said...

U and she?

Coreen said...

Carol, not to worry, will be nearby...remember
'you gotta' believe'....

Do you have your Saints gear ready, are you watching the game with friends or alone?

And whatever the outcome,(I do think they will win) your team has given you lots of joy & fun, and I know, lots of agida too, but it is all worth it in the end....

Coreen said...

Hi Solar,

We are having a heatwave, yesterday & today,
40+ & sunny....even took the lights & ornaments off the tree on the porch, but it
still has ice in its holder...won't drag it
into the woods for quite awhile, grass is still
snow covered, but expecting rain tommorrow, courtesy of those southerners.....

Solar said...

Oh and don't have Maggie anywhere near U...U just might slam dunk her when the Saints score a touchdown....she might seem like a football to U....

Hey lets have a sip of beer, or shot of tequila or something....good excuse to get you pinks drunk so I..............................................

Solar said...

every time they score that should read...a shot every time they score...

Solar said...

Morning mz C.

It has been the same way here...all of the snow is sorta melting away, and will be gone with the rain that is on the way...I think that this has been a pretty warm Jan. so far...once into Feb....it's all down hill no?

Carol said...

I've been invited other places to watch the game but I will stay out here at the Swamp to watch. I have plenty of room for dancing Solar but I'll pass on those back flips.

Speaking of callings this morning, I just listened to a interview with Brees on ESPN videos. He said when he came to NO, after recovering from a shoulder injury and to a city trying to recover from Katrina, he felt it was a calling. I'll take that as a good omen.

Carol said...

Waiting for my plumber to call. It's pouring outside right now but he said he will just come by to see what he is going to need. I told him that he'd better do it before the game. He said it would definitely be before the game.

Solar said...

Sorry that didn't sound right....so I........nothing.!

Solar said...

Hey Don,

Check in once in a while.....

jan said...

uh oh! I have been posting comments over on the last post. Silly me.

jan said...

Coreen, great post. I am so glad your weather is warming up. You have had a deep freeze. Doesn't sun feel good after that kind of weather.

jan said...

Mary, are you a big fan of the Saints too? I don't remember from past comments and too lazy to look.

Does Jeremy know what the baby's gender is? I can't remember when they can tell by the ultrasound.

Carol said...

Jan, I went back to see what you wrote on the other post and you said we see the signs when we pay attention. Sometimes, God has to slam me down and break something for me to get the message. Probably my ADD.

Solar said...

Almost game time. If the Saints beat the Cardinals; does that mean that they are Bishops??

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
Saints already outrank Cardinals. But if the Cardinals beat the Saints, they get promoted to Archangels. lol

Solar said...

Carol, Im dancing with U honey.... watch that hip.....are U doing the end zone dance?

Carol said...

Get up and dance.

Carol said...

I'm dancing. I can't sit down.

I think that is the best Bush has ever played.

Solar,
I am also intrigued by "beginnings." For those who don't frequent TM, here is the exchange Solar and I were referring to:

"The words of the oldest Hebrew text yet discovered have been revealed. May be four centuries older than the previous texts...perhaps not amazingly, they still resonate.

1' you shall not do [it], but worship the [Lord].
2' Judge the sla[ve] and the wid[ow] / Judge the orph[an]
3' [and] the stranger. [Pl]ead for the infant / plead for the po[or and]
4' the widow. Rehabilitate [the poor] at the hands of the king.
5' Protect the po[or and] the slave / [supp]ort the stranger."

"Ivy- that last line, support the stranger, really resonates this week. Posted by: oldseahag"

"Sea -- It really does, and I can make a case for the other verses too, if you consider broader definitions for the word 'judge,' such as 'lead' and/or 'hear.' Posted by: ivygreen.myopenid.com "

"Absolutely Ivy, thanks for the thoughtful post. Posted by: oldseahag"

Am I the only one not convinced when George says they'll make sure every penny of the donations gets spent honestly?

I made it to somewhere around Ardick, GA. It's been pouring all afternoon, so when I pulled over to get a sandwich the motel next door looked too inviting to say goodbye to.

Pretty sleepy tonight, so I'm not going to stay on long. Hope everyone had a great day. Hear saints are kicking tail. Good luck on your plumbing Carol.

Lunch tomorrow with friends, then the beaches of south Florida. Yay!

Solar,
What ever happened to usury with the Christians? Credit card rates have officially called usurial since Capital One took them up to 18% or something. I'm sure Coreen knows the whole story. The pious choose and pick the rules they like best, making sure the inconvenient ones aren't counted in.

Solar said...

Don,

Thats what Im talking about. During the game; there were at least 4 credit card commercials...enticing users by saving them money the more they used them....

Glad that U made it ok...get some rest..Pops..

I knew I'd better get everything done before I started talking Carol. I'm tired, and will probably only stay on long enough to catch up on the posts.

Carol said...

Did everything turn out well Chloe?n Did Emma have fun?

Carol said...

And did she realize that she was the center of attention?

Anonymous said...

Solar said... "I bet that Chloe, is glad that we are out of that butt thread...and she knew exactly what she was doing, when she posted it......she ain't foolin me none...."

Well Solar, I must admit that I was laughing when I looked up those butt pictures and uploaded them. I made sure I chose some that would draw a little attention. But once the post was up and running, I started worrying that I had made a mistake.

I just thought maybe we were all due for a little kidding around. And so I did it. It's been a long cold winter, a rough one, and it's only about half over. We need to keep our minds on other things (like Carol's Saints).

Anonymous said...

Thanks for asking Carol, she had a lot of fun. As far as her realizing that she was the center of attention: That's the way they all think at that age. I've read that they're incapable of thinking beyond their own needs at this age, their world is all that exists. So I guess she always thinks she's the center of attention -- more likely, she thinks she's the center of the Universe.

.... hey Carol, the way I just described a one year old sounds a little like some of those inmates that you treat. :)

I see Don checked in, and is safe and warm in his hotel. Lucky guys will be in Florida tomorrow.

You still here Solar?

I'm going to try to scoot down to Naples this time.

That's nice the way Coreen used you and your sisters pic in the post Carol.

Coreen, nice post. It set the mood, and I'm sure it made Carol's win even more meaningful.

Truth Don, I would never do these types of things, if I didn't know it was so important for children to experience them. The fun I had was watching her have fun. We're creating important memories, and loving her so much, makes it easier to go through this stuff again.

I have fun 'everyday' with her.

Nor that one.

jan said...

Carol and Mary, Congrats on the Saints big win today. Hip Hip Hooray!

jan said...

Chloe, kudos on what sounds like a wonderful party for one year old Emma.

I read somewhere years ago- I think in a development text - I taught a course on human development at one time- that children realize they are not the center of the universe about 7 years old. What a "downer" that must be. It comes at the same time they have been in school a while. I don't know how scientific that is.

jan said...

"If the Saints beat the Cardinals; does that mean that they are Bishops??"

Solar, the above is very cute. I will have to share it with John. He will really appreciate it.

jan said...

Chloe, get some much needed rest. You deserve it.

jan said...

"Lunch tomorrow with friends, then the beaches of south Florida. Yay!"

Don, I am so jealous. You will have to tell me your favorite beaches. John and I are going to sample some this next year.

jan said...

I just made John a lemon pie. He is very easy to please. It is only jello lemon pudding mix and a ready made low fat chocolate graham pie crust. It is one of his favorites. I like it too.

Mary said...

Jan,
I don't get into football as much as Carol does but I have to admit I did watch a little of the game when I got off work--that is until I fell asleep.

Jeremy and Steph are wanting to find out what the babies sex is. They couldn't tell on the last U/S but she is having another one at 21 wks. and they should be able to tell then.

jan said...

Carol & Mary, I have to admit I did not watch the entire game. We watched a movie on TV and kept game on other TV and checked periodically to see how the Saints were doing. Watched a movie written and directed by Woody Allen - very typical Woody - old cynical smart guy meets pretty teen age girl who throws herself at him - but it was still funny. It turned out better than I expected. I rented it cause John likes Woody's movies - does not approve of his marrying his adopted daughter but "Whatever Works" is name of movie.

jan said...

Mary, when will she be 21 weeks?

"I would never do these types of things, if I didn't know it was so important for children to experience them. The fun I had was watching her have fun. We're creating important memories, and loving her so much, makes it easier to go through this stuff again."

Chloe, me too. A couple of years ago my son and DIL had a b'day party for my now 8 y/o g-daughter. They had it at Chuckie Cheese. I really don't like Chuckie Cheese. I know it was not a grandmotherly thing to do, but I created an excuse not to go. I think I was just in a funky mood that day too - It was middle of July and hot. There were a lot of people invited and I think I thought I would not be missed. Anyway, my DIL was ticked at me for some time. I live and learn every day.

Ivy Green said...

Looks like the Colts blew out the candles on Joe Flacco's cake.

Carol said...

Sorry Ivy for abandoning you but I was pooped after the Saint's game. I'm not that big a football fan unless I've got a horse in the race, then I go nuts. I think I do like football more than I will admit but I want to have a reason to care about the outcome. I will have another reason to care today with the Jets game.

I really got into the Alabama games too until they played poor LSU. I was cheering for Alabama in the Championship until Texas lost their QB. Since I didn't have any deep commitment to Alabama, I felt torn.

I don't like to see injuries become the cause of a loss, anymore than I would like to know that steriods would augment a player's ability to help his team win.

I was worried about that Arizona QB after he got hurt yesterday. His eyes told me he was in a lot of pain when he was laid out on the field. I thought it was real sweet of our guys not to completely clobber him in with that next sack. Our guys had compassion. Did you see that? Three of them just hugged him instead of knocking him to the ground. Auhh.

Carol said...

Yes Chloe, I'm sure that those little ones do think they're needs are a priority but I wonder if over and above that, Emma was able to realize that that was her day.

Unlike Jan, I don't still remember all the developmental levels. Oh, I had to learn it several times but what you don't use, you lose. There's been a lot of stuff that took a walk through my brain and left out the back door. No room to take a seat. But sometimes I am amazed at how much did stick around. It may be stored in some back closet on the 10th floor but it's still there. I do like to hoard.

Carol said...

Yesterday when I was saying that my work in corrections was a calling, I have even thought that maybe, my entire career, education was for the purpose of preparing me for this last job. The responsiblity I have been given, with little support, requires I call on everything I've ever done/learned before.

Teaching was one of the best preparations. My diagnositic skills, which I would say are pretty damn good, come from the years of teaching physical assessment and pathophysiology. If you got to stand up in front of a bunch of cocky college students and teach it, you better damn sure know it and understand it. They will test you and I don't like to fail.

In the "free world" there were many Docs I worked with who felt threatened by me, but in corrections, what I know doesn't threaten any of them. That's one of the reasons I like being there so much. Maybe not many people care about the population I serve, but God does and I do.

Carol said...

Coreen, I hope you will be putting up a Jets post today. It did wonders for my team. Since they do have your team listed as the underdog, it is even more important that you help them also.

Carol said...

Today is laundramat/Walmart day. I was hoping to do that yesterday but had to wait for the plumber. He did come and look at the situation yesterday and plans to come back when it is not pouring like it was yesterday. He works for a large plumbing contractor but is doing my job on the weekend.

I was worried he might tell me to just burn the house down but he says he can do it. It will take some tarps, some digging, and maybe some pumping out but it can be done.

Anonymous said...

"It will take some tarps, some digging, and maybe some pumping out but it can be done."

... and will cost a decent amount of money, I'd guess. I hope he gives you a good deal.

Carol, The times I've had to go to laundry mats, because of washing machine problems, or whatever, I have actually enjoyed it. It's warm there (like you said); it smells of that good, clean smell of laundry detergent, and the hum of the machines is kind of calming. (then there's those vending machines, with the junk food, yum... :).

The best part, is the feeling of accomplishment you have when you're done. As you said, it's nice to be able to wash and dry them 'all' at the same time.

Jeez, I'd better stop talking about it, or I may end up at a laundry mat today. Ha!

Anonymous said...

"In the "free world" there were many Docs I worked with who felt threatened by me, but in corrections, what I know doesn't threaten any of them."

Carol! I wonder how many women have hidden their intelligence, in order not to threaten the men they encounter in their lives? It struck me as to how bizarre it is that a Doc would feel threatened by someone else's knowledge.

It also says a lot about our culture. Women have been kept 'in their place' for centuries, and a lot of men are not ready for them to come out of hiding. Just as many men have never thought like that, so I sure don't include all of them in that statement. But there are enough of them, that we can't help but notice.

Anonymous said...

"I'm sure that those little ones do think they're needs are a priority but I wonder if over and above that, Emma was able to realize that that was her day."

Carol, Some of the strangeness of the day (differnt-ness, if I may) actually made her more timid. A one yr old is dealing with a lot of blossoming awareness, and starts questioning things that before were a constant in their life.

We'd be missing the point, if we didn't acknowledge that she thinks every day is 'her day'. It'll be important later on, when she realizes that she's not the center of the Universe, that she realizes and feels that she is still a very important and loved person. So she'll have the memories (some only through pictures), and this base of self-importance, along with a good self esteem. Birthday parties are just as much for the adults in a babies life, as they are for the baby.

A lot of things we do are tradition, and a way to indoctrinate children into society, making sure they become part of everything that's going on around them. There are other things we could have done for Emma's birthday that she would have enjoyed just as much (or more?).

There's no doubt that she does enjoy the company of other children, and I plan on making sure that she always has contact with them every chance we get.

Anonymous said...

Ivy! Glad you enjoyed the game last night! It was fun reading your comments. :)

Carol said...

You know Chloe, it's so wonderful that Emma gets to have such as close relationship to a person who has evolved to the level that you have. Someone not having to claw to make a living. Someone who can draw on years of experience and learning. Maybe grandparents should be the ones who raise the kids.

Most children just have their young, inexperienced mom's and dad's or just one parent who are/is struggling out there trying to make a living, trying to keep their heads above the water. Kids are just another stressor and too often is the straw that breaks the camel's back. I see the results of so much of that in my jail. Seems to be getting more frequent.

There are too many young women and men who go nuts and take it out on the wee ones. So, so sad but I can sometimes understand how that could happen.

Well off the the shopping and washing. Might see you there.

Oh Solar, I did my exercises this morning then fed all the critters, Maggie, birds, squirrels, fish and almost a cat that wanted one of the above. I ran it off but don't worry, it looked fat and happy.

Carol,

Study finds aerobics slows brain aging

Apart from its long known health benefits, regular aerobics exercise can ward off thinking and memory problems commonly seen during the aging process.

According to the study published in Archives of Neurology, engaging in moderate physical activity such as brisk walking, swimming and yoga in midlife lowers the risk of developing mild cognitive problems.

High-intensity aerobics routines can improve mental function in seniors already suffering from mild problems such as forgetting names and misplacing items.

According to lead researcher Laura Baker, six months of intense aerobic exercise "improved cognitive abilities of attention and concentration, organization, planning, and multi-tasking."

The study found the influence to be greater in women.

Chloe, you have a wonderful way with words. I feel the same way about the laundry mat. I would not be going if I did not have a problem with doing laundry at home. Since I have been washing my clothes at the LM I have not had as many problems with skin itchiness - so I definitely believe my machine is not working well.

Coreen, Go JETS.

Carol, you were so good at teaching students too. They really loved your classes when we taught together. You shared the passion you had for the content you taught. I am pondering what you said about the docs and that they are not threatened by you in the work you do now. Damn right - you are taking care of a group of people that they probably don't want much to do with.

John has taken clinical (hosp) training with some other ministers who have done prison work. These other ministers, like you, have found the work very satisfying.

My last few years of teaching I went back to teaching undergrads - after about 10 years of teaching in a grad nurse program- and I realized that this was really what I was meant to do. When nurses get their PhDs they think that teaching undergrads is beneath them. What messages we often tell ourselves about who we are??

jan said...

"Sunday morning is jumpin at the laundry. Kind of an international crowd."

I like to go to the laundry mat on Sundays too. Here, many of the American Indian folks wash at the LM. Many of the Navajos who live on their native lands do not have running water. I often see my students or former students at the LM. You can always tell the single men b/c they are doing their own laundry and you don't see them folding women's clothes. If a hetero couple come together, the women ususally do the work and the men sit around and read the paper - sometimes the men pitch in with the folding. I have decided the LM is a study in sociology.

"High-intensity aerobics routines can improve mental function in seniors already suffering from mild problems such as forgetting names and misplacing items."

Solar, I agree with you that exercise is critical for all of us. However, I see few seniors doing hi intensity aerobics. We (seniors) do well to go out for a nice walk or swim. I think doing the hi intensity stuff is fine when young or middle aged but I question it in old age.
