Ivy, How did you get here so fast!?

Ivy Green said...

Synchronicity.

Anonymous said...

I'd say we all work really hard at communication, here at the Swamp.

Solar said...

Ivy,

That's a good question..how do you know when there is going to be a new thread over at tm...i don't want to woo hoo..but I have been sniping..every since I was a whipper- sniper there in the beginning

Anonymous said...

Yes Ivy, I think you're right: Synchronicity.
You seem to be very in tune to your surroundings.

Carol said...

I'm certainly have empathy for you Ivy. When is your test? If you get on the blog afterwards, we can ask you all kinds of questions and you probably won't remember what you said until you read it later. They like to use that Versed. It can cause amnesia for a period afterward. Well, they used Versed. I'm not sure what they use now.

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
Craig's posts have a bit of a pattern. He doesn't always stick to it, but in general...either at midnight or 6 am (EST). I think it's automated, he has them in a pipeline and there seems to be a timer.

Anonymous said...

Ivy, I think the only bad part is when you're taking they yuk that you mentioned. On the actual day of the procedure, there's not really anything to worry about.

When you are done, you'll be 'very' hungry. So you'll enjoy that meal, probably more than you've enjoyed any meal in a while.

Nothing to worry about Ivy, once you get through tomorrow. I hope you'll be online with us, letting us know how you feel.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I didn't realize our friend was not good about attending his diabetes, but friends are noting his wife had been complaining about it.

Anonymous said...

Our posts here follow a pattern too. When it's getting close to 200 comments, a post follows soon after. Ha!

Solar said...

Thanks Ivy,,those I knew about..but sometimes when they arn't scheduled at those times...

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I'm hoping for the best. It's not my first time. It's not as bad as a sigmoidoscopy during which you are awake!!

Solar said...

Take that hat off that kid..it's hot in here....

Anonymous said...

Hot? Not it's not. Haven't you heard? We're having a cold front. So leave her hat alone!!

Anonymous said...

Next photo I put up, she'll be wearing a Santa hat Solar. I'm not going to try to get her to sit on Santa's lap this year. She'd be terrified. She's getting into the 'stranger danger' stage.

Ivy Green said...

I would not have mentioned my procedure if not for the synchronicity of the cartoon. It was just too funny. But I hope others will be motivated for this and any other check ups that they may have been putting off. Preventive care may have made the difference in prolonging or saving my sister's life. Sadly, we won't ever know.

Ivy Green said...

I would not have mentioned my procedure...except that you all might have noticed my absence...or my "posting funny."

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
You're not dissing MY hat, are you? It's from Mexico.

Solar said...

Anything she wears for Christmas..is going to be nice looking on her.! how about you..you going to wear the same hat she is?

Solar said...

Ivy,

No, U look cool in that sombrero ....u just need a cigar for the clint eastwood look. :-)

Anonymous said...

Let me answer that question with a question Solar.

Are you going to wear the same hat that the kid in your picture is wearing? Ha!

Well, I need to get.
If anyone wants to put up a post, please do. This was just to tide us over.
nite.

Carol said...

You'll probably lose some weight after you get your colon squeaky clean also Ivy. I ought to think about having my overdue test done just for that reason. I've been feeling a little full of it lately.

Solar said...

It's in the book of winkle...any pink picking on poor ol solar...ya have to read his avatar.!!

Carol said...

Chloe's pumpkin turning time?

Solar said...

"I've been feeling a little full of it lately."

don't you be throwing these high inside sofballs at me..next time..im going to swing....

Anonymous said...

Poor ol' Solar. Ha! That's a laugh.
He, who enjoys being in trouble. Poor indeed!!

Carol said...

She's just like Cinderella. It hits 9 and poof. Well, Cinderella could stay up until 12.

Anonymous said...

Maybe I'm not turning into a pumpkin Carol. Maybe I'm a vampire. That would mean I'm just getting going.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I was belated in reading the pre-op instructions. All the junk I ate on Thanksgiving and the leftovers, plus the Brussels sprouts were on the no-no list. I am into "confession" as any good ex-Catholic, so I will tell on myself. Maybe they will send me home.

Solar said...

And...What kid..thats me in that pic...

Ivy Green said...

Chloe,
Miss College and I saw "New Moon" on the weekend. I liked the werewolf better than the vampire, but she said that's only because I didn't see the first movie, "Twilight."

Solar said...

Chloe,,U too don't be throwing me no softballs...ok Countess Yorga.

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
We don't need no stinkin' see-gars. lol

Anonymous said...

Did you like the movie Ivy? I haven't seen it.

Solar, That's not you.

Carol said...

Well Solar, I'm sure there must be some colon clutter going on that is accounting for that extra 14 or so pounds I've gained. Not sure how to explain that illusion of the spare tire around my waist.

I'm really missing my morning bacon and country fried potato platter. I bet that girl that has my, to go, order waiting must think I've died.

Anonymous said...

I'm waiting for the camera you swallow before i get my first one. A prostrate check was bad enough. I'm so glad I'm not female.

Has anyone seen the Rotunda in the Temple Square? They have 6' or 7' tall oil paintings of a blond and blue eyed Jesus. I asked a poor little missionary about the historic untruth of this and she didn't know what to say.

Carol said...

I wonder why no Brussels Ivy? Ya think that maybe they just don't want any extra stench coming from that tube? They do have to fill ya up full of air so what goes in must come back out.

I did some of my NP clinicals with the gastro guys. I liked watching the colonoscopies. I kept ducking and dodging as they moved thru the camera thru the colon, like I was going to hit my head on something.

Solar said...

When U sent me that pic of you..i asked that you put on a few little pounds.....is all...going to be harder, and harder..so you might as well start now....drop that pie...now.!!

Ivy Green said...

Chloe,
I liked the movie, but then I was a big "Dark Shadows" fan...

Carol said...

I know how hard it is to lose weight. You have to starve yourself of 3500 calories to lose a pound. And then the body is so efficient that it wants to hold on to that fat for hard times, even if there aren't going to be any. Your metobolism drops when you drastically reduce caloric intake. That's why you have to exercise to increase it.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I made an ass-umption about the B. sprouts. It did say no turnip or collard greens, and B. sprouts are just a few leaves away. You know us ex-Catholics. We wallow in projected guilt and sin. lol

Ivy Green said...

How DID we get our avatars back?

Carol said...

I wonder why our avatars came back? What did you mean by the big C Solar? Does anyone have a link to the iron Jesus? No one answered so I guess not.

Ivy Green said...

Hubs survived his birthday.

Ivy Green said...

I saw Iron Jesus on the Google...he should be readily accessible.

Carol said...

I do hope that your wallowing pays off Ivy. Hate for you to have wasted it. I've always had guilt, as a close friend and companion. I should have stayed in those Catholic lessons. I would have qualified.

Carol said...

Happy Birthday Hubs!

Carol said...

I found it. If you keep looking, this kind of scary pic shows up. Hope that's not any kind of sign. See what you think.

I had a colonoscopy last year. I put it off for about 10 years. John kept telling me "its a walk in the park" Carol is right - the drinking before is the worst part. The test itself is not bad at all. I finally had to stay in the bathroom while drinking - could not make it from the kitchen to the bathroom. I did get Versid.

jan said...

If you all have not read the Twilight series, you are missing something. I read it b/c my granddaughter was reading them and I wanted to be sure they were ok. I could not quit reading. I stayed up until 2-3 in morning sometimes to finish one. I have not done that with a book since I was a teen. I thought they would be "hokey" but they were really interesting. The author has quite an imagination.

Ivy Green said...

Thanks from Hubs, Carol. It's better than another recent birthday of his we spent in the emergency room 'cuz he'd brought back a parasite from Guatemala. Worse than "golytely." At least that's only from one end.

jan said...

I plan to see New Moon this weekend.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
I have overheard other grown-ups talking about these books they could not put down, and I discovered it was the "Twilight" books they were referring to.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
I will be interested to hear what you as a "true fan" have to say about "New Moon."

Ivy Green said...

While reading the list of bestsellers, I said to Hubs, "Who the heck is Stephanie Meyer?" He said he had no clue. I said, "Well, whoever she is, she has five books on the NYT best seller list."

jan said...

Ivy, I really thought they would not be able to hold my interest. I don't have any problem stopping reading a book if it does not interest me. I like novels but I also like good writing. The author was on Oprah recently and the story for the first book came to her in a dream and she said she had to write it down. She didn't tell her husband what she was writing about until she finished the first book b/c she thought he would think she was nuts for writing about vampires. The only person she told what she was writing about was her sister.

Ivy Green said...

Well, I'm pooped. lol 'Nite.

Ivy Green said...

Oh, Jan. Still here. Not too pooped to post another. She was on either 60 Minutes or the CBS Sunday Morning show. Very interesting. Another writer with a similar success story is Diana Gabaldon who writes the "Outlander" series.

jan said...

Tell your hubs Happy Birthday from me too. That reminded me of another birthday I need to acknowledge before going to bed.

Nite all.

Ivy Green said...

Another vampire writer was Ann Rice but she gave it up and starting writing about Jesus.

jan said...

Ivy, I have not heard of the Outlander series. Have you read them? Are they good?

Ivy Green said...

Nite, Jan. See ya later...

jan said...

I read a couple of the Ann Rice books years ago when Interview with the Vampire came out but didn't care for the rest of her books.

Ivy Green said...

Outlander...! It's about a nurse who is a time traveler in 18th century Scotland.

jan said...

Ivy, nite. Would like to hear more about what you are reading later.

Ivy Green said...

I did like the first book of Ann Rice, and looked forward to the movie, but it was miscast with Tom Cruise in the lead. That part should have gone to Brad Pitt but he got second billing.

Ivy Green said...

The center of action in Outlander is Castle Fraser. We were close to getting there on our trip but time constraints made us choose Dunnottar Castle instead. Oh, for another week in Scotland. I could have made it to the porridge festival too. lol.

Ivy Green said...

Castle Fraser, Aberdeenshire

Ivy Green said...

Diana Gabaldon started by writing a "practice novel" to see if she could do it. The rest is best-seller history.

Outlander novels

My latest issue of Scottish Life Magazine arrived today with a feature story on the cover about Castle Fraser. I'm off to catch up on it now. More will be revealed.

Oh man, that storm is moving fast. Three states in only a few hours.

Carol said...

I heard a little of that Oprah show with the lady that wrote the vampire books that are so popular now. I was a little jealous. It really sounded like she was channeling that material. I think some writers are channeling their material.

Hey, somebody up there, I'm available on evenings and weekends. I type pretty well and I wouldn't mind being a multigazillionaire.

Carol said...

I'm still not sure when Ivy's test is scheduled. It doesn't seem like it could be today cuz she wouldn't have been on the blog much after drinking that golitely. Little Iphoney might work but Laptoppy would be a little more trouble after golitely. Of course there would always be the possibility of flushing little Iphoney. She wouldn't like that.

Carol said...

I see that no one came up with the answer to why our avatars came back. Maybe Google fixed the problem. They may have dropped in to see why we sometimes have 200+ comments on our blog posts. I bet that is rare. I've never seen any blogs, other than Craig's, that pull in 200+ comments. It must attract some attention from somewhere. They would be even more stumped when they read them.

Mary said...

Carol,
Ivy's test is on Thurs. so she'll be drinking this afternoon.

Carol said...

Thanks Mary. I see you are doing better with you reading with comprehension. I still miss a lot.

So Ivy will be busy tonight. Then Thursday we can expect some pretty interesting comments.

Carol said...

After hearing the speech last night, I'm still not convinced. I'm glad I'm just a turtle on a log out in the swamp!

jan said...

Hi Ivy, I must work today so won't be online again until tonight.

I will be thinking of you today while you are preparing for your c-scopy - About an hour after I started drinking the g-litley - I couldn't do much of anything else. I assume Hubs is taking you. Be sure and have him or someone with you when they are finished and are explaining findings. You might be too "out-of-it" to remember everything they tell you.

jan said...

Ivy, I am going to look for the Outlander Series. I am ready for a new book and the holidays are coming with more time to read - yeaay!

jan said...

Hi Carol, you are not giving yourself credit - you are a good writer. You could just write about your experiences - in the way that you write on here and I believe that you could sell some books.

Carol, I think some people are just natural writers and I think you are one of those. John is a natural writer.

It does not hurt Stephanie Meyers that she was an English major. It reminds me of the young author of the series that all the kids like - Harry Potter. The author is from England and was a single mother of 2 little kids and poor, and wrote her first book in the park on paper while watching her kids. She also is a multigazillionaire now. I don't think this author had any preparation for writing. She just had a very active imagination.

Stephanie Meyers was rejected several times before finding a publisher. I bet those publishing houses are kicking themselves in the booty.

jan said...

Hi Mary, how are ya? Are you still thinking about making a quilt for your grandbaby that is due? If so, I will be happy to copy some of the baby quilt instructions in the book I have and send to you. Do you have a sewing machine? You might want to wait until you know if its a boy or girl before starting. That does make a difference.

jan said...

Hi Chloe, How are you and little Emma this morn? Sounds like your hobbies are your animals? When my children were under school age I did not have any hobbies -too busy. I would love to hear more about Emma and what she is doing these days? I see a lot of little ones her age and do developmental screening. I am entertained by watching babies and young children.

jan said...

Chloe, I love the post you did here on empathy and caring. I also like the one you did on Maslow (I think that was you). I have used Maslow's theory and model when teaching nursing. His theory works so well for teaching nursing students about caring for individual patients and families.

jan said...

Hi Don, we havn't met but I was reading about your deciding to wait for the little camera to come out before getting a c-oscopy. I thought I would do that too but finally decided to go for the one they do now- I am glad I did as I had a couple of small polyps that needed to be cut out. I don't know your age, but you might reconsider that decision. It is really not a bad test. You don't have to use the go-ligtly. My bro in law just takes some pills to prepare for his test. It really is an important test to have done. You will not feel anything during the test - they put something in your IV so you don't feel or know anything. There isn't any pain before, during or after.

jan said...

Well, time to take Ms Dog for her morning walk. We have a little more time this morning for a longer one.

jan said...

I just had to get back on and tell ya-all about the moon. It is in the West now - close to the horizon and it is full. I hope some of you are looking at it now. It is amazing. For us here in NM it is just light out now and the sky under the moon is pale pink and the sky above is pale blue. My camera battery is dead and need to recharge - but I am sure I could not capture its beauty. Hope some of you are seeing it now.

Anonymous said...

Hi jan, thanks.

I just turned 50 and I'm in no special hurry. The technology is called wireless capsule endoscopy and is already here. You swallow a disposable camera and wear a video receiver for 8 hours. That's it. It captures images of the entire intestine, not just the large intestine.

The drug they give you during the colonoscopy is basically the date rape drug, it interrupts your ability to create memories of the horrible experience you're going through.
http://www.gihealth.com/html/test/given.html

No thanks.

jan said...

Hi Don,
I did not know that about the drug - are you talking about Versed (not sure of spelling)? I surely don't remember the c-osp experience so I guess the drug worked. Maybe the next time I need the procedure I will do the camera too. I hope the camera is not too big. By the way, what do the numbers in your id stand for?

jan said...

Lobie took me for a walk - it was 29 degrees at the beginning - now that sun is up - it has warmed up nicely.

Anonymous said...

Hi Jan,
I use Typepad to identify my id for posting. I misunderstood a question that Typepad asked about using my id, and now it uses an anonymously generated id. There's no way to undo it. I reported it to Typepad over a week ago, but they still haven't done anything to fix it. So as soon as that's fixed, I'll be don1one again.

No walk for me today. It's been gently raining all morning. I wouldn't let that stop me, but it's a cold rain.

I have puppies I pass that I give a pup-peroni treat to that will be very disappointed to though.

My mother had a colonoscopy before they started giving the drug. She won't say how it felt, she just curses the doctor for a half hour when I mention it.

I'm not sure where they are with the camera for general use yet. I'm at a very low risk, so I'm happy to wait.

jan said...

Don1one, sorry to hear it was such a bad experience for your mother -I am LOL at your description, not her. Must have been an awful experience. No wonder you plan to swallow the camera. I do like the idea of having the entire GI tract checked out.

Hi Ivy, are you still around? I thought I would not be online today but am doing some work at home.

Solar said...

OK, Ok, enough with the C_____opsoy talk..I give..I had it done once..and never again; unless it's that camera thingy...

I drank all of the liquids with no trouble..when i do something..what ever it is ..i figure its part of it all...and no sense complaining..I just do it and don't think about it...

Then my only goal was what was in the little brown bag that the nurse said would be mine after I had it done...

The doctor came in and told me that I would be put to sleep.....and now you tell me,,,now you tell me...it was a date rape drug......I was raped one other time...but that's another story...drugs were used in that one too..i think..

any way...the only thing that i told the doctor..he was a stiff acting sorta chap...from Germany or some-place like that...I told him that the only thing that I wanted...was that he would please not forget the flashlight.....in the bag, was an apple, a banana and some candy...and no cigarette....ok thats all ..I hope Ivy has an easy time of it....but....

jan said...

Solar, I am cracking up lol. 'please don't forget the flashlight' I did not get a little brown bag. I would want chocolate in my brown bag.

jan said...

Actually, I kind of liked the drugs they gave me during my c-ospy. It was nice to not feel any pain.

jan said...

Ivy, are you drinking yet?

So Chloe, Have you had the big C...y?

Anonymous said...

I think you were safe unless flowers showed up Solar. Sorry ladies, old male joke.

Ambien is in the same general family jan. Versed is a benzodiazepine and ambien non-benz, but the mechanics are similar.

That's why people on ambien can do things without remembering. I don't like it because it has cumulative effects on me, but it's a mood change as well as sleep.

Anyone looked at how eating almonds can help prevent cancer? It works similar to the laetrile of years ago. My mother (same 5'2" redheaded Irish spitfire) had an inoperable malignant tumor and she refused radiation and chemo. She went to Mexico and took the treatment, that was 32 years ago. I don't think it's for everyone, but it helped cure her. I think the other part is the cells ran up against her temper and turned tail and ran. :)

It's funny to me how people will do all kinds of uncomfortable medical treatments, yet ignore simple dietary and lifestyle preventions.

Ivy Green said...

Hey, Jan,
Glad you got some home-time. Are you able to work from home ever? I always got more done working from home, away from those charming folks who think your time is theirs and love to drop in without an appointment.

Yes, I started drinking the yuk. They said I could flavor it with Crystal Lite. I've had about fifteen ounces and, so far, I feel no effects.

I'm not bothered by the "horror stories" of c-scopes and such. I have seen the horror of terminal cancer.

Solar said...

I think that-that dr. liked me...he left his card.....never called...

Ivy Green said...

The first time I was medically tortured was age 9 when I was administered the upper and lower G.I. series. To bad there weren't any "memory loss" drugs for that.

Ivy Green said...

My mother categorically refuses all tests. I doubt she's ever had a mammogram, let alone a c-scope. She's made it to 79 and still counting, so maybe I know nothing about nothing. lol

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
I think you will enjoy the Outlander series. They all in paperback now except for the newest one. I read all of them straight through as one book - had to be 1500 pages. Then I had to wait for the next one which I bought right when it came out, but I have yet to read it. Now there's the newest release that just came out. So I have two to catch up on.

The books are so detailed with historical, sociological and archaeological information that the author published "The Outlandish Companion" which serves as an encyclopedia of all things related to the series. You have to wonder how did Diana Gabaldon know all this stuff in the first place?

Carol said...

Hi guys. Thanks Jan for your nice words. I'm happy just to be able to entertain you.

Ivy, your are starting early on that stuff. Are you suppose to? I don't have a clue because it was probably more than 20 years ago when I had mine and I don't know what the rules are. I do remember drinking my stuff the night before the test.

What do you get to eat tonight? Broth? Even if I didn't have to drink all that stuff and then spend the evening in the bathroom, I don't think I could go all evening without my feed.

I have been limiting my feed pretty well all week. I've had a small spicy V8 for breakfast the last two mornings and you'd be surprised how tasty that is when that's all you got. Not as tasty as that bacon/country fried potato platter though.

Carol said...

I got off work early today. Several nurses were out and I finished my work early. I went to WM to find something for Fiddler to get into to stay warm. I found something called a kitty cube. It looks warm and I stuffed some extra towels in it to make it warmer. I tried to stuff her in it to show her what to do. She wouldn't let me so I hope she figures it out when it gets really cold.

Fiddler does have access to my back porch at the house because there is a break in one of the screens and she climbs in. I feed her out there. I put her little kitty cube out there.

Of course, everybody likes you Solar.

I have a mystery, a strange mystery. When I came home, I laid some of my groceries out on this little table on my back deck so I could unlock the door. When I picked up my groceries, I saw this 4 cassette tapes taped together sitting on the table. They weren't there this morning when I left. I have no clue where they came from. It is a book on tape series, Dragonfly in Amber. I was unfamiliar with that book. I brought them in, wondering who left them. It's not like I'm on any beaten path to anywhere.

I came in and started reading the blog and ya'll are talking about Diana Gabaldon. That was the name of the author of these tapes. I see you mentioned her name last night but it kind of went in one eye and out the other because I never have time to read.

The tapes look new even though I know they don't sell many cassette tapes these days. Where did the tapes come from, who left them and was it someone who is reading our blog?????? Isn't that strange??? I'm kind of spooked now.

Solar said...

Don,

That was a little haha (joke) about the doctor...

It was at the VA, and when I told that to my primary dr...dr. King..she could not stop laughing...

Carol said...

Ivy, do you have a little TV tray? Set it up in the bathroom. It will provide you with some distraction while you do your other business.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I was reading through your comment and when I got to "Dragonfly in Amber," I gasped. You went on to figure it out yourself, Diana Gabaldon. It's not the first book in the series, but it's one of them. Could it be a coincidence that tape was left for you, or is there a "lurker angel" in our midst?

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I was reading along in your comment and got to the words, "Dragonfly in Amber," and I let out a gasp. That's not the first book in the Outlander series, but it's one of the early ones. The question is, why you, and why now? And how? This is stranger than the bone mystery.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
My comment got hung up in cyberspace and I though it was gone. The blog may be blipping tonight.

Anonymous said...

Solar,
I was trying to do a take-off of Bill Engvall's "Here's your sign" but it was a bit weak.

Carol,
Angels or pixies. :)

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
What did you mean by me starting early on that stuff? I'm worried I waited too late.

Ivy Green said...

Word of warning, there's a cyber-blip tonight that's bottle-necking the comments.

jan said...

This is truly synchronicity. Now that Carol has the tapes, I think I will go out and buy the books.

Ivy, sounds like you are doing great with the drinking. what time is your c-scope tomorrow? I was not allowed to have anything but water and golightly the night before and I had to stop that at 12 midnight.

I do remember I was not to have any aspirin or ibuprofen one week before the test - there may have been other drugs too. I think tylenol was ok.

jan said...

I just posted a comment - and its not there.

jan said...

Ivy, I just lost 2 comments. how strange. Have we gone over 200.

Carol said...

It's very strange Ivy. If I wouldn't have seen it with my own eyes, I'd think I was making this story up. I called Mary and told her about it. She was at work.

I don't even know of anyone who reads this blog around here except Mary. I don't know who would have those tapes or who would drop them off way out here and right after that author was mentioned here. I didn't even remember you mentioned that particular author until reading again this afternoon, after I found the tapes.

If I came across the tapes myself somewhere I wouldn't have even recognized the author's name.

I did find an old Walkman out here that has a tape player on it. I tried it and it does work even though the sound is stuck on loud.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
Maybe it has something to do with the dragonfly title and not the book/tape itself or the author? Still seems like a strange coincidence. There was no note or other clue?

jan said...

I have made several comments and none are showing up so I went back and signed out and then back in again. I will see if this makes it.

Carol said...

Ivy, that posting problem has been happening off and on for a while now. Chloe told me that if my comment doesn't show up after I've posted, just open the blog on another tab and check it. I've done that a few times and it does show up there.

I was thinking that maybe someone was reading our comments before they were allowed thru. A little paranoia. I can't think of any reasons any of our comments would be worth censoring. But strange things are happening.

Did your instructions for the colon cleansing say when you should start drinking that stuff? It only took one half the jug before my colon was clean enough to have a picnic in. I quit then.

Carol said...

No note or clue. The Dragonfly in the title did catch my attention.

Anonymous said...

If it's just a slow comment posting it's because you post to one computer with data (database) but you can read from one of many different databases. It can take time for your one posting to work its way out to the other readable sites.

Noon and around 5pm are the worst times, because that's when people have time to hop on and look. Though that's going to be spread across time zones a bit.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I have not had any results even though half the stuff is gone. That concerns me more than the other way.

I haven't eaten any solid food since Sunday night. Also, what about stopping the pain relievers 7 days before? I have continued my celebrex on schedule. First I screwed it up by eating Thanksgiving, now the stuff is not working, and I probably took pills I should have quit. Maybe I need to call in sick tomorrow morning?

Carol said...

I just solved part of the mystery but it still leaves some significant synchronicity.

My friend Randal, the river rat nurse out here, lives down the road about 12 camps down from me. I called him and asked him if he left the tapes and he said yes. I asked how he came upon those tapes. He said he was cleaning out his house and came across an old box that those tapes were in.

He owns some apartments and someone left those tapes behind along with some other stuff when they moved out. For some reason he kept them. He's a pack rat and keeps all kinds of stuff. He came across the tapes a few days ago and knowing I collected dragonflies, he thought I might be interested in them. He was off today and brought them over and left them. Still very errie!

I told him that someone on the blog was just talking about that author. He thought that was interesting also. He is a person who appreciates an interesting coincidence.

Ivy, did you read the directions on the jug? I think you are suppose to drink that stuff, one glass after another, not sip it. Check the instructions. It probably works as an osmotic laxative. I will look for some info.

That's a relief to know, Carol. At least we know it's not a mystery lurker.

Who is the narrator? Is it Diana Gabaldon? Sometimes the authors will narrate their own audio books. I would love to know what she sounds like. Here is her bio.

Ivy,
Make sure you tell the MD about continuing the Celebrex. I would think you should have gotten off that. That's an antiinflammatory and usually they don't want you taking those before any procedures.

Carol said...

Don't call in sick though. Just tell them what you have done.

Carol,
I've been taking 6-9 oz about every half-hour to three-quarters of an hour since 2 pm. What does osmotic mean?

Jan,
I will confess. I didn't think of celebrex as an anti-inflammatory. To me, it's a pain reliever. Even so, I didn't read my instructions until Monday because I was so focused on Thanksgiving, and then the sudden death of our friend. I should have been more focused on myself. Do you think they might send me home without the procedure?

Faster, drink faster Ivy. Says 8 ounces every 10 minutes. Proceed with your laptop into the bathroom because when she blows, it will be too late.

Osmotic laxative means that it draws fluids from bowel into the colon and will result in more water in the colon. That how some laxatives work.

I would think it's more the blood thinning properties of aspirin than anti-inflammatories in general. They wouldn't want you to bleed too long from an injury.

From what I can see celebrex doesn't weaken clotting. Carol?

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
okay, but it said you can slow down if you feel nauseated, and I feel nauseated reaching for the jug from the fridge.

Celebrex is a Cox 2 inhibitor.

"In addition, COX-2 inhibitors lack some of the platelet inhibiting properties of aspirin and other nonspecific NSAIDs and may, directly or indirectly, lead to increased risk of thrombosis, particularly in high risk patients where low dose aspirin therapy is warranted. On the other hand, this property makes them a better choice for perisurgical pain management, where inhibition of blood clotting would be problematic."

The way you are doing it may slow down Golytely's action.

Isn't this neat. How many other people do you think have their own poo poo support system? Not many I suspect.

There was an earlier product from Fleet that I used the last time that was much easier to take. I asked why I wasn't getting that, and learned it was called off the market.

Get that TV tray in the bathroom Ivy unless you want Hubs to deliver it. It's coming.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
Can you translate that Cox-2 bit for me? Okay or not okay?

Ivy Green said...

I told him to keep the path clear and the dog toys off the floor.

Unlike Motrin and Naproxen, Celebrex is a Cox 2 inhibitor.

"COX-2 selective inhibitor is a form of Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that directly targets COX-2, an enzyme responsible for inflammation and pain. Selectivity for COX-2 reduces the risk of peptic ulceration, and is the main feature of celecoxib, rofecoxib and other members of this drug class. COX-2 selectivity does not seem to affect other adverse effects of NSAIDs (most notably an increased risk of renal failure), and some results have aroused the suspicion that there might be an increase in the risk for heart attack, thrombosis and stroke by a relative increase in thromboxane. Rofecoxib (commonly known as Vioxx) was taken off the market in 2004 because of these concerns."

I appreciate the support, Carol.

I don't know how your doc feels about your using Celebrex before your procedure so I don't want to comment.

Ivy Green said...

And Jan. Don, your contribution is helpful as well. Thanks all.

Carol said...

Tell me when... cuz I got a New Post waiting in the wings.

That's a good idea about the dog toys. It would be really bad to slip on one of them at the wrong time. Your pups would probably be all hiding thinking they are going to be blamed for the mess.

Ivy Green said...

I will let them know, Carol, and they can decide whether or not to proceed. This is under the heading "live and learn."

Ivy Green said...

Any time, Carol. We can jump over to a new thread at a moment's notice. I may be jumping off soon anyway...

Carol said...

Do you feel any activity?

Carol said...

This gives a new meaning to "talking sh--."

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
Drinking faster is the key, but I'm not sure which end to hang over the toilet.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I'm not too sure about that post you have waiting in the wings.
