Christmas Sightings In Connecticut

Here's some Christmas around Connecticut.

Since 1963, General Electric has designed and decorated the National Christmas Tree in Washington. Each year GE also decorates a large live evergreen tree at the entrance to its headquarters in Fairfield, CT with the same design. This is the 'twin' to the National Christmas Tree. It is covered with a mesh of lights, this year they shine as specks of gold, and the ornaments are different shape stars in red, white and silver.

At the Mohegan Sun Casino in northern Connecticut, here are some of the dazzling decorations
that adorn the entrances to the casino.

Here's a peek at some Christmas things around Connecticut for now.

Coreen, You came through for us!
What beautiful Christmas pictures. It is so easy to see why you love living in Connecticut. Really gorgeous!

And thanks for decorating The Swamp for us Coreen. Now it's feeling so much more like the holiday season, thanks to you.

Chloe said...

Carol, I hope you plan on taking lots of pictures at your annual holiday party too. Lots and lots. You can probably keep our holiday spirit going through the rest of the year.

Chloe said...

" Chloe, are you talking about the swim spas that are pretty small and have a some kind of blower that gives you the effect of actually swimming in a big pool?"

Hi Jan. Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. It's a real space saver, and it takes up a lot less room. Plus, with it being small, we'll be able to enclose it fair inexpensively. It's be quite a while before we can do it though.

Coreen said...

Chloe,

Glad to share them, keep hoping you will add some of your own.

Chloe said...

"I can just imagine how much fun it is to have a cute little Emma during the Christmas season. Has she been enjoying the lights and decorations. Not to sound like a broken record but I do hope we get a Christmas picture of Emma."

Mary, Thank you so much for asking. Yes, I will be posting a picture of Emma soon.

Also, you're right, Emma has been enjoying all the Christmas decorations, when we're out and about. I haven't done much here at home yet. I need to get up a small tree and start wrapping gifts, so she'll get more of a feel of what's going on.

Coreen said...

Chloe,

Not sure what you consider a swim spa, my cousin has a room with an indoor pool where you
swim in place. It is heated & climate controlled in that room as well.

Chloe said...

Hi Coreen, You know I don't use a camera much.
But I'll make a point to before Christmas. We live in a very small town, but close to many large ones. I have several to choose from, but I rarely get down to Houston, where the big stuff takes place. Actually, I purposely stay away from there as much as possible. Too much traffic, especially this time of the year. I like the small town atmosphere where we live, although I never shop in it... there's just not much there. Plenty of places within a few minutes though, to do that.

Chloe said...

That sounds like it Coreen. A small pull, with jets (like a jacuzzi) for resistance swimming, so you swim in place. Not as nice as a large pool, but you can control the temperature and it doesn't get as dirty, because it's enclosed. Less money to build too.

Well, I'm just about ready to head out the door with Emma. See you later.

Coreen said...

Chloe, the small town decorations are great,
we always had lights lining Main Street, but
as the populations spread out, hard to define
Main Street. And lights on houses are great,
here it's a little cold as it gets dark to stand outside someone's house to snap away....

thornwil said...

Coreen,
Thanks so much for the Christmas pictures. I needed those. This yr. it's been alot harder to get into the Christmas spirit. There hasn't even been as many lighted houses around as there have been in the past.
I think reality just hit Carol this morning. She called me saying that it was just going to be her and our stepfather(and he's not alot of fun) for Christmas day. I hate that but I didn't have much choice. I have to work Christmas day and my son and DIL are coming this week-end because they have to go to his in-laws for Christmas this yr. We're celebrating Christmas on Sat. which is the same day as her party but it was the only day we had. I'm going to cook a big Christmas dinner that day.

Checking in again before I read the past commentes; anyone here? Oh I forgot I can look at the top and see if im the only one here..I don't like that tracking thingy....so I don't even look at it most of the time.

Solar said...

Mary,

Don, and Carol are correct.!!

Dont't move too many things, althtoug they are simple, and won, break the adjustments can drive one crazy.

The very first thing that you will need are rubber boots, and a bikini....pic please hahaha. (thats a joke ..laugh a little will U--)

If you take the float that you can see in the tank and turn it, it will show you rihgt away that it is giving you more water. I might be against the bowl wall, and just needs to be free of it...If You do move anything..do it one at a time..and look at it real closley, memorize it and put it back like you found it.

That should be all of what is wrong with it...but Don's picture of the parts are excellent..everyone should book it for futuree use.

Don, Not going anywhere...just going to be a little scarce for a this week. Don't let the pinks get to U..they had me going for a while..until I told them to get me my budwieser, and to get my tv remote...that always puts them in the right mood...

Coreen,

Another nice post of your area, thanks..and for worrying about me..I would write a little longer message to you but I know how you lawyers are about that..short and sweet is how you like them...I hve more to tell you but will leave that for a little later, unless.......

Chloe, thanks for the update on M. I think that she will be pretty balanced growing up with Christmas, and all of the animals, and the love for knowledge, just like you.

One thing thogh; when she is a little older; I would take her into the city just to see a different world that a lot of young peopl don't see....

Jan,

Thanks for the call shout out....I will be checking in to read about you adventures on the cruise ...

Ivy,

Thought about you when they announced the H. T. conrats.

Solar said...

conrats=congrats

Solar said...

Corren,
Just looked at those pics again...who cut the grass in this cold...looks like it was just done...the bear ice sculptures are cool.

Hope that Obama has a large set of ornaments just the ones that are in your pic, today, dealing with the large banks....he will need them..but all I expect is more, and more talk out of him, with out any force to make them do what they should be doing....Lending, and dealling with Mortgage Modifications....

Solar said...

Don, Chloe,

Thanks for the mail...sorry that it took so long to answer.....will check in tomorrow about 11 am....Don't if there is life out there in Space, int the Universe.....are they cousins????

Solar said...

Don,

Don't = Don...sorry about that...and if we are cousins to anyone out there.......are we all one....like I keep saying about that synergy thingy....we are all it...later

thornwil said...

Solar, Don't disappear for too long. We miss you too much.
I'm not sure I understood what you told me to do with my toilet situation but I sure laughed alot. When I tried going to the link about the parts all I got was a blank page.

Coreen said...

Mary,

Unfortunately, can not help with a solution to the not enough water flowing back into the bowl, but see if this link shows the various tank parts that may need to be adjusted. I tried Don's link, but nothing was there for me either.

Toilet tank parts

Chloe said...

Mary, I'm assuming your back tank is full of water before you flush. If so, here's instructions on the adjustment from eHow:

How to Adjust Toilet Valve
If a toilet constantly runs after being flushed or if there's not enough water getting into the bowl after flushing, there may be a problem with the fill valve. The fill valve in a toilet allows water to flow from the water shut off into the tank to refill after flushing. The fill valve has a float device which floats up as the tank fills and shuts the valve off once the water reaches a certain level. If the float is adjusted too low the tank will not fill enough and if it is adjusted too high the water will keep running and drain into the overflow tube.
1 Remove the tank's top carefully and determine the type of float that is present in the toilet. In an older toilet, a ball cock assembly may be found. This type of float is characterized by a round ball at the end of a steel or plastic rod whose other end is attached to the fill valve by a screw. In newer toilets the float is a plastic collar which rides up and down vertically on the flush valve.
2 Find the adjustment screw where the rod connects to the flush valve if the toilet has a traditional ball cock assembly. Turning the screw will allow for the adjustment of the float. If no screw can be found or it is adjusted as far as it will go then the rod must be bent down if a lower water level is desired or bent up if a higher water level is needed. Remove the rod if possible before bending to avoid damaging the fill valve. The water should fill to about 3/4 of an inch below the top of the overflow tube.
3. Determine how to lower or raise the float level on a newer toilet with a modern plastic refill valve. Some units may have a hand nut on the fill valve which when turned clockwise will raise the water level and when turned counter clockwise will lower the water level. Other modern refill valves will have a sliding pinch clamp on the adjustment rod. By pinching the clamp the float collar can then be adjusted up or down on the adjustment rod.
4 Flush the toilet before replacing the tank's top to determine if the float has been adjusted to the proper height. If the proper water height has not been achieved then readjust and flush again until the proper level is achieved. It may take several flushes to get it just right, but once it is replace the top. How to Adjust Toilet Valve

Chloe said...

Mary, If that valve needs to be replaced, I think it's pretty cheap at Lowes or Home Depot.

Chloe said...

Mary, This one talks about a couple of more things to check, and has a picture to explain how to check for a clogged siphon jet hole (ha!... also explains what that is :).
Forceful Toilet Flush - What's All the Flap About?

Carol said...

Coreen, loved your pics of Christmas. When are we going to see all the work you did at your place? Are you waiting until Christmas Day?

Hi Chloe, I told Mary to screw it too. I couldn't get the pic Don linked to come up either. Just a blank page. The one Coreen linked is the type of toilet guts I'm most familiar with but there are all kinds of different guts these days, no two alike at my places. From what she described, I think Mary's is like the one you linked.

Yep, Christmas is going to be pretty darn dull around here this year. Mary has to work so that just leaves me and my SF. He is so morose these days that I'm surprised he's still breathing. Nothing excites him anymore. He's just waiting to move on. I'll have him over for a regular dinner. I think I'll be turkeyed out by that time.

After dinner, I plan to go to the movies. I will try to get my SF to join me but he'll probably just want to go home and go to bed.

I see that movie, It's Complicated, will be coming out on Christmas day. I saw on Rotten Tomatoes that it already has 8 reviews and 5 out of 8 gave it a rotten tomato. How can they already have reviews if it's not out yet. Were they reviewing the trailer?

Solar we do miss you when you stay away and I hope your absence means you have good things taking up your time.

Chloe said...

Carol, I LOVE to go to the movies on Christmas day! It's a tradition around here. We go to the first showing, but it's always crowded. It's surprising how many people go to a movie on Christmas.

Do you know they always open a new movie on Christmas day too. Once they announce what it is, we'll know what to look forward to. I think your plans sound good Carol.

(They usually open one on New Years day too.)
.... got to get my work done now.

Chloe said...

.... oh, sorry. I didn't see where you found out what was already coming out that day. You're way ahead of me. I'll look it up when I get back.

Chloe said...

"How can they already have reviews if it's not out yet."

They usually have an early limited release in N.Y. and L.A. Or at least the critics get to view it early. I often don't agree with the reviews though.

Carol said...

We just had a gully washer come through here. Got about 4-6 inches in just a few hours, just what we needed. The lightening came very close to hitting my truck several times on my way home.

thornwil said...

Thank you so much, Chloe,
I actually understood those directions. I think I was turning the screw the wrong way.
Did you have a nice day out with Emma today? I can't wait until I'm a grandma.

jan said...

Coreen, great pictures of the trees. Are those "balls" oversized? It looks like it.

jan said...

Chloe & Coreen, John and I have been talking about one of those pools. We have a friend in Ark who has one and loves it. I would love to have one indoors - at least I would prefer an enclosure.

jan said...

Carol, I miss those gullywashers. We occasionally have one in July or August. They are rare here. I love thunder storms.

Coreen said...

carol, i will post some of my own decorations
before christmas day, promise. probably more than one post needed.

the movie i would really like to see that opens christmas is sherlock holmes with robert downey.

jan said...

Mary, I know you will love being a gramma. My only problem is I love to give advice but try to keep my mouth shut unless I am asked my opinion.

jan said...

Coreen, I have seen that trailer 2 or 3 times. It looks like a fun movie.

jan said...

Solar, you have a lot of knowledge. When one of our toilets is running too long or the handle won't cause a flush, I usually know how to handle that - but that is the extent of my knowledge about a toilet.

Coreen said...

Jan, absolutely 'oversized', the ornaments on the GE tree & the grouping at the casino. I even have a pic of me sitting at the edge of them & I look well tiny...

jan said...

Carol, is your stepfather depressed?

jan said...

Chloe, you sound like you live in the perfect spot - small town but close to shopping. I don't blame you for not going in to Houston. The traffic there is terrible. That is the way Dallas was too.

jan said...

I need to grade some papers. Will check in later.

Carol said...

Yes Jan, he is depressed. I think it's because he can't find a 21 y/o or younger girl who wants him. He's 81 now. I think he was in a hurry for mom to leave thinking he could snag a hot young chick. That didn't work out too well for him. I think that fact finally sunk in.

And you wouldn't want this rainy mess here. Our entire area is a big swamp and that tree fell over in my yard because the ground was so soggy.

I just hope, with all the rain we're getting that I can have my party out here Saturday. I'll be sweating the river rising again. One year it was up over the road, for a little ways, the night of the party. If I can't have my party, I'm canceling Christmas this year.

Carol said...

Chloe, do you live close to those little shops in Spring? Mary and I were going to go camping one year over there. It was when I had my camper. But nooooo, she couldn't get her act together until it was too late to leave. I wasn't going to drag that camper in the dark. Mary can beat everyone with her procratination, even me and I'm pretty bad.

Carol said...

Jan, when is the semester finished?

Carol said...

There's an email going around about this rock. Anyone else see it? It's pretty cool.

Freedom Rock

Chloe said...

We live about a half hour or 45 minutes from there Carol. I go over the The Woodlands Mall, that's only about 10 or 15 minutes from there, but I seldom go to Spring. I like the more modern way to shop, under a roof with air conditioning. :) Old Town Spring

Chloe said...

"small town but close to shopping. "

Yes Jan, I do need to be near all the conveniences, including shopping and theatres (and we have some really great theatres here too). But don't get me wrong, we don't miss out on all the traffic, because we're near some important roads that go to the freeways. Our little town can get a lot of through traffic, especially during the renaissance Fair in October and November. And the roads heading out during Christmas rush can get very crowded too. But nothing as scary as Houston.

"I can't wait until I'm a grandma."

Mary, I am so happy for you. There's no way to describe how great it is. I'm even hoping you'll post the babies first ultrasound for us when you get it. Make sure they know ahead of time that you want them to email it to you when they get it.

I'm going to watch Dexter tonight, I think it's a finale, but I haven't watched it in a 'long' time. See you all tomorrow.

Carol said...

I am still trying to solve the mystery of the kurplush out in my river. It's a loud kurplush! Last night there were three of them. One a little out from my wharf followed by a little farther down and then a little farther down from there.

This is not a beav unless it is that 15,000 extinct giant beav pictured here:

Cool pic of giant beav

which I am still considering. It is something with considerable weight hitting that water. I was telling Mary about it tonight and she said our friend Randal was out one night in his boat and was startled by a similar noise. He thought that it sounded like someone was throwing a body out of a boat. I thought it would sound similar to that but of that were the case there would be too many bodies floating around.

I heard it again tonight. I'm dying to find out what it is. Let me take that back and just say I'd love to know what it is.

Chloe said...

Carol, When you heard that splash last time, didn't it turn out that your neighbors saw an alligator around the same time? I remember you posting a picture of one that your neighbor took a while back. I read that Louisiana has the largest alligator population, second to Florida - over a million (probably would make a good lead post).

.... on second thought, I'd rather not think about this: "Although alligators have a heavy body and a slow metabolism, they are capable of short bursts of speed, especially in very short lunges. Alligators' main prey is smaller animals that they can kill and eat with a single bite. Alligators may kill larger prey by grabbing it and dragging it into the water to drown." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alligators

Chloe,
I asked Carol about the possibility of it being an alligator but she said the splash was so loud the alligator would have been dropping from the sky.

Everyone, get your biggest violins out. My son called late last night and said he isn't coming this week because of something with his work. I'm so bummed out esp. since I took all week off from work. He also said his wife is spotting a little. I hope everything is OK with her.

Solar said...

Mary,

Glad that you solved your problem of low water in the toilet...The whole apparatus in the tank is kind of simple if you take the time to study it..and there is a kit that is very cheap....

Solar said...

Chloe,

I saw that you send me an e-mail about some person to add on fb..to tell you the truth, I don't like fb, I can see how it would be great for someone like Patsi..she found a lot of her old freinds ...I don't lose friends.!!

Carol, That Giant Beaver situation is not going to go away....what is a mystery for, if not to solve huh? What you need to do is get some bait , and witness it first hand...go out to where the sound is..and put out one of your tasty dishes..just pull your hand back fast.....

Solar said...

Haahahaha,

Im laughing here.! You all say that you missed me around, and then when i show up..you all take off...you all planned it..right?

You trying to teach me a lesson, and for me not to tease you all anymore...or tell any more jokes...thats too bad cos. i have a pee in you pantyhose for sue one...not you Don, in your draws..if you wear em?

Solar said...

sue = sure

jan said...

Mary, I am so sorry to hear your son and D-I-L are not coming. That is so disappointing. I have been there too. Since you took the week off why don't you plan something really fun and enjoyable for yourself.

I too hope all is well with your children's pregnancy.

jan said...

Carol, what a mystery you have there. What could be causing those noises? You could use this for a jumping off place for a good murder mystery.

jan said...

Solar, that happens to me all the time. I get online and everyone is gone.

Solar, By the way, most women I know don't wear pantyhose any longer. I have not worn them for about 12 years. I go bare-legged in the warmer weather- usually until oct/nov and wear long skirts with boots in cold weather. I don't know what the other women on this blog wear but most of women here are about the same. Some of administrative women wear hose or pantyhose as they wear the kind of shoes that require them - in cold weather at least. What about the rest of you gals?

thornwil said...

Jan,
I wear pantyhose if I'm wearing a dress. Of course, the last dress I wore might have been 12 yrs. ago.
My DIL saw the doctor this morning and had another US done. Jeremy called and told me every thing was fine. He's in CA working and she's in Chicago which I know was killing him. Not being there when they both were so upset.

Solar said...

Hello Maria, Jan,

Hope that your plumbing problems are finished with.

Ok, ok, I give...I know that you pinks don't wear any womens underthings any more.!

I should have put all my $ into froooot of the looms...you all wear boxer shorts now.... and jokey shorts.

Solar said...

Mary,

Sorry that your son won't be visiting you for Christmas. His lose cos he could have had a few day of your warmer weather...

thornwil said...

"His lose cos he could have had a few day of your warmer weather..."
That's what I'm talking about. I had my air conditioner on yest. It's been raining and muggy, muggy, muggy here. I think that's part of the reason it doesn't feel like Christmas. You'd think I would be used to that by now.
Was listening to YouTube, Christmas Carols a little bit ago and heard this one by Il Divo(great group and very easy on the eyes). This song even has more special meaning for me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRjnRWiv46s&feature=related

Sorry I don't know how to link this. I hope I got the song right.

Carol said...

Step outside little sister. The temp is currently dropping. Truck thermometer said 49 and there are gusts up to 23 mph. Don't you remember the weatherman motto, if you don't like the weather around here, just wait 5 minutes. It ain't no Solar cold, but it's cold enough for me.

Jan, I ain't looking for a murder mystery out here. Got enough of those at the joint. Just curious about what it is making that sound. I did go to Youtube and the only thing, found in the water, that splashed that loud was a whale. Hey, I'm not saying we have any whales here in the Swamp but it is a ocra sized noise I'm hearing.

And Chloe, like Mary said, if it was a gator, it would have to be dropped out an airplane. I even did consider something falling from the sky the other night when I heard three of those sounds. I moved under the roof just in case something was. It was the night of that meteor shower. It was so foggy, I couldn't see my hand in front of my face.

And another thing, don't gator hibernate in the winter?

Oh, and when I came home for lunch, a streak of lightening and clap of thunder hit just as I got in the house. Little Maggie headed for cover. When I went to leave I looked all over for her and couldn't find her in any of her usual hiding places.

I searched the entire place and finally found her in the towel rack. It's a little metal shelf for towels. She dug her way behind the towels on the bottom shelf. I guess she thinks that maybe the thunder knows all her old hiding places and she needed a new one. She's a crazy girl, she is.

Coreen said...

The mystery splashing....3 splashes moving away
from you Carol, I would probably not venture
anywhere near to the sounds at night, still inclined toward the aligator, but, maybe just maybe it is a mini-nessie, somehow lost its way from loch ness...kinda like that better than a gator.

Sounds like Maggie is pretty smart to find
a nice hideout, hope she does not go out at
night without you very close by.

Coreen said...

Mary,

Sorry for your disappointing news about your
son & dil not being able to visit. Hope they
can reschedule soon.

Will you be going to Carols for her Saturday party.

Chloe said...

Oh Mary, I am so sorry to hear you're not going to get that visit you were so looking forward to. Like Coreen, I hope you're going to Carol's party.

Chloe said...

I can't believe it. His first day back, and Solar gets all the pinks discussing their under garments.

Solar, Are you going to stick around a while now. Regardless, we're glad to have you back.

How did that weatherizing job go. Did you finish it?

Chloe said...

"...if it was a gator, it would have to be dropped out an airplane"

I don't know Carol, that article said they can be unusually noisy when they've caught something to eat (at least when it's something large). Actually, thinking about that is just a little to scary for me.

Listen to Coreen, and keep a close watch on Maggie. Maybe you're right and they're hibernating. But if not, you know there 'really' hungry. Animals eat so much more when the weather gets cold like this. (Ha.. I should know. I've been eating like a pig).

Chloe said...

".I know that you pinks don't wear any womens underthings any more.!"

... see what I mean. It went from not wearing pantyhose to not wearing any underthings.

Coreen said...

Chloe,

Sure way to get him back, we need to start talking about him...I think he has radar, must
be that space continum thing....

Solar's very cold weather is about to descend
on my part of the world. Today it was 50, but
little sun, I actually washed my car when I
came home, but it was a little chilly by the
time I finished... the rest of the winter it will have to be the carwash.

Once Solar blows that Chicago wind this way, not expected to get out of the 30's for the next week, but hopefully no snow...as I have
said, I would rather be dreaming of a white
christmas, then having one.

There the best huh?

Solar said...

Coreen said...

Chloe,

What did I tell you....Evening Solar...

Carol said...

Chloe, I'm certainly one of those animals who eats more when it's cold. I work up a sweat just running for more food.

I found this info on How Stuff Works: "When it gets cold in the winter, alligators slow down. Below 70 degrees F or so they stop feeding, and when it gets much colder, alligators dig out a den in the bank of a pond or river and go dormant until it warms up again."

Maggie is always on the end of a short leash when outside Coreen. At night I always walk between her and the water just in case something would crawl out of it.

I have friends that complain that Maggie never has any freedom but it is too dangerous for her to run around out here off of a leash.

There's been a lot on TV today about the recall of all shades and blinds because of the danger to little children. Some are complaining that it is rediculous and I kind of agree.

I've known about that danger to little children, cats and dogs, ever since I've hung blinds. They have warnings on the cords and the cords no longer have loops in the end, they are two single unconnected cords. They also have a piece included to use to keep the blind cords up high. And that is even on the cheap WM blinds I buy.

I can't think of too many things that aren't a danger to little children. I'd be a nervous wreck if I had one to watch after. Brian Williams suggested maybe they should recall toddlers because of it.

Solar, do you have a little block warmer in your boxers to keep the boys warm? And do you prefer boxer's or briefs?? What about you Don?

Solar said...

Coreen,

Hello, Chloe told you that Im half Warlock, remember? I did hear you all talking...

Solar said...

Coreen,

Your going to get some rain, followed by a few days of cold, ones. I walked to the library today ( about 3/4 mile) for my exercise and dressed right for it...ran back...was a little warmer that way...no snow....ok thats the weather forecast..

Carol,

How can you ask me those questions....makes my a shy and stuff...do I talk like that with you pinks....just cos I make some innocent comment once in a while..I get the sixth degree from Sally....Im innocent over here I tell yas.!!!

Chloe said...

"I can't think of too many things that aren't a danger to little children."

That's so true Carol. The best thing is to just keep them close by (like you do Maggie). We've done up her room as sort of a safe room for her. It's padded with those floor puzzle tiles, the one that are sorta rubbery and fit together. We didn't pad the walls, but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea. And boy can she tear that room apart, if you give her enough time. The toys and everything else are a mess. But that room is the only place I can leave her to herself for a while, and not worry about anything drastic happening.

Chloe said...

Ha, the only thing drastic in that room, is that I'm constantly cleaning it.

Chloe said...

I hope we haven't scared Don off Solar, while you were gone. You may have to email him and let him know you're back.

Coreen said...

Carol, I worry about you too walking close to
the water's edge with some thing lurking about...

Oh, and is the party day/evening/night or all
of those....

Chloe said...

LOL Coreen, I just noticed you have a holiday wreath. We sure are getting into the spirit, aren't we?

Solar said...

Chloe said...

".I know that you pinks don't wear any womens underthings any more.!"

..." see what I mean. It went from not wearing pantyhose to not wearing any underthings."

I also said that you gals wear fruit of the looms, and jokey shorts now...

Chloe said...

Is that your door Coreen? That sure is a beautiful wreath.

Chloe said...

There you go Solar, always backpedaling. Ha!

That's good to know Carol. I think snakes do that too.

I'm one of those people who always thinks there's a logical explanation for things, whether I can see it or not.

Have any of your neighbors go any idea what that splash is? You've got to admit, it's never boring there on that river.

BTW, I was surprised to learn that La. and Florida have so many alligators. There actually pretty cool (animals, can I call them that) if you stay out of their way.

" Carol, I worry about you too walking close to
the water's edge with some thing lurking about..".

Carol, Thats the first thing that went through my mind...U need to think about your safety sometimes.....

Chloe said...

"some thing lurking about"

IMO, the most dangerous things lurking are usually humans. And some large dogs. Most dogs are sweethearts, but you do hear some horror stories about the few that aren't. They're often a cats worst enemy, and also a small dogs too.

Chloe,

Nice avatar, and look at mine....for your answer to backpedaling.

Coreen, nice wreath...chocolate?

Carol said...

I'm a chicken guys. I don't do anything dangerous anymore. Nada.

Coreen said...

Was wondering how quick you'd notice it Chloe...& since Christmas is only 10 days away, better get some spirit, its now or never... and yes, that's my front door...

I used to make the bows but I found a great place in MA that makes beautiful bows, all colors, etc & quite reasonable, since I need enough ribbon to do the door & 8 driveway poles & finding that much ribbon was always a task, now I order the bows & they are really great.

Carol said...

Where do you see the wreath? I can't find it.

thornwil said...

Carol,
The avatar.

Carol said...

Now I see it. I was just about to mention the cute penquin but I missed the wreath. I've refreshed and reloaded looking for the wreath.

Coreen said...

Penquin, good thing you said that, I had to
enlarge it, I thought it was a snowman...

Carol said...

Nice wreath Coreen.

Coreen said...

Thanks...I like plaid....

Chloe said...

"look at mine....for your answer to backpedaling."

I'm going to let that pass Solar. Your lucky day. :)

You need a Holiday avatar. Whadaya say...

Chloe said...

.. well, as Alicia used to always say:

See all you beautiful people tomorrow.

Solar said...

Ok,

You all are getting me in the mood.....

Solar said...

Wait, put up the next #'s.

Carol said...

How do you change an avatar?

Chloe said...

.. oh, and Jan and Ivy, as well as Don. That includes all you also, even though you're not here yet.

And Mary, you haven't been very talkative... I hope you haven't let your son and dil not visiting you get you down too much.

Chloe said...

19,18,17.

Now you.

Solar said...

U are only one # off U know.

Coreen said...

Chloe, don't leave just yet, need to give
instructions for changing an avatar....

Solar said...

18,17,16

Chloe said...

Carol, Double click on your avatar, and it will take you to your profile. Click on edit, then you will go to the page that has your pic. Remove your pic using the option they give you to do that, then it will give you the option to upload a new one from your computer.

Chloe said...

ooooh, 15,14,13
..better?

Coreen said...

Carol, I highlighted my name in contributors,
then it said edit profile under my original
picture of the daisies...scroll down the page
after pressing edit, where my daisy pic was
it said remove pic, I did then it said
to add, and to browse, so I went to my pictures
& loaded the wreath. That is how I add
any pics to the site from other places, I get
them to my pictures & then when it says browse
I add them to the blog.

But I could not change the daisies in the list
of followes, maybe Chloe knows how to do that.

Carol said...

I found a Christmas pic from several years back when Mag was younger and tried to put it as my avatar. I looked a little blasted in that pic.

Solar said...

Go into dashboard. on picture click edit. click browse, and upload from my pictures or wherever you want to. once it is uploaded, and showing..at the bottom of page click save..

Carol said...

I did it Solar. I think I had too much Christmas cheer in that pic.

Solar said...

never mind..

Chloe, You now owe me three calls to one that I owe you...is that right?

Coreen said...

Carol, that is a really great pic of you & Maggie....

Carol said...

My eyes are crossed in that pic. I'm not sure what I got into that night. It was about 4 years ago.

Solar said...

Carol,

That's a beautiful picture of your....made me want to give you a little lick (kiss) just like the Magster...:-)

Carol said...

I take awful pics. My hair is too white.

Solar said...

Coreen, Where is the pic of you holding one of your cats? a recent one.....

Carol said...

I think Maggie wanted whatever I might have been drinking.

Chloe said...

Coreen, I was having trouble remembering how I changed that one on followers.

Go to this site: Google Accounts and sign in.

Then go to manage account and edit personal information. It gives you the option to change that pic too.

Coreen said...

Stop diverting attention Solar, we need you to
get with it too

Chloe said...

Actually, you go to create a profile, not edit. And you double click on the avatar they have there, and it gives you the option of adding another.

Chloe said...

Love that picture Carol!

Carol said...

What about you Solar? Do we have to send someone up there to get a pic? We do have people, ya know.

Carol said...

Yum, I just found a big praline that I forgot I had. The xray company we use at the jail put it on the box with this big cajun stuffed pork roast he gave me the other day. I'm going to give away the pork roast to someone with a big family to feed but I'm gonna eat that praline. Oink.

Solar said...

Have to go now...see you all tomorrow..

Carol said...

Where's Don tonight? Resting?

Chloe said...

Go into dashboard. on picture click edit."

Yes, your way was easier Solar. I missed your post.

This one, I'm not sure what you mean by this: "You now owe me three calls to one that I owe you...is that right?:" You owe me three, don't you?

I think I'm getting to my non-comprehensive stage. I'd better leave quick!

Carol said...

Night, time for me to hit the bed also. I have to be at work at 6A for a meeting. Stay warm everyone.

Coreen said...

Catch you all tomorrow...

Carol said...

Darn Jan, you're getting up to 50 tomorrow. Break out the shorts.

Chloe said...

"Yum, I just found a big praline that I forgot I had"

'Tis the season to enjoy eating, I've decided... and worry about the consequences later.

Night again.

Solar said...

No U don't....U have had the # wrong three times....and owe me the Moose call ...two of them....but I have something elsi in mind..and won't tell you until later on...

Chloe said...

"I have to be at work at 6A for a meeting"

Dang, that's inhumane!!

Chloe said...

Says who Solar!!?

Chloe said...

Ok, Ok... I'll wait for further instruction. Later.

Solar said...

Me, didn't we bet a moose call on the one that didn't get the numbers right?? I forgot most of it...and wanted to trade if I was right..

Chloe said...

I'll do what's right Solar. I always do eventually, after a little kicking and screaming that is.

Carol said...

I guess Ivy is socialiting tonight. She's a little party girl. I saw that you didn't get all the rain we got Ivy. It slipped right under and past you. I don't think you got it either Chloe. Just the Swamp got dumped on. I guess nature thought we wouldn't notice. Well we did and enough is enough.

12 Days of Cajun Christmas (don't know who wrote it but it works)

Day 1: Dear Boudreaux, Tanks for de bird in de Pear tree. I fix it las' night with dirty rice. I doan tink de pear tree.will grow in de swamp, so I swap it for a Satsuma.

Day 2: Dear Boudreaux, You letter say you sent two turtle doves, but all I got was two scrawny pigeons. Anyway, I mixed dem with andouille an made some gumbo out of dem.

Day 3: Dear Boudreaux, Why doan you sent some crawfish? I'm tired of eating dem darn birds. I gave two of dose prissy French chickens to Marie Trahan over at Grans Bayou an fed the tird one to my dog Phideaux. Marie needed some sparing partners for her fighting rooster.

Day 4: Dear Boudreaux, Mon Dieux! I tol you no more friggin birds. Deez four, what you call dem "calling birds" were so noisy you could hear dem all de way to Napoleonville. I used dere necks for my crab traps, an fed de rest of dem to de gators.

Day 5: Dear Boudreaux, You finally sen' somethin useful. I like dem golden rings, me. I hocked dem at da pawn shop in Thibodeaux and got enuf money to fix da shaft on my shrimp boat an buy a round for da boys at de Raisin' Cane Lounge. Merci Beaucoup!

Day 6: Dear Boudreaux, Couchon! Back to da birds, you coonass turkey! Poor egg suckin' Phideaux is scared to death at dem six gaeases. He tried to eat dems eggs and dey peck de heck out ah his snout. Dey good at eating cockroaches, though. I may stuff one of dem wit erster dressing on Christmas day.

Day 7: Dear Boudreaux, I'm gonna wring your fool neck next time I see you. Thibeau, da mailman, is ready to kill ya. The merde from all dem birds is stinkin' up his mailboat. He afraid someone will slip on dat stuff and sue him good. I let those seven swans loose to swim on de bayou and some duck hunters from Mississippi blasted dem out of de water. Talk to you tomorrow.

Day 8: Dear Boudreaux, poor ole Thibeau, he had to make tree trips on his mailboat to deliver dem 8 maids a milkin and their cows. One of dem cows got spooked by da alligators and almost tipped over da boat. I doan like dem shiftless maids, me no. I tolt dem to get to work guttin fish and sweepinq the shack but dey say it wasn't in dair contract. Dey probably think dey too good ta skin nutrias I caught las night.

Carol said...

Day 9: Dear Boudreaux, What you trying to do huh? Thibeau had to borrow the Lutcher ferry to carry dem jumpin twits you call Lords-a-Leaping across the bayou. As soon as dey gots here dey wanted a tea break with crumpets. I doan know what dat means but I says, Well La Di Da. You get Chicory coffee or nuttin. Mon Dieu, Emile. What I'm gonna feed all dese bozos? Dey too snooty for fried nutria, and de cows done eat my turnip greens.

Day 10: Dear Boudreaux, You got to be outs you mind! If de mailman don't kill you, I will fo sure. Today he deliver 10 half nikid floozies from Bourbon Street. Dey said dey be Ladies Dancin but dey doan act like ladies in front of dose Limey twits. Dey almos left after one of dem got bit by a water moccasin over by da out-house. I had to butcher 2 cows to feed toute le monde an had to get toilet paper. The Sears catalog wasn't good enuf fer dose hoity toity Lords' royal behin.

Day 11: Dear Boudreaux, where y'at? Cheerio an pip pip. Your 11 pipers piping arrives today from the House of Blues, second lining as dey got off de boat. We fixed snuffed goose and beef jambalaya, finished da whiskey and we having a fais-do-do. Da new mailman he drink a bottle of Jack Daniel an he having a good time yeah dancing with de floozies. Thibeau he jump off de Sunshine Bridge yesterday, screaming your name. If you get a mysterious, ticking package in de mail, doan open it.

Day 12: Dear Boudreaux, I sorry to tell ya but I not your true love anymore, no. After da fais-do-do, I spent de night with Jacque, de head piper. We decide to open a restaurant and gentleman's club on de bayou. The floozies, pardon me, Ladies dancing can make $20 for a table dance, and de Lords can be waiters an valet park de boats. Since de maids doan have no more cows ta milk, I trained dem ta set my crab traps, watch my trotlines, an run my shrimping business. We will probably gross a million clams nex year.

Carol said...

Ewww, it's early but not as early as I had planned to get up. I like having a little time to break gently into morning before I have to start the mad rush. I just finished knocking that alarm clock off every 5 minutes for the past 45 because it is just too damn early.

I was bad at setting my alarm clock an hour before I had to get up when I was young. Jan probably remembers that because it really pissed her off when she tried to room with me that short time in grad school. It's one of the reasons she got her own room.

Carol said...

Now if you can read that Cajun 12 Days of Christmas, you will sound like you live at the Swamp.

I don't still do that hitting the alarm clock every five minutes anymore unless I have to get up earlier than my body clock is set.

My wake up time is over and I'm not awake yet. Maaaaggie, come drag me to the shower.

Chloe said...
