Solar's clown---out there in space having fun.......
Couldn't resist....really liked this photo of a painting, "Several Circles" by Vasily Kandinsky, together with this aticle in the NYTimes. Circles are everywhere.
Coreen I like that picture..makes me want to smile...I have one with clowns on it..same colors, and back ground..not silly clowns..but different types, smiling..thanks
I haven't read that article yet Coreen, but will tomorrow, It is probably going to get me thinking about things, and will have a hard time sleeping..but I do like things like this very, very much, and ponder them...it is like string theory..Don will probably have a few things to say about it..as well as Chloe, and the others.....
But round things, circles are what little babies like..mayby cos Inside Mama..was going around in circles...sing along now...I hate it when I get silly...Bethy once told me that...
Don I know..but I like the circle talk, first....there is no beginning or end..never was..it just exists, or doesn't ..like a switch...time has no meaning, at start or finish..that is..
I don't like clowns that much either..just the evolution of the faces of the ones that I have...I saw them at a night club once. called clowns alley..they made one think of the human transformation, that we all make, from time to time....they had it in their faces...not funny at all...
I agree with you Coreen. It's supposed to be heavy stuff that doesn't reflect light. I think it's just a mathematical placeholder until we understand what's going on.
The problem, Solar, is that you have to be talking just the edge line around the outside for that to be true, and that's not what I see. I see tubes, and tunnels, and donuts, and passages and unions and intersections and finger holes and lenses and moons and...
I think like you do..there are many things on mathematical hold...I just like thinking that it is one, outer edge and inner.
Like we don't come into this world..we come out from this world....leaves from a tree...every individual, like the inside and out side of the circle is an expression of the whole..the total of nature, and a total of the whole universe..
This fact is rarely , if ever experienced by most individuals, and one of my goals...I don't think that we are isolated egos...trapped...inside bags of skin....I have read things like this..and agree with them...but there is much that I don't know..and do like your thoughts..which I do agree with.....and don't know which is the real thing..one thing that I do know..is that like Jan, I also like odd numbers, and my favorite # is 1....or 13
I keep thinking every time i hear the word mathematics..I read that..."Mathematics are very exotic places to visit..for those who can....later Don...Hobo coffee Huh?
No did not spoil my fun at all..it is all fun when these things are discussed, don't you think?
Incredibly rich to me also..could not be anything more richer...and please keep telling me where we differ...in the long run..what I seem to remember is that we have a different way of getting to the same place..mostly...
Im still going to hang on to "String Theory"..and everything is connected simultaneously to me..instantaneously is mmmmmmm like there is no space between things..and that would not make sense...unless that is not what should be taken out of that..thanks
We do seem to think a lot alike Solar. Scary, huh?
It means we're all interconnected in ways we don't understand and Alice just jumped through the Looking Glass.
"The time has come," the Walrus said, "To talk of many things: Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax-- Of cabbages--and kings-- And why the sea is boiling hot-- And whether pigs have wings."
Very cool: Together with what Ivy said the other day. about transition for the butterfly, sorta say's it all for me..Im just like Chloe, and give these type of things special meaning..and will copy this one down..but don't U be sweet talking the pinks here...here??
Here are the lyrics from one of my favorite old Joni Mitchell songs, "The Circle Game"
Yesterday a child came out to wonder Caught a dragonfly inside a jar Fearful when the sky was full of thunder And tearful at the falling of a star
Then the child moved ten times round the seasons Skated over ten clear frozen streams Words like when you're older must appease him And promises of someday make his dreams
And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down We're captive on the carousel of time We can't return we can only look Behind from where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game
Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now Cartwheels turn to car wheels through the town And they tell him take your time it won't be long now Till you drag your feet to slow the circles down
And the seasons, they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down We're captive on the carousel of time We can't return we can only look Behind from where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game
So the years spin by, and now the boy is twenty Though his dreams have lost some grandeur coming true There'll be new dreams maybe better dreams and plenty Before the last revolving year is through
And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down We're captive on the carousel of time We can't return we can only look Behind from where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game
Chloe, do you have "Goodnight Moon" to read to Emma. I saw the book today and just wondered if you have it. It was my grandchildren's favorite book. I loved it too.
Coreen, A really great picture and post. The green circle in the left upper area looks like an eyeball. The pic you posted would make a lovely quilted wall hanging.
Solar, My grandmother made me a beautiful little fabric clown out of some scraps of material. She embroidered the face. I love it. When one of my granddaughters would spend the night I had to take it out of the room she was sleeping in - she said the face scared her.
Carol, I love that song - The Circle of Life too - enjoyed hearing and watching the video. Thanks for putting up the link. I don't usually care for animated films - but I love the Lion King. I remember when Michael Jackson held his baby over the balcony - I wondered then if he was trying imitate the that scene in the Lion King.
I was looking back at Solar's post on the Tiger page where he said he thought golf was suppose to be a different kind of sport. I assume you were thinking that golf is a more sophisticated sport that involves a little more brain and less brawn. A sport that is not usually associated with sex scandals.
Hey, politics requires a lot more brain and no brawn at all and it's full of sex scandals. But we don't usually associate golf with bad boys. Tiger will carry the legacy of bringing a big time sex scandal to the professional sport of golf. Not necessarily something he would want to be remembered for. I can't remember any others, can you?
Maybe Tiger can get some new endorsements if he loses others. Tojans and Viagra are a two that come to mind.
Even though these guys may be feeding their egos to do this kind of stuff, they need to start thinking that they will never again be remembered, with the high esteem, for the other great things they accomplished. Bill Clinton was a great president but his scandal will forever tarish his image.
Tiger is just another body in the pile of great achievers who was overtaken by his weakness. Really, quite sad!
I guess that I should have just said it this way. Tiger is in a sport that is mostly ruled by the White's; that range from the tv golf announcers, the Club house and golf course owners, the designers, are all, or almost all white..
he will not be known any more as the black hero..he will be known as just another black kid with that can't keep his pecker in his pants...although they do the same ( and I agree with Coreen, b/c they can ).and the same with alcohol, and drugs..a minority has to stay away from these problems..at least publicly; not so for some one like some of the bad boys of golf like J. Daley..and fuzzy Zoller.
There are already lots of jokes that are talking about just another N...and given enough time his true nature will come thru..and the size of his penis, is larger than the size of his brain..just like all blks..like I said....the worst thing that he did was to set the blks back in the game of golf....as for him...he is a shmuck..and I don't feel sorry for him at all, of for any one that doesn't use the opportunity that only the so few get..he was a superstar. like M.J. Elvis, and I don't feel the same as most people do....the good that they could have done..for the world...was wasted....that is selfish...they might have done some..but not what they could have....A hero like Paul Newman, and his wife... come to mind..
Solar, guess your storm finally made it here overnite...about 4" snow fell, now pouring rain & windy. Dodged a bullet since if it didn't turn to rain, probably a lot more snow... Slushy mess.
Luckily my driveway was plowed when I got up, so only have to push the slush away later or what is there will freeze tonite. Need Mr. Sun to dry it out, but not today....
Golf was always a good ole rich boys club, & yes historically, lily white, not only blacks, but other ethnics have been discouraged, & what about women, there are still counrty clubs that I can not be the paying member of, right here...
As far as Tiger's future, I suspect that down the road, this will pass & when & if, he does go out to play golf, as long as he keeps winning, well everyone loves a winner....
I equate the behavior patterns of celebrity with $$$$ more than anything else, the richer, more powerful, the easier to indulge one's desires. People are just there to fawn over them & they take advantage of it.
Solar, but please don't pick on Elvis, he was a young, uneducated, talented country boy, who again was insulated & indulged by those who benefited from his talents which led to his sad and unecessary end & now he has made them even richer after his death...such irony...
Love Elvis...My son Tom recorded any and all songs ever made by him....I never liked him as an actor..but his gospel music is great..Just feel that he had the opportunity to get him self out of that poor ole country boy mentality...
Golf and Women..yes It seems that I have left that out...thanks..
I just read that article that you linked about the circles..liked it..and thanks for thinking of me again, when you did it.
Jan, looks like we have a lot in common: The clown, the number 13 is lucky for us as is odd numbers for Chloe, and the type,,forgot now I J N or something like that.
Went so see an Elvis Concert in Chicago, when he was big-heavy, and sat in the third row...too close..I swear he was coming on to my date, most guys were afraid of this when he was around I bet..
Pretty cold here today, and will continue to be for a few months..now is when I just try to wrap my mind around the Idea, that it is going to snow, rain; and sleet for a few months...can't wait for the Super Bowl..change of weather not far behind..
This is certainly a hit for Tiger, but I think if he can go out there and still play good golf a lot of it will go away. Golf needs him too bad. Even the other players want him out in the tournaments because he draws the big money which means big money pots.
I can't say I'm surprised though. He's always been so controlled, so focused, so perfect, that something had to explode. I feel sorry for his wife and kids, but it could have been a lot worse. People pay a heave emotional price when they're that driven.
A once had an Air Force class in personal interaction conducted by a psychiatrist. His belief was that all ambition is neurosis. No healthy person would give up so much just for fame and money. What I wonder is what is it in us that so obsesses over it. The fall from grace? His show of human failing?
Just started snowing again..this one will stick, 2 driveway's to do later if it amounts to anything..and it cold and windy..hey I went to Church last Sunday.!!!
Coreen, A most excellent post and picture. From the article you linked: “the most modest form, but asserts itself unconditionally. It is “simultaneously stable and unstable,” “loud and soft,” “a single tension that carries countless tensions within it.”
As the article said, Coreen: 'A round of applause!'.
Solar, What you said (on the last thread, I believe) about the beginning and the end is so true. After reading that, I've decided to think of the seasons in the same way. If I line them up in a circle (in my mind), then I can stop complaining about the cold season, by looking at is as a necessary part of the 'whole' circle. In that way, I can stop looking at winter as the end, and spring as the beginning. If they're all part of the same circle - a circle in which there 'is' no beginning and no end, then I'm going to try to 'use' that as a way of reprogramming how I feel about seasons, and even weather. I mean, no that I think of it, it will change the way I see life in general.
Maybe that circle is what makes this so true Solar: '... this too shall pass' - probably my favorite and most necessary saying.
"What I wonder is what is it in us that so obsesses over it."
Don, I've thought about that myself, many times. All I can say is, in my case, I've noticed I do like gossip. I figure there must be a gossip gene in me (in a lot of women) that I just can't seem to override.
There's that, or the fact that a lot of us use the internet to procrastinate, to put off what we (maybe) should be doing. Thinking of it that way, maybe obsessing over others accomplishments and/or shortcomings may be a way of distracting attention away from our own shortcomings.
That's just two thoughts, and I could probably come up with a few more on the subject, if I tried. I think it 'is' a good question you make there Don.
"I can't say I'm surprised though. He's always been so controlled, so focused, so perfect, that something had to explode. I feel sorry for his wife and kids, but it could have been a lot worse. People pay a heave emotional price when they're that driven."
"I don't like clowns that much either..just the evolution of the faces of the ones that I have...I saw them at a night club once. called clowns alley..they made one think of the human transformation, that we all make, from time to time...."
I really like the way you put that Solar: ... the evolution of the faces and tying it in with human transformation. Beautifully said.
I'd like to hear you talk more about it. Do you happen to have that clown picture somewhere where you can post it for us?
" there was some report that she had purchased a home in Sweden"
Coreen, I read the same thing. I even ran across a picture of it yesterday, and it's hard to believe it cost $2 mil (which I guess isn't much for Tiger). : Tiger's wife buys new home in Sweden
""... do you have "Goodnight Moon" to read to Emma. I saw the book today and just wondered if you have it. It was my grandchildren's favorite book. I loved it too.."
Jan, Thank you for recommending that book. It sounds like one Emma and I will both enjoy, so I just ordered it (I even got free shipping on it). Thanks again.
We're going to miss you while you're on your Christmas vacation - I know I'll miss your posts so much, because I find them so uplifting and kind. But I know you're going to have a great time. Where are you going? Sorry if you've already said - I may have missed the post.
I hope you'll try to borrow your husbands laptop a few times, and let us know what you're up to. If you're worrying about finding Carol's site on his computer, you can email her blog to yourself before you leave. Then just check your email while your gone, and you'll be able to click on the link and be here. You send it to yourself by simply copying the address of the site onto your email, and it will automatically be turned into a link (turn blue) by the email program, without you having to do anything special. Just hit enter after you paste it and before you send the email to yourself.
Ditto on Dean Martin..some people did not understand him...i think that I did..he was a good guy with some bad friends.and that lumped him with them...this happened to me to..loyalty is one of the things that you have to have in the circle of life...not blind loyalty....
Chloe, yes if you think about that circle for the seasons; it is a great way of coping with it..I do it for all things...
The are some contractors..that are good. but have a hard time about starting their projects..they find it hard to do that first step...you seem to be able to see things that might/could make things better for you, and you try them. That is the best way to be..taste something..and if you don't like it; or it doesn't' work for you..try something else...I betting that you will stick to this one...
When you said that I was letting Pogo beat me to the Punch..
My lunch call at 11: 31 was all stealth..and camouflaged ..his answer on the next post, was worth it...oh and I shot Max down, at the same time...he was flying high over Venezuela...with his drone plane of destruction...
Solar, Do you live close to Lake Michigan? My son's apartment used to be right across the street from the lake, and a couple of blocks from Michigan Ave. I loved it because I could walk everywhere.
Coreen, Do you get the email from your office at your house? I wanted to ask you about something (not law related) that you mentioned awhile back. It has to do with a Christmas present.
U too, and I thought you had connections...I live about 15 miles from lake Michigan...I use to date someone that lived in the towers..and loved watching the sun come up over the lake in the morning.....that was very spiritual..not religious..but could see god opening his eyes....
Oh I don't use de-oderant..i still I use one of those floor cleaner solutions...last a whole week...maybe not.....
Sorry that last post was for the Coreen gal...it's cold and chnaged my mine to go for a walk....where it that dang hobo coffee that I thought we were having this am.??
a hving typing prebloms tday; but so what.! there is nobody around to see them any way...going to go buy that deodorant now...I see that you pinks don't like the natural smell ....they say that's how you pinks pick out your mate..it is their smell..and not the smelly poop cologne's...hate em...
cept that one time, I was on a long run, in a mountain, attracted a wild female bore...ran my ass off, and just made it...I did were cologne for a little while...I noticed that there were different women that was smelling the air..not my type tho....they were wrestlers..ha!
I know that you are all just sitting back watching me talk like a fool, and laughing at me...PINKS....
Solar, I'll have you know, I am somebody. And so is Coreen. You must be having a readin' problem today also. I am the one that was asking about Chicago.
And guys, I am home decorating my inside tree, so I am just checking in when I go upstairs for something....not ignoring you...
p.s. don't know what anyone else is attracted to, but I am a sucker for blue eyes.....my favs Don Johnson (Sonny Crockett-Miami Vice) & Robert Wagner (who could resist him) & Tom Selleck (Magnum & Vegas).....
" Solar, I'll have you know, I am somebody. And so is Coreen. You must be having a readin' problem today also. I am the one that was asking about Chicago."
Coldest place I've been in my life was downtown Detroit in winter. That wind came off the lake and hit the sidewalks. I'd get headaches just walking the two blocks from my car to the police station.
Sun came out here for a while and I'm sure we got over 70. Windy and cloudy now, probably mid 60s. I was sweating pretty good in a t-shirt on my walk.
I was up at 6 am EST and put on some hobo coffee and christmas hazelnut for the ladies. Of course, the longer it sits the better.
I always really liked Dean Martin, especially his variety show. They say on the infomercial he never rehearsed, his reactions were all natural. It was great.
Never liked Jerry Lewis though, I guess I've never been into silly slapstick.
The only way I know to add to a post is for you to email the pics to the poster who can then edit the post & add them...So if you want to email to me, I will add to the post. Pretty sure You have my email address.
Solar and Coreen, Yes, Coreen is right. The author of the post must be the one to add the picture, so Solar, you'd need to send it to Coreen.
If you'd like to do them on a separate post Solar, I'd be glad to help you, but I think you've already done that before, haven't you? I would love to see that clown picture you were talking about.
Chloe, I found one similar, and have sent it too Coreen. there was a second one, but photobucket did not let me load it..but the one that did is a nice one..hope that it turns out..for this thread..fits.
awe shucks, blushing over here.! I can't do one thing at a time..I have become accustomed to do a juggling act, probably comes from building homes..there are always a few balls up in the air..and i have to admit that is the fun of it..
Thanks, I have done pics on a post before..don't know if I did more than one, and not added to one..but it would seen that in the edit part, it would allow it...
Evening folkes. I put some of your cities in my Accuweather favorite locations so I could see how miserable you might be tonight. It helps me not to whine too much when I think it is cold here.
Everything looked fairly appropriate except it said Chicago was 83 degrees. I figured it had some kind of glitch or global warming has hit big time. I refreshed and still 83 degrees. I finally clicked on the city name and it was Chicago, Belize.
My new heater will finally get a little test tonight with our low around 34. It was 73 here yesterday.
Solar, if you get too cold up your way head to the other Chicago. I didn't even know they had one down there.
Ivy, have fun tonight. I love banjo music.
I enjoyed your post Coreen. Can't wait for your decoration pics. Lately I feel like I'm running around in circles and getting nuttin done.
I enjoyed your Page Six Chloe. I bookmarked it. I found an article on one of the characters in Modern Family. I think they have their Christmas episode tonight. I promise that if you watch it you will laugh. It's on Network Solar. ABC.
If you miss watching the show on TV, you can watch them online. When I need a laugh I watch some of the episodes again. I love the characters. Speaking of clowns, there was one where one of the gay guys came as a clown to his nephew in law's birthday party. That was a good one also. Called Fisbo.
Interesting article you linked on death Don. I wish it was a little longer and had more detail. I feel he's got something there. Keeps making my orbs more significant. They represent inter-universe energy movement.
Heard this morning that Gatoraid dumped Tiger. Time for him to pick up Enzyte.
Are you getting excited about your upcoming cruise Jan? Bring back some pics for a post. Great for a mid winter break for the rest of us.
I know Tiger doesn't need Enzyte cuz what they say is true. I know, I'm a NP and have seen. Not going to tell you what I'm talking about but you can probably guess.
Solar, That is a very nice clown photo. Is the evolution of faces you were talking about a different one?
Carol, I watched a little part of episode 9 to see what it was all about, and you're right, it looks very clever and funny. You didn't tell me Chevy Chase was in it. Or was that just a one time thing. Modern Family Episode 9
Carol, I've been hearing so many raunchy jokes about Tiger. I even heard someone on the radio say that they've never seen a guy fall from grace so quickly. I do feel more sorry for his wife and kids than anyone else.
At this point, the guys definitely got more than one problem.
I'm going to turn on abc now and see if Modern Family is coming on... at least I think it's at 8 central.
Hey, when was Chevy Chase in it? I think you got the wrong show Chloe. I think I saw all of them and don't remember him in any of them. He is in some other new series though.
Carol, I just ran my mouse over that video, and it is from NBC Community. It looks really funny too, and I do like Chevy Chase a lot. I agree, Modern Family is very funny. Now I'll have to check out Community too. I sure do hate commercials though.
Chloe, it might have been easy to forgive Tiger of 2 or 3 or 4 or maybe even 5 little cheats but 10, really? When he screwed up, so to speak, he wanted to be on top of that pile of fallen heros. I guess he's used to being the lead man in his sport. No coming in second.
It's best if you start with the first episode of Modern Family. You get to know the characters better. They really grow on you. I think you guys with kids would appreciate the shows the most.
It's always that way Carol. It can feel a little bit like starting in the middle of a movie otherwise. But I thought it was funny. I'll watch again next week. I am a little bombed about Community though. I don't think our NBC here runs it. I'll look for full episodes online. At some point, I want to start watching a little tv again.
Netflicks has a service where you can download movies, instead of having them mailed now. I like the independent movies a lot, and most of them never make it here to Texas. New York and California get them all, and those used to be my favorite. That's why I'm looking into Net flicks, to see if they'll be releasing those particular movies early on. Especially since it's a lot harder to take in the movies, until Emma is older. But we'll never have all those movies I want to see at the theaters in Texas.
And Ivy, I'm really getting into that Dragonfly in Amber. It's taken me several nights to get thru the first tape, both sides. I kept falling asleep. Then it takes a while to find where exactly I was on the tape when I lost consciousness.
I didn't realize the story was going to involve time travel. I'm looking forward to going to bed and listening again tonight.
Kind of funny you mentioned getting excited right after you mentioned Enzyte Carol. I've heard Gatorade had already dropped him, but that may be convenient. Sorry, don't understand NP at all.
I've never done a cruise. A cruise is sounding better and better to me, especially if it's in the Caribbean.
What jumped out at me in that article is that the observer's choice affected the particles before he made the choice. More on my theme of physical space is affected by what we think it is.
Hope everyone is having a fun night. I have some Baileys, I just may spike the coffee in the morning. That should help those in really cold areas.
Chloe, thank you for sending the info on how to get into Carol's blog while at sea. We did not take a computer last summer on the cruise. I guess they have wireless internet on the ship. I do miss talking with you guys and seeing what is going on in your lives.
just saw Susan Sarandon on Jay Leno (taped from few nights ago) and she is amazing. She is in the movie coming out soon - The Lovely Bones. I am definitely going to see it. She said she does not know how to turn on a computer. She only recently started texting b/c her kids would not answer her calls. A woman after my heart.
I was too tired tonight to work on the "camping" quilt for my grandson's expected baby. I have made a cabin and 2 trees for it. Want to finish it before we leave on the cruise. It is not going to look like a baby quilt but it is what they want.
Tis the season for trysts. I see that Senator Max Baucus from Montana is also "deep" in it. When he was running for his senate seat in 1978 he stayed at our house in Billings MT. Grassroots politics is big in Montana. Someone had arranged for him to stay in family homes while he was campaigning. During dinner that night, he entertained my young sons with tales of his trips abroad when he was just out of college. I was disappointed in him about his recent proposal for health care.
Jan, I took Mom on a cruise the first wk. in Dec.,2000.(waited until hurricane season was over). She had always wanted to go on one and she had been diagnosed with CA. I wanted her to go before she got sick. We had a blast. They really treat you like royalty on those ships. I would like to go on an Alaskian cruise next. May have to wait for that lottery win. They do have something like an internet cafe.
You'll have to post a pic. of your cabin quilt when you finish it.
Mary, how wonderful that you have that memory of you and your mom on the cruise. Where did you go?
I absolutely recommend the Alaska cruise. The only regret I have is not taking the helicopter ride up on the glacier. We did a boat ride and saw whales up close -the best part of the trip. It is really not that expensive (compared with other kinds of vacations) and they have lots of discounts now.
Jan, We went to Cozumel, Cancun, and Roatan (one of the bay islands of Honduras). Took the Norwegian cruise line. They have "free style" cruising. You can eat in any of the main dining rooms at whatever time you want and other than about 2 nights, you didn't have to dress up alot for dinner.
Solar, I didn't see any pyramids on that trip but I went on a pilgrimage to Mexico City with a group from this area in 2004. We stayed in MC but took side trips every day. We saw some pyramids on that trip. I can't remember the name but, are there some called the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon or something like that?? That was a wonderfully spiritual trip.
Don, I got to see the Mayan pyramids in the Yucatan. I meet my older sister and her daughter when her daughter graduated from high school. I have mentioned that trip either here or on TM, maybe both.
It was right before that Harmonic Convergence. That might be why it was so spiritual. You can look that up. I participated and helped to save the planet. Felt that it was necessary.
Anyone think there is anything to that 2012 stuff? If that happens, I probably won't get my cruise in, well at least not one on the sea. Of course the other may be far more interesting. Won't need all that food they provide on a cruise.
Ivy, I didn't get much of my book listening in last night. It took too long to find where I left off from the night before. I have an old Walkman I'm using to listen to those Cassette tapes. It only has fast forward so I have to keep flipping the tape to try to find my place, but I'm stuck with that contraption since I doubt I could find a nicer one now.
My heater tested out pretty well last night. I'm sooooo glad I got it. It's only 37 out right now but it will continue to drop for a while. And 37 is plenty cold for me especially when my old heating sources could only get it a little warmer inside than out.
I did turn the heat way down because with it running all the time, it was drying me out too much.
And Ivy, I don't think that guy's pic looks like Craig but he might have in person.
Those throat singers, pretty interesting. I like those Peruvian Pan Flute guys, especially because when I hear them, I'm usually in Seattle at Pike's Market. I just love Pike's Market.
And Jan, Enzyte is one of those male enhancement supplements they advertise on TV.
Mary, why do you call it a pilgrimage? What did you do while you were there?
Sounds like a wonderful experience in Mexico Carol. I'd love to get a chance to go. The Mayans had amazing knowledge of astronomical cycles, especially seeing they probably didn't have telescopes.
I don't believe in the end of the world, but there are some odd things going on. Climate change and record storm patterns, the South American magnetic anomaly, sunspots practically stopping, the new earthquakes up through the gulf of California, and volcanoes threatening violence. It could be an interesting time.
I bet you could find a good tape player on ebay Carol, I've bought and sold tape players when I've needed them for projects. In fact, I think I have an old walkman around somewhere I rarely used. I'll try to find it.
Don, I not only remember Dan Fogelberg, I remember loving this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Go6I2_PpBU LONGER THAN - Dan Fogelberg ... man that was a long time ago, but somehow it doesn't seem so.
Mary, your trip to Cancun, Cozumel and seeing the pyramids sounds wonderful- I would like to hear more about your pilgrimage. I was in Mex City years ago but remember little about it. I would love to go back and see the pyramids.
We did the Norweigian Cruise Line to Alaska too and are NCL this trip also. We like them very much. We felt quite well taken care of.
Carol, I would like to hear more about your trip to the Yucatan. We missed an opportunity to go there a couple of years ago. John's brother and S-I-L lived close there and wanted us to visit. We just did not do it. I think b/c we did not have our passports.
Ivy, I listened to the "throat singers" Very interesting. I have never heard of them. I could do that on some mornings her with the very dry climate. I sound "hoarse" all winter here.
Don, thank you for posting the link to the song by Dan Fogelberg. I remember that song. I don't know which I enjoyed the most - the song or the pictures. I am going to keep that one. A great song and pics to play anytime.
Mary, I will find out how I can interact on the computer while on the trip. I just never get on the computer on trips. Before interacting on this blog I seldom used internet except for work. I do e-mail some of friends and relatives - but not that much.
Coreen, I'd forgotten about that song, and how unbelievably beautiful it is.
I love animals so much, it's hard to describe. They have a special place in my heart, some more than others, and they never fail to bring out the mothering side of me. As I've told Carol in the past, you needn't have children in order to express the nurturing side of yourself - there are so many different ways to express it.
Carol, I heard this on the way home tonite, but was skeptical & then there it was on NYTimes Sports & apparently on Youtube.
Seems an Albany,Louisiana guy, Wayne Spring told his friends on Facebook that if the Saints beat the Redskins last Sunday, anyone who wanted could come to his house & shoot his TV....well you know the rest of the story...
Carol, I was going to post that Fogelberg song, since it is something you almost always hear this time of year...& there it was...great minds think alike right?!....
Coreen, what can I say, that's typical for our Louisiana men. But at least when he made a deal, he stuck to it and it serves him right for beating against our Saints. And it was a 60 inch HDTV. Did you also see, he was a nurse?
Don, The main reason we went to Mexico City was to go to the basilica where the shrine of "Our Lady of Guatalupe" is. I went with 3 priests and a group of Catholics from all around this area. We celebrated mass in the basilica about 3 or 4 times. We went to alot of different churches in Mexico. Every one is more beautiful that the next.
Carol, I found my walkman while clearing my desk. No guarantees, I can't test it. But it's yours if you want it. It's bi-directional and has auto-loop.
I always liked the album that Dan and Tim put out, Twin Sons of Different Mothers. I would have posted some but I think they're more rock than would fit the mood today.
How often do we make friends that are much more like us and closer to us than our own siblings?
Too bad he left us so early. Seal reminds me of him and has become a new favorite.
Coreen, more news from the our area. I just heard that a woman was charged with assault after pouring a pot full of hot grits on her boyfriend. They had just had a fight She waited until he went to bed and then hit him with the grits.
If I were her attorney, I would go with the, breakfast in bed, defense.
I'd love it Don, but don't want you to have to go to the trouble to send it. Never know when someone might leave you some cassette tapes on your table outside.
I went to Wiki to read about Fogleberg. I didn't realize he died of prostate cancer. Was married three times and had no children. I wonder if the prostate problems had anything to do with that or if he just didn't want kids.
I was getting ready to say Don, our food is the best thing we have to offer. I'm not that crazy about grits either but those Cajuns can make anything finger licking good. Even dillos. They say it tastes a lot like pork.
Coreen, I'll be happy to send you some instant grits if you want some. The closest taste is probably hominy, which I think is normally sold everywhere. It's served like oatmeal, potatoes, and about anywhere else a starch might show up.
Yeah, I love Louisiana food Carol. My boss in the Air Force was married to a little gal from a small town there. She put together some gumbo that was absolutely incredible.
It's the heavy, bland, greasy southern food I don't like. The Central Valley area of California produces an amazing variety of produce, and the sea has salmon, cod, and halibut. Plus they actually use spices out there.
You're more than welcome to it Carol. My friends are all so plugged in they'd never be caught dead giving me a cassette. :^)
I guess you don't eat rice and gravy either Coreen. Since you don't eat meat, I doubt you eat gravy. I actually prefer mashed potatoes and gravy even though I don't eat it often.
I don't think many people up north eat rice. My mom was a yankee and didn't eat rice until she moved down here. She ate a lot of rice after marrying my stepfather who was a rice farmer.
Red beans and rice is a popular dish down here also but we never ate it when we were growing up. I asked mom why we didn't and she said it was because when she first came down here, after marrying my dad, that's all they ate.
Dad was going to try his hand at farming so he moved her out to a two room paper shack with a path, on some land we have a little north of here. She didn't turn out to be the adventurer my dad was and left him to go home to Chicago. He gave up that dream and she came back. Fortunate for Mary and I that she did.
Oh, the path lead to the outhouse. And she had to take a bath in a large wash tub placed in the kitchen. Imagine coming from Chicago to that.
Maybe I inherited a little of my adventurous spirit from my dad. The wash tub might be a bit much though.
Jan, I never got online either until I started reading this blog. Probably the last thing I would do on a cruise is get on my computer. In fact, I wouldn't even take it with me. We will miss communicating with you while your gone but when you come back, you can post pictures and tell us about it.
I really love NCL. When I go on another cruise, it will be with that same cruise line. I like the "free style" cruising.
I eat mashed potatoes, but not with gravy, & of course sweet potatoes, either with a little butter & I like plain white rice too. Never had beans & rice, I really am not a 'food lover' I would be described as eating to live rather than living to eat....
And when we say gravy, we mean mom's tomato sauce, its an italian thing, you grow up eating pasta w/tomato sauce aka gravy.... and I really like mom's sauce the best, nobody's can match hers...
Don, you must go to Sams and get that Morey's seasoned, marinated grilled salmon, individually wrapped and frozen. It's good. The only way I've had it better is when I bought some fresh Alaskan caught salmon off a boat in Seattle, seasoned and smoked it myself.
Speaking of your family, Carol and/or Mary, was just wondering are you & Mary alike or very different personalities, etc. I know you are twins & being an only child, I have no frame of reference about sisters/brothers.
Don, the food up in the Pacific NW area looks so good but they just don't know how to cook it. It's a shame to ruin such beautiful seafood and vegetables. I always carried some Tony's seasoning with me when I went up there, even out to restaurants They had no seasoning on anything. We like our seasoning down here in SW La.
I spent a significant portion of my vacations up there shopping for food and cooking for my sis and her family. She was always cool with my doing that.
Carol, You need to get down to Los Angeles or south. Get some of that New Mexico/Tex Mex spice going. I always keep a bottle of Tabasco with me outside of the southwest. I do like the clam chowder in the northwest, but see my previous comment on Tabasco.
Phoenix is just confused and I'd skip eating there altogether.
Get over into New Mexico you still get relatively fresh food because it's close, but you get the blue corn based menus and wonderful honey filled sopapillas.
Carol, Is this the seasoning you are referring to? We are just now seeing ads for it on Alabama TV. Or at least the first time I've noticed them. I pay a lot closer attention to "Louisiana stuff" thanks to you and Mary.
Right on about the food in NM. We went to our favorite little place to eat a couple of nights ago- this place has the best sopapillas around. John likes the chic enchaladas - I like the chili rellenos. I get sour cream with my order - keeps the mouth from burning so bad - course honey does that too.
Mexican or Southwest food was something I "did not like" when I moved to Houston in the 70s. It became an acquired taste. But once acquired, I wasn't about to let it go. The place in Houston that "started it all" for me was Ninfa's. Anybody heard of it? I was a certified "NinfaManiac."
Speaking of leaks in hotels, when we stayed at the infamously haunted Stanley Hotel in Estes Park which is equally infamous for its pricey rates, there was a leak dripping into our toilet from the floor above. We complained, but got no explanation, apology, or discount. It goes with the territory...when a Stanley Hotel ghost has to take a leak, he apparently does it from the floor above.
Yes Ivy, that's it. I think Old Bay would do also.
People down here will also call sauces with tomato products in them a red gravy. Many of the AA at the jail can't tolerate it. They come in saying they are allergic to red gravy.
Don, We love Loveland. We get to that museum in town every time we visit which is now about twice a year. My other favorite is the "Best Store By A Dam Site." I never leave there without a new pair of moccasins.

Coreen,
"Solar, my post reminded me of you & your views
about life.
You know what I like about circles..the beginnings and the ends...
And where would you find the beginning & the
end in the circle.....
Coreen I like that picture..makes me want to smile...I have one with clowns on it..same colors, and back ground..not silly clowns..but different types, smiling..thanks
Dark matter and black holes Solar.
Well, for once, I can make you smile...I don't
really like clowns much though...
Don, I still don't get the dark matter, its like trying to prove a negative...
Guys, its pumpkin time for me....see you soon.
Coreen,
I don't like clowns that much either..just the evolution of the faces of the ones that I have...I saw them at a night club once. called clowns alley..they made one think of the human transformation, that we all make, from time to time....they had it in their faces...not funny at all...
One of my favorite songs:
Circle of Life
I think like you do..there are many things on mathematical hold...I just like thinking that it is one, outer edge and inner.
Sorry Solar, didn't mean to spoil your fun. But that painting seems incredibly rich too me.
Quantum entanglement is the new theory that seems to say that everything is connected simultaneously and instantaneously some how.
Don,
No did not spoil my fun at all..it is all fun when these things are discussed, don't you think?
Incredibly rich to me also..could not be anything more richer...and please keep telling me where we differ...in the long run..what I seem to remember is that we have a different way of getting to the same place..mostly...
Im still going to hang on to "String Theory"..and everything is connected simultaneously to me..instantaneously is mmmmmmm like there is no space between things..and that would not make sense...unless that is not what should be taken out of that..thanks
We do seem to think a lot alike Solar. Scary, huh?
It means we're all interconnected in ways we don't understand and Alice just jumped through the Looking Glass.
"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."
Don,
Very cool: Together with what Ivy said the other day. about transition for the butterfly, sorta say's it all for me..Im just like Chloe, and give these type of things special meaning..and will copy this one down..but don't U be sweet talking the pinks here...here??
I think you're safe Solar. Remember, I'm Dilbert. Or Wally, as my friend accuses.
that last here. should have been hear..as in ..yeah i heard that..
Now you have me little brain in over time..and thinking, ..going to sit down in the dark, and do some breathing...and settle down...
"It means we're all interconnected in ways we don't understand and Alice just jumped through the Looking Glass."
As the ocean waves, the universe peoples...like i say...it's the synergy of it all..nite for sure this time...who does that sound like?mmm
Chloe, I loved the link to the pictures. I am going to keep it.The animals are all adorable and the surfing pics are amazing.
Solar, we are leaving on Xmas day and back 1/2/10
Here are the lyrics from one of my favorite old Joni Mitchell songs, "The Circle Game"
Yesterday a child came out to wonder
Caught a dragonfly inside a jar
Fearful when the sky was full of thunder
And tearful at the falling of a star
Then the child moved ten times round the seasons
Skated over ten clear frozen streams
Words like when you're older must appease him
And promises of someday make his dreams
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look
Behind from where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game
Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now
Cartwheels turn to car wheels through the town
And they tell him take your time it won't be long now
Till you drag your feet to slow the circles down
And the seasons, they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look
Behind from where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game
So the years spin by, and now the boy is twenty
Though his dreams have lost some grandeur coming true
There'll be new dreams maybe better dreams and plenty
Before the last revolving year is through
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look
Behind from where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game
Chloe, do you have "Goodnight Moon" to read to Emma. I saw the book today and just wondered if you have it. It was my grandchildren's favorite book. I loved it too.
Coreen, A really great picture and post. The green circle in the left upper area looks like an eyeball. The pic you posted would make a lovely quilted wall hanging.
You were right, Jan, it was nice to get out with some folks we had seen in London, and reminisce about that visit.
Now we're having some tornado watches. They don't get to have those in London every day.
Ivy, I am glad you had a pleasant evening with your London friends. Hope your tornado watches are just that - watches. Makes me shiver.
Good nite whoever is here.
Carol,
I guess that I should have just said it this way.
Solar, guess your storm finally made it here
overnite...about 4" snow fell, now pouring rain
& windy. Dodged a bullet since if it didn't turn to rain, probably a lot more snow... Slushy mess.
Luckily my driveway was plowed when I got up, so only have to push the slush away later or what is there will freeze tonite. Need Mr. Sun to dry it out, but not today....
Golf was always a good ole rich boys club, &
yes historically, lily white, not only blacks,
but other ethnics have been discouraged, & what about women, there are still counrty clubs
that I can not be the paying member of, right
here...
As far as Tiger's future, I suspect that down
the road, this will pass & when & if, he does
go out to play golf, as long as he keeps
winning, well everyone loves a winner....
I equate the behavior patterns of celebrity with $$$$ more than anything else, the richer, more powerful, the easier to indulge one's desires. People are just there to fawn over
them & they take advantage of it.
Solar, but please don't pick on Elvis, he was
a young, uneducated, talented country boy, who
again was insulated & indulged by those who benefited from his talents which led to his sad and unecessary end & now he has made them
even richer after his death...such irony...
My favorite Elvis song & fits my weather here
today.....
Kentucky Rain
Coreen,
Love Elvis...My son Tom recorded any and all songs ever made by him....I never liked him as an actor..but his gospel music is great..Just feel that he had the opportunity to get him self out of that poor ole country boy mentality...
Coreen,
Pretty cold here today, and will continue to be for a few months..now is when I just try to wrap my mind around the Idea, that it is going to snow, rain; and sleet for a few months...can't wait for the Super Bowl..change of weather not far behind..
"Just started snowing again..this one will stick"
Dean Martin - Let it Snow!
(I really loved Dean Martin, not just his singing, but his humor as well - I miss him)
"I can't say I'm surprised though. He's always been so controlled, so focused, so perfect, that something had to explode. I feel sorry for his wife and kids, but it could have been a lot worse. People pay a heave emotional price when they're that driven."
Wow, what you said there is so true. All of it.
Hi Ivy, Like Jan: I'm glad to hear that your night out was enjoyable and fun. I hope you're feeling better.
Ok then... over and out!
Chloe,
Ditto on Dean Martin..some people did not understand him...i think that I did..he was a good guy with some bad friends.and that lumped him with them...this happened to me to..loyalty is one of the things that you have to have in the circle of life...not blind loyalty....
You should try to do meditation, trans dental..
U on speed or scathing?..where are you going..
Maria,
I just met....Dang they did it to me again.....they love to leave me hanging in the wind...the windy city today....
Coreen;
Well, you got me all riled up.!!
When you said that I was letting Pogo beat me to the Punch..
My lunch call at 11: 31 was all stealth..and camouflaged ..his answer on the next post, was worth it...oh and I shot Max down, at the same time...he was flying high over Venezuela...with his drone plane of destruction...
Solar,
That city is always windy. At least every time I've been there.
Did you check the deodorant?? Don't feel too bad. They always leave me when I get on too.
Solar, Do you live close to Lake Michigan? My son's apartment used to be right across the street from the lake, and a couple of blocks from Michigan Ave. I loved it because I could walk everywhere.
OK, I guess I better check my deodorant.
Coreen, Do you get the email from your office at your house? I wanted to ask you about something (not law related) that you mentioned awhile back. It has to do with a Christmas present.
Maria,
U too, and I thought you had connections...I live about 15 miles from lake Michigan...I use to date someone that lived in the towers..and loved watching the sun come up over the lake in the morning.....that was very spiritual..not religious..but could see god opening his eyes....
Oh I don't use de-oderant..i still I use one of those floor cleaner solutions...last a whole week...maybe not.....
Mary,
yes, you can contact me through the website, or
my email is coreenesq@sbcglobal.net.
And Solar, wasn't that a couple of days ago
that you let Pogo beat you at lunch call....
Yes it was, and how did you notice that I let him...very astute..
I know that you are all just sitting back watching me talk like a fool, and laughing at me...PINKS....
were=wear....so what there is nobody hear anyway....
Coreen, your laughing at me; aren't you?
Solar, I'll have you know, I am somebody. And so is Coreen. You must be having a readin' problem today also. I am the one that was asking about Chicago.
And guys, I am home decorating my inside tree,
so I am just checking in when I go upstairs
for something....not ignoring you...
p.s. don't know what anyone else is attracted
to, but I am a sucker for blue eyes.....my
favs Don Johnson (Sonny Crockett-Miami Vice) &
Robert Wagner (who could resist him) & Tom Selleck (Magnum & Vegas).....
Thanks Coreen, Just so you know who's emailing, mine is thornwil@bellsouth.net. I guess the thornwil would have given it away, tho.
I've got to get going. I'm having Christmas next wk. and I haven't even started decorating or shopping.
Color, eye lenses any good??
Mary, see U later...nice not talking to U. Ha!

" Solar, I'll have you know, I am somebody. And so is Coreen. You must be having a readin' problem today also. I am the one that was asking about Chicago."
Mary, my 9:44 was for you.
Chloe,
I have two pics to add to Coreen's on this post....how?ooops please.
Here is what we are doing this evening... Don't know what to expect, but I've always enjoyed banjos. See if they are coming anywhere near you.
Béla Fleck Holiday Tour
(I haven't linked anything in a while. I have to keep practicing or I forget how to do this stuff.)
Solar,
The only way I know to add to a post is for you
to email the pics to the poster who can
then edit the post & add them...So if you want to email to me, I will add to the post. Pretty sure You have my email address.
Chloe, is there another way....
Here is a you tube of Béla Fleck banjoing with Steve Martin.
Béla Fleck on You Tube
This is a cool Béla bit...a commenter dubbed it "Pirate Jazz." You know how we are about pirate stuff around here...lol
Pirate Jazz
'nuff said...I'm going.
Solar, You'll like this.
http://bit.ly/61YBBt
It's funny, I'm working with a software package called solr search right now.
Ivy, I hope you have a great time tonight. It sounds like an excellent way to give your Christmas spirit a kick off.
Chloe, I found one similar, and have sent it too Coreen. there was a second one, but photobucket did not let me load it..but the one that did is a nice one..hope that it turns out..for this thread..fits.
Solar, I added the clown at the top, but
couldn't remove the print across it...
Coreen,
I couldn't either; and almost didn't send it to you because of it..but I liked it enough to ask you to post it..hope you like that clown.
Gracias Senorita.
Mary, if you are in the area, did not find
any mail from you yet.
My pleasure, That clown is cute, but like you better...& you do seem to be juggling lots of things....
Damn, it was suppose to have taken out the bottom lettering...if you want to take it off..go ahead.
awe shucks, blushing over here.! I can't do one thing at a time..I have become accustomed to do a juggling act, probably comes from building homes..there are always a few balls up in the air..and i have to admit that is the fun of it..
Chloe,
Thanks, I have done pics on a post before..don't know if I did more than one, and not added to one..but it would seen that in the edit part, it would allow it...
Coreen, Sent the email.
"It's best if you start with the first episode"
But we'll never have all those movies I want to see at the theaters in Texas.
... see you tomorrow.
Night Chloe.
Don, NP is nurse practitioner.
ahhhh.
Now I get it.
late getting in from work tonight. Enjoyed Modern Family -
Carol, your temp today was in the 70's - I am not feeling sorry for you any more. Our high was in the 40's.
Never heard of Enzyte - must look it up.
Don, we did our first cruise summer 08 to Alaska. We loved it.
Carol, I havn't had time to get excited yet - I usually don't even think about it until about the day before we leave.
Solar, how interesting that you posted a pic of a clown - and you don't like clowns - or was that someone else?
Ivy, I watched the banjo video. Steve Martin is multitalented. He is a rather complex man I think.
Time for bed.
Same here. 99,98,97
Good nite Irene.
Jan
If I go to Alaska again I want to drive up.
I think you're going out of Los Angeles this time, aren't you?
What I'd really like to do is a barefoot cruise. Too bad they went out of business. There's nothing like sailing wing on wing on a bright sunny day.
Jan, We went to Cozumel, Cancun, and Roatan (one of the bay islands of Honduras). Took the Norwegian cruise line. They have "free style" cruising. You can eat in any of the main dining rooms at whatever time you want and other than about 2 nights, you didn't have to dress up alot for dinner.
....96, 95, 94.
I thought I was supposed to find out what all of that was about once it hit 0. SOLAR!
mary, did you get to see any of the pyramids, or didn't you stop in the right places?
The concert was fantastic. More about the music tomorrow. In the meantime, does anyone else think Béla Fleck bears a passing resemblance to Craig Crawford? Watching Béla onstage tonight, I couldn't help but think they could be brothers.
separated at birth?
(I learned his name is pronounced "Bay-Lah.")
Flecktones Band members
Names and faces ...Jeff Coffin, Future Man(aka the Pirate, arghh), Béla Fleck, Victor Wooten
Béla Fleck has been nominated and won in more categories of Grammies than any other artist. He's up for three right now.
Twin Sons of Different Brothers?
Now we'll see how many remember Dan Fogelberg.
Glad you had a great time Ivy.
Here's the guys who stole the show...all the way from Siberia...
Alash Tuvan Throat Singers
Solar, I didn't see any pyramids on that trip but I went on a pilgrimage to Mexico City with a group from this area in 2004. We stayed in MC but took side trips every day. We saw some pyramids on that trip. I can't remember the name but, are there some called the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon or something like that?? That was a wonderfully spiritual trip.
Gotta get ready for work. Will check in later. Have a great day!!
Don, I got to see the Mayan pyramids in the Yucatan. I meet my older sister and her daughter when her daughter graduated from high school. I have mentioned that trip either here or on TM, maybe both.
We went to Chichén Itzá, Coba and Tulum. Each unique in it's own way. It was one of the most spiritual experiences I've ever had.
" Now we'll see how many remember Dan Fogelberg."
Don, I not only remember Dan Fogelberg, I remember loving this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Go6I2_PpBU LONGER THAN - Dan Fogelberg
... man that was a long time ago, but somehow it doesn't seem so.
Chloe, Here's a Dan Fogelberg I'm pretty sure
you will like, & Solar will too, & want to know
if you gave 'his' Cheyenne her apple....
Run for the Roses
Mary, I will find out how I can interact on the computer while on the trip. I just never get on the computer on trips. Before interacting on this blog I seldom used internet except for work. I do e-mail some of friends and relatives - but not that much.
Here is another one from Dan Fogelberg.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPhho6Iar84&feature=related
I have enjoyed the morning just listening to his music.
Thanks for the link.
Jan, yet another great song by Dan Fogelberg: Believe in Me. I'm so glad Don mentioned him this morning. I've enjoyed the links too.
With all the talk of Dan Fogleberg, I went to Youtube to listen to all of his songs that are over there. I love his music.
His song:
Same Old Lang Syne
is very appropriate for the season. Mary was just asking me the other day who sang this song.
Carol, I heard this on the way home tonite, but
was skeptical & then there it was on NYTimes Sports & apparently on Youtube.
Seems an Albany,Louisiana guy, Wayne Spring told his friends on Facebook that if the Saints beat the Redskins last Sunday, anyone who wanted could come to his house & shoot his TV....well you know the rest of the story...
Man
bets against Saints, gets his tv shot to bits
Carol, I was going to post that Fogelberg
song, since it is something you almost always
hear this time of year...& there it was...great minds think alike right?!....
Coreen, what can I say, that's typical for our Louisiana men. But at least when he made a deal, he stuck to it and it serves him right for beating against our Saints. And it was a 60 inch HDTV. Did you also see, he was a nurse?
Don,
The main reason we went to Mexico City was to go to the basilica where the shrine of "Our Lady of Guatalupe" is.
Carol,
Sounds like she had true grits.
One thing I've never picked up in the south, a taste for the food. I still eat like a Californian.
Um, except for cajun and creole food.
Not bad Carol....have no idea what grits are
though, remember I'm the non-cook.
I was getting ready to say Don, our food is the best thing we have to offer. I'm not that crazy about grits either but those Cajuns can make anything finger licking good. Even dillos. They say it tastes a lot like pork.
Here you go Coreen:
Grits
Thanks Carol, the closest thing to grits for me
would be Quakers instant oatmeal with maple sugar....
Not surprisingly...3/4 of grits
sold in the US, sold in the South stretching from Texas to Virginia, also known as the "grits belt"....
I have a little ball cap that says GRITS. It stands for, girls raised in the south.
Coreen,
I'll be happy to send you some instant grits if you want some.
Don, pass on the grits, I'll stick with a fresh chocolate canoli...Solar where did you go....
I eat mashed potatoes, but not with gravy, & of
course sweet potatoes, either with a little butter & I like plain white rice too. Never
had beans & rice, I really am not a 'food lover' I would be described as eating to live
rather than living to eat....
And when we say gravy, we mean mom's tomato sauce, its an italian thing, you grow
up eating pasta w/tomato sauce aka gravy....
and I really like mom's sauce the best, nobody's can match hers...
By the way, we called it macaroni or spaghetti,
none of this 'pasta' stuff.....
Don, you must go to Sams and get that Morey's seasoned, marinated grilled salmon, individually wrapped and frozen. It's good. The only way I've had it better is when I bought some fresh Alaskan caught salmon off a boat in Seattle, seasoned and smoked it myself.
I'm really sorry Coreen. The motto in our family was we live to eat. It pretty much the highlight of my day.
Speaking of your family, Carol and/or Mary, was just wondering are you & Mary
alike or very different personalities, etc. I know you are twins & being an only child, I have no frame of reference about sisters/brothers.
Totally different Coreen.
Faternal twins are just two sibling who happen to be born at the same time.
Carol,
You need to get down to Los Angeles or south.
Two reasons why it's so hard to solve a Redneck murder:
1) The DNA is all the same
2) There are no dental records
How do you know when you're staying in a Redneck motel?
When you call the front desk and say, " I gotta leak in my sink, and the clerk replies......"Go ahead."
...I resemble those remarks.
(^_~)
Thx Ivy,
I just dropped in before giveing up and now I can go to bed smiling.
And there's something wrong with those things Ivy? Sounds like home to me.
Carol,
Is this the seasoning you are referring to? We are just now seeing ads for it on Alabama TV. Or at least the first time I've noticed them. I pay a lot closer attention to "Louisiana stuff" thanks to you and Mary.
Tony_Chachere's
There's plenty more where those came from...lol
Right on about the food in NM. We went to our favorite little place to eat a couple of nights ago- this place has the best sopapillas around. John likes the chic enchaladas - I like the chili rellenos. I get sour cream with my order - keeps the mouth from burning so bad - course honey does that too.
The only place I can find grits here is the Waffle House and Wecks. I love grits with eggs -good times.
I hail from "Old Bay country" myself.
Old_Bay_Seasoning
I do miss the food in Louisiana - I used to crave it when I left there - especially gumbo. I have tried making it and all I make is a mess.
Ivy, love the redneck jokes.
Carol, I love your story about your mom and dad. Did they have your older sister before your mom went back to Chicago?
Ivy, I was reading from your link on "old bay seasoning" Where did you grow up?
Coreen, Is it usual for italians to call "sauce" gravy. I did not know that.
Ninfa's
Jan,
I grew up in Delaware and the upper Eastern Shore of Maryland.
"Is it usual for italians to call 'sauce' gravy."
That would be like the Brits who seem to call all desserts "pudding."
Stanley Hotel
Yes Ivy, that's it. I think Old Bay would do also.
People down here will also call sauces with tomato products in them a red gravy. Many of the AA at the jail can't tolerate it. They come in saying they are allergic to red gravy.
Maybe the ghosts get a cut in the profit at that hotel Ivy. For that, they have to do something.
So funny Ivy. I grew up just down the hill from the Stanley. I never saw it actually open, they were always working on it.
I was born in Loveland. I keep telling the ladies that makes me a natural, but it gets me nowhere.
Love the cowboy cupid though.
Ya just can't get decent sopapillas outside New Mexico and Colorado. I think the high altitude makes them puffier.
Don,
We love Loveland. We get to that museum in town every time we visit which is now about twice a year. My other favorite is the "Best Store By A Dam Site." I never leave there without a new pair of moccasins.
Love this place...
Best Dam Store
Only four more comments to go before we roll...who's awake to post a new thread...Carol? Chloe?? Help...!
A place to comment until a new idea is born is up...I was almost about to drop into the Dragonfly in Amber sleep.
Good move, Carol.
