The Gift of Knowing You

Hey everyone. This is Tony's beautiful Christmas tree, inside his beautiful home in Florida. He's been kind enough to share his pictures with us. Thanks Tony! And thanks Carol, for giving us this site to share with one another.
MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE

The Christmas Gift of Knowing You
"The Christmas season fills our hearts with joy;
Bright, happy days bring special kinds of pleasure.
We're wrapped in the excitement of it all,
The sights, the sounds, the smells, the tastes we treasure.

Yet when we have some quiet time to think
About our finest blessings all year through,
We focus on our family and our friends,
And appreciate the gift of knowing you!"

Thanks again Tony. A really gorgeous tree!

I took a chance, and chose the option of doing this post in red (and italics). If anyone has any problem reading it, or if it looks like 'code' again, please let me know and I can go back in to edit to fix it. Thanks.

Again: Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.

That's a lot of lights - a really gorgeous tree. You are so good at everything you do Tony!

Carol said...

Oh yes, I need to have a Tony around. Dang it Tony. I could keep your business busy about half the year at least. The Swamp may be a tad rustic for ya though even though it would look a hell of a lot better after you finished with it.

That's a beautiful tree Tony and we still have Coreen's decs to look forward to. Ya'll can do your decorations in bits and pieces and keep us entertained until Christmas. Like the 19 days to Christmas, my blog group gave to me......

Ya'll seen my decorations. If you don't remember just go back to the pic of the hummingbirds. Oh, I'll throw up a few more things as soon as I thaw out.

Chloe, were you up early this morning or still up late last night? A little insomnia? That's one thing that happens to us women when we hit the big M. Good sleep becomes a distant memory, at least that is, without better living through chemistry.

The Internet is a great companion for those with insomnia. Gives ya someone to talk to in the middle of the night. It may still be only yourself but your communication is still there when others join the world of the conscious.

Well, if you ever need an electrician Carol.... As long as you have internet.

Beautiful tree and artfully decorated.

I'm getting a tree today, but I just found out all of the family decorations were donated to a garage sale. We're a true footloose and tradition free family. I'm hoping I get to decorate the palm tree next year.

North Carolina is cloning Christmas trees now, which seems so odd. They get what they think is a perfect tree and then clone it, but they can only re-clone the clone so many times. These aren't your grandparents Christmas trees.

I saw yesterday that we had someone visiting here from DeRidder. That's a little town up the road a piece. Cute little town. I see this morning that Nederland, Tx is on the map. It's another small town.

I still wonder how people find us. DeRidder is close by but with the Internet it is no closer than China. We are all equally as close. Isn't that neat?

I often see stars on our map that are from little towns. And the Internet equals things out for those who live in little towns in other ways. They can shop at the same stores that everyone else does, except the fancy grocery stores. For that you have to go to a big city.

Great way to start the day...Tony, your tree
is really beautiful, thanks for letting us
share it....

And Chloe, many thanks to you for getting it to us...And including the 'gift of knowing you'
is an added pleasure as well.

Carol, I'm with you...I could keep Tony business busy at least the other half of the year....one of the down sides of having to do
everything yourself, it never all gets done....

Don, About those North Carolina trees, as I
said my Fraser fir is from there, & that pleasing evergreen fragrance is strong & adds
to the feeling of Christmas...

Time to get moving around here, it is only
32 this am, the driveway is wet, not white, only snow left is on the grass...which is fine
with me....

Carol said...

Morning Coreen and Don. I didn't see you slip in Don. Ya must have tiptoed in.

Anonymous said...

Watch for patches of ice Coreen, they're sneaky. I didn't have my first car for 10 days before I hit a patch of black ice. Of course where you are, the roads are probably well salted and sanded.

I started out to create a series of travel sites, like LouisianaTourist. I soon found out that 1) my girlfriend didn't really share my interest and 2) the US is really, really big. I'm in the middle of making them social media sites, where people can contribute and share income from them. Which is different from Google's model where people contribute and they keep all of the ad sales revenue.

Louisiana is a bit of a mystery to me. If you were showing family around Carol, where would you take them?

Carol said...

It would all depend on what they like to do Don. Around here, eating is one of the best things we have to offer. Right in my neck of the woods, I'd offer a river tour.

Coreen,i love the Fraser's too...

I don't have time yet to do more than scan the posts, but I wanted to drop in and make sure the post wasn't in 'code' again.

Carol, I didn't have insomnia, the dogs woke me up, then a few other things happened, so I decided to relax a few minutes by getting on the computer. That's when I found the mail from Tony, and decided I'd better do it then, while I had a little time (Ha.. a little time while the rest of the world was asleep, that is).

Tony's tree is so beautiful, and I appreciate him sharing it with us. Now I can't wait to see Coreen's and the rest. Mine won't be worth photographing, I'm sure. Very basic... like Don said, no family tradition here either. I 'never' expected to be raising another baby!

See you all in a little bit.

Jamie,
Thanks..You guys are the best..Its ironic how my disgust for the media and its treatment of Hillary steered me to TM and all you wonderful people..A true example of turning Lemons into Lemonade!!

Good morning Tony! I didn't need to do good work - you provided us with such a beautiful tree. Again, thanks so much tony. We were in need of some more Christmas Spirit here. Coreen and Jan kicked it off, and your tree added to the festivities.

(actually, Carol kicked it off with her balcony lights a few months ago, but that's another story. :)

Jamie, It is so nice to see a comment from you. We'd 'love' to see you here some more.

Chloe,
I know you never expected to be raising another baby, but I just know your the perfect person to do it..I felt much the same way with my niece, only I never expected to be raising a baby at all..My sister is not stable and my nieces Dad died from drug abuse so it just kinda happened..It really improved the quality of my life..I have noticed much since Ashley started living with me.I see so many things about her that come from me and that has been rewarding..When Ashley was 7 I rented and started her watching a childhood favorite of mine Dark Shadows.Ashley mentioned the other day she would like to watch it again,so one of her x-mas gifts is the whole Dark Shadows series..

Tony, nice tree.

Thanks for the notes. I was going to post that pic of your tree, band glad that Chloe did it first. Her message to go along with it; is so much better than mine would have been.

A little chilly today, and no snow like they said. Is there another profession; that is so wrong most of the time, and pay so well?

Cbc's Sunday morning; has a great show about Cerebral Palsy, and a cure thru dancing and message...It is now my favorite show to watch on Sunday's.!

This type of dancing is targeted to train the mind to control the body muscles Neurological dancing...cool.!!

Thanks for the pic of your tree Tony. Beautiful. Your pic this morning got me started getting ready for my annual work Christmas party I have out here. I wasn't looking forward to the prep except for the food. I like doing the food.

I got my karaoke out to dust it off and make sure it still works. Now I'm singing Christmas Carols. Back to not getting anything done. I'm easily distracted. I am making lists though. I need lots of lists.

..and a partridge in a pear tree.

Anonymous said...

Hi Carol,
Thanks.I remember last year you talking about your party..I love hearing about all the wonderful food you prepare..I've been putting on the radio every morning to a station that plays non-stop x-mas music. It fills the house with spirit..Lists are good!! I hate getting to the store and trying to remember everything..

Carol said...

Tony, I have a list that tells me when and what to do every minute for two weeks. I need structure.

Carol,
It only makes sense given your profession..I had a colonoscopy on Friday and the nursing staff just blew me away..So good!!

Tony,

Don't start that beautiful weather shit just yet...or ill go down there and train those dillos to come in and sing x-mas songs to you.

You have a mean streak in U than one-but me can see sometimes...I have a 20 min work out even before I get out of bed now..isometrics against the wall..I could e mail if you want...It is even better for lats, and chest than most wights or as good.!

Solar said...

Tony,

Maybe you can trap those dillos..freeze them and hang them as ornaments....( you know to what song this belongs to..so, sing along) on the 4th day of Christmas my dillos gave to me....hahaha...ok now you can raz me about the nice weather that you are getting... haha I crack me up sometimes...later gotta go to mass. Im giving the sermon today.:-))

Solar,
Glad you crack yourself up too!! You so funny! I think of you everytime i'm filling a dillo hole..Freeze dried dillo ornaments, lovely idea, but think i will pass...

Tony, forgot:

Once again thanks for the note, and the pic. I like coming here and talk about nothing, or about something that is on my ( so does the others) mind. Coming here is more like fun..I go over to tm to argue a little bit (that sometimes happens) and get serious ...sorta pleases my Jeckle and Hyde persona's...it balances the both of me's..

Darn, last week must have been "what's up your ass?" week.

Tony, you probably got extra attention cuz you had such a cute ass. Nurses do appreciate those kind of things.

And you and Ivy should have had a golytely party. You could have had a contest on who could doctor it up the best. Then put it in little champagne glasses to drink it.

Solar those dillos would go over better with my crowd but I don't have time to go hunting.

Excuse me, Oh Holy Night is now playing so I must go sing. Hold your ears Maggie, I have a little trouble with the high notes.

At this point I'm a little afraid to comment. Tony, I forget, where are you again? I remember someone being in Florida, but I don't know that they have dillos.

I've been trying to track down an old Air Force friend. He's like me, moves around a lot. Located his son, a junior, on facebook and it turns out he passed away a few years ago. His middle son saw my message and piped up with a "Hi uncle Don" was was very cool. I haven't seen them for a few years. His youngest is my godson and feeling a bit adrift, so I'm going to go visit him in Florida at the end of the month. Sad to hear my friend is gone and we didn't see more of each other, but he left some great kids behind.

People don't believe me, I always notice a smile first. I guess you have to have a great sense of humor to put up with me.

Solar said...

Hey Don,

Im sorry about your friend. Friends to me, is very special. My best friend John and myself enlisted on the buddy system in the Marines 68..

If he passed it would hurt just as much as if a family member would..and then we have 12 others that grew up with us..and they also joined in 68, in the Navy, Army. I should have gone in the Air Force..should probably still be in..or retired from it...should have gotten...see what I mean..I should have taken the opportunity they offered for it...now you can stay in touch with his son..you will remember him that way.

I have a joke about ass's that I have to find..meanwhile here is one for Coreen, Coreen, The tango machine, it's about trees:

Default Italian math
Italian math

An Italian workman wants a job, but the foreman won't hire him until he
passes a little math test.
"Here's your first question," the foreman said. "Without using numbers,
represent the number 9."
"Withouta numbers?" the Italian says, "Datsa easy." and he proceeds to
draw three trees.
"What's this?" the boss asks.
"Ave you gota no brain? Tree and tree and tree makes a nine," says the
Italian.
"Fair enough," says the boss. "Here's your second question. Use the same
rules, but this time the number is 99."
The Italian stares into space for a while, then picks up the picture that
he has just drawn and makes a smudge on each tree . "Ere you go."
The boss scratches his head and says, "How on earth do you get that to
represent 99?"
"Eacha of da trees is a dirty now. So, it's dirty tree, and dirty tree,
and dirty tree. Datsa a 99."
The boss is getting worried that he's going to actually have to hire this
Italian, so he says, "All right, last question.
Same rules again, but represent the number 100."
The Italian stares into space some more, then he picks up the picture
again and makes a little mark at the base of each tree
of each tree and says, "Ere you go. One hundred."
The boss looks at the attempt. "You must be nuts if you think that
represents a hundred!"
(You're going to love this one!!!)
The Italian leans forward and points to the marks at the base of each tree
and says, "A little doga come along and shita by eacha tree. So now you
gota dirty tree and a turd, dirty tree and a turd, and dirty tree and a
turd, data makea one hundred. So, whenna I start?

Chloe, you know just what to post with the pictures of the lovely tree.

Cute joke Solar.

I got a little Christmas decorating done. Michaels is already selling decorations for 1/2 off. I found some cute little owls and bird ornaments made out of tree and plant stuff.

Chloe, you were up really early this morning.

"The Internet is a great companion for those with insomnia. Gives ya someone to talk to in the middle of the night. It may still be only yourself but your communication is still there when others join the world of the conscious."

Carol, how true! there have been a couple of nights I could not sleep and just came in and did some reading of past comments. Its like having a friend any time of the day or night.

I doubt if I will put up a tree this year. John has a thing about decorating before Christmas Eve - and we are leaving on a trip Christmas day.

So Tony, I will just enjoy your tree.

Carol said...

Where are you going Jan?

Carol said...

Did John watch the Saints game? Was it on over your way? They came very close to losing. They trailed the entire game and tied it up at the end. Went into overtime and won by a field goal.

They were playing the Redskins who didn't have much of a record this year. I kinda figured we'd would have to most trouble with a team without a record.

Jan, Did John learn that from the Grinch? Wait, he decorated Christmas morning. :)

Chloe,
I hope you don't forget about doing a post with come Christmas pictures of Emma with her 'million watt' smile. I've been anxiously waiting. She is such a precious baby. I won't even complain if she decides not to smile. She is still beautiful.

Thank you for posting Tony's tree. He did a wonderful job in decorating it. Like Jan, I may not put up a big tree this yr. either. I may just put up my small fiberoptic tree with a few decorations. My son and his wife are coming the weekend before Christmas because they have to go to her family's for Christmas this yr. I have to work Christmas day anyway so it all worked out.

Hi Mary,
I will be taking a picture of Emma in one of her Christmas red outfits sometime before Christmas, and posting it here. I really love showing her off - thank you so much for all the nice things you said about her.

We'll have a small tree the Christmas too. She's so young now, that she doesn't notice things nearly as much as she will by next year. As the years go by, I'm sure the decorations will steadily become more and more elaborate, as well as the gifts. We're trying to keep the toys we're getting her age appropriate - I don't want her to feel too overwhelmed by what's going on.

I think you mentioned having grand kids too, didn't you? If so, I hope you'll be posting pictures in the future. If you want any help doing a lead post ever, I'll be glad to help you figure out how to do it. Just email me at: chloe@doubt.com

Anonymous said...

Jan, Like Carol, I'm anxious to hear about your Christmas trip you and John will be taking. Please let us know where you're going, and how long you'll be there. We just love it when you all share these trips with us. Especially when we often aren't able to take many trips ourselves.

Anonymous said...

Tony,
I don't know why I didn't mention earlier how striking that tree picture you took in the dimmer room, with the counter and reflections in it was. Later on, I thought to enlarge it and got an even better look at the detail of your decoration, and like I said before, it really is beautiful, as well as your picture taking ability being so good too. An amazing shot you got there.

With all the talk that went on today about asses, I thought I'd go ahead and link this:
George Michael: 'All I really need is music, sex and TV'

My speakers are temporarily not working, so I couldn't even listen to it, but the headline was enough to make it interesting. Ha! See you all tomorrow.

Carol said...

And Don, I liked your little pun up there. Cute.

Yes Chloe, you'll have a lot of fun Christmases to look forward to with little Em. You can get her a box this year. Does she like boxes yet? Isn't that the first thing they like?

Anonymous said...

Boxes or dir-dirs? You know what dir-dirs are, the tube from the christmas wrapper and you blow in one end going "dir dir dir".

A child's garden of grass (the official handbook for marijuana users). Lost my copy at the San Francisco Airport USO. Glad to see it's still available.

jan said...

Chloe, I too am looking forward to seeing pictures of little Emma all decked out in her christmasy clothes. Mary is right she is little doll.

John is taking us on a cruise to Mexico. We will fly to LA - the other LA- on Xmas day and then get on the boat the 26th - return Jan 2. I got my H1N1 shot the other day - so I am all set.

jan said...

The reason John doesn't like to decorate until Xmas eve is he says "Its not Christmas until then".

To be perfectly honest it doesn't matter that much to me. My mother was raised Jewish in her early years and then later her aunt took her to a Christian church. I think when it came to religion she was pretty confused. She put up a tree when we were kids but did not when we left home - and I have done the same thing. I have not put up a tree for years. I love to see other peoples decorations and decorated trees - just don't care to do it myself.

jan said...

Carol, congratulations on another win by your "Saints" I heard some of it while working on a quilt in the dining room. I have a big table where I can spread out in there and the Din rm is an extension of the living room. I am tickled for the Saints.

Ivy, I saw where Ala is #2 and Florida #1 - I don't get it.

Well, I am off to bed. Mon comes too soon.

Anonymous said...

I've seen some beautiful sculptured Hanukkah candles jan, and we could send you some dreidels,

I love the smell of a fresh tree. No fake trees for me. And just a gentle glow of lights at night when I turn off all of the other lights and play some soft Christmas tunes. This year i'm really enjoying Celtic Christmas songs.

In Turkey they used to decorate a pine tree for New Year. So we still got our tree, just a little late.

We also used to have the church advent calendars, putting a dime in every day until Christmas, then donating it to the church.

It seems like Christmas "traditions" come and go anymore. Like A Christmas Story and lamps made from stockinged legs.

Carol said...

Actually the tree isn't really Christmas anyway. It has pre-Christian roots and most likely the Pope dragged it into Christmas cuz he didn't want anything that's pagan to be popular. I used to watch all those specials they had on cable news around the Christmas season.

If I was married to John and wanted a tree, I would have used that argument. Or I may have said, if you want to wait until Christmas Eve dear, I'll just sit here on the couch sipping my hot cider and watch you do it all. I bet that is one that Ivy would like. She seems to know how to handle a man. I've been taking notes but I guess it is too late for me.

Of course, down here in La., most guys have already been hitting the cider for weeks and on Christmas Eve they are probably wrapped around some tree somewhere. There are a few good men here but they were spotted and tagged shortly after birth so if you waited until later to find one, it was too late.

But like Jan, I wouldn't care that much. Going on a cruise would be good enough for me. I've never been on one but Mary has and she loved it.

My older sister has often avoided Christmas by going on trips. Christmas is a lot of work. A little too much hustle and bustle for my taste.

I got a good start on my decorations yesterday. I also bought a couple of new strings of lights to replace the one I stepped on and broke over the summer. Instead of starting from scratch, I just have to patch mine up a little.

How are you coming Coreen. Just thinking about all that you are doing makes me want a nap.

Ya'll have a nice day today. Time to hit the old routine.

Chloe,
I used the twilight setting on my Sony camera.I liked the dimmer shot also. It turned out very well for an amatuer..

"A little too much hustle and bustle for my taste."

Same here Carol. By the times we get past it and New Years, I'm ready for a change of pace. Things just feel more normal by around March for me, which just may be my favorite month (as long as the sun's shining, and it's reasonably warm). Now that I think about it, I just love March.

Anonymous said...

Tony, I don't know if I have that setting on my camera - I'm going to check it out. It is an absolutely beautiful picture! You call yourself an amateur, but as far as I concerned, it doesn't get any better than the 'twilight' shot you got.

Anonymous said...

"I love the smell of a fresh tree"

So do I Don. It's like bringing a little of the outdoors inside. Another smell I love, is the smell of fresh cut grass - it just doesn't last long enough.

"John is taking us on a cruise to Mexico. We will fly to LA - the other LA- on Xmas day and then get on the boat the 26th - return Jan 2."

Jan, That sounds heavenly! I had to laugh, when you said the 'other' LA, because when we lived there, that's what everyone called it, not Los Angeles. When ever we traveled, and said LA, many people thought we meant Louisiana, and it always surprised me. Ha! People who live in L.A. think they're the center of the universe. I was so shocked when I moved here, and found out we weren't. :)

Solar said...

March is one of my favorite months also. It is I think your birthday month. It has been the first month that outside construction usually begins, and of course Golfing..it Emma's month also?

Jan that sound very nice, to cruise around for Christmas.

We still put up a Christmas tree, sometimes a real one, white, one, or a green one. my son Tom loves the trees he helps.

Out ornaments are from when he was 5 years old..Bert, and Ernie..lots of personal ones to hang along with the standard ones.

Personally I don't like to indoctrinate children at such a young age..that is what we do as parents..we set the examples that they will follow for decades..some break it and some don't.

The two things that we indoctrinate them into is that Christmas is a Religious holiday..they don't know that the churches made it theirs, after having Christmas against the church laws..it was another way of getting more money out of people..I think that Jesus wasn't even born until March, or April.

Another thing that they are taught, is that it's ok to spend a lot of money during thins time; and will even if they have to borrow to do it...I have convinced my workers that they better just buy some clothes for all of the family..just one shirt, or work boots.etc. school mtl, for the kids...just for this year anyway.

Im a big hypocrite most of the time; b/c I give into it..it is hard; very hard not to give into all of the beautiful music, and the feeling that for just fn once most of the world has a feeling of something that units them...but I know it is the merchants that did this thru deception..im just as guilty..I can't wait to see my little ones..enjoy Christmas..but even now that they are looking forward to this big day....I wonder if they would be looking forward to it ...if there were no presents involved.....three Kings with Presents..mmmmm

Carol,

I saw many stories on the original Christmas trees, like you did...and it was taken from the Vikings traditions..they used to bring it inside to keep their homes fresh smelling...and to remind them of the coming spring...it was brutally cold, and did even make it a little warmer..feeling

Chloe,

" We're trying to keep the toys we're getting her age appropriate - I don't want her to feel too overwhelmed by what's going on."

You are so right. I thnk we're given our kids to practice on so that when we have grandchildren we know what to do. My son was an only child and the only grandchild that lived close to my Mom and SF and, of course Auntie Carol. He was lavished with entirely too many toys at Christmas and it was overwhelming and he didn't appreciate them as much. When he got older he still expected the same quantity but the toys were more expensive. Live and learn!!

I am expecting my first grandchild sometime in July. My d-i-l is about 10 wks. pregnant. Jeremy didn't want me to say anything yet because they're so afraid something will happen but I'm so excited I can't keep my mouth shut. I've been begging for a grandchild.

Solar,
Christmas was in summer. The shepherds wouldn't have been out in the fields with their flocks in December. Brrrr, cold. They would probably have been in caves, where the sheep lived in one area and the family in the other. The so called stable.

And the wise men didn't visit Jesus until years later. The Bible says Jesus was a child when they met him, not a baby. Just more of the mythology that has been made up over the years.

Now we celebrate and give sacrifices to make sure the sun god doesn't keep disappearing and to make sure it turns around and starts coming back so we can celebrate Spring fertility with rabbits and chicken eggs.

Still, all in all the US has fewer holidays than just about any other country in the world. It's nice to have one that forces us to stop for a day and spend time with the family. Something we don't do enough since we don't live in extended family compounds any more. Of course, as crazy as my family is that may be a good thing.

All this talk of cruises, now I really want to go to Florida and feel the warm sand under my toes. A cruise sounds wonderful. I've been feeling chilled ever since Carol started talking about her 40 degree toilet seats. We're going to be in the 40s here all of next week.

Mary said...

Of course, Jeremy lives in Chicago which is entirely too far away. I know he doesn't want to move down here so I may have to move up there. Better put some meat on the old bones fast.

Yes that is the best reason for this holiday..I bet there are some families that resolve some of the problems that they might have had throug out the year; and a great excuse for them to do it....although when ever I feel that I need to clarigy something, I do it immediatly..time is not good to waste. being stubborn.

About the three Kings..I have a tape somewhere (hope that I didn't tape over it)the the three Kings were summond by Herod ( I think that was his name) the crazy dude that had lust for his daughter....any way, he had an interview with them when they were on the road..forgot most of it..so won't go into it...and the Herod was one of the finest Architects that ever was..he was actually a genus..a crazy s--t but a genus. I sent you an e-mail reply.

Yes I agree with this..and I bet that some families finally get thier bs resolved at this time. They waste a lot of time not getting what is separating them until it's too late.

Herod, that crazy dude (I think that it was him) that lusted after his daughter, and had that cute little belly dance from her; she was just a nutty...yes it was him and her she wanted John the Baptist's b---s on a platter, but go his head instead huh?

Well anyway Herod Antibas or something like that, found out that the three kings were on the way to meet the child jesus (one year old; or a little less)and had an interview with them..I have his life taped and I hope t hat I didn't tape over it..it was around spring or summer;yes.

This Herod was a nutty blood thirsty s--t but a an extraordinary Architectural genus; and built entire cities, and ports....around this time there will be a lot of true stories about the ancients. This how I put a whole picture together of what happened during those times..and that of what Anthropologists have come up with their dating techniques.

I remember a few years ago when they had one of the worlds leading forensic people come up with the 99% of probability of what Jesus really looked like, during those times.

I answered your e-mail note..thanks

N,

Cool nick. I can do a lot with that.

What im against is that the young minds of the children are indoctrinated into religion...the religon angle that the Catholic church comes up with is nothing less than brain washing....I don't mind the presents, or the good feelings...but I want to scream about how the church uses this to get some extra cash out of it.

There are ( know a few) some families that don't have a lot of money to even eat..and sacrifice that to the church, what for? it's like buying a lotto ticket..they are trying to buy their way into heaven, and to pay for a miracle..buy some food is what I tell them, god will love you for loving your children more than an empty building.

Ok I will mark Emma's b.day..but when is yours? I remember you telling someone the month but not the date..it is around April then..I know that im not far off, cos Tony the Baloney was talking about it; give it up sister.!!

Solar, I think I was in the twilight zone again. Where did that N come from, and how did you know it was me?? I guess Emma made it obvious, huh?

I'm not telling you, because you didn't tell me when you were having your birthday in July.

Mary, Congratulations on the grandchild that's on her/his way. Please keep us informed, and let us know once you know it will be a boy or a girl. Gramma Mary, how's that sound!?

Dirty tree and a turd x 3= 99 anda 99 % not a 100, but lets round it off.

I hate it when someone doesn't round things off. I had a secretary when I was in advertising..she drove me nuts..refused to round to the nearest dollar...we could have been talking about 5 dollars and 99 cents...and she would not round to 6 dollars..other than that.. im the one that drove her nuts...but that was just a short walk for her. HA!

Going to tell you all a joke that will make you more than smile..im tired of..cute Solar stuff..hang on to your diapers..on the next one...

Carol, its great you have some new heat. It is nice to be warm. We are having a heat wave here. The temp is up in the 40's during the day. We are expected to have a winter storm tonight and tomorrow. I would love to be snowed in.

I broke down and helped decorate the hall I am in at work. I was working on an exam and had a good momentum going on it - but 2 colleagues asked me to help and I decided it would be lots more fun to hang garlands and x-mas balls. I have a Univ of TX T shirt that says "you can always make up a class but you can never make up a party."

Yay! to a toasty Carol. Though now that she's hot I'm not sure what comments to expect.

It's funny, when I was young guys talked about cubic inches and racing, now it's megabytes and video games.

I'll leave women to Tiger. Gahhh, I have trouble enough with one woman. You can tell he's got lots of enablers.

Are you giving them a hard time at TM Solar? I doubt i go back. Maybe some time. I like debating to discover new ideas and information, but history is just twisted to a poster's own end there.

Didn't get my tree today. I'm hoping to get out tomorrow before it rains. I want to smell that fresh pine.

I guess it's a sign of old age, every once in a while now sleepiness hits me in the evening and I'm out like I've been hit over the head. And with my head you'd have to hit me hard.

Mary said...

Solar,

"Quit laughing and say something; once in a while!!"

How did you know I was laughing.
Actually "dirty tree and a turd" X 3 does equal 100.(dirty tree X 3=99 plus 3 turds=100). Don't even have to round off.

Mary said...

Thanks for reminding me Don that the only way I can be "hot" now is to get a new heater. Right now, that's good enough.

I can't wait to turn my heat down real low tonight and get under lots of covers knowing that I can use my little remote control in the morning to heat up the room before I have to crawl out of bed, and it will be warm.

I like your T-shirt Jan. I bet all your students do too.

And how many is it up to now for Tiger? 10? How did he have time for golf? I bet his putter is pooped.

Anonymous said...

<sigh> I wish someone would tell me where they keep the coffee around here. I'd put on a pot for us Solar. And probably Carol, she's an early riser too. Though she's probably playing with her fancy new remote controlled heater this morning.

Carol said...

Morning. Ivy, where are you? I missed you. Is everything OK? You know the rule. You can't go two days without checking in. It makes us worry. Usually I think I must have said something insensitive. I can do that without even realizing it. If I did, I'm sorry.

It was hot in here this morning after I turned my heat back up. I had to step out the front door for a breath of cooler air. It works. Actually it's only 57 outside so not a great test for the new heater.

I just scared myself. I looked at the Accuweather, on one of the tabs I had up before I fell asleep. It said 27 degrees tonight. That woke me up good. Then I realized it is Solar's low tonight.

Last night I was looking to see if Solar and Coreen were going to get snow today and that's where I left it. Our low is only 55. Whew. I'm not really to test my heater quite yet.

Eek! It says that your low tomorrow night is only 9 degrees Solar. I have several radiator heaters I don't need anymore. Want me to send them up there?

Ivy Green said...

Hey guys. I've been dragging myself through each day. I think now I had postponed my grieving because I had to focus on prepping for 'dat dumb c-scope. Then afterwards, it took more out of me than I realized. It all hit me on Saturday when I went to the house. Not even the Tide victory lifted my boat. Then on Sunday, some of the band members came and took their equipment and instruments down. No band practice for the Christmas party because the party is cancelled.

I have been focusing on addressing cards, putting up a few decorations, and getting my energy back. Tony's tree is beautiful. I remember the first time I spent Christmas in Florida...it just seemed so strange to be spending a winter holiday in warm weather.

Ivy Green said...

Ode to St. Nick

‘Twas three weeks before Christmas, when all through the house
Tide fans started stirring, in their cap and their blouse
The chips were all poured in a bowl without fail,
In hopes that St Nick soon would prevail;

The players were nestled all snug in their pads,
While visions of Championship all of them had;
And mamma in her sweats, and I just the same,
Had just settled down for the SEC game,

When up in Atlanta there arose such a clatter,
I turned up the TV to see what was the matter.
Out of the tunnel they flew like a flash,
A huge Tide of Crimson talking some trash.

The lights of the dome on the field down below
Gave the image of Gators moving awfully slow,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But the man they call Coach, and hold oh so dear

With his wide brimmed hat, carrying a big stick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles that Tide they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:

“Now, Cody!, now, Ingram! now Jones and Hightower!
On, Arenas! On McElroy! On Tiffin and Reamer!
To the end of the field! through the tall uprights!
Now dash away! Dash away! Fight, Fight, Fight!”

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
Ingram would run, and jump way up high,
And up in the air, the ball McElroy threw,
Down the field the Tide marched, a time or two.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard the band play
The Alabama Fight Song, the Million Dollar way.
As I clapped my hands, and cheered the Tide on
Down the field came Tebow, the fight was on!

He was dressed in Gator pads, from his helmet to cleats,
His uniform was torn, he’s started to look beat.
A monkey called Heisman he had on his back,
And he tried like a pro, just wanting some slack.

His eyes were glassed over! His smile had grown dim!
He can’t take much more, getting sacked yet again!
His cheeks were Bible verses, his nose in the air!
The smile on his mouth had lost all its flair.

He cheered on his Gators, through his clenched teeth.
And the frustration it encircled his head like a wreath!
I watched the Tide, and Cody’s round belly,
That shook when he blocked, like a bowlful of jelly.

They were sharp and decisive, a strong team indeed,
And I smiled when I saw them, bleed Gators bleed!
A wink of Nick’s eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He kept calling plays, and put the Tide to work,
And filled the scoreboard; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his playbook aside of his nose,
Gave McElroy the nod, 4th quarter had arose;

They sprang into action, and finished it right,
Up in Tuscaloosa , they partied all night!
But I heard him exclaim, as he was hoisted up high,

“Roll Tide to All, Cry Gators Cry!”

Carol, What's so surprising is that it is so often the ones that have the most to lose. He 'had' such a beautiful, young wife who seemed so devoted to him, as well as a very good mother to their two babies. It came from a complete lack of gratitude for what he had.

These guys think they'll never be caught 'or' are completely unable to think that far in advance. What a schmuck.

Hi...
I'm managing to lurk just bit....

Coreen....
IMO, the reason why TM is getting more and more contentious is because it's mostly males posting now.... too much testosterone... too many females such as yourself, Carol, Chloe, Ivy, and a few others have stopped posting .... the feminine side is not being heard enough.

Carol....
since my beloved Patriots seem to be on the down swing....
I'm rooting for the Saints to win the Super Bowl this year.
Besides.... how can a French lady such as myself not like a team who's insignia is the fleur-de-lis.... :0)

Ivy, thank you for the kind words about the baby quilt. I love that "Just when the caterpiller thought the world was over, she became a butterfly" I may just embroider that on the back of the quilt. Do you know who said those words - or is it your quote?

jan said...

Chloe, I almost expect this kind of behavior (Tiger) from the highly paid, highly visible male celebrities. John and I were talking about it this morning and I asked him, why do these guys do that, and he said "because they can." Reminds me of the joke "why do adventurers climb the mountains?" the answer from some is "Because it is there."

jan said...

I have to ask the question: Why do some of those highly paid, highly visible male celebrities NOT "screw around" when they also have the same opportunities.

We have some snow and icy roads this morning. I am so fortunate that Alb is in a valley and does not get the snow and bad roads that they get about 20 miles from here in the mountains and upper elevations. I do get the benefit of a day off or delay in getting to work that those in the higher elevations get. Lucky, Lucky, Lucky me - I'm a lucky son-of-a-gun. An old song my dad used to sing.

jan said...

Ivy, I just read your comment about how you have been dragging through the day and now having some grieving for your friend. It is so funny how different events or inanimate objects will remind us of someone we have lost and the sight of those objects or something about the event reminds us that the person is no longer with us. Remember that we are your friends here and you can share these feelings with us any time. I am thinking about you today.

jan said...

Grief is a funny thing. I have lost several close family members in recent years. Often, staying busy keeps us from thinking too much about the loss of loved ones. But then when we are quiet and no one is around and we don't have anything pressing to do, our guard is down and the feeling of loss can be overwhelming. I remember after my mother died 25 years ago, I was very busy in my doctoral classes and getting ready for exams and there was also lots going on with my sons. I stayed so busy during the day and I was studying for exams at night. Then the exams were over and I was on a plane with nothing to do and I just started crying and couldn't stop for over an hour. It was the first time I had cried since she died. For about 2 months after that I would cry at almost any thing that reminded me of her. The pain does lessen over time.

Phoenix was hard for me. My niece committed suicide at 21. She was just getting her life together after a very troubled childhood. I had a lot going on at the time she died, but I passed by the cemetery where she was laid to rest every day while I was out there.

I felt funny stopping by and talking to her grave, since I don't believe any of her is there. But it was the first time I'd had time to think of her death. Her mother kept her a part of our lives no matter what her mother and my brother were going through. My new sister-in-law makes sure both my nephew and brother never get a chance to visit our side of the family.

I grew up on hobo coffee Solar. Black and strong, over a campfire is best. I'm ok with tea, just don't put milk in, or we could put some chicory on for Carol. I just couldn't believe all of the people sleeping in.

I could just imagine Carol there under her blankets, turning on the heater with her remote until it got warm, peeking out, and then turning it off and letting it cool down so she could start all over again. Just because she could.

Solar said...

I can just imagine (I drew a pic) of her sitting on her 40 degree tolie- and her aiming that remote on it...but nope she had to warm it in another way....

jan said...

Don, I am sorry to hear about your niece's suicide. I feel the same way about cemeteries - that the person is not really there - but they are certainly symbolic - and I understand your stopping and talking to her. I have stopped where my mother was buried and talked to her also. In my journaling I still write her sometimes.

Carol said...

Ivy, good to hear from you. Great pome about the big "A". Who wrote it? That took lots of work and so soon after your big victory.

I'm sorry that you have been feeling blue in this red and green season. There's a lot of that going on this time of year even without having to lose a friend. This is a time of year where all of our past losses seem to come to mind.

I couldn't wait to get away from work today. Everyone I talked to, outside of my medical peeps, were in horrible moods. Glad they don't let any of them carry guns into the joint.

Nice to hear from you Renee. Guess everyone on the Trail is cranky also.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I have no idea who wrote the "Pome to St. Nick." Apparently it started making the local rounds right after Saturday's game. I got it from one of my "Monday friends."

It's a dreary night, and I have to put my party hat on and head out...more London folks are in town, and we don't want to leave them on their own in this god forsaken city.

Anonymous said...

I understand jan. I think cemeteries are really there for those left behind, to help them heal. My dad didn't want a service when he died, but I think it's necessary for those left behind. And friends are good to have at those times.

And in a really terrible segue, I looked up tolie in the urban dictionary Solar. Is this what you meant when you said she was sitting on her 40 degree tolie?
www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=tolie

I might thrown out for this one.

I'm not into necrophilia Don. At 40 degrees, it would definitely be dead!

Knew a gal once like U, only reversed about jokes...never could remember the joke..just the punch line...she was always telling the punch line, and laughing at the whole joke......

Jan,

When are you going on your cruise?

I didn't say his putter pooped. I said his putter was pooped. Two entirely different things.

Solar, how warm do you keep your place when it gets to 9 degrees outside?

I've written a new thread that started with something Solar said - which happens to be the title of the new thread.

Hope I'm not interrupting this thread though, so feel free to ignore mine for now. I mainly did it because I know we're getting toward the end of this one.

Also, Coreen: When I went in to do an edit on my, I saw that you have been working on one too. Please go ahead and put yours up 'whenever' you're ready. Don't let mine hold you back, because it won't bother me one bit if yours is ready now.

We're just going to have weeks of scatological humor, aren't we? It's like listening to the women in my family talk after Christmas dinner.

Freud would have a field day.
