The dawning of a new decade

Pat, on TM, linked an article this morning that got me really excited and it may do the same for you guys.

Oh boy, there almost over

Leonard Pitts called this last decade, we are about to say good bye to, the uh ohs. That's a great name for it. It started with that awful election and went down hill from there. It was a pretty rotten decade for me too! Maybe, it was because I let the beginning define the decade for me. I did focus on the negative way too much. I wallowed in the misery.

But it's almost 2010
I think this next decade will be great!
I can't wait.
A lot to anticipate.
No time to hesitate.
We need to celebrate.

We must all have great expectations for the next ten years.

I took a pic of my Maggie on Iphoney. Can you see why I often lose her on the couch? She's like an anole, she blends in real well.

Maybe we should give this next decade a name. A very positive name. Maybe we should define it before it starts so we can direct it is a good way. Have any suggestions?

And the Swamp has power, a mystical power. We have given it that power. If you write your goals here, they will come to pass. A little birdie told me so.

"Here's to better days."

Great post Carol, and so timely. The last line of his article is the one I quoted above.

I have to admit though, politics aside, I thought it was a really good decade, things were changing fast, and the years flew by too.

A lot of people are mourning the changes that have gone on, the impending death of the newspaper and other ways of doing things, but I look forward to a continuation of the changes.

Strangely enough, until you mentioned the beginning of a new decade, I hadn't thought of it in that way. As we look back on the different decades, especially the 60s and 70s, they all have their own distinct personality.

I think looking back on this one we're about to leave, we may see things slightly differently, once we can put it in perspective. The way I see it, is that in many ways it was a new beginning. 'Everything' changed. So whatever happens next, it's because of all the things we've just gone through.

Electronics, the new information age, the awareness that so many people have gained because of it, has changed us all for the better, as far as I'm concerned. Sure, there's a lot of disillusionment's, but a lot of that is because we have become more aware of what has been going on all along anyway.

Everyone here knows I love 'beginnings' as opposed to 'ends', so needless to say I'm very happy and excited to find my way into the new decade. I have very good feelings for everyone here.

So... 'almost' Happy New Year. My favorite day of all the holidays throughout the year. A new beginning.

ps I'm hoping at some point we will all share our New Years resolutions. I'm also 'hoping' Jack will join our little group too.

(... a secret fantasy: I wish I had more control over making things happen... but of course, I don't, and that's a constant frustration. :)

"Have any suggestions?"

'A new beginning'.

"And the Swamp has power, a mystical power."

Yes! I think you're right.
I like what you said: "We have given it that power." Ha! We may change the world! Who knows.

Carol said...

Yes, no one or nothing has power unless we give them or it power. That's sometimes hard to recognize but it is true.

Anonymous said...

"no one or nothing has power unless we give them or it power"

Absolutely!!
'Master of our destiny' and all that. That's one reason I get so mad at myself for giving power to so many things that aren't benefiting me in any way. I'm always having to work on that, and it's not easy.

I really enjoyed reading yours and Don's conversation at the end of the last thread. The psychology of those women is beyond understanding. It's easy to see where the guys are coming from, but women have to 'learn' to expect more.

I did watch a movie on TV yesterday (first time in a while): 'He's just not that into you'. I'd seen it when it was out at the movies, but the time must have been right yesterday, because I enjoyed it more this time. I'd forgotten about it, and in many ways it was as though I was watching it for the first time. If the timings is right, I'm going to see the one you saw with Meryl Streep tomorrow, instead of Sherlock Holmes.

I thought it was both funny and bizarre that your SF was excited about the young women, but not Meryl. Men never do change, do they?

Carol said...

Well, some may not be that way
Chloe. Solar and Don may be the exception. They do hang out with us, more seasoned, girls. But I'm quite sure they would break a neck looking at the young ones.

And by more seasoned, I'm referring to spicy, yeah the spice girls. That we are!

Coreen said...

Not sure what I think of the soon to be ending
first decade of the 21st century.

As far as political, it started off as bad as it could get, so in that sense, going forward, I would say it can't get any worse.

Anonymous said...

"I'm quite sure they would break a neck looking at the young ones."

Undoubtedly.
Just seems somehow obscene for men to be lusting after women that are young enough to be their granddaughters and beyond. Just my opinion.

Well, got to get things done. Thanks for the great, 'ponder' provoking post this morning Carol. I didn't even know I had all those things inside of me, wanting to be said.

Carol said...

Must be careful saying, it can't get any worse, Coreen. I don't want to challenge the universe. It is better to say, it will be way better. It will be grrrrreat!

Anonymous said...

"going forward, I would say it can't get any worse."

Well, that's a start Coreen. :)

Anonymous said...

"I don't want to challenge the universe."

Never!!
(... we have to be so careful about what we 'think' and 'expect'.

Anonymous said...

Mg, I have such a hard time leaving a room where there's good conversation.

Coreen said...

I am somewhere in between the two of you in any
assessment of this decade. Will have to think
about the positives & the most negative would
have to be the September 11th attacks and its
consequences.

How about simply....here's to the future.

Carol said...

And I think Chloe that men who like these young mindless women are men who really don't like women at all. They think of them as a tool, no, more like a receptacal. Ponder that.

Anonymous said...

Carol! Where did the beautiful flowers come from (and why didn't you use those for your post!)

Anonymous said...

oops .. I mean Coreen.

Anonymous said...

I agree Carol. They're using them. They want control (and easy gratification). And no matter what I said, I don't really think all men are like that.

Carol said...

Yep, all the "C"s here can get confusing at times.

Anonymous said...

The three C's.
Don't even think about messin' with us!

Carol said...

I think that was the central theme is in "It's Complicated". Alex's character realized that. That's what I liked the most about the movie. All men need to see it. I wonder if the screen play was written by a woman??

Carol said...

Yep, writer/director is Nancy Meyers. I knew it.

Coreen said...

Oh and back to the discussion about women & men
& their preferences in the opposite sex, I think when a woman is drawn to the 'bad boy'
she is enticed by the mystery, the unexpected, and she also thinks, usually incorrectly, that she can influence and 'change' him (there's that word again used much to often recently).

And men wanting the proverbial 'younger woman'
a way of men trying to stay young.

The trophy wife is a status thing to powerful men, and since women continue to be second class in that power thing, when they choose a younger guy, it is considered somehow scandalous,& something to snicker about, not a symbol of their success. The good old double
standard.

Carol said...

I know two women who are married to men about 20 years their junior. Neither are good guys. Both are users. They both want to be taken care of. I think that would probably be the same for much younger women.

Anonymous said...

"... since women continue to be second class in that power thing, when they choose a younger guy, it is considered somehow scandalous,& something to snicker about, not a symbol of their success."

... yes., if a woman does the same thing, then it should be considered in the same way it is if a man does it: inappropriate (at least as a general rule).

The part that bothers me, is that men aging is not considered in such a demeaning way, as women aging (at least in our culture here in the U.S.) . Double standards. And conveniently in the man's favor, as usual.

I do agree with everything you said Coreen. It's all very true.

Carol said...

But there are those times when two soul mates meet and age is not an important factor. Even gender may not be.

Anonymous said...

"They both want to be taken care"

... isn't that a little like selling your soul?

Anonymous said...

"But there are those times when two soul mates meet and age is not an important factor"

Yes, you're right. That's why I said inappropriate 'as a general rule'.

There are exceptions. Exceptions are what usually bring people together. Ain't it grand!

Anonymous said...

Nancy Meyers also directed that movie Carol. It wasn't that long ago that women didn't direct movies.

... (I talk more when I'm not here, than I do when I am)

Coreen said...

Carol,

As far as my personal choices, I do prefer men
in my same age, professional, educational group, who have for the most part share the same frame of reference.

Rarely would I want to be around someone who doesn't remember say Don Mattingly, Reggie Jackson as my Yankee connections & history, and just know the Derek Jeter years (though I love him to pieces & no one can ever say a bad thing about Derek in my presence) or who doesn't know rock & roll music (from the 50s, 60s, or even the disco 70s) other than knowing it as 'oldies'.

Carol said...

Your not here Chloe? Are we hallucinating? I don't want hallucinating to be how I start my new year.

Carol said...

But those oldies have survived Coreen. Young people know our music. It lives on and on.

Anonymous said...

Your not here Chloe? Are we hallucinating? I don't want hallucinating to be how I start my new year."

Don't think of it as a hallucination, just a figment of your imagination. Is she or isn't she? Only she knows for sure.

Coreen said...

But they don't know it as having lived it,
that is what I am referring to, as far as my
choices as being comfortable with people that
I want to have around me on a regular basis.

Anonymous said...

"..here's to the future."

Good one Coreen. Saying that shows a good expectation, an ability to accept what comes our way... and to actually be looking forward to it.

By the time you get to be our age, you pretty much know there's not much you won't survive.

Anonymous said...

"But they don't know it as having lived it"

Yes, there is a difference.
Besides, I think of those things as representing everything else too. It's not just the music, it's all the other stuff too.

Anonymous said...

"comfortable with people that
I want to have around me on a regular basis."

... an important part of controlling the things we think about (which is the only control we really have).

Carol said...

"By the time you get to be our age, you pretty much know there's not much you won't survive."

But we would rather not be tested. During the last 10 years, I've felt like the mattress that was run over by the steamroller. I did survive. This mattress is OK, no further testing is required or desired.

Coreen said...

Chloe,

Since it becomes one's own responsibility to
adapt/cope (whatever word suits you) to those
events that personally impact, the only way is
to step forward, you can not go backward anyway(well, not unless you are Solar---who seems to be able to step back in time).

And back to my old saying 'only the strong survive'.

Carol said...

And I really don't want to keep that extra mattress pad I have acquired.

Get in shape is one of my official goals.

Coreen said...

Chloe, the music, the sports references, were
my examples of explaining my preference for
those of my own age group. It is all your life
experiences & I would in the end rather have
those around who share those things.

Coreen said...

And Chloe, the roses were from one who knows
I love roses & wanted those Christmas colors.

Anonymous said...

"I would in the end rather have
those around who share those things"

I agree 100%

The roses are so beautiful Coreen. Someone has very good taste, and obviously thinks the world of you.

Anonymous said...

"back to my old saying 'only the strong survive'."

Darwin would agree with you. He's my hero.

Anonymous said...

"Get in shape is one of my official goals."

I like that one, except that it sounds like it'll require work. I'm not sure I'm ready to commit to more work just yet.

Anonymous said...

I love roses too Coreen. Those, and potted yellow daisies (which is my favorite flower).

Carol said...

Guys, I think if we list our goals and then each commit to meditating a couple minutes each day for everyones successful meeting of those goals, we could achieve wonderful things. There is power in numbers and we do pretty much surround this country. We can make a power circle here.

Coreen said...

I love all flowers, but roses are pretty special. Have tried to grow them, but the
buds get eaten before they bloom...but love
the deer as well....

Coreen said...

Need to get moving, have to go out for awhile,
see you later.

Carol said...

I'm slowly working on getting a move on today also. Another goal, cut down on my procrastination.

If you haven't noticed before, most of the regulars here come from states that surround the US. Just an interesting phenomena. We do have a couple of little holes in the north central and south/central west coast. We need someone from California and Montana or North Dakota.

Anonymous said...

"cut down on my procrastination"

Don't know about that one. We may end up with no one here. I'll have to put that one on the back burner (and not turn it on!)

" That's the one where i made her stick her hands up ( a robbery )...she didn't even have any change...give the kid an allowance will U.!"

Solar, That is 'so' funny. I can't tell you what a laugh I got out of it. I'm glad you liked the pictures of Emma. Thanks.

Hope you're all having a good holiday weekend. We got out to a movie today. There was not too much traffic out-and-about early afternoon. But by the time we had seen the movie and gone for a nosh, it was snarling up all around the malls.

We saw "Sherlock Holmes" with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law. What a great duo with a surprising flair for the comedic! The movie had action, suspense, and romance, plus the scenic backdrop of Victorian London. For themes, there was a touch of "Harry Potter," and a dash of "Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot" (some of you may recall I referenced that historic event on its anniversary day November 5th when they burn the old papist in effigy). It's a PG-13, so you can take the older kids, and you won't have to avert your own eyes from unseemly guts and gore or too-overt hijinks. The ending gave hints of a sequel, and I hope there will be one.

Carol said...

Hi Ivy. Did you have a nice Christmas? I thought about seeing that movie yesterday but I didn't think my SF would want to see it. I was trying to perk him up.

C-Bob linked a thing today about Audubon's Christmas bird count they have every year. Have you ever participated in something like that? I think it would be neat but don't think I could count birds. They fly and often in different directions. I'd get dizzy trying. I wonder how you count birds. You know?

I was noticing today that the only little birds I see at my feeders are the sparrows. I haven't seen any of the American Goldfinch or the Carolina Chickadees I usually see in the winter. I wonder if they haven't gotten here yet or if their not coming. What's different this year?

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
We had a nice Christmas. Hubs cooked a turkey and we had all the favorite side dishes. I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies that morning.

The only thing that made me feel bad about the day was my brother called just as we were filling our plates, and wanted me to download Skype right then so we could video-visit. I told him no, it was not the time for me to learn new computer technology. He hung up then, sounding very disappointed. I still feel bad about saying no, I wish one of us had thought of it before the turkey was cooked. I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard, but my learning curve with new stuff is slow and long. I just didn't want to put my plate down and come back to cold food. Selfish of me, I 'spose.

Ivy Green said...

I have gone on the Christmas bird counts. Depending on the temperatures where you live, it is an enterprise for the hale and hardy, but very exciting for the true birder. The die-hards love those treks (as I once did), but there also ways for the more sedentary kitchen-window birders to participate by calling in your feeder count on the appointed day. Local Audubon or other birding societies will post that information on their websites.

I haven't been over on TM today, but I will go look for C-Bob's post. I don't know why, but I just love that guy. He is the real deal. Last summer, I had the chance to introduce myself to an old friend of his in Estes Park. The fellow asked me how I knew him. I said "secret society." lol

Ivy Green said...

I worked hard on baking those cookies. But I had to throw out the remainders when we got home from the movie. My kitchen is being invaded again by ants. (Remember when I to microwave the dog kibble?) They managed to penetrate the cookie tin I had stored the treats in. I won't rely on those old-fashioned tins again, pretty as they may be. The cookies I stored in Glad Ware was safe, but that was the small batch.

So, I have been busy this evening emptying out cabinets and spraying Raid, much as I dislike spraying near the food prep.

Ivy Green said...

"Sherlock Holmes" won the Christmas box office.

Here is a link to the NYC Christmas Bird Count from the Marie Winn page that is always so informative.

Carol said...

I fell asleep on he couch tonight kind of early and couldn't wake up. The grip of sleep wouldn't let me go even to get up to go to bed.

Thanks for the bird info. I tried to go to one of the links there and it held me captive trying to sign in to a google blogger account. Don't know what happened there and it's too early to try to figure it out.

I understand both ends of that sibling thing, the not wanting to do something because you're busy and the wanting to have your sib do something she doesn't want to do because she is busy. I've been in both places and everything will be OK.

I have that Skype thing already on my computer but haven't ever tried it because I don't know anyone else with it. Maybe I can call your brother.

And yep, C-Bob is a very cool guy. I just love the stuff he drops at TM. He was particularly amusing and informative on the last post. With the slow down over on the Trail, it's a little easier to keep up.

Now off to bed again.

Carol said...

Good morning. I slept late this morning because I went to bed late. I usually put my earphones on and listen to Coast to Coast at night, if it is late enough. The main program starts at midnight here.

Last night's topic was reincarnation and past lives. The guy being interviewed, I can't remember his name, was a shrink and does past life regressions. It was an interesting program and then my little AAA batteries died.

I didn't have any more batteries unless I wanted to get them out of Maggies rolling Hedge Hog. I would have had to take apart Hedgy to get a ball out and then use a screw driver to take apart this little thingy where the batteries went. Nope, it was definitely too late for that.

Carol said...

If these Shrinks can regress people to their past lives, there must be something to it. I do believe in reincarnation.

The reason some of these Shrinks do this past life regression is to rid people of some of their serious phobias. They are often the result of how they died in one of their past lives. One story I did hear, before the radio failed, was about a woman with an intense fear of heights. She had fallen off a clift, to her death, in one of her past lives.

Would anyone here want to know about their past lives?

Ivy Green said...

Carol said: "...would have had to take apart Hedgy to get a ball out and then use a screw driver to take apart this little thingy where the batteries went. Nope, it was definitely too late for that."

Exactly how I felt about getting and figuring out Skype during Christmas dinner." lol

Carol said...

I don't think you should feel bad about that. Does you brother live in Colorado. It's two hours earlier there? Did he know you had just sat down for dinner? Boys with their toys!

Carol said...

I don't know anything about Skype except that Oprah uses it to communicate with some of her guests at times. It is already loaded on my computer but I'm not sure I can use it with my wireless Internet. I will have to pull it up and check it out.

Carol said...

This morning I slept in late. I saw Maggie reach up and get her little harness off the night stand and carry it in the other room. I guess she thought she could take herself out. I got up.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,

Mon frère lives in Castle Rock, it's one hour earlier there than here. He usually doesn't know what time it is no matter where he is.

Carol said...

Good thing I have google when I read your comments Ivy. You have definitely increased my vocabulary even though I would never be able to use any of those words around here without someone offering me an antipsychotic prescription. Last night I was looking up nosh and papist. I'm guessing that mom frere is your brother.

Carol said...

But then someone might consider that you have multiple personalities.

Carol said...

I just looked at Skype and I do have to download it. You also have to pay to use it. It doesn't say how much in their ad. You have to set up an account and I guess they charge you per call. I wonder if you can connect multiple people. Does you computer have video.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
By "have video," do you mean a little camera?...answer is yes.

Ivy Green said...

I took a picture using it once, but I have no recollection how.

Ivy Green said...

I suppose I should start figuring it out now, and keep practicing with it every day, so I will be ready for next holidays.

Carol said...

I have this little camera on the top of my laptop screen. It is probably watching me right now and I haven't even done my hair and makeup. Scary thought.

Ivy Green said...

As soon as this CBS Sunday Morning show is done, I'm going back to bed. I didn't get enough sleep last night.

We haven't seen hide nor hair of our boys the last two days. What interesting things are they up to?

It's beautiful outside today. I still have to do my grocery shopping and I need to take the Magster for a long walk. We will try to count birds on our walk. I'll let her do it.

Ivy Green said...

Have a great walk, Carol. You may inspire me to do the same...after my nap. lol

Carol said...

I added a pic of the Magster to my post.

I'm waiting for my Saints to start their game today. Have they fizzled for the year?? Can they beat Tampa Bay with a 2-12 record? Will they wait until the last 2 minutes? Lots of questions.

Ok,

All caught up. Some pretty interesting stuff, that you pinks were talking about.

Just speaking for my-slef: I don't mind taking a peek around the corner, and seeing a well developed ankle, or a little bit more; but when I talk to some women, if it is going to be at some length....she has to have more than just good looks..she should be smarter than me for one thing....willing to share what she knows, and doesn't want to change me...only the real smart ones know this.!!

U can say that again.!

I have know more than a cpl of good looking women that have turned me off, b/c they had a terrible case of "Truck Drivers mouth" nothing worse than a good looking women that swears like a truck driver....

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind some one that uses profanity, during a good conversation, and makes it part of it, not the other way around....

I have always liked older women...probable b/c they had a lot more to offer, than most young ones that never wanted to talk about anything other than their hair, or clothes, or frivolous things...don't mind them, they are included with some other talks about something interesting...

Can't stand the type that is always scheming, always talking about someone else, or criticises jut for the sport..I have a sister in law, that is very good looking, but seems very ugly to me...she has done a lot of harm in her day......

As far as men are concerned, I won't hang out with a small minded one..one that can't seem to talk about anything else, other than sports, or one subject, or the ones that need to be big shots, or tough...I can't stand a tough guy....

Solar said...

I don't think that any women, or man for that matter is worth the suffering that some people go thru, just cos they don't want to be with them...If it wasn't meant to be........

I was engaged to some gal named Sue, when I enlisted in the Military. When I made it home to her, she way already married to someone else. Pissed my off more than hurt me, b/c I knew the Jerk... he was scared that I would harm him when I saw them.

Boy that was a close one, I thanked him, and told him to take care of her...I gave her one good night; of Patsy Cline music, a bottle of tequila, and haf a case of bud...only one night of that..she did want to talk to me to explain her side of things.

She went to our club pic-nick with me, and she said that she made a mistake, that she was going to get a divorce...not for me I told her..we had fun, for the last time..told her husband, thanks for taking her off my hands once again.......and wouldn't you know it; the very next girl that I had an interest for was also named Sue.....I was a great month, and then had to get back to the Marine Corps...

Your not going to believe this...but what do U think of the name of the very next girl that I met was????

Good evening,

Solar, glad to see you were here. Hope you

Not sure what you thought of our discussion yesterday.

Its been a really lazy day today, once the
rush to Christmas is over, its nice to sit back
& just relax.

Today was a really nice day, sunny, mild (50)
and all the snow is gone. It rained yesterday
& fog rolled in & this a.m. all the snow disappeared.... But the nice day is really
short-lived, tomorrow we are back to maybe 30.

Coreen said...

Oh my goodness, Carol, sorry....but just keep thinking your team is playoff bound no matter what, & again, better to get the loss over now & be ready for the playoffs.

Not too much to think about your conversation yesterday...sounded a little angry? I agree with the thought that older Men go out with much younger ones, just to feel young again.

Whats the reason that some women do it...the same, or; to get even?? Father figures? Security?, I do think that there is a little of the feeling of a new adventure for them..

Solar said...

Some old guys, might go out with a younger felmale, just for showing her off, to the other older men in the club... Wanna know the reason that I would go out with a younger one...??? oops have to go...see you tomorrow.!!

The I-Phoney takes pretty sharp pictures. Did you choose the couch to go with Maggie or the other way around? She matches pretty well. You probably don't notice any dog hair until you get up. lol

Hi Solar,
Like Coreen, glad to see you here today. We missed you. We never laugh as much when you're not around either.

Have you made your New Year resolutions yet? I haven't yet, but intend to. Am wondering if you took any picture of any of those cute little nieces and nephews of yours? If so, hope you'll share some of them with us at some point.

Carol, Maggie is so sweet and cute. Glad you added her to the top of our page.

Anonymous said...

Coreen, Glad to hear you're enjoying a beautiful sunny day. It's been the same here.

Carol, I saw 'It's complicated' today, and loved it. Meryl Streep just keeps getting better. A very entertaining, original screen play too. I'm so glad I saw that instead of Sherlock Holmes.

Her son in law in the movie is 'so' funny. I've seen that guy before, and he's always so clever.

... Ok, I just looked up his name: John Krasinski. He was the funniest part of the whole movie, but they all were great. Meryl was awfully funny too. Steve Martin, a little more serious in this one.

Carol said...

Chloe, Meryl's SIL in the movie plays on the Office. I thought he was one of the best characters in the movie also. He's a cutie.

I loved the part where Alex's character was laying on the bed, naked, in front of the computer while it had a video phone connection on. Probably Skype.

You can tell the movie was written by a woman, and probably a woman whose husband left her for a younger woman.

Maggie says thanks. I got the couch after I got Maggie, Ivy. And she doesn't shed at all, not one hair. That was a bonus. And see why I often lose her on the couch. I'll call her and she won't move a muscle.

That was the first pic I took with Iphoney. It did pretty well and it wasn't even very light in here at the time. Since it wasn't a camera with a flash, it didn't startle Maggie. Kind of sneaked up on her.

And Coreen, I'm totally disgusted with sports! I'm through with them I tell you. Never was much of a spectator anyway.

Coreen said...

No, can't stop now, Carol. Believe it or not
my poor NYJets are 2 minutes away from beating
the undefeated Colts.....Miracles do happen, but there are still 2 minutes......

And I am now signed on Facebook from the other
day & have no clue how it works, I just pressed
to add you Carol, but you have to approve....

Carol said...

Go Jets! They are going to beat the Colt! 29-15. That's one upset that makes me happy.

Coreen said...

You see, you need to have faith!!!...And if
the Jets manage to beat the Bengals at home next week, I'm pretty sure they make the playoffs.

Coreen said...

Now if the Redskins could somehow beat the
Dallas Cowboys tonite, the NYGiants are still
alive after losing awful today in the last
home game for them to ever play at Giants Stadium. (new stadium for next year)

" I loved the part where Alex's character was laying on the bed, naked, in front of the computer while it had a video phone connection on. Probably Skype."

I also thought it was so cool that her and Steve Martin were building their relationship online. There was something more intimate about that, than when they were together. Seemed like a good way to get to know each other. And fun.

One of her friends in the movie is Rita Wilson (on the left in this pic), who is very happily married to Tom Hanks. N.Y. Premier

Hilarious, when Alec Baldwin asked her: 'Why do you keep calling be 'Big guy'. Is it because I'm fat? He was very good in it too. That movie was a good example of the kind of movies I'm always looking to see.

We're official friends now Coreen.

Coreen, I clicked on Carol and a few others to add as your friend. I don't know if they send you the email, or them.

Once you add a friend, they will get an email, where they click to accept you, and vice versa, like when I added you. You'll catch on quickly to how things go there. We all learn it just a few months ago, but don't go there much. Still, it's fun to have it available when we do want to check it out.

I liked your picture!

... if you look at that premier pic, scroll down about a third of the way - the top pic is of some very young actresses.

Coreen said...

Thanks, Carol & Chloe. All of a sudden there
were several emails about facebook, with tony
& Patsi's to add, again I pressed it & was
able to see some beautiful pics of Patsi's
granddaughter Maria. She is beautiful.

And I thought Solar was a friend, but he is not
on my list of friends. I have no idea how it
works. Am I supposed to bookmark my page or all of them?

I like 'talking' here.

Solar is your friend Coreen. That's how I got the link to your facebook page. I think he is listed under Paul though, instead of Solar. With no pic.

Carol said...

Coreen, I don't know what happened to the Saints. They look like someone put the voodoo to them. How did they fizzle out? They couldn't do anything in the second half of that game. I had company come over and was outside so I missed most of the second half.

Coreen, You just bookmark your page, but you may have to sign in more often.

Then, when you're on 'your' page, you will see your list of friends on the left. If you double click on a friend's pic, you should then be over on their page. To get back to your page, you click on your name: (you see it up top).

To write on your own page, you can type whatever you want in that top box, and only your friends will be able to see it - it'll go over to their page as a comment too. You can also type into the box at the top of their page, if you have something special to say to them (like I did yours).

I get overwhelmed with Facebook. It's too busy.

Anonymous said...

Coreen, When you're on one of our pages, you can look through our friends, and if you recognize someone you know from TM or wherever, it'll give you the option of adding them as a friend.

Anonymous said...

It's only as busy as you let it be. You skip most of it, and glance over to see just the things you want.

You mentioned Patsi's page Coreen. She is a good example of just how much you can do with it, if you so desire. I personally spend very little time there. But still, it is a tool. That's how Jan and Carol found each other after several years (I think).

Coreen said...

Chloe, but what you type...does it go to all
the friends pages as well? I think it does.

Carol I agree to much going on at once.

But it seems a good place to put pics of events for your friends/family to see.

Carol, I do not get to see your Saints' games.
I know they were leading at 1/2 time then apparently lost in OT with a field goal.

But remember the only thing that counts now is
the playoff games. Did not hear where your
Saints are going to be ranked in the playoffs
but they are in.

Anonymous said...

".does it go to all
the friends pages as well?"

Yes, but you can go to someones page and leave them a private note also. I think it's on the top left where you do that. Then only they get it.

Some people like Patsi, even talk about current events, etc., and share it with everyone.

Carol said...

We were 17-0 and then didn't score another point in the second half while Tampa Bay caught up and tied it. We lost in overtime.

Carol said...

Sometimes I wonder about these games. How much might be rigged. How much gambling may play a role?

Did anyone see that interview with that basketball ref who was betting on games. Some of the things he said made me wonder. Seems I remember him saying something about how they stretch out some of the series to run up the profits.

Coreen said...

Carol, Just saw the current playoff status,&
your Saints already qualify for a first round
bye & if the Vikings lose or tie the Chicago
Bears tomorrow, the Saints are the top seed in the NFC.

Carol said...

As long as they are playing like they are Coreen, none of it excites me. Now if you can tell me they all had the flu, I might feel better.

Coreen said...

Ok, they all had the flu....

Carol said...

Now I feel better.

Carol said...

Happy for your Jets. I think I would rather a team that started weak and then got better than the other way around. I could have handled a little struggle in the beginning.

Coreen said...

Then my work is done tonite....

Pretty sure if they wind up the top seed in the
NFC they get home field throughout the playoffs, am a bit rusty on the details, since
I am not a big football fan anymore, not enough
razzle/dazzle, but your Drew does throw the ball lots, which I like.....

Don, did I ever send you an invitation to post on our blog?? Did you ever send me your email?? I'm absent minded. I want your name up on our contributors. And BYW, where are you? Any of you thinking up a good New Year's post.

My three days back to work after 4 off should be fun, if all the calls I got over the last 4 days is any indication. I don't think it was as bad as previous Decembers. One December I got 14 hours of calls from the jail in Dec with each call being 10 or so minutes. I couldn't even pee without the phone ringing.

Well our new software system ought to be waiting for us. We were supposed, actually not me, to be inputting data three days before and three days after Christmas. That was a brilliant time since they were also forcing people to take any leftover time off before the end of the year. We are already at bare bone minimun staff.

And they don't arrest any healthy people anymore. They all come in with their suitcases full of drugs, or worse, with a list and no suitcase full of drugs, or worse, they are supposed to be on a suitcase full but don't know what the drugs are, or worse, they are half dead because they needed a suitcase full. By the end of the day, I need a suitcase full of drugs.

Carol's right Don. We miss you?

Solar, Can you send Don's email address to Carol again, just in case?
