A couple of weeks ago Jan mentioned that she gets scared when watching a movie even if she has seen it before. There is a reason for this. There were group studies that tested several people when watching something scary. They all knew what was going to happen; but were scared any way..when they were attached to wires, that scanned their brain...the brain re-acted in that way in order to protect the organism, that part tell us to run for safety....evolution is still very strong in our subconscious..
WHAT ABOUT GHOST'S?? Where do ghosts come from?
AS MEDIEVAL CASTLE bedrooms go, this one looks the part. Disturbing Flemish tapestries share the walls with stern portraits. On close inspection, the ornate fireplace's iron firedogs turn out to have devils' heads. This place is supposedly haunted by the ghost of Tom Skelton, a 16th-century jester said to have committed murder. The malevolent face of "Tom Fool" stares from a dimly lit oil painting just outside the bedroom.

Find out what the Ghosts are doing here.!
The emotions of watching something regardless if you know the outcome before hand, are still the same, as if you were experience it for the first time, in most cases.
I haven't been keeping up with what science has come up with lately, but this reminds me to do just that..should be many interesting things to read..later
change things a little. new avatar.
Did you know that you can live your avatar?
Neat post Solar. I wish that guy would have seen a ghost. Probably didn't want to and you can turn off your perceptiveness if you want to. I think he was scared. He didn't even stay in the room alone.
I'm glad you changed your avatar Solar. I was worried that deer hanging on above you was going to fall on your head.
I know you were kiddin Ivy, so was I. We all are a little F when it comes to our animals and our wildlife. I've even given most of my resident wildlife names.
My hummers have finally all gone. Haven't seen hide nor feather of them in days. I hope that system in the Gulf doesn't interfer with their trip across it. I'm still going to keep one feeder up and fresh just in case.
Carol,
Chloe is off some where googing around with that McCain poster, Natasha is no where to be seen, Ivy's has been busy, so I had the time to do one.....
My new avatar is one of my favorites.!
No such thing as ghosts...not in this dimension..but there are many more dimensions that hardly anyone knows about..how many do you know that are here?..and how many are there for real?
Who U gonna call....
Jan,
I just remembered about that chocolate. The one that you should get is called 'Grandmother' has a pic of one on the box...or any is fine...just ask for Mexican Chocolate..very rich tasting.!
This was said to me; by Sea over at tm, and should be copied and said over here often, ok Chlo.!
Merci Monsieur de Soleil!
Leave it to you Solar, to give us something
to think about...that has no answer.
Ghosts, I love the idea of a ghost, but I have
no first hand knowledge to prove or disprove
their existence.
More to consider....Has the idea of ghosts
always been part of civilization...Pretty sure
that ghosts have been found in all cultures...
And why are ghosts for the most part described
similarly by all....
Nice castle, Solar. Have to catch up later...it's Monday evening, y'all know what that means.
Carol,
Missed you this a.m., I see your guys are still
'undefeated', nice going, half way through the
season...wasn't shown here at all, pretty sure
they gave you another scare though.
Coreen,
I have an answer for you...but will wait for a little while...lets see what comes out of it.
The answer is in u post.HA!
Hey where did everyone go?
I didn't mean it: Ok there are ghost, they exist.
Yes Coreen, my Saints gave me quite a scare yesterday. I couldn't even watch some of it, I had to go walk around. It's usually the ones you don't expect to that beat ya. The next two games are teams who haven't won many games. They'll probably be two of the toughest games.
I was thinking that maybe the Saints were doing something I used to do when I'd go whitewater canoeing. When the rapids weren't too difficult, I'd take them standing up, just to make it more of a challenge. Maybe the Saints like to get behind just to make it a more exciting game.
His name is Casper, and he aint friendly,, hes just a little......is all.!
Chloe, are you and Emma back to normal, well at least as normal as you ever were?
You haven't explained those orbs yet Solar.
" Chloe, are you and Emma back to normal, well at least as normal as you ever were?"
You know-little innocent questions like that is how I get in trouble. I don't see anything wrong with it..so that makes two of Sally..are u normal???
Carol,
I can't explain those orbs any further than I have..im going to take another look at them and ponder, and ponder about them.
Solar, Beautiful picture and great, thought provoking post.
Because I thought that fear is partly learned, I wanted to find a little more information about it. This article seems to go through it very well, step by step, and does include what you said about evolution. I'm a little 'clearer' now. This is a long paragraph (from a very long one page article) that I think says what you are talking about, talking about the part of the brain where fear is stored.:
Emotions and the Brain: Fear
"Because the fear response can play a direct role in life-and-death struggles, it's not surprising to find that the brain contains elaborate machinery dedicated to its routines. The fact that the amygdala's basic architecture reappears in so many species is testimony to its evolutionary importance: Natural selection generally doesn't tinker with components that have proved essential to basic survival. Of course, the persistence of the low road in a world where predators are largely nonexistent may no longer be adaptive, but that's the trade-off of human culture. Evolution made our brains so smart that we ended up building environments that made some of our mental resources obsolete. No matter how calculating and erudite the neocortex becomes, it can't simply switch off the amygdala. In that sense, you can see the battles between these different regions as a re-enactment of Freud's clash between man's civilized superego and his primal id.
There is great elegance in the way this system has evolved, with its complex mix of instinct and learning. Like all emotions, the fear circuitry steers the organism toward desirable states— away from predators or other threats— without knowing that much in advance about the world that the organism will actually inhabit. We are not slaves to our emotions, but they are hardly at our beck and call either. They propel us in directions that our rational minds don't always understand— fear most of all. The amygdala, like the heart in Pascal's famous phrase, has reasons of which reason knows nothing." http://discovermagazine.com/2003/mar/cover
I am watching Entertainment tonight. They were talking about Levi Johnson, Sarah Palin's nightmare. He is looking for a new house. Exactly what does he do that he can afford a $400,000+ home at his young age. Is he getting paid a fortune to torment Sarah and how long will that last?
Sorry it took me so long to get here and then get (mostly) caught up.
Carol, Emma is better, but a little fussy tonight. She was overly tired and is down for the night early.
I used to watch Entertainment Tonight all the time. Back when John Tesh was on it. Had to go to there site just now to see if Mary Hart was still there, and sure enough. Until not to long ago, I couldn't get enough of the entertainment news. I even read Page Six.
Chloe, I guess that is why I'm always coming up with stuff to be scared by. I certainly wouldn't want my Amy to feel unnecessary.
Carol, Amy?
.. is she one of your guardian angels?
My nickname for amygdala. Think I'm going to try to type that over and over.
Chloe, you were just talking about her.
You might call her one of my guardian angels.
"Sally..are u normal???"
Ha! I missed that post.
The answer is probably no. But then it depends on who you ask.
My daughter is named Amy. I don't know if I ever mentioned that she is adopted. Amy Marie.
... just one more thing that went over my head Carol.
It was your article Chloe.
Amy Marie is a pretty name. She's little Emma's mom?
Chloe,
I knew that if you went to that site you would copy exactly that part...It is amazing what we are finding out about our brains..im still looking for mine...but getting close...glad that you both are getting better...
Carol, I know that now. I just didn't know at first what you were talking about when you abbreviated it. So when you said it, I immediately was stuck on the name, and not looking for any other meaning.
What's page six, Chloe?
You had me laughing so hard I got a headache.
Oh, and I was laughing at myself.
Ya know that "I"s never laugh at anyone else.
Carol, yes that's little Emma's mom.
Solar, You know me too well.
You know, I'm much more interested in what we do with our brains, than I am about the evolutionary part of them. I think you enjoy the science, and I focus on the psychology part of it. I know psychology is 'supposed' to be a science, but I don't usually see it that way.
As you know I see most things as learned. But that article did a good job of intertwining the two. (I really didn't think that intertwining was a word, but it didn't turn red, so I guess it is.)
Chloe,
I went back and read your post:
"We are not slaves to our emotions, but they are hardly at our beck and call either. They propel us in directions that our rational minds don't always understand— fear most of all. The amygdala, like the heart in Pascal's famous phrase, has reasons of which reason knows nothing."
That is from a different source..but is saying the same thing ..essentially
Carol, I'm so glad that you've been laughing so much lately. I have to. I think it's helped me tremendously hanging out here.
Carol, Even when I'm laughing at others, I really am laughing 'with' them. I know that sounds dorky, but it's me putting myself in their place. Sometimes people misunderstand that.
Page Six
"That is from a different source..but is saying the same thing ..essentially"
Solar, That's why I linked it. I agree. When I was young, in my 20s, I remember saying to others, that I felt like my emotions controlled me, instead of me controlling them. That, I think, led me on a life long struggle to try to understand the mind so well. And I think I have Solar. Obviously, not everything, but a good general idea.
I'm not talking about the science of the mind though. You understand that 'much' better than I do, because you're open to it. Carol is completely right about 'perception' and being open to what's right in front of us. We look for things that fit into our established belief system.
Chloe,
The reason that I did that post, a little is cos of our past talks about free choice...I do believe in it like you do..but know that some of the things we do........are sorta steered; or better yet we are steered toward them..and don't know that our brain,,which is different than our mind..guide us in that direction...
Solar, Your writing has been absolutely magnificent.
Solar, I appreciate that you've taken 'free choice' into consideration. I'll tell you right now that I 'have' to believe in it. Without it, life would be meaningless to me. I could never believe in myself, if at some point I didn't 'decide' to believe in free choice and the importance of the individual. I didn't realize how much I believed in it, until I started blogging at Craigs. I wrote once that I don't always know what I'm going to say, until I'm finished writing it.
You mean for a beginner.!
"I do believe in it like you do..but know that some of the things we do........are sorta steered; or better yet we are steered toward them."
I completely agree with that paragraph. It's just that a lot of it is guess work. I don't think some things are meant to be 'proven', just believed. Which, of course, is part of the definition of what 'faith' is.
No!!! I don't mean for a beginner. I mean exactly what I said. I always do Solar. It's other people who add to and change the meaning.
Carol, Did you check out Page Six?
I think that the Ghost around here, is Mary the friendly ghost.
I hope Mary, the friendly ghost, talks to us. I betcha she has plenty to add to this conversation.
I did check out Page Six. Interesting.
Only for a junky, Carol. It's no more than a gossip column.
DWTS, the dancing show is getting ready to do their last dance, I think it's their last dance. It's a Latin dance. I love Latin dancing. Mary's a big fan of DWTS. She got me watching it.
Mary, IM latin; wanna dance a little...
Carol, I've got a 48" Tv on the wall to my left, and a directtv box and I never turn it on. If I knew what channel that dance was on, I'd watch it. But by the time I figure it out, it'll be over.
Carol, I've got it on! Channel 13
Solar, Are you watching?
It's amazing to see how far these people have come from the beginning.
No, I don't have tv on. I don't watch it too much since I lost my satellite channels.
That last guy has come a long, long way.
I saw the whole dance, then as they were bowing, my kitten (the black and white that I now call Tazzy, instead of Fiddler) was chasing an insect of some type, jumped on the box, and pulled out my cable to it with his claw.
At least I saw the dance though. It was great.
I think of Solar when they do their Latin dances. He has that dance avatar.
Well, now that I've talked your ear off, I'm outta here. Thanks, and see you tomorrow.
Yeah Carol, Solar would have enjoyed that one. It was on local TV Solar.
Sleep well.!
Nite Chloe. This woman is Sharon and Ozzie Osborn's kid.
What was always remarkable about DWTS....the women are dancing on high heels, and backwards...no small accomplishment.
I'd need an ambulance after just one of those moves Coreen. In fact, it even hurts just to watch. Makes my Amy even shutter.
I danced with Carol once...remember Carol...by the light of the moon..and yelled at it.!
See above to understand who Amy is.
I'll never forget Solar.
We were good. A few beavs have been asking for an encore.
Hey Guys, I'll try this one more time. I keep losing my post. I've been lurking here all nite. I do love DWTS. I took jazz dancing for 18 yrs. I started when I was 32 y/o and had to quit when I was 50 because of my job. I loved it. I've always wanted to take ballroom dancing.
Yeah, they threw us a little bone the other day, that u found...
That outfit doesn't do anything for Donnie.
They would have to carry me out.
There was a time, I wore some drop-dead gorgeous high heels, high heel boots, everywhere, all day.
I can't even stand in them anymore. Agony, I now wear my Birkenstocks, all the time, sandals & clogs.
Good one Solar, your catching on.
Last time I thought I needed some heels, thank God, they had mold on them.
Mary, don't refresh, it erases your post..I lost a few good ones..
What I do now, when I don't want to lose one; is to write it on word pad, and then paste it..little more work..but less annoying
Here's my pick, Derek & Joanna (whoever she is)
Derek is very creative, his sister also a pro
won it in the past, but her name escapes me.
"There was a time, I wore some drop-dead gorgeous high heels, high heel boots, everywhere, all day."
Pic, please.,!!
Coreen, Joann is a swimsuit model.
We're all over those drop dead gorgeous shoes days, Solar.
Thanks Mary, this season I did not know who most of the celebs were.
And I wouldn't mind learning ballroom dancing,
but don't have a partner...
Would you believe there is an Arthur Murray
dance studio across the street from my office
(been there for years)
Solar,
I could take a pic of some of those fancy footwear for you!!!!!
U know what I meant...the size seven's wearing them.!
Sorry, they were a size 5, now a 6....
got it. a little more info..
Also, Dereks sister is Julianne Hough. She left to be a country singer.
Coreen, I don't have a partner either. I think the university here has some leisure learning classes in country dancing.
Solar might hire out for the right price.
Might be a nice filler job until economy picks up.
Thanks for the followup on Derek's sister.
I'd have to pass on the country dancing...I know country music is big with lots of people,
but I am absolutely not one of them.
And I better drop out tonite, still working on
the angel afghan, sweater is finished, but I
need to get buttons for it.
Carol, I will take a pic of them when done, before I give them away.
So good nite all.
I meant ballroom dancing. I was still thinking of country singing.
Please do take some pics Coreen and nite nite.
nite Coreen, nite all.
Hope you had a good nite with the girls Ivy.
Small group tonight, half stayed home sick. Or maybe they were out stocking up on breadmilkandtoiletpaper. lol
Hi and Bye all, I had a long day - so didn't check in until now. I have enjoyed reading your comments. I worked on the baby quilt tonight and watched DWTS too. My pick is Mya but Derek is my favorite pro. He is an amazing choreographer and dancer. His and Joanna's futuristic dance was amazing.
I finished the book by Dan Browne "The Lost Symbol" liked it a lot. Pretty exciting. He sounds too religious in the end for my taste though. Its all about the Masons. My grandfather was a Mason and so was John's dad. But I know very little about this group - so found this part of the book interesting. The story takes place in Wash D.C. and has much to do with the various monuments.
Well I will say good night and catch up later.
Solar, I can't watch really exciting or scary movies - if I do, I need to be up moving around otherwise my heart starts beating so hard and fast - and that scares me more. I am just a wimp.
Solar, the picture of the castle is great.
Solar, and thank you for telling me what to look for in the chocolate. We have plenty of Mexican markets here.
I hope ya'll don't get aggravated when I seem to make light of the serious, intellectual conversations ya'll are having here. I don't mean to. I just need to find something to laugh at even if it is just at me. It's getting harder to find anything to laugh at or with at work these days. Too many really sick people.
I saw them talking about arresting people that don't have insurance on TM the other day. They already do but it wasn't because they didn't have insurance. Please let's not find any other reasons to arrest people even though I do agree that everyone should contribute, if they can, to the cost of healthcare.
It is amazing how many people come to jail looking awful. They have lots of serious medical problems but haven't taken care of themselves in years. Oh and they were just on their way to get everything fixed when they, unfortunately, got arrested. Now it is an emergency, hurry. If I had a nickel for everytime I heard that.
We get them cleaned up and looking good, just to have them go back out and get all messed up again. Then their back for another round. We're kind of like a paint and body shop, bring in your wrecks and we fix um.
Ivy, stay tucked in today. Looks like you're gonna get a lot of rain today before it clears out. Hope you didn't forget the toilet paper.
Oh, tomorrow is Veteran's Day. I get the day off. I want to thank all our veterans for their sacrifice to help protect the rest of us from harm. I think that is you Solar. Thank you Solar. And thanks to anyone else who lurks here who served our country. We do appreciate it.
Solar,
I hope we get to continue our conversation in the future. You didn't really say as much as you have to say, I don't think.
I think I should readup a little on Blaise Pascal. I betcha you know plenty about him.
There's a couple versions, but I like this one...
"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass… It’s about learning to dance in the rain!"
Dancing in the Rain
Chloe,
Im coming back from just losing yet another post. I should have done what I told Mary not to do..I refreshed and lost it.
What i wanted to say is that; altho it has been a long time since I have read Pascal...I do like him, and his way of putting things in a way that is understandable.
The Philosopher that I like and want to understand the most in Baruch Spinoza. He lived at the same time that A. Einstien lied, and A. E. agreed with him, and associated his remarks with Spinoza's outlook of life.
The thing is that I have read what he say's often, b/c he combines philosophy with the brain, and the mind..even with biology....the Neurologist Antonio Damasio, also admires Spinoza very much, and say's that what he visioned is all very relevant today..combine these two..and it is a slow understanding of it all...the mappings of the brain, which grew the body, can't be separated; and very, very difficult..but yes I do like Pascal and have said many of the things that he has said...he likes the synergy aspect..doesn't use the word..but its there...something like " If there is a God, he is there for all of his people, not just for some of them. he would not have blinded some while opening the eyes of others..how would he choose" that is a very, very, lose quote but I hope that he came across in it..
I find less, and less time for books, like these, with the internet..I also have visited that Discover one that you posted..there are a few more, and then there is the political stuff..never enough time...
Ivy'
"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass… It’s about learning to dance in the rain!"
That's my favorite thing that you have posted...thanks
Hi folks, just checking in. Really busy with students this week.
I don't know if you have been watching national news about what has happened in college level women's soccer. As a member of the Univ of NM community, I am very distressed about the UNM women's soccer team member who assaulted the other soccer players from Utah a couple of weeks ago. Most people I talk to here are very disappointed in her behavior. This incident came after a UNM football coach punched another coach. The behavior by the coach has literally been swept under the rug by our administration - and then the soccer player assaulted members of the opposing team. Makes me wonder if the soccer player is imitating the behavior of the coach. I wrote the UNM President a few weeks ago and expressed my concern that the coach was modeling behaviors for our young people in the university and the community. It seems that, in fact, this is what happened.
Any bets on who might get kicked off DWTS's tonight. Mary has said she likes Joanna and Derek. I like Mya (don't know her partner's name). Anyone else have a favorite?
Is Demetrie Mya's partner.
Jan, Coreen said Derek and Joann were her favorites. I really like Mya. I also really like Kelly Osbourne, not that she is the best but she has such a cute personality and has really tried hard. I think Mya has taken some kind of dancing before.
Joann may have had dancing before, also. Even if it wasn't ballroom dancing, any kind of dancing lessons teach you a certain amt. of grace and techniques that the others don't have.
Well, even though I like little Kelly, she's not the best. And then Donnie is the second from the bottom. The other three are good with Aaron making the most improvement with his dancing.
I doubt Donnie will get the axe. Probably some kind of show biz politics involved there. And from what I have seen from previous talent shows this year, it ain't about who has the most talent anyway, it's about popularity.
And thank God there's not a chicken catcher in this bunch! Huh Mary.
Put the dogs out Ivy. I think you have a momentary break in the rain, but it ain't over yet. Keep dancing.
I see on our little map that we had someone who dropped in from Kileen, Tx. All of us here at the Swamp send our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, colleages of those brave men and women who lost their lives or were injured at the Base in your community.
Ivy, I would love to dance in warm rain.
I think Kelly Osbourne is so cute and has a great personality - but she is not the best dancer. I agree though that the winner is often the one with the best fan following - so sometimes it is personality or how they come across on TV.
I think Aaron has made the most progress, but for some reason he sort of "turns me off" - again its a personality thing.
It is going to be interesting because there are so many factors to consider. I do love to watch the dancing though. My favorite dances are the latin dances.
Chloe, I have a granddaughter, Amie. She is expecting a baby and they are going to name her Abigail.
Carol, what do mean there is not a chicken catcher in this group???
Ivy, are you getting any rain from Ida?
Coreen, I do like country music. Years ago I lived in Montana and worked for the State dept of health and drove all over the state. That was in the late 1970's and my car did not have a tape player and the only stations I could get on the radio played country music - after a few months of that I liked country music. Willie Nelson is my favorite male singer. I especially like Celine Dion and Sarah McLaughlin. My favorite music era is the '70's.
Jan, I like country music also and I love to dance to it. What Carol meant by the "chicken catcher" is on Americas Gor Talent this past season, this guy who was a chicken catcher won. He sang OK but by far, he wasn't the best talent. He only won because of his sob story.
Gor=Got
Jan, I'm proud of you for expressing your feeling about that coach to the U President.
Country music is great music if you need an accompaniment to a bad case of the blues. Gets those tears a flowing.
Country music, maybe it is an east coast thing,
maybe we are elitists, but that is one format that can not be maintained in NY radio. It has always been unsuccessful when tried.
DWTS, if there are still 3 semi-finalists, I still like Derek & his partner, Aaron, & tossup
between Mya & Donnie Osmond. My pick to get the boot so to speak is The Osmond daughter,
but then what do I know...
Jan,
Your strong ethical code shines through in
your comments about your school's female soccer
player & the incident involving a coach.
Being pretty cynical, my first impression of the soccer clip was not much new (other than it
was a woman, not a man behaving badly & I suspect that it would not have gotten any TV
exposure, if it had been a boy), but since school sports programs, college in particular, are such big business, winning is the only thing that seems to matter, the more winning, the more $$$, so don't know that they are teaching sportsmanship.
Jan, there is something about Aaron that turns most people off even the judges. That makes the high scores he's gotten recently even more significant. I'll have to admit he grates on my nerves also. I think he has a low self-esteem and he projects that.
Well, Marie, on ET, just said she thought Aaron would get the boot tonight on DWTS. I think that also. He almost got it last week. I don't know what it is but he grates on my nerves. He tied Donnie at the bottom last night.
I once made a C&W CD with different songs by different artists that represented my feeling throughout a loss of a relationship. It included all the stages of grief, ending with resolution. I think the last song on the CD was "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack.
It was a neat CD, had a lot of really sad but pretty songs. I wish I still had that CD but I lost it also. LOL.
Jan,
Yes, we are getting rain from Ida. The wind and rain reopened a leak at the front of the house that first appeared five years ago during Hurricane Ivan. It's only during "name storms" that we get this leak, it must be peculiar to the wind direction of tropical storm rains.
Carol,
There was a lot of toweling off and blow-drying of dogs throughout the day. They wore their little raincoats, but those are not much help when it rains sideways.
Chloe,
That was the cutest YouTube of the little girl "dancing" in the rain. Oh, to have the unselfconsciousness of the young!
Ivy, Maggie won't let me put on her slicker suit with the little hood. Every time I try, there's a fight and she wins. I got it on her once but the hood went down over her eyes and she was running into things. That was the last time she had it on.
Solar,
Did you see there's a story floating on the ether-net that the Vatican is searching for extraterrestrial life? Do a google and you'll find several articles. There's always hope for redemption, no matter how abysmal one's history...
"Four hundred years after it locked up Galileo for challenging the view that the Earth was the center of the universe, the Vatican has called in experts to study the possibility of extraterrestrial alien life and its implication for the Catholic Church."
Oh geez, their going to try to convert the ETs too?
Carol,
I sympathize with your dog-coat wars. It came down to no hoods, nothing over the head, and nothing that requires poking feet through leg-holes. I had to search high and low before I found doggy jackets that are basically like little horse blankets thrown over the back and Velcro'd across the belly.
Carol,
Maybe the conversions will go the other way...?
Beam um up Scotty
"There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who see the rain as wet and dreary, and those who see the rain as an excuse to wear funny boots."
I like that one Ivy.
You crack me up, Ivy. I love your optimism. I've been looking for a coat for Petey that doesn't have armholes but I can't find any. Even the velcro pulls his hair and then he gets PO'd.
Now it's down to the last two. Will personality or talent win out?? I guess we can't say since Jan won't know until an hour later.
Ivy,
Galileo, was just cleared of any wrong doing, and it took them 400 years to admit that he was right..
I don't believe for one second that there isn't another motive behind all of this...as soon as they find some form of life..the Vatican will claim that it is Abraham that traveled to spread good cheer, and split his sons ....
Ivy,
I'm truly sorry if I offend you about any of my rantings about religion, ...I don't mean too, b/c you are a very special lady.!! I think that the way that you handle this subject; it's admirable..you take in the consideration of what science has to offer ;at the same time that you ponder Religion.
Like I said: I think that Science and Religion could both be taught..the golden rules are there for us all..the Vatican doesn't think so, or any of the other organization's.
Back to the Vatican's interest; in finding other possible converts..well, it is just a ploy to have their own scientist come up with their own version of what could be found...they do this on a regular basis..most scientist's that they , do not have the credentials to give valid conclusions imo...Every day they are presented with more, and more proof of the origins of our Universe, and ourselves. It is not going to get any easier for them to deny what 90% of the true scientist find to be true...
No problem, Solar. The Universe continues...more will be revealed...
Ida has left the building. At least the breadmilkandtoiletpaper held out.
Carol,
What was it you knew?
That personality would win over talent.
Mary,
I hope by "crack you up" you don't mean I'm driving you crazy? Just kidding. Always glad when you take time to post to us, we know it's not your funnest thing, pecking away at the keyboard. Sometimes I find it tedious too, mainly because I'm a slow typer.
Actually, today, I figured a way to attach my laptop to my elliptical machine. Theoretically that means I can follow the blogs and exercise at the same time. We'll have to see how that works since I have a hard enough time typing while just sitting.
So, Carol, you'll be around a bit tomorrow?
Do you have any idea how much rain you got Ivy? Do you have a rain gauge? I love having a rain gauge. Like having that data.
I have the day off tomorrow. I needed it. I might have gone nuts without it this week. I'm not sure why things have been so crazy at work. I hope it is just that little cycle we see.
I think I need to go to the grocery store. I ran out of stuff early this week. I think I'm eating too much.
That blogging while exercising sounds hazzardous to something or someone.
Yup, Aaron was kicked off. Personality over talent, but he was my choice too go too.
Cuz you didn't like him Jan. I didn't either but he had more talent that Kelly. And talent is what we are supposed to be judging, not who we like better. I think that mean judge in the middle was really dissappointed that Aaron got canned.
Carol, I need your professional nurse practitioner opinion. I was bringing a cardboard box of stuff home from work Sunday night. I think I got a spider bite on my thumb - it hurt for a couple of minutes - it got really blue really quick. I thought I had busted a little blood vessel at first. My whole thumb looks bruised. It has not spread beyond my thumb but even the front of my thumb looks bruised. Should I try to see my doc?
Just bruised Jan? Not cold and necrotic? All spiders do have some venom. The most dangerous is that Brown Recluse and there is no doubt when they get ya. The area around the bite become necrotic and sloughs off, leaving a crater. Usually won't heal without some skin grafting.
Is the circulation OK and good skin temp, good sensation?
This is three days later. Most serious stuff besides some infection, like staph, will have already happened. Those staph infections are usually hot, inflammed,. red and painful
Could be that it did break a blood vessel and it is bruised. If you are worried see your medical practitioner. My disclaimer.
I did it a little today, but I didn't try to type, just read.
Didn't get dizzy Ivy? It is hard to move up and down and focus on one area. It is for me. I'm afraid you might break something if you try to type. How's your bone density?
Solar,
I must have had an unusual group of nuns teaching me because we learned that science and religion are compatible, and that even abortion could be acceptable up to a certain number of weeks. Bear Woman and I were parochial schoolmates from third grade on. She grew up to be a scientist and a naturalist. The nuns were also quick to condemn the church's past injustices and excesses. I knew of no "priestly violations" of schoolchildren, but then I could also have been living in my introverted bubble. I did see nuns get carried away with disciplinary methods for which one of them earned a punch in the gut by my little sister. When I saw hypocrisy, I was quick to point it out to the powers that be. I saw my own parents argue with priests, and act freely to pick and choose the doctrines that suited them, ignoring those that didn't. I developed my own moral compass early on. Where it intersected with church teachings, all the better. When it didn't, I went my own way. Take the good and focus on that; leave the rest in the dustbin of history, I say. (Not that I don't like history).
How's your laptop's bone density?
I keep hearing loud noises at the other end of the camp. I hope nothing is dropping off another bone.
Carol,
I take Bone-evil (Boneva). My bone density is 1 on the dexascan, does that make sense? I forget the scale. The elliptical helps me with balance, as does yoga.
This may sound nuts but I like the concept of a creative intelligence in the universe. It's sort of a compromise for me.
That was Sally Field making a house call to deliver your Bone-evil Rx.
Not really Ivy since I don't get to deal with them often where I work. I would have to look at the tool and references.
Me too, I'll have to do that tomorrow since it's late. Whatever number it was, it was an improvement since the previous test, and the monthly Bone-evil pill, so they said keep on keepin' on.
I haven't even had a bone density in years and I'm on that Forteo. Those injections I'm supposed to take every day but that I forget to give myself except for a couple of times a week. I guess they determined my need from my history of three vertebral compression fractures and 4 pelvic fractures in five years. Also determined I'm a pretty big klutz.
Catch you tomorrow. Have the coffee pot on.
But I did take a bad step off one of the many steps around here about a week ago, spun my ankle around a couple of times and it's just fine. Had no pain, no swelling. Something is working.
We got 178 here, so we have to think about a roll-over...
Nite.
Make that 180 + 1
Maybe that was the message with that broken bone left here. Take my dang Forteo.
Glad you solved that mystery Ivy.
Mornin', Carol. It all makes sense now.
Morning Ivy. I see in the list of posts that Coreen has one in a holding pattern waiting for take off.
Coreen, the runway is clear. Take off sista.
Last weekend I bought some pecans in the shell for my squirrels. I thought it would be a treat for them. I paid more for the pecans in the shell than I would have paid for the shelled ones but I know their little teeth need the work out.
I set several out and nada. They are still sitting there. They do have lots of other stuff, like acorns and these nuts that fall off the cypress trees to eat. Maybe they don't even know what a pecan is.
Chloe, where were you last night?? What ya doing? Everything OK? We missed you last night.
