Pumpkins galore in CT
It is pumpkin and apple cider time in CT. There are two roadside country stores that
offer both here in Easton. This is Silverman's, which has its own apple orchard on the fill
where people take a ride up the hill & can pick their own apples. Cider is made on site
& sold in the store. On weekends in October, the road is backed up with cars, many
from NY, so many that there is police to direct the traffic.

Coreen, Absolutely 'beautiful' pictures. I don't know when you took them, but a gorgeous, crytal clear day and the bluest sky, and your reservoir is the same: gorgeous, crystal clear and blue.
Thanks so much for sharing Connecticut with us.
Now you've really got me in the mood for Halloween ( and the pumpin pie that follows on Thanksgiving). Hope you keep the pics coming Coreen. Great post!!
I just finished enlarging all your pictures Coreen, and they're even more beautiful that way. Good photography and a nice camera. Keep us posted on the seasons - I know they're much more distinctive there than they are in Houston.
Hi Chloe, thanks for the compliments & encouragement. If not for your help, I wouldn't have figured out how to do this.
I am accumulating pics that I will gladly share
if you guys are interested. Carol has me carrying my camera with me every day!
This time of year the trees keep changing daily, I am scouting them as I drive & hope to get some shots before they fall off or I forget where I saw them.
Is Halloween big in Houston? It is here, but not so much in Easton, since we have no streetlights, no sidewalks.
Lately though more & more houses are decorated for Halloween around here. My best friend who
lives in Trumbull, next town over, gets about
50-100 kids every year & she has lived in her
house for 20+ years. We think they come from
other areas, since there are just not that many
kids in her neighborhood.
Hi Coreen, Yes Halloween is big in Houston - everything is big here - what you've heard is true. Seriously, they love holidays (all of them) more than any place I've ever been.
Yes! Keep those pictures coming. It's great to hear you're carrying your camera with you - I'm hoping I'll be inspired.
Jack linked this over on facebook, and I think Carol, the fisherwoman, may get a kick out of it.
Forget the balloon chase: 4-year-old catches 45-pound catfish
Really wonderful, Coreen. Puts me in mind of "Stars Hollow," the fictional town in "The Gilmore Girls." My daughter and I watched that show together every afternoon after school.
Stars Hollow, CT
Two Junes ago, Hubs and I visited NYC and Connecticut. We stayed in Ridgefield, CT. When I saw that town, I fell head-over-heels in love with it. It just felt like a place I belonged. Coreen, if your town is near it, or like it, you live in a special place.
Pictures of Ridgefield
Coreen,
I see on the google map, they're really close...seventeen miles. I love the Helen Keller connection too. I hope to visit one day. I'm sure we'll get up that way again. Hubs' brother lives in NYC.
I "collect" Keller quotes. Here is one that came my way yesterday.
"I thank God for my handicaps, for, through them, I have found myself, my work, and my God."
-- Helen Keller
I see we get a few avatars appearing near the top of a new thread, and then they "peter out." I wonder what is going on.
Coreen, really gorgeous pictures. Chloe is right, when you enlarge them there is so much detail. Makes me want to take a hay ride or at least carve a pumpkin. Sure puts me in the mood for the season. I have never visited Connecticut - makes me want to visit.
I have driven across the U.S. and truthfully
after seeing some of it, I am always happy
that little Connecticut is my home. It is a
very small state in comparison to some of yours, and you can drive it completely in
maybe an 1-1/2 to 2 hours at most.
I live in Fairfield County, which is like a
suburb of NY, with some large cities, and
lots of small towns (like mine) CT actually has
169 towns/cities. Maybe 6-7 cities (100,000) & the rest small town/rural/suburban areas.
Ivy, Ridgefield is only about 20 miles west, if
you were to take the road that the Aspetuck
Orchard is on it will lead you to Bethel & then
skirt Danbury & into Ridgefield. It is very New Englandy as well, but with more of a town
image, with a small main street area.
Ridgefield is 3 times as big as Easton (pop. 8,000). We have no stores, no Main Street, no
walmart types, no banks, etc. You must go to
a neighboring town to shop for anything.
We do have a couple of gas stations & country
stores & a post office at the general store, &
some churches, schools, no commercial, no retail, in essence Easton is a throw back to old farmers--CT Yankees. But as many wealthy
transplants have moved in to the town, big houses, big taxes for schools, juxtaposed against the old yankee farmer family types that
really could not afford to move to town today.
My office is in the next town, Trumbull, since we have no office buildings either.
Back to work for now.
WOW Coreen, you earned your owl feather today! I know your teacher, Chloe, is proud of you, as are the rest of us. What a surprise. Great pics. I need to get a pumpkin and carve it. Now I'm really in the mood for Fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving.
Gotta go catch up on afternoon chores and then will come back and study comments and respond. Can't wait.
I'm just popping in before my chores too, and they'll probably take me a couple of hours, unfortunately.
Carol, I wasn't a teacher to Coreen, I just told her where to go on the page and then to follow the instructions and experiment around. Apparently, she's a quick learner, because I was happily surprised this morning when she not only posted, but downloaded all those beautiful pictures she's recently taken too.
I'm looking forward to getting back too, so I'd better get to work if I hope to finish.
Coreen, still in awe of your post today.
Always wanted to visit up in the northeast. I've been up that way twice for educational conferences but never had time to see the sights. It's still on my bucket list.
Ivy, I really liked the rest of the poem you put up also. The first part of that poem was even more significant in light of our discussion.
Synchronicity is at it again. Don’t ya just love it? The book being open to that poem and I assume the Big Guy you mentioned wasn't your husband, was it? Very interesting!
Chloe, liked the story about the little boy with the big catfish. I wonder how he ever got that fish in. Someone had to help him. I caught a 5 lb. redfish once and I didn't think I would ever get it reeled in. I thought I had a whale and was surprised when it was only 5 lbs.
Just a quick hello, just about time for game
4.
Glad you enjoyed a lit bit of Connecticut, will
gladly add more in the future so long as it is
not an imposition.
Maybe catch you all later, time for baseball.
Coreen, so sorry about your loss last night. Must have been tough. Hope they do good tonight.
Carol,
I am given to hyperbole, as Hubs is wont to point out, but such was not the case with the "pome." You asked for a poem, I lifted the book, and open it fell. So that synchronistic poem was your special delivery from The Big Dude, not mine. lol
I don't think God minds what we call Him, as long as we don't call Him in vain. I am of the belief that "God" is a title, not a name. Whatever His Name is, is known only to Himself. So it doesn't matter what name we use. Big Dude works for me.
Carol,
Do you want to know what poem (prayer) was on the facing page? It was the Serenity Prayer.
Here is the name and author of the book for any interested.
"Bedside Prayers" by June Cotner
You can find her by searching Amazon. She has numerous titles published, and it looks like a new one came out this summer. I might have to add to my collection. lol
Jan, I don’t think I would enjoy teaching as much with all the new technology. I really loved getting up in front of a class. I tried to make my lectures interesting and humorous. All my moonlighting jobs did give me some good material. Had good examples for just about every subject area.
I did have a little problem with my tendency to talk too fast. I would have about 3 hours of material prepared and when I finished, I’d look at the clock and I had covered it in about 30 minutes. Should have been tipped off when I saw the sweat dripping off my students' brows and smoke coming from their pencils. Usually they just brought a tape recorder. Then they could just sit back and listen.
Once I was getting these strange phone calls at home at night. No one would talk but I could hear a faint noise in the background, like a TV or radio. It happened off and on for a while. One day I handed the phone to a friend who was over and asked if she could tell what that sound was in the background. She said, Carol, that is you and your talking about the heart. Someone was tormenting me with my own lectures. Weird.
Ivy, the Serenity Prayer is my very, very favorite. And I like Big Dude. She can handle it.
God, Grant me the Serenity
to accept the people I cannot change,
Courage to change the one I can, and the Wisdom to know it's me.
Love that one too.
Those deer are tougher than we give them credit for. I once was driving on the off ramp of an expressway, and from a side view..peripheral vision; I have great peripheral vision.
I saw a deer running out of the forest..and about to hit my trk..
I put both hands on the wheel and kept the truck in my lane, as the hit me at a good clip: When it did, it gave me a good whack and sent itself flying in the air, and when it landed ( on all fours) it shook its self, and looked at me, right in the eye,,and took of. I think that he flipped me the finger...
I laughed about it for miles, until I got out and checked out the dent that he put on my fender...then I flipped him the finger...hahah
Another time that when I was base in Camp Lejune N.C. a friend that I was with, got a flat tire, and we had to walk for a few miles...we were both a little high, so were a little loud when we surprised a deer, my dummy friend went up to the deer, and to my surprise it reared up and socked him one on the head. opened him up pretty good. He would not got to see the Doc until the next day...look my truck hit him in the head...like the deer in the post ahead...I think that we should train them...and send them against the Taliban...HA.!!!
Chlo,
Thanks for the shout out at TM,and here..I answered it...I said so there..so now big deal...Jamie is just positioning again..she has finally come around to a little of what we have been (her and me) arguing for a while now...she used to give me a lecture about the big corps, yes I do think that they should make a very good profit, they take the risks, invest time, and money...but not, as I used to tell her: 400 times that of the average worker...
Ivy, I think Big Dude is appreciative of what we're doing for Little Dudes, hummers, so sent a special poem as a thank you.
Life can give us a lot of big and little thank yous. Getting to meet and know you guys was a big thank you.
Who will be voted off tonight??? Snow board guy is my choice.
Natasha,
Nice post, and some very nice pics, just missing one or you.
There are some people that I know, that are country doctors: They had the choice of living in the Lincoln Park Neighborhood of Chicago, and making a lot of more money than they did when the chose to live in a little town in Indiana....
they have never regretted the choice....it looks like you did the same thing...very nice way to live.
Chloe,
After reading that story about the 4 year old and his catch of the 45 lb cat fish..the first thing that he did was to give it a hug...I was just going to give you one....
Hi Solman, welcome home! I bet that was scary getting hit by that deer.
One night I was driving home from work. I was moonlighting as the evening supervisor at a local hospital. Got off at midnight. It was so foggy I could hardly see anything past the hood of my truck.
I had this sudden strong feeling that a deer was going to run in front of my truck. I was going too fast for the low visibility conditions. As soon as the feeling hit me, I hit the breaks. Just as I did I saw a cow standing in the middle of the road. Just standing there chewing his cud. He looked me right in the eyes. Not a deer but close.
If I hadn't put on my brakes as soon as I had that feeling I would have been flush with steaks and ground beef. One or both of us wouldn't have made it.
I do have angels looking after me. That was not the first time I've had that kind of experience. I am attentive and react when I have those type feelings and it does serve me well.
"Someone was tormenting me with my own lectures. Weird"
Carol, You are soooo funny.
Ivy, I liked that last quote so much and it is so true. Hope you keep them coming.
Coreen, I wish you luck on your game tonight, let us know how it goes.
Jan, I hope you'll have more time with us soon.
and last, but not least: Solar, I have great peripheral vision too. Always have. I haven't seen your post at TM yet, but will take a look before I sign off. (I'm glad that deer was ok)
I enjoyed reading all the posts, but am way too tired to add anything tonight.
See y'all tomorrow.
Hi guys, can check in since Alex just hit a 2-run homer, its 5-0, top of the 5th.
We have lots of deer here & it is always an
argument in the towns whether to allow hunting
to thin the numbers. For the record, I am
anti-hunting. The other argument raised is
lyme disease. So far I have been fortunate,
not getting lyme disease, & while I have had
a couple of close calls on the town roads,
so far so good.
What's 'snow board guy'? I'm missing something.
Well, once again the voting TV audience doesn't have much of an eye for real talent.(Dancing with the Stars) Why do I waste my time on these dumb shows?
It's that Dancing with the Stars show, Coreen. First time I ever watched those shows. Maybe last time.
Solar, don't hug Chloe if you just finished hugging a catfish. They are very slimy.
I stopped watching that show, the dancing used to really be dancing, but it has evolved into
more spectacle then dancing. And for some
reason, I have no clue who these celebrities
are.
Oh, oh those pesky angels are coming back, scored 1 run, with 2 on & only 1 out.
Carol,
you know you are one of only 2 women I know
who actually can fish. I have a friend who
lives in Islamorada, FL, she not only fishes,
salt water fishing,
but runs a couple of fishing tournaments, for
tarpan, and some other type fish, pretty sure
its called a permit.
Carol,
That kid hugged that Cat, after he caught it,,I should be able to do the same no?
As far as hunting goes, I couldn't do it but I feel if those who do, do it for the meat and do it in a humane way, I can accept that. It does help keep the animal populations maintained. Better than having them starve to death.
Can't understand just killing an animal for pure sport or to hang the head on the wall.
Any other cat including Chloe, yes. A catfish, wouldn't recommend it.
I am anti-hunting because the weaponry used
to 'hunt' animals is so very advanced that
it is not really humane in any way.
And Solar, I'm waiting for you to give us a
pic of you, as well.
Coreen, I like to fish because it can take me away from reality and I'm out in nature. I'm in another world. As I've mentioned before, I've spent more time preparing for and thinking about fishing than I spent actually fishing.
It has only been recently that I've had everything come together to be able to do more actual fishing. I'm not a good fisherperson yet.
Carol, I have no doubt that you will become
a good fisherperson.
And since it is getting late here, I will say
good night.
Yeah Solar, send us your pic in your jammies with the footies in them. Keep that flap in the back closed.
No way, thats my best feature.!
Nite Coreen. It's past time for my bedtime ritual to begin. That takes almost an hour. Nite everyone.
Coreen, I enlarged the pics and was checking out the weeds in pic #5. I think we got the same weeds. I guess the same kind of weeds can grow just about anywhere. They are a hardy bunch and they can grow under any conditions. When the regular grass dies out, those weeds are thriving.
I've planted a many a garden and after a while, the weeds were the only thing that survived. Just call me a weed farmer. Too bad we haven't yet found much they are good for. Right now they are giving lots of people allergies. Dang those weeds.
And you guys up in the north seem to grow even bigger flowers. Your growing season may not be as long as ours is but you are compensated by having much bigger flowers. When I visited up in the PNW, I was so impressed by how big the flowers were. Our's are puny by comparison. I guess flowers just don't like this heat.
One of my favorite gardens, with big flowers, is Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia.
Click here for a virtual tour
Butchart
Gardens
Carol, enjoyed the virtual tour through Butchart Gardens. Lovely. I visited Vancouvar BC 30 years ago and thought it was the most beautiful area I had ever seen. Thanks for sharing this -brought back lovely memories.
Its a rainy wed morn here. Wed is recycle day in our "hood." Usually don't put out recyclables with the rain - so mine are adding up. 2 weeks ago wed it rained and last wed I was sick so my recyclables are taking over my garage. Guess I will go out and find recycle bins- seems a shame to use gasoline to do this.
This morn students and I are off to do H1N1 immun for little ones in some child dev centers. We have the nose-spray type - am wondering how the little ones will do with that-probably have to hold them.
Jan, It's good to hear that someone finally has the H1N1 immunization. Here, they keep saying they don't have them yet.
Good luck with those children today. Let us know how it goes.
Carol, I just finished going through that garden site you linked. Beautiful! Thanks.
Carol, You know there is another woman who enjoys fishing, that is very well known: Sarah Palin. I saw some pictures of her yesterday, doing just that, but now I can't find them. It was a slide show, and showed her and her husband fishing side by side.
This Amelia Earhart movie coming out this week looks really good:
Amelia Trailers & Video Clips
Chloe, I want to see that movie.
The nurs. students did great with the nasal sprays. They did good teaching with parents and teachers too - Proud of them. The children were 2-4 years old. They were so cute. We only had one who cried a lot. Most did little or no crying. We had little halloween stickers and they got to pick the one they liked. Some little boys put it on their foreheads.
I would see any movie with Hillary Swank. She is amazing.
Jan,
I also like H. S. She is a very natural person, even in real life
Looks like no-one is around. What did you all do move out to C. T. with Natasha....if that's is all it takes...a few little pics...
Hi Solar, Do you know H.S.?
Jan,
No. It is just the impression that I have about her..
Chlo,
Im looking for my fish hug back, and if I don't get it from you..im going to hug a real fish...but on the Scale of one to ten. You're a, oops gotta go and answer the phone....
Jan,
Just remember the first time that I saw Hillary Swank in a movie: It was on on of those Karate Kid movies...
Solar! Stay away from those fish! What you need is a human hug, so I'm sending one your way quick.
There, did you get it?
Smart, cute eleven year old over at TM, huh? Know's more what's going on than I do. Still, I spend the whole day with a 9 month old. I like a little adult talk when I'm online. Am I selfish?
Hillary Swank isn't one of my favorite actors, but I do like her. 'Amelia' looks like a good movie.
Carol, Where are you tonight? We miss you.
Jan, Glad to hear the flu treatment went so well today. Sounds like your class did a great job. Emma needs to get her flu shot too, but I don't think the have the H1N1 here yet. But we need to take her in for her regular flu shot anyway.
Did you get your H1N1 Jan?
Evening folkes, it was such a rough day that I've been speechless for a while. When I finally escaped this afternoon and got half way home they called me back. A guy got his arm sliced open working on the road crew. Had to do some needlework.
Chloe, I checked in at the Trail and saw that they had a young fellow visiting. I also thought that it was weird. Could make the place a little uncomfortable.
Chloe,
Thanks I got it: A 10.
No you are not being selfish, I feel the same way. Sure its nice that he was around, but I think that adults should say what they feel like saying ...I think that is what Champ was getting at when he said that he had to watch his language...sounds like a real nice kid, but if I were the grandfather, I wouldn't let him talk on this kind of blog tho.
Chloe, It is healthy to be selfish. Of course, you need some adult conversation.
I don't know if I will be getting the H1N1 - they need all they have for the young people. I feel pretty sure I have some immunities to the H1N1. Since I am a care provider (nurse) and work with preg women and children, I may be able to get it. The health dept got much less than what they expected.
If and when you can, get Emma the H1N1. Since you are her caregiver, you need to have it too.
Oh Carol, where art thou??
The movies I remember HS in was the one where she played a girl who wanted to be a boy or a boy who wanted to be a girl -my memory is failing me on this one. The other one was when she played a boxer. She was great in both films.
Carol, Sorry to hear that you had that kind of day. That sure is one heck of a stressful job.
I'm so glad to hear you say that about it being a little uncomfortable with an eleven year old regular. I felt guilt when I wrote that, and thought some here would think I was being insensitive. I was going to make a little joke, that being there could be a little like babysitting, but then I knew I'd be really out of line. So, no, I didn't just say that, and this comment will self destruct in a few minutes. Really.
Solar, Did you notice that I beamed it to you? Remember, Carol was talking about that a while back. Well, I thought I'd give it a try and it worked. And it was a 10 when it got there? It actually went up in value!
Modern Family on. I need a laugh.
Chloe,
My first thought about the youngster, was-what was the interview with Craig like...Purple had to step in and talk on his grandsons behalf...
I remember H.S. from the one where she played a boxer too Jan. She got the academy award for best actor that year.
She also was in one a while back, where she went on vacation to Ireland, and met the love of her life there (then he died). A good, funny comedy, then it got depressing for a while.
Enjoy Carol. I know you like that series.
Carol,
Looks like you need a hug today also...so here...
Chloe,
I can't remember it all, and don,t know if I taped it or not....about the holograms that I told you about...we will actually be able to be two places at one time...
We will be able to take a vacation by beaming ourselves to another country, or to a business meeting, Play golf, and it will feel like we were there..have to keep an eye out for it.
"was-what was the interview with Craig like"
I know Solar, it is just so awkward for me. I'm feeling awkward about a lot of things lately though. So I figure it's just me.
You know how it is, when you're changing, and you think it's the people around you are changing, until you figure out it's just you? Well, I think I'm going through something like that right now. Just when I was feeling really comfortable with the way things are, too. I hate this feeling - these little transition periods.
I still don't see how we could be two places at the same time Solar. That sounds like more of a parallel universe... maybe that's what your talking about?
Did you ever see Michael Keaton's movie: Multiplicity. He's a contractor who needs help, so makes clones of himself.
"I hate this feeling - these little transition periods."
Just adjustments that have to be made, from time to time..nothing is the same, once time changes it.
Jan, Thanks for all that information on the H1N1. I'd heard they didn't make nearly as many as they hoped to, and it's difficult to get information on them. I didn't think about being a caregiver to an infant, as a reason to have it.
I'm still not sure why you'd have some immunity either though. You'd think it would be very high priority for you, given the kind of work you do.
Carol, hope Modern family lifts your spirits. That would be frustrating to be looking forward to getting home and then having to turn around and go back to work. I am so happy to get home in the evening, I could do a little dance like Snoopy does in the comics.
Chloe,
No, not like that. But just like you said: When you said beam me up. Just an image of you. We already have it. I remember Wolf B. do it on CNN. he or Don King.
They had an image of themselves doing the news on the news floor..it was just an image.
"Just adjustments that have to be made, from time to time..nothing is the same, once time changes it."
You make it sound so easy Solar. But I've mentioned to you in the past that I have trouble letting go, so that makes it a little more difficult for me.
I love the way you put that though Solar. I'm going to keep a copy of it, to remind myself how easy it should be. You got right the heart of the thing. Thanks.
Chloe, the way I understand it is-they think a strain similar to this one was around in 1957 and many of us who were around then got it and so have some immunity to this one.
Oh, I think I saw what you're talking about with Wolf. Just not real sure how useful it is.
Oh Jan, I didn't know that about 1957. I guess I'm 'really' not keeping up on things.
Hi Solar and Chloe, I go over to TM when I see you guys talking about it, but I don't understand much of what they are talking about. I guess I have just not been up on the politics. I did read some of what the 11 y/o kid was writing. He does seem pretty precocious when it comes to politics. He probably talks a lot to his granddad about this stuff.
"That would be frustrating to be looking forward to getting home and then having to turn around and go back to work."
Yes Jan, Carols always on call. I'd never be able to do what Carol does. I have a lot of respect for her.
"He probably talks a lot to his granddad about this stuff."
I'm sure he does, and he's unusually bright for an eleven year old, I think.
I'm going to have to catch up tomorrow. I've been tired the last couple of days, and plan on relaxing and catching up on some rest tonight. A good book will put me to sleep early.
I'll check-in, in the morning. I've really enjoyed the conversation all. Thanks (I needed it)
Jan,
I think that kids should be kids, and that they will be healthier that way. Not that the grandfather is doing anything wrong..but he should spend time with his grandson, doing somethings else...if I had a great relation ship with my grandson...my time with him would not be wasted on a blog...it is a one time, or once in a great while..then...maybe...other that that, when he is around..it will be different for me...I don't really care tho..I can deal with it.
Chloe,
Sorry if I made it sound so casual. Every change in out lives are important..I just choose to roll with the small ones, try to learn from them...so that the big ones that are coming around the corner..are not so mentally, and emotionally severe, or devastating...
Well, I feel better now. You know you can watch full episodes on your computer at ABC:
Modern Family
It really is a cute show. I haven't watched regular TV in many, many years. Was too wrapped up in the news.
I had another hummer shuttle stop at the juice depot today. I guess they have some procastinators of their own.
Thanks for the hug Solar. I feel even better now. What about a back rub? That would put me over the top.
Chloe we only stop changing when we're dead. Keep changing.
I did have a masseur that made house calls. Very large black dude. Everyone called him Spider. He had a very feminine, gentle side. Very intuitive. He injured his leg in a MVA and I don't think he could make it up these stairs out here with all his equipment. Sure could use a massage.
Chloe, I'm on call 24/7 but don't usually go in after I've left work. I was only half way home and it would have been so much trouble at that time of day to take that guy to an ER and wait all night for a few stitches.
Carol,
No. No back rub. I took a chance with the hug.! Im afraid that I would hurt you're bones, or something...
Carol,
Chloe, knows that, but that is not what she talking about. She is talking about something that she mentally debates, and has a hard time of it when she is deciding what to do about it..once she makes her choice of what to do..she will be ok...
Evening all, wasn't going to check in, late
client meeting, but when I saw what you guys
were talking about thought I should at least
join for a minute.
While I have lost interest in participating elsewhere, I find that Carol has created
a little oasis to just be yourself, & enjoy
the company of others.
Not sure that makes sense, but that's how I
feel.
Was your day OK Coreen?
What wears people out down here are the radical temperature and humidity changes that can occur from day to day. Never have time to adjust.
Ivy, Ivy, what you been climbing up or spreading over today?
Carol,
Just checkin' out what the kid said over at TM. When I was a kid, I always thought the adult conversation was more interesting than the other kids' stuff. Mom always said I was "an old woman" at six. Do you think that was a compliment?
Trying to get inspired for an interesting thread, but I can't get anything to come together in my head. You just can't force creativity, can you? You got it or you ain't.
Nothing particular about my day, just had
a late meeting with a new client, who needs
to file bankruptcy.
Initially, people with financial problems are
pretty stressed & have exhausted all efforts
to try to get it together, so they need some
reassuring that there is help out there.
Hope you get to relax after your day.
See you guys tomorrow.
It'll come Ivy, when it's ready. Don't push it. You have until tomorrow. Tomorrow, tomorrow, there's alway tomorrow.....
Yes I think it is a compliment. I had several of my older friends and relatives say something similar. I wasn't that I waws smart, maybe just a little entertaining.
I always preferred hanging with people who were older. So much I could learn from them. Maybe that is why older folkes liked us Ivy, because we liked them.
Sorry about the typos, long day.
Nite Coreen. I'm starting to see double. Bedtime for me also.
Having to file bankruptsy would be a devastating experience I think. Always worried about money. Not comfortable with it.
Carol,
I think I didn't take it as a compliment at the time, and Mom does not remember saying it, so I don't know that I will know.
Tomorrow is the day I'm not getting back from Hawaii. I can't think how tired I would have been if I was making that long flight.
Chloe, I like the way you take mental breaks and go to the movies. I love it when John is gone and- I have a movie recorded that I want to see or I rent one and sit back and I laugh out loud or talk to the screen or cry sometimes- all by myself. It is a great stress reliever.
I hope that whatever you are working on - that solar is talking about - that you know you have friends here to listen if you need us.
Ivy, maybe what your mom meant was that you are an "old soul" which is a lot different. To me an old soul is someone who is wise beyond their years.
Solar, maybe the kid pestered his gr'fa until he let him do it. I agree with you that kids need to be kids - this may be just a very different kid.
Carol, have you lost touch with Spider? Its good to make contact again with old friends.
Carol, I think Manny is my favorite character on Modern Family. He is an "old soul"
I watched a public TV program called "The Masters" tonight about Les Paul - he was one of my dad's favorite musicians. As they were playing his music I realized I knew the words to all the songs his wife, Mary Ford, sang. I was a little girl then but listened to them on records and radio with my dad. Brought some tears to my eyes - and funny thing- I felt my dad's presence there with me tonight. He died 4 years ago. Another funny thing was that Les Paul was 1 day younger than my dad.
Les Paul died this year (July or August. He was 94.
Jan, I checked out Les Paul on Youtube to see if I had any memories of him and I didn't. I do remember watching Lawrence Welk with my dad. I wasn't really crazy about it though.
I'm sorry to say I don't have a lot of good memories of my dad. He died when I was in college, you remember Jan. He had been sick with cancer for about 8 years before that. Not much of an opportunity for any good memories.
He would take me fishing as a kid but if I did anything wrong, like get a hook caught, he would yell at me. He had no patience and I was a klutz. Didn't even enjoy the experience.
If we went swimming, he demanded I go do tricks off the diving board. My twin would cling to the shallow end of the pool, crying, so she wouldn't have to do any tricks. I wasn't going to do that so I tried to do what he wanted, not that I liked it.
He was not a happy man and he took that out on all of us. He was most abusive to my older sister, who I thought could do no wrong. She seemed to me to be Ms Perfect. He slapped her around a lot. I really hated him for that. I have more angry memories toward him for that than she does.
I'm late getting going this AM. My computer decided to shut down to install something and I was away getting coffee so I couldn't tell it to wait. That took out much of my morning blog time. Drats.
And Coreen, you got to find an oasis somewhere. Still communicate with those who are fun and interesing but with subjects that are more lighthearted and healing.
Bad news all the time takes it's toll on ya. I can see that with some of the people on the Trail. Don't know which came first, the chicken or the egg? Does obscessing with it cause phyical problems or do the physical problems make you want to distract with other things that are equally distressing. Don't know. Don't necessarily want to find out.
Can't avoid the bad news or stick my head in the sand like so many people I know around here do but also don't want to wallow in it.
Carol, I remember when your dad died and that your memories of him were not good ones.
I was closest to my mother as a child and teenager. The one thing I shared with my dad was a love of music. When he heard a tune on the radio or TV that he liked he always had me come listen with him. He didn't insist I like it too - but those were times that he seemed spiritual and he often would sing or hum along and his face would light up with pleasure. It would often leave him in a happy mood for hours. Those were good times with him. He also had a dark side. He had a temper and it showed when things did not go his way. At those times, I, and my siblings, tried to stay out of his way. He and my mother argued a lot. He was emotionally and verbally abusive to my mother and a few times physically abusive to me, my sis and brother. So, those years I both loved and hated him.
Carol, Les Paul was popular in the 1940's and early 1950's. The TV special last night indicated that when rock and roll began, his popularity went south - about when Elvis came on the music scene. So this was way before your time.
Jan,
I should not have spoken for Chloe. I don't know if I am correct about what I said.
Chloe,
I apologize for being so presumptuous. We talked a little about it before at one time...I shouldn't have assumed this was the same.
Carol, hope you are safe. Just saw on the news a tornado on the ground in Jennings Louisiana -this is very near LC. Check in with us as soon as you get home so we know you are safe.
