Black As Coal

I was far far away at the time of Jan's post about her snail, "Slow and Steady."
It must have been another one of those
"uncoincidences" that I was having my own snail experience a world away at the site of "The Nine Staines." We had to climb over quite a bit of "heath and hill" to get to the stones. During the walk back, Hubs spotted this little critter that nearly ended up beneath his foot. I snapped the creature's photo with the intention of "looking him up" upon return.
Here is what I discovered about "the black slug also known as black arion, European black slug, or large black slug, Arion ater, is a species of large land slug, a terrestrial slug in the family Arionidae, the roundback slugs."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_slug

"Snail, snail, Come out of your hole

Or else I'll beat you, As black as coal.

Snail, snail, Put out your horns.

I'll give you bread, And barley corns."

(English Nursery Rhyme)

Didn't those little English kids have the sweetest nursery rhymes?

Ivy Green said...

Here's the rest of the sweet ditty:

"Snail, snail, shoot out your horns:
Father and mother are dead;
Brother and sister are in the back yard,
Begging for barley bread."

Ivy, very interesting little critter. The link said the slug "covers itself with a foul tasting mucous." I wonder who tasted it to determine that it was foul tasting. I am not a gardener but it sounds like people do not like these slugs in their gardens.

Carol said...

Ivy, I'll bet the people in that area would have like Hubs to have stepped on that slug. I don't think they have much of a purpose in life but destruction and no real preditors for them. They are kind of like our Lubber grasshoppers down here in that way. Interesting but useless. Except that they stimulate some interesting poetry.

Carol said...

My sister, in the Pacific NW, has lots of those slugs in her yard. She doesn't like them. I saw them when I was up visiting. Some look just like a piece of dog dooty that was moving.

Carol said...

Kind of startling for us southern folkes to see dog dooty that moves.

Ivy Green said...

"Dog Dooty That Moves" !!! rotflmao...hadn't occurred to me until now.

This fellow was quite a ways from civilization. He would have a long hop, skip and jump to get to a garden, but I guess he was on his journey. As the saying goes, it starts with the first step. lol

Very curious that it's found in Northern Britain AND the Pacific Northwest...there was a flower we were posting about on TM a few months ago that was the same...a Scottish flower that was a noxious weed in the Pacific Northwest. I believe in that "Pan-Continent theory," that once there was only one great land mass. Makes sense to me when I see the similarity in geography between northern Scotland and, say, Pennsylvania!

Pangaea = One Continent

I forgot to mention it was who Hubs protested when I poked the critter with a twig to see what it would do (last picture, it got itself "all balled up.) He just didn't want to feel responsible for any harm to it. Love that Hubs!

paul said...

Dog dooty that moves...you think that U can lure me in with this kind of man talk......ok...maybe thats why they stink? but a man would not run away from it..he would want to investigate it, study it up close, and find out how he can gross someone out....been lurking and enjoying the talk..nothing that I can contribute..mutt and jeff...HA! paul said...

Ivy,

That won't ever replace our (~_*) keep up the postings...great

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
Everyone else is out doing fun things this brilliant Saturday...fishing, soaring in hot air balloons, etc.,...Me, I got some Crimson Tide football on the radio.

wayfarer said...

Hi all, I am back from the Balloon Fiesta. Took some pics. I am waiting for hubby to download on his computr. Talk about "slugs" I was a slug when we got back from the Fiesta. I have napped off & on all morning. I am just beginning to wake up. Am going to see 8 year old granddau play soccer-will return later. It was "grand" fiesta - lots of balloons and people. 4 am was mighty early and was cold out there - we caught a bus out to the field (40 min ride). The great thing about this balloon fiesta is you can get right up to where they are blowing up the balloons with hot gas and stand under them as they ascend. In fact it is sometimes hard for the balloon owners to hold back the crowds. Lots of Fun! Back soon to send the pics and stories.

Carol, how is your party going?
Ivy, lots of games this afternoon. Ark and OK both playing too. My hubs always keeps up with how Alabama is doing too.

Surely there is something good about slugs!

wayfarer said...

Chloe & Solar, what are you up to today?

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
So looking forward to those balloon pics. Back in my "working" days (as opposed to these "slacker" days, lol) my office was decorated with posters of hot air balloons..."soaring" was my inspiration. :)

Ivy, Jan, como estan chicas?

Ivy, I took a long walk to the library, on this fine sat. I have a book that I forgot to take back, or extend...it is the third time that I have extended it...and mostly working on my computer, setting up programs for work, and just going over-over 65 pages of business related info,,that im having a hard time finishing....I have been over to tm to start my usual trouble making post...HA!

Ivy, thanks for not scolding me along with XR, he was out of line, and that's why I stopped him...he is very funny most of the time...I think that this got away from him...he did not realize what he was saying...

I had a very pleasant surprise, and received an e-mail from Coreen, and I invited her here to the swamp...hope she comes...

Jan, On Sat. or Sunday's Im usually outdoors trying to do something constructive...like playing basketball with the teenagers by the park...or something really important, like golfing...but it seems lately I have to work on this dang comp...Oh well...

Where is that Chloe gal...she sure sleep in late on weekends..or catching a double flick at the show...she probably looks like a popcorn...ooops

paul said...

Chole,

I didn't mean to say that: It was that other guy that you have been encouraging latley, Solar would never say that....Im innocent over here, I tell you.

paul said...

Carol,

I have a new e-mail address. pnsolarcreteatgmail.com

why do we have to write at, instead of @ like when it is done?

Ivy Green said...

If I'm not mistaken, Coreen has visited here once or twice. I look forward to her return...

Ivy Green said...

We're enjoying a relaxing evening and a good listen to Prairie Home Companion where Patty Loveless and Wilco are each performing from their newest cd's. Reminiscing about the spectacular weather we enjoyed in Scotland, and how much we miss being there, but on the other hand, it's good to be home.

paul said...

Mary, I think that is Carol's sisters name...Sat. night..time for a little Gin..and a little gin humor...

"Water is composed of two gins, Oxygin and Hydrogin. Oxygin is pure gin. Hydrogin is gin and water."

I hope that you are not like you sister Carol: Can hardly get a giggle out of her....just "that was a good one Solar" I gave her some of my best stuff...I expect a good hahahah out of them...what did you think Mary?

paul said...

Ivy,

It's alway's good to be home. Do you get the same feeling that I do: Whenever I go somewhere...it seems that it takes less time to get home, than it did to get thier, even under the same driving conditions and all....

Ivy Green said...

Wilco is on tour...they were at the historic Alabama Theatre a while back, but did we go??? NOooo! What a missed opportunity. Now the closest they will be in Memphis, and they are SOLD OUT!

Oh well...we'll always have Buddy Guy.

paul said...

Mary,

I think that Carol know this..but here:

"Three kinds of blood vessels are arteries, vanes and caterpillars."

thier= there....i hate that word their..I always have to correct it from thier ..ok there is got that out of my system HA.!

paul said...

Mary,

been giving you my softball stuff, just one more..you gonna like this one...not sure if this is over Carols head..but here:

The body consists of three parts - the branium, the borax, and the abominable cavity. The branium contains the brain, the borax contains the heart and lungs, and the abominable cavity contains the bowels, of which there are five - a, e, i, o, and u.

Last one for a while...will wait to see what you thought about them.

Carol said...

Evening folkes. The feed was a big success but I have too much food left over. I brought a couple of plates over to my friend who had the hip replacement. I love cooking for her because she loves my cooking and makes over it so much. She's a good cook also.

It's nice when you bust your ass to prepare a meal and the person eating it makes over it. It makes it all worth the effort. It was all really good even if I say so myself. My friend has already called a couple of times and to tell me how much she is enjoying the food.

I wish I could beam you all a big plate. Maybe one day.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
Plate picture...not too late!

Carol said...

Jan, I'm looking forward to the balloon pics and story. You can just send the pics, you don't have to make it a big project if you don't want to or you can. You already have so much to do for work.

Solar, I'm glad I can entertain you with the moving dooty. If you would see the slugs in the Pacific NW you would understand what I mean. The large black slug doesn't look like that unless of course the dog had a huge meal, and was on some strong iron supplements. If my Magster's poop looked like that, I would be rushing her to the Vet.

Ivy, I saw a little of the LSU/Georgia game. I'm surprised that LSU won. They weren't playing very well. They must have been praying harder than the other team.

Our guarterback is a little green. I hope they get better before they play Alabamie. Next week is going to be scary, against Florida.

Solar Mary probably won't be tuning in tonight. She is upset because she broke a tooth eating the ribs. She tried to eat the bone. The ribs were melt in your mouth good.

Carol said...

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, he, he, he. That better Solar.

Chloe said...

Ivy, sorry it took me so long to make it over to your new thread. Weekends can get pretty hectic for me, and today was one of those days. Now, reg. slugs, I never see them around my property (or anywhere else nearby), but I'm not sure why. When we lived in Calif., after every rain we'd see snails and slugs. It's dry there and here it's humid, so I'd think it would be just the opposite. I have to admit though, I don't miss them.

I sure did enjoy that deer video you linked. Those deer were so cute. I wonder if that was grits they were feeding them?

Chloe said...

Carol, Glad to hear you meal was a great success. I've still got a lot of catching up to do on the thread, but I did see the part about your meal.

Noticed Solar's been here today.... saw that he was hitting the gin too. I wonder if he's passed out already.

paul said...

Carol,

Thats a lot better. That rib meal sounds very tasty...You have many talents.! later.

Chloe said...

Oh, just saw the jokes. They just keep getting better Solar.

Only read the first half of TM, but saw where you went in and defended Patsi, Solar. I thought that you did the right thing, and handled it well. I saw the part where Tony backed her up too. If I'd been there, I'd done the same.

Chloe said...

What do you mean later? Are you mad because I said you passed out?

Carol said...

Our slugs around here Chloe are itsy bitsy things. Not even an inch long. I'm glad they are. If you leave a cup or bowl outside, you will see a few in it.

Carol said...

Maybe they aren't even called slugs.

Chloe said...

Oh, those little things look like worms to me.

Carol said...

Mag had a good time with all the campany today. She's worn slap dab out. It's weird, but she doesn't really need me to give her much attention except at bedtime. Then she will whine for me to rub her head. She will rub her own head with her paw until I take over.

When company comes over, she whines for everyone to pet her. She talks up a storm.

Chloe said...

Hi Jan, Just saw your post that said you had fun at the Balloon Fiesta. Looking forward to seeing the pics and hearing more about it. Sounds like it sure tired you out. Didn't you say you got up at 4 or something like that?

Carol said...

If you look real close Chloe, with your bifocals on, you will see the little optical tenticles on those little worms.

Chloe said...

It's like Maggie's way of getting tucked in Carol. That head rubbing must relax her and make her feel more loved and secure.

I think animals are just like babies and children. They like a set routine, so they always know what to expect. They recommend the same thing with infants. That you have a bedtime 'ritual' so it works them toward going to bed. Maggie must need the same thing.

Did you watch Ivy's deer video?

Chloe said...

LOL Carol. I never wear those glasses outside. I buy those cheap glasses at the dollar store, and they're not bifocals. I know I could probably use the bifocals, but they'd drive me nuts. I only wear glasses when I read.

I wouldn't want to see those slugs up close anyway. :)

Chloe said...

Solar, Where are you?

Chloe said...

Ok, I just checked and he's over gabbing at TM. Did you read the argument over there today Carol?

Carol said...

Chloe, I only buy the cheap cheaters. I can get 4 pair for $19.95 at Sams. I can't wear those bifocal either. I spent a lot of money on some and they sat in a drawer.

Carol said...

I keep mine on top of my head. I really need them when I'm fishing, to tie the hook on the line. I keep a couple of pairs with my tackle. I hate being dependent on them. I didn't need them until I hit 50.

paul said...

Hi Chlo,

I thought I would give everyone a break from my jokes...and just listen to everyone...you all have so many interesting things to share right now...

I just didn't like H.D. attacking Patsi like that...it reminded my of when Brian was around, and dooty carried his water....I just wanted to back him up a little, and did so..everyone else finally woke up...if we let things like that go, we will let some of them back in...Shiela was around...nothing really against her...but she will bring nanny, and I won't go thru that stuff again...

Carol said...

Solar is a tease. He drops in, gives us a little tease and then bam, disappears. I guess he doesn't want to get caught talking to us womens for long.

Chloe said...

I think nanny was blocked Solar. Along with a couple more.

A lot of people just don't understand what Patsi's talking about, but to me it makes perfect sense.

Carol said...

My stepfather, a farmer, always preferred talking to the women at a party. When they would have a party, all the guys would be in one area and the women and Bob in another.

Chloe said...

Is Carol right Solar?

paul said...

Gabbing? and I never pass out.

Carol said...

I guess I must have missed something on the Trail. When did this happen? I was preusing the blog last night late.

Carol said...

I saw that Bland fellow yesterday or was it the day before.

paul said...

I knew-sooner or later this would come up..this only male stuff,,and all I have to say, is........

Chloe said...

Remember that movie with Mel Gibson movie Carol?
'What women want'. It starts out with him not having any respect for women, then when something happens where he can hear their thoughts, he starts hanging out with them. It was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

When you mentioned Bob, it reminded me of it.

Chloe said...

Tony's been here before Solar.

Chloe said...

What? I can't call it gabbing? Not guy enough for you.

And you never pass out? That's a laugh. You forget who you're talking to hear.

Save it for someone who believes you!

Chloe said...

Carol, I think that Bland guy was a couple of threads ago. I like it when someone, anyone comes in and stirs things up once in a while. I just wish you'd be there once in a while.

paul said...

I know, but still not the same...and thats because he is too nice of a guy to get himself into trouble with you muchachas

Chloe said...

Solar, I should have put (rp):)

Carol said...

I like stuff that guys like Solar ie fishing. Not hunting though. I don't know much about construction or mechanics. I wish I did.

I did built a screened in hot tub house many years back. I used this Ortho book on how to build just about anything. I built a deck then moved a hot tub on and then built the building around it. It turned out nice. I did saw a power cord almost in half when cutting some plywood up on the roof. That kind of scared me a little.

Chloe said...

"he is too nice of a guy to get himself into trouble with you muchachas"

And how about you, are you too nice of a guy to get yourself in trouble? Or do you enjoy it. Getting in trouble is your 'pleasure', right?
(rp)

paul said...

Chloe,

I wrote back to Coreen, Ivy said that she has been here before...I told her about the swamp...and that it was ok to come here...that Carol is hardly around...she is always cooking for someone.....she could send her nephew that lives in Chicago, just a little plate of some ribs, for me....the magster would do it...no?

Carol said...

I do still lurk on the Trail. I just haven't had anything worthwhile to contribute. I used to just add things at happy hour. Now we have happy hour here.

We ought to invite Flatus's Stinky to join us. I sure would like to know more about foraging in the woods for wild eatables.

Chloe said...

Wow Carol. I'm impressed. I could never motivate myself to build something like that.

See, Solar needs to know he can talk about guy stuff here. You said you don't know much about construction, and that's his field of expertise.

I bet you could teach him a few things about fishing too.

Carol said...

I vaguely remember that movie Chloe.

Chloe said...

Carol, Solar wants you to feed him.

Solar, Coreen was here, and left a couple of posts. She said she wouldn't have to time to say much though. It would be so nice if she did.

I emailed her too. I really like her.

paul said...

Thats why U wanted me to come back...just so you can fight with me...well im not that easy....

Carol, You are the kind of women that can be any mans friend, a straight talking, high steppin cajun women. I don't think that there are too many men that are not intimidated by all of you talents....

Carol said...

Why did you tell Coreen that I was hardly around Solar? Does she not like me?

Chloe said...

I forgot about the movie until you mentioned Bob. I think we should rent it so we can talk about it afterwards. Very funny.

Speaking of Bob, another funny movie was 'What about Bob' with Richard Dreyfuss and Bill Murray.

Chloe said...

"im not that easy...."

Ha! Yes you are!!

paul said...

That goes for all of the women here,,including Bear women, I have never talked to a bunch of women that are so in touch with themselves and have nothing to prove. You all have all ready done that....

paul said...

OK, I am that easy...so what.,!

Carol said...

They are Chloe, especially in my age group. That's why I'm single. I once had a guy I dagted, a Dr., that told me I could our ride him, out shoot him and out fish him. I said so.. He later married this nurse. She was an LPN.

I dated this other guy who worked off shore and was a scuba diving instructor. He was so intimidated by me that he spent an entire weekend grilling this cardiovascular surgeon he took on a dive lesson, on heart stuff. He wanted to come home and see if he knew more than I did. Why did it matter. I never flaunted anything I knew.

Chloe said...

Not me Solar. I have a lot of things to prove.

paul said...

No Carol, I did not tell Coreen anything...that was my way of saying that we can run the joint, the swamp, and just teasing you...can't you tell by now, when I am....get Mary over here..maybe she will be able tooooo hic..oops

paul said...

Man, this can be very tiring,,and Max must like it...cos he does this every day, over at tm...

paul said...

Carol, did you like my last joke or not? I get these medical jokes just for you: The least you can do is give my a little haha..and not that phony forced one...

Ivy Green said...

Chloe,

"What About Bob" is one of the funniest movies I ever saw. I watched it at Bear Woman's house a few years ago. I don't know if she "got it" the way I did. You have to have lived in insanity to really get the joke. Over the years, Bear Woman has kept insanity at bay better than me. She walks away from it; I try to "fix" it. My bad.

(^_~)

Chloe said...

I don't think all men are like that Carol. I think those guys must have been insecure. Are you sure you just weren't dating the wrong guys. Those guys sound more jealous than anything else.

paul said...

You have nothing to prove,,,just want to do more things is all....

Chloe said...

I try to fix it too Ivy. It must be our nature.

'What about Bob' was very funny. The only thing is, I don't like to rewatch it because it frustrates me, what Dreyfuss has to put up with. I can't believe that I relate to movies in that way, but often I do.

Chloe said...

Nooo. I don't want to do more things. I just want to do them better.

Chloe said...

Carol, It's best to just assume that Solar is 'always' kidding.

Chloe said...

Beside Carol, how could Coreen not like you. Everyone likes you Carol. You just don't realize how true that is.

paul said...

Carol,

The right person (guy) would have learned from you...all it takes is to shut up and listen..which is why I will listen to all of you..

Ivy mentioned a little while ago about when there was only one continent...very interesting, how it all and why it came to separate..forgot most of it, but have it tapes of it,and what the geologic timer scale would have been..itls like a history book for those that understand it,,and tell us about it....

Carol said...

Yes all the good guys around here were already snagged and I wasn't going to settle. I saw too many women, including family, who did and were miserable. I didn't want to be miserable or make someone else miserable.

Working in a woman dominated profession I didn't run into a lot of guys and I don't go out to bars because I don't drink.

Seemed like many guys in my age group, around here ,liked their women dependent. The guys just a few years younger were not as much that way.

Chloe said...

You know Carol, I think these guys reaction to your success and intelligence, is exactly what Patsi is talking about at TM. Did you read her posts today? I think it's their way of trying to keep women in their place. And when a woman out succeeds them, then it ruins their little image of the way things are supposed to be. They need to feel superior.

Carol said...

That guy that said I out fished him etc, I really didn't. He was better than I was. Maybe he didn't like it that I was almost as good.

Solar, if I would have thought about sending you some food before my nephew left today, I would have done it. That would have been neat. Of course the food may not have made it to you. With what they offer on flights these days, it probably would have been consumed before it got to Chicago.

paul said...

time= timer

Chloe,

The thing that I have learned over at tm, in order not to take it so seriously like I used to, it to try to blend in some humor at the same time that im trying to make a point..kinds keeps from arguing to much...but I have to say something..when the talk is the same thing. day in and day out....just the few of you here manage to keep it interesting..not the tm is not..it is,,very but not so much lately imo

Chloe said...

Carol, reg. your last post, that was their loss, not yours. You're right about a lot of people settling for the wrong person and then being miserable. I think you're trying to blame yourself for something that's not your fault. Don't do it.

Besides, if you really want to be with someone, it's never too late.

paul said...

Carol,

No, food nesccasry, and once again..you are the best. I haven't fished all that much...did hunt before..but not haven't fired a weapon for many years now...I haven't been on a horse for just as many, but love them....Im not intimidated by very many things or ever have been cos I don't envy people...I just admire their talents, and want to understand.....I don't think that those men were afraid of you out doing them..they were afraid of you out thinking them...instead of learning from you...or sharing what they knew..

Chloe said...

Solar, I had to learn that too. Not to take it so seriously. It was a hard lesson, but I finally got it.

The reason I don't usually blend in much humor, is because I have to admit, that I sometimes like to stir things up, to make waves. I don't consciously have that intention, but seeing self satisfied, know it all people, that surround themselves with only those who agree with them, and condemn everyone that doesn't, well.. that disgusts me. And I guess some part of me needs those who do it, to know how I feel about it, for some reason. I don't mean to fight, but sometimes I need to. That's why I respect Patsi so much. Not only is she smarter than the rest of 'em, she never backs down. She's so consistent, and because of that, everything she does makes sense.

Carol said...

Oh I think it is too late Chloe. It would be difficult to learn to live with another person now. I'm too set in my ways. I like doing what I want to do, when I want to do it. Just as it is difficult for people who have been married for years to learn to live alone. They often jump into another relationship pretty quick.

A new relationship is a lot of work. After years of marrage, you can do some of your own thing. Do any of your spouses mind your spending time on your computer?

Chloe said...

.. and she cuts right through the s*it.

paul said...

Ok , I made up for lost time..now will listen to you all....lets hear some good stuff....hope that you arn't sorry that I came back.

Carol said...

Every time I tried to contribute anything on TM no one but you guys ever responded to me. Well, I have you guys here so why bother.

Carol said...

I will continue to lurk on TM and if I have something profound to contribute, I will.

Chloe said...

See Carol, You don't want to be tied down to someone and that's probably always been true. That's why I think you made the decision not to marry, because you would have if that was 'really' what you wanted. I think you have the perfect life and are right where you are supposed to be. Stop doubting yourself. You did things just right.

Chloe said...

It doesn't matter if they respond or not. I don't expect them to anymore. I sometimes prefer they don't. It's less confusing that way. It makes me feel better to get it off my chest, so I comment 'to' myself, I guess.

You don't need to say anything profound... only comment if it makes you feel better.

Chloe said...

"hope that you arn't sorry that I came back."

Are you kidding? You know we like to have you around. I wish you wouldn't cut yourself off when you think you've talked enough. Just talk til you have nothing left to say. That's how you know you're done. Right?

We love to hear you talk Solar!

paul said...

Chloe,

Your right about Patsi, that why I love her..she is just like my sister...Lets see if this comes out right...In real life, on this side of the computer, it hasn't been all that easy for a guy like me...I was always in a jam, cos I would not take any crap from some bigoted jerk. I have been in some very rough situations..and learned that I can do just as much fighting with humor and commons sense then with my fist..they know when Im serious..or not...

That is just a few of the people that I have met..15-20%,,I have always had the privilege to have a lot of nice, decent people for acquaintances, and the friends that I love...both men and women..

Carol said...

I don't think we always make these choices Chloe. What should I have done, put an ad in the paper? Of course, I did work at least a job and a half and go to school for most of my younger years. That left a few hours between midnight and 5 am open.

Ivy Green said...

I try not to comment about TM except on TM, but being present there a year or more now, I have noticed it goes through "phases."

We wouldn't be here on Carol's porch without it, so I'm grateful. I always love Craig. He is an effective leader with a good heart and soul. We need more like him.

Chloe said...

"earned that I can do just as much fighting with humor and commons sense then with my fist"

That is probably the most important lesson you ever learned Solar. You have to be smart to figure that one out, and you did it.

Chloe said...

I agree with everything you just said about TM and Craig Ivy. I'm not sure about those phases those. I see them, but they depend on who's commenting most during set period of time.

I also try not to comment about TM, and broke my rule tonight. But I was really commenting on my commenting. And praising Patsi. At least, that's the way I just rationalized it.

Chloe said...

nite

Carol said...

I like most of the people on TM. I appreciate their different personalities. I would even like to know more about them personally. I like Craig the most. He is so down to earth.

Chloe said...

"I don't think we always make these choices "

Yes we do Carol. I have no doubt about it. You may have been dubious, but you did make them. You're way to smart to deny that.

Carol said...

There are things I would like to know more about you guys but figure you will share them when you want to. I am kind of a nosy person.

When I meet people I try to find out as much as possible about them. When someone tells me about someone they met, I ask all kinds of questions and they tell me they don't know like they never even tried to find out. I probably would have.

paul said...

Same Here Chlo,

I think that Ivy has a good point tho.... If we don't comment too much about tm..we won't be afraid of turning the swamp into a real swamp with a lot of gossip..so I will try to keep it rare on my part...except to just talk about it in a way that you did when you said that I was over there talking...

Chloe said...

I do the same thing Carol. And I'm always shocked that they didn't ask more questions. I can't imagine spending time with a person, and not getting to know them at all.

What an "interesting" evening I've had. In addition to having a great "catch-up talk" with mostly-away-at-college Daughter (she only has "good news" to report, she says), I spent time going through the In-Box of Crap that accumulated over the eight weeks of travel that comprised my summer. OMG. The stuff that not only comes in, but that I HANG ONTO! Why? Let it go, I say. 85% went into the trash anyway, just later rather than sooner.

Proves the maxim that if you leave stuff to sit long enough, it goes away on its own.

"just talk about it in a way that you did when you said that I was over there talking..."

I have that same problem Ivy about discarding things. I have kept a piece of paper with a phone number and no name. Like one day I might remember what name goes with that number.

Glad you had such a good day Ivy!
.. now I'm gone.

How many emails in your inbox Ivy. I have 355 and I have cleaned it out.

Chloe said...

Oh yeah, that right, you were over there gabbing. Haha

Sleep well. All you gal-pals

Carol,
Sometimes even having the name doesn't help. I been asking Hubs "who is Emily and why do I have her number?" He has no idea, and neither do I. I'm not about to call her. If she needs something, she can call. In the meantime, never trouble trouble till trouble troubles you."

You've got me laughing so much, I'm probably going to laugh myself to sleep now. I don't know how I do it. Just listening to you gab, I guess.

Carol said...

Ivy, something I wanted to know is what kind of guitar does your Hubs play? How long has he played the guitar?

Nite Solar, Chloe.

Carol, your "feeds" sounds great. It is nice when you cook and people appreciate your meal. It takes a lot of time to cook and you put so much of yourself in your cooking. My sister loves to cook and loves to see people enjoy what she makes to eat. when I cook, it just seems like such a lot of work for so little in return. I had 3 boys and husband to cook for and I don't think there was much ever said about the meals.

"I have never talked to a bunch of women that are so in touch with themselves and have nothing to prove. You all have all ready done that...." Solar, that is one of the neatest things I have ever heard a guy say. You sound like a good guy.

I too loved the movie "what about Bob" For me it brought up some mixed feelings. I felt bad for his therapist because it seemed he could never get away from Bob - and yet, his therapist (Drefus) was a pretty arrogant, self-serving kind of person too - so he really seemed to deserve it. I also loved how Drefus' family took Bob's side in the conflict between Bob and Drefus.

I am interested in the blog you all are talking about TM - how do you get into that blog?

I am waiting on my husb to download my memory card to his computer - then will get the pics to Carol

Ivy, I have the same problem - little pieces of paper with tele #'s - How neat to have a good conversation with your daughter.

Nite all
I will try to get pics out tomorrow.

Solar has probably gone to bed but I wonder if living with all those women, mom and sisters, helped him to be more comfortable around women.

Some men may not be comfortable around women because they don't want to get personal and women like to get personal. They want to stay more aloof.

Carol,
Hubs has acquired several guitars. The main one is Fender Stratocaster. He also bought a vintage Les Paul. He played as a kid, but not seriously. It's almost two years now that he's been taking serious lessons.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
I forgot to mention, my daughter called ME! How cool is that?

Ivy Green said...

Did Solar say THAT? I have to go back and read that again...

Carol said...

Ivy, I was wondering if he played lead guitar, rhythm, or bass?

Carol said...

I think that is wonderful that your daughter called Ivy. College does make them change their focus. It is kind of a scary experience but also wonderful in that they are getting more independent or at least trying to be.

I put up a couple of pics on a New Post. Nothing special, it's my attempt to capture a couple of birdie pics. Don't let it stop anyone from adding another New Post.

I don't know, Carol. It's not bass. When he's practices, it's by himself.

His goal is lead. In the "office band" and at camp he played lead, but they switched so others could also play lead.
