LOBIE

Last Sunday, John, my husband was the celebrant at our church. It was St. Francis' Day. St. Francis was the Patron Saint of Animals. In celebration of St. Francis Day, our church has a Blessing of animals or as John put it "our animal companions". Many members of the congregation brought their animal companions and at the close of the service they were each blessed, "May you and your human companions enjoy life together and find joy in God who created you." This is probably my favorite service. The pictures published here are of my husband, John in Green and Lobie our animal companion in her own lovely gray and tan coat. I took the pictures. Jan

Jan, Beautiful pictures and a beautiful dog! What a wonderful idea, to have a day to honor these gorgeous creatures. You and your husband are fabulous.

Thanks for sharing Jan.

Solar, It's a please with Budweiser on it. Is that better. :)

Just don't get drunk again. You know what happened last time I let you drink. Well, then again, you probably don't remember. You were out, when I threw you off the back of that pickup.

Jan, Now I see what happens when I upload multiple pictures. I upload them in order, then they show up here with my first uploaded picture as last. The program reverses it. So next time I'll upload them backwards.

I may not leave after all. It's pouring here, and only has let up a little once. I missed that window of opportunity, but won't miss the next one if it lets up again.

(Those poor little hummers are having a hard time getting to the feeder, because it under an eve, and a water wall coming down from the roof - they're trying though, and several have made it)

Chloe, thanks.

Chlo,

I forgot about that. I haven't thought about anything yet....lots of things going on at the same time.! but like I told you before...I have a hard time saying no.....not even to someone that threw my ass off a moving pick-em up trk....

jan said...

Chloe, sorry you are having so much rain. Stay dry and warm.

Carol said...

Afternoon peeps. It's raining here also, Chloe. The temp dropped about 20 degrees since earlier today. I had to run by my house,, on my way home to pick up some sweats to wear. Oh boy.

Let's see, what is there to do on this kind of a weekend, cool and rainy? Cook and eat, two of my favorite activities.

Great post Jan/Chloe. Don't give up Jan, you'll catch on to this posting stuff. You've come a long way baby.

That is a sweet pic of your hubs and Lobie. Lobie's got some sweet eyes. Lures you right into them. Hubs look sweet too.

Jan, I was remembering something else. We were talking about portion sizes for meals last night. I seem to remember that you never cooked big portion sizes when you cooked.

When I went to your house to eat, the entire family meal, I thought was just my dinner. It was just the opposite when I went to Lynn W's house. She'd plunk something down in front of me that I thought was for her entire family and it was just my dinner. I learned not to eat until I saw what the rest of the family was doing.

I see by our map that we had someone from Brazil drop by. Now how would someone from Brazil find the Swamp? Or someone from Africa? Think they got a little lost. Probably some man who wouldn't let his wife stop and ask for directions.

Solar said...

Ok Chloe,

IM, almost ready for the post.

"Jealous dogs, don't play ball"

(Im teasing everyone a little here with this title...is it about dogs?? or something else. :-))))

going to need some help...I will call you by email...I like that, cal by email...

Solar,I had just left this picture site and come over here to leave you a comment. It's weird, because you had just poste at 2:44 (4:44) at the same exact time I got here. Telepathy.

This is the site where I got that waterfall picture that I like so much. They also have space pictures, animals, etc. They're all high pixel and enlarge to desktop size very well. The best all around site I've found for that, and they're all free. Desktop Photographs

Carol, Pretty nice being able to get off work early so many times this week.

That post is all Jans, no credit to me. She had everything there on her draft, but I just couldn't get it to do anything for some reason. But the story was there, the pics were linked on the draft, so I just moved them over to my computer, retyped the story she had already typed and presto, it was done.

Carol said...

It isn't early Chloe. I get off of work at 3 and sometimes a little earlier if we're through early. We weren't today. I didn't get home until about 3:30 today. Remember those times are Pacific time.

Solar said...

Chloe,

Like I said, Im back and forth, so this will take a little time...glad that Jan made this thread...and bought me some time....I have to go back and see how to do the pics and all...

I think we should apply for the next Nobel Peace prize. Anyone done anything peaceful here? You don't have to do very much.

I think that maybe Lobie could get that prize for that peaceful look she has on her face.

Jan,
I googled St. Francis Prayer for the Blessing of the Animals and located this. I can't say if this is the standard prayer in all denominations, but I thought it was a pretty one, and fits nicely with your post.

“Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless this pet. By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen.”

Jan,
Good effort on making the posting. Your drafts are still in the draft folder. I was thinking you might have done an edit and then forgot to push "save" before you hit "publish post." So the published page came up blank. I wonder if you went to your draft, and hit "publish post," it might still post? Anything you post can be deleted, even your drafts. Do I sound like I've fooled around with this thing a bunch and made most of the mistakes that can be made? If you guessed yes, you would be correct.

Carol said...

Jan, are you feeling better? I saw on the other blog post you were feeing under the weather.

Ivy, I just let you bless the Magster with the blessing you found. She thanks you.

I think I caught a fleeting glimpse of a hummingbird trying to alight on my feeder when a sudden downpour erupted on her little head and drove her away. If it was a bird, it's the only one in more than a week.

Today is our Angus's birthday, and also Bo Obama's.

Carol said...

I bet you have more hummers than you think Ivy.

Happy Birthday Angus and Bo.

Carol,
I wonder for how long does the Whosamung us tracker keep its history? And when did it start counting us? I wonder if the "UK" poster was me when I was logging in from London and Aberdeen?

Carol said...

I just put it up yesterday afternoon. I wonder if it could be your friends in Scotland?

Carol said...

Do your friends in Scotland have an Internet connection?

Ivy Green said...

Yes, I've been e-mailing with her about the kids.

Carol said...

Hi, friends in Scotland.

Hi, other people from around the world.

jan said...

Ok folks, went back and deleted those drafts. I had 3 drafts - you can't say I am not persistent. Chloe thanks for posting this and Carol thanks for your cheerleading. I will be able to do this - just not today.
My throat is really sore now. Got some spray stuff at the grocery so its better now. I slept for 2 hours this afternoon and woke up craving a burger so John drove us to Burger King - my fav fast food burger. So no more nausea. I think it just might be a cold.

jan said...

Ivy, great that you posted the Blessing - now all our animals are blessed on here including the hummers. The priest who did the sermon Sunday said St. Francis did not feel we humans had dominion over the animals, but that they were equal to us. I do have some very ambivalent feelings about using animals for research purposes. That would be a good idea for a new post.

jan said...

Hi folks in Scotland. I love your scenery and castles.

jan said...

Solar, glad to help ..so you will have time to post - but you are not off the hook.

jan said...

Chloe, thank you for all those instructions - I did learn something new. Now I sign in at the top. Before this I was typing in a comment and then signing in each time I posted a comment - if I went off site and came back had to sign in again to make a comment. I think now I sign in and then I can go out of the blog and come back in and comment and finally at end -sign out.

Carol, John is pretty sweet. I hurt his feelings the other day without meaning too. I wanted to post the pics of his Blessing Lobie but I thought I should "protect his identity" so I asked him to edit the pics and blur his face - well, he didn't talk to me for a couple of days and I didn't know what was wrong. So finally he told me I had hurt his feelings - he says not to worry about his identity - he says he sends his pic to lots of his friends for posting. So there you go. He said not to post his SS number however.

Carol said...

I don't think that pic would have been too good if you would have blurred John's face Jan. Hey I got my mug out there. It does have a orb on it so watch out anyone who tries to mess with me. Have orb, will travel.

Solar said...

Jan,

No, I didn't think that I was off the hook. Not with little mz.... around!

Carol send an invite to pnsolarcreteatgmail.com I think that I will need it in- order to post..thanks

Carol said...

OK Solman, it's on it's way. Hey, is our moon still up there? Can't tell since it's raining outside.

Solar said...

Carol,

I don't know how I did it, but Solar is back, instead of that "gabby" Paul..thats what tony calls me...Solarman....and thats whats on my jammies...not that wuss..superman, got it?

Anonymous said...

You better believe he's not off the hook. I already sent him a case of Bud, so he owes us a few posts.

Carol, It stopped raining here. Good luck seeing the moon after staring at this computer for a while. When I turn it off at night, I can't see anything - walking through a dark house, I'm stumbling around and running into things. Maybe I've got my monitor too bright.

Anonymous said...

Won't do any good. Solar is just as gabby as Paul.

Solar said...

testing for pic

Solar said...

Well, at least I learned something..will that stay on now, or will I have to do something else..I should have been paying attention in class!

Carol said...

Chloe, I just noticed you have a new pic up. It's not one of your kitties, is it? If it is, your hummer feed ain't high enough.

Solar said...

Carol,

I sometimes have doubts about the moon landing... sometimes I think that it was all made up..things fall (sats) apart now, in today s advanced science of space...back then we didn't know Jack, the Astronauts would have disintegrated in their tin foil suit...????

Carol said...

Solar, this may be something that will interest you. I have this guy's book. He's interesting.

Bruce Lipton - The New Biology - Where Mind and Matter Meet

Solar said...

Now Im just like Jan....a split personality..haha

Not funny:

When you smell an oderless gas, it is probably carbon monoxide."

Anonymous said...

No Carol, not one of mine, I don't keep tigers here, but I thought it was more me. Emma is so sweet and innocent, that I thought I'd give her a break. Did you notice that tiger is sticking it's tongue out at the world?

"Though mass consciousness is currently imbued with the belief that the character of one's life is genetically predetermined, a radically new understanding is unfolding at the leading edge of science. Cellular biologists now recognize that the environment, the external universe and our internal physiology, and more importantly, our perception of the environment, directly controls the activity of our genes."

That book looks interesting Carol. I like that last sentence contradicting the first sentence, and it goes without saying that the second sentence is much closer to what I believe.

Carol said...

Chloe, I heard that guy one night on Coast to Coast AM, George Noory's radio show.

Anonymous said...

I bet that was interesting Carol. Did you buy the book after that? And have you read it?

Carol said...

That link I just put up is a video of Dr. Lipton speaking. I haven't listened to it yet. I just found it earlier today.

Solar said...

Carol,

Thanks, and booked it for later...I agree with him, in evolution, very little is pre-determined...I hope that he knows what matter is..kinda of hard to define...not that it matters to me tho...HA!

Carol said...

Yes I read the book last year.

Carol said...

I know how fascinated you are with the brain Solar. One of your favorite toys.

Solar said...

Carol,

It started out with the Philosopher Spinoza, and it led me to reading. Joy sorrow, and the feeling brain..only I can't seem to read it all..something always comes up now, and by the time that I get back to it..I forgot most of what I read...so I re-read it, and find something that I overlooked...

This Spinoza lived during the 16th century, and was not considered a great mind...he was not religious enough, and was excommunicated..but he made many, many connections between the mind, and that of body states....that are pertinent even now..

The Author Antonio Damasio, has written a cpl of books that are interesting. Going to change the pic, by my name..can't read the info, on it...

Boy, we're having a lethargic evening tonight. It's raining cats and dogs. For excitement, I'm making a grocery list.

jan said...

Chloe, I like the tiger too - but baby pic is my favorite.
Solar, I have a split-personality - ????
Carol, I am pretty lethargic tonight - only felt like sitting in front of the TV. How is your grocery list coming?
Dr. Lipton sounds interesting. I could not listen to his video - I don't have speakers hooked up on my old computer here at home.

By the way, I have a new course and had a content area about autism that I have inherited. Wow! The new research news is that 1:95 now have autism. I have to say, before this I did not know much about the disorder. I had a guest presenter in to present the content and a mother who has a child with autism. Its a pretty devastating diagnosis for a family.

It's probably too late in the evening to start a discussion. But I'll throw out a "pet" topic anyway just to get it on the boards.

I'm reading my favorite breed dog magazine, and discover there's a running debate in the "letters to the editor" section about underground electronic pet fences. Opinion seems to be running against the fences, that they're somehow dangerous to dogs because they keep your dog in, but do not keep other animals out, leaving your dog vulnerable.

I don't agree with the view that electronic pet fences are bad. Our fence has been successful containing our dogs. They can run around the yard within the perimeter, but know not to cross the invisible barrier. Our dogs get more activity this way than if we held them on a leash. It's not very easy to walk three dogs on leashes anyway.

I don't think the fences should be used in place of personal supervision...a normal fence should not be used that way either...dogs dig, dog jump, and dogs climb. We don't put our dogs outside and forget about them.

I just don't get what these folks' beef is about. Don't "letters to the editor" select negatively, in other words, it's the complainers who are motivate to write? After all, this is a complaint, and I'm writing it. (I'm complaining about the complainers.) lol
