Lazy, Foggy Weekend

Starting out as a foggy, dreary Saturday, so its a good time to just hang out & let Mother
Nature work her magic.

This is how our morning started out. Looking
out of my driveway, when I went out for the
papers & then the view coming back in to the
house.

Beautiful, soft and serene, Coreen.

Carol said...

That's my pome Ivy.

jan said...

Thanks Carol for the heads up to new thread.

jan said...

I was back at the old one just having a good old time talking to myself.

jan said...

Coreen, beautiful.

jan said...

We simply cannot improve on the great Mother.

Coreen said...

Still trying to figure out how to add words
to the pics, but did learn that the sequence
you want is to place the last scene first, then
add each that you want to lead up to it.

The only poem I remember about fog is the one about coming in on little cat's feet, so your
'pome' certainly describes what Mother Nature
gives us sometime.

jan said...

Interesting, the black icon says there are 5 linking into this site, but when I go back to previous one, it says 7 are linking.

Carol said...

Don't you worry your little head about a pome Coreen. Ivy will find one soon if she's around.

Carol said...

A minute ago Jan it hit 12. I saw it, it hit 12. Might have been that a few just fell in the swamp, but we count them also. Even the gators if we get um.

Here is a little pome I found in honor of Miss College's Cat and Fiddler -

As the cat
climbed over
the top of
the jamcloset
first the right
forefoot
carefully
then the hind
stepped down
into the pit of
the empty
flowerpot
by William Carlos Williams - it is titled simply "Poem"

My contribution for the day.

jan said...

I will catch up tomorrow.

Carol said...

Cool pome Jan.

I just loved one of those commercials they had several years ago for the Superbowl. There was this guy fixing dinner for his wife or girlfriend. He had spagetti sauce on the stove and was cutting up something with a large knife. The cat jumped into the spagetti sauce. He grabbed the cat, dripping with red sauce, by the nape of the neck and was holding it in one hand and the knife in the other. In walks his wife.....

Next you see the caption..."things aren't always as they seem". Anyone remember that commercial?

Carol said...

Actually it said "don't judge too quickly".

Don't judge too quickly

Knew we could count on you Ivy.

Coreen, Is that outside you house!? Gorgeous! You caught the mood and light so well. Beautiful house too Coreen. It's easy to see why you're in love with Connecticut.

Man, it doesn't get much better than that. Thanks for putting up those pictures.

Ivy Green said...

Beautiful photos, Coreen. The quintessential Connecticut, as I would see it.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
Your pome is a keeper, I'm writing it into my book. Thanks for posting it. Wiliiams chose a good title for it, but he misspelled it.

(^_~)

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
Your cat commercial comes under that heading, "no good deed goes unpunished." lol

Coreen said...

Ivy, like Carol, I was pretty sure you would know the cat's feet poem. I am not inclined toward poetry so its good to have someone that can share.

Next up I will give you some of those autumn
leaves colors Carol originally asked me to find,---(Carol, your wish is my command) but don't want to hog the blog.

Thanks everyone for the compliments about my home.

Chole, yes it is my house, I had it built about
10 years ago, it was my vision that the architect drew. I am not a 'mcmansion' type,
dutch colonial suits me just fine. I always
wanted to live at the end of a long driveway
in the woods & I was fortunate to find the
property back then, took over a year to have it
built, something I would not attempt again--once is more than enough.

And though it is not evident, the house is stained the color of an eggplant.

Carol said...

Very neat home Coreen and yes that is the color of an eggplant. We eat them down here.

Hog the blog all you want Coreen. It's your blog too and it's not hogging, it's sharing. We thank you for sharing.

Carol said...

Now off the grocery shop and wash clothes. Hope there's more good stuff when I return.

Ivy Green said...

Coreen,
You have an artist's eye. Your pictures only add to the blog, so let me second Carol's comments about not "hogging the blog." I like your sense of humility, however, don't change yourself to suit us.

Ivy Green said...

I am being dragged away from the computer. Our fall planting bulbs arrived more than a week ago, and have been left unpacked in our garage. It's time to do some digging, Hubs says. The only time he gets surly about me hanging out on the computer is when he's ready to "Move" to something else.

I do have to get my new ivy plants into the ground anyway!

Ivy Green said...

We broke open the bulb box to discover it crawling with ants! We don't know if they are Alabama ants from our own garage, or Connecticut ants. I'll listen closely to hear if they have accents. The box was shipped from Litchfield, CT. Or Torrington.

lol

Solar said...

Coreen,

What you need to do is to talk some more. Im starting to get a better picture of you now: A few things that I thought about you; are starting to get confirmed...

there is this one thing tho..that Im waiting so the blanks can get filled in....no, no don't tell me..the fun is in the finding out...like I did with S.S.S.

Your house looks much like one that I built a few years back, very much alike..It took me less than one year...but it was a pain, cos the client kept changing shier minds...it drove me nuts ( and thats only a little way's) but it turned out well......

I love the way that they chose to save, and scatter the trees...you have an extra room.....sound proof walls.. im a little loud..specially on Weekend...I have some oldy's but goodies blasting on now..

Ivy Green said...

FUNNY.!

Jan, If you get to TM today you can see one of my favorite subjects that I love blasting them there about....

Chloe,.......

Solar said...

Oops, I forgot Carol...smooooch, later

Solar said...

Carol, I know you like a book: Thats why I came back, and will say yer to your next question..which is........

Solar said...

yer=yes

Carol said...

I'm going to spend some time pondering my question Solar. Don't want to waste it.

Just got home from the WM. I could barely button my blue jeans this morning. In fact I was losing circulation to the lower portion of my body so when I went to my house to throw in a load of clothes, I found a bigger pair of jeans, only pair I have that is bigger.

Needless to say, when I got to the grocery store, I passed up the cookie, candy and chip section. sniff, sniff. I'm going to be doing some jonesing a little later today.

Carol said...

PS. I didn't pass up the bread section. Baby steps.

Carol said...

Ick about the ants Ivy. If you lay the bulbs out, the ants will probably move away....into your yard....and make a new little mound....and take over the yard...and you'll have a little pieces of CT right there in your own yard.

Ivy Green said...

We brushed the ants off the bulbs and planted them anyway. Some ants probably got buried. For them, I doubt it's a problem.

The worst of it was later when we found the ants had also invaded the plastic bin where we store the dog food. That was gross. Only one small bag of food (that I reserve as treats) was infested. I didn't want to waste it, so I poured the dog food into a bowl and put it in the microwave. It took about 5 minutes (one minute at a time) to cook those ants. But it's safe for them to eat now, even if the kitchen smells like cooked dog biscuit.

P.S. Happy Birthday today to Miss Lillie Pup. She's one. Does that mean she's not a puppy anymore? lol

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
What's "jonesing?"

Ivy Green said...

That word, "buried" is one that is pronounced differently in different regions. I say it, "burr-eed." I have heard it as, "berried," and also, "barry-eed." What say you, if you can come up with a creative transliteration...? lol.

Carol said...

Jonesing..."to have a strong need, desire, or craving for something"

Urban Dictionary

Carol said...

I pronounce it "berried"

Carol said...

Jonesing is usually used to describe the need for a drug that someone is addicted to. I'm addicted to my cookies, now it't chocolate covered grahams, and candy. They call me from the frig. I keep them in the frig all cool and crisp.

Carol said...

Happy Birthday Miss Lilly Pup! And she's still your little pup.

Carol said...

I don't think I would give the pups any buscuits that might be covered with dead ants especially if they are a red ant. May have some kind of reaction. Were they red ants?

Carol said...

Of course, Maggie gets no commerically prepared dog food. I make her food. Chicken with no steroids, antibiotics, etc, squash, and whole grain pasta. Alternate the chicken with ground chuck.

Coreen said...

Evening all,

The Yankees game has been cancelled tonite, its
raining pretty hard right now, but pretty warm like 65, play Sunday night now.

Ivy, sorry about your 'ants', they must be
home-grown, we don't allow ants!

And I would say berried. Found a short accent
quiz, but have no idea how to link it here.
It's only 10 questions & I am a Northeastern,
surprise.

Carol, the big chocolate chips from the bakery.

Coreen said...

Solar,

Sorry still no spare room here. The area over
the garage has never been finished, in fact
the entire floor is covered with 'stuff' mostly
christmas decorations, I have no idea
how I collected so much, I just shake my head
when I go up there.

Carol said...

Coreen, I'll see your beautiful, soft, serene morning and raise you one glassy smooth river, afternoon.

Glassy smooth river afternoon

Carol said...

I dropped into a coma nap from the combined effect of getting up before 4 AM and withdrawing from my treats.

When I awoke from my coma, I looked out the window, and saw how glassy smooth the river was. My river has so many moods. I guess it was taking a nap also and I caught it before it woke up.

Carol said...

Pretty cool quiz. I definitely came out "The South"

Carol said...

Ivy, a friend just called me to tell me that the Alabama/Tennessee game was the best game she's ever seen in her life. She was rooting for Tennessee. Roll Tide!

Their gonna beat our ass.

Coreen said...

Really nice, Carol. Your river looks like
glass, was that in the late afternoon sun?

Your very own piece of heaven right here on earth.

And if you could tell me how to do a link that
works, I will try it.

Ivy Green said...

Lol - here is my quiz result! So much for all my Southern living! ha!

"Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard."

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
The Tide-Vols game was a nail-biter. Praise be to "Mount Cody."

Coreen said...

Carol, I know you take lots of photos, wondering do you have a digital photo frame.

I have a couple (10" frame) they are really pretty neat.

You can put lots of pics in them & when you turn it on, its a slide showfrom one to another.

You can even put music on it, but I have not
tried that.

I also have a small, fast scanner that you can
scan old photos (before digital) & add to the frame. I did that with pictures of my grandmother, dad, uncle, (who passed years ago)and even my family when we were all very young, & it works great.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
Last year's game between LSU and Alabama would be hard to top for sheer excitement.

Ivy Green said...

Coreen,
I'm sure my ants were Alabama-grown.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I brushed away all the dead ants before repackaging the biscuits. Besides, you don't think the dogs would like "Tabasco ants" on their kibble? lol

Coreen said...

Was surprised that the accent quiz was right on for me, & it seems for Carol.

Ivy, does the fact that it id'd you as a phillidelphian or south jerseyite, ring true?

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I'm assuming you cook Maggie's food. I keep reading in my breed-magazine about advocates of a raw diet as being healthiest for dogs. I can't imagine it, but that's what they insist. I have never had a vet recommend a raw diet to any dog of mine.

Ivy Green said...

Coreen, yes, it makes sense, I was raised in Delaware. I just didn't know I still sounded like it! lol

Carol said...

Coreen, you will have to let Chloe, our technical advisor here, explain that linking stuff to you.

I do have one of those photo frames Coreen but haven't even taken it out of the box yet. Will need to do that.

Ivy, hope those ants didn't leave any tabasco ant do do on the buscuits. Did you look? Do you have a microscope?

I do cook Maggie's food. She doesn't do tartare.

I was surprised that I do have an accent.

Solar gave me premission to ask him a question so I need some help here to make the most of it. Ya'll need to email some good suggestions. Of course, he didn't really say he would answer it.

Anonymous said...

Coreen, I took your accent test (thanks for linking it) and it said that I don't have an accent, which is what I thought (but then most people think that).

""You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio."

What it says about TV or radio is way off, but I like that it said I could be from almost anywhere.

Solar said...

Carol's twin Mary, I have a joke for you..if you don't like. tell me your self..if you like it: You owe me a post..im getting just like you sister huh? Here:

A man is walking home alone late one foggy Halloween night, when behind him he hears:

BUMP....

BUMP...

BUMP...

Walking faster, he looks back and through the fog he makes out the image of an upright casket banging its way down the middle of the street toward him.

BUMP...

BUMP...

BUMP...

Terrified, the man begins to run toward his home, the casket bouncing quickly behind him.

FASTER...

FASTER....

BUMP...

BUMP....

BUMP....

He runs up to his door, fumbles with his keys, opens the door, rushes in, slams and locks the door behind him. However, the casket crashes through his door, with the lid of the casket clapping.

Clappity-BUMP...

Clappity-BUMP...

Clappity-BUMP...

On his heels, as the terrified man runs.

Rushing upstairs to the bathroom, he locks himself in. His heart is pounding; his head is reeling; his breath is coming in sobbing gasps.

With a loud CRASH the casket breaks down the door.

Bumping and clapping toward him.

The man screams and reaches for something, anything, but all he can find is a bottle of cough syrup! Desperate, he throws the cough syrup at the casket...

And,

(hopefully you're ready for this!!!)

The coffin stopped...!!

I read in one of the posts that Carols river looks like glass in the afternoon sun, but I don't see it on the thread. Was there a picture?

Coreen, Is that small, fast scanner you have especially for your digital photo frame, or does it work on your computer too.

We had the cutest little black and white short hair kitten wonder into onto our property a couple of days ago, and run up to me as though she'd known me forever. She can't be over 9 or 10 weeks old, and has a lot of characteristics of my first cat (who died of old age several years ago). I swear, I think this cat is a reincarnation of him. He was a short hair black, so they don't look alike, and are different sexes, but she has his temperament and even his loud purr. I don't know how she ended up out in the world all alone, but she's found home now.

Anonymous said...

LOL Solar
... but I don't get it (?)
I can be pretty dense getting jokes sometimes though. Loved your delivery, but you or Mary need to fill me in.

Solar said...

I have short blk, and white hair....

Anonymous said...

huh?

Solar said...

The thing that was chasing him had a cold..and when he threw cough syrup at it..it stopped coughing..coffin..Texans!!

Solar said...

Chloe, on my head i have short and white...mostly whit hair..like your cat that needed a home....no more jokes ....

Carol said...

Chloe, I do have a theory.......I do think that our pets from the past will come back as another pet....

Chloe, I left a link to my river pic. Look up there. I have it in my Saturday morning album but I didn't link the album just the pic.

Very funny joke Solar. I laughed a lot. I don't think Mary will be on today. She's trying to finish this jewelry she is working on. She's also a procratinator.

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry Solar. Now I'm really laughing. I told you I can be dense.

If you ever wondered onto my property, you'd get a home too. Nothing gets kicked off this place, once they're here. :)

(Don't stop telling jokes, just because I'm a little slow)

Carol said...

I'm laughing even harder now. At you two. I did get the joke from the get go. I guess it helps to be a nurse.

Anonymous said...

Oh, but I have to know one thing Solar: Do you purr?

Carol, I missed your Saturday album, I'll go back and look.

I wasn't kidding about the reincarnation either. I loved that cat more than anything in the world, and will 'never' get over losing him. He came into my life at just the right time, and he truly was my baby. So I guess, in his case, I have to believe in reincarnation.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, It's weird I didn't get it Carol. I really was trying, but came up blank.

Solar said...

Carol,

U r taking a lot of liberty with that question thing....hey it could be like..a truth or dare...but for all of us...after I forgot to mention you in the post that I mentioned everyone..I said oops...smoooch (a little kiss) I thought that if you were around you would say something like...are y ou the kiss and tell type.....is all..now you are looking for something else.....but i will try to turn it around...so fire away...ask your question...but then it will be my turn...ahhahaha (laughing like count-Dracsolar...

Coreen said...

I come back & its the Lucy/Desi Show. Was
sending a comment, but I pressed something & lost it all.

I see Solar & Carol explained the coughing joke & the black & white short hair like the kitten.

Chloe, you two are such fun.

Carol's pic is at her 4:02 comment in the blue
link, which I can not figure out how to do.

The scanner is about the size of a stapler.
It works alone, just slide photo through & it is stored on an sd card. (Mine only scans up to 4" tall photos, but the latest version takes
5 x 7 & looks like it is portable) You can
also use it with the computer. I have copied
pics from the 1930's of my mom & her sisters
as well as lots of other old b&w.

The scanner is from QVC & costs about $80, I may get the latest version, just to have an
extra.

Solar said...

Chloe,

Do, I purr, I was going to say..in two languages....what I do is.....

Solar said...

Coreen,

Sure, just have a good ole time....Im still studying you....the thing is that: You are like a sniper..hit and run when you post...

Coreen said...

I can't help it, you two are just so much
fun to 'watch'.

Carol said...

Chloe, You need to go through your how to link things again with Coreen. You need to keep a copy of it in Word so you can just copy and paste every time you need to explain it to someone else.

Solar, don't rush me. This is a big responsibility. You said you would answer a question and I need to think of which one I want to ask the most. You have that contract stated up there in black and white. Now you might be able to find a lawyer close by that might be able to help you get out of that contract. Hummm, I wonder where you might find a lawyer this time of night?

Solar said...

Chlo,

I just wanted to make U laugh a little...you had enough?

Anonymous said...

Oh, so that's how that scanner works. Very handy.

I'll be glad to show you the page that shows how to link her Coreen, but the way you did it is just as good, and pretty much the same thing. The other way can be a bit of a pain.
Here's the link to the instructions, and once you look it over, if you want to do it, ask any questions and I'll be glad to help. It's basically just a matter of copying and pasting what you want to link into the formula they give us, which is on line 4 of the page I'm linking (which says Just type followed by the formula). Once you get it, you can link anywhere online.

Creating a hyperlink

Anonymous said...

Well, good then, I'm a sucker for purring.

Coreen, Be careful if you have any secrets, because once Solar studies you for a while, you won't have any left. He prides himself on character analysis, and doesn't give up until he's filled in all the blanks.

Solar said...

Carol,

Now you R just tying to formalize a wheee little thing that I said.!

Now you have added a layer of paper work to it,,and it looks Legal....your are sneaky..but im on to you sister...

There is no way that I would ask one of you pinks to side against another one here...what I need is some help, from some guy's reading this...any lurker to thee rescue??

Anonymous said...

Solar, No... I haven't had enough.
I did laugh, even before I got it, because of your very funny delivery.

I fell really bad Solar for not getting any of the punch lines tonight. I feel like I'm out of sync tonight. Which isn't all that unusual for me.

Carol said...

You might want to go get Flatus to help you. He seems to know something about just about everything. If he doesn't, it only takes him a second or two to find the answer.

Coreen said...

Ok, printed out the instructions, but so far
no luck with figuring it out. Can you only link to a web address, not like a particular
article such as something in a newspaper.

Do you have to type all those symbols/letters

Carol said...

Did ya'll see on that chart that comes with Who's Amung Us, that the swamp guests peaked out at 12 this morning. It might have just been a boat that overturned but we count them anyway.

Solar said...

Chloe,

I have never tried it my-self..explain it a little slowly for us..step by step..going to see if I can find the print copy of it, that i did the other day..just never took the time to try...

Anonymous said...

Only copy the formula, not the whole page Coreen. Then past it on word pad about half a dozen times, so you can keep using it. The formula is the one that says 'Just type'.

You don't type any of the symbols, you just fill in the blanks. If you want it to link with the url address, and not the words, then paste the address in both places. Can you tell by looking at the formula, where to paste? I can't type the original formula here, because the site reads it as code.

Anonymous said...

Solar, Go to the site I linked and copy and paste the formula (fourth line down, and says 'Just type') on word pad. It's a little strange to explain at first, but once you look at what I'm talking about, and you get it, it's easy from then on out.

Carol said...

Ivy, have you finished checking out the dog treats for ant do do yet? It probably takes a little time.

I bet we have that lurker in Romania and Hungary really intrigued with our intellectual conversations here.

Anonymous said...

Once you copy the formula, which does not include those words just type, but begins with < , then you'll highlight in the formula: web address your linking to, and replace it with the web address you are trying to link.

Where it says 'text you are linking from', highlight the words that I just type, and past over them either text you want to use, OR just type your url address that your linking in that spot too.

Coreen said...

The just type has the 'less than & more than'
symbols to enclose the ahref= & then the web
address in "", are you saying you don't type
the symbols.

Also, I do not use any word pad when I type,
not even sure where that would be since I do not use ms-word for a word processor. I use
wordperfect---its a lawyer thing--we all started with that, if word is on the computer
I have no idea.

Anonymous said...

Carol, Can you think of an easier way to say this?

Solar said...

Had my comp go nuts for a while. Back now.

Anonymous said...

Word perfect will work too.
It's just a place to save the formula, so you don't have to go back and look it up each time.

You're just highlighting the words your replacing with the url address you're linking. All the rest of the formula stays the same.

Just highlight 'web address your linking to' and replace it withe the actual address, but leave in the quote marks.

Coreen said...

the less than, more than symbols enclose like
carol's web address?? then copy & paste the link you want to bring in, but apparently you do not do that in the comments section, but
on some word pad?

Anonymous said...

You're simply removing the words and replacing them with the address that you have copied and pasted. You leave all the formulas symbols as is. Don't add or remove spaces or anything else.

So you highlight what you're replacing, which are the words, and then pasting over them.

Carol said...

Chloe, I just saved that link you sent in my favorites. I keep it up top and go get that example when I need it. I erase the parts in the example and replace with what I want the link to include. It is hard to explain this.

Anonymous said...

It's easier to copy it someplace like your word perfect, so you have the formula, plus the address you're linking to, on the same page, then combine them.

You cold do all of that in the comments section too, but it might get a little more confusing.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I save it in my bookmarks too, but since I can't write the formula here, it's hard to explain.

Carol said...

Actually I copy and paste both in this comment box. I erase and make the change here and then erase the one I don't need anymore. Just a little different way to do it.

Carol said...

I wonder why this google blog can't do it for us like Craig's blog does and emails do.

Anonymous said...

Coreen, Carols web address doesn't go into the formula, just the web address that you linking 'to'. So when you copied and pasted that web address to the accent site, what you would have done is instead of pasting it here in the comments section as is, you would have pasted it into that formula (where it's called for).

Anonymous said...

Then pasted the formula here in comments.

Carol said...

Coreen if you don't want to go to that trouble just paste the address here and we can copy and paste it in our own address bar.

Coreen said...

The web address linking to would be Carols?, then after the more than sign you add the
thing you want to send here?

if you look at the formula at just type
after the ahref=add the address (Carols)then
it says text you're linking from with another
less & more symbol with a slash /a, is that part of the formula too?

Anonymous said...

His people programmed TM to do it for us. Here they didn't.

Coreen said...

So the only web address is the one you want to
bring here, but then do you need the rest of the symbols after the more than symbol

Solar said...

Chloe,

that the first thing that I want to know..do we post that, right here in the comment box..now im being dense...or where do we go to do it..keep talking to Coreen, and I will go from there..probably do it tomorrow.

I just wanted you to know that my computer went a little nuts on me, and I did not hang up on you...don't know what happened OK.

Anonymous said...

Not Carols address Coreen. It's calling for the address you want to link to. The one you copied at the site you're linking to. All those symbols are part of the formula. It's all computer code. Carol used the word erase. You erase the 'words' and replace them with the url address you're linking to.

Coreen said...

I will try to work on it maybe tomorrow, for now, I will say good nite to all, thanks for
trying to explain it.

Anonymous said...

Solar, I know computers shut us down sometimes. Don't worry about it. Yes, you put the completed formula in the comment box.

You can also put the original formula here in comments, and work on it right here if that's easiest for you.

I think I've made it sound more complicated than it is.

Coreen said...

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/25/sports/baseball/25yankees.html?hp

I can't get the symbols to be accepted in the
comment box, keeps saying the tag is not allowed-oh well, I will work on it tomorrow,
good nite again

Carol said...

That wore me out and I wasn't even having to explain it.

Solar said...

No problem. we will get it done...so don't worry about anything at all...I think that Coreen is going to try on her own..now that she has all of the info..and so will i...not so much pressure that way I think...right Coreen?

Solar said...

Chloe, click on my empty avatar box,,wanna dance? thanks for the instructions...

Ok, tomorrow look at this. I replaced the words with the address I was linking here:

"web address you're linking to">

and here, I named what I was linking to:

Oops I thought my dance avatar was up...never mind :-)

I've been enjoying your pictures all day. Your place should be on the cover of Country Living Magazine. Thanks again for such a peaceful scene.
