Emma Nicole Happy Halloween 2009

I wanted to display Emma's cute little Halloween picture, but I don't really have a Halloween story (I'm just 'not' a story teller, but I admire those who are). So, what we end up with here is more or less a definition of the 'meaning of Halloween'. By Christmas, I'll be sure to have some pictures of her showing her 'million watt' smile. It's her crowning feature, but for now, no smile in these pictures. Soon though. :) (By the way, Emma was born 1-15-09.)

Meaning of Halloween
One obvious question about Halloween is, "What does the word itself mean?" The name is actually a shortened version of "All Hallows' Even," the eve of All Hallows' Day. "Hallow" is an Old English word for "holy person," and All Hallows' Day is simply another name for All Saints' Day, the day Catholics commemorate all the saints. At some point, people began referring to All Hallows' Even as "Hallowe'en" and then simply "Halloween."

While it takes its name from All Saints' Day, modern Halloween is actually a combination of several different traditions. In fact, a lot of the things we do on Halloween predate Christianity entirely.

Emma is 9 1/2 months old now, but has no teeth yet. I'll have to ask Nurse Jan about that.

Now I have to go catch up on all the comments on Coreen's post, so I'll be caught up.

Anonymous said...

I forgot to mention that Emma has the 'bluest' blue eyes you've ever seen, shockingly blue. These photos don't show their true color. If you enlarge them, you'll see the blue slightly better, but not even close to the real thing.

Carol said...

She is a living doll Chloe! Someone is going to snag her to be a model. Maybe a pumpkin farm.

Hey, I don't remember saying anything about your being lazy. If I did I would only be projecting since that is how I feel today. I will go back and look.

I've been a little giddy today. The sun is shining and the river is down and all is well with the world.

Carol said...

I came up with some captions for the pics.

#1 What a girl has to go thru to get to the Mall play center.

#2 Where's the kitty?

#3 Well yeah, I'm a little cute.

#4 What ya say, no lunch???

Coreen said...

Chloe,

Emma is an absolute cutie. And she seems to
know those model poses already.

Ivy Green said...

Cute as a bug! No wonder you are smitten. Now we all are!

Coreen said...

Carol,

YOur captions are terrific. Are you a would-be author, I know you mentioned something about
a book a few times, did you write one or are
you in the process of writing one.

Coreen said...

About some of the preceding comments.

Jan, leave gathering for me means they get
blown into the woods, no bagging, no composting
just back into the woods. I only do the driveway, the yard will be done in late November, after all the leaves fall by the
guy who mows the lawn. The property is 3 acres, with most of it woods, so lots & lots of trees surround me & right now the biggies
the oaks are coming down.

Ivy Green said...

Found a picture of my tea pot. You probably have to jiggle with the image (i.e. click to enlarge). lol

Fellow tea drinkers--I really like Bigelow
teas. Earl Grey & Cinnamon stick.

Regular black tea for me daily---Salada, Red Rose, I am not a fan of Lipton.

Anonymous said...

Thanks everyone. And Carol, your captions are perfect!

Anonymous said...

Ivy, That teapot is beautiful.

Anonymous said...

Jan, I saw on the last thread that you were going to go see Amelia or Whip it. Did you by any chance mean Michael Jackson's 'This Is It'? I don't see a 'Whip it' on the movie directory, but then again, some movies do bypass us here.

Carol said...

I missed it too Chloe, but it's there.

Carol said...

Wasn't sure if, maybe, John wasn't trying to pull a fast one on ya Jan.

Solar said...

Chloe,

I usually get one hug on Sunday's.
This time one for each picture: 2 today, and two tomorrow; for sure ok? If you want to throw one in there too I wouldn't refuse it.

I already have a cpl pic of her so I can see the changes..

Anonymous said...

"Hey, I don't remember saying anything about your being lazy."

Carol, You didn't and now I giggling because I said that. I was projecting (between the lines). I've noticed (because when things are in writing, they're more noticeable and hard to deny) that I can often be a little over dramatic. Just keep that in mind. when reading some of the rubbish I leave here and there.

Carol said...

I assume Ivy, that the top of that little pot comes off and you drink the tea out of the cup.

Anonymous said...

Oh, Whip it is there? I'll take another look.

Solar, Those hugs are yours. As long as we get some back.

Carol said...

Darn glad we have of record of what was said here. I do often get accused of saying things I didn't. That's one good thing about writing instead of talking.

Solar said...

Deal.

Ivy Green said...

Chloe, thank you for the meaning of "All Hallows." I meant to share this story before, but better late than never. My first afternoon in London, I was on my own, Hubs was working. A drizzle that I thought was done turned into a fierce driving rain, and I took refuge in "All Hallows Church" by the Tower of London.

I expected to be there for a few quiet all-to-myself minutes, but it turned into a three-hour spiritual journey. First thing I realized was there was a musical recital going on in the middle of a weekday afternoon. Someone handed me a program. I thought, oh no, now I'm going to have to sit here, I can't get up and walk out on a performance. So I sat, wet and shivering, and starting looking up and around at all the beautiful stained glass windows. Then I started to enjoy the music. Afterwards, there was a wine and cheese reception, so I invited myself to that too. Started chatting up the musicians and the other guests as if I belong there too. Then a fellow walked up and asked if I was staying for the tour. "What tour," I asked.
Of course, I stayed, and was conducted on a virtually private tour of what turned out to be the oldest church in London. The guide was knowledgeable except for a few facts about American history, such as what did George Washington do during the American Revolution, but I helped him out on that. Down in it basement, are excavated "catacombs" that go back to Roman times. The bell-tower is the place from which the father of William Penn saved the very church from the Great Fire of London in 1666.

The entire afternoon was a wholly unexpected gift and another lesson to me of what can happen when you open yourself to synchronicity. lol

All Hallows by the Tower

Carol said...

That's a really cool story Ivy. Now I will read about the church.

jan said...

Coreen, how lucky to have all those woods to deposit your leaves. Your place sounds like a little bit of heaven too - like Carol's -

jan said...

Chloe, No wonder you are smitten with Emma - what a doll. Like Ivy said - we are all smitten now. Thanks for sharing pictures of her. You said she is petite too - wears a size 6 months. Children have a wide range of ages when first teeth appear - as early as 3 months to over a year.

jan said...

Ok, did I tell you I am a barber too - John needs a haircut. Back soon.

Ivy Green said...

Oh one thing about Admiral Penn saving the church from the Great Fire of London. Saving the church was not his main concern. His goal was to save the Tower of London. It was filled to the gills with gunpowder.

Ivy Green said...

Another Halloween-appropriate tidbit, as the church in nearest proximity, All Hallows has been the recipient of numerous famous, albeit headless bodies in its centuries-long coexistence with the Tower of London.

Anonymous said...

"The entire afternoon was a wholly unexpected gift and another lesson to me of what can happen when you open yourself to synchronicity. lol"

Ivy, What a lovely story. I'm surprised you never mentioned that day before. The way you just went with the flow is so impressive. And when you did, everything just fell into place. It shows you that we don't have to always be 'in control', but rather just ride out the circumstances, and let things work out for the better,on their own.

What a great way to spend the first day of your trip. Knowing that experience affected everything that happend from there on out.

Ivy Green said...

Chloe,
"Emma" is such a beautiful name...it happens to be true that my great-grandmother's maiden name was Emma Green.

Anonymous said...

Emma Green. Very nice.
Yes, it's an old fashioned name. I like it too.
There was also a movie name Emma, adaptation of Jane Austen's novel. I mention it, because I really enjoy most period movies.

Ivy Green said...

From time to time, I hear vague complaints that we Americans just don't know how to make a "proper cup of tea." This is a myth that should be busted. I had plenty of "cups'o" over there, and I say we can hold our heads up just fine with the Brits. Maybe if any of our lurkers are here, someone may want to challenge me. I'd love to know what is perceived to be the difference...something that goes beyond the fact that a bunch of hooligans in Boston dressed up like Indians threw some crates overboard in protest against taxation. lol

jan said...

Ivy, what a lovely story of your 3 hour spiritual journey in All Hallows..church. What an amazing experience and totally unplanned. Those often turn out to be the best ones. Thanks for sharing the experience with us.

jan said...

Chloe, I love old fashioned names like Emma. I think it is lovely in the old south that people use old family names when they name their children.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
I'm hard-pressed to say what exactly made me feel "spiritual" beyond it being actually in a church. But it did bring together many elements of what makes me feel "connected" and grateful.

All Hallows Church is famous for many things, and one of them is the brasses that are situated near the altar. I didn't realize they are in the floor, and I ended up stepping on one of them before our guide hollered at me to watch out. That was the moment I started learning to say "Sorry" in the British way. lol

Carol said...

I'm working on building a nice hot creamy soup for supper. Soup and salad as a finale to a day of junk fooding it.

Ivy Green said...

That sounds good, Carol. What kind of soup? I haven't figured out what to eat tonight. Hubs is going out and leaving me to fend for myself along with the Trick-or-Treaters. He's afraid of what might happen when they find out I have nothing but Nature Valley Trail Mix bars to distribute. I don't even have any back-up candy...

Anonymous said...

Carol, I'm proud of you for going for the healthy dinner.

It's an indescribably beautiful day here, and I imagine it's the same where you are. You can't even try to explain the ones that look like this. I hate to see it end. It seems to me it's always windy on Halloween, but not today. Will see if it gets that way by tonight.

Ivy, You do know that a lot of those trick-or-treaters may not come back next year. :))
Just kidding.

.. off to a couple of hours of hard labor.

Ivy Green said...

Too funny, here is a link to the shop in Banchory where I bought the tea pot. The store-front window where I spotted it walking past is in the photo. The Internet is just so amazing. lol

Cook and Dine Shop

Carol said...

It's a cream of broccoli and potato soup with onions, garlic, green onions, lactose free low fat milk. Will probably add some cheese of some kind after I see how much the potato thickens it up.

Did Chloe mention if she is bringing little Emma trick or treating or to any parties?

Ivy, I blew up your store front to see if I could find the little tea pot but couldn't find it.

Ivy Green said...

That's 'cause it's in my kitchen now, Carol! Jes' kiddin'!

Carol said...

It could have been in there but I couldn't get a real clear close up Ivy. The pics don't enlarge so I just used the zoom on the computer.

Carol said...

Did ya'll send Craig your request for a signed book plate for his book? I just emailed my request.

Ivy Green said...

No T-or-T'ers at the door yet, and I've already broken into my bucket of Trail Mix bars. Nature Valley is about as close to candy as you can get without the trademark of Hershey's or Mars on it.

Carol said...

"Ok, did I tell you I am a barber too"

Jan you are multi-talented. Many moons ago I thought I could cut hair also. I was a little young and stupid. Not as young as you would think.

Hey I watched my hair getting cut for years and it didn't look hard so I cut one of my niece's hair. She was just a little girl at the time. I'm not sure if she has forgiven me to this day.

Carol said...

I think that is nice Ivy. Giving those little kids something that is healthy and full of fiber and keeps them regular. No s--t!

Carol said...

Ivy, I would dare say that a person who would give Nature Valley Bars would be the least likely to put razor blades in their treats. I bet someone has done a study on that.

Sociopaths usually don't think healthy when picking out their treats.

Ivy Green said...

I rummaged in the closet and came up with the kids' old witch-or-wizard outfit to wear while greeting the kiddies. A co-worker of mine sewed a cape from a notions department pattern. It's black material, I think flannel, lined with red silky polyester. Really, an all-purpose costume. You can dress it up or dress it down. It's at least 15 years old, but none the worse for wear. The pointy black hat is not as old. What was up with the pointy-hats anyway? Whose medieval idea was that style? Surely that was not everyday wear!

Ivy Green said...

I don't know...trick-or-treat could be a bust this year...

Carol said...

I guess maybe if you did some gardening on the side. Might be nice for punching a hole in the soil.

Carol said...

Maybe for aerodynamics?

Ivy Green said...

I better start eating more Trail Mix. If I eat them all myself before Hubs gets home, I can lie and tell him they were a big hit. It wouldn't even be a lie...they ARE a big hit...WITH ME! lol.

Carol said...

Ivy, Do you have your taser gun with you? Pepper spray? Fly swatter?

Carol said...

Don't leave the house tomorrow! Or bring some Depends.

Ivy Green said...

The pointy hats are aerodynamic? I guess they are a variation on the old "flying nun" costume on the TV show with Sally Field.

Ivy Green said...

The pointy-hat is hot! I may have to take it off soon whether or not any kiddies show up. Still nada. Not looking too good. I think I can freeze the Trail Mix bars. If any kid shows up, I will make him take at least ten bars.

Solar said...

Coreen,

I left my answer to your U F O on the last thread. I didn't want to interrupt this one of Emma's with a silly post...

Carol said...

Kinda curious Ivy. Exactly why did you pick out the Trail Mix bars for treats? Did Hubs think you were nuts like the bars?

Carol said...

Coreen, what are ya doing to entertain yourself while waiting for it to stop raining so your game can start?

Ivy Green said...

I think see some golf carts heading down the street. Kids these days don't walk. They drive their golf carts...I am the last house on a cul-de-sac, long way down. Probably too out of the way for them.

Coreen said...

Hi guys, I wasn't going to tune in til after
the game,but I'm back....

What am I doing...being very patient.

No trick or treaters here, no one lets their
kids walk these lonely roads with no lights,
sidewalks, & long driveway. The town has a
Halloween bonfire down at Helen Keller Middle
School.

Coreen said...

Ivy, no trick or treaters yet, did you remember
to leave the light on.....

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
We took Trail Mix bars on our trip because they are easy to carry. When we ran out in Scotland, I discovered they have their own oat bars, called Flapjacks. Not like our pancakes, more like a home-made fruit and nut bar. Trail Mix bars are the closest we have on our side of the ocean. I do have a flapjack recipe courtesy of TM's Jamie. If I ever run out of Trail Mix bars after this Halloween, I will try to make some. Not any time soon, it seems. I think the golf cart was a false alarm, actually the neighbor kids getting home from the hunt.

Coreen said...

Count Dracsolar, where are you....

Big night.

Carol said...

Thank alot Solar. Cheap wine? No. It's Coke. Nothing but Coke, the real thing. And you must have not gotten a good bite cuz those chocolate covered grahams are gooooood. And I'm wearing my garlic necklace that Mary, my sister, made me anyway.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
All the floodlights are on, front and back. I'm sitting in the front room with my cape and pointy-hat. If any kid comes, I will have to pounce like Charlotte on her web when a moth comes!

Solar said...

I almost stole a 5 year old..he was dressed as a little Pirate...I tried to buy him, but the parents wouldn't sell..was going to steal him, but changed my mind...and ate two little snicker candies...

Carol said...

Coreen, look back on the post you did. You'll find Count Dracsolar.

Ivy Green said...

There's a golf cart parked in the circle! Shhh! They're here!

Carol said...

I guess we can't expect a pic of your costume Ivy? Do you have a tripod and know how to use the time delay??

Carol said...

Coreen, that line of showers is almost thru Philly.

Coreen said...

After all these years, now I know, it was
Count Dracsolar....

Carol, he must think I'm a bloody mary, he keeps thinking of me as a celery stalk---but
since I drink Pepsi or Snapple lemonade---I
would have been a less than tasty meal.

Ivy Green said...

They LOVED the Trail Mix bars! Five and six-year olds can't fake spontaneous excitement...

Ivy Green said...

Coreen,
I'd want to be at the bonfire. That's an old British custom. Last week on Gilmore Girls rerun, they did the annual Stars Hollow bonfire. lol

Ivy Green said...

In some parts of Britain, Halloween is less of a big deal than Guy Fawkes Day which is November 5. They light bonfires and burn poor Guy Fawkes in effigy.

Carol said...

Who is Guy Fawkes?

Coreen said...

Ivy, its an annual event---43rd year--by the Easton Lions Club. Bonfire, costume contest,
doghnuts, cider, & apples, bonfire is usually
about 30 feet high.

Ivy Green said...

I hear scary deep voices yelling and running through the yard. The big hooligan kids always seem to be the last group through. I hope I don't have to take off my costume and turn into a real witch. One year I "lost it" after a bunch of mischief makers wrecked my yard decorations. I took off running after them and caught up as they were getting to the next house. I made them give all their candy back and go fix my yard. They sheepishly did it, but I think my neighbor thought I was off my rocker.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
Guy Fawkes tried to blow up King James and the whole government. He had packed the basement of the Parliament building with gunpowder. It was called the Gunpowder Plot. I think the conspirators all got hung, drawn and quartered.

Coreen said...

Carol, first pitch now 9:15. I listen to the
Yankee radio, can not stand the Fox people--Joe Buck is an idiot. McCarver's ok.,but
I mute the sound & listen to John Sterling.

Carol said...

Thanks Ivy.

Ivy Green said...

Coreen,
I guess they'll be there a while. Bet they're glad it's turn-the-clocks back night. They have an extra hour.

Solar said...

Ivy,

Your All Hallows story was very nice, thanks..this was a special moment of synergy I think. You felt one with everything for a little while...nice.!!

Carol said...

Good luck Coreen and Yanks! Sorry Ivy, but one of my friends is pulling for the Phillys so that makes it even.

Coreen said...

Time to go guys.

Ivy Green said...

Coreen,
I do the same thing with Alabama football. I turn off the network sound and listen to Eli Gold on the Crimson Tide Sports radio.

Carol said...

Did Alabama play today Ivy? Must not have since you didn't mention them.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I won't take it personally. Just no bad words today about Coach Saban. Today is his birthday. lol

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
This is Alabama's bye week. Next Saturday, it's them vs. LSU in Tuscaloosa at 2:30 pm.

Anonymous said...

Solar, Thank you for being so considerate, and you are so sweet, but we are talking about lot's of different things on this post, not just babies. So I hope you don't mind I brought that post you wrote to Coreen over here, so no one will miss it.

Solar said:
" Coreen, I always keep my promises...here is you're U F O....the best I can do in a short amount of time. I just sat down and remembered it all, as if it was yesterday.!

It was dark, raining and cold: Just the way that I like Halloween Nights. This is my 200th one and they all seem the same, all blend together into one long memory of my victims. I was looking for my victim, my next meal. Earlier I found some prey that was walking along the streets by her self.

As I approached my prey, she stumbled twice and seemed unsure of her steps..that's when I took her and tasted her sweet nectar of blood..it had been one whole year since I have had a meal. I do not like to make my victims suffer; so as fast as I could, I found the Vein in her neck...It tasted sweet at first..and then I started to gag, and choke....she must have been in one of those Louisiana all night bars, and tasted like cheap liquor ...she tasted like Ripple, and some kind of chocolate covered crackers...I stopped drinking, and was not satisfied...and felt a little tipsy...Ripple. she probably Buys it from WM when not from the tervina's

That's when I saw them; the male called the female Coreen..I said it several times to my self; and decided that she was going to be my next meal. As I neared I could smell the quality of her wine...she was young and healthy, sorta like a celery stalk..but not tall, and short hair.

I did not even pay any attention to the male; I think that his name was Greg, he did not look like much to me and was insignificant, and will not be mentioned again (maybe)...I was concentrating on the sweet red nectar of Coreens blood; and mine for the taking.

I made ready to dine on the pulsating vein of the beautiful Coreen, or was it Doreen??....I still remember one of my favorites from long, long ago Chloe....or was it Chloe...memories all bend together until I can dine on quality. When all of a sudden when I was ready to take her into the night skies with me, a bright lite appeared above them both.

It was the hunters coming for me; they had been dogging me all night. What a stroke of luck, they beamed Greg up into their U F O :-) This all happened in a blink of an eye, and left me all alone and in need to feed......

As I was ready to pounce.......all of a sudden the morning sun was coming, and forced me to stop in mid air. At a 90% angle; I left at the speed of light...leaving little Coreen (is that a name of a song?) for the next time....

Thanks, Solar. I think even you would have enjoyed being in that church. There was so much history there. Really, the entire history of recorded religion in England, predating Christianity. As with many ancient churches, they believe it was built over a pre-Christian worship site. The excavations in the basement would certainly indicate that.

Anonymous said...

Carol, No parties for Emma tonight, because she goes to bed so early. Her mom was going to take her trick or treating with another friend, but she just couldn't stay awake long enough. She's still just an infant, and doesn't really know that much what's going on yet. She did go to a little party on Friday with her mom though, with a few preschoolers, but none as young as her, and she tired out pretty quickly. So not much Halloween celebration for Emma yet, but every day is a celebration for her. As you can imagine, she's coddled over all the time.

"I would dare say that a person who would give Nature Valley Bars would be the least likely to put razor blades in their treats"

LOL Carol. Couldn't you think of anything nicer to say about those Nature Valley Bars than that. :)

Solar said...

Chloe,

Thats such a silly post. I booked this one of Emma.

Carol said...

Well Chloe, you said the kids wouldn't be back next year. I think my comment was more considerate. I was pointing out some important things.

Ivy Green said...

Yes, it seems the witching hour is over. All quiet on the cul-de-sac. Can take the cape and pointy-hat off now. Sorry Hubs was not here to snap a pic...

Ivy Green said...

Wait, perhaps a last treater...one that drives a pickup truck...?

Carol said...

Maybe you could keep on the costume and wait for him to come home Ivy. Does it have any sex appeal?? You know that witchy woman thing?

Carol said...

Be careful with that one Ivy?

Solar said...

Ivy,

I think that you are right, I would have liked to have been there.

Ivy Green said...

I don't even know what time it is, really. I changed some of my clocks this morning, but not all of them. Now I don't know which is which...lol

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
Who knows what time Hubs will be home? He went to the Joe Bonamassa concert...

...this costume better not have "sex appeal!" Both my kids wore it in different variations...!

Anonymous said...

"They LOVED the Trail Mix bars!"

I was just joking around with Ivy, because she kept mentioning them, and was kidding around about her husband not wanting to be there. I thought what you said was really funny Carol.

Ivy, I'm glad the kids loved them, and I think they are a really good treat. They pretty much get the same thing over and over at the other houses. If I were a kid, I would have loved them too.

Carol said...

That was quite a creative story Solar even though I felt a little used and unappreciated. I mean, the girl from Louisiana did.

Ivy Green said...

I did just get a surprise visit from a group of "big kids." One of them was probably driving that pick-up truck. They were a polite group...they were equally surprised that I dressed in costume for them. The Trail Mix bars are getting universal "Wows!" For one thing, they are regular-sized which makes a statement by itself. When I was a kid, we got regular-sized candy bars or M&M packs. Not these itty-bitty ridiculous "fun sizes" you see today. Those are NO FUN...kids want normal sized treats. lol

Solar said...

Carol,

Please don't feel that way. The 2nd part of the story has U as the Queen and has the influence to bring countsolar back into society with the quality of your blood...you were force to drink that ripple at the tavern...hope that clears it up...your "Top Shelf".!!

Anonymous said...

Solar, You have such a good imagination. I don't know how you come up with these things. A great Halloween story.

I remember the one you wrote a while after you came to TM. Do you remember it? The one at the bar.

Solar said...

By the way. I really like someone that tell some-else that something is bothering them, or something is wrong, and gets it out in the open..the faster the better things get resolved...

Anonymous said...

... forced to drink ripple? LOL Solar! Yuk!!

Anonymous said...

Ivy, I didn't know you are wearing a costume. What is it? Do we get a photo?

Carol said...

I might feel a little better Solar.

Ivy Green said...

There's still kids coming...must've have gotten a late start. I forgot to find out what time Auburn was playing today. I'm not an Auburn fan, but there are many many of them in these parts. Each kid must take at least two trail mix bars whether he's a Crimson Tide fan or not...man, it's chilly out there when I swing that door open...glad I'm still bundled up in cape-and-pointy-hat!

Solar said...

Chloe,

That was my first post that I ever wrote..I want to get it at some point and save it. I was pretty nervous...after all of this time...the characters are still valid...I shocked the hell out of Jack...when I said that he was 250lbs and 6 ft 3 he said he never told any one...I figured it out...

I can imagine what you thought about me...you didn't speak to me for a long time.....stuck up :-))

Solar said...

Carol,

Come-on give a Vampire a break will ya. or I will bite you in the --- this time...Im innocent over here it tell ya...I was not myself.!!

Carol said...

How long have you guys been hanging on TM?

Ivy Green said...

Where is this Solar-story y'all are commenting about?

Chloe, I'm wearing a recycled costume that's seen at least 18 Halloweens. It put it together with one of those pointy-styled professor hats like in Harry Potter. I think I look like one of the women professors in the the first Harry Potter movie. I forget the actress's name...she was Dumbledore's confidant. I don't know my Harry Potter chapter-and-verse, like some.

Anonymous said...

I was one of the first people to speak to you Solar. I welcomed you to TM for one thing.

That story was after you had been there a while. The first post you made was something about how you had been lurking (not that word though) for a while, and introducing yourself, etc.

I remember in the story you said that you never knew what to expect from me, so watch out (or something like that). I spoke to you several times Solar, before you responded back.

Ivy Green said...

I think maybe now, all the excitement is over. It should be safe for me to let the dogs out, safe for the kids, that is.

Ivy, the Halloween story Solar wrote is above at 6:17 PM.

Maybe it's the really big kids? Isn't it about time for the grownup parties to get started?

Carol said...

I don't think ya'll mentioned exactly how you found TM.

Anonymous said...

I remember about Patsi reminding you a lot of your sister. I was there a couple of months or so before you got there, but not much longer. But I think you had been lurking for close to a year, and I just sorta dived in fighting. I was angry about the election and the way Hillary was being treated. I think you knew a lot of the people better than I did, because of all that time you just read and observed.

I saw Craig on TV quite a few times Carol, and liked him. When I hear that he posted at CQ, I went over and checked it out. And the rest is history.

"Isn't it about time for the grownup parties to get started?"

Probably so Ivy. And it is Saturday night, so a lot of people are out partying just because of that.

Well, it's time for me to scram.
See you tomorrow.

Nite Chloe.

Thats why that post about "Craigs Tavern" was accurate with the characters.. I knew them quite well before they knew me...i had a little advantage there. You I said that you gave great links and to keep them coming...i think?

Carol said...

Thanks for sharing lil Emma with us. Give her a hug for us.

Carol said...

That was a good one Coreen, a camera home run.

Anonymous said...

Carol, Night to you too. I'll give Emma a hug for you, and I can't think of anyone I'd rather share Emma with than you.

Solar, I think I found your first comment. So the tavern scene would be a short time later. We can try to find it tomorrow, if you want.

I have been lurking for about a year now and enjoy this site much more than i should,I have always thought that Mr Crawford was an outstanding addition to any news show that he was on. I used to watch tv for all my news information, but have not done so for about 5 months now. I come here to listen to all of you, and go to the sites that you refer, in doing so I feel that I'm better informed.I have added these to NPR, JIM LEHER,C SPAN and a few others, so I don't need tv except for breaking news or noise company. I have really enjoyed coming here and have learned a lot from most of you, I even used a joke that was posted (gave CQ credit) it was a big hit. Please stop all the bs back a forth stuff, 2 of the ones that I enjoy are not here, Patsi and 9/11. I have never voted for a D or an R in all my life so you don't have to figure out which side I'm on, as a matter of fact i enjoy your off political topics (i do like political history) more than your constant back and forth garbage. Patsi, 9/11 just ignore that a hole and come back, Jamie please keep all that info coming, have learned a lot from you-love your site too. will keep to mostly lurking, Thank you all.

Carol,

Thanks for the fun: Im sending you out a big hug; with-out any biting...

Solar, When I was looking for your first post (I was very lucky, because I started looking in August, then went forward to September and there it was)I ran across this one too. I remember when you wrote it, and I don't think we were talking yet, but I was really impressed and appreciative when you wrote it. I loved what you said in it:

"Chloe, Rita, Toast,Champ, and others, I see that you haven't learnt how to tag team, as well as the others. Since when does seniority count on a blog? when she get tired, the flying nun will come to police the neighborhood and show Craig that she really really cares, while the point man is shooting at you, and using Jamie as cover. I won't post much cause I don't think I contribute that much, but along with the 5,500 lurkers know the truth, if you can;t ignore them kill them with kindness----yes sir, no sir, yes mommy, no mommy, and the go ahead and give us al that great conversation that you all can."

.. ok, over and out.

You're welcome Solar, but no thanks necessary.

Carol said...

Thanks Solar and Chloe.

Solar said...

Ivy,

Been thinking about you're experience: I think that you had that profound feeling; because of you're understanding and love of History..it all came together for you...for the others there is might have been very nice...but like I said you had a great mental experience...I also think that you being by your-self was the key to it....???

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
You are on to it...also, the fact that I was in need of a refuge, and it appeared at the moment I needed it, and I felt like a "refugee," but I was not only not turned away, I was welcomed and treated like a guest. There is a lot of spiritual symbolism in that.

Solar said...

Ivy,

Thats when you felt humanity at it's best...a complete synergy moment...and like Chloe said you were open to it....

Yes I would have liked to have been there...but that would not be a guarantee that I would have felt the same as you did...but I would have understood it...I think...thanks for sharing that-that is special.!!

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
I know you would have had a great conversation with Robert, the volunteer tour guide. He knew his history of religion and every crevice of that church like the back of his hand.

Ivy Green said...

Robert was prepared to stay there until the cows came home if there had been an unanswered question or unexplored corner of All Hallows.

Solar said...

Im, not against the concept of religion, just that it has be bastardized and manipulated so much that it doesn't have any meaning, other than getting people together to share the right intentions to all...when people say that my religion is the real one, and you can't "enter the kingdom-heaven"

I always tell them; that if the story Of Jesus if true...he died for all of mankind, and not just for you shits...sorry.

I do think that Religion and science could have a place in all of our lives...but tell that to the ones that feel threatened, about losing their members if they did..

Solar said...

Robert sounds like a person that I would have talked to with a lot of respect.

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
I have a keen nose for proselytizing, and if that had been going on there, I wouldn't have enjoyed it for one minute. My background is too diverse to accept anything less.

Ivy Green said...

Oh, the James Cameron movie is "Avatar." I thought they were saying "abattoir." My bad.

Solar said...

Ivy,

Thats why you had that experience, one of the reasons...plus the attitude that you have about not being superior..you have the confidence but not the arrogance of knowledge...can't beat that with a stick.

Ivy Green said...

Thanks for that feedback, Solar. I don't know if I'm there yet, but you give me something to aspire to.

(^_~)

Oh boy, this ball game is going to run into the next time zone...lol

That's why Monks go away for endless years in quiet surroundings..they want to be as one...but they make the big mistake, to make it all about themselves...and fail miserably imo...thanks for the talk..

You guys have been busy on here tonight.
Ivy, you had some T or T's- You should put your costume on and have someone take a pic and post it so we can see you in it.

we saw the movie, Whip It - and loved it. I was surprised that there were families there with young kids. I sat next to a young man about 14 or so. One time during the movie - the phrase "knocked up" was used and the kid next to me asked his mom - "what does that mean?" I recommend the movie. When I was about 10 - in early 1950's there was an small outdoor roller rink downtown in the small town my grandmother lived in (OK) and they had roller derby's there on Sat. nights. I never went but the women practiced skating on sat. afternoons. I had forgotten about that until the movie tonight.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
You know I'm camera-shy...lol

Glad you liked the movie...that's two good reports I've heard...

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
We did get some treaters, no tricksters...but I still have a lot of Trail Mix bars left. I didn't think I over-bought, but still...well, I know they'll get eaten and without as much guilt...

Well I got up early as I expected I would. I forgot to change the clocks, as I expected I would.

I like to stay within the same routine on weekends as I do during the week. Keeps me from experiencing jet lag. I've read that people should do that.

I'm not really that crazy about daylight savings time but then I do get off early enough from work so I usually have enough daylight in the afternoon to do what I need to do.

I don't think they ever came up with any advantage to DST except that the golf industry made more money. Do you think they have enough power to have kept that change around and to actually have expanded it? Lots of rich and powerful people do like to play golf.

This blog has become a kind of reality show with the same characters. I usually don't like reality shows but then I was never one of the characters before.

My sister, Mary, does like some reality shows and she has enjoyed monitoring the blog. That surprised me since she is not one who likes to read on the computer.

Sorry Solar that there aren't any other guys in our reality show. I guess you'll just have to hold up the man end all by yourself. You can do it. And we do let you hold the rule book and that's a miracle especially since none of the rest of us have ever gotten to read it.

Carol said...

Congrats Coreen on the Yanks win last night. They were ahead when my eyelids did their final curtain call.

Carol said...

Chloe, I noticed that we were both working on the material Jan sent us at the same time. I'll let you go for it. I was doing something and thought that I lost the entire draft but it was still there. Blogger does do frequent saves.
