CONNECTICUT IN OCTOBER

Coreen has sent us the most amazing video of the beginning of the cold weather that she took this morning in Connecticut. Many of us rarely get to see snow, so it makes this all the more exciting. Knowing she is taking these photos this morning and sharing them with 'us' makes them even more meaningful.

She's also included some beautiful still photos of where she lives. Coreen, I hope, very much, that you'll fill us in on more about the area you live in. I've never even been to Connecticut, but it's obviously 'breathtakingly beautiful'.

Believe it or not, she said she 'mistakenly' took the video. Speaking of great synchronicity. Thanks so much Coreen!

(I just found out I can't upload the video, so will have to link the video from Photo Bucket. If anyone knows if there's another way to upload a video here, let me know.)

Coreen, Let me know if you'd like me to help you set up a photobucket account for yourself. It's extremely easy to do, and I know you will enjoy it. I put your video on mine this morning, in order to be able to link it here. But you could start a nice album, that you could link anyone to at anytime. It's a easy and convenient way to display your pictures, that you can access at any time by using a user name and password of your choice. You probably saw Carol's, which is a perfect example of what can be accomplished.

Well, I'm taking off for a while. Looks like there aren't many people around on TM either. It's a transition day, I think, with the weather changing and all. But my little hummers sure are active today. I hope the beat the cold weather out of town.

Just dropping in from my office & I found that
Chloe has graciously posted my attempt to share
our first sign of snow in CT.

Chloe, thanks so much for your help.

Carol said...

Wow wee wow! Two new posts today. I came home late from a MONSTER day with my last nerve just about chewed through and to my surprise, two new posts. Now that was a nice transition.

Chloe, you would have to put up a post on procrastination. Does that mean I have to do all those things I was putting off? Oh drats. OK, I'll try to get to a few of them. There are so many that I'm not sure even how to even start.

Thank God, one of them is not writing a test this weekend. Jan, I do remember those days. That can take days. That is certainly one thing I don't miss about teaching. Don't have something old you can drag out of a box somewhere?

Coreen, congratulations on your first post and thanks for sharing the snow pics with us. You have officially paid off your bet but......the Saints are playing the NY Giants this Sunday. Do you want to make a little bet??? That ought to be a good game. What's the point spread?

Come Little Leaves

Come little leaves said the wind one day,
Come O'er the meadows with me and play,
Put on your dress of red and gold,
For the Summer is gone and the days grow cold,
Down they came fluttering one and all,
Over the brown fields they danced and flew,
Singing the soft little songs they knew,
Dancing and whirling the little leaves went,
Winter had called them, and they were content,
Soon, fast asleep in their earthly beds,
The snow laid a coverlet over their heads

Afternoon Ivy. As a treat, I pulled out a couple of fat juicy beef tenderloins to grill tonight. One for me and one for the Magster. She loves beef tenderloin. With the cold weather coming we're going to beef up our insulation, literally. It will give us something to shiver off.

Along with my bacon wrapped fillet mignon, I'll have a baked potato with all the fat I can load it up with and some broccoli, so I can say I did eat something healthy.

I stopped at my house on my way to the camp to get some heavy duty sweats. Tonight has a low of 52 and Saturday and Sunday, 45 and 43 respectively. That may not sound so cold for you Yanks but for us down here in the deep south, that's bone chillin.

And Chloe, I won't be fishing since the strong north wind blew the water down about a foot and a half. My fishing boat is suspended in the air. Couldn't even push it off it's platform to go out in it.

Carol said...

And Ivy, I see all those little leaves dancing and whirling out there on my cement deck. This weekend I will be blowing them one way and the wind will be blowing them back.

A friend of mine traveled through your area the other day and she was telling me how beautiful it is over your way. You need to be sending us some pics from your area.

Coreen said...

Consider today's effort an extra, my pleasure
(but could not have done it without Chloe, she is a treasure) still working on getting some autumn leaves color for you, but couldn't resist the sudden snow falling this a.m. My surprise was the video that turned up--didn't know the camera did that, that's why its so short.

Ivy, lovely tie in from fall to winter, may need that poem again in the not to distant
weeks.

And though not a NYGiant fan, most of my friends are, I'll stick with loyalty to the ny teams, all I can say Carol is -----Eli's Coming!

Not sure what the spread is, will listen to the
FAN tomorrow & let you know, I think the Giants
+3, but not sure.

Carol,
Our weather has been dismal this week. I'm ready for a little sunshine.

Ivy Green said...

I would think the sugar water is a bit chilled, but my little hummingbird is hanging in there. She ran off her competition and has had the place to herself. I can't help but wonder if this premonition of winter will prove her curtain call for the season.

Carol said...

We'll take all you can give us Coreen and I'll research the point spread.

Ivy, it will be better tomorrow. The sun'll come out tomorrow. Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow there'll be sun. Just thinkin' about tomorrow clears away the cobwebs and the sorrow till there's none.

Carol said...

Sounds a little familiar huh?

It's only a day away.

Got a new Sat morning pic.

I'm thirsty too

Carol said...

The pic.. that's little Clotel Robicheaux. Lil cajun anole. No kin to the detective.

Carol said...

Do you know why our cajun french names often have an X on the end? I was told that is was because when families signed on the church roster they put an x by their name. Most were illiterate so they couldn't read or write. The x eventually got incorporated in their name. Interesting huh?

You know Carol, for some reason Houton is staying a little warmer than Louisiana this weekend. It was 77 and sunny today. We haven't had much wind either. The winds where I come from were called the Santa Ana winds, and after being around them all my life, the winds here in Houton don't even rate (unless there's occasionally some hurricane weather, then those come from all directions).

It's 'supposed' to be 75/52 tomorrow and 72/52 Sun. Then by Tues. 78/68, so I figure we got off easy. I always use the Yahoo weather, because it's usually pretty accurate. Since we're North, we will probably be a few degrees (2or3) cooler, but it's going to be sunny, so I won't complain.

How was your and Maggie's steaks?

Coreen, I sure did enjoy that video today. I've actually viewed it a few times.

Ivy, You haven't said anything about your kittie, so I assume she's doing fine. Hope you'll show us a picture of her at some point. Better yet, you should take one of you guys trying to give her meds to her. A video.. with sound. Ha!

Chloe,
Ha! I wouldn't want to further humiliate poor Miss College's Cat by videotaping her suffering. We have been using the "towel-wrap method" of constraint...sort of like a straight-jacket. She may never trust a towel again. I hope we're getting enough meds into her, but it's hard to say. Only time will tell.

Ivy Green said...

Secrets of the Lost Symbol? Did I miss a show? We've been engrossed in watching the History Channel...retrospect on Lincoln assassination. Booth birthplace in Maryland is a site I once commuted past daily.

The program...."Human mind has power over matter." Maybe my thoughts put that snake on my roof? I had been talking about my snake killing just before snake comes tumbling off my roof, which was a very strange occurance. No more thinking about unpleasant things.

Brown's new book didn't get very good reviews. I liked Da Vince Code. Anyone read his new one?

I'm getting kind of itchy to get one of those Kindles. I like the idea of being able to search the text of a book. I was trying to find something I remembered reading in a book the other day and couldn't find it. You can do that can't you Ivy?

Think positive for Kitty or should that be for Ivy.

Carol, do you remember this song on Monday mornings in 1971?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUEhjIuz5n4
My first time to try this - so hope it worked.

Carol said...

That was a good try Jan but you'll have to go back to the drawing board or to Chloe, which ever is closest.

Carol said...

I can still use it so let me see if I remember it.

Carol said...

Yes, I remember that song. I think it was raining Monday but not today. Cripsy out there today. I walked outside to see how cool it got and didn't need to. It was just as cool right inside.

Carol said...

Jan you were always more the intellectual, and crafsy kind of person. You never really liked technology. That is what it is with people, it is whether you like technology or not. Not whether you are good at it or not. If you don't like it, you won't be that good at it.

Kind of like that procrastination. I procrastinate cuz I just don't want to do it and I'm the boss of me. Well, not exactly, but I want to be. I don't want someone else telling me I gotta pay those bills and do stuff I don't want to do.

Carol said...

And your right Chloe, I'll plow up the north 40 to avoid something else I don't want to do. I'm not lazy. Well, occasionally, maybe.

Carol said...

Where did you go sister? Too early to work on that test. Gotta have a little "you" time. I'm trying to help you with that procrastination.

Carol said...

I went out to check dragonfly thermometer and it is 56. Not bad when you can come back in and get under the heated blankie with a hot cup of coffee. Wouldn't be good at all if this was a work day and I had to go get in the shower. Shiver me timbers.

Carol said...

Chloe, I think that procrastination is mostly a control issue. We all want to be in control and I know you have a little problem in that area also sister.

But a little problem occurs when we procrastinate, it zaps some of our power. One of the offerings at a nursing conference I attended many moons ago, was on power. They said that unfinished circles in our lives, things we should do and haven't, zap our power and energy. I think that is right. I have lots of unfinished circles and sometimes I am feeling pretty whooped because of them.

I does feel pretty good and invigorating when I finally knock out something I've been avoiding.

Just getting a late start here on a crisp fall
morning. Maybe I'm procrastinating too.

Carol, I did not play any sports growing up,
I did learn to golf, even had a hole in one,
just once, the weekend after I took the bar
exam. A big surprise since I never was a good
golfer! My friends said that was good luck that I passed & they were right, I passed on the first try. Haven't played in a very long time though.

As far as a sports fan, really a New York Yankee fan, first & foremost, but do know a little about the other NY sports teams.

Some of my friends were into sports so I learned from them.

Carol said...

Good morning Coreen. If you get outside early, you may be able to catch the sun. Wait and it will be raining later.

Carol said...

Today is a good day to make a hearty beef vegetable soup. Slow cooking will warm up the kitchen. We don't have any natural gas available out here but will after I make that soup.

I have been putting off my morning exercise this am...is that procrastination, or is that im making a choice to not stay healthy...

Coreen,

A hole in one.! I have been golfing my whole life..came close a lot of times, but no cigar, Im green as an avocado with envy over here ...nice going...

Well I managed to get one gym shoe on...it i can get the second one on...im on my way...i think...maybe the second gym shoe won't fit me today.....

Carol,

You must be watching the radar--since the sun
has faded away--& rain is just about moving into CT.

I know you are in Louisiana, but are you along
the gulf coast west of NO or inland?

If it is really chilled at your river home, could you & Magster stay at your other home during your 'fall/winter' months?

Coreen said...

Solar,

Don't be too envious. Luck had everything to do with it. I was just happy to hit my 5 wood
in the air, straight & when it hit the green &
rolled in, I didn't even see it, since I was
picking up my tee! The 2 friends with me started yelling it went in the hole!

I had not played all spring, studying for the bar exam & then the weekend after the exam played for the first time. That was in 1980.

The funniest thing about that day was by the time we started up the 13th hole, everyone on the course knew I had a hole-in-one. By the way, I played at a public course & knew just about all the regulars who played there, so it
was amazing that they all knew before we finished--& yes I did get to pay for drinks for
everyone there (mostly regulars hanging around,
but they only served beer so not too costly).

Funny, how you remember the facts of events like that so clearly.

Oh, & before I forget ---- celery??,I'm probably more like we call it(finooch) you may call it fennel the celery like veggie that tastes like licorice! Not tall at all. and mysterious, more likely reserved than mysterious.

Catch you guys later.

Carol, still procrastinating - have not done the test yet - woke up at 3 am with nothing to do so started playing around with "You Tube - I have never gone in there - found Carly Simon - one of my favorites - singing "Let the River Run" I was dancing all over the room. also looked up Les Paul and Mary Ford - my dad loved them when I was growing up so I knew all their songs. I played around with you tube for 3 hours - my husb was sleeping downstairs - he said he heard the house vibrating - thought it was the heater on - came up to investigate - joined in to dance with me - at 5 am. We went out to son, Bill's house to watch OU play Texas -John and I in Orange and my 2 sons and their wives in red. John and I just got home. I am going to bed.

Carol, listened to a bunch of the Carpenter's music. I remember every Monday when we drove to Pineville - we listened to Carpenter's, Rainy Days and Mondays.

Carol, a great day for stew or soup. I don't like to turn on heat until I really need it so I have little quilts I wrap up in.

When I turned on my computer and logged on my page came up different. Looks like it is for people with visual loss. I did update my Internet Explorer before I closed down. I can see everything well but it looks like it is stretched horizonally. Weird.

I don't see our little pics either and don't look to me for answers. Chloeeeeeee.

Carol said...

Coreen, I live about 60 mile north of the Gulf and about 60 miles east of Texas. It seems cooler out here on the river because there is no wind break for the north wind. Whistles right through here.

I don't want to move back home. My home is only a little over a mile from my camp but all closed in. My bedroom has French doors and windows in the back and looks out to the back yard/pool but I don't hang there very much. I want to stay here where I feel like I'm outside all the time, like Chloe says she is.

I learned to play golf at age 50. I took some group lessons with a younger friend who wanted to learn to play. I did pretty well and could have been a good golfer if I had started young. People said I was a natural.

The big problem is it takes a lot of time, time that I don't want to commit to it. I do like it very much. It's nice to be out with nature and it is not a strenuous sport unless you are doing something wrong, which I often did. On one swing I actually felt my shoulder pop out of socket and pop back in. I definitely did something wrong with that swing.

Another time I think I broke a rib with a bad swing. Now that I have those three semi-jacked up thoracic compression fractures in my back, I wonder if I could still even swing a club. Maybe, if I have a bone left standing when I retire, I will try to pick it up again.

Anonymous said...

Carol, I am 'definitely' no expert on these computers, but have spent a lot of time the last few years experimenting with them so have experienced some of the same problems as others. The page not showing our pictures, or any other discrepancies it may have, is not a problem for us, but rather a problem with the site (Blogspot). It's been doing this on and off the last few days, but I never mentioned it. I thought it was strange that no one else had mentioned it, but like Solar and Ivy said, just wait. Don't worry about it and eventually it will be ok. I'm sure they know they are having a problem, and there's nothing we can do anyway.

Regarding your stretched page, the first thing I would do is reload the page, and if that doesn't work, I'd restart the computer and see if that does it. (It almost always does)

Ivy, I think if you'll right click on that odd message at the bottom of your screen ( I think you said it's an exclamation point, which shows an error or some kind of incompatibility)... when you right click it, it will give you choices, and one of the choices should open it for you, and tell you exactly what it is. The choices vary, but on the drop down menu it gives you, choose one ('open' for instance) and it will tell you exactly what problem it's talking about and what to do to solve it.

Jan, Thanks for linking Rainy Days and Mondays, (and congratulations on getting that url copy down), I like that song a lot..

I'm glad to hear you've been enjoying yourself instead of working on that test. I was feeling guilty for talking about procrastination, afraid you were turning into an 'all work and no play' person.

I 'think' that you were dancing in the middle of the night, because you feel good because you made the decision to retire. (Ha, maybe you've been procrastinating, and then finally did it). I think the good feelings you're having are because you know you did the right thing.

Anonymous said...

Ivy, I forgot to mention that after you 'right click', you'll then need to 'left click' one of the choices it gives you. You may need to experiment a little. Never be afraid to do that. It's the only way to learn.

Rut rho, it's cybergremlins at it again I guess. Girls, I went to Lowes and bought one of those balloon hummer feeders and another cheap one without a perch. I think I'm just about ready to start up a hummer bed and breakfast. Also picked up some flowers to plant. Need some winter color.

I kind of went on a shopping frenzy today. I went to Harbor Freight, that store with lots of cheaper junk. I was looking for a new indoor/outdoor thermometer. I purposely didn't get a basket so I wouldn't go nuts getting a bunch of junk I didn't have room for or need. Didn't work. I was having a time balancing all the junk I picked up and getting to the register without dropping it all.

Found this cute three piece set, a little glass hummer, butterfly and dragonfly, solar lights. They change colors. Couldn't pass that up, could I? Got a few new cool tools, couldn't pass them up. Almost forgot the thermometer.

The girl at the register said, "got a little more than you expected huh?" Busted.

Carol, I saw your post on procrastination, and I agree with all those things you said, including that you think it's a control issue (which I think most of us have). I mean who doesn't want some control over their life. But, I believe when we procrastinate we're showing we're 'not' in control, and that's what causes our anxiety. 'If' that unfinished business is zapping our power (like you said) and robbing us of our energy, then I think that it's caused by frustration. I mean a lot of those unfinished things are things someone else is requiring us to do, or things that we think we must do to satify someone else.... or, something we need to do in order to get something we want or need. It's not something we want to do because we find it enjoyable obviously, or we'd be doing it. The frutration we feel, is proably merely caused by guilt. That, and the fact being, we won't get what we want unless we do it (example: we won't have a clean house, unless we do the work and clean it. Therefore, if we procrastinate and don't clean it, we'll feel guilty, and probably embarrassed if we have company, and also worried that we may have company. It goes on and on, until we finally figure out it's easier to just clean it and get it over with.) Once we do it, we are releaved of that sense of 'DREAD' we've had, while we were putting it off.

'Course, what do I know about it. I'm the one with the problem, so I'm the last person you'd ever want to ask for advice about procrastination.

I warmed up my hummer feeder this morning, but I haven't been around to see how many birds I've had. It was active this morning though.

How'd your soup come out?

"I have been putting off my morning exercise this am...is that procrastination, or is that im making a choice to not stay healthy.."

LOL Solar! Not exercising one morning is NOT the same thing as making a choice to not stay healthy! MG. It could just as easily be a choice to give yourself a well earned rest, or a choice to do something else other than exercise. There are an unlimited amount of things you could decide to do, of which most of them would have nothing to do with not staying healthy. (Have you heard how many people die while they're exercising) Exercise is a very good thing, but you can be healthy without too much of it too. I'm living proof. :)

.. man, I'm wordy.

Thanks,,it was just a little joky.

I do think that part of procrastination, is a part of making us slow down, and take it easy...a protection it it sort of speak, that is natural,,,that why we all do it...but some take it further than intended...and it becomes a habit,,and lazy...

Anonymous said...

I knew it was a joke Solar, but I just decided to run with it. Remember though, procrastination is not the same thing as laziness. Laziness means you don't even think about doing it, or intend to do it, so you're not putting it off.

Hubs was outside when a gaggle of girls from our street came by. "Can we have your leaves?", they asked, seeing we had leaves scattered from one end of the yard to the other. "We're building a pile in our yard, and we don't have enough."
"Sure," says Hubs. "Take all the leaves you want!"
He came inside to tell me, and said they were gathering leaves with a broom! Do you know how hard that is?
I said, "Maybe you should go back out and let them borrow our rake too?"

That was a stroke of luck Ivy. I have lots too and a rake, do they have a car?

Ivy, cute story. Wonder if their parents know they are draggings into their yard LOL.

I am back for a minute - had a 2 hour nap to make up for missing sleep this am. I feel dopey now, and hungry - so I will return later and see what's going on after I get something to eat - I am not going to cook, off to gather something - you know thats what we gals are - gatherers.

Chloe & Ivy, I am reading that book by Jean Shinoda Bolen - about her midlife journey. She is great. We have also bought 2 more of her books - John just finished one. Reading her book is like taking a journey myself. Right now she is in Scotland. She leaves me wanting more.

Back in a bit.

Chloe, so glad you like Rainy days and mondays too.

Carol, there was a singer and song that was a fav of yours in early 70's. Cant remember which one - do you remember?

I grew up with a singing and whistling dad. I was his oldest so spent lots of time with him in early years - he sang, whistled or played music all the time. My name, Jan is actually for a male bandleader of the 1930's or 40's - Jan Garber (I think I have spelled it right). I need to Google it.

Back soon.
