What about Sarah?

We needed a new post this morning because we were in the rollzone. That is when the comments go over 200 and it takes a rocket scientist to find the latest ones. I only have a few minutes and Sarah is an interesting topic for conversation these days.

I like her. She's an attractive women and that always helps. Attractive people catch your eye. She does seem real. I was impressed when she took on her own party while running for governor. You don't see too many people bucking their own party these days unless it is for personal gain and I don't really think her's was for personal reasons. She probably never thought she'd become the governor.

And being a govenor with a family and all those kids just ain't easy. Then having a special needs child really puts it over the top. She's been made fun of every which way she can be made fun of and let me tell you, what they do to her, they do to many of the rest of us women. Watch out people, one day women are going to realize their power, we'll get really tired of putting up and shutting up and wham, we'll just show ya.

And as for that stupid what did you read question that Katie asked her, that all the media thought was so funny, this is what I think. Well, being a govenor, with a large family, and still trying to enjoy a little of life, when in the hell do you have time to sit down and read??? I can't find any time for that and I don't have a family.

And my advice for Sarah is.. just talk from your heart and soul. Don't try to follow some party line. That's what will get you in trouble.

Sorry, I got up this morning in a pissy mood and this is what came out.

Well I survived the night cell phoneless. I can't believe it was only a short time ago when we didn't even have these devices and now I panic when I'm out on the road and forget mine at home of when it breaks.

And where were you with my smoke signal help Rez?? Being cold here, I coulda sent some smoke signals to Mary and to work to tell them I'm not on call tonight anymore.

A lot of people have a number of old cell phones because they change cell phones like they change purses. For both, I wait until the one I have become non-functional before getting a new one.

I need to just buy a backup for emergencies. My last three cell phones met their demise by river, by dishwater, now by sauted asparagus. I almost licked this last one off because I didn't want to waste any of the sauce I had with my asparagus. I couldn't eat it because my teeth don't handle crunchy too well anymore.

And here's to Todd, Mr. Mom at times. It's a tough job, physically and mentally demanding. Men could have the advantage there.

It is a noble calling to take that role in the family. It's the toughest job but never has gotten the recognition it deserves because women usually did it.

And in nursing, the profession didn't get the respect or financial compensation until more men started getting into it. It ain't because they made it better because I often witnessed some of those men getting other women to do thier work for them while they sat with their feet propped up on the counter pretending to be Doctors.

Having more men in the nursing profession, who were often expected to bring home the bacon, slowly improved the salaries. Women just put up with the rotten salaries for years.

At the risk of getting you in a worse mood,
as far as Sarah Palin goes, I have no interest
in her whatsoever. Her book, her potential
future, whatever.

She is a media sensation, & will reap the monetary benefits of the spotlight she has
been given, good for her, but I did not , do
not & will not buy into her fame & fortune.

As far as her appeal, whether she is real or
whether all her persona is a creation, if you think she may be like your neighbor (as so many of her awestruck fans are saying) surprise, surprise, I don't want any of my neighbors to be President, or for that matter, vp, governor.

Her book, I wouldn't pay for it, would not
read it, end of story.

Coreen said...

And as far as the pay differential for women
in the workplace, today some 40 years after
women struggled to gain recognition for their
accomplishments in their chosen fields, the wage gap continues, since women still earn only 77.8 cents on the dollar, to that of men.

I love it when we get in great discussions like this one. I do admire Sarah for her commitment to her family. I think the fact that her daughter got pregnant as a teen is not a bad reflection on anyone. I think that can happen to anyone. My biggest critique of this is that the GOP and all the right wingers have put millions (maybe billions) of dollars into abstinancy education for teens - and guess what folks - it was a complete failure. I have not read Sarah's take on the abstinance education fiasco - but she certainly supports the right wing GOP.

The only time I might buy Sarah's book is at a yard sale - I love to recycle.

jan said...

It might be fun to take bets on how long it takes for Sarah's book to be found at a yard sale. Don't know how that could be monitored.

jan said...

Carol, when will you be back from Houston? Are you going to write us from Houston?

jan said...

Well, as usual I am on her alone. I just watched Scott Hamilton skate on the Today show. What an inspriration he is! Since winning olympic gold he has had a pituitary tumor. He started out with a walker on ice but soon was doing jumps and turns and one back flip which scared me. He said the tumor aged him but he decided to skate again so he could get in shape b/c "I want to see my son grow up." Brought tears to my eyes.

jan said...

I neglected to mention that he skated on the Today show this morning.

jan said...

OK so I said he skated in the first sentence. Should read my own comments.

By the way Carol, I like your new post. We need some controversy on here once in a while.

Ivy, what an inspiring story of the lady and the coins.

"I have no interest in her whatsoever. "

LOL Coreen, telling it like it is where Sarah Palin is concerned. Good!

I have no interest in her either Coreen, beyond the ridiculousness that so many people are obsessed with their 'hatred' of her) I don't get it. I wouldn't read her book, because I don't have anything I want to learn from her - she has a completely different belief system.

But! I do think she has every right to do what she's doing. Go for it, as far as I'm concerned. I noticed you didn't accuse her of being stupid, illiterate, or having a shrill voice; to name a few of the things I've heard from others - you didn't make it personal. I think that's the main thing that is making her popular, people seeing her as being mistreated (maybe they also like that she annoys their competitors/opposition so much). Just like Carols (was it phone man) said last week, that he doesn't want her to be president, but he'll read her book and sympathizes with her because he thought the media and others had been too hard on her.

To me, it's not about her. It's about what she represents: which may be a little different to everyone. Some may think the criticisms of her are misogynistic, arrogant and unfair. That alone pushes them toward her, whether than away. There's plenty that can be said about her lack of qualifications to be president, without making it personal.

Solar, I didn't see you here before. I just came back with a joke to leave here for you, that I got in my email this morning. Just copying and pasting, so not much chance of me messing it up:

Only in Texas:
A lawyer runs a stop sign and gets pulled over by a sheriff's deputy. He thinks that he is smarter than the deputy because he is a lawyer from New York and is certain that he has a better education then any cop from Texas . He decides to prove this to himself and have some fun at the Texas deputy' s expense.

The deputy says,' License and registration, please.'

'What for?' says the lawyer.

The deputy says, 'You didn't come to a complete stop at the stop sign.'

Then the lawyer says, 'I slowed down, and no one was coming.'

'You still didn't come to a complete stop, Says the deputy. License and registration, please.'

The lawyer says, 'What's the difference?'

'The difference is you have to come to complete stop, that's the law License and registration, please!' the Deputy says.

Lawyer says, 'If you can show me the legal difference between slow down and stop, I'll give you my license and registration; and you give me the ticket. If not, you let me go and don't give me the ticket.'

'That sounds fair. Please exit your vehicle, sir,' the deputy says.

At this point, the deputy takes out his nightstick and starts beating the daylights out of the lawyer and says, 'Do you want me to stop, or just slow down?'

I'm going to go over to TM to see if I can catch up before I leave. Lot's of reading today, everyone's been talkative. That's a 'good' thing.

"I save on the neurons thata way..hahha."

Solar, Good posts on TM mix. This one caught my eye, because last night I read the most interesting article on the brain development. I was looking for one on infant brain development, to get an idea how long the brain takes to mature, so I have some idea when Emma will be responsive to different things.

I ended up reading every word and had forgotten how much I used to read about the brain. One thing that it says, involves the conversation you and I have had several times about 'free will', or at least that's the way I see this statement:

"One may ask about the affect of genetics on brain development. There is mounting evidence that early experiences can dramatically alter the way genes are expressed in the developing brain. Good experiences help any brain develop well."

Now, of course you know me, so you'll know the part I'm focusing on is this: "There is mounting evidence that early experiences can dramatically alter the way genes are expressed in the developing brain."

Anyway, I think this article, although very basic, is extremely interesting and easy to understand. Again, a 'good' thing.

Carol, Amygdala (which you nicknamed Amy last week, when we were talking about it) is also on the diagram on that link. I remember it went over my head at first, but now I can't even remember why we were discussing the Amy(gdala).

'Course, I guess that stuff is all real familiar to you, with the amount of teaching you've done.

Ok, you want lawyer jokes, Chloe, well try this one.

The CEO of a large company is interviewing
3 candidates for employment, a lawyer, an
accountant and a statistician.

He asks the accountant this how much is 2 + 2.
the accountant, says well looking at the balance sheet, debits & credits, I would have
to say two plus two equals four.

He asks the statistician how much is 2 + 2.
The statistician says after collecting and analysing the data, I would have to say two plus two equals four.

Now comes the lawyer, the CEO asks how much is
2 + 2. The lawyer, looks around the office,
gets up, closes the drapes, makes sure
the door is closed and turns to the CEO
and says.....How much do you want it to be....

Solar said...

Chlo,

That is an excellent article, thank you.

"Many entrepreneurs have jumped onto this bandwagon and are offering new "gadgets" or "educational systems" to make "your baby" the smartest one yet. How do we decide which is important and which is just a gimmick?"

This is the stuff that im against..not the opportunity for corps to make a buck, but the opportunity to sidetrack a really important study...

I booked that site. I never thought that information like this would be fun for me..that is to understand what, and who we are via this type of information..

cpl this with other sciences and it all becomes an understanding (somewhat) of most things that life offers...Like I said....There are only two basic type of feelings....Joy; and sorrow...the different degrees of each is what we experience on a daily basis...

Coreen said...

And Solar, you still haven't told us what your
time travel adventures would involve.

You could give us a whole post on just that.

By the way, I was a pretty good dancer, I had
a couple of really good partners, alas, as I told you awhile ago, being the Black Widow, three of them are really dead....And two of them could 'lead' real good...

Anonymous said...

"There are only two basic type of feelings....Joy; and sorrow."

I'm sure you're right Solar, but still, I have trouble thinking of it that way. What about contentment (would that fall under 'joy'?). What if you 'feel' hungry, is that sorrow? When you eat (from hunger) is that joy? Don't most feelings come from some basic need? All any of us want, is to fell ok, or maybe even to feel great now and then. It doesn't really take that much to make us happy. But it all starts with our control and manipulation of 'our' world. Which is different for all of us.

But when you think about it, it fits the idea of two basic types of training and learning, which is 'reward or punishment'. Everything involving those two things is just on a sliding scale. Trade offs.

Anonymous said...

"you still haven't told us what your
time travel adventures would involve."

That's right Coreen! That is going to make such an interesting Post Solar. I can't wait 'til you do it.

"Many entrepreneurs have jumped onto this bandwagon and are offering new "gadgets" or "educational systems" to make "your baby" the smartest one yet."

BTW Solar, I'm not interested in making Emma the smartest baby ever. I only interesting in making sure her needs are met, making sure she's healthy in both mind and body - giving her the 'opportunity' to do what she wants to do. I'm not talking about 'educational systems' though. I do like to make sure she has the appropriate toy that she needs to develop her skills, but there are lots of other ways to do that too.

It's all about happiness as far as I'm concerned. Although happiness will most certainly include self actualization.

About dancing...I used to love to dance....and when I go to weddings where all of me friends are, or some of them.. we still do quit a bit of it...

liked doing anything that makes you move...but sometimes didn't mind the slow, cheek to cheek ones either....

My Sister Maria, used to tell me, that if I knew how to dance pretty well, most of the gals liked that-that was true, and watching soap operas (one life to live) was also...

Anonymous said...

"How much do you want it to be...."

Ha Coreen! I love that joke.
That's 'exactly' what I'd want to hear from a lawyer.

I didn't think of the one I posted as a lawyer joke. I just love the punch line at the end. It may such a visual, and left no doubt in my mind about the difference in 'slow down' and stop was.

Chloe, Thank you for sharing that site about brain development. It is great information. I sent it to my pregnant granddaughter. The language is a little technical for some of the families that I work with, so I try to break it down into specific "what can you do with your infant/chid to help him grow to be the best s/he can be." I tell them that from the beginning your face is what they most want to look at. Hold them, love them, touch them as much as possible. Read their cues as to what they need. Pick them up when they are distressed. Let them know you are there whenever they need you. Take them out into the world and share all the things you love with them especially those things in nature. Tell them the names of everything. Let them see, hear, touch, smell everything. Be their interpreter of the world. Talk to them from the first moment you know you are pregnant. Read to them every day - anything- language and your voice are what are important.
This is a little long, but this is what I tell families.

jan said...

Solar & Coreen, I loved both your jokes about lawyers. Almost everyone in my husband's family are lawyers except John. He said he is the "black sheep" of the family. He is a retired Epis priest.

They all love lawyer jokes too.

jan said...

Chloe, interesting about all feelings breaking down into either Joy or Sorrow. I have not thought of it that way - but it makes sense. Do you suppose that merely contentment might be middle ground?

Over at TM, Solar, you mentioned Elizabeth Warren, someone who has been on the radar of just about any attorney that has even a passing familiarity with bankruptcy law.

She is a real woman of substance, who has beenfighting for the little guy long before these
pols, ever gave it a thought, & it wlll be interesting to see if Obama, Inc. really pushes
the Consumer Protectiion Agency that she has
championed.

Here's a pretty good writeup about her at Bloomberg. More people should be gaga over
her rather than a light-weight like Palin, sorry could not refrain from that little slam...

Elizabeth Warren-Winning means you won't sell it if you can't explain it

jan said...

"Many entrepreneurs have jumped onto this bandwagon and are offering new "gadgets" or "educational systems" to make "your baby" the smartest one yet. How do we decide which is important and which is just a gimmick?"

Solar & Chloe, all of these gadgets and educ systems are unnecessary. All parents need are a willingness to spend the time to interact with their children.

I knew that, I was just using that part to say how I find corps as parasites is all.

Yes all of those things that you mentioned ,and the ones that Jan mentioned also are part of 'joy & sorrow.

Everything is in that scale that you mentioned...there are only degrees of each.....sheer happiness is sheer joy.....sheer pain, is sheer sorrow..all other things fall in between...

That's why I say that if you really want to make someone happy...make yourself happy, but not in a selfish way...

Im never any happier than when my son is happy..or any one in my life...yes we all can be a little envious at times of others..but it depends what it entails imo...if it is about a bigger house, money etc..than it is destructive...

if it is about having a happier life that some-others have...that's not so bad..I envy Ivy's travels...

Yes Jan, You may be right about that. Contentment may simply be telling us we are doing things just about right. Contentment probably keeps us on course. There's no better feeling than contentment, in my opinion.

Chloe,

From that article, and from many other sources that I have read: That the mind is being formed from the time of conception or near that time....

and is-the mind open to all of what it can learn (mostly) in the first few years..and then starts going south after wards..still learning but, we do start to lose neurons...

what Im against is the early indoctrination of these young minds by the parents that are in one religion or another...that makes the little ones converts...don't want to start anything here..but....

Yes Solar, I remember. I'm the one that can't quite comprehend it, but you have a better idea of why it could happen. I had a good passage on it ready to post earlier, but I thought you had left, so I deleted it. But this 'How stuff works' site helps me a little, because it makes things so easy to understand, for a beginner, like me.

""It turns out that, in some sense, we are all time travelers. As you sit at your desk, doing nothing more than clicking your mouse, time is traveling around you. The future is constantly being transformed into the past with the present only lasting for a fleeting moment. Everything that you are doing right now is quickly moving into the past, which means we continue to move through time." http://science.howstuffworks.com/time-travel.htm

.. then it goes on into a lot more detail.

Boy, or I mean boy and girl, there is a lot to read here today. Ya would have to do it on an evening when I have so much to do to get ready for tomorrow.

Haven't read too much yet but first response was ME OW! Just kiddin.

I'm not sure if I'll get Sarah's book, I have too many in a holding pattern to read right now but if a cheap one shows up I might get it or I might not. I'll also read the reviews. Not interested in the political stuff. Would be more interested in living in Alaska.

And I wasn't promoting Sarah for president and I really don't think she will run. I think she would be better off just having some fun and making some money.

Of course, it will all depend on if she ever runs, who runs against her, what she evolves in to, what she decided she stands for, what the issues are.....I am always open.

I was depressed and distressed with the last president and not terribly impressed with the current one yet.

I obsolutely love Ms. Warren and have since the first time I saw her move her lips! I mentioned being impressed with her a long time ago on TM.

Well I went to the cell phone store at lunch. Took almost 2 hours out of a very busy day. I still did get thru all my work today.

I ended up getting an i-phone. I have 30 days to decide if I like it and I got a GPS option on it. Also 30 days for free. I used it and it brought me home.

I can also use it to keep in touch with the blog so I don't have to carry my laptop. I think it may even have a laser on it in case I get assaulted. It ought to for the price they scalped me with.

Well I need to get some work done and will come back to check out the posts and the links. Too bad I'm not going on a bus. That would give me some time to catch up.

Carol said...

And my pain is still there. It settled in my left butt cheek. I think the problem is that my frame was not approved for the extra weight I'm now carrying. I have gained about 10 lbs in a couple of months. Need a serious diet and fast. Just cutting out the 50 snacks I eat every day would help.

jan said...

Carol, I bet you are going to love your iphone. A woman I work with has one and she loves it. Maybe it was meant to be that your cell went out last night, Maybe some divine intervention. Now you have the GPS and get a good chance to try it out. I think all of us here on your blog will rest easier knowing you have some good technology to get you where you are going tomorrow.

Solar said...

"It settled in my left butt cheek."

pic please.

jan said...

Carol, I can't believe it - you actually have put on some fat somewhere. I will have to see it to believe it. We won't be Mutt and Jeff anymore - maybe Jeff and Jeff or Mutt and Mutt. On the other hand, you probably are not any shorter and I am sure not getting any taller.

jan said...

As Solar says so eloquently above - "pic please"

Solar said...

Chloe, Lucy, Gracie, Honey , sweetie,( throw in whatever works in here____)...I didn't mean it really...Im innocent over here...the Diablo or the capt. made me do it.....

Solar said...

Jan, U funny.!

jan said...

Did anyone see Modern Family last night. There were 2 episodes on. I love the Gay guys. They are a hoot. I especially liked the part where Mitchell takes the tower the other kid built, moved it over in front of his kid, and then found out they were being filmed. That is something that would have happened to me.

Carol said...

Solar which pic do you want, CT scan or MRI?

Jan I might be catching down with ya. I did lose about 1 1/2 inches when I sandwiched those three thoracic vertebrae.

I'm afraid I still have the appetite of hyperthyroidism and the metobolism of hypo. I was afraid that would happen.

Jan, I enjoyed Modern Family last night also. I have seen all the episodes but have watched a few a couple of times on ABC.com. If you missed any go there. They have a great cast and the writers are great.

Solar said...

MRI please...more details no? Jan wants one too.

Anonymous said...

Carol, I think it's great that you got the iphone. I'd still take my laptop with me though. But that's just me.

I sure would like to see you while you're in Houston, but I don't know how I can, with Emma on the schedule she's on. I usually don't go any further than a half hour away from home, and even that has to be inside a very small time frame.

How long are you going to be there, one night or two? Are you're classes all day Friday and Saturday? And make sure you let us know when you've arrived safely.

Oh, and is Maggie staying with Mary?

Anonymous said...

Carol, That iphone is touch screen, isn't it. How do you like that part. Is the internet very fast on it?

.. sorry, I seem really full of questions tonight.

Anonymous said...

I bet the GPS on that iphone has live update too, and takes you around traffic jams and accidents. Lot's of those down in Houston. It'll probably take a while to learn what all that phone has, but I've heard their really nice. You might want to get a car charger for it, if you didn't already.

Anonymous said...

Solar, I think the Captain and I need to have a talk. Can you set up an appointment with him for me? I guess you know what we'll be discussing, huh?

Anonymous said...

.. time travel Solar.

Coreen said...

Before it gets too late, just wanted to say,
Carol, enjoy your trip to Houston. If the traffic is anywhere near what we have between
CT & NYC, patience is always a most needed virtue.

Don't know how far you & Chloe will be, but think it would be great if you two actually met, maybe that gps can map a 1/2 way that would work for both of you.

Solar said...

Im on E-mail alert all day-today.

time travel..ok..going to get it done..I don't agree with that link that said that it can't be done...won't forget to post it. along with a pic or two if I can find a cpl of interesting ones...

The Capt...said, sorry, that it won't happen again.....on his watch...

Solar said...

Carol, Tale care and be careful..but have a good time...like Chloe said..take the laptop with you just in case...I will have this post ready by the time you get back...

Coreen said...

Solar, whether or not time travel is a possible or not, still interested in knowing when, who, where you would travel to if you could...Anyone else weigh in as well...

I'm still thinking about that, really don't know what I would choose.

Carol said...

Last night while I was ironing, I was pondering Coreen's question of who in this world I'd really want to meet. It was an easy answer, I'd really like to meet all of ya and reunite with Jan!

Solar said...

Coreen,

Same here, that's what is the hardest for me...there is some cool info about it..but I have narrowed it (mentally) to a few people that I would want to spend time with....I have never thought about this...probably will come to me..when im thinking about something else...happens all of the time when Im out on a run, or on the treadmill.

Coreen said...

Oh, Carol, please don't misunderstand, when I
was talking about time travel, I was concentrating on past & future exclusively, not present.

Believe me I would be pleased & honored to
meet up with all of you...& hope that at some
time that may even occur....somehow...

And since you mentioned meeting, the other day when I was trying to think of something to brighten your day, I thought since next week is Thanksgiving & maybe if any of you would want, I could try to set up a phone call between us, I know how to get 2 others on one call, & would be happy to get as many of us on a call as possible...just a thought...

And p.s. you iron, thought my best friend & me were the only people left that still iron our clothes...

Ivy Green said...

I-R-O-N-I-N-G???? Wha...?

Carol said...

Coreen, I iron every day except maybe on Sunday. I don't like wrinkles and if I could do my face I would.

Carol said...

I did tell you about the time I ironed my neck. Purely an accident.

And Coreen as Solar reminded us, the present is only a moment, then everything moving forward in future.

Ivy Green said...

Downy Wrinkle Release and "smoothing over" is as good as it gets around here.

My grandmother's phrase for ironing was "rubbing off." Back in the day, even the bed sheets got a "rubbing off." I think that was before synthetic blends.

A friend of mine used to work voter registration "L.A." (i.e., "lower Alabama"). Their makeshift tables were ironing boards. Don't you love that?

Carol said...

Anybody remember the days we ironed our hair? I had long hair back in those days and even though mine wasn't curly, it was wrinkled so I ironed it. You had to put a piece of paper over your hair so you wouldn't burn it.

Ivy Green said...

You know I have to find a poem...

Ivy Green said...

Ironing

I have ironed my husband's shirts, oh, very smoothly;
I wish I could as easily erase
His frowning, worried look of inattention
I can not read the new lines in his face.

Mary lets me iron her crepes and laces;
I wonder if she thinks that Mother's hands
Would tear the fine-meshed fabric of her lovedream?
I wish she knew that Mother understands.

Jack likes the finest nainsook, trim, athletic,
Next to his skin. Most finical of men,
How can he bear to waste his time on Gladys?
I wish he were a little boy again.

Oh, well! My task today is just the ironing;
But while I iron, I can not help but pray
Dear Lord, please let me smooth my loved ones' pathways;
Please do not let them drift too far away!

~ May Willams Ward.

Carol said...

Looking forward to that Ivy.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I never had to iron my hair. It's always been flat and straight as a board.

Ivy Green said...

I do remember when unironed ironing was stored wet in the freezer until ironing day.

Coreen said...

Never ironed my hair, & never ironed bed sheets, & with the new high thread count now...they are really wrinkled, even with lots of Downy.

Nice going Ivy.

Carol said...

I just wear a blow job now. My hair Solar. I wash it and blow dry it.

Ivy Green said...

The iron, heavy, I drag
Back and forth, back and forth.
The most wonderful gift, but
Timing is everything.

Two years, quickly pass,
She is a stranger to me,
But I have little time to notice.

She is my perfect child, oh,
To love her properly all over again!
She is alone, in the dark, scared.
I assure her that it will all be fine,
And as perfect as she is, never complains.

What price must I pay to win the love,
Of my so distant, sweet Emily.
Nothing I have done justifies,
My poor upbringing.

As I stand here ironing,
It hurts my soul, to drag,
Back and forth, the destructive
Iron. The iron which crushes my
Sweet child.

I was never there,
To ease her pain and sorrows.
I never saw her life escaping,
My loving touch. I merely saw
Myself, ironing, dragging slowly across
A wooden board.
She deserves more.

I iron my own shirts, pants, everything..even my jammies; have no pics...

Carol, thats what I mean: Sometimes it gets down right uncomfortable in here.!

I think that I have my who; what; and where question now..my great, great, Grandparents came in a close 2nd...lots I would like to ask them.

Ivy Green said...

I send Hubs's shirts out 'cuz I can't lift heavy starch.

Carol said...

Yes Solar, there are things I'd like to ask mom if I could. After you lose your parents, you will continue to think, I'll call mom and ask her but you can't anymore.

Sad pome Ivy. With this economy these days, I bet there are a few people out there who wished people needed someone to iron again.

Carol said...

Chloe still up? What time does the traffic going into Houston get bad?

Solar said...

Had one too many great in there..in our family, there were so many secrets that I did not know until recently, and still have some important questions...that would fill in a lot of blanks...

Even know how to sew..learned in the Marine Corps..believe it or not

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
When I lived there, traffic into downtown started at 5 am. It's got to be worse now. Worst commute evarr!

Carol said...

Well, I ain't going to beat that.

Anonymous said...

Carol, I just saw your question about when the traffic is bad in Houston, and I had to laugh. It's 'always' bad. But they do have the normal rush hour times, that are probably around 6am-9am. The problem is, when there are this many people driving in one area, there's bound to be accidents and traffic jams, which can extend out the rush hour. But you may be lucky, and hit it on a good day or time.

There are some pretty pushy drivers here Carol, and lot's of 18 wheelers all day. Down where you're going, there's also a lot of one way streets.

Bottom line, Houston is a huge city, so expect lots of traffic all day long.

Anonymous said...

You're right Ivy. It's worse now than ever. They're constantly building new roads to try to keep up.

Anonymous said...

Carol, I just checked. It's supposed to rain tomorrow (and probably tomorrow). It's going to be colder too: A high of 65 and rain again Saturday. Of course, the weather here is almost identical to yours.

"I do remember when unironed ironing was stored wet in the freezer until ironing day."

Ivy, I remember that - except ours was stored in the bottom drawer of the refrig. I did a lot of the family ironing as a teen.

jan said...

I never ironed my hair either - straight as a string, my mother used to say. My mother had a beauty shop and always permed my hair.

jan said...

Solar, a man after my heart - who does his own ironing.

jan said...

In quilting, one has to iron. It is part of the process. I don't mind ironing at all.

One thing I love about Albuq. With the mountains on the East and the old volcanos in the West, it is difficult to get lost for very long.

Morning peeps, Just got out of the shower and still trying to wake up. I went to Craig's place and saw a little Keith. Yep tht woke me up. My heart is pounding a little. He cleared my sinuses.

He's again making fun of what Sarah reads. She just mentioned the Wall Street Journal, her local newspaper and one online spot she read. Evidently she's had a long time to come up with an fancy smancy answer to that question and she didn't seem to embellish the answer.

And Keith's still making fun. And the smug way he does it. Go to TM, watch the video, you'll see what I mean. Keep it up Keith. The more you trash her like this, the more I like her. Stand behind me Sarah.

He must spend all his day just looking for stuff on Sarah to make fun of. Makes her pretty important to ya, huh Keith.

Not good to mess with me when I have to get up too dang early in the morning. I'm just pissy enough to wipe that smug look off your face Keith, in my fantasies.

Craig did mention that after having a year to think about an answer, Sarah didn't come up with an impressive list of what she read. I just love Craig, he is such a fair guy and to still do it when he's stuck having to talk with Keith. It takes talent. That's what made me love him in the first place.

Poor Craig is stuck with Keith and used to be stuck with Imus also. Not two characters that are tops on my list for their respectful treatment of women. But he does it with grace and charm.

And Craig knows he has a bunch of tough broads at TM who will get em if he's not careful.

Well I'm off and a little late, but who's taking roll call and will turn me in?

Ivy Green said...

"Once when I was in Houston, I got on one of the freeways and could not find my way off."

Jan,
I avoided freeway driving as much as I could for that very reason. I didn't want to have happen what happened to a friend who came home once and announced to her husband she discovered there were TWO Astrodomes!

I enjoyed your morning post Carol. You kept me laughing with all that stuff you said about Olbermann, and telling Sarah to stand behind you. 'Course, I always enjoy your morning posts (and the rest too).

Back to my office. I finally have the place; time; where, and who. Will work on my time travel as soon as I get back from getting first hand information...sorta eye to eye with_______he is the person that I would want to meet the most.......can you wait a few more day's or so?

Anonymous said...

Solar, I really didn't mean to pressure you or hurry you on that time travel post. When I said 'time travel Solar' last night, I was making a little joke about sending you to the moon (because you said I was a notch off). Sorry that it's so hard to tell when I'm kidding around sometimes. If it sounds mean Solar, then I'm joking. I could never be mean to you.

Solar said...

Chloe,

I never take it that your being mean to me, or anyone...I didn't take it that way...yes sometimes our meaning of what we want to say it a little off; when we post it...but that does not happen very often...

My above post was supposed to tease all of you pinks a little ...I just have to think in what order of info that I want to post..and should have it later, or tomorrow...

Coreen said...

The anticipation builds......

Carol said...

Jan, I'm not impressed with this I-phone. Shoulda brought my laptop. Have 30 days to decide if I like it. The GPS didn't start working until I got almost to Houston.

Ya'll will like it cuz it will limit my writing.

Anonymous said...

Carol, The hotel's usually have a computer room where you can spend time (usually on the first floor. They may even have a lender laptop. (?)

I have an Instinct phone, and I never bother with the internet on it - I don't like it either. I have a phone with lots of goodies, and all I do is make and take calls on it.

Carol said...

I'm having a bad case of operator trouble. Can't even operate my room key today. Only works for cleaning ladies. Even flunked coffee pot. Guess I need to get out of the swamp more often.

Chloe I might still be driving around if it weren't for the GPS. It was a good idea.

jan said...

Carol, so glad you are staying in touch. Sorry about your yuccky weather. Wish I could send you some sunshine - we have more than we need here. Some days I long for clouds.

We just went to Costco and looked at phones- I don't think I would use anything but the person to person calls. I don't text or use a phone for anything else. There was this really nice guy behind the desk showing his really fancy schmancy phone with TV and everything - but I just don't care.

jan said...

Ivy, that Houston road trip was many years ago when I had hormones - I remember cryiny. Now I would probably just get off somewhere and have a cup of tea or an ice cream cone and figure out what to do next.

Women's Lib

A male friend, an Engineer at an aircraft company, works for a women supervisor. An active member of women's lib groups, she often shows up at work wearing buttons featuring feminist slogans. One day her latest button, "Adam was only a rough draft," proved too much for my friend. The next day, he showed up sporting his own button: "Eve was no Prime Rib."

Carol said...

Good one Solar.

Mary said...

Solar, I need to remember that one. That is too funny.

All my phone does is take and make calls. I don't even pay for text service. I had the chance to upgrade a few months ago and I could have gotten the IPhone for cheap but instead I got a plain ole phone.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
You're posting from your one-day new I-Phone?? That's impressive. I try not to get new stuff for the simple reason it takes me weeks to figure out how to turn it on. I had my coffee pot for two weeks before I got it out of the box - I'm intimidated by new technology.

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
Your Adam-and-Eve joke is lol.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
You must live not too far distant from the Imus Ranch, I'm guessing? I knew nothing about Imus, except that he was a creep, until I was no longer going to work every day. Then I started seeing him in the morning by accident because the channel was left on from the night before. I thought, "Ugh." Then I started hearing him speak about his addiction and recovery, and learned about his work with the sick children at the Ranch, and realized there's a decent human being underneath that show-business facade. I still don't like everything I hear from his mouth, but I know most of it is "acting."

Ivy Green said...

Coreen,
Did you figure out what was the "Over The Rainbow" version you heard on Imus? I didn't hear it, but I'm guessing it must have something to do with his friendship with Tim Russert because they played that song after the rainbow appeared at Tim's funeral.

You better be impressed because I will be blind after a few more minutes of doing this

Actually had it been me going on that trip, I would have brought my laptop because I would have been afraid the "new" IPhone might not have worked. I don't want to say I have bad luck with new purchases but I will say I now give other people the money to go buy me something new just so it will work.

Carol said...

I'm doing this to punish myself.

Coreen said...

Good evening all...

Carol,

It seems that your learning curve is improving
just since I came in... only tried an iphone
once, thought it was pretty interesting, but
way beyond my attention span, much too much
to figure out...my cell phone, (pardon me, smartphone, cellphones being so yesterday), is always dead in my pocketbook, since I don't
remember to take it out to charge it.

And honestly, I don't even know its phone number.

Carol said...

Ivy I went and got a burger to go but by the time
I got my room key to open the door it was cold.

I am familiar with it...my favorite version of that timeless classic. No doubt the Imus connection is to mark the opening this week of a display of Tim Russert's office in Washington DC.

One of the past American Idol contestants, Jason Castro, did a reprise of it on the show.

Coreen said...

As far as Imus, no in betweens, you either enjoy him or you hate him...

Have been listening to him for so many years,
long before the TM gang came across him (which
I think was as a result of Craig's being a regular guest)...

Imus was on NYC radio way back in the 80s, maybe earlier, on the nbc station 66, that became wfan(the sports talk station) long before he was on msnbc. Howard Stern & Soupy Sales were also on nbc then. He can be pretty
funny & pretty abrasive, abusive, so you have to decide whether its worth it to listen..,

Honestly, since the Rutgers fiasco, he is so much more 'toned down, he's just not the same.

In fact, he was a huge supporter of Pres. Clinton in 1992. He had Bill Clinton on his radio show during the 1992 primary & really introduced Bill to a lot of people.... but then he was invited to mc some DC show (forget its name...& lets say his humor in front of Pres. Cllinton & Mrs. Clinton did not go over well...they had a real falling out & from then on he has taken lots of shots at both of
them.

Coreen,

You are absolutley right about Imus. I heard of him from time to time..but got to know him and sorta liked him when I started watching him on msnbc..I liked some of his humor, it seemed very....

male like..im used to hearing...but he did often piss me off, when he went overboard with his talk about women, and other things.

I dislike that punk Berny, and would let him know how much..the others (Charles ) and the music jokey were ok tho. He did have a well written show...having $ can help.

I always wondered about his ranch for kids...I liked him and his wife for that..but later on thought that it might be a good pr front, and a good tax write off against his earnings??? but he and the others are tough guys...don't like though guys....I liked that crude Howard Stern better...never listen to him..but he alway went against the grain..and that I liked him for..

Carol,

Sorry your having so much trouble..but...M___le; Try to enjoy the time out of the swamp a little..relax, we will still be here.....any male escorts around there...one of them might like to play nurse :-))
