Reasons to be thankful

Thanksgiving, an American tradition, a day to give thanks and express gratitude, so for those who gather here, this is my tribute to you.

For Carol, who has welcomed us all to come and ponder at her exotic and beautiful 'swamp' along with her sister Mary and of course Carol's beloved Maggie......

She has made us feel comfortable and welcome, so that it is a pleasure to stop by.......

And here comes Chloe, with her precious Emma Nicole, she is always ready to extend a helping hand and helps keep this place together........

Along with Ivy Green, the world traveler, who has a gift
of finding just the right poem to brighten the day......

And there is Jan, who has provided us a glimpse of the land of enchantment, along with John
and Lobie......

And then there is Solar, our traveler through time, who not only engages in thought provoking
discussion, but remembers to make us smile and laugh, sometime all at the same time.....

And with him he brings some of his pals, Don,
aka 6p......., who is a wonderful source of knowledge of so many things, and even from
coast to coast, Solar's pals Rezdog and Tonyb, may jump right in when you least expect them.....

And for myself, I'm always thankful for my family, my friends, my home, I am truly a fortunate one, and to have been welcomed to this place, I am also thankful.....

So to all those who drop by, thank you again, and Happy Thanksgiving.

Coreen,
That is such a nice post. Thank you. I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Have to finish getting ready for work but I'll be popping in and out. Thanks again.

Carol said...

Awwwwh Coreen, that's so special. I loved it. And I'm already looking forward to your next Thanksgiving post if we pick up a few more friends..

And you pointed out that we cover this country from coast to coast, east and west and north and south. We surround this country with love. We are a diverse group. We all met at TM because of our love and concern for this country and it's people.

We are all thankful for our freedom and opportunities. We are thankful to our military for their sacrifices, and hope they soon get a break, hint, hint Obama.

Carol said...

And Mary, in case you didn't notice, class must be out for the holidays. That unnamed city in the center of the map is down to one again.

Carol said...

And who is the fine kitty saying Happy Thanksgiving at the end of your post Coreen? You need to put a little more volume to her because I had to strain to hear her.

Carol said...

And after that friend's video Coreen, we might pick up a few more guys here even though the four guys that we do have can more than hold up their end. You couldn't find any more perfect guys to represent their gender.

Carol said...

And I am so thankful to Craig for giving us the opportunity to meet each other. He's the man. Thanks you Craig Crawford and Trailmix!

Carol said...

Oh and BTW, I made the coffee. Rub the sleep out of your eyes and grab a cup. I have hot water if ya want tea.

Coreen said...

Glad you enjoyed it. I enjoyed making it.

And I could not say it better, Carol, so I will
just second your thoughts:

"We are all thankful for our freedom and opportunities. We are thankful to our military for their sacrifices, and hope they soon get a break, hint, hint Obama."

Carol,

That little kitty, is a special one. She is our
Fluffy.... She kept showing up in my yard last fall.. One day as I was coming home, I saw her crossing the main road & knew I could not leave her to fend for herself, so she became a member of the family....

Coreen, What a wonderful Thanksgiving Tribute. It's so touching, and a perfect way to start the day. We are all so thankful for you too Coreen. Hope you have a happy, happy day.

Oh, and fluffy is beautiful. She's lucky to have found you, and she is a perfect example that our 'reward' for good deeds are built in. Thanks for sharing her too!

.... from the last thread:

"I freaked today because Iphoney said "no service". I called At&T and they couldn't find what was wrong. I told the girl I talked to there that if she didn't fix the problem she was going to be on call all long weekend to take care of 1300 inmates. She got the problem fixed."

I don't think a day ever passes, that you don't make me laugh.
Sometimes we have no choice Carol, but to demand that people do their job. Where there's a will, there's a way. (Speaking of which, you 'must' see 'Blind Side'. Sandra Bullock plays a person that 'always' takes charge.... gotta love her in it.)

"I'll be around tomorrow because wherever I am so are you,"
.... no wonder I'm never lonely. :)

ps 1300? I didn't realize you had such a big population at your prison. No wonder you're so busy.

Chloe, On Bill Moyer's Journal one night, I heard that the US had the highest incarceration rate in the world with about 1 in 100 population incarcerated. It was a short time after that that I read in our local paper that Louisiana had the highest incarceration rate in the US with about 1 in 50+ adults incarcerated. I was shocked.

Another thing. It was not my idea to start this blog. It was synchronicity.

Jamie planted the seed shortly after I first joined the Trail. She asked if I had a blog and I thought, now why would I want to have a blog.

Then Kim Kamando, a weekend talk show host of a computer program, mentioned that it was easy to start a blog and she recommended Google blogspot. I heard it on my way to WM to grocery shop. That same night I came here and started this blog. I had no idea of why I was doing it but now I know why.

Yaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnn, Blerb,
Er, Morning all. Thanks for the coffee, I may need a whole pot this morning. I stayed up too late last night.

The turkey is in, which may be the first time I've eaten before 6 pm in years. Anyone want me to make them a plate? I only bought a 12 lb'er this year but there will be plenty.

Wow Carol, The highest prison population in the world. I did a search for what it was in Texas, and the first one that came up is what you heard on

"Washington, DC - 02/28/2008 - For the first time in history more than one in every 100 adults in America are in jail or prison—a fact that significantly impacts state budgets without delivering a clear return on public safety. According to a new report released today by the Pew Center on the States’ Public Safety Performance Project, at the start of 2008, 2,319,258 adults were held in American prisons or jails, or one in every 99.1 men and women, according to the study. During 2007, the prison population rose by more than 25,000 inmates. In addition to detailing state and regional prison growth rates, Pew’s report, One in 100: Behind Bars in America 2008, identifies how corrections spending compares to other state investments, why it has increased, and what some states are doing to limit growth in both prison populations and costs while maintaining public safety." http://www.pewcenteronthestates.org/news_room_detail.aspx?id=35912

It undoubtedly was synchronicity Carol, but it was also 'your idea' too. Do you remember saying to me a while before you started it that we should start a blog and I said no. I'm so glad you went ahead and did it on your own. You're a creator Carol, that's all there is to it.

"Thanks for the coffee"

Did you notice I made Kona coffee this morning Don. Delicious, huh?

Save me enough of that turkey you're making for a sandwich, would you. I just put in my ham too. We always eat our big meals around lunch time, so I always have to start early.

Anonymous said...

You know Don, if you want something closer to your own id, you can probably get don.1.one, or some variation of your name with the dots in it. At least that usually works for me. I assume don1one is taken already (as your old id?) right?

Anonymous said...

Hmmmm, I love kona coffee. When I'm in Hawaii I always bring back bags and bags of kona coffee cookies, the perfect compliment. They always seem to be gone too quickly.

I bought a 12 lb turkey this year after my mother complained about all the meat left over from a 20 lb. I figure where else can you get that much meat that cheap, and I use if for everything.

Then she went out and got a ham. Now this is just for the two of us, so the next thing I'm looking at buying is a chest freezer.

BTW Carol, you know you can put some ads on the side of the blog and make some of the local riffraff earn their keep don't you?

There's a big debate going on about any connection between the large incarceration rate for non-violent crimes and the use of prison labor by large corporations. Makes for a nice pool of slave labor, not to mention profit for the private companies that run some prisons. I noticed that Pelosi put in threats of imprisonment for not paying into the health care plan.

Carol said...

I don't think people should be put in prison/jail for not paying for health care but everyone should pay something for it even if it is a couple of dollars. Anything obtained for free is not valued. Most people who don't want to pay for health care will gladly pay a fortune for a cell phone or other luxuries.

Our inmates often are those who don't value health care. They use ERs for their little stuff. They never pay for it and are irrate when the jail requires a $5 fee to come to medical. Of course, if they have no money, they still can come but if they get some money on their books, it is taken. I've even had some inmate who will send in an indogent inmate to try and get what they need so they can avoid the charge. I've been in correction's medicine long enough to learn most of the tricks.

I've had some inmates who refuse to come to medical to get treated for blood pressures of 200/100+ because they want to keep their money to buy chips or other junk. I try to educate these inmates and sometimes it sticks.

Here is a new one I just had this week. We called in an inmate because he sent a letter to medical asking to be moved to another cell. He listed some good reasons for the move. We usually don't accept medical requests thru the jail mail, they have to hand the request to the nurse when she passes every morning and for good reason.

We called this guy down and come to find out, he never even sent in the request. Someone forged the request to get him out of their cell. He said that he snores very loud and someone wants him out of there. Now that was a first for me.

Coreen,

A most excellent post. I often wonder if I can get you to laugh out loud....now I know.

Just saw something on CNN that made me smile; I think that you will too.

There is a Judge that just erased 295k dollar mortgage that some lender (west bank) refused to negotiate for a homeowner that was in foreclosure..after months, and months of giving false reasons for not re-negotiating with the home owner..the judge erased the whole amount that they owned...and then had some pretty hard words for the lender...now that is what I call an activist Judge no?

See you all later, or tomorrow. Have a great time today.

Coreen, are you going to be affected by the nor'easter? It's going to get to about 36 or so down here. I'm trying to keep the place as warm as possible.

rain tonite & Friday, windy, rain & colder, but not cold enough for snow...but today turned out really great, especially for the end of November...

You are already colder there then we will get
the next few days...I hope you can figure out
a way to keep you & Maggie warm.

If someone wants to put some coffee on I've got some Bailey's Irish Creme in Caramel. It's really good.

Coreen said...

Hi Don,

Maybe just a little sip, while I watch Paul McCarntey.....

Coreen said...

But Carol would have to get the coffee ready since I am the non-cook, barely can boil water...

Carol, is that ok with you?...

Anonymous said...

I see YouTube is going to stream Alicia Keyes' concert on Dec 1. I don't know if anyone saw the U2 concert but it was streamed in HD and the quality of video and audio was exceptional.

What's with this sip stuff? Lets skip the coffee and just mix kahlua and Bailey's 50/50. It's a holiday. I'm afraid my turkey got a lot more wine than I did.

Coreen said...

Now I will date myself, but when I used to hang out while in school, use to drink black
and/or white russians, not sure, but I think
it was kahlua & cream...it tasted like a milkshake....& the place was called Bunyans...

Only someone like me could press some buttons &
eliminate the sound within a day, & it really
sounded good before I did whatever I did....

Coreen,

Thanks for that link...I thought that they would be a appealing...I would argue that they had no guidelines about it..and so it stands..at the very least, What I think will happen; is that they will get to do a re-fi or something..?

But it was a nice gesture any way..and maybe will start a new conversation about the abuse...wish that they would use this story 24/7 like they do some accident cos some dummy passed a red light...

I know someone that does software for mortgage companies. The same people that created the mess are cleaning up in the bailout, and operating so illegally they're short term fly-by-nights.

Could be a driver problem or an unseated card.

Solar said...

Coreen,

That is why Im always telling the people at tm...by the time that argue the box scores of politics...the politicians are doing something else...they have to keep their eye on the ball...and not the slight of hand...they are making a killing cos we are too busy talking about what Palin said in her book, and why she would not say anything important.....meanwhile...they slip another one by us no?

Hey did you have the chocolate canoli?

Coreen said...

"and maybe will start a new conversation about the abuse"

From a Long Island attorney's bankruptcy law
blog: "What is important about this case is that it illustrates the changing tide against mortgagees, lenders & banks. Whereas years
ago mortgagees got away with murder, now judges
won't tolerate any improprieties."

"The judge determined that the lender engaged in “unconscionable, vexatious and opprobrious”" conduct

Audio cards are pretty simple. There isn't much that can go wrong with them.

In winter dryness, make sure you're grounded some how when handling them. It's amazing what a zap your system can take even through touching the keyboard.

I think the distraction is the right vs. left bickering. What's really happening is that the rich are robbing us blind. It's not a right or left thing. But the more we're distracted by the bickering the less chance the robber barons get noticed.

That right...and they are way ahead of us..like some say over at tm..they play chess..and we as a whole; are playing checkers..

I do know this..the middle is going to be built up...there is so much abuse...that it is in plain sight now..and people don't like it when they are made to look stupid..

Coreen said...

Solar,

"vexatious & opprobrious"

intended to harass & shameful as in conduct...

Gosh you guys are correct. While they have us looking to the right and to the left, they are standing in front of us, picking our pockets. I think even the MSM is helping them.

Solar said...

Yep, them the words....

Carol,

,It's the "good-cop; bad-cop routine" They have us talking about Palin; and her family..Clinton and her Family. All the while..they are passing new laws..attaching pork to bills, and, when they are talking about one thing...they are doing another..in other words..we are alway's behind..no one is even thinking about what they are not telling, doing, until it's to late...and then they let us play the blame game..all over again...I have been screeming this all year..and im tired of it.....all we do; most times is to play it as a team sport..there is only one people that looses..the bleacher bums....the players ( R's and D's they never loose..sooner or later..the other side is up to bat)..and we alway's wait for the next season opener.....

I don't think our new prez is any different than the old one. They say the Repubs helped the rich and accuse the new kid of just wanting to help the poor but I don't see any of the poor who are any better off. He just tells the rest of us to go volunter. He's just as interested in helping the rich as the last guy. I think we've been had.

You know how predictable we are?
When Joe Leiberman switched over from being a Dem, and ran as an Independent...he was elected..how did he know? He knew because we are so predictable..

that he gauged it, and used a little mathematics of polling...any time that im polled I give them the wrong info or give them such a hard time..that they are glad to get rid of me...

What you don't know who President bush is.....No is he that Rock band...the singing bushes...Obama...what you saying about my Mams...they know they have been had...I try to keep them on the phone and waste their time..if im not doing something at this time....later

ps...they are even allowed to trade players...like the American, and National leagues...

Believe it or not, I think both Bush and Obama had the best of intentions when they entered office. Bush really did try to solve the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. And the good old Christian Right cut him off at the knees. Not the Jewish lobbyists. The Christian Right started a huge email/fax campaign to stop his efforts.

If you look at Bush's record, most of his mistakes were made his first term when he was listening to Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Feith, and the rest of the idiotic neo-con crowd. His second term he got rid of them all except Cheney, and he sidelined Cheney. But by that time the inertia was against him and their was little he could do.
