New Mexico

These are some pics I took about 3 weeks ago on a walk in my neighborhood. The foliage is pretty common around here - requires little watering and does well in this soil. The lavender bush is "lavender" Lots of people have it in their yards. It grows like crazy. The house with the brightly colored door is in my block. I love it. In the fall and winter when everything is brown, it brightens up the scenery. Xerascaping is very popular here since the water supply is dwindling, 2 houses with xerascaping. I am including one tree that I have no idea what the tree is but it was gorgeous at that time. The leaves at the top of the tree were bright green and there were long willow-like vines flowing down with bright red and orange leaves. It was a beauty. I had to send a pic of a cactus. Finally, there is a bush with pink-red flowers - I think it is a form of sage. The hummers love it in summer. If one of you wants to put these up sometime when the wells have run dry elsewhere, post which ones you like. All are within 2 blocks of my house.

Whew, I finally got up the first five pics. I don't know if it was the site or my computer, but the first two pictures loaded easily, then the site wouldn't take the rest. It just locked up.

I had to shut down my computer several times and try again. But anyway, Jan's beautiful pictures finally uploaded.

Thanks Jan, for sharing New Mexico with us!

Carol said...

Did you see my comment this morning. I was working on doing the same when you were. I lost the pics and then went back to old posts and saw they were saved as a draft. That's when I noticed you were doing the same thing so I just stopped. Great minds....

Carol said...

Yes Jan, great pics. Now you need to get those mountains at sundown pic you were talking about.

Anonymous said...

Carol, When I uploaded the next 5 pics, I noticed a couple of them were duplicates, but the site wouldn't let me correct them, so I kept starting over. Then the site wouldn't let me upload anything, unless I kept restarting my computer. It was so strange, but as I like to say: .. all's well that ends well.

ps I really got confused when I saw you in the drafts. I didn't know what was going on.

Ooh, Sun for the next five days. As much as I love rain, I'm ready for that sun. 46 here right now, but it'll be 75 in a few hours.

I think we're going to a movie today. I need to ask Jan which movie she ended up seeing and how it was. None of the movies look all that good to me the last few weeks (maybe even months).

Carol said...

Jan said she liked that Whip It. See her comments last night.

Anonymous said...

I'm going over to catch up on the old thread now. I'll check out Whip it too.

This morning I was concerned with the temp of the hummer nectar so I brought in the two feeders with the rings to sit on and warmed up the nectar. I'm not sure if the hummers even care.

Since I just put the nectar out yesterday and it's been cool, I didn't want to start all over making some nectar. I just tilted the feeders over in a large bowl, then took them apart. I heated the nectar for a few seconds and replaced it. That worked out pretty well.

Only thing is that the measuring cup that I used to pour the nectar back into the feeders may have had a trace of the salad dressing I made last night. You know how hard it is to get that oil off the surface of something even with my Dawn dishwashing liquid. I noticed a little oily feel in the measuring cup after I replaced the feeders outside.

It could only be a slight trace of salad dressing but I hope my hummers are partial to a trace of garlic herb dressing?? I do love it.

Coreen said...

Good morning...& nice to see those very interesting pics from Jan.

Thanks Jan for taking the time----please more, more.

Carol, it was a late night, but all in all well worth it. But the mission goes on.

When the ump held his index finger up circling,
I breathed a big sigh of relief.

Jan's comments about the movie, made me think about roller derby. I think I remember that
probably in the 50s or early 60s, roller derby
was on TV, but I don't know if CT had any
rinks? But hey I never learned how to roller
skate, so what do I know.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure that nectar is just fine, and that little bit of oil residue wouldn't hurt them. As a matter of fact, since it doesn't mix with water, I'm sure it's still there on that measuring cup, instead of in with the nectar. If dawn can't get it off, nothing can!

I'm going to get mine and warm it up too. But I'm not sure I even have any more hummers. Since you've had your feeder up for years, and your near the river, I'm sure you have a lot more regulars. It'll take another year or so for them to make this a regular stop.

Anonymous said...

"But hey I never learned how to roller
skate,"

Morning Coreen. You missed out, but it's never too late. :)

I 'loved' roller skating when I was a kid. On the sidewalk, through the whole neighborhood, as well as at the roller rink. Skates were often a form of transportation for me, when going to visit friends in the neighborhood. That, and a bicycle or walking, but skating was my favorite. Those were the days when you didn't drive everywhere.

Ok, got to get Emma her breakfast. See you all later.

Carol said...

Morning ladies. I was already outside playing in the dirt. That was until I got some red ant bites trying to take down my topsy turvy tomato plant hanger that I grew some tomatoes in last summer.

Jan was a roller skater and her skills there helped her learn to ice skate. It must not be too different. Before taking up that little sport at our age, I'd recommend a bone density. Some of our bones don't hold up to bouncing on a hard surface. I do know so very well.

If I could find a way to harness myself to something high in the air, I would do it. I'm very careful with anything I do now.

Solar said...

Jan,

Great shots of your area, and give ideas it can be done around here. thanks...hey you can take off the costume now...:-)))

Ivy'

Are you, or have U watched Sunday Morining ....one of the best: I especially liked the part about Magic, and the brain....I should have recorded it...the Magic J. and Larry Bird segement was great, and the bling guy adopting a blind kid.....excellent show. I was going to tell you that I try to watch it every Sunday...but didn't want to be a copycat...

Coreen said...

Not to worry Carol, no chance I would ever try to skate. I have enough trouble walking....

Chloe mentioned skating & bike riding which jogged my memory & reminded me I had a bike you may not believe existed, but I found a picture of it. Google rules.

No laughing now....wish I still had it, but who knew.

Did anyone else catch the nature segment on the CBS Sunday Morning show? They showed orb weaver spiders at work in Erie ("eerie"), NY, and they stuck in a few cawing crows for good measure.

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
Just scrolled up...should have read the thread before commenting, but I was soooo excited about the spiders! It was a great show this morning...we try not to miss it.

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
Did you see the bit they did about the guy who puts 4,000 jack-o-lanterns in his yard and attracts hordes of visitors? I already miss October.

Solar said...

Holy, Canloli's, Coreen,

I can't stop laughing at that D. D. bike...I can't picture the introvert lawyer want to be on that bike going....quack, quack...

Congrats on the game last night..You can take off that costume not also...we all can..it's all over, and Im back to being just Solar now...but you're neck still looks pretty good.....oops...maybe a little dracsolar left over....just a little nibble won't hurt mmmmm

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
I would love to make a trip out there to New Mexico. You are fortunate to live in such a beautiful place.

Carol said...

I caught one little piece of that morning show about the magicians. I got too comfortable on the couch and fell asleep. I got up too early this morning.

I like the DD bike Coreen. I have two bikes, one old racer, that is still in a little metal storage building that is smashed under an old tree that fell from a neighbors field, and another hanging in my shop.

I always liked the idea of riding a bike but too much pain involved. That area where the bike seat meets my butt doesn't have enough padding for comfort. I put two of those gel seats on the bike seat and nada, still hurts. I really can't understand how men can ride bikes.

I've always wanted to ask guys how they manage, having to deal with parts that seem like they would get in the way of doing so many things, but never had one around long enough to feel comfortable asking those kind of guestions.

I guess a reality show blog ain't the place either but you never know, there may be other people out there, also, dying to know

Didn't see Sunday Morning, the NYC marathon
has been on all a.m. Great views of NYC, especially Central Park overview.

The women are in the last mile, I remember when
the enter the Park, there is an incline that
takes its toll.

Right now a Russian & Ethiopian woman are side
by side.

Mens' side about a mile behind right now.

Coreen said...

The ethiopian woman Tula just took the lead, shes 37.

Coreen said...

She won just shy of 2:29. Believe it or not
40,0000 runners started the race.

Men about to enter Central Park from 5th Ave.

Right now at mile 24, it is an American in
the lead...

Coreen said...

His name is Keflezighi, he still has a 8 second
lead. Long time since an american won the NYC
marathon

Coreen said...

Half mile to go, he has a 12 second lead,
everyone is cheering, waving american flags.

Coreen said...

His name is Meb Keflezighi, he's smiling pointing to the USA on his shirt, waving,
& wins the NYC maration at 2:09.

Just crossed the finish line & did the sign
of the cross.

Last time an American won the NYC marathon was

The longest distance that I ran was 12 miles...I trained for it almost daily, and had to stop due to other needs, and interest...my hat goes off to those that go a lot further than this...cos it is one of the most difficult things to accomplish..

Coreen, was kidding about that bike...It was a nice one to have..looks just like the others, except for the duck face and.....bet it's worth a lot o$ now.!

Carol said...

Jan, your pics are as good as anyones. When I take a pic, I take lots of the same image to make sure one of them turns out OK. Some will come out with poor focus or crooked.

I wonder why I can't blow yours up this morning. I guess it may be the way the email sent them. May have sent them with a different format.

I got a new pic a few minutes ago to add to my Saturday morning pics:

Stalking the Great White

Carol said...

I saw the Great White Egret come flying over this way so I grabbed my camera and crawled out the door and crouched on my deck to take the pic.

Carol said...

The secret of any photography is taking lots of pics and then just choosing the best one to display. I took 4 pics of that bird.

Ivy Green said...

Fantastic photo, Carol.

Ivy Green said...

They're showing the NYC Marathon on NBC. Hubs has done three marathons. I don't breathe until he finishes.

Ivy Green said...

There is a lot of activity at my hummingbird feeder this afternoon. Not by hummingbirds, however. It is the chickadees who are vying for the sugar water today.

Ivy Green said...

My brothers are talking about them and Hubs running one more marathon before they hang up their sneakers. I'm not too wild about the idea. I find them very stressful.

Carol said...

When I went back to my house to get my clothes out of the dryer, I saw these butterflies, flying around a shrub that I can't remember the name off. I tried to take a pic. I took seven pics and didn't get one I was really crazy about.

I thought it was a moth but came home and found this Birds and Blooms magazine open with the picture of this butterfly just staring right at me.

Flighty Gulf Fritillary

Carol said...

And what is the name of that plant that butterfly is on. I have a lot of that plant growing wild around my yard at the house. It has kind of a funky smell but the butterflies like it.

Carol said...

Oh, that was my pic but I thought the colors were a little washed out looking. Another one had better color but the wings weren't as open.

Carol said...

Ivy, how long does Hubs and Broths have to train for their marrathon? Do you have to load Hubs with carbs?

Carol said...

I guess Solar is not going to touch my bike question with a ten foot pole. No pun intended.

jan said...

Hi all, slept in this morn and then Lobie and I had a long walk and cleaned the garage. I love cleaning the garage cause I always find stuff I didn't remember. Its like Christmas or my b'day or something - anyway its a surprise. chloe, thanks for posting the pics. I wish they could be blown up.

jan said...

Carol, beautiful pic of the white egret. The water is so blue.

jan said...

Wow! butterfly pic is gorgeous too. The colors are so vibrant.

jan said...

Ivy, do you run marathons too?

jan said...

Ivy, I guess you are talking about your hubs running marathons - being stressful- you can't breathe till he finishes. I am curious - is it the race or do you fear for him?

Coreen said...

The white egret is great. How far away from
your deck was she standing. Do they stop by
often.

My guess about your butterfly is that the plant may be lantana.

Again, you must have steady hands & a quick
finger to be able to capture those little
guys.

jan said...

I have always been in awe of people who run - I have never been able to run - It hurts everywhere when I run - yet I loved roller skating as a kid and ice skating later - I swim now and have lots of endurance there. Running - those of you who do it are amazing.

jan said...

Ivy, come on out to NM - anytime. Let me know if you do.

jan said...

Coreen, love the Donald Duck bike. I have an old green one speed Schwinn - I bought it LA in early 1970's - it is a little rusty - still has a little license on back that says "Lake Charles" I am going to get it cleaned up. I still like a one speed and brake by back-peddling. I

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
I do worry about him. No matter how much training, there is only so much the body can take. I worry they will push themselves beyond their limits because the competitive drive is sometimes greater than physical endurance.

One of my brothers has run at least 50 marathons or ultra-marathons. His wife still worries, she says, but not as much as in the beginning.

No, I do not like to jog or run.

jan said...

Chloe, we saw Whip It last night - I loved the movie - thought I might see some scenery from Austin -but did not recognize anything. I especially liked the dad in the movie - a real cool dad. Every girl should have a dad like that.

jan said...

Ivy, I see why you worry. I would too. Wow, over 50 marathons. Your brother must be in great shape.

I love to walk, I can get lost in just a long walk on a beautiful day - it is a little like meditation - very relaxing.

I guess I am not competitive - I enjoy physical activities that I can do on my own. When John is swimming, he talks about swimming next to someone and he feels a need to try to swim faster. When I swim laps I am not even aware of someone in the next lane. I find competitiveness strange - I really don't get it.

jan said...

Gotta go to my office for a little while. I need to see that everything is ready for tomorrow's class. Office is just 3 blocks away. See ya later alligators.

Carol said...

Coreen, that is the name of that plant. I kept thinking lantia, but couldn't find anything like that. I was close but only had the first three letter right.

The bird was pretty close but I think I did still use a little digital zoom on it. When I enlarged it to make wallpaper, it looked a little fuzzy. I think that is what happens when you use the digital zoom.

And no this is the first time I've seen that bird this close. I see it across the river quite often.

Carol said...

Jan, the river is mud brown right now. All the rain did that. It looks blue because it is reflecting the very blue sky.

Coreen said...

Carol, think you are right about using the zoom, not sure what megapixels means, my little Canon is 8 mp , 4+optical zoom.

Keeping hands steady is difficult for me.

Do you think the egret 'lives' across the river
or just passing through?

By the way, I forgot to mention, once you had a picture of a gardenia, which I know grows in the south. Do you have them nearby growing wild--I envy that--no matter how I have
tried indoors, I can get them to bud, but the
lack of humidity causes the bud to drop before they bloom.

I just love the gardenia fragrance, which is
absolutely impossible to produce artificially.

Carol said...

Coreen, Gardenia grow well down in the south. I have two gardenia brushes here and one at the house. It is my favorite flower for the scent. I love to pick them to bring in the house and like to put one in the truck. The sun will heat up the one in the truck and give off a wonderful aroma.

The plants bloom in the late Spring and the bush here has been having one or two flowers bloom, off and on, ever since.

Carol said...

It was beautiful and perfect outside today. What is strange about theses cool, sunny days is that I get sleepy. I fell asleep twice today. They weren't long naps because the jail always seems to know when I try to take a nap. Just when I get to that deep stage, the phone rings.

They also know when I'm in the shower and when I'm at WM.

Carol said...

Another flower that will fill the yard with a wonderful aroma is the Magnolia Fiscata. It blooms in the early Spring and has the smell of sweet bananas.

Magnolia Fiscata

The bloom is very tiny.

Coreen said...

Never heard of that particular magnolia, there
are magnolia trees here in the spring they
have huge flowers, some are star shaped, but
they do not last long & all the petals drop
off.

Solar said...

Coreen,

R u mad cos I made fun of the Duck-mobile? I sorta liked it to tell the truth.

Carol...If you are talking about the agony that some guys go thru..no nothing to say..since it is not a very good feeling..I have felt it only in the Marine Corps..when combat training in hand to hand..we had a brute of a martial arts instructor..and our other instructors were no prize..

I haven't rode a bike since I was 12... thats when I bought my first car...no license but had a car...that probably not 100% true, but I can't remember the last time...I would rather run, or walk..

Coreen said...

No Solar, not at all. It was a pretty special
bike for a little kid---I only wish I still had it---seems it would be worth quite a bit.

I thought of it when Chloe said she used to
ride her bike around her neighborhood.

But not sure about you thinking I am an
'introverted lawyer'---not quite sure any attorney could be introverted in the classic
sense anyway.

Solar said...

Coreen,
It seems to me that you might have been kinds shy when you were young, that all.

You can't tell, by the way that I talk so much here...but I was always shy around people...after I got to know them it was a diff. story..but did not talk so much like I do here...and at tm..this must give a lot of us shy people the ability to talk about anything. Did you think about becoming an Attorney at a young age?..I think that what I meant.

Solar said...

kind of shy--that is

Anonymous said...

Coreen,

That was one good looking bike. If I jolted the memory, then I'm glad. I also did quite a bit of bike riding (light weight racing bike, but I wasn't any racer) in adulthood, for a couple of years. But like Solar, I liked running much more, and did that for a few years too. But only about 4 miles a day, no marathons! I never felt better than I did during that time.

'Course, I went through a motorcycle stage too, but that's another story.

Anonymous said...

I can't imagine a shy person becoming an attorney. I think we through you off Solar, when a few of us were talking about having 'introvert' characteristics.

Anonymous said...

Carol, That was really a beautiful shot of the Egret and also the butterfly. Seems to me you're a very patient person. I imagine being able to stitch up surgeries and injuries requires a lot of patience and a very steady hand. So your being good with a camera doesn't surprise me. I'm sure you're good at everything you try, as a matter of fact. A high achiever. :)

Anonymous said...

"The horn quacked & donald's eyes lit up."

That is so cool Coreen.

Coreen said...

Solar, shy, not likely, but very selective in
reaching out to others.

I have little patience with most people, I tend
to dismiss those I find tedious, uninteresting, as well as those who think they
know everything & try to convince anyone in the
area that they do.

Coreen said...

Chlo---motorcycles---you will need to fill that out at some point.

Coreen said...

I must have missed the introvert discussion.

Carol said...

Chloe, I actually have had very little patience most of my life but I've been doing better since I've gotten older. It was one of those things I needed to learn.

Anonymous said...

Carol, It's funny you should say that because I was just about to say the same thing to Coreen (she's the one who posted that comment, btw). I am not a very patient person. But can be with someone I really like (or love). I was just re-reading Coreen's post, to see if any of it described me, and I think it all does, including 'selective'.

Anonymous said...

I'm always looking for common threads between us. What makes it so interesting, is not only the things we have in common, but also the things that differ in us.

I've changed a lot as I've gotten older too Carol. Am more patient than I used to be, but still need to do some work on it.

Solar said...

very selective in
reaching out to others.

"I have little patience with most people, I tend
to dismiss those I find tedious, uninteresting, as well as those who think they
know everything & try to convince anyone in the
area that they do."

This I already knew...but I thought that you said (maybe Chlo is right) you were a little introverted..

Anonymous said...

Coreen, Ivy and I had that introvert discussion. I think it was just before you started hanging out with us.

Anonymous said...

Yes Solar. I knew you were thinking about that discussion. It was Ivy and me that said we had those characteristics.

Coreen said...

I think it is all part of the aging process,
the absorption of knowledge from many sources,
tendency to listen, to evaluate, to respond in a measured way. A good thing though, never
stop growing, changing.

But its about time for me to get ready for
some baseball. See you at some point.

Coreen said...

Oh but let me know some of those introvert characteristics, my guess is, maybe we are all
a little introvert, a little extorvert.

Anonymous said...

Good luck Coreen!

Anonymous said...

Ivy, If you pop in tonight, did you save that introvert site we were looking at? If so, can you link it for us again?

I don't know why I didn't save it.

Solar said...

I think that is part of the reason that im here...you are all very hard to really get to know at first..it has been worth it.!!

Anonymous said...

Glad to hear we're not easy Solar.
Neither are you.

Solar said...

get to know you all that is.

Anonymous said...

Ooops, Hope I didn't scare you away Solar. I thought for sure I'd get a joke out of you with that last one.

See you all tomorrow.

I don't know if any of your have heard or seen anything like this but I never have. It's a hummingbird moth. I read about them in a little hummingbird magazine I got with my

I found a pic of one:

If anyone is interested in your introversion versus extroversion personality characteristic, try taking the Myers Briggs Personality Inventory. Its fun and has good reliability and validity based upon research findings.

Carol said...

And we need to see some customer reviews. I love those customer reviews.

jan said...

The MBPI is fun to take and helps us learn about ourselves and why we do what we do in many situations, especially relationships, and how we make decisions.

Carol said...

Hi Jan, are you ready for tomorrow? I'm not.

I have this inmate who is really testing us right now. He has cardiac problems and he is using his problems to medically harass us. Won't take his Bp meds, then has chest pain. They call me all hours of the day and night. He's been in and out of the hospital. He knows he has us over a barrel.

Carol said...

Is that test online Jan?

jan said...

Carol, I guess you can't force him to take the meds, can you. I know you can't force psych patients to take meds. Interesting, I have read in the paper about incarcerated people who die because they are not given their insulin or are not cared for when have medical problems. Your situation gives me an entirely different perception of this.

Yes, I think I am ready for tomorrow. I say "think" b/c when I get there, it seems I have forgotten to do or copy something. Oh well, I strive for progress, not perfection.

jan said...

Carol, yes - the test is online. It just takes a couple of minutes to take. You want to go with your first response to each question.

jan said...

Is that hummingbird moth for real?

Carol said...

Yes the moth is for real.

I just took the test. It's pretty neat. Everyone here will love this one.

I'm a INFP. What were you? I read some of the material about the results but want to spend more time going over it.

Carol said...

Wake up the rest of you guys and take the test. Jan, what were you?

jan said...

I am an INFJ - I suspect many that come here to your blog are I's rather than E's. But introversion on this test means something different that what most people think of as an "introvert" Read on. I think you will find it interesting. We use it in the College of Nursing with students in their first course and talk about how each type works in a group setting and with other types.
John is an ENFP

jan said...

I am in the "idealist" section and "counselor" or teacher is where I should be. Not surprising.

jan said...

INFP's and INFJ's are actually pretty rare. Most people I teach with are ENFP's. Administrators are often ENTJ's.

jan said...

I was mistaken, most administrators are ESTJ's. Bob is an ESTJ. I first took the test about 30 years ago.

Carol said...

How do you read about the other types? I can just read about mine.

jan said...

Carol, I talked to Bob today - he said to tell you "hi" He is going to be in Lake Charles in a couple of days to do some consulting with a chemical plant. He has his own business now. He looks different. He has a little goatee and moustache (completely white) and his hair is still dark - I think he colors it. He is very distinguished looking.

jan said...

After you click on "score it" there will be links you can go into to see other types. Look in Google for Myers Briggs personality inventory. There are several links that will give you lots of reading.

jan said...

I am taking a break. Going to watch a little TV with John.

Carol said...

Thanks for linking that test. It's really cool.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
I'm also an INFJ. I've done quite a bit of work with Myers Briggs. It is possible to change. I first tested INTJ. But I was never comfortable with it. When I found my "F", I became myself. lol

Ivy Green said...

Chloe,
I have that site stored somewhere. If you can give me until tomorrow, I will find it. I shared it with a psychologist-friend of mine. She thought it was super.

Ivy Green said...

I haven't taken the inventory in a few years. I think in the years since I've been "self-employed," I may have morphed from "J" to "P." I'm certainly more open to spur-of-the-moment than I ever was before.

Ivy Green said...

It's important to remember there's no right or wrong with Myers Briggs. The world is made up of all the types, and they're all good. I have to remind myself of that from time to time when I get impatient with "E's" who "invade my space." lol

I also discovered I'm what's called an "I in E clothing." That's from a book I have on my bookshelf. I'll look up the title and author and link it tomorrow if anyone cares to know about it...for now, I'm going 'nitey nite. Try to take special care during these time zone transitions. Take me forever to get my body clock readjusted to the slightest change. Must be a sign of age. lol

jan said...

I used to be an INTP - but this time I was an INFJ - so I have changed in the past 10 years. I have never changed the I or N. The N is my strongest of the 4 sections but this time I was a strong J - interesting.

jan said...

Ivy, I would like to hear about the "I in E clothing." Sounds fun.

jan said...

Ivy, thanks for that reminder that there is no right or wrong or good or bad or any value judgement in the personality types. We are all unique. When I first took the MB it helped me understand why I always felt different from everyone else, and why I have to get off alone when I have been with people for some time.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,

I will get it tomorrow. We "I's" have developed coping mechanisms to get along in the "majority world." Only 25% of us are "I's."

Ivy Green said...

I was going to head to the barn, but I may have to hang around for the end of the ball game. If it goes into OT, I may have to check out anyway.

Carol said...

Congrats Coreen. I just finished reading about the game last night. I fell asleep. My body is on a clock. I'm now waking up a little earlier, so is Maggie. She was dancing around this morning, telling me it was time to go outside.

Well I bet the Phillys will win tonight. It seems like for some reason they do like to drag these series out for as long as possible. Maybe not.

And A-Rod must be getting a little bruised up. I wonder if he could even have a broken ribs. Those balls don't mosey over to the plate. I'd be wearing some kind of padding on that left side if I was him.

In the article about the game it mentioned that the crowd was chanting, you used steroids. Was he one of the ones who used steroids?? Not a fan of that. Anyone caught using steroids should be out of any professional sports. Hell, I could play baseball if I took steroids. Maybe.

I'm real curious to see how ya'll come out on the test. I know Jan and Ivy's results. Now we need to see how the rest of yous do.

This Internet is really good for us "I"s. Keeps us interacting with other humanoids. Well at least most of us are humanoids. We may have one space alien here but that's all the better. Expands our horizons.

I wonder if I've always been an I. I think so. I only needed one good friend. Jan filled the bill for a while and then I had a neighbor who was my next BFF for over 20 years. Her husband also worked for the same company yours did Jan and they also ended up moving to BFE. Went to Malaysia for about 5 years then up north here. I need to stop finding friends who have spouses who work for Industry. No stability there.

I would like to reconnect with my last BFF but she got into this pyramid type marketing thing and she is totally obscessed with it. I haven't talked with her in a while. She kept insisting that I get involved. Hell, I can hardly manage what all I have to do now.

I think I am more "I" now that I was before.
With all the interacting I have to do at work, I need my "I" time more than ever. I don't want to go anywhere anymore. People have finally stopped asking me to. It may be that now that I have you guys, I've gotten worse. Well everything happens for a reason.

Carol said...

My time is up. Ya'll have a nice day. And take your test. It's mandatory.

Coreen said...

What a busy night & morning.

As you already know, I am elated at the outcome
of the NYY game. It was touchy as of the 9th
since the Phillies tied it in the 8th. But
the baseball gods deemed that those 'damn' yankees (as others might say)would rally for another win.

And the mission will continue tonite. Yes,
the consensus says that the Phillies will win
tonite, they do have their ace pitching---but
my guys are not about to roll over---& if
the Phillies do win, then the game returns to
that Stadium in the Bronx---as it should be.

As far as Alex having taken steroids, yes, this
past spring, a woman sportswriter (who actually
lives in Westport) wrote a book about him &
claimed he took steroids. Alex came out &
stated that early in his career he took something that at the time baseball was not
banned. Steroids of any mix where
not banned in baseball until after 1993 (pretty sure of the year) & there had been a test of all the players, a test that was to remain anonymous & not to be used to sanction anyone that may have tested positive. The allegation is that over 100 players tested positive on that test, & as a result of the Barry Bonds trial in CA, the FBI raided the company that had the results & since that time, selective leaks of the contents have occured.

As to Alex, the type of alleged steroids that
it was claimed he took are still unknown, since
apparently some products now banned by baseball
were & are still available in some latin american countries OTC.

This was a big sports story in the spring here
in NY. Without getting on my soapbox, if all
the players alleged to have used steroids before the union & the league came to an agreement about testing, there might not be
enough players to play. And the baseball owners were only to ready to increase revenue
& not address the use of steroid for years, at a time when baseball had fallen out of favor, after the baseball strike in 1994, & when hitters went on a tear, reaching for the homerun record of Hank Aaron, which put more
seats in the stands & obviously more $$ in the
owners pockets. And the union fought any & all
attempts to address the issue as well, so responsibility for the 'steroid' era has many
culprits.

And you know what, at this point, no one really
cares. If the Phillie fans were chanting---I
will not swear here but hint 's---w them'.

The Mitchell report identified players in it
as well---and several Yankees were named but
again all the claims were about alleged use
before baseball addressed the issue.
In NY, the knock on the Mitchell report was
he did not name a single Red Sox, because the
claim goes Mitchell had some ownership interest
in that team.

Off my soapbox for now.

Coreen said...

And another thing, the Phillie fans chanting----that is a loser's move.

jan said...

Coreen, wish I could comment intelligently about sports and steroids. I have not followed this issue. You are enlighening me about some of it. My husb, John was a competitive swimmer in college - so he follows these issues about it. I will try to learn more. I appreciate the information.

jan said...

Coreen, I will have to talk with my son, Bill. He is a big baseball fan.

Carol, My best friends were those friends I made when I was a students at different times in my life. I did have one close friend in Montana - but she moved after I had been there one year. I had a good friend in Alb when we moved here in 1979 - she was a colleague - and our friendship revolved around our work. When I went to school in Austin I moved there for 4 years and had some close friendships then - but then we all moved from Austin and over time, we stopped communicating. After Austin I moved to Arlington, TX and did not have any close friends there. When I moved to Little Rock, I met John and he has been my best friend since then. There are several colleagues at work that are friends but I would not call them "close" friends. I think my closest woman friend now is one of my daughers in law.

jan said...

"We "I's" have developed coping mechanisms to get along in the "majority world."

Ivy, I too have come to realize this. Interestingly, most of the people I am close to at work are also "I's" We understand each other and each of our needs for some space. In the hallway where my office is located, there are 2 or 3 of us that like to go into work to do writing on weekends - it is always the same 2 or 3 and we are all Introverts and Intuitives. When we are all there, we say hello to each other, and its nice to know they are there, but we each recognize that we are there to work when it is quiet and no distractions, so we respect each other's need for time alone.

...its off to work I go. Catch ya-all later.

Coreen,

I forgot to ask you a question. I had a phone call yesterday concerning Cit group filing for bankruptcy...

I did some work for someone that lost his house and was due to go into court..the sheriff sale went thru. and the cit group bought it from themselves..he says that he is in position to get an investor to buy his house on a short sale..can cit group still sell it to him..being in foreclose? how will this affect citgroup homes.

I told him that they are still doing business, and will be lending to it small corp clients...but not sure of how this will come out in regarding residential homes....thanks

Coreen said...

Solar,

Not sure that once title (ownership) passed
to the lender (CIT Group) that they would
sell it back to your friend as a short sale,
however, depending on how long ago what you
are calling the sheriff's sale occurred, if
that was as a result of a judgment obtained in
a court, maybe he could move to reopen the
foreclosure, because he has a new lender.

Each state is different. In CT you have a couple of months after a foreclosure enters to
move to reopen, but you need really good grounds.

A short sale here is usually attempted before
a foreclosure actually enters against the property, & in reality most lenders don't agree
to them, it is pretty difficult, just getting
to the right person to negotiate a short sale.

I believe CIT Group filed a chapter 11 reorganization, so business does continue, whether or not they are inclined to negotiate,
who knows, but if he is still in the house,
its worth the effort, he probably needs an attorney.

He thinks about it; and say's that he always wanted an Italian girl, a dark haired Italian beauty, with long eye lashes.

A cpl of months go by, and he has to pick up his wife from her return flight. He asked her if she brought back an Italian girl. She said we will see if it's a girl in a few months.!!

Thanks for the info....and Im not getting the duck tape treatment this time...but you are the one to choose where, and what we eat...I love see food as long as it's cooked. Raw clams are fine; with a little tabasco on them.mmmm

Carol, I took Jan's test today, and I'm an INFJ. Thanks Jan for linking that test. It's fun to compare the results. I think you said the P and J I's were pretty rare, but we seem to have a high percentage of them here so far

Here's the link for anyone who missed it: Jung Typology Test

I noticed a woodpecker out my window a few minutes ago, and I haven't seen or heard one since last winter. I'm not sure if they only come here in the winter, or if that's the only time I can see them, because the tree's are starting to thin out some. I think this one was just checking things out, because he only stayed a couple of minutes and never started escavating.

I'm actually looking forward to the season, since I've started thinking about the different birds I saw last year. Maybe this year I'll actually get a shot of them.

Carol said...

Coreen, sistergirl, don't shoot the messenger. I was just quoting an article that I read on Fox Sports this morning. I found it when I went there to check the scores for the game last night.

I don't have a clue about A-Rob's history but I do stand by my feelings about the use of steroids in sports. If we wanted bionic people to play sports we should just use robots. It's safer for everyone that way. Steriods can kill the athlete or have some very serious health effects. I know athletes might be willing to risk that for millions but we shouldn't pay them to do it.

Solar, you were assuming I was talking about you as our space alien, maybe. I could have been talking about myself. I really haven't revealed my planet of origin yet.

I had such a rough day today. That's what I get for taking a crisis day on Friday but then I did spend most of my days off on the phone with the joint.

I saw over 40 patients today and most of them were newbies with lots of medical problems. I needed a strong order of Thorazine, to go, when I left work.

I see some of our students here did not take their test. That is, except Ivy. Good girl Ivy. Add compliant to Ivy's list of personality traits. Jan already took hers. Let me tell the rest of you that the make up test is hell!

Oh Coreen, I don't get ESPN out here and I'm not going home so I will have to find the game on the radio, like the olden days. Why would they have such a great game on a channel that not everyone can get. Sue someone Coreen. Do it on contingency, OK?

Carol said...

Oops, you slipped in just under the wire Chloe, smart to avoid that make up test. And please don't shoot the birds.

Cute joke Solar.

Coreen said...

Carol, I did not intend to attack you about
Alex, just an explanation of the events surrounding the behavior of the fans. As I
said, it was a big story this spring.

I will add that it is my understanding that
since that 'anonymous test', Alex as well as
others have been tested with no more positives,
but do I think athletes may try to take any
advantage, sure, it is the nature of sports, it
is such big business.

Monday Night Football left abc a few years ago
& went over to espn, again I'm sure because
of money, it always is.

And sorry you had a rough day, will keep one eye on espn for you tonite.

INFJ, thats what it said. No more test's.

Carol, no; did not assume that I was an alien. It was about your other questions.

Carol said...

So far everyone here in an INF but you guys have that J on the end. Now what does that stand for? My P is for perceptive even though it was a weak P. That J stands for judgemental??? Am I in trouble here? All you J's against my weak P???

Solar said...

Don't know what that all means tho: a few of those questions i could have answered the opposite or both yes and no.

I=22,N=25,F=12,J=44

Carol said...

I didn't save my numbers but my P was 22 and it said it was a weak P. My "I" was much higher. I will have to take the test again.

Coreen said...

Ok are you ready for this---INTJ

introverted, intuitive, thinking, judging
whatever that means, I copied the explanations
will need to analyse,

Coreen said...

What is everyone else---not sure I have much
faith in this test, but will go over it.

Carol said...

".not sure I have much
faith in this test,..

Too much thinking Coreen.

Carol said...

Everyone else here was introverted, intuitive, feeling, judging. I was the same except perceptive instead of judging.

Carol said...

Maggie took the test and she was extroverted, feeding, pooping and peeing.

Coreen said...

Apparently there are 4 temperaments--guardian, idealists, artisans, rationals. Then depending on what yo come out as, such as INTJ there are
subcategories of each temperament.

Carol said...

Did you read your profile yet Coreen?

Carol said...

It suggested that the "law" might be a good area for you Coreen.

Coreen said...

There is another profile that apparently discusses every combination of the letters.

In that one, I'm in the company of none other
than Hillary, Michelle Obama, Bill Buckley, Rudy Guliani, Donald Rumsfeld, JFK, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Charlie Rangel,Susan B. Anthony,Lance Armstrong, Augustus Caeser & Hannibal (now how could anyone know what they were!) Raymond Burr, Katie Couric, Phil Donahue, Richard Gere, Martina Navratilova, Angela Lansbury & fictional characters-Gandalf the Grey, Professor Moriarty, Hannibal Lecter &
Clarice Starling.

Kinda hard to believe all those have the same
profile.

Coreen said...

I can't get back to the descriptions w/o putting in the answers again, but the 4 temperaments has my category a rational portrait of the "Mastermind"! (INTJ)
I don't think so! 1% of the population

Coreen said...

And first phone call about the game already....not to happy with burnett giving up a 3-run homerunto utley in the 1st inning.

Carol said...

I'm a little concerned about that Hannibal Lecter in your group.

Carol said...

I sensed a little of that in your response to me this morning.

Coreen said...

Carol,

Moi! But come closer Clarice......

Your sensors were tired when you got home--I was not directing any of it to or at you,
just to advise you of the bigger picture that
has prompted the classless fans to open their
mouths---add that to the fact that they had
to have cops in their outfield stands because the morons were throwing coins at swisher & melky, just confirms the NY view (& that is from Mets fans/sports talk radio I listen to) that Phillies fans are well they showed it last night.

Coreen said...

Looks like you don't have any villains in your

You even have Mary (Jesus' mother), St.John & St. Luke, Dick Clark,
Mr. Rogers, Julia Roberts, Neil Diamond, Jackie
O & JFK,Jr, Hellen Keller (hope Ivy is an INFP), Donna Reed, Shakespeare, & ET

jan said...

INteresting that all of us here are introverts and intuitives.

My understanding of the Myers Briggs is that J does not mean judgemental - it has to do with making decisions. J's can make decisions more quickly and with less input and they generally stick with their decisions. P's or perceptors like a lot more information before making decisions and are more willing to change their decisions. I would imagine that many attorneys are J's.

jan said...

Carol, a weak P means you are close to being a J so you are close to being in between a J and a P.

Anonymous said...

"INteresting that all of us here are introverts and intuitives."

Jan, You predicted that earlier today, didn't you: On on of your posts. Were you also INFJ?
I was going to ask you how you knew.

I had the same understanding of the judgment characteristic as you just explained.

Coreen said...

Well, Jan, your explanation sounds more reasonable than what I am reading.

jan said...

Carol, The Student Nurse Association met today - I am fac sponsor. They had a speaker who is the nurse manager for a correctons facility here. I stayed to hear what she told the students about her job. She talked about the different health problems the inmates have, many that you have talked about.

Anonymous said...

Jan, That 'How did you know' part of my questions, was in regard to the first question, about you predicting that most people here would be Intuitive.

jan said...

Chloe, I too am an INFJ.

Carol said...

I thought it was interesting that I have one of my Mary's,not my sister, in my group. By the way Mary, my sister, came up a ISFJ.

jan said...

I am a moderate I, strong N, weak F and strong J. The people mentioned for INFJ's were Muhatama Ghandi and Eleanor Roosevelt. We are idealists-counselors.

Coreen said...

Carol, when you have mentioned your friend
Mary recently, not your sister, I wondered
if that was who you refering to.

Carol said...

I was kiddin you guys on the judgemental part. I'm a kidder, I am.

jan said...

Chloe, not sure -but Intuitive is my strongest part. I practically have no sensing which is the opposite of intuitive.

Solar, we have the same personality type too. INFJ's.

Carol said...

Boy I am multimedia, multitasking tonight. Got radio with Saints, TV with baseball/Dancing with the stars and computer, and answering the phone. Whew! Not easy after my day.

Anonymous said...

"I am a moderate I, strong N, weak F and strong J."

Jan, Mine were:
* moderately expressed introvert
* slightly expressed intuitive personality
* moderately expressed feeling personality
* slightly expressed judging personality

Wouldn't you know I wasn't strong on any of them. Al moderate and slightly.

Carol said...

I have three Marys in my life, the Virgin, the Magdalene, and my sister. So Mary, not my sister, is one of the first two. They watch over me. I watch over the Mary, my sister.

jan said...

I suppose if we were all sensing extroverts we would be out having drinks at a bar or at a symphony or somewhere talking to people instead of here on computers and chatting with each other on-line.

Coreen said...

Somehow the categories were on the bottom of
the screen, so I checked & naturally the only
category with villains is mine.

jan said...

Chloe, tried to copy your 4 statements above and had problems. I think that when people are close to the middle on the 4 dimensions of the MB it means they are well balanced - so sounds like you are well- balanced.

Anonymous said...

Ha, That was easy for you Jan. And of course you're right. I guess it was obvious to you.

I kind of like the description they gave of our category, and found myself agreeing with a lot of it.

I liked this in particular: "INFJs, like many other FJ types, find themselves caught between the desire to express their wealth of feelings and moral conclusions about the actions and attitudes of others, and the awareness of the consequences of unbridled candor. Some vent the attending emotions in private, to trusted allies. Such confidants are chosen with care, for INFJs are well aware of the treachery that can reside in the hearts of mortals"

Coreen, It reminded me of what you said about carefully selecting your friends. You didn't say it exactly like that, but you did say you were particular. Am I right?

Carol said...

I am

distinctively expressed introvert
moderately expressed intuitive personality
moderately expressed feeling personality
slightly expressed perceiving personality

jan said...

Coreen, on the other hand, many of the people in your type are extremely strong and dynamic people too.
I think all the types have villains. I have heard it said that our weaknesses are also our strengths. I don't know who said that.

Anonymous said...

Nooo Jan, I wasn't. I was way too high on feelings (but then I knew that). I'm aware that I regular use my feelings to make decisions - I just think of them as being more intuition. I rationalize. Here's the numbers:
Introverted Intuitive Feeling Judging
Strength of the preferences %
44 12 31 11

.not well balanced at all.

Carol said...

"the only category with villains is mine"..

Typical lawyer Coreen!

Anonymous said...

... although, they did call it moderate. I don't know why.

Anonymous said...

"our weaknesses are also our strengths."

Ooh Jan, I like that. It'll keep me thinking for days.

Anonymous said...

Solar, I noticed you and I are in the same category, but our numbers were very different. Were you happy, or at least agreeable, with your result?

Coreen said...

Guys, this is precisely why I do not analyse
myself. The more you look the more complicated
it gets.

Chloe, Yes, I am extremely selective about all
things. With regard to the internet, after
evaluating others, I have learned those with whom I would not want to continue a conversation, for varied reasons, you form
perceptions, we all do, & honestly I can not
imagine getting into a contest of wills with
someone I do not really know---I can argue
daily with other attorneys.

That is why I am very happy to be among you
guys, who I consider friends, though I don't
really know you personally.

jan said...

Chloe, Wow! I really like what you said up there - I feel that many times. Sometimes when I am steamed up either by strong emotions or a strong opinion, I hold back from expressing what I think or feel because a little voice inside me asks - what will you achieve by saying what you think or venting your feelings and who will it hurt?

jan said...

Or put another way - our strengths are also our weaknesses - actually I think that is the way it is worded.

Coreen said...

"typical lawyer"

And I had a collection of some really nice
pics to share this week....

Anonymous said...

"I can not

I don't know why I did that so much at Tm Coreen. Got so emotionally involved, and so offended by some there. You are so smart to have automatically put it into perspective. I think it's partly because of the kind of work you do. You're very analytical. I can be, but often override it. But being an attorney, you could never allow yourself to make the mistakes I do. I almost 'enjoy' being wrong. As long as there's not a price to pay. If there is, then I don't make the mistake.
