Coreen, you have a point - we don't need to do too much naval-gazing. I think the MB is just a fun way to look at ourselves and enjoy who we are. What is fun is to see how very similar we all are - here.
I look forward every day to coming here and seeing what you all are up to - and what you have been chatting about while I have been gone.
I enjoy the company of all of you. Its nice to have someone to visit with early in the morning or to catch up on the chatting if I can't sleep at night too. November 2, 2009 6:31:00 PM PST

Yes Jan. Do you do what it said though: vent to a close friend or loved one, that can be trusted. I 'always' do. I can't seem to keep anything inside for long. November 2, 2009 6:32:00 PM PST

Mistakes, apparently my category doesn't allow for them, say INTJ's are perfectionists & what prevents them from becoming chronically bogged down in this pursuit of perfection is the pragmatism so characteristic of the type.
"Don't think of myself as a perfectionist at all."
You know Coreen, I think maybe we have a negative connotation of some of these words, but that they can actually can be very positive traits. I would imagine that in your field of work, you have to be very accurate. If that is perfectionism, then it's a very 'good' thing.
Just seems like you've done a very good job putting your life together, that you've made decisions carefully. So, if doing a good job is perfectionism, may that word is close enough.
I think that test uses words a little differently than we do. Just like the J not meaning 'judgmental', but instead meaning something more like, judging the situation, before making a decision.
What's weird is that after my days at work, and my work has been pretty intense for a long time, lots of people I have to interact with and most are very stressed people, I just want to be alone. Don't even want to talk on the phone. But I still like interacting on the computer with you guys. Weird.
And yes, remember you interact regularly with people, under what I am sure can at any particular time be very stressful, so that just kicking back with Mag is your comfort zone.
Believe it or not, I can spend an entire weekend at home alone, & always think if someone I knew was murdered, I wouldn't have an alibi!!!
I think introverted on that test means that you have a strong, well thought out inner world. Carol, you do a lot of thinking. I don't think introvert means anti social, ever.
I read once that the main meaning of 'introvert' means that you are easily stimulated by a small amount of social activity. Whereas, extroverts can't get enough of other people. The more extroverted they are, the more they can't be alone.
You simply enjoy your alone time Carol, as much as you enjoy contact with other people. That's another good thing.
Is right imo. It is not productive to self analyze too much. Not accurate at all. We can't know how the self in its entirety. ..thats why neuroscience is working on the mind, how it functions.
Unconscious actions for example...there is now way of knowing most of the time...if someone is a hero, what exact character type, Will a person save someone, or freeze and not be able to assist the person drowning...save a buddy in combat etc. can't tell.
We can understand our selves superficially:
You have been talking about sports (Coreen, if I was still betting a lot of $ I would have bet against NY. lots of $ involved in playing the next two games at NY ...or just one) It is crucial that an athlete understands himself..what his body can do, how it will re-act without thinking...this is superficial type..but all of what everyone has said is also right..to the best that they can analyze themselves...in the long run..just fun...made any sense??
I also like to look someone in the eye and watch their body language. Can't do that with a group. There is a lot going on in those eyes and with that body language. Sometimes it's saying the opposite of what is coming out of the mouth.
In other words: I don't think that you can analyze your self in any objective way, since you don't have the tools, the understanding of what a thought might be. Think about thinking for a moment..can you do it, on a regular basis, and in depth...that why the great minds like Spinoza, Einstien were fanatical about thinking...
No argument from me Solar. Sports is all about money. Personally, I want them in the Stadium as I said before, so while I would have been happy if they were to win tonight, I'm ok, now tomorrow, I will be on edge, since Andy will be pitching on 3 days rest & that is the wild card.
And again don't think it just do it, too much thought causes one to second guess your instinct.
I don't know if I agree Solar. I have done a lot of self analysis. Have for most of my life. I am pretty aware of my weaknesses and even when I think I'm trying to fool myself. I even realize when my body is trying to pull a fast one on me.
I won't necessarily share what I have learned with anyone else. I keep it to myself.
Hi Guys, Just back from my night out with the girls. I see I have not one, but two threads to catch up on. I've skimmed over, but need to read carefully to digest. Are you all taking an on-line Myers Briggs? Do I need to re-take it there? Where do I find the link? It's been at least seven years since I last inventoried. Would be interesting to see if I've changed yet again. If this is the bona fide Myers Briggs you are taking, you can trust the results. There are copy-cats or "for fun" tests, and I might be skeptical about the validity of those.
You are in the medical field and do analyze body functions, and characteristics..and there for in the position to understaffed more than most...so in your self analysis it is probably better than most...
Almost all people separate mind, from body...they forget that it is all the same....the body and mind is the same...matter---the Brain..that is..which created the mind...
Thats true of INFj's. Im harder on myself than anyone else..and my poor son got some of it to..not mean, but insistence on understanding himself..but once again i don't think that we are equipped to do it...
If you understand how, what and why your parents did what they did as far as you were concerned...I think that goes a longer way of understanding your self..most people behave, badly, or not for those reasons....just saying...later
Solar I finally realized that your answer earlier this evening was in response to my question yesterday about your being for sale. I'm a little dense at times, many times.
I have been catching up with your chatting. Coreen, I am dying laughing at your statement , "I can spend an entire weekend at home alone, & always think if someone I knew was murdered, I wouldn't have an alibi!!!" That is too funny. I hope you meant it to be funny.
I like this tool better for determining personality type. Gives you a list of characteristics for each area. You pick which characteristic best fits you. I had some problems with the other test because of the questions.
Carol, yes I did watch DWTS. I think Maya is my favorite. I like her dancing and she has a great personality. She seems confident, yet not arrogant and she always seems to be having fun. My favorite male pro is Derek. I think is an amazing dancer.
Even more interesting. Before Bob and his wife moved to little Rock, they lived in Illinois for about 12-15 years. They were both teaching for a university there - I think they lived in a town called Charleston.
Well I did, but like you I have a way of losing touch when people leave me. Also, she got involved with this pyramid like marketing thing. She became so obscessed that all she did was try to talk me into getting involved. I was not interested. She wouldn't take no for an answer.
I just got a shortened report from that personality inventory company in e-mail. I am much more introverted than the average woman - according to the report. For more info I need to send $39.
I have known people involved with that kind of thing. About 25 years ago a woman I worked with wanted us to get together with our husbands. I invited them to our house, and the same thing happened. They were into the same business and we sat and listened to their "advertisement" I was so disappointed in her. I didn't have anything to do with her after that. I really felt "taken in" by them. Of course we did not get involved in the scheme. I just don't care about those schemes.
Their marketing is all based on how it cured Aunt Sally or Uncle Ed. They also want medical people because they believe we might have more credibility.
Oh, is reliv - something that is supposed to make you younger? John has a neice (about 50) who is involved with this get rich quick scheme that sell supplements. Is that it?
It's a bunch of nutritional supplement products. They may be great but I'm skeptical about supplements. I think I could sell some of the Swamp mud and say it cured Aunt Sally of her ailments and get by with it.
Supplements do not have to prove anything. They can't say they cure anything but the people who sell them can say they helped all their family and get by with it.
It sounds like the same stuff John's niece has bought into. I am just not into supplements. I take Vit D now b/c my doc thinks its a good idea and my blood test showed I was a little low. I take vits on occasion - but I am not consistent. In the last year, I have really tried to eat recommended amounts of fruites and veggies rather than take supplements.
I had some students who wrote a research paper on blood levels of ViT D and the findings are that when the vit D levels are low, people have higher risks of cancer. It is pretty new, so I don't know how rigorous the research methods are that have these oucomes. Something to look into.
"A major concern for INTPs is the haunting sense of impending failure"
That one kept me trying hard all the time. Always feared failure. Made a 4.0 in both grad programs because I was always sure I would fail the next class.
"They spend considerable time second-guessing themselves."
Too much time. Gives me a headache.
"They may venture so deeply into thought as to seem detached, and often actually are oblivious to the world around them."
I've walked past people who complained about this often. They would tell me they thought something was wrong with me or that I just lost my best friend. A couple of times that was the case. I've even run into walls doing this, made a turn too soon.
Didn't get to sleep until after 1 Am. I'll be tired today. Saints game didn't get over until late and then I was wired.
Sorry Coreen about your Yanks loss last night but I knew that would happen. I don't have much experience watching the World Series but the couple of times I did, it seemed like that happened.
I have to go to my regular Doc this afternoon and I'm going to look like something the cat dragged in, blowed up and tired. Too many treats and not enough sleep. She only makes me come once a year.

Thanks for the interesting conversation Jan. Enjoy your evening with your hubby.
See you tomorrow.
Mistakes, apparently my category doesn't allow
for them, say INTJ's are perfectionists & what prevents them from becoming chronically bogged down in this pursuit of perfection is the pragmatism so characteristic of the type.
Don't think of myself as a perfectionist at all.
Jan enjoy your evening.
I think we all look forward to gathering here.
That was fast work Chloe.
Have a nice evening Jan. She's going for that Dancing with the Stars, I bet. It's called foreplay.
Did you notice your team is not having a good evening Coreen? I knew that would happen.
Saints are stuggling also.
Carol, never mad....
Not happy about it so far, but I really would
like to see them playing at the Stadium, with
a chance to win.
Solar, are you out there? Did we scare you off?
"Don't think of myself as a perfectionist at all."
You know Coreen, I think maybe we have a negative connotation of some of these words, but that they can actually can be very positive traits. I would imagine that in your field of work, you have to be very accurate. If that is perfectionism, then it's a very 'good' thing.

Did A-Rod wear his bullet proof jacket tonight?
It seems like those balls could have broken a rib or two.
Yeah Solar, I would have thought you'd really enjoy this conversation. I know you have a lot to add. Wish you talk to us.
I also wish Ivy was here. I know she'd have a lot of interesting takes on what we're discussing.
I'm going to mosey on out of here.
Night everyone.
Ivy hasn't been here since early this morning. What were your percentages Ivy?
I seemed to have come out more strongly introverted than the rest of you. Maybe that is why it is just the Magster and me.
Seems that most of the time athletes manage to
absorb the blows, though I'm sure they hurt.
Good night Chole.
Didn't Ivy mention that Monday is her night out?
What's weird is that after my days at work, and my work has been pretty intense for a long time, lots of people I have to interact with and most are very stressed people, I just want to be alone. Don't even want to talk on the phone. But I still like interacting on the computer with you guys. Weird.
Carol, I have no idea what an introvert is,
maybe you are just comfortable with who you
are & you don't need the company of others
regularly.
People tend to think being alone
automatically means you are lonely & that is just not the case.
She does have a girl's night out.
And yes, remember you interact regularly with
people, under what I am sure can at any particular time be very stressful, so that
just kicking back with Mag is your comfort zone.
Believe it or not, I can spend an entire weekend at home alone, & always think if someone I knew was murdered, I wouldn't have an alibi!!!
Saints are heating up.
28-14 Saints.
I can see it now. Superbowl here we come!
Heating up they have a 14 point lead....
They were struggling for a few minutes and then wham!
.. well, here I am, still here.
I think introverted on that test means that you have a strong, well thought out inner world. Carol, you do a lot of thinking. I don't think introvert means anti social, ever.

Just looked up introvert, liked this guy's take on it.
Now you know why I do not analyse actions, in the end there is just no answer.
Caring for your introvert
I would rather one to a couple of people I can more intensely interact with.
Chloe,
Coreen

IIIIIIny. Your home!
That's suppose to be IIIIIvy.
Solar, I've spent more time, than most people, with myself. This old girl can't fool me.
Give us your scores Ivy. We will analyze you.
There's also a personality-thing called the Enneagram. I don't know much about it.
I'll tell you a little perception Chloe. I often feel that I know the least about you of anyone else here.
INFJ's do their own self-analysis. Nobody's harder on themselves than an INFJ. lol
It's said the Isabel Briggs Myers was herself an INFJ. I think I read that somewhere.
I think I should quit for the night while the Phillies are ahead.
Man, I could use a cheese steak.
Almost all people separate mind, from body...they forget that it is all the same....the body and mind is the same...matter---the Brain..that is..which created the mind...
Drifted away, time to say call it a night.
See you again.
Nite all.

I knew it Coreen. Back to the Bronx.
Solar I finally realized that your answer earlier this evening was in response to my question yesterday about your being for sale. I'm a little dense at times, many times.

Personality Pathways
With this tool I fit more with the INTP
Coreen, thank you for that link to "How to care for your introvert."
Did you watch DWTS Jan?
I don't know why I'm still awake but am still listening to Saints. I should have been asleep an hour ago.
Carol, yes I did watch DWTS. I think Maya is my favorite. I like her dancing and she has a great personality. She seems confident, yet not arrogant and she always seems to be having fun. My favorite male pro is Derek. I think is an amazing dancer.
Carol, I did the test for the one you linked above, but it said you pay $40. for the analysis. The other one is free.
I didn't take any test. I just read thru the characteristics and picked which best fit for each.
Maybe I screwed up on the link.
Carol, I laughed when I read your suggestion that DWTS is foreplay. I'm laughing now.
They listed, side by side, characteristics for each like feeling v thinking, etc.
Well you did mention how worked up John gets.
Were you able to print out results when you did the test. When I tried to print results - I got the- send $40. statement.
That is ok though. I trust the MB.
Wasn't it interesting that both you and my next BFF both had husbands working at the very same industry and both of you moved because of a transfer.
Yes, he does get pretty excited watching the women with the cute outfits -
You are right - the link does go into detail about the 4 dimensions (I don't know what else to call them).
The only problem I had was the thinking v feeling. I have more characteristics with thinking.
Yes, it is interesting. Was he working for an oil company?
Same oil company as Bob.
Hmmm - well, sometimes we see ourselves one way more than another.
Wow! that is interesting - same company.
Still works for them in Illinois
A town close to St Louis, Missouri.
Even more interesting. Before Bob and his wife moved to little Rock, they lived in Illinois for about 12-15 years. They were both teaching for a university there - I think they lived in a town called Charleston.
Do you still stay in touch with the woman?
Well I did, but like you I have a way of losing touch when people leave me. Also, she got involved with this pyramid like marketing thing. She became so obscessed that all she did was try to talk me into getting involved. I was not interested. She wouldn't take no for an answer.

Ever heard of Reliv?
Don't fall for that one.
You might also be younger than you think for only $60.95
I have known people involved with that kind of thing.
LOL, That is too funny. I think I was more taken in by stuff like that in younger years. It doesn't happen any more.
Never heard of "reliv" What is it?
Their marketing is all based on how it cured Aunt Sally or Uncle Ed. They also want medical people because they believe we might have more credibility.
Oh, is reliv - something that is supposed to make you younger? John has a neice (about 50) who is involved with this get rich quick scheme that sell supplements. Is that it?
John's niece has other family members buying these supplements. I guess I just don't believe in any "quick" cure for anything.
Well I'd better try to go to sleep before it is time to get up again. Nite Jan.

I take vits on occasion - but I am not consistent. In the last year, I have really tried to eat recommended amounts of fruites and veggies rather than take supplements.
You best bet is eating the real thing. Food high in vitamins and other nutrients.
Nite Carol, I need to get to bed too. I have to orient a new group of students tomorrow to the community course.
All of a sudden everyone I know is low in vit D. And even with those 50,000 units twice a week, they are still low. What's up with that?
Nite. Have fun
I had some students who wrote a research paper on blood levels of ViT D and the findings are that when the vit D levels are low, people have higher risks of cancer. It is pretty new, so I don't know how rigorous the research methods are that have these oucomes. Something to look into.
Nite again.
