RACHAEL MADDOW ON PRIMARIES: 'VIBRATING OFF MY SEAT'...

Well, it's obvious that Rachael takes elections very seriously.
Maddow's "Matthews Moment"

I know everyone has alerady heard this story, and so am just pointing it out. But it sure does fit into what some of us have been hoping for: that voters would show their anger at the polls. It sends a strong message to DC - I just hope they're listening.

Voters back anti-DC, anti-establishment candidates
"Dealt fresh blows from an angry electorate, Republican and Democratic leaders in Washington on Wednesday studied the defeats of Senate incumbents and hand-picked candidates in hopes of learning lessons to avoid losses in other upcoming primaries if not the fall election.

Any doubt about just how toxic the political environment is for congressional lawmakers and candidates preferred by party leaders disappeared the night before, when voters fired Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania, forced Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln into a runoff in Arkansas and chose tea party darling Rand Paul to be the GOP nominee in Kentucky's Senate race." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100519/ap_on_re_us/us_primary_rdp

I apologize for the repetition, but I'm afraid that Carol will miss Coreen's important post from the last thread - and I want to make sure Jan see's mine, to eliminate the idea that I am someone that always eats healthy.

Coreen said...

Carol,

While I know you are considering your tentative house arrangement a roommate situation, pretty sure it is not really a 'roommate' event, since you are the owner of the property.

Generally roommates either jointly or one of them have contracted with an owner to rent the premises usually by a lease & then for whatever reason have another person share the responsibilities of the tenancy & between those roommates agree on terms of the living arrangement....

While you should be able to enter into a written agreement of the terms of the person or
persons living arrangements, I am still concerned about the legal obligations for you
if it fails to work out as you are anticipating.

Not sure what if any expenses/rent is going to be paid, the idea of you coming & going as a 'roommate' in the home, and again what
happens if it doesn't work out. Who takes care of what, etc.

For me, legally I feel that you are entering into a landlord/tenant event & should
be sure to spell out the terms not only of each
side's responsibilities, but what happens if
the arrangement has to end, what is the term of the tenancy...month to month, annual.

Do you use an attorney in your town that you could call & ask what would be best to cover
your rights if it does not work out...

What little I found about LA is that there are
local courts that have jurisdiction if a tenant does not comply with terms of the lease,
not sure about what you are calling a roommate
agreement, as I said, you are not simply a roommate, but an owner agreeing to allow an
individual to reside in your home on whatever terms you are considering between the parties..

My concern remains protecting you in the event
it does not work out the way you are anticipating.

and mine responding to Jan:

"My biggest problem is I love sweets"

Jan, I love sweets too! Didn't you know I'm the resident junk food junkie here. Carol inspired me to go on this diet and I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't want to lose a few pounds.

When I was talking about the food pyramid, etc.. well, that's just because I'm focused on it right now. I actually believe you eat a LOT healthier than I normally do Jan - you all do - but I'm trying. :)

... most of the things I talk about here are things I'm working on - and I'm working on them because I'm the one that needs to learn them.
May 19, 2010 10:09:00 AM PDT

.........

"My saving grace is I like to exercise"

I sure wish I had that quality Jan.

The 'only' way I stay off sweets is to not bring them in the house. Once I've made that decision, it becomes second nature quickly. Not having sweets handy almost guarantee's I'll lose weight.

The reason I said that I lose my cravings when I start eating a lot of healthy, nutrient rich food, is because when I am eating junk food, I tend to overeat throughout the day. So that's the way I work it - I say no to sweets (for as long as it lasts).

And NEVER let yourself get too hungry. Always have fruits and melons and salad stuff available for emergencies. I just had some delicious corn on the cob.

... what's really weird is how indescribably delicious all the healthy foods start tasting.

Carol, I hope you listen closely to Coreen, because what she's looking at is a way to protect you if the unexpected happens.

... forgot.

I've been wondering if our comment problems have something to do with Google (since we use them to make our comments). It's seems like they're hanging in limbo, then coming back and forth. It is weird, but not 'that' surprising, since everything is wireless. I'm surprised things go as well as they do.

The reason I said to shut down and restart, is so you're completely logged off Google and here. When you open another tab, then you're still logged in (it works sometimes, but not always). Also, I figure you stayed logged in on your computer, when you went over to iphoney, so you never got the benefit of breaking your connection to the site.

A restart is very easy, and clears up almost all problems.

Oh no! 42 percent?!!

No high fat, processed meats (luckily, it turns out I've never liked them much, anyway).

Just looking at the pic, though, makes me hungry. They cooked them just right - all charbroiled and ready to go.

"Eating hot dogs, bacon, sausage or deli meats increases the chance of heart disease by 42 percent, US researchers said in a report out Monday."

Chloe,
Thank you so much for that info on using Yahoo for e-mail address. I passed the info on to my husband and he signed up immediately. You have made a difference in the mood around here. He was able to get into Facebook and internet and everything else, but not his e-mail and it was not "pretty" here. With the loss of e-mail he lost his address book too. Fortunately, I keep e-mails too long and he forwarded a lot of stuff to me so I was able to send it all back to him at his new e-mail address. So he is back in to his e-mail again and a happy camper again - well almost.

jan said...

"The 'only' way I stay off sweets is to not bring them in the house."

Chloe, that used to work for me too before I met John. He brings them in and then I can't resist them. Truly, I did not have a weight problem before we met.

jan said...

I always keep healthy things to eat too in the fridge but when I have a craving - I will eat the sugary stuff before the healthy stuff if it is around.

Carol said...

Chloe, I did see the comments from the previous post. I have Iphoney with me and can check in. Don't get good reception at the jail but I have to go from one area to another, where I do get reception.

Chloe, I can't still understand why I couldn't see those comments on Iphoney. It's not the same Internet server. It will just have to be a mystery.

I'm not sure how I feel about Maddow. I'm not that crazy about her cutsy side or her snarky side. I take my Dylan, he's more up my alley.

Carol said...

Chloe, there almost no way you can totally protect yourself from getting screwed. I have to go with my intuition to a certain extent and write up an agreement. I'm considering everything Coreen has mentioned.

This lady would more likely be someone who is a victim rather than out to get anyone. I trust that I won't take advantage of her because I'm a good person.

I've had lots of roommates in the past and never really had any serious problems.

Carol said...

What do you guys think of the outcome of those elections?? I'm not crazy about Specter. Can't trust someone who swings both ways to try to get elected. Don't know much about Lincoln but did like her idea to limit derivitives. Didn't Solar like Rand Paul?

Carol said...

It is obvious that people are fed up but I also hope they are doing their homework and that there are good choices out there.

Carol said...

Sure glad I finally got off that bacon. Used to eat it for breakfast every weekday but quit that a good while back. I do wonder what they saute those country fries in. That is what I switched to. They are so good that it might be bacon or sausage grease. That might be the problem. I seldom even eat meat anymore.

I heard that news story on C2C last night. I was listening to the program from Monday or actually early Tuesday morning. George had James Van Praagh on. I heard some of the program before falling asleep and will go for more of it again tonight. I like almost everything he believes.

jan said...

I don't know enough about the political candidates to make an intelligent observation about them. I learn a lot from all of you. I have always liked Blanche Lincoln. I voted for her for the Senate while living in Ark. She always made a lot of sense to me. Lately, the dems have been pretty unhappy with her. John wants her out and I want her in. So we are a house divided on her. As for the others I will keep my eyes and ears open.

Carol said...

This is what most of my diet consists of...the country taters on the weekday mornings, PB and J on whole grain wheat for lunch, in the evening a combination of, salad, cantaloupe, broccoli, spinach, a nut raisen mix, salmon (several days a week). Nothing scary there is there?

Carol said...

What is it that John doesn't like about Blanche, Jan?

Anonymous said...

Carol, that sounds like a perfect diet. Maybe a little light on calories though. No wonder you lost 10lbs pretty quickly. Do you still want to lose more weight?

Anonymous said...

Jan, I don't follow politics anymore either.

I'm glad that John has his email up and running again.

... well, I just poked my head in here, and couldn't keep my mouth shut. But Emma's been staying up a little later now, so I need to get with it, to make sure I keep up with my evening stuff.

Carol said...

Just heard, on Dylan Ratigan, that Dodd voted no to break up the banks, no to break up cops and crooks, and voted no to break up Fed secrecy. Why, pray tell?? He had the single biggest ties to bank lobbyist of anyone who serves in our Senate. Five of his former staffers now work as lobbyists. He has taken in 3.9 million dollars this election cycle and he isn't running for re-election. A senior advisor on his banking committee was a former banker from JP Morgan Chase and City Group, the home of American credit casino. Further evidence of a conflict of interest, his chief council was buying up stock at the bailed out banks at the heart of the financial meltdown at the same time they were drafting policy to bailout the banks.

Now if this doesn't cause you to become irrate, then nothing will.

Coreen said...

Carol, I missed that you lost 10#, that's really good....wouldn't mind losing just 5...

And as far as your roommate idea...I'm sure your intution is good, & hopefully your trusting nature will prove correct...there are some roommate agreements that you can check out by just googling the sites, just to get an idea of the different issues that may be of
interest to your situation, as to what's ok
what's not....don't have to buy them, just
look over the different ones for anything that
rings a bell to your situation...

Carol said...

Jan, there are a few other things sprinkled in my diet. I had a little package of M&M chocolate peanuts that someone gave me at work today. Sometimes some popcorn at night. That no fat, no sugar ice cream twice last week. Hey, I don't fess up to everything.

Coreen said...

Ok, comments say 21, & what I wrote a couple of minutes ago was there...when I left & came
back it says 21, but when I pressed the 21 comments, it says 17 & what I posteed is missing...so it's not just you Carol....

Coreen said...

And then when I pressed post comment, my 3:35 p.m. (actually 6:35 pm) was not visible, but after the 2nd comment posted, it was there...go figure!

Coreen said...

As for Blanche Lincoln, don't know what the
reasons for John/Jan's view of her...but here's
a good summary of why the liberal left is out
to get her.....& they may just succeed in the
runoff election since she failed to get 50%....
but some say doesn't really matter since whatever dem wins the nom, will lose to the repub in Nov.
Whats next for
runoff bound Sen. Blanche Lincoln

Coreen said...

It's still happening...24 comments, press it & it says 17 & those I posted aren't there, the last comment showing is Chloe's at 3:27 pm, but once I press post comment I can see all those I posted....

Chloe,

Can't repeat this good news enough...I love it that both party's are on the run....super glad about Rand Paul....and hope that the tea party grows into a real party....When it was just a start up...I said that some person like ex sen. Chuck Hagel or someone like gov. Randel would be the head of it....but I will take the tea party if it helps to clean out this shits we have in there now.!!!

Jan,

I have two emails that I like. one is g-mail, and the outher Yahoo.....now that you R a big Yahoo....when u open it up.....instead ( love this) of pointing for your mail...just use the M key on your Key Board....it will open it up for you....Big John will like it, it he does....let me know....will bill him....

Solar said...

The words that we chose sometimes makes things harder to accomplish...I tell people never to say that they are on a diet...just cut down on the cals..and start an exercise program...that's all that's to it.!!

Jan has the right idea....eat what u want...in moderation..and exercise...going for a nice piece of chocolate canoli........

John says Blanche Lincoln really tried to screw up the health care bill and seems to be a crony of the big corporations. If any of you know different, let me know.

Heard a cute joke today Solar. Don't know if it will post though.

A kid asked his dad for a new bike and dad says, I'm sorry son but we can't afford to get you a new bike. We owe 250 thousand on the house and mom lost her job today.

The next morning the kid is leaving for school with his suitcase packed. Dad asked kid, where are you going with that suitcase son? Kid says, dad, I went by your bedroom last night and heard you tell mom you were pulling out. I heard mom say, no wait, I coming, and if you both are leaving, I'm not staying here alone with a 250 thousand dollar mortgage and no bike!

Carol said...

Blogger still censoring!

Testing, testing....has several posts erased.! Finally had something important to say...now I forgot what i was....

Alright some of you more computer savvy people, what is going on with this blog. I don't really believe in blog ghosts but I hope Ivy hasn't see this. She doesn't like this kind of craziness. She might never come back. Maybe she already won't. Seems like she would have at least said Hi by now. Maybe she is trying to kick a bad addiction, this blog.

Carol said...

Solar, Chloe, have any thoughts here. It's not just me and all that turning off you computer ain't gonna do the trick even though I tried. Only thing that makes sense is that the blog has some kind of censorship where comment can get hung up. Nothing else makes any sense, at least nothing earthly.

The comments are here, there gone, there back, people can only only read theres. There are different comments on each commuter. Some comments come through, some do not. What explains all that????

Someone who manages this Blogger program is jacking with us.

Carol said...

Maybe they are trying to run us off???

Carol said...

If you are tuning into the last comment here, better go back and re-read all of the comments. I think all or most of them are back. Maybe it was a test to see if any of us were borderline nuts. I passe,d I'm still here, swinging from a tree, but still here.

Carol said...

And does everyone see all the comments, from Solar, Jan, Mary, Coreen and me?? Everyone also saw the craziness so you can't blame it on me being psychotic. And did you like my joke Solar??

Carol said...

And Coreen and Chloe, I understand your concerns about my roommate deal. I think my new roomie is more afraid than I am. She fears that this deal is too good to be true and that I might pull the rug out from under her. I understand that. It is an unusual offer but as a roommate, I can have my cake and eat it too.

Coreen said...

Ok, hoping this posts this a.m.

There is a help forum for blogger accessed by
pressing the 'report abuse' at the top left of
the site...

There are many comments there that the same is
happening to others on blogger...the non-answer
posted there is that 'blogger is working on it'
but no explanation as to when or how it the
loss of comments can be corrected.

Right now it is beyond our control to fix it...

jan said...

Hi all, so good to see most everyone back again. I have gone back and read most of comments for this post. Carol, are some of your comments still missing. Everything I have written is here. I am probably the only one that does not comment on political stuff. I suspect Ivy is just really busy with her mom visiting.

Carol said...

Jan, mine are all back. They trickled in one by one.

Carol said...

Coreen, glad to know that it's not just us. I tried a Blogger problem site last night and when I hit on it to pull it up , my computer went nuts. I got outta there real quick.

Carol said...

With us all dependent on our computers, one thing that I ponder and fear is the possibility of cyber terrorism. All that fast trading crap on Wallstreet that they have set up to make a fast buck and screw us could led to someone getting in to the system and crippling our entire financial system. Maybe what happened recently was a hint of it???
