'Green' exercise quickly 'boosts mental health'

Carol! Found out why you feel so much better living in your tree house on the river (and me near my forest):

Just five minutes of exercise in a "green space" such as a park can boost mental health.....

"There is growing evidence that combining activities such as walking or cycling with nature boosts well-being.

In the latest analysis, UK researchers looked at evidence from 1,250 people in 10 studies and found fast improvements in mood and self-esteem

The research looked at many different outdoor activities including walking, gardening, cycling, fishing, boating, horse-riding and farming in locations such as a park, garden or nature trail.

The biggest effect was seen within just five minutes.

Green and blue
A bigger effect was seen with exercise in an area that also contained water - such as a lake or river.

Study leader Jules Pretty, a researcher at the University of Essex, said those who were generally inactive, or stressed ........... would probably benefit the most from "green exercise". http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8654350.stm

You have the best of both world Carol: Green and blue.

New Insights Into How Omega-3 Fatty Acids Reduce Inflammation Also Hints at Novel Disease Treatments

"Scientists at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine went on a molecular fishing trip and netted a catch of new mediators that not only can explain how omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation, but also hint at novel treatments for a host of diseases linked to inflammatory processes.

There is strong evidence that eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as some fish, plant-derived oils and nuts, or taking omega-3s as a dietary supplement reduces inflammation and lowers the risk of illness and death from cardiovascular and other inflammatory diseases......

By interacting with certain protein residues that have electrons available for chemical binding, these derivatives stimulate changes in cellular protein function and the genetic expression patterns of cells, resulting in a broad range of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory responses.

There is a lot of evidence that supports minimizing inflammation as a fundamental therapy for many diseases" http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/05/100502173503.htm?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+sciencedaily+%28ScienceDaily%3A+Latest+Science+News%29

... now all we have to do is figure out how much to take (or what and how much to eat).

Coreen said...

Not sure about that exercise in the park boosting mental health claim...but why not...
whatever works....

I do know that 'green' is the color here...this
was the week that all the trees decided to
burst into full coverage....it's a true marvel
that those bare dreary looking
trees can each year return to their lush,
green beauty....the cycle of living things repeats itself so wonderfully...and the beauty
that surrounds us may indeed boost our well being...so never, ever argue with mother nature....

Coreen said...

And from previous comments...

Yes, I saw Conan O'Brien...not impressed, not
even sure what the purpose of the clip was...if
it was to get sympathy for his abrupt dismissal
from nbc....he did alright...& since never
watched him before, not likely that anything
he said would cause me to watch him now...

As far as the dr. that says no milk, etc...sorry but I'm just not buying it...don't even try to stop me from drinking milk...

Coreen said...

And since vitamin D is the in crowd vitamin today anyway...no surprise with talking it up
over the former 'in' vitamins....

Always wonder just who's paying these people for their endorsements...

Carol said...

Wonderful post Chloe. I think most of us live in an area that meets the criteria for the green and water. Some may have to walk a little way to get to it but that adds to that exercise.

Coreen, you have both green and water in your own yard, just get outside and walk. Your driveway meets the criteria.

I have always been attracted to both green and water. I had to have the pool at my house for the water. I really am not a big swimmer but I wanted the water for ambiance. It's a nice shade of green right now so it meets both criteria.

I'm trying to decide what to do with it. I'm not one who can easily just throw away something that I have put so much money into but in order to keep it up I have to keep putting money into it. I need to have it emptied and cleaned if I want to keep it. Also I'm thinking that if I do that I will switch it over to a salt water pool. I think that might be easier to maintain. I'm gonna call someone this afternoon to get an estimate.

Carol said...

I'll tell you didn't pay that Dr. with the milk info, Coreen. It certainly wasn't the diary association. Mary would also fight you for her milk. She's got milk in just about everything she eats but she is also an orthopedic nightmare so.....

I just made a deal for cleaning, changing my pool to salt system and for maintanance. I think I'll keep it for a little longer. I hope they can get it done before my older sis gets here. She loves to swim. It will be a costly swim.

The heat has arrived here with avengeance. My truck said 92 on my way home today. It was only 60 when I left this morning. Yuk. The pool is sounding better.

Coreen said...

Carol, the wetlands where the ducks swim
already drying up....that's why I think they
only visit for a short time...

As far as your swimming pool, if you do get
it drained, cleaned & filled...maybe that would
provide you the exercise in nature, a regular swimming routine....just a thought...by the way, do people swim in the river or are there unwanted predators lurking so as not to swim?....

did you tell us there are alligators there, I forget?

here a swimming pool is like a 3 month event...usually not more...Memorial day to labor day....I do have a friend that pushes it
well into October but she is a water baby...she's the person who has one of her pitbulls laying on his own raft in the pool....

Coreen said...

Thankfully, I am not yet an ortho nightmare, but I'm sure that could change...I must have a
glass of cold white milk(the real deal) every night before I go to sleep....the best....such a creature of habit..

And I do love my gorgy cheese on salads...

I think that re-doing your pool may be just the
right thing....perfect motivation for that
exercise routine that I for one continue to try
off & on...more off than on.

Your 92 is why I don't like the south, Florida in particular, where other than Jan. & Feb, forget about it, its humid or windy most of the time,..and would I be incorrect in saying it is a humid 92...& humid or not, 85 & up is
just plain hot....

For what it's worth yesterday was in the
mid 80s here & very humid, today it rained but
is still humid...had to put the ac on, luckily
I dusted & opened the ac registers Saturday, in
anticipation...the ac is still running today...it should not be ac weather here this early...but our weatherguy Jeff, says by the weekend onlyin the 50s....go figure...

Carol said...

Coreen, it says humidity is 14%. We had a little front come thru. That's very unusual to have such a low humidity. I wonder if that is a mistake?? It does feel like a dry heat. Usually it's around 100%. Low dew point and the low tonight will be 59. Better enjoy that while I still can. I've had my AC on for a while now.

Yes, lots of people swim in the river, especially kids, but not this little duck. I used to when I was a kid and the water quality was much worse back then. Yes, there are gators here, remember the pic I posted? I've not heard of any causing any problems in the river but I don't swim anywhere I can't see my feet and what might be swiming around them.

Carol said...

It's not like you see many gators but if you watch long enough, you might see one cuise by occasionally. They don't hang out much in the main river. I can go for long periods without seeing one.

Coreen said...

Needless to say, no way would I be able to live
anywhere near your river, allis cruising by!!!!, not in this lifetime...not only your allis but those many varieties of snakes you guys have....I'm a CT Yankee for sure....

Coreen said...

Think you'll like this little NYT piece...about
raising a puppy....don't remember any series 'the puppy diaries' before, but
pretty sure you guys may be able to relate to
some of what is said....us cat people can't relate since felines rule the roost & do only
what they want, when they want..

At a year old, a few small lessons are left

Carol said...

Alright little sister, here's the facts. You have snakes and poisonous bones to boot.

Snakes in Connecticut

Carol said...

Scary, slithery, snakes! Run Coreen, run.

Carol said...

That was supposed to be poisonous ones, not poisonous bones. Well, maybe you have some poisonous bones also.

Carol said...

Remember, they are more afraid of you than you are of them. Maybe not, in your case.

Carol said...

Ut oh. Coreen is standing on a table somewhere.

Coreen said...

Are you trying to ruin my night!!!Had to stop
looking at the article...

I know they are in the vicinity, I walk carefully & look around all the time...& hope we don't meet up....

Now I need to go put together my big salad!!!

And the wood duck couple was just in the yard
for evening snack, together with my cardinals
I have at least 3 really red ones & their mates, & woody was out there too...

Coreen said...

'Ut oh. Coreen is standing on a table somewhere'...

If you ever watched Monk, that was a really funny scene in one of them....He jumped right up on a table when they thought one was out of its glass cage in a house they were investigating...I could relate....

Trust me playing golf was always an adventure,
when the ball went off towards any woods...and
once in Florida, I was walking toward my ball
near some water...I immediately went back...my
friend said what are you doing your ball is
over there...but she didn't know there was
a pretty long snake not far from the ball...I
took a penalty, no way was I going anywhere near it to hit or even pick up the ball....

Carol said...

Only two venomous species there, timber rattler and copperhead.

Carol said...

De nile is a river in Africa Coreen.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
What about the water moccasin?

Ivy Green said...

The saying is, "Denial AIN'T just a river in Egypt." lol

Carol said...

We're talking bout Coreen's snakes Ivy. She didn't think she had any up there in paradise. I had to pop her bubble Ivy. I had to. For her own safety.

Carol said...

It's in Africa also Ivy. I looked it up. I didn't want to get it wrong.

Carol said...

And Africa is easier for me to spell Ivy.

Carol said...

Jan Fonda has a new work out, at age 72. I bet I couldn't keep up with her.

Ivy Green said...

That ain't the only place it floods...

Carol said...

Maybe I should get it and keep telling myself she's a bit older than you are Carol.

Carol said...

Is there any flooding around your parts Ivy? I know there is north of you. Lake still in it's banks? Seen any snakes around you? Do you want me to link your snakes??

Coreen said...

Guys, I know there are snakes in CT...however,
the likelihood of seeing them here are somewhat less than in your neck of the woods....and as you pointed out there are suppossedly only 2 poisionous types...(which I have been told before) but I just don't like them, don't want to see them....

Coreen said...

Enough about snakes...you didn't like the NYT
story about raising the puppy....

Carol said...

Yes, I did like your story Coreen. It was sweet.

Coreen said...

And its DWTS time here in 'paradise' anyway....

Coreen said...

Does DWTS start at the same time there or an hour or 2 later?

Coreen said...

First up Erin & Maks....she did a good job...I think it was the quick step...

Ivy Green said...

Oh yes, we have snakes...

Coreen said...

Ok, Chad & Cheryl....he has improved a lot, a
very nice dance, but...their difference in height takes away from the flow...he's just not
quite smooth enough yet...

Carol said...

Yes, DWTS is on now Coreen. I'm judging and we must vote but don't wait too late.

I bet your snakes are similar to ours Ivy.

Carol said...

Coreen, I very seldom see any snakes up close and personal. I'm even surprised about that.

Coreen said...

And just so you know...my Yankees are just
scary good so far...if there is a game on, I am watching/listening...& there is tonight....thank god for that remote!....
but it's a long season & will just enjoy it til it gets closer to the fall...
and as the song says...keep it coming now....

Coreen said...

Derek & Nicole...that was just beautiful...
no question she is my fav....

Coreen said...

Boo! Carrie...& Bruno picky, picky...

Carol said...

I have my voting screen up and ready.

Carol said...

Of course my voting criteria is a tad different than the judges.

Carol said...

I think they were surprised they didn't get 10s.

Carol said...

Well, Pam is getting points with me. I talking about that wildlife center.

Coreen said...

Boy, I thought Pamela was pretty good...she has
improved lots as well....but the judges are
picky....

I disagree about Derek & Nicole...I think they
were expecting less of a score not more...after
bruno & carrie ann's comments

Carol said...

I guess Jan is swimming into her honey's heart right now.

Coreen said...

It's really something how much all of the celebs dancing has improved...

Neicey & Louie's quickstep was really enjoyable...

Carol said...

As far as accomplishments go, Niecy probably made the biggest one tonight! You must consider what someone has to work with, she doesn't have that sleak dancer's body and how far they come from where they started.

Carol said...

Interesting how differently we precieve things.

Coreen said...

Evan & Anna....another of my favs...he pulled
it off very well...& I think it is more difficult for the celeb guys, since they have to lead....surprised that the judges found nothing to pick at for Evan

Coreen said...

Wow - 3 10s.....

Carol said...

I didn't care for Evan's dance. Too staccato.

Coreen said...

If I may, would I be correct in saying that
so far your favs are Neicey & Pamela? While you have not said so directly, that is how
I perceive your comments...

You already know who my favs are....

Carol said...

Yes, for very different reasons. I think Evan and Nicole had advantages the other didn't have.

Carol said...

Nicole has a great partner.

Coreen said...

Pretty sexy routine...I think they were great...

Carol said...

I like Chad also.

I like Nicole's pro the most.

Coreen said...

I think Derek is just a really great choreographer as well as a terrific dancer...so
yes pairing Nicole with Derek has proven a
great couple....

Carol said...

Are you voting Coreen?

Coreen said...

By the way, on a different note, have/are you
sending a pic to Craig for the TM video this
year...I haven't yet, but plan to this week...

Carol said...

Ivy, you don't like DWTS? It does grow on ya. Oh, I forgot, it's Ivy's girl's night out.

Coreen said...

Oh didn't vote yet, when I cheeked it said I
could vote 6x & it was open until 11 a.m. eastern tomorrow, but I will do it now...

Carol said...

What pic should I send? Maybe the one of little Vertigo standing on his basket?

Coreen said...

Not really sure who I would say is the celeb to be cut....after my 2 favs...they all seem
pretty evenly matched.....

Coreen said...

Now while not so hot & sexy as the first 3, this group is sassy, fun, like madonna's song
says more of a celebration....much more what 'regular' folks would dance like....

Carol said...

I'm amazed at how well all of them can do with all the other things they have to do.

Carol said...

Coreen, it is usually closed 30 minutes after the show so don't wait.

Carol said...

I did my duty.

Carol said...

Coreen, where do we send the pic for TM?

Coreen said...

the 30 minutes may be for phone voting...I tried on the computer & it froze up twice...I'll try again in a few....

The TM pic...I'll have to go back to an earlier post & find the email address....

Carol said...

I get those emails from Craig. Is that the email to send it to?

Coreen said...

Carol, & everyone else who may have missed
Craig's request for pics for the TM video...here's the email address to send a pic...soon....

"craig, is it too late to contribute to this year's tm photo vid?" -- posted by patd

Nope, but everybody needs to get on it. I set a flexible May 15 deadline so that I can get the video done in time for our June 5 anniversary.

Prefer self-pics but send whatever you want (be sure to include your TM screen name) to cqtrailmix@verizon.net"

Ivy Green said...

I sent a pic to TM last time. This time around, I don't contribute enough to warrant being included, I would not feel right to expect it.

Usually, I am not home to see Monday TV. I stayed home tonight from my ladies group because Meg is sick and Hubs is out of town. I didn't want to leave her alone for that many hours.

Coreen said...

Ivy,

I think Craig & those at TM would want to include everyone, regardless of the amount of contributions on a daily/regular basis...

Is Meg ill from something specific...

Carol said...

Give Meg a little kiss for me and tell her to get well soon.

Carol said...

It's kinda like telling everyone we are Craig's fans and we still are. I just don't have much profound to offer.

Carol said...

I just saw a commercial for McDonald frozen Frappee with whipped cream and chocolate syrup on top. Sure wish someone would bring me one. I'm hankering for a desert and don't have nothing. Nothing!

Carol said...

Well, I don't have any dessert either.

Carol said...

Well, my dessert options are like a desert.

Coreen said...

Should I take a guess that any fast food place
is a distance from your house...so you can't do a late night run for a snack?...For me, it would take about 20-30 minutes to get to a
fast food place....

A frozen frappee w/whipped crea & choc. syrup...reminds me that I haven't had a choc.
milkshake in quite awhile...

Maybe a veggie burger, fries & a choc. milkshake....my kinda lunch...years ago that would have been a hamburger or a long hot dog (mustard & relish)(grilled so it was a little burned) fries & a shake...

Carol said...

And I can sense that you are running for the Blue Bell Ivy.

Carol said...

Thanks alot for that visual Coreen.

Coreen said...

Time to say good night all...

Hope I didn't make you more hungry Carol...

And Ivy, hope Meg feels better....

Coreen said...

quick update re: times square bomb attempt...late local news in CT saying the alleged suspect may be from CT, of pakistani descent, may be the person who bought the suv that was loaded with explosives...also the claim of responsibility for the attempt that was posted on the internet also appears to have come from CT...

Hope they get this guy/guys fast...a real csi at work....

Carol said...

Sounds interesting Coreen. I'll keep tuned. Not good though that he or they came from CT. See, I told you have snakes in CT.

I was almost asleep but listening to the Colbert Report with half an ear when I heard him introduce Elizabeth Warren as his guest. Well I had to wake up the the other ear and a half to listen. She was good. She was able to keep up with Colbert's fasting talking double talk and get in some good points and do it with humor. That's not easy to do with what they were discussing. I recommend you catch her, on one of the reruns, that come on multiple times tomorrow, during the day, on Comedy Central.

Well back to trying to fall asleep again. I'll do it this time with C2C. I think the program is "Evil, Lies and the Human Psyche".

"David Kupelian, managing editor of WorldNetDaily, discussed how the human psyche is exploited by criminals, terrorists, politicians and marketers, as well as why some celebrities go haywire." That will probably knock me out for sure.

Nite.

Carol said...

I went outside, one more time, to say goodnight to my river and there were my ducks, camped out on the wharf, keeping guard. I'm safe.

Carol said...

Oh, and BTW Chloe, George just mentioned your topic today, about the study on exercising in green space boosting mental health. You'd like him too. This is last night's program.

Coreen said...

Looks like they nabbed the slimeball in the NYC bomb attempt...was a naturalized pakistani, became a citizen a year ago....who had lived in Shelton & until yesterday in Bridgeport, CT(both neighboring towns)...as he was about to fly off on an Emmirate flight to dubai, then pakistan....abc is reporting that a couple of others were taken off the plane as well, but not known if they are part of this....

Great CSI work, but the sad fact remains of not if but when one of these islamic terrorists (and no way they are anything but, contrary to the attempt by this administration to repeatedly downplay these efforts) succeeds...

Coreen said...

Will try to remember to find the colbert show
with Elizabeth Warren...curious if she mentioned the latest twist...the effort to
have banks spin off the derivatives trading
(the blanche lincoln amendment) may be
headed for oblivion.....pretty sure your
guy dylan is convinced this is one of the absolute necessary items to have any meaningful
reform....(so far only saw this in a Reuters
report..not being picked up yet by our so-called main stream media)

Swaps desk ban seen fading from bank reform

I put everybody to bed early last night, and myself too "cuz it was the best way to keep me away from the Blue Bell. When Hubs is away, the kitchen is closed. I need to lose 20 pounds in one week.

Meg has a list of ailments a mile long, starting with she's eleven. She can't fight off infection any longer.

Anonymous said...

Hi Ivy,
I hope that by "the kitchen is closed", you don't mean you're not eating at all. Also, hope you were kidding about losing 20 pounds in a week. The best way to do it is to lose 20 pounds in about 20 weeks. That way you won't have to starve yourself, and the weight usually stays off, because of the change of eating habits that gets ingrained into your brain.

You start feeling better after losing the first couple of pounds, then you're on a roll. Better to ease into it.

I'm sorry that Meg is having such problems with her health, and hope she's feeling better soon. She's lucky to have such a good 'mom' looking after her.

Anonymous said...

Carol, I went to 'Coast-to-Coast', but can't listen to the show, because I haven't subscribed, but I looked up David Kupelian (because I was curious, after you mentioned the show 'Evil, Lies and the Human Psyche) and see he wrote some books on the subject:

"The Marketing of Evil reveals how much of what Americans once almost universally abhorred has been packaged, perfumed, gift-wrapped and sold to them as though it had great value. Highly skilled marketers, playing on our deeply felt national values of fairness, generosity and tolerance, have persuaded us to embrace as enlightened and noble that which all previous generations since America's founding regarded as grossly self-destructive—in a word, evil." The Marketing of Evil: How Radicals, Elitists, and Pseudo-Experts Sell Us Corruption Disguised As Freedom

I'm going to check out WorldNet daily also: "David Kupelian is the managing editor of WorldNetDaily.com, the world's largest independent news Web site. He is also a widely read online columnist and the driving force behind the acclaimed monthly news magazine Whistleblower."

Anonymous said...

... wow, just reading the headlines there is scarey. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=55660&fa=PAGE.view

I don't think I can stomach it this morning.

Anonymous said...

I looked at Whistleblower too. I don't know if I just can't handle things this morning, or maybe there really is a reason our news services sugar coat things. More scary headlines.

I'm going to wait until later today, and go read some of it.

(maybe I really do need to bury my head - my bad?)

Coreen said...

Chloe,

a note of caution...while I am not familiar
with the person Carol heard on C2C, I do know
that world net daily is considered by the
left wing contingent & much of the so-called MSM as extremely right wing, wacko, & every negative, derogatory adjective you can use to describe it...my only point being... if you
were to find anything you found interesting &/or informative & referenced it elsewhere, you
would in all likelihood be bombarded with attacks of how absolutely wrong is anything said there....

Anonymous said...

Thanks Coreen.
No wonder it looked so extreme to me. I won't go back.

Solar said...

Chloe,

Every time that I have read that rag...it reminds me of Max...but I do read it b/c one has to see where this type of stuff comes from.!!!

What I try to do is to find other infromation about the subject...but from other sources that are a little more honest....but it interesting to see how terrorism is used for everything that they want to talk about.....will look up something up...one of the little captains just whispered it to me......

Carol said...

Hi guys. I couldn't tell, with what I heard of that guy last night, which way he leaned. He was discussing how those in power use fear to manipulate behavior. He talked about Hitler and the Rewandan Genocide and even the recent Swine flu fiasco.

I did fall asleep after a short while, believe it or not, and so I want to listen again when I'm awake. It was interesting and so very true in the fact that fear is used to keep people from using their better judgement. It can make them do things that they wouldn't do under normal circumstances, even very evil things you wouldn't think they were capable of. He did mention that factions of our government use this tactic often.

Knowing you guys, I think you could agree with much of what I heard. I haven't looked at any of his websites and didn't hear it all.

I think I can still keep my better judgement, even when scared shitless, but maybe not my bowel or bladder control.

Carol said...

With my staying up late last night listening to all those interesting things, I got up late. I forgot to turn on my alarm. When I woke up this morning it took a few seconds to realize it wasn't the weekend and I had to get it in gear.

Haven't heard anything yet about the terrorist incident except what you wrote Coreen. Did just hear the Pres say that his arrest proves the system works. From what little I know, it seems to prove that a higher power was watching over us and I mean a much higher power than our government. The police must have gotten on top of it fast, also.

If that bomb would have gone off, destroying much of the evidence, things wouldn't be so good.

Coreen said...

Carol,

I was not making a judgment on the person you listened to from C2C....

but rather responding to Chloe's linking to a well known very right wing website WND, which has a particular slant on all things they cover...(just as most sites do in reality)...& cautioning that if she found something of interest, she should proceed judiciously, as mentioning something found at WND would in all likelihood draw a quick very negative dismissal, such as from most at TM (who for the most part are left leaning liberal in the
views expressed).....

I certainly know that you possess very good
judgment & did not intend in any way to infer
that you do not.....

Solar's comments about WND...he has a point of
view about WND & stated it....

Carol said...

Do any of you find it interesting that just when we have this major financial crisis come up for a fix, with most Americans really invested in the need for a fix and watching, we have two major distracting crises come up, the oil well explosion and the terrorist plot. Hmmmmmmm, not suggesting any connection but it is something to ponder.

Carol said...

I know that Coreen. I try not to prejudge just because some leans one direction or the other. I like to get opposing views. I have often even thought that Max made good sense even though I certainly don't buy everything he says.

Last night George asked that guy about how do you know what/who to trust and the guy responded with you have to use your intuition. I liked that answer. That is sometimes the only thing we have left to use. Get as many facts as you can and then do a gut check.

Coreen said...

Yes, there was much luck/providence/higher power/whatever you wish to call it, involved in the quick arrest of this slug....

Had he been successful in causing mayhem, he may have escaped the U.S. & punishment...

The latest unanswered question is how he managed to board the Dubai flight, when they
are saying his name was on the no fly list from
the night before....

I am more unhappy about his being allowed to
become an american citizen...some reports claim
the woman he married was an American...but can not confirm that...he & the wife also was in the process of being foreclosed by Chase Bank for a mtge on a house in Shelton, CT....

And so everyone knows where I am coming from...
once you stand at that immense hole in the
ground in NYC, your view on any understanding/mercy/sympathy/whatever some may try to explain the actions of these cretins) is instantly removed...

Ha Carol and Coreen, Now that I look at the track that I was on this morning, I can't help but laugh.

I agree Carol, the things he says in his book (from what little I saw when I looked it up) look very interesting, and I found much of it true. Too bad I followed through on looking at his website, because that what scared the hell at me. To tell the truth, I was relieved when Coreen told me not to take the website seriously. There were some scary headlines there. Do you know what would have happened at TM, if I had made the mistake of linking that. I would have been slaughtered... massacred, and never forgiven.

(.... like I care :)

Carol, I'm glad you brought up the idea of us being manipulated and brain washed. He's right about that part, and I completely believe we have been.

I wonder if Solar ever found the info he went looking for. I'll check back in a while.

Carol said...

I may not have personally seen the hole but the image of those building going up in smoke and crumbling to the ground will forever live in my memory. I'm the same way you are about trying to keep and open mind, no matter who's talking Carol. I can agree with some of it, and completely disagree with the rest. Once people become fanatical, it's hard to take them seriously though.

Meg 'IS' lucky to have you guys Ivy. You're a great mom.

I can't download the plug in to play the video Coreen (it just comes up for vista and xp, and don't have time to continue searching right now), but I think it's like one we have for Emma that's a dog and flips over and over. It's hilarious, but scares her. We'll bring it back out when she's a little older.

Ivy, you guys are very special pup parents. We all here certainly understand and appreciate your efforts.

Carol said...

I couldn't see it either Coreen. It said I needed Active X but the last time I tried to download that, I had some kind of warning and chickened out. Does it flip over and over. I got Maggie and Mary's dog a rollin Hedgehog from Wally World. They both like it. They can turn it on and off by biting or pawing on it.

Chloe, I'm interested in what Solar was looking for also. He has a good gut on him, meaning intuition because I actually haven't seen his literal gut. I have both kinds of guts. I'm working on getting rid of the literal one.

Ivy, don't try to lose too much too fast. It ain't healthy. I've lost about 7 lbs since we started all this healthy stuff and I do still go nuts occasionally. Have to have some rewards.

Part of a post that I made over at tm:

I am not one of those that want to discount history, or completely ignore it.!! and think that what U posted is fine...but it needs to be followed up by those that can reach the masses; in the whole country!! Maybe it's time for what ever comes by telling the truths..... The "haters" don't even know when they are being manipulated...this comes to mind about how difficult it is to overcome this type of thinking:

"The receptivity of the great masses is extremely limited, their intelligence is small, their forgetfulness enormous. Therefore all effective propaganda must be limited to a very few points and should be slogans until the very last man in the audience is capable of understanding what is meant by this slogan. As soon as one sacrifices this basic principle and tries to show the many facets of a problem, the effect is frittered away, for the masses can neither digest nor retain the material offered to them. Thus the results are weakened and finally canceled out altogether......

The people in their overwhelming majority are so feminine in their nature that sober reasoning motivates their thought and behavior far less than feeling or emotion.

Their feelings are not complicated, but very simple and complete. They do not have many varieties of shading, only love or hate, right or wrong, truth or lie, never half this and half that, or partially, etc....

The art of all truly great national leaders has at all times primarily consisted of this: not to divide the attention of a people, but to concentrate that attention on a single enemy. The more unified the fighting spirit of a nation, the greater the m agnetic attraction of a movement, the more forceful the power of its thrust. It is part of the genius of a great leader to make it appear as if even the most distant enemies belong to the same categories; for weak and fickle characters, if faced by many differed enemies, will easily begin to have doubts about the justice of their cause.

As soon as the vacillating masses see themselves in a battle against too many enemies, they will immediately succumb to an objective view, and ask whether it can be really true that everybody else is wrong, and that only their own people or their own movement is right.

But if that happens, the first paralysis of your own strength sets in. Therefore a great number of basically different enemies must always be described as be belonging to the same group, so that as fas as the m ass of your followers is concerned, the battle is being waged against a single enemy. This strengthens the belief in the rightness of your cause, and increases the bitterness against those who would attack it."

--------Hiltler

In view of Hitlers stunning success in convincing millions of Germans,......and considered one of the m ost literate, civilized peoples on earth, that anything wrong with them or their country was all of the fault of "the Jews"...an abstraction in which he included the Communist movement.!!! Looks like his description of the m inds of the masses was not far off........this has been studied by most politicians (or their handlers....Rove)....that shit J. McCarthy identified all of his targets with the ...."Red Menace, including Eisenhower and Gen. M arshall.

ps, Hitler also went after the Gypsies in Germany etc,...how come we never hear about them?? he killed about 150 k and more than that escaped him.......We need to keep reminding the people new and old..to the truths...that is why we never forget the Holocaust no? They won't let us.......how about the people that were here way before the ones that are here now, are we too embarrassed to talk about them...in a truthful way?

Carol said...

And there's nothing that I have been eating more of that I don't just love.

Solar said...

Chloe, Carol, that was what I was thinking about....hitler and the way that he is still around......

Carol said...

Interesting Solar. I learned more about Hitler last night.

Erin and Max in the bottom two. Yes, we do have to spend some time on trivial matters. Keeps us sane.

Carol said...

"Current federal law specifies only a limited number of reasons the government can cite to block the purchase of guns or explosives -- and being in the FBI's database of those "known or reasonably suspected of being involved in terrorist activity" isn't one of them"

I have to lose at least ten pounds before I can go back to my diet clinic. I can't let them know I gained weight.

Ivy Green said...

I'm going to have all kinds of insanity breaking out this week. My mother's coming.

Solar said...

Ivy,

I have the answer for U......wanna know?

Solar said...

Ivy tell them that U are taller. (~_*)

Carol said...

Ivy, don't forget to write "I love you mom" in the dust.

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
Sure...uh, answer to what??

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
You can fix my mother??? Wonderful!

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
Actually, they did measure me a half-inch taller. I figured it was from getting tortured on the rack at the Tower of London! lol

Solar said...

Ivy, U funny.....tell them that u are taller, and that will take care of the weight....later

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
My mom will not see any dust if I can help it! Even if I have to blindfold her...lol

Ivy Green said...

Casey's toast.

Carol said...

My Niecy is SAFE!

Carol said...

Why Ivy? I haven't watched.

Coreen said...

My guess is Erin & Max will be out....

Carol said...

I'm sure your favs are safe also Coreen. I heard Nicole is, have they mentioned Evan yet?

Carol said...

Just saw that Kate will be returning to dance on the May 24 show. I guess they wanted to give her some dough for the kids because who wants to see her dance again?

Ivy Green said...

Casey's been in the bottom three the last two weeks in a row. Tonight, he sucked singing Sinatra. Harry Connick, Jr. (guest mentor) tried to save it, but the judges all savaged him.

Coreen said...

I think they said both are safe, but not sure,
missing some of it, changing channels....

was pam missing tonite for some reason, they
did that hot chacha again & someone else was
dancing in her place....

After my 2 favs, I am hard pressed to really
choose which one should leave, they all deserve
so much credit

Ivy Green said...

None of them can do Sinatra.

Coreen said...

Only Sinatra could do Sinatra....

Coreen said...

Kate?!...what a waste...I really did not like
one thing about that woman....

Ivy Green said...

Except for Harry Connick, Jr. He's a good imitation Frank.

Ivy Green said...

Randy's pushing Big Mike. I don't know. There's only one Ruben, and we got him.

Coreen said...

Sorry Ivy, not really....I like Connick doing
Connick, not so much doing Sinatra....

Ivy Green said...

Coreen,
Harry Connick, Jr. is uniquely himself, for sure, but he evokes that aura of Sinatra. There's no one else today who does that.

Carol said...

Pam may get it tonight.

Carol said...

She did.

Coreen said...

Too bad Carol...she did a really good job, but
the way the judges were talking about Erin, sounds like they think she should be in the
final 3....

Ivy Green said...

Lee nailed it.

Ivy Green said...

Harry Connick, Jr. says our Alabama Theatre is haunted. It probably is.

Ivy Green said...

Does anybody watch "Glee?" That show is positively hysterical.

Carol said...

Guess so Coreen even though I don't care what the judges think.

Carol said...

Take some pics there Ivy and see if there are any orbs. Can you take pics in there?

Carol said...

When and what Network is Glee on?

Coreen said...

Our night has suddenly turned much nicer...the humidity seems to have broken..fresh air....no ac....

By the way, C2C guest tonight talking about
the search for ET life....I'll never make it
through since the show doesn't start here til
1 a.m.

and looks like we missed last night's doctor
who claims he has removed alien implants from
patients.....& no not 'illegal' aliens but the
real deal aliens from space.....

Carol said...

Does anyone know if Patsi was affected by the flood? That is a nightmare but with so many crises going on they have not gotten the proper attention and sympathy they deserve.

Coreen said...

At some point I remember she was at TM & said
she was ok, lost electricity at some point, but
that nearby flooding...

Her facebook posting is still current so I gues
she is still ok...

For some reason, I'm tired...so you guys have
fun...

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
Glee is on Fox right after Idol. It's so funny, it's hard to keep up...there's no time to laugh or you miss the next gag...!

Ivy Green said...

The final three on Idol will be Crystal, Lee and Ruben...er, Big Mike.

Casey got the ax tonight?

Carol said...

I'm in bed with alarm clock set! I'm back to finish up my C2C program that I started last night.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
Results show tomorrow night...Casey will get the axe...he knows it, too. He's ready. Same looks on the faces of those tortured people at the Tower of London.

lol

Ivy Green said...

Of course, it could be Aaron. Those two are going next in whichever order.

Carol said...

I finished the C2C program last night before falling completely asleep. Nothing I heard from the guy that was unreasonable. For one, if he tried to say anything too far right, George would reign him in. Then there's the callers. They are almost as cool as George and the programs is and sometimes more cool. George has an evolved audience.

When the guy tried to blame a few of the off beaten track spiritual groups, WICCA for one , of evil a caller who claimed to have studied them all and said he was a minister of one of the mainstream religious groups, called him on it saying it was the MS religious organizations that have perpetrated much evil in the past.

They all pointed out that all humans have a dark side. We do need to be aware of it and keep it in check.

Elizabeth Warren (aka, "Party Girl") coming up next on Morning Joe.

Carol said...

Listening. When Liz speaks, Carol listens!

Carol said...

She can explain complex financial things to us financial morons. I'm talking about me.

Carol said...

Did anyone catch her interview on Colbert? She's quick. I could just hug her.

Ivy Green said...

Morning Joe showed a clip of her Colbert appearance. Colbert used a quip that Hubs has used for many years..."Why do we need belts AND suspenders?" Elizabeth's quick reply was, "We don't even have pants!" lol
