Spirit, Heart, Mind, Body

My thoughts are mostly scattered this morning, and the target at the top of this thread pretty much tells you how I feel. Ha! Thought I'd put it up,

in case anyone else needs a target.

........... or, a little more positive (and productive) thinking:
"When all of our intentions and actions in daily life originate from the intuitive wisdom of our hearts, when we feel and act with sincere
appreciation caring and kindness for others – all qualities of the heart – and when we can observe the world around us without the preset judgments of the mind, but rather with the compassion in our hearts, then we will truly be living life from the heart. I finally gave up trying to comment yesterday - enjoyed everyone's posts, but every time I started to say something on the thread, something happened here (at the house) to stop me.

Glad to see you were here this morning Solar - and happy for you to have the work. I know how much you like working (and need it). There's something, that now more than ever, to really feel grateful for - work.

Hope to see you back here a little more when you get a break.

Ivy, Saw that you mentioned a new Julia Roberts movie: "Eat, Love, Pray" . Disappointed that it doesn't come out until August, but am looking forward to it. I may have to check out the book ahead of time. I hadn't even heard of it, and it was a best seller. Thanks for mentioning it to us.

"I think people who are extroverts can talk out their anxiety with others but I cannot. I find that I pull inward and try to deal with it by myself. If I try to talk about it with someone, It just gets worse for me. This is one of the ways I know that I am an introvert."

Jan, were you here when we had a lengthy discussion about introversion vs. extroversion. It was an interesting one, and it'd be nice to examine it a little further at some point. If I remember correctly, most of us here considered ourselves 'introverts'.

Now that I think about it Jan, I remember you 'were' part of that conversation. It was an interesting one.

"I didn't watch any of the war yesterday, instead I watched feel good movies. That improved my health. "

Smart decision Carol!
I didn't watch either -- I think they've been putting on a long, drawn out drama for us, and I'm not interested in watching.

Am curious to hear if it actually did anything for us in the 'immediate' future though.

Beautifully said Coreen - and I, for one, am ready. Good and ready!

Think I'm caught up, now I'd better catch up on some news too (against my better judgment).

Oh, and Mary, Hope nights is working out for you. Let us know how you're doing.

Chloe I was snipe haunting again...was busy doing my paper work that I didn't notice your new thread...great..and it follows some of the others...

I posted this over at tm..wanted to do it here also, I think that it fits in with what has been said...we ( I like very much) keep talking about the mind, how to make us happy with ourselves...I believe that we can do this only to a certain extent..to the extent that we realize that we are not that special...when it comes to other living things..just different animals with a better mind...when we think that we are special....that god created us in his image..that is where we go wrong..imo....in groups, and out groups...but this is part of who we are..we have always joined groups, and defend our selves, or attacked others....

I think that people have not changed all that much since time began...the R's (most of them) don't want any other group other than themselves...the in group to have what they have....

The fact that humans have an innate tendency to separate themselves into groups...... and exhibit hate against other groups. This can be done according to race or color by ethnicity; religious orientations geographical area, historical background, political views, language etc etc. The differences between the in-groups and the out-groups is what/how most of the world's conflicts started, and will most likely continue to do so in the foreseeable future.

Ok im going to hang my self......

Carol said...

Chloe, either that Targ stuff is starting to work or we've been hanging around each other too much.

I got home from of rough day at prison camp, knew it would be with the 48 calls I got this weekend, and was out pooping the dog. While I tried to patiently wait for the Maggot to do her stuff, I pulled up the blog on my Iphony. All I could see with the bright sunlight and itty bitty screen was Bang Your Head Here. I had to laugh. It was perfect. Haven't read any farther yet, still banging.

As much as we try to leave the garbage of the day behind, the stuff just wraps itself around your leg and hangs on. I kept saying, Carol, leave it there, leave it there but I couldn't shake it loose. It's a nice concept but I haven't yet acquired the skills. Maybe I can set up a little electric shock unit I can clamp on when I get home. I'll ask the boys next door to do that for me, if they will still talk to me after my fusing about their eternal bond fire.

Still banging! I'll get around to any suggestions you may have had in the post after I've lost a little consciousness.

Ivy Green said...

Wonderful thread, Chloe. I have to run off to my gang, but I know there will be interesting reading when I get home.

Another envelope came today in the mail for Miss College offering her promises of far-away places. Good to be "accepted," but unsettling too. Change is really going to happen.

jan said...

Chloe, I love your post and the "bang your head here" pic. Some good stuff to ponder for the next few days. Like Carol, I am still banging my head.

I was here for the introvert/extravert discussion. I am an INFJ - is that what you are also. I love being with individuals and with small groups - I don't like being in large groups. But I have to get off to myself after a few hours. Last Tues.I had my 6 students with me all day - even at lunch. I had a horrible headache by 3 pm. I like to come home for lunch and chill for an hour and then am ready to be with people again but without that respite - I am in bad shape.

jan said...

Ivy, have fun with your group tonight. Is Miss College going to grad school?

Carol said...

Jan, I have to have my few minute get away from the insanity also. I leave for lunch, drive about 8 minutes to the camp, make my PB&J sammich, wolf it down and drive back. Time out totals about 30 minutes and that is what makes it possible to make it thru the rest of the day. That blessed 30 minutes of silence. Unfortunately they often call me from the jail to ask me something and ruin it.

I am wondering if ET plans on helping to finance the health care of that lady, who wants to be the fattest women ever. Why do they spend so much time covering stuff like that. Kind of ironic in light of all the news of health care reform. I guess she may be the first to test that preexisting condition clause. She might be testing most of their new coverage guidelines. She'll need lots of coverage. Lots!

Carol, I laughed so hard when I read your post about seeing that target across iphoney's screen. Sorry I didn't have any suggestions on how to feel better, but I'd say to just find some way to escape, take it easy and try not to think - what I call regrouping, and I always need it after a bad experience. The rest of my post will be meaningless, until you're feeling better.

"... the day behind, the stuff just wraps itself around your leg and hangs on."

Your 'metaphorical' wording worked perfectly for me too - that's what Emma does to me much of the day - except 'literally'. :)

... sorry you had such a bad Monday (but aren't they all).

"Change is really going to happen."

Congratulations to your daughter (and you!) on her offers from more schools Ivy. Change is always such a good thing (but stressful too), and it's so great that she's has so many opportunities (and choices).

Sounds like you all have a lot to think about.

jan said...

Carol, you manage to do a lot in a 30 minute lunch period. The point is getting some time for yourself and away from the maddening crowd.

jan said...

Ivy, How wonderful for your daughter that she has many offers from "far away" places.

Carol said...

Well, I hope my little Iphony was not too damaged with all the trauma it received this afternoon.

The head banging did calm me down along with the walk Mag and I took. Then we feed the birds. I saw a Mr and Ms Mallard out swimming by the boats. We ran in and got some bread to feed them. They ate it up. I don't know where they came from but I saw them out there yesterday. They seem to be tame. Maybe they are someone out here's pets.

The evenings just fly by now. I need to work on my time management with the new time. I can get carried away outside before I realize it's getting late, then supper and it's time for my bedtime routine.

Maggie again brought bunny to bed. She was going for Mr Rooster but I said why don't you bring the bunny so she dropped Mr Rooster and went and got the bunny out of the window. She's not as dumb as I thought. Bunny has only lived her a few days so I wouldn't think she would know bunny's name. I guess I'm the dumb one.

Carol said...

Ivy, how many geographical options does Ms. College have to chose from for grad school? Hope she choses one that offers some interesting educational exploration opportunities for all of us. Tell her there's a lot weighing on the choice she makes. You have your people, lots of people involved.

jan said...

Carol, your Maggie is very intelligent if you can persuade her by talking to drop mr. Rooster and pick up miss bunny. You have given me a great laugh before bed.

How great that you lose track of time in the evenings feeding the ducks and catching up with nature and have to worry about managing your time. You are a rich woman.

jan said...

I just heard from a dear friend that her brother died yesterday. She and I have known each other since before we started grade school.
Good night.

"I can get carried away outside before I realize it's getting late, then supper and it's time for my bedtime routine. "

Carol, I agree with Jan - that it's great that you can lose track of the time while doing what you love.

In the movie 'As Good as it Gets', Jack Nicholson (who's character is Obsessive Compulsive) is always locking his front door over and over every time he closes it (all you hear is a repetitive click, click, click, over and over - many times, every time (and even worse when he's uptight). One of the most memorable scenes in the movie (for me) is when he's standing there staring at the door with such a perplexed look on his face, and someone asks him what's the matter. He says in such a meaningful, serious, surprised (and confused) way: 'I forgot to lock the door' - a 'very' touching moment in that movie. I can't think about that movie, without remembering that moment. It said so much.

... the moral of the story. It's good to forget sometimes. I think some people care 'too' much.

Anonymous said...

Jan, So sorry to hear that your friend lost her brother yesterday. It's hard to know what to say when these awful things happen - not much you can say that's going to make anyone feel any better.

jan said...

Chloe, thank you for your kind words about my friend's loss of her brother.

I too loved the movie "as good as it gets." My ex had some OCD - not as bad as the character in the movie - but bad enough. The disorder is hard on the family the person lives with also. When going on a trip, he would have to check doors, windows and the kitchen range several times before we could get away. The boys and I would wait in the car while he checked everything. The house always had to be in good order. He did a lot of the cleaning and straightening of it. I have a nephew who also has the disorder - from the time he was a little kid everything had to be spotless in his room and in perfect order. He married but did not have children. He has his own business and is quite wealthy now. His home is perfect but he never entertains b/c he cannot tolerate the disorder involved in having people over. My observation of these 2 men is that do not enjoy life -Or maybe they do in their own way.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
I am certainly sorry to learn about your friend's brother. I was very mindful of life-and-death yesterday as it was the tenth anniversary of the passing of a good friend and colleague of mine. She seemed too young even then, and I am now the same age she was then. Also, it doesn't seem possible that much time had passed.

Ivy Green said...

And wowee - before I had even pressed the send button on the above, I got a text message with photo of a new early arrival in Texas...about two weeks early...my brother's newest grandchild, Dylan Sebastian!

Life is about Yin and Yang.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
lol...INFJ spoken here too!

Carol said...

Sorry about both of your losses Jan and Ivy. I must be tuned into that Universal sadness. Even though I don't recall anyone who died at this time, I'm feeling a touch of that sadness.

Carol said...

I liked the way that NBC ended their news tonight. It was with a returning Vet being reunited with his dog, Dozer. There's a group that puts Vet's dogs with a family to take care of them until their pet master returns from the war. They showed Dozer and his human pet getting back together. Sweet.

Ivy Green said...

I didn't get to hear it, Carol. Hubs called right that moment to say he'd be late. Oh well.

Carol said...

Mr. and Ms M stopped by again this evening for their cracked wheat bread treat. My little menagerie is expanding every day.

I also just saw some itty bitty squirrels. There's a group of squirrels that hang out around here all the time. I feed my squirrels and they eat the seeds that the birds drop.

A while back I watched this squirrel breaking off limbs and put and pull them into this hole in the broken off top of a tree. It's a tree that the top ended up on the front roof of my camp during hurricane Rita. I figured the squirrel was building a nest. That must have been what she was doing. The younguns are cute.

Ivy Green said...

"Even a blind squirrel finds an acre once in a while."

A "Southern expression," no doubt, but one I never heard before last night.

Ivy Green said...

One of my friends near here reported three bluebird eggs in her bluebird box. Mine don't even have a nest yet.

Ivy Green said...

Our local Fox station has a promotional song for themselves by Taylor Hicks. It was good and he looks good. I guess one thing about premature graying is you'll never look older. lol

Carol said...

Whoever that girl is singing right now on Idol was terrible. I thought it was just me but she is getting her ass kicked from the judges.

Carol said...

Her name is Page.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
You're right...she was awful, her singing that is. She's beautiful, though, with mesmerizing eyes, but that won't keep her in the competition.

Ivy Green said...

Sounds like Crystal's going to perform Janis Joplin. That should be interesting. She's the reincarnation.

Carol said...

Didn't care for the guy who followed her either. I have only seen part of one show when some of the women were singing folk type songs. They were good.

Ivy Green said...

Aaron did good...and that was with laryngitis...Ellen asked if he's in third grade. lol

Carol said...

His illness did show IMO. Haven't been blown away yet.

Ivy Green said...

I think it took Crystal a minute to warm up, but she hit a home run...Ellen's comments are on target...

Carol said...

She does need a little more passion.

Carol said...

Maybe she is missing the drugs that go with that song. Too sober.

Ivy Green said...

This next guy up, Big Mike, is my favorite...

Carol said...

Anxiety is transmitted intrapersonally and I'm feeling it. They're all nervous tonight.

Ivy Green said...

Crystal's the one who's diabetic. I wonder if that can affect her performing.

Carol said...

Alvin is my favorite so far.

Carol said...

The chipmunk.

Ivy Green said...

Maybe lil' Miley is intimidating them...

Carol said...

Best vocals and performance so far.

Think they'll hire us to be judges?

Carol said...

Mike that is. I think it was a good choice but I don't really know him.

Ivy Green said...

If Mike and Aaron end up the finalists, it would be a rematch of Ruben and Clay...

Carol said...

I think we are better judges than they are.

Ivy Green said...

The judges are giving Mike a hard time...

Carol said...

Do you think it was a bad choice? What does Hubs think? Does he watch? Does he sing?

Ivy Green said...

I guess we need to be careful what we say in case Jan pops in. I hate that she has to see it an hour later...

Ivy Green said...

Hubs is out with his guy friends on most Tuesdays...I'll fill him in later...

Ivy Green said...

I thought Mike did better than the judges gave him credit for...

Carol said...

Jan can see what we write and add her PS later. It's not like it's a mystery and we're giving away the plot.

Ivy Green said...

I don't "get" Andrew...I still think they should have kept the other guy over him...

Carol said...

Maybe he could lose those glasses. Needs an image makeover.

Ivy Green said...

Simon hates him too...I don't hate him THAT much...I reserve that venom for politicians...lol

Carol said...

I really don't think he was any worse than some of the others. He does need a total makeover. That geeky look distracts.

Carol said...

And a geek looking guy with tatoos??

Carol said...

I liked her.

Ivy Green said...

I think that is a look some people like...there has to be something for everybody...

Carol said...

I'm not familiar with the song to know how well she did it. Whether the pick was right??

Ivy Green said...

I got behind on the commentary...Katie has improved from where she was...

Carol said...

She has a pretty smile and sparkling eyes. The other aspects of her look wasn't anything special.

Carol said...

that was supposed to be pitch not pick.

Carol said...

When they said she was doing Big girls don't cry, I was expecting that old song.

Ivy Green said...

I must stay tuned for my local Fox News. They have a Jack Russell-looking dog that can do calculus. I can't even do calculus.

Carol said...

I guess that beats Maggie getting the bunny out of the window! She's still my special girl.

Carol said...

They all seem a little catatonic tonight. I'm moving more on my couch than they are on stage.

Ivy Green said...

Miley is right what she says about the eye-contact. Our season tickees are in the 4th row center...I always get goosebumps when the performer "looks right at me."

jan said...

Ok, you all have me primed to watch Idol. I have been busy until now.

Carol, what was the thing about Alvin - did you mean Andrew or were you talking about Alvin the chipmonk.

John is worried about Christal. He thinks she looks sick. He said that before they talked about her being sick before the show - I just heard last week that she has diabetes.

Ivy Green said...

All the songs are "old fashioned" tonight which the judges seem not to like...maybe they should have put a time-range on it...

Carol said...

Is Crystal the one who did the Joplin song?

I was talking about Alvin the chipmunk. It was on one of the commercials.

Ivy Green said...

Problem is if they put on "new stuff" none of us old folks recognize them. Seems like even the kids know "our music," but we don't know theirs...

Carol said...

OK Jan. After you watch, you need to add your 3 cents to our critique.

Ivy Green said...

Yes, Crystal is the one with the blond dreadlocks...actually almost the same hair as Jan's former favorite, Jason Castro...

Carol said...

They may all have needed a beta blocker tonight.

Ivy Green said...

I liked Jason too (and his hair). lol

Carol said...

That was a tough song.

Ivy Green said...

I used to have that album of Linda Ronstadt's with that song on it...knew it by heart...this one doesn't quite get there...no Linda Ronstadt there...

Carol said...

Did have some pitch issues. How has she done before?

Ivy Green said...

They just had a commercial for ATT and mentioned Portland, Oregon, and they panned out with a USA map...that is really FAR...I didn't realize HOW FAR...Miss College needs to think about HOW FAR that is...it's FAR...

Carol said...

Ivy, you'll have to tell us about the dog that does calculus.

Ivy Green said...

Now comes Siobhan, the one Jan can't pronounce...lol

Ivy Green said...

Siobhan's song is one I remember Taylor Hicks doing...guess they have to recycle...

Ivy Green said...

She did somethin' to her hair...

Carol said...

I like her.

Carol said...

She ripped that one out.

Ivy Green said...

I like her too, but Simon has a good point.

Carol said...

Who would you vote off tonight?

I think Casey sounded best.

Ivy Green said...

Time to vote...

Carol said...

Do you vote Ivy?

Ivy Green said...

"Voting off" is who you DON't vote for...hard to say, quite a few to not vote for...Didi? Andrew?

Ivy Green said...

I have voted by text in the past...I don't send blocks of votes like some do...once and done for me...not sure if I'm motivated to vote this week...would vote for Crystal, if so, but I like Siobhan equally.

Ivy Green said...

They are putting all this serious news on Fox, but I want to see the calculus dog!

They reported Amy Bishop was denied bond. The gun was her husband's that was bought 20 years ago, they said.

Carol said...

Can you vote online?

Carol said...

Ivy, Portland is far away but beautiful. The coast is the most beautiful. Some nice exploring up around those parts. Nice lighthouses. Whale watching. Get sea sick? Neat bookstores.

Ivy Green said...

I don't know if you can vote online. I don't think so.

Carol said...

Went to a bookstore up in Portland that took up an entire city block. It's called Powell's Bookstore. It has new, used and out of print books. It's an adventure. I got a couple of these Foxfire books. I think they are out of print.

Powell's Books

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
Don't know if I'll get to learn about Portland or not. With her undergrad choice, I learned the less I said about it, the better. I learned that when "my picks" dropped off her list one by one. I'll have to keep my observations about "farness" to myself. lol

Ivy Green said...

I thought I missed the calculus dog because my bro called to discuss the new baby...but it's coming up...Hubs is 'splaining calculus to me right now...he says it's kinda the opposite of algebra...(oh, that helps - maybe it's all he thinks he can understand about it...lol)

Ivy Green said...

The dog is a corgi named Elvis from Virginia...Hubs says that's not calculus...it's just dog sense...lol

Carol said...

Hey Ivy, our dogs might be doing calculus and we just don't know it because it's way beyond our comprehension.

Ivy Green said...

I meant to say that's all he thinks "I" can understand about it...Hubs has a degree in engineering, I'm sure he understands calculus...

Ivy Green said...

That's what I said, Carol. I'm sure Scottie dogs can do calculus with one paw behind their back.

jan said...

Sorry I missed the dog that does calculus. Maybe it will be on youtube soon.

I think Siobhan and Bobbisox did the best tonight. Of the guys I like Big Mike the best. I am liking Katie better. I think she has a big voice for a little girl. I didn't realize Siobhon is only 20. She seems older. Siobhan and Bobbiesox both really know who they are. when Christal sang Bobbi McGee tonight, I got goose bumps. I hope they are the final two. I have a hard time choosing between them.

My vote to go home would be either Andrew or Paige.

jan said...

Amy Bishop's husband surely knew more than he is telling.

jan said...

Ivy, death is on my mind now too.
Death came in threes the last 2 days. My childhood friend's brother, another friend's mother (here)and an old friend I had not heard from in quite a few years - just heard he died of leukemia 4 years ago. He meant a lot to me at one time.

Ivy, I finished that book I was telling you about - Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver. It was an interesting book. Kingsolver placed her character back in the early part of the last century all the way up to about 1960. The way she developed the characters and plot reminded me of the movie, Forrest Gump. There were several well known people who show up in the book like the artist, Diego Rivera and Trotsky, the Russian. She also took the plot into the time of the 1940's and 1950's when people were accused of being communists. I am glad I read it.

Ivy Green said...

I was about to head off, but I'm glad I checked in to catch your comments, Jan. I went back to read my journal from ten years ago, what I had recorded on the day my friend died. Those words and feelings I had then are still so fresh. My friend's death foreshadowed my sister's as well, but in many ways it prepared me for what was to come.

Ivy Green said...

I heard a story from my brother about his daughter's baby who was born today. The baby was breach two weeks ago and the doctor wanted to do a C-Section. My niece said no, not yet. She wanted to try acupuncture first. The doctor told her she was nuts (wanted to know if she was from California!!!) She went for the acupuncture anyway, and it turned the baby around. The doctor was incredulous. He induced her today in case the baby "turned again," and that's why Dylan is two weeks early.

P.S. They are having a snowstorm in Colorado.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
I think you're right about Paige...hers was he worst performance of the night. She could go...but stranger things could happen. There used to be a very perverse website that campaigned to "Vote for the Worst." That's supposedly how some of the awful contestants of the past stayed in competition past their expiration date. I don't know if the place is still around or exercises any power over the voting. I figure it all comes out the way it's supposed to in the end.

Carol said...

When I was looking for a place to vote, I think I saw that, vote for the worst Ivy. Yep, I looked back to my google search and saw it. Isn't that sad, that there are always people trying to undermine what someone else is trying to do. Like Solar asks, why can't we love each other and work together for a common purpose? Why is that so hard to do?
