Happy Passover

At sundown tonight Jewish people all over begin the celebration of Passover, a commemoration of the Israelites being freed from their enslavement by the Egyptians under the rule of Pharaoh Ramses II, as chronicled in the Book of Exodus.
The story of the Exodus is told on Passover.
Moses, instructed by God, went to pharaoh and requested the freedom of his people, 'let my people go'. However, Ramses ignored Moses' plea and was warned by Moses that God would punish the people of Egypt if the Israelites were not freed. When pharaoh continued to refuse to let the Israelites leave Egypt, he was again warned by Moses that God would punish the people of Egypt with plagues. (The ten plagues). Despite the occurence of these plagues, Pharaoh still refused to let the Israelites go, until the tenth and final plague.... the killing of the first-born of all the people and even the animals.
To protect the Israelites,God told Moses to have the Israelites mark their dwellings with lamb's blood so that the Angel of Death could identify and 'pass over' their homes.

As the pharaoh's first-born child lay dying, he reluctantly permitted the Israelites to leave and in their haste to leave Egypt, they left so quickly that they did not have time to bake their breads. They packed raw dough to take with them on their journey. As they fled into the desert, they would bake the dough in the hot sun into hard crackers called matza (the unleavened bread).

Today, to commemorate this event, Jews eat matza in place of bread during the celebration of Passover.
As the Israelites were fleeing Egypt, the Pharaoh had second thoughts about letting them go, and decided to pursue them through the desert towards the Red Sea. When the Jews reached the Red Sea they were trapped, with the Sea before them and Ramses' army rapidly descending upon them.

It was then that the miracle of the Red Sea occurred. God instructed Moses to raise his rod, stretch out his hand over the sea & divide it & the waves of the Red Sea parted, allowing the Israelites to cross safely to the other side. As soon as they all reached the other side the sea closed trapping the pharaoh's army as the waves closed upon them.

Thus, God liberated the children of Israel from the slavery of the Egyptians. The story of Passover recounts the birth of the Jewish people as a nation.

To all our Jewish friends getting ready to celebrate tonight, and especially to you and yours Ivy, a most Happy Passover.

Ivy, I wanted to wish you and yours a Happy Passover before the celebration begins at sundown, and I do hope that I have
re-told the story of the Exodus properly withot leaving any important part out...

By the way, on the way home tonight, that stream I pass is twice as big as it is in the
pic I posted.

And my mallards are back!!! I took some pics
of them (8) eating & swimming in my 'pond'...which is also pretty large this year....

Almost forgot, cute piece at Huffpo about celebrating Passover.

Interesting post Coreen. I do remember that Red Sea story from my Sunday school days and remember going to Disney World where they had an exhibit that did it. I can't remember if that's the same sea that jaws jumps out of and scares ya while your riding in the boat. It was a long time ago and my memories all run together.

That article looks like it might be real funny to people who are Jewish and understand all those words. I'd need someone to read it to me in English.

Carol said...

Speaking of Mallards, my hen came up this afternoon all alone. Where are the boys who were chasing her. One, I'm sure was her mate.

I'm worried. I just hope the Coon Asses around her don't have the boys on their Easter menu. They are famous for eating anything that doesn't eat them first. It wouldn't matter if it is someone's friend.

I called the Vet's office today and both Vets, Maggie's Doc and the new guy, are working tomorrow. I told them I would bring her in tomorrow. I'm taking off tomorrow so I can bring her in as late as possible and pick her up as early as possible. They said she needed to be there by 9 and nothing to eat after midnight.

Coreen said...

Hi Carol, Not sure if Ivy will be around tonight, she may be having or going to a seder dinner...she could probably explain some of the words from the little passover ham piece.
I sometimes forget that not everyone would get/understand other's humor...

Over the years I have hung out with many people
who are Jewish, so I am somewhat familiar with
the ideas, beliefs & italians and jews have similar family traditions that remind me of each.

I was the 'shiksa' when I dated Greg, the guy
who I saw the ufo with, his jewish family was not crazy about me.... there are a couple other
words, that escape me right at the moment that
make me smile now remembering the use of them
around me...

I don't remember a disneyworld ride with a shark, just the rollercoaster that made you
feel like you were coming right out of your seat...Space Mountain, I think....

Sure hope your male mallard mate returns, I know I get sad when I see one of my bird pairs
missing a mate...the mourning doves here seem
to travel in pairs as well..

It has been really raining lots today & maybe
tomorrow & the next day, then this weekend they
are now saying 70+......I have no light weight
clothes out yet....

Coreen said...

Good news that the vets you trust will be there for Maggie. I think it is wise that you
stay around to be ready to pick her up as soon
as she wakes up...

Carol said...

I see that both you and Solar will be having some warm weather by the end of the week. Solar's will be in the mid 70s. He better pull out his bathing suit.

Jan's is swinging 40 degrees between lows and highs. Talk about dressing in layers.

I made myself some comfort food tonight. I need some comfort. I fried up, yes, fried some seasoned, floured cubed steak. I don't do that often, only when I need comfort.

It's about the best tasting, quick, unhealthy meat dish I can think of. Maybe it's so good because I know it's a no no. Maggie loves it too. I'm having steamed broccoli also. Maybe the broccoli will run that fried meat right on thru. For a southern girl I rarely eat fried food. They even have donuts, all different kinds, that some bakery brings to the jail twice a week and I don't eat any.

Coreen said...

You know DWTS is on again. How about that for
a distraction....

Missed it last week have it on now, don't know who these 'stars' are really, but I marvel at just how well they
actually do for amateurs. And as the weeks
progress for the most part they do improve
quite a lot.

That last one is a handsome devil isn't he. Who is he?

A wonderful post Coreen. If Ivy doesn't see it tonight, I'm sure she'll see it in the next couple of days. Meantime, we can all enjoy it!

".... my mallards are back!!! I took some pics of them (8) eating & swimming in my 'pond'."

...... I just l love this time of the year - can't wait to see those pics too.

Carol, When you mentioned Wisteria yesterday, and I saw how beautiful it is (online), I raved about it so much that my hubby brought me home a potted Wisteria plant from the nursery today. It's not blooming, and doesn't look like much at this point - I need to decide where to plant it so it will get all day sun, but will be slightly off the beatin path. Any suggestions? - they need to climb, so I'll need to figure out how to go about that.

Strange, but we did see some wild wisteria plants growing about a mile and half up the road this evening, in full bloom, but nothing around it was green yet. I'm not even sure what the plant it was growing around and hanging from was.

I'm happy to hear that Maggie is scheduled and ready to go - by this time tomorrow you'll feel so relieved. Now I'm worried about those baby ducks. I didn't think they ever left their mama's side. Tiny little creatures like that have such a rough time in the wild - it hard to even think about.

Carol said...

I had to get up and move while I watched that little number.

Anonymous said...

"For a southern girl I rarely eat fried food. They even have donuts, all different kinds, that some bakery brings to the jail twice a week and I don't eat any."

... I don't think I'd be capable of passing on a donut - but only if they're real fresh. Definitely don't like day old, unless they've been frozen and thawed properly.

I think you're dinner sounds healthy. Unless you eat that fried steak real often, then once in a while doesn't matter. The important thing is that it's doing it's job: giving you comfort. I have a strong need to eat something I really love, everyday.

Carol said...

Chloe, wisteria grows everywhere around here. I see it standing alone or in the woods wrapped around other trees. I have it at the house all over my back fence. It grows fast. What color did you get? I've seen purple, my favorite, white and pink.

Carol said...

I just love Niecy.

Anonymous said...

Carol, It's not blooming and it doesn't have one of those little tags in it. I just asked him and he said he's not sure, we both assumed it was purple (which is the color of the one down the road). I guess it'll just be a surprise. It doesn't look like much of anything right now.

If it's all over there, it probably is here too (but none on my property or the properties right around me). I'd love grow it up a fence, but don't think I have enough hose to get that far to water.

Carol, I haven't heard back from Jan. Have you heard from her? I know she mentioned three people she knew had died (or she had just heard) recently.

Carol said...

I see a big old moon peaking thru the trees across the river. Is it full tonight?

Anonymous said...

... I only mention that, because I don't know how strongly it affected her. That's a lot of loss.

Anonymous said...

.. probably full, because it sure was light last night. I got up during the night, and saw shadows shining in along the whole side of the house. I remember thinking about that song, 'Moon Shadows' (at least I think that's what it was called.

Carol said...

Coreen, I thought Jewish people weren't suppose to eat pork.

Coreen said...

Hi Chloe,

Glad you made it tonight...

Wisteria...a pretty plant a vine I believe, but be careful...once it takes root, it spreads & grows & is virtually impossible to stop....

As far as fried food, eat fried fish, shrimp, clams, &french fries...but not often....

Carol, did you mean the guy dressed like a guy from 'grease'...if so, that was the gold medal
ice skater, I think his name is evan lisichek?

I liked him...he may be another apolo ohno, maybe its the skating routine preparation....

Coreen said...

Carol,

Are you refering to the passover pork? piece...I think that's what she was saying, since many don't eat it...nor shell fish, (I could never make it...one of my friends always
teases me of not really eating fish, since I
primarily only eat shell fish)...

Anonymous said...

"Wisteria...a pretty plant a vine I believe, but be careful...once it takes root, it spreads & grows & is virtually impossible to stop."

Well then, I think I'll plant it along a fence - I've had other vines kill oaks and pines, and don't want that to happen though. Ha.. I love overgrowth, the more the better - nothing manicured on our little piece of earth. I sure hope it's that beautiful purple color.

Carol said...

I was just looking at your avatar again Coreen. It has the colors I like for my garden.

What happened to your avatar Chloe? Are you looking for a new one?

Carol said...

Well, I couldn't find titty baiting. What does it mean? Is it using your titties to get attention?

Coreen said...

Well, both blondes were good, don't know who the first was, but Pamela Anderson pulled it off pretty well...

so far the ice skater Evan Licsichek? & the darkhaired Nicole seem to be the best dancers...

He's so tall that he seems to be crouching so not tower over her so much.

Whoa, Kate should have stayed home with the kids.

Coreen said...

What is the Kate person's story, she's a goner
if they don't get rid of buzz first....

Coreen said...

What is her claim to fame, some reality show...where did she come from before that & wherever, she should just go away...pretty awful of the entire group....

Coreen said...

pretty generous as far as I am concerned....she has no appeal whatsoever...

Carol said...

I'd keep Buzz before I would keep her. Didn't her ex-husband have the same problem with her?

Mary said...

Nicole has had alot of dancing before. Kate has never had any. It's really hard when you've never had dancing. I started taking dancing when I was 32 y/o. It was very hard.

Carol said...

I was out walking Maggie before bed and I saw something cruising down the middle of the river. I could see what it was but, in the moonlight, I could see the wake behind it. I put Maggie back in and and went back out to look. It was Mr and Ms Mallard. They dropped by to let me know he was OK. I'm certainly glad she found her old man. I didn't want anything else to have to worry about tonight.

Carol said...

that was suppose to be, I couldn't see what it was....

Coreen said...

Mary is here....good to hear from you.

Beyond the lackluster dancing, Kate has an
attitude that is most unattractive...

Time to leave for tonite...

Carol, please try to stay calm tomorrow, though it will be an effort, it will all work out fine...& we will all be with you...

Didn't know much about ducks. This little couple has seemed to take a liking to me. It might be the corn I throw out for them every day. Here's a little something interesting about ducks.

"The ducks are generally monogamous, although these bonds generally last a single year only. Larger species and the more sedentary species (like fast river specialists) tend to have pair-bonds that last numerous years" Wiki

Interesting Coreen that we both have some Mallards hanging around. I wonder if they are distant kin?

Carol said...

Thanks Coreen. You guys keep us in your prayers.

Ivy Green said...

Thanks for a wonderful post, Coreen. You are so creative, and more than that, you are kind and generous.

The link to "The Passover Ham" is very funny. Yes, I did understand the Yiddish and/or Hebrew words - there really weren't that many. I had studied German in high school. Yiddish is a mixture of German and Hebrew (with a dash of Russian). In the beginning of our relationship when I was still a "shiksa," Hubs' family (especially his grandmother) would say things in Yiddish and not realize I could understand. I usually understood more than Hubs because they never bothered to teach him (or did he never bother to learn?) Today, I can translate most of the idioms, but I wouldn't say I can "speak" it. More like a child who knows what you said, but doesn't yet have the skill to answer. Another irony is that my maternal grandfather was an immigrant from Germany, but he never taught the language to any of his children. Back in the day, immigrants had a very different mindset about how to assimilate than what we see today. Who's to say which is the better way?

Carol said...

The Daily Word today:

"Grace
I am one with the limitless grace of God.
These words from the poem "I Am There" by James Dillet Freeman beautifully describe God's grace in action.

Do you need me? I am there. You cannot see Me, yet I am the light you see by. You cannot hear Me, yet I speak through your voice. You cannot feel Me, yet I am the power at work in your hands.

God's grace is constant and true, providing all I could ever ask for, and more. Grace is at work within me and around me. It is the light that illumines my path, the wisdom that guides my thoughts and actions, and the power that fills me with strength and peace."

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.--2 Corinthians 1:2

Carol,
Pork is not kosher and that's why the title of the piece is humorous - classic irony. No kind of shell fish is kosher, and neither is any kind of meat (including chicken) that is not butchered and prepared according to the laws of kashrut. Meat had to come from an animal with a cloven hoof. Therefore, deer meat would be kosher, but not if it was roadkill. Confused yet?? lol

Coreen, what a beautiful and timely post. Since part of my family celebrates Passover, I love it.

Ivy, I hope your's is a blessed Passover.

To all, I apologize for being gone and not checking in. We made a last-minute and unplanned trip last Friday and just returned. When I tried to get online to send you all a message that I would not be checking in for a few days, John had turned off the thingie so I could not get online. It is good to be back. I will be checking all the comments and new posts very soon. We have been driving for 12 hours so I need to feed the body first.

Ivy Green said...

Technically speaking, chicken should not be kosher, but sometimes you have to "play the hand you are dealt." Chickens got to be kosher, but pigs never did. Go figure. lol

Coreen,
I think you are right about certain ethnic affinity, or however you said it, between Italians and Jews. Hubs' parents were one of the first families to move out of "the ghetto" (if Wilmington had such a thing, probably more like a community by choice). They moved out to suburbs where their closest-by neighbors were Italian - right down the street from the Catholic school. So Hubs grew up very familiar with Italians and Italian customs. Probably even more than his own since his family was not "religious." Even not religious, his family always celebrated Passover - in their own irreverent way. lol

Ivy Green said...

Good luck, Mary. Keep sneaking those posts in whenever you can. It will be great to wake up to lots of new information. Can we give you a list and have you google and link stuff for us? lol

Carol said...

Thanks Ivy. I'm taking the day off. I'm afraid I might not have my focus where it should be if I go to work. I have time left from last year's vacation and my new year starts on April Fool's day, the day I started this job, 5 years ago. I knew at that time that there was going to be some significance to starting on that day. It was a Friday and I spent the weekend after saying Oh my God, what did I get myself into? We've really come a long way, baby.

Carol said...

Did you read that article Coreen linked to Hubs? He would probably get a kick out of it, if he can understand that language.

Ivy Green said...

I haven't had a chance to send it yet, Carol. He should get most of it, but I may have to translate a little. lol

Carol said...

Ivy, we've had a Birmingham UK star on our map for a while now. Is that your sister city?

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I almost commented about Birmingham, UK. We are named for it. There was a funny incident where some newspaper in the UK accidentally pasted a photo of our Birmingham in a article about their Birmingham. Some some-eyed person saw the Vulcan statue and said, "Hey, wtf?" Okay, I made that last part up, but the photo mistake did happen.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I looked at the article again - all the words are easy or she provided the translation. Hubs won't have any trouble whatsoever. lol

Ivy Green said...

That "some-eyed person" is sharp-eyed too. Nothing gets by him.

I still record The Ratigan show every day. I can get the degusting facts, not a lot of silliness and BS. Too bad it's on at a time that most people are busy and can't watch. It certainly is worth recording if you can. That will continue to be my hour of news a day.

Yesterday he pointed out that with the payback from Citi, the only ones who really profited were the bankers and the politicians and we paid for it. We do need a Tea Party but not one who is controlled by a political party who wants their power back.

He also reported that Hanity's freedom education fund gets about 12% of the donations to the children of the troops for their education. The rest goes for travel. I figured as much. He said they responded that that was about par for any charitable program.

Anonymous said...

Carol, Ive never even heard of the Dylan Ratigan Show, looked it up and I just set it up to record here too - going to give it a listen.

I don't want to wish you 'good luck' because that would insinuate that I consider Maggie's necessary teeth cleaning a gamble, and I don't. I have complete faith that you and Maggie are going to both get through the day more confident than when it started. My best and most optimistic thoughts are with you both though.

Thanks Chloe. I'm sitting here waiting to bring her in. She doesn't understand why she hasn't had her breakfast yet. Dealing with animals and little children is difficult when you can't explain that something you are doing for them is in their best interest. Just in case she can read my mind I did try to tell her about it yesterday. Can't hurt to try.

Anonymous said...

Carol, That's what I hate most too - not being able to feed them and start the day like a normal day. You're right, dealing with animals and little children is the same - you can't 'explain' to them what's going on (and you have to be the one that makes all the important decision - it feels like an overwhelming amount of responsibility sometimes).

Make sure you ask them if they can put her early in the surgery schedule - there may be others scheduled for the same thing. And tell them you want to pick her up as early as possible (before the normal time).

I always ask, and it usually helps. They'll make a little note, and possible make her first. Also tell them to call you when they're done and she's 'starting' to wake up. That way you can start feeling back to normal. I usually call them several times throughout the day to see how they're doing.

I didn't go to your link yet, and may have to get Emma settled first, but I had this ready to link this AM when I got sidetracked.

I noticed that Dr. Weil's site recommended drinking purified water (I've been drinking spring and know you prefer the safety of distilled, but I hadn't completely made up my mind on which one to settle on yet. This is the first article that came up on my search this morning, and seems like a good one (straight to the point too).

Purified Water Vs Spring Water
" As the overall safety of the public water supply is under scrutiny thanks to a recent Associated Press study that uncovered some disturbing contaminants, many consumers are likely finding themselves wondering if bottled water is better. For many, the facts about bottled water will make this the clear choice. The problem lies in deciding what kind of bottled water to select. Understanding the differences between purified water and spring water can guide consumers in the right direction.

While there are some distinct differences between purified and spring water, many find the overall benefits of bottled water in general make this option a smart one. The extra processing that most bottled waters are subjected to can help remove impurities that slip through the public water supply's treatment and testing programs.

"Distilled oxygenated water is one form of purified water that is gaining a lot of attention. To create this particular product, the source water is distilled for purification purposes. This step in the process removes impurities and insures that FDA and IBWA standards are met or exceeded. The oxygenation process itself requires the infusion of oxygen molecules into the end product. The final result is a water product that is clean, crisp tasting and adherent to FDA and IBWA standards. Many find purified bottled water is the superior choice when safety and flavor both matter. Distilled Oxygenated Water Is Purified At Its Best

I just want to comment on the water thing. Our pediatricians recommend tap water for babies and children because it contains flouride. Just a thought. If mothers are worried about their tap water, they can buy "nursery water" as it contains flouride.

Carol, I have not gone back to read the previous post and comments and was wondering what procedure Maggie was going to have that she needed to be put to sleep. Thanks Chloe for telling us in this post. It takes a while to read everything when I have been gone. I will be waiting to hear how Maggie did. You are such a good mama Carol for getting her teeth cleaned.

Mary, I will be thinking about you while you are working nights. Let us know how it is going for you.

I remember working nights years ago when I first graduated from my nursing program. I had young children and we had a coo-coo clock. The boys were all in school but the clock "cooed" every hour and I heard every coo-coo. We locked the little coo coo bird's door so he could not come out.

I got a different brand this time, and it say's on the front that it has fluoride added. I don't thing the last bottle I got by Gerber said that. But I was wondering if it is still just as important as it was in the old days for them to get that fluoride. I'll stick with the one that I know adds it (for Emma).

Solar, Are you serious?
You must be thinking of some other blog. We don't gang up on people here. Do we?

Solar,

While I am always happy to see you, the story of the Exodus is told in the Bible, and as such
knowing your antipathy towards all things religious, leave it as a great story, real or not....as far as Ramses part in the Exodus,
pretty sure it can be no more disproved than
verified....the historical record is simply
inconclusive....but I still luv you too...

I use a filtering water system that hooks up in my refrigerator...I don't trust the bottled water anymore than I trust tap water...I saw a few reports, on how all that they do is fill up empty bottles right from the garden hose.....was and hbo information show done by Penn, and Teller about a fancy restaurant selling garden hose water up to 120.00 per bottle.!

Solar said...

Chloe,

No I should have said that a little different..it is nice saying what we want to here...and no ganging up, on anyone...

Coreen,

Not my intense dislike for anything religious that makes me say that...there are facts that disprove the bible version of the exodus...but will save it for another day...

Like I said....but before i go on...luv u back...now ( my serious e face, ha thats the only one that I have.!) continued on the next post...

The biggest reason that I love Anthropology more than anything else, or almost anything else..is that it solves riddles....

The pig was not eaten by the early "protohistoric Hebrews.....it is a little long..it was in direct competion with man....especially grains...above all the pig is thermodynamically ill-adapted to the hot, dry climate of the Nebev, the Jordan Valley...a little long but will cut the info down if U want...but the upper rich did like to eat it once in a while...It is not in the nature of the pig to be dirty everywhere, rather it is in the nature of the hot temps,,..specially that of the Middle East...will find my info on it???

Buenos Dias Everyone,

I have never said this...but once a month I go over to our Church and help separate, and load food for the homeless, and for people that don't have any. I like this part of religion, cos it actually practices what it is supposed to..they give out food boxes...about 30-4 $ worth to anyone that call in ahead of time...they don't ask if one if Catholic, Jewish, Protestant. or any fool thing...just if U are a hungry human being....I am asked all the time why it is that I can do this..and not attend church....this makes us come together..church ( Mass ) separates us...no one ever asks anyone what their beliefs are when they help after some disaster.....that is how it should be all of the time.!!!

One great find that they have made was of the stables that the son of Ramses rode after Moses during the exodus...not Ramses..he was too old to make that trip.....

They found the stable at the "REID" river not the "RED" sea..it was in a totally different area than the red sea...but their were chariots wheels, and other proof that Ramses army did chase Mosses..but not like it was thought to be.....I forget now ( most of it) but one of the reasons that the Jewish Children were spared was of the foods that were available to them...grain..that was not available to the Egyptians..they did not have the grain at the time of pestilence...that came from ......Anthrax...starting to remember..

Solar said...

Sheep and goats were the first animals to be domesticated in the Middle East, possible as early as 9,000 bc Pigs were domesticated in the same gerneral region about 2000 years later. Archeologist, and Anthropologist counted at early prehistoric village farming sites show that the domesticated pig was almost always a relatively minor part of the village fauna, remains, constituting about 5% of the food animal remains. This is what one would expect of a creature which had to be provided with shade, and mudholes..(the pig does not sweat) couldn't be milked, and ate the Same Food AS Man...it was made unhealthy for economic reasons..not that it was unhealthy.....

In the ancient times...all amimals had a values...milk, cheese etc. hides and more. Pork was a luxury food, esteemed for it's succulent, tender, and fatty qualities.

Between 7,000 and 2000 bc the human population increased by 60 % causing the deforestation for land, and homes...permanent damage by large herds...made it even more impossible to raise pigs, they became even more of an ecological and economic luxury....the middle east is the wrong place to raise pigs...people always find it difficult to resist such temptations on their own....So Hahweh was heard to say that swine were unclean, not only as food, but to touch as well.!! Allah was heard to have said the same thing..for the same reasons....pig tasted good but it was to expensive t o feed them, and to keep them cool.

I found out a lot of information on my quest to understand Religion as my family did...why I don't is that when I combine all of this information...I have come to what I believe..not hate for it...but an understanding of it...The Exodus is the most fascinating of all..and so is Herod the architect of cites and bridges, during the same time..he held council with the three wise men..and they had a completely different role that is thought ....Sorry I don't dislike organized religion, just to say that I do...there is way too many things that are just plain false...

Mary, that means...how are U sweetie...I have broken U pinks down to sweeties, honey's and others.......U r a honey...but a sweetie for tonight...and that all im going to say.!!

Solar said...

Haweh = Jahweh...sorry for all of the un-requested info...but just wanted to show that there is a reason for the way that I feel about religion......lots, and lots of information, that points me in another direction...and not a dislike for any of the people that believe in it...but that has also taken me to the part of the mind that makes us group believe in somethings....later

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
Interesting archaeological/sociological history...makes sense to me...if you dig deep enough, you can nearly always find there is (or was) a common-sense explanation for whatever is...as my mother still says, "Everything happens for a reason."

Coreen said...

Solar,

I will say this one more time....your view as
to the events are simply your interpretation,
through your search & reliance on things, views by others, and that is fine, however, the interpetation of events is just that, there
remain many others who have interpreted the same events in a different manner & so far, neither interpretation can be said to be absolutely proven or disproven...only a belief, opinion, version of the events that fits one's own belief...you have on many occassions expressed your views
on religion, for which I have formed my opinion of those words....

Coreen,

Understood, that is one of the reasons that I would have liked to have met Mary M. would have taken a close look at the rest of that time in history...when we had our trip back in time....but I will take the interpretation of scientist before i do about a huge amount of people that wrote the 5 books of mosses, and could not be named.!! I won't say anymore on it...but to me, if I did not..it would be enabling, and that I won't do.

What I like ( another thing) about Anthropology..is that it is a historical truths, and a check system for the truth...if not 100% of the t ime most of the time..and I can only say what I believe..but there are historical facts...........tell u one that most probably wouldn't know or accept. Darwin was not the first to say that living organisms and descended from other different creatures...there was a guy named Anaximandros of Miletos, a Greek Philosopher of the 6th century that said the same...and way before him...there was this Roman Poet...Lucretius that even hinted at evolution by natural selection, but Darwin was the first one, the first time, not only presented the genera idea of evolution, but also explained why evolution came about as it did...and Im not arguing...just talking...I prefer to take the side of those that do prove to some degree what they are saying..or try to explain it in a way that is believable...promise that is all from me.!

Very glad to hear Maggie made it through her procedure...that's too bad she had to lose a few teeth in the process, but better that than they give her real problems later. You "nipped" it in the bud.

Carol, I taped the Dylan Ratigan show, but am too tired tonight to watch it, so I'll see it early tomorrow morning. I don't know how that will work, since it 'is' news (as in new) but it'll give me a chance to check out his format.

Tonight I'm going to read a little more about non-local awareness. I'm not interested in doing what he's describing how to do, but I'm fascinated by the idea of time not being linear, and the way he talks about the whole 'time/'theory. A few things he said made me understand (and wonder about) things I've never quite gotten before. I'm on a journey, and it feels good. (However, I scan through the stuff on his experiments, etc. - and focus on what interests me most). I think his book will lead me to others who write more specifically about the things that interest me most.

I'm just finishing a very good novel (maybe because I just really like this author) called 'White Doves at Morning'. It takes in the civil war and slavery from an angle I've never read before (I must clarify, it's fiction). It's had me doing a lot of pondering too. Completely unexpected effect when I downloaded the book. I couldn't put it down (that is, during my short little evening rendezvous with a good book).

Chloe, Jan was on the road last night. She also mentioned that John had turned off Comcast, isn't that the cable.

Maggie has been real sluggish. She was coughing really bad off and on for a while which scared me. She even vomited a little, that stuff when there's nothing on your stomach. I did finally feed her a little bit and she ate it up and drank some water. She perked up a little but now is zonked again.

Anonymous said...

... that should have been 'space/time' theory.

BTW, as little as I understand it at this point, it has still made me look at things from such a different perspective, that it's eerie.

There is a tradition in certain Jewish homes of a "second night seder." That's in case they accidentally "missed" something on the first night...God forbid the kids fall asleep before the fourth question...lol

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I think all that can be expected post-anesthesia. I would only worry if she's still that way tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

Carol, I always feed them a little, even though they say not to - always. And give them all the water they want.

Animals vary hugely on how the anesthesia affects them. Plus she's been traumatized. However, I doubt she's in much pain, and probably will be feeling a lot better with those teeth removed (within a few days, that is). Tomorrow will be better, she'll just need lots of rest and very low stress.

The first night is always the worst, but by morning she'll probably be a whole lot better.

Anonymous said...

'If' dogs are the same as humans, the coughing and vomiting was probably from stomach acid. I'm glad you gave her something to eat.

Ivy Green said...

A full seder is long and tedious while the food is getting cold. I think the tradition of hiding the "afikomen" to keep the kids awake until the end of the seder is the forerunner of hiding the Easter basket. It's the kids' favorite part. [A piece of matzoh is hidden by the dad or grand-dad before the seder; the kids go on a hunt at the end with the "winners" getting to redeem their piece for a coin.]

Last night I went to bed listening to Coast to Coast on my little earphones. It keeps me from thinking about something I'm worried about. Art Bell, the guy who was the first host of the show, was on. It must have been a rerun of a recent show since it was before midnight, when the current show airs.

Someonr called in and was talking about this book that he felt really puts things together really well. He was recommending it to Art Bell. The books name is Consciousness Speaks. It sounded like a book that would be right up our alley so I made it a point to remember the name.

Consciousness Speaks

Look at some of the reviews and see what you think.

I've been thinking a little bit again about the 'relationship' between the conscious and unconscious mind. It's always been so interesting to me, and in so many ways it's such a mystery.

I've always felt that understanding that 'relationship' is where all of life's little secrets can be found.

Neglected to mention I had my first physical therapy on the shoulder. The therapist spent more time and had more useful information than either of my physicians to date. She thinks it may be something called "frozen shoulder." Sounded pretty hopeless, at first blush, but she said we will forge ahead anyway. Just a little while ago, without really thinking about it, it occurred to me suddenly that I wasn't "thinking about my shoulder." All by itself, that is an improvement.

Frozen Shoulder (not a dessert)

Physical therapist are good to work with. They know more about joints and their movement than the Docs do. That's what they studied and that's what they do all day long. It's just like pharmacists know more about drugs. To get good care you really do need a team approach.

Good to get a run down on Idol since I didn't watch it. I really didn't watch much of DWTS either, just enough to know that the voters are nuts.

I was busy on the phone and monitoring little Maggie. She's still very groggy. I think they may have overdone the anesthesia a bit. I'll have to figure a way to keep her teeth clean because I don't think I could go thru that again. I did get her a toothbrush a while back but she wouldn't have any part of it.

When I tried to give her her antibiotic it was a fight and then I remembered Mary puts it in cheese for her dog. That worked like a charm. She wolfed that down without even chewing.

jan said...

I had Idol and DWTS taped while we were gone. We use Comcast for both TV and internet. Although I feel somewhat guilty about using this huge company -they provide the best internet service in our city and the best TV service. What can I say.

I too was disappointed in the DWTS votes. I was glad that Buzz Aldren was not voted off - for historical reasons. Poor Kate, she was the one that should have been voted off. I do feel bad for her that her husband left her with all those kids.

My favorites on Idol tonight were Bobbisox and Lee. I still like Siobhan & Mike. If I were saying who should go it would be DeDe. It was painful to watch her tonight.

jan said...

Ivy, I watched Idol the first time when Ruban and Clay were singing on the last night of the competition. I think that was the 2nd season. They both have done very well.

All the vets recommend dog tooth brushing and none of the dogs agree. Whazzupwiththat? The only thing worse I can imagine is brushing a cat's teeth. Cats have other things in mind to do with their teeth besides brushing them.
