I;m really a cat person, but really like to see all the different dog breeds...I can never
understand how the judge picks the best in show
from different breeds, but I guess it works....

Carol said...

Ah Coreen, we have to pick between the dog show and the Olympics? Well the dog show is on satelitte so I can record it.

Carol said...

You're a dog Coreen? No wonder you like dem cats. Do you ever chase them?

Carol said...

You sure do a good job with those posts Coreen. Ya got a lot of practice with those sports posts. I think you might have missed your calling.

That Bichon Frise looks like a stuffed animal.

Coreen said...

My remote better keep working tonight & tomorrow...Between the Olympics, the dog show,
2-1/2 men & 24, my head is spinning....

FYI, The dog show will jump from usa (8 to 9 pm) to cnbc at 9 tonight....

I do love to see the dogs...but could not live with one.....

Carol, I'm a cat, a cat...not a dog...it must be wrong!!!!

Coreen said...

Yes, the bichon does look like a stuffed animal
& I think the bull terrier may be the 'patton'
dog...don't remember, will look it up...

Ivy would probably know....I never thought I would like a beagle, but I have to say that Uno
really knew how to work a crowd & you just want to squeeze her (not sure uno may have been a boy)

Carol said...

The bull terrior was the Bud dog, or some beer, wasn't it?

Carol said...

To go between the dog show and the Olympics, I have to push too many buttons. I can tape it and watch it when I go to bed. I don't have Network in bedroom now. I have one of those old little TVs and only one place for the antenna. I tried to find one of those switches at Walmart but they were out.

Coreen said...

Yes, didn't the 'beer' dog have a black spot on his eye, was his name 'spot'?...now see that's what I don't get about commercials...most of the time I do not
remember the product it is trying to sell & I don't think that is the goal of the ads.....

I'm having trouble pulling up that link. It must be busy.

Coreen, I think dogs are better pets for people who are co-dependent. They are needy and so are some of us. Cats are more independent and aloof. Maggie is more like a cat in that way. She perches on the couch and you have to call her to get her in your lap unless someone new comes over and then for a while, she is all over them, if she likes them.

Carol said...

What I have found to be amusing about cats is that if someone doesn't like cats, the cat seemed to be more attracted to them. At least that has been my experience with my cats. Or pull out a paper or book to read and the cat jumps up and sits on it.

Coreen said...

The Spuds ad is working here...Try this one....

Spuds at the olympics

Coreen said...

I have always had cats...never a dog...barking
would drive me insane....

You are right about cats...they sense when someone does not like them & they are all over that person....

Best one word description of a cat as you said...aloof....& when they want your attention, you are right they will walk on you, nudge you & mine love to sit
on the newspaper.....& my little netbook too...

Coreen said...

Not to get to deep into politics, but did you hear/see that Sen Evan Bayh decided not to run for re-election, just started reading some of his explanation....does not bode well for accomplishing anything....he was a big Hill supporter, always liked him....to me, he is
practical, realistic, willing to try to compromise to get something done...not like
the partisans that are in control right now on both sides....

Is everyone out tonight...seems it is just you
& me, Carol...

Carol said...

Well, I know tonight is Ivy's girl's night out. Maybe she will come home with some info on the neuroballistic lady.

Do you think Bayh has some cushy fat cat job lined up. That's what I always think when those guys jump ship. I always liked him also. He seemed reasonable but if he can find less shit for a nickel, I can't blame him.

Carol said...

Well, I decided on the dog show. Maggie had a vote.

Carol said...

Don't remember ever seeing a mini wired haired dachshund.

Carol said...

Decided to try to watch both. I set up the back up TV I had for the Super Bowl. Feeling some vertigo about now.

Coreen said...

I liked the mini daschund, what a contrast to the irish wolfhound!!!

I watched the downhill, but for some reason the camera angles didn't seem to grab the speed
& on the edge feeling that others have shown...most famous was franz klamer a long time ago...but i'll bet they go a lot faster than he did....

Coreen said...

like the pbgb.....

Carol said...

pbgb?

Coreen said...

petite basset griffon, the beige & white shaggy coat a couple ago...

Carol said...

I've tried to figure out what combinations of these dogs Maggie has in her. Her body, under her hair is similar to a whippet or greyhound, slim, high belly and low chest. She acts, dances like a poodle. Her hair is soft like a yorkie.

When I look at Maggie's face from the side, the way her hair comes up over her nose, she reminds me of Woodstock in the Peanuts cartoon.

Coreen said...

i still like the pbgb & the beagle

Coreen said...

he also added the mini dashound

Coreen said...

i don't like the whippet

Carol said...

Oh, and Maggie has the nose of a blood hound. She can follow a scent of anyone who has been in the yard.

Carol said...

Did they ever find that whippet that was lost at the airport years ago.

Coreen said...

my 3 pbgb beagle mini dashound

Coreen said...

he picke my least favorites....

and I don't think the whipped was ever recovered....

Coreen said...

Does maggie get haircuts?

Carol said...

I'm behind you because I've paused a few times but I like the wire haired dashsund.

Carol said...

Oh, I don't care for the whippet either. Just not a cuddly dog.

Carol said...

Maggie gets haircuts when I take the scissors to her. She has a very sensitive neck, can't have anything around it so I don't bring her to a groomer. I think that maybe she had her trachea damaged before I found her. Maybe someone had her tied up. Even if you touch up under her neck she chokes.

She won't let me take a clippers to her either. She will let me use the scissors. Good thing she is a river rat dog. We both look a little scruffy.

Coreen said...

If the clipper is electric, would it be the noise that frightens her.

Did you ever say how old Maggie is...can you brush or comb dogs....one of my cats likes to be brushed but not the other 2.....

Carol said...

Yes, it is the noise and the vibration she doesn't like. I can brush her. I take out her brush and put a pillow in my lap and she comes and sits on it.

Coreen said...

the ice skating pairs just started americans
right now.

Carol said...

Now I'm torn. Snowboarding is on.

Coreen said...

not crazy about the toy group, of all of them
i like the pappilon the best....

Coreen said...

oh well, 2nd pick that I am not crazy about, the white toy poodle....5 more groups to go....

Carol said...

I love the silky terrior. Maggie looks a little like that.

Carol said...

I found a dog that looks like my Maggie dog, it's that new breed, the Pyrenean Shepherd. Look at this pic:

Pyrenean Shepherd

http://www.dogster.com/dogs/1807

Carol said...

Doesn't that dog look like Maggie?

Carol said...

The very last photo on that page looks exactly like Maggie.

Carol said...

Even the coloring is the same.

Carol said...

Did you hear that the president of the French Bull dog club of France died on the Titanic. He had one of his dogs with him that survived. Was it women and children and dogs off first?

Coreen said...

The Pyrenean Shepherd does look like your Maggie...

And another pick that I would not have made...

Coreen said...

did you just see the pyr. shepherd in the preview?

Coreen said...

Carol, you have one more vacation day? Anything
special...a casino roadtrip maybe....I don't know about the casinos there, but the few times
I have been to the indian casino in CT, I have
to tell you when you look around at the people,
they don't look to happy.....

Coreen said...

I like this herding group...border collie & the
belgian sheepdog so far.

Carol said...

I went to the casino Friday and lost my quota for a month or two. One of the nurses I work with asked me to go with her, like it is a group activity, hah. I hadn't gone for a long time up until recently, but when the weather gets cold and nasty, not allowing me to get outside to play, I get cabin fever and want to do something. That can be dangerous.

I'm behind on the dog show from pausing.

Haven't seen the new breed yet. When I looked it up on Wiki, they look very different from one to the other.

Coreen said...

They just showed the pyr shepherd, he is great,
not to big, grey/black coat, really like the herding group breeds....

Would be surprised is the judge selected the
newest breed to be the group winner but you never know...

Coreen said...

the pouli wins the herding group....interesting

Carol said...

I finally saw the Pyrenean Shepherd. Looking ungroomed is standard for the breed, so Maggie doesn't have to feel embarrassed.

Carol said...

I don't see how that Sheepdog can see where it is going.

The mopdog won. Didn't they say he won before.

jan said...

I am lurking just reading your comments about the dog show. I am taping it. Can't watch the olympics and the dog show and finish the binding on a quilt. I enjoy your comments and will enjoy them more when I get to watch the dog show. I am enjoying watching the pairs skating and the Canadian who won the first Gold medal. They had his brother on who has CP.

Carol said...

Chloe must have been busy today. Hope she's OK. Ivy, are you still out with the girls?

Ivy Green said...

Thanks for the post, Coreen. I am "dog tired" tonight so it will be tomorrow before I can make a meaningful contribution. There is another day of Westminster action tomorrow...terriers included...before the best in show. A lot of competition for attention with year, what with the Olympics, and isn't tomorrow Mardi Gras? I don't know how much more fun I can stand.

Coreen said...

It's late here, & snowing lightly...so I am going to say good night....

Solar, Chloe, where are you two...

Carol said...

Oh Jan, I liked that young Canadian who won last night, the one who have the brother with CP. Was happy he won. I missed seeing him tonight. Did he get his gold metal tonight.

Ivy Green said...

We took the train to New York one year and went to the dog show. It's is an exciting thing to attend...a bigger spectacle than what shows up on television. The most fun is the "benching area" - the mob scene behind the scene. Do you wonder how and where the dogs do their business? Hint: there is no walking outside to the curb. lol

Carol said...

Do they put down some artificial poop grass?

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
They have "sand boxes" which the handler/walker is responsible for scooping. There is absolutely no odor unless you count what's wafting off the reeky people who are packed in the over-crowded spaces like sardines.

Carol said...

With all that grooming, I bet those dogs do smell better than the people.

Interesting program about some of the dogs and the shows. Lots about Uno. Dogs are very therapeutic and so are cats. Even petting a cat has been found to lower the blood pressure. Of course the Bp goes up if you have to go catch the cat to start that petting. But then that can be aerobic, which is also good.

jan said...

The married Chinese couple won gold tonight. He is 36 and she is 31. I am so happy for them. They have been skating together for 18 years and just recently married. This is their last olympics.

jan said...

Carol, yes he got his gold medal tonight. A beautiful story of how each brother has inspired and encouraged the other.

jan said...

Just couldn't watch the dog show and the olympics. The ice skating is my favorite event and didn't want to miss any of it. The Chinese couple who won silver skated beautifully too. Both couples had on red and black - I am sure because of the New Year. Are all of the Chinese New Year's red???

jan said...

Night all. I am going to skate in my dreams tonight.

jan said...

Had to come back for a minute. Just saw a news report of a stabbing on our campus tonight. A girl was stabbed in the neck outside of the Anthropology building. On my e-mails there is a warning to not walk alone on campus tonight. They have not apprehended the suspect as yet. I don't know how the girl is doing. They took her to univ hosp. We live only about 10 blocks from the building and 3 blocks from the hosp. I won't be going outside tonight. Glad we have Lobie.

Carol said...

Well I can see that no one, except me, here is interested in our neuro, gone ballastic, biologist, but has that ever stopped me before? No. There just could be someone lurking from Lithuania who is.

I recorded Nancy Grace, along with half of what was on TV last night. Too many interesting things that I wanted to see and not enough eyes to watch it all. Had to nurse a case of vertigo with cute little dogs circling my head before I could go to sleep. One cute one, and I learned she is a pure bred afterall, was under the covers keeping me warm.

I had to watch almost an entire hour of Nancy Grace's recording of a conversation between a perp accused of murdering her step child and her family, on the jail phone, to get anything about the Alabama shooter case and just when they were half way thru reporting something I already knew, the TV jumped to something else I programmed it to record. No big loss, I knew more than Nancy did anyway.

It seems that many didn't have a clue about this lady:

"Anderson told the Chronicle of Higher Education that his wife had called from jail and said, "I know you guys are obviously in shock," and asked if their four children had done their homework."

She was described by some of her colleagues as “"socially a little awkward,"

"More recently, some of Bishop's students had mostly praise for the biology professor at the University of Alabama. They gave her an overall 3.6 rating out of 5 on RateMyProfessors.com."

"She was "absolutely the bomb! Knows her stuff cold, and quick-witted, too."

"Dr. Bishop is brilliant," another said. "Her research is fascinating. She will surely get the Nobel Prize. She is the best teacher I have ever had."

I want to make a little editorial comment here. Maybe this lady was great. Just maybe she had to deal with some who weren't so great judging her all the time. It does often seem like the mediocre are the ones in charge and they don't want any smart competition in their way. It may have just finally gotten to her.

Hmmmm! Other interesting tidbits:

"Someone who knew her at the time when that bomb was sent to one of the people on her Doctoral committee members said "She had told me they talked to her about those bombs. She had like a grin on her face."

"Investigators said that during the investigation into the bombing, they found a novel on her computer that described a scientist who had shot her brother and then sought redemption."

"LaTasha Davis and her sister, Melissa Davis, told "Good Morning America" they believe Bishop was able to get a list of which professors did not vote in her favor for tenure and used it to plan the shooting."

This info comes from:

Too dizzy to do the fancy link.

Carol said...

And Jan, you may want to quilt yourself a nice bullet proof vest?

Carol said...

Make one for Lobie too.

Coreen said...

Ok, I'm stalling since I don't want to go outside & deal with snow cleanup, driveway already plowed....only a couple of inches, but still need to cleanup, so though I don't have
any strong interest in the professor shooter,
here's a couple of articles from boston herald...you get to make the call...is she a
long time wack-a-doodle or not...

Happy Mardi Gras, french for Fat Tuesday. The day before you are to start your fast for the Lenten season. Called Fat Tuesday because so many indulge in lots of fatty food in preparation for their fast.

What has always amused me is how some people down here give up meat and instead gorge on crawfish, shrimp and other seafood delicacies. Now that's a real sacrifice.

Carol said...

And Coreen, I wouldn't complain too much about being a Dog with this being your fortune this year:

"It doesn't get much better than this. The Year of the Tiger may as well be The Year of the Dog, as you're not likely to have a more fortunate year, even when your own sign is ruling. In fact, it is the Dog who can expect the most from 2010."

Settle down and enjoy your dog days. Your cats can deal with it.

Carol said...

You tiptoed in here Coreen. I just found your post.

Solar said...

Coreen,

Snowed about 2 inches here also...won't even bother to go and sweep it: The sun is strong; and should take care of it today.

The dog shows are nice, saw it a cpl of times, but think (forgot why) that it is more political, than anything else. I do enjoy seeing some of them prancing around. Sure get a kick when I see the toy Dobermans....no not the keith Dobermans from msnbc.....

Now if they were to have a show strutting around my favorite animals....the gorrilla, or the bears...then i can see going..oooooo...aaaaa....and ....

Hey about those Wolves (dogs) I use them to tick people that say that they don't believe in evolution...I ask them ( every one in the world knows) or comment that the Dogs were once Wolves.....got u....

What almost all people get wrong is that they don't know how, I like know the hows of things......wanna know?

and Coreen, u didn't respond to my picking a partner by scent comment....what do U smell a trap? at least Jan told me she picked the good kissers by the smell test....and Carol, I still use Canoe..but very little....

will be in and out...first going to get my work out in....

jan said...

Just reading Carol's posts reminds me of other adult shooters in this kind of crime where people describe them as not having friends, people just leaving them alone because they don't invite others into their lives. We don't see this often in women. The comment about her brother who she shot. He was described in the same way. Again, who knows if this is due to "nature or nurture" or genetics or environment. Someone described the household as "dark and dreary and without love." I find it interesting that some students thought she was brilliant and a great teacher. One thought she would someday win the Nobel Prize. I have heard that genius and insanity are just a hairbreadth apart. Interestingly, I read also recently that they are thinking that Einstein may have had Aspergers.

jan said...

Solar, LOL on your last comment. I didn't kiss em if their smell was not appealing. I remember one guy I went out with once. We were dancing and he smelled like mothballs. No kisses there or no more dates. Does anyone remember mothballs?

jan said...

Carol, Happy Mardi Gras to you and all. In some of the South American countries they call it Carnival. In Argentina, during Carnival they like to throw water balloons. Once while in a very pregnant state, I had to walk between 2 groups on a sidewalk throwing water balloons at each other. They stopped while I walked through. I was grateful.

jan said...

Solar, hard to believe that some dogs, especially those that look like Carol's evolved from wolves.

Carol said...

What I find interesting and perplexing about the dogs groups is that many dogs in the herding group have such long hair. All that hair must have been a problem with a dog that had to work out in the weather. Did their masters, years back, have to sit around brushing them all the time or did they have a lot of bad hair days?

Coreen said...

came back in it's snowing again & to my surprise the olympics are on usa & the curling just started!!!

I get such a kick out of the curling....

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I doubt seriously if farmers and herders put much time and energy into grooming their dogs. They weren't really pets at all. In olden times, dogs were utilitarian...they all worked for their keep, and they probably stayed outside or in the barn with the rest of the animals. There are cultures that still regard dogs as animals. We are the ones who have turned them into "furkids."

Carol said...

Well Ivy, I'll stick with the "furkid" society and my Pyrenean Shepherd "furkid" I now realize that Maggie is a descendant of the Pyrenean Shepherd, several thousand times removed. She came full circle and back. We need to go find something to herd to see if my theory is correct.

Coreen, I'm also watching the curling and for some reason I feel the need to order a beer. That sport looks like a game they had in some bars around here. It was played on a long table. I don't know if it has a name.

Solar said...

Ivy,

Exactly.! When the wolf-dogs were first used. They were used mainly for protection.....the hunter gathers figured them out. After they were tamed....sorta...they considered themselves part of a wolf pack..the alfa-wolf was the leaders of hunters..they fed the wolves.

The wolf had already evolved- some species of them...what they did was to live off of the left overs that the hunters provided...they were scavenging in the garbage....(I do that sometimes when I throw something out, and....anyway...they were tamed little by little, and used for security...later on we crossed bred them, and keep them as pets....but don't feed one for a long time....lock your self in with them..and they will revert back to wolves....just the way things are......cats....same, but their size is not so threatening...now.....some pinks....just no taming them; ha Side Saddle.!!!hahahaaaaa

Coreen said...

Could You mean shuffleboard?....

Didn't hang in too many bars, but I think that
could be it....

Just watching the little brooms & the sweeping
down the ice, looks like fun....but I'll bet
its cold in there....

The americans don't seem to have a good eye
so far....

jan said...

I grew up in the country and dogs were kept outside. They were not allowed in the house, except maybe on really cold nights and more often they slept in the barn with some hay thrown around for them. One of the most interesting differences between city and country people is that when a city person is driving down a highway or road and a dog runs out in front of them, they will try not to hit the dog - even when turning the steering wheel in a jerking motion to avoid hitting the dog puts them at risk. A country person approaches this situation differently. They will not put themselves at risk to avoid hitting the dog. Their belief is that the dog is not smart enough to stay out of the road and is going to get hit eventually. Country people don't think this is unkind, simply realistic. My youngest son was one who would pick up and bring home any stray animal when he was a kid. He married a girl who grew up in the country. This is a lesson he learned from his father in law who has a big farm and over time many dogs.

Solar said...

One of my worker last year was attacked by a dog..it was a pit-bull that was roaming the neighbor hood...it was reported after it's owner had died..the dog was left alone..it was not considered dangerous.

It attacked while he was throwing out the garbage for pick up the next day...now my worker is very strong, and can protect him slef...the pit-bull and him were in a life struggle..he did not run, but kept fighting the dog..and meeting him with kicks and punches ( his fist; arms were all bitten up)..and finally the pit just stopped and turned and went away...my worker was all cut up, and had to go to the hospital...emergency room that is...if it had been a women, or a young person...he would have been eaten...this was a pit, and a loner, but there are bands of dogs that roam some of the poor hoods...i shot one...they are a huge problem that is gone mostly un-reported, un-noticed most times...pits and other large dogs are used for protection in the city, and can be a very dangerous way to live.......

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
Did your employee have to undergo rabies shots?

Solar said...

Ivy,

He did not...he went to the emergency room and just asked of for bandages..alchol, and went back home...he is from the mountiains in Mexico, and cured him slef..over a period of a few wks...he was in bed wrapped up his wounds with clean cloth after he poured any alchoal that he could find..I helped him a cple of times..he is one tough bird...he has been with me for 15 years, and hope to get him back when I start up again....he was back to normal...I kept getting him to do basic-little moves with his arms, and hands...and then some weights..U should see him do one of his high wire acts...he is a very good steel welder, that I taught concrete work to ( have a mechanic, an electrician..I look for people with different talents, and train them in my field..I always get two fers this way...and they don't even know it..) he is also a friend, and one of my foremen...

Carol said...

The emergency room would have been required to treat with rabies injections unless that dog was found and tested. Even if your own dog bites you and you go to the ER, animal control or the police are notified and the dog must be held and monitored for something like 10 days to 2 weeks. They don't destroy the dog if it is a pet unless it is suspected of rabies. It's a law here.

Carol said...

Ivy, placing an inmate on suicide watch is done quite often if there is even a slight reason to suspect that that inmate might even want to commit suicide. We even have a standard procedure to do it for a period when an inmate recieves a long sentence. I think that article mentioned that there was nothing significant to indicate that the Prof did want to kill herself. I'm not sure if she even realizes what she did yet. But they want to be ready if and when she does.

Carol said...

Jan, it really disturbs me how some people take care of their pets. They let them run where they want to run, even out in the street, and if they get killed, oh well, they just get another one. Not much different than a pair of tennis shoes.

Maggie would probably like a little more freedom, but oh well, she's not gonna get it! I love my furkid too much.

Carol said...

Ivy, I think my owls must be in the dating stage or something because I've seen them out circling my area. Usually babies don't appear until March but not sure how long the courting, laying and egg sitting lasts.

Carol said...

I was reading about Lent on Wiki to see exactly why people often give up meat for lent. I'm not Catholic. I came up with something interesting.

"During the early Middle Ages, meat, eggs and dairy products were generally forbidden. Thomas Aquinas argued that "they afford greater pleasure as food [than fish], and greater nourishment to the human body, so that from their consumption there results a greater surplus available for seminal matter, which when abundant becomes a great incentive to lust."[9]"

That giving up meat was all about sex! I don't know, after a big platter of boiled crawfish, the guys around here can still be pretty horny. They just have to be very careful to wash their hands and with our crawfish seasoning around here, that stuff won't wash off. And if they happen to get it in any of the wrong places, that lust won't last for long.

Pope Benedict spent two days in one of the Vatican's sumptuous marble audience halls closeted with 24 Irish bishops who both individually and collectively confessed to him their shortcomings and omissions in the paedophile clergy scandal which has shocked the entire Catholic world.

Cardinal Sean Brady, the Catholic primate of all Ireland, who led the delegation of bishops, said afterwards that "at this time of penance, we must begin with ourselves".

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I didn't know much about the Barred Owl's mating habits, so I googled around and learned they begin courting in February and mate in March. Your birds are apparently right on schedule.

This linked site had some interesting tidbits, though at least one mistake that could be a typo. I'll give you a chance to see if you can spot it. Couple of interesting nicknames for the Barred Owl: Le Chat-huant du Nord (French for The Hooting Cat of the North) and Swamp Owl.

That's neat that they are dating Ivy. There are lots of owls out in this area but these have been hanging in the trees in my yard for a couple of weeks now. My neighbor saw two big ones sitting side by side in one of his trees. The first year I found the babies, I wasn't aware of all the preparation I just found them by accident. Now, after 3 years of watching the babies, I'm watching more closely when it gets to this time of year. They have become part of my family.

I think Amy Bishop is a most complex person. There are some people that say she was a good person. ONe nursing student was talking about how much she liked her. It is really a strange situation. When they were putting Dr. Bishop in the police car she said the people were still alive.

Coreen, I think this is a good example of the problems with trying to label people. I think she is not going to fit neatly in any of the categories in the DSM IV.

Ivy, I've always liked birds but you've helped me to become even more passionate about them. I buy more bird food every week than food for Maggie and me. I have a nice collection of hummingbird feeders waiting for Spring.

I got an error message after working hard on a really nice post about the latest Central Park hawk news. I'm not going to relink the links...but Lola has been photographed carrying twigs to the nest. Everyone hopes this will be their year. Pale Male and Lola have not hatched any new chicks since human disturbance of their original nest in 2004. Their nest site was rebuilt for them following an outcry from their fans, but people do a poor job of nature's work.

Carol,
I'm glad you're "for the birds." lol

Ivy Green said...

I like all the dogs in this category. It would be hard to choose.

Coreen said...

OK, dog people...this is a great group....

So far, my fav is the golden retreiver Treasure...but all the retreivers have pretty
faces....

Ivy Green said...

Drat the error messages...losing comments right and left...

Ivy Green said...

Golden Retrievers are too popular for their own good...popularity is the bane of pure breeds' existence.

Ivy Green said...

Sadie the Scottie made it to the top of her breed...she will be in the line-up for the Terrier Group.

I enjoy watching the handlers too. Most of them start as junior handlers who are the most fun to watch. Our former doggie camp was also a training ground for kids learning the ropes.

It's best to copy before you try to send anything tonight. There must be something in the air because my sink won't drain either and I went to Walmart and got a gallon of Draino and put in it and that didn't even work. It's barely moving now.

I missed the first part of the show but I'm taping it.

Coreen said...

My other fav is the irish water spaniel....

Carol said...

Blog is still screwing up. This time it even logged me out. Who are Pale Male and Lola Ivy?

Carol said...

Well, I have a good excuse to eat some of my french bread pizzas tonight. No dishes since I can't wash any.

Showing these dogs is an expensive venture.

Carol said...

Coreen are you having trouble getting your comments posted tonight?

Carol said...

Another mop dog coming up. How do they groom those dogs?

Coreen said...

Pale Male & Lola, aren't they the NYC hawks?

So far no trouble logging in

Ivy Green said...

I will make another attempt to link the photo of Lola. She and Pale Male are a famous pair of Red Tailed Hawks who built their nest on a fancy apartment building across from Central Park. They became famous when the exclusive occupants of the building objected to the "mess" and destroyed their nest. There arose a hue and cry across the land.

Carol,
The judge can probably answer your grooming question. She seems to have copied the same hairstyle.

Carol said...

When people come together to protect these birds you realize there is hope for us after all.

Carol said...

I'm behind you guys because I had it on pause to fight with the sink.

Carol said...

I fought the sink... and the sink won!

Carol said...

One sad thing about the very large dogs is that they don't have as long a life expectancy. They also have problems with their stomachs flipping.

Carol said...

I just saw the mop dog and the handler who shares his do. Do they call those dreadlocks?

Coreen said...

I like the malamude....

Carol said...

I mean the judge. I can't get a good look at her, just the bottom of her skirt.

Coreen said...

and the siberian and the white wolf looking one
is it a pyrenee?

Carol said...

My last dog was a Schnauzer, Beauregard. He lived to be 14.

Carol said...

I'm curious to hear how Jan's church gumbo turned out. I wonder if Jan still remembers what a good gumbo tastes like. Jan, do you make gumbo? I'm pretty picky about my gumbo.

Carol said...

I like the terrior group.

Carol said...

That handler showing the airdale looked like he slapped the dog in the face?

Coreen said...

There's my favorite every year....bedlington terrier, the lamb....."bling bling".....

Ivy Green said...

Most of the terriers originate from British stock. Guess that's where all the rats were. lol

Carol said...

I like the Carin terrier

Carol said...

Do these dog owners have to carry their own dog handler with them?

Coreen said...

Beside the bedlington, I like the cairn, australian, norwalk, norwich & the westie.....

But what do I know.....

Ivy Green said...

Many of the handlers are professionals for hire. They take the dogs on the road on behalf of the owners.

Coreen said...

Heads up everybody...I just put up a best of show post of the 7 finalists....

Ivy, pretty sure I know your favorite...

Ivy Green said...

I'm not complaining. Except I'd love to see a wheaten Scottie win something...just so folks would know there's more than one Scottie coat color...underneath they're all the same dog.

looks like Meg
