It's Super Sunday, Super Bowl 44 (XLIV) Super New Orleans Saints vs. Indianapolis Colts

When the NFL football season started in September, there were 32 teams competing for the prize.....

Today, there are just Two.....

The New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts play today in Miami and when it's over one of them will be Super Bowl Champions....

The world will be watching the tale of two quarterbacks, Drew Brees and Petyon Manning and while the Colts may be the favorites to win, the Saints, a team once called the 'aints', the pride of the City of New Orleans, the State of Louisiana has become the 'new' America's Team....

Before the season started, Drew Brees gave the members of the Saints team a motivational book "Finish Strong", which featured anecdotes about people overcoming adversity, together with a bracelet inscribed with the words "Finish Strong". These words have become the unofficial rally cry for the New Orleans Saints and their
fans, the 'Who Dat Nation'....

Today, the New Orleans Saints will again,

"Finish Strong"....

With Maggie leading the way, she knows a good thing when she finds it....

As part of Carol's Crew, we here are all honorary members of the 'Who Dat Nation'....as such, we stand and cheer the New Orleans Saints to victory....

"Who Dat? Who Dat? Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints? Who Dat? Who Dat?" Today the answer will be, 'Nobody'.....

More members of Carol's Crew at work in Louisiana......

When the Saints and their fans arrived in Miami this week, they were greeted with the Miami Tower bathed in a golden glow....

To honor both of the Super Bowl teams, this weekend the Empire State Building is ablaze in gold & black for the Saints and blue & white for the Colts....and on Sunday night, the colors of the Super Bowl Champions....

For the City of New Orleans and the Who Dat Nation.....GO SAINTS!!!

Now let's play some football....

I just finished writing this comment but checked to see if you had your post up before sending it.

Coreen, you just might get snagged to be a sports writer. Great post.

What I wrote:

OK, I'm up and I'm ready. Where are you Coreen? Are you OK? You didn't find yourself a hot man last night, did ya?

I went to the dinner/shower. Mary's DIL looked beautiful. She has had a lot of nausea since she has been pregnant but she looks great. Husband is gaining all the weight and he didn't need to.

I went over the the casino after the dinner to play. Took $100 and played until midnight, up and down and left with $20 more than I went with. I consider that a very successful evening of gambling.

Jan, I've had lots of broken toes. They aren't fun and can look awful but not too painful usually. If she wanted to go skating, she was probably OK. When kids are in pain, you can see it with their activities. I bet her crying was because she was missing mom and dad. Sadness is usually worse at night when the sun goes down. Everything usually is. Pain is also worse at night. Darkness seems to intensify misery. Have you ever noticed that?

Coreen said...

Today's the day, the excitement is building, can't wait for the game to start....

Carol, Mary, we are here with you cheering
your Saints....

Coreen said...

Glad to hear that Mary's dinner went well, with
no mishaps....

Nice you went to the Casino, calmed you down a little?....and as long as you left with more than you went with, that's a win....

Now to the business of the day....everything is under control....no nerves, remember your team has accomplished so much....& just one more thing to do....

Carol said...

That's another reason I didn't want to go to any Super Bowl parties today. I wanted to hang here with my peeps today. What kind of party snacks do ya'll want today? Just name it. No diet stuff either.

And how in the world did you get all those pics in there Coreen? I thought they had a limit. Just leave it to a lawyer to make it happen!

Coreen said...

Sorry if the post is long, but I wanted to tell the story through the pics....And I had to wait until a.m. to post it because of the
time thing...I had it ready late last night, but had to delete it & do it over in the a.m. to get the right date...

Carol said...

This is a great video just in case you don't remember that last game. Brought tears to my eyes, again!

Saints NFC Champions

Carol said...

And Solar, I liked your joke a lot also. Very funny.

Coreen said...

If the game is not your only thing today, here's a list of the ads & which quarter they are scheduled to appear during the Super Bowl....

Coreen, great post and pictures - I can see that Carol contributed a couple of them as I see her and Maggie. Both of you did a great job. This gets me into the spirit of things. I am not a football fan usually but today I am.

Carol, you are so right about the toe. It looks much better this am and she feels very little pain although she is not putting her weight on it when she walks. I put some ice on the toe last night but she kept kicking it off in her sleep. I think the kids tylenol and elevating it helped a lot. As you said she did not complain of the pain. I think I scared her when I saw it was so purple and swollen. She cried when she talked to her parents and begged them to come home last night. I talked to them and told them she was OK. They are probably on their way home now- it is about an 8 hr drive. You are right she missed them. It was kind of pitiful - she kept telling them on the phone - "I miss you so much. Can't you start home now." I was wishing I had your tele number last night so I could ask you about it. I do get really stressed when one of my grandkids gets hurt and they are with me.

Carol said...

Yes Jan, two of those pics are of some of my peeps at the joint. Coreen asked me to send some. Friday was "All Saints Day" at the jail and some of us could wear our Saint's stuff.

Since the animals were making their picks, I let Maggie make hers. She did pick the right team. She's a smart girl and knows where her doggie dinner comes from.

jan said...

"Sadness is usually worse at night when the sun goes down. Everything usually is. Pain is also worse at night. Darkness seems to intensify misery. Have you ever noticed that?"

Carol, yes, It sounds like you know this from experience. I experienced this when my mother & brother died and then when I was going through a divorce over 20 years ago. I call it "My dark nights of the soul." whether we are sick or grieving or depressed, the nights are so much worse.

jan said...

Carol, I think our animal companions have a special "sense" about what we need or want.

jan said...

Last night when Taelor (GD) was crying so pitifully from missing her parents, Lobie (our dog) went over and started licking her foot.Oddly, Lobie never pays any attention to Taelor b/c when Taelor was little she used to try to hug Lobie or get up in her face and Lobie would run away from her. I have never seen Lobie get close to Taelor before. Lobie likes people but stays away from little kids most of the time.

CBS is my most iffy channel out here at the Swamp. It's the most distant channel and often fads in and out. I had to set up an extra TV, one of my old ones. It's hooked up to a digital box and it's doing fine so far.

Carol said...

Dogs also seem to want to help someone who is sad and they can also sense injury. They lick their own to heal them.

Solar said...

Coreen;

You're now a very good sportscaster, and U my kind of Pink; U actually like to watch it; and understand it...I bet U even know all about the spread, and all of the calls that go on, during play...U would have been a great football companion.! Do U golf?

Carol,

Everything is all set up for the game...the guacamole will be made just before the game...going to have a six pack of bud in the freezer, one cigarette that I only take one or two puffs, I still get a taste for a cig, when I have a cpl of beers...but can throw it out after a cpl of puffs...haven't had one for 1-1/2 years...going to order a Pizza, from the best place around here....don't care what that fancy-shmantsi lawyer gal has to say.....

Maria, Jan, Have a good day, today.!! U cam make it happen, cos U have control over most things...

ps...about motivation talks....sports are alway's into them b/c all they are-are just big kids that need to me motivated each and every game...usually the quaterback is the captian, and the motivator.

I have one that I tell myself everytime that I start a new project, and try to prepare for this:

"If you start something out right; it will end up right"

What i mean is that preperation is every thing to succseed...all the pep talks in the world will not make one conquer a better prepared team, and having the most talent doesn't hurt either.

Now, im hoping that the Saints are not listening to no one, that they are going to put their heads down, and make it all happen..if they get swelled heads, and don't play their best...they will lose...that's why they need a great motivational talk today....that and another important factor....team-work...it all mathematical in that it all needs to add up........Go Saints....have my fingers crossed for them; and will light 44 ( 44th s.b.) for them to win......

Solar said...

will light 44 candles for them...that should read...44 candles, fingers crossed, get it??

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
Whoever took your pittcher above got you at a good field angle. "Don't even think about sacking this quarterback!"

Ivy Green said...

Thank you for this great thread, Coreen. Puts us all in high spirits.

Rooting for the Saints is an easy pick. There is a lot of Cajun-influence here in Alabama. Maybe because part of the state was French-settled, and the earliest Mardi Gras was in Mobile (1703), 15 years before New Orleans.

As far as the Colts are concerned...who dat? Although grudge-holding is not my thing, and Hubs says it's past time for me to get over it, I've never forgiven the Colts for sneaking out of Baltimore for Indianapolis in the dead of night.

"...[Team-owner Robert Irsay] kept the move secret until just after midnight when by cover of darkness on a cold snowy night he used Mayflower moving trucks to pack up the Colts offices, and relocate them in Indianapolis. By the time anyone realized what had happened it was too late to stop."

Carol said...

Ivy, I had to take the pic myself with my Iphony and my arms are only so long. I was trying to get in the shirt and not too much of my aging face. It seems I ended up with too much of my aging face.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
Last night I thought you needed rest and comfort, not another story.
But today I can tell that your "cryin' time" story about your grand-daughter reminded me of what happened when we packed off the now-Miss College to summer camp for the first time at age 8. It was several days before we were allowed a phone call, but when we did, I could barely understand a word between her heaving sobs. She pleaded that we come to get her. I listened and reassured her, tried to get her to talk about her activities. In truth, I wanted to jump in the car immediately and drive three hours to get her. However, we had been advised this was a common experience, and the worst response would be to "rescue" her. But it was killing me. Finally, just before saying good-bye, I asked a last question...is there anybody else besides you who's upset. "Y-y-eesss," she said (heaving sob), "there's a lottt of p-p-people cryin'!"

I think I started laughing in spite of myself, and that made her laugh too. A few days later, we did go visit for Family Weekend. She no longer begged or cried to come home. We said goodbyes at the end of the visit, and the rest of the camp experience continued happily.

I recalled saying to her then that this going-away experience would prepare her for eventual-college. We both remembered that, and laughed on the day we moved her into her College dorm. Neither of us succumbed to parting tears that day.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
You called a good play. lol

Carol said...

I seem to have a lot of American Goldfinch, black and gold, outside today. I think it may be a premonition. They just recently showed up and were in the minority, but not today. They've taken over.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
That is a good omen considering that it's early for goldfinches to be in breeding plumage!

Coreen said...

For history buffs, with a medical interest, an
historian is claiming that William Hunter & William Smellie, the British doctors who were
the founding fathers of obstetrics, may have
ordered/assisted in acquiring subjects by having pregnant women killed....A quite stunning allegation.

Founders of British obstetrics were callous murderers

Carol said...

Oh Ivy, that must have been tough. That's that time when it takes great courage to do the right thing.

There are many times when my young people in the joint feel disserted by their parents when they don't come to bail them out. I tell them that it took great courage for their parents to leave them in jail and that it just proved how much they really loved them.

Carol said...

Ivy, they aren't exactly gold right now, more of an olive, but I know what color they are supposed to be.

Ivy Green said...

It sure does, Carol.

Coreen said...

It may be that New Orleans voodoo thing, still not sure what you call it, but I love the black & gold birds landing in your yard, Carol....

Today, its against all odds, but I have to say, there are lots of sports fans up here, who
also believe the Saints will do it....

Coreen said...

Ivy,

It's my pleasure to contribute a little, Carol's devotion to the Saints has made it easy....Really didn't think or know much about the Saints before, but gotta say, I am happy to be on board. Really like Drew Brees.....

Kind of figured you may have been a Baltimore Colts fan way back when from your place of origin....but as I have said before, I loved Super Bowl III!

Coreen said...

Solar, when you show up again....I did golf, but not anymore, takes to long....

Like sports, respect athletes, their abilities, their dedication, never gambled, do know the odds, but only because I listen to sports talk radio.

But, what's this about a couple of puffs on a ciggie??!!...Fagedaboudit!!!!...where is that determination that you show us all the time...

Carol said...

Ivy, that's awful about those doctors!

Solar said...

Coreen;

Ok, no cigie, but if the saints win, i just might light up a cigar that I have. A hand wrapped cuban from my godsons david's wedding, we are close, and will call him to light one too......determination is a good word....I hate ones that make you feel guilty...like "will power" or discipline.......

Golf is an all day thing, even if U skip the 19th hole....when I used to golf by myself, early in the am, and the first off the tee; i used to run the course carrying my bag...did not even keep score....but did get in shape. I used to get into the high 80's sometimes...but mostly low 90's....learned in the Marine Corps....a go-go dancer taught me to play when I was in N.C. later

Coreen said...

Almost forgot this need to know before the game starts

Public Policy Polling Survey:

Dems favor Saints....
GOP likes Colts....
Indies go for Saints too....

But 46% don't care who wins....

Who Dat? Dems like Saints, GOP the Colts

Coreen said...

And you will be going outside to take a few
drags on that Cuban, won't you, Solar?!....

Carol said...

Solar, I'll see your cigar and raise you one margarita. I had some of that Jose Cuervo already made margarita mix left over in the frig from my Christmas party. I put a glass in the freezer for later. Parteeeee!

Maggie can't have any because of the alcohol but she did drink a half a cup of my coffee this morning when I left it on the floor. I didn't have to drag her down the road to walk today, she dragged me.

Carol,
Good luck tonight, to you, Mary and the rest of Louisiana. I'm going to tune in with the rest of you tonight.

Carol, Did that coffee have cream and sugar, or did Maggie drink it black?

Carol said...

OK everyone, stand up and repeat after me....

"I pledge allegiance to the Saints, and
to the great city of New Orleans; and
to the Super Bowl, for which we will
win; one city, below sea level, under God;
with Mardi Gras and alcohol for ALL."

Carol said...

The coffee had milk and Sweet and Low. She doesn't like her coffee black. Coffee is bad for dogs but I forgot that she liked it and left it in her reach.

Anonymous said...

One time shouldn't harm her. It must be the milk that attracted her, unless she has a sweet tooth like my dogs.

Glad she's doing OK Carol.
(.. it's a diuretic, so she may have to go outside an extra time or two)

Carol said...

How do you know when it happened Chloe? Coreen, check in.

Carol said...

Seems that Coreen would have felt or heard something and mentioned it.

Coreen said...

Guys,

Thanks for the concern, but the explosion was
at the other end of CT, closer to Hartford & the casino way, Middletown like the name says is in the middle of CT, about an hour north, I think I said it before, our small state, you can get just about anywhere in CT in about 1 hour....only saw it on the local news earlier.

Just getting settled in for the game...took out the recycling, cleaned up the kitchen after
dinner....

Whew!

Well yes Ivy. It's a party.

Ivy Green said...

Good. Nobody falls asleep...keep the commentary moving...

Ivy Green said...

We got 63 comments (64 with this one). That should hold us for a while. If we have to roll over, what do you want to do? Better to think ahead before too many margaritas... lol

Carol said...

Fall asleep? I might faint but fall asleep, never.

Carol said...

Chloe, prepare something!

Ivy Green said...

You never know with those margaritas...can put anyone into a stupor... lol

Carol said...

No margarita until later.

Ivy Green said...

What are you waiting for???

Carol said...

Move them back, move them back, waaaay back!

Anonymous said...

We can just do a Go Saints! continuation, if we get up to 200. That way it's short and sweet, and the pics from this thread will still be visible.

Unless there's news by the time we get that far.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I forgot to say before that looks like a really great team you have backing you up at the clinic. The A++ Team!

Ivy Green said...

Yes, I think a continuation if needed (and why would it not be?) With the great pic of Carol at the top...she's our QB!!

Great commercial.

Coreen said...

Now that was really bad...they needed to score a td.....

And I agree they were nervous...

Carol said...

Settle down guys.

Coreen said...

now whoever gets the return better hold on to that ball....I don't like how the saints returner is handling that ball so far....
