Hummer migration has begun.

I've noticed a sharp increase in the number of humming birds that visit my feeder so their migration must be starting. I keep one feeder up all year but yesterday I added another one. I may add more later.

Those little buggers do like to fight over the sugar water. I would like to mention that the water does not have to be red as long as there is some red on your feeder. The red in commercially prepared nectar is from a red dye and may not be good for those little hummers. Just use one part white granulated sugar to four parts water.

I've read that if they are fighting over the nectar, make one feeder a little sweeter and the bully hummer will go for that one. They are supposed to be able to tell how sweet it is from looking at the water. Amazing.

Wikipedia reports that the hummingbirds heart rate has been clocked as high as 1260 beats per minute. Whew, that makes me short of breath thinking about it. Because of their high metobolism, they are continuously hours away from starving to death so get your feeders out there folkes.

Chloe, I added that hyperlink to Wiki on this post, there is an option to do that. It is not showing up on the post. Don't know why. I went back in and it is there but it still won't show up on the post. Ivy did it, why can't I?

And don't make fun of my Christmas lights. I'm just early for this year!

Anonymous said...

I don't know Carol. If we can't figure it out, we'll have ask Ivy when she gets back. For now though, here's that link to wiki: With the exception of insects, hummingbirds while in flight have the highest metabolism of all animals

Anonymous said...

Carol, I keep a string of the small lights on my back balcony all year around. They give off a nice soft light, and they don't draw insects like a regular light bulb does.

So to me, those lights on your balcony look perfectly normal. Good for a party too.

Anonymous said...

Carol, You'd have to live in a climate like you and I do, to understand that insect precaution.

Anonymous said...

.. oh, and great picture,
I don't have a feeder, but I still have been seeing hummers outside my window. I think I'll put out one, now that you mentioned their metabolism. Just so they don't get low enough for my cats (they don't, do they?) The cats are why I had to give up my other bird feeders. Turns out, I don't need those feeders anyway. I have hundreds of bird daily, because there's so much greenery here. And they stay up a lot higher, so the cats can't bother them. So, all is well...

Great picture Carol, I love seeing the river and trees too. Really takes me back. We have hummers here and we don't have a feeder. We have a yucca plant with this big stalk that comes out of the middle with pink blossoms and the hummers love that. We are not seeing the hummers as often in the last couple of days so ours must be migrating too.

Carol said...

Girls, get those feeders up. Those hummers have a long trip to make without a fill up and they burn a lot of fuel. Right now I need air traffic control outside. Wally World has the feeders for about four bucks.

It took a while yesterday to catch that pic with the birds sitting still on the feeder. I had to sit on the floor with my camera, looking out the door. The birdies were flying around so fast that by the time my camera snapped they were long gone. They go so fast that if they are flying when I snap the pic, and still in it, they are just a blurr.

I haven't learned all the tricks for these digital cameras to increase the shutter speed. I knew how to operate those old SLRs by adjusting F-stops and shutter speeds to do anything I wanted but now I have to figure out all these little symbols. Yuk.

Bugs Chloe? Yes I'm familiar with bugs. We are trying to coexist peacefully. It's not easy and I'm not one to grab for the poison. I do wear a lot of eau de mosquito spray parfum though.

Carol, I went to 'New Post' and was going to type a post with step by step directions on doing a link from there. I went to the HTML popup and typed in a link. After I typed it in, it put it on my post, with the correct coding. But when I do a preview, it doesn't show it. Is that what happened to you?

Carol said...

Yes, it is still listed in the post when I go back to it but it won't show up. Somehow Ivy made it work.

Carol said...

Did you put up a new thread?

Anonymous said...

No. I was going to write a post on the steps I did to get it to link. But it never showed up in my preview, so I deleted it.

Strange, we must be missing some step, or the site is having problems.

solarcrete said...

Chlo,

Sorry, that I haven't been around to help you with the hyper links..Im having one of those day's that I hate...Im running around do so many things that I haven't done anything at all...I hate when that happens.

Anonymous said...

Sorry to hear that Solar. Those kind of days are so frustrating.

I was just trying to help Carol figure out why her main posts won't show a link. It's different than what I was doing down in the comments. I think I've got that down pretty well.

I hope tomorrow goes well for you Solar. I miss seeing you here and at TM.

Anonymous said...

Solar, I sent you an email a little while ago. I want to make sure you got it ok.

solarcrete said...

Chlo,

I like to learn one little thing, each and every day, so I do go to tm and (try to) here, and here. I shouldn't have complained, I am almost thru building a computer..and have learned a lot..I turned it on, and it works pretty good:

That is if you don't expect to see the monitor turn on....but I have that figured out...I need to get a video card..I did learn something from you......

Carol,,,whats with the Christmas lights??

Carol said...

Chloe, it shows up at the bottom of the post and uses that same format you linked to yesterday but nada when it comes up live.

I was busy watching America's Got Talent. Probably the only network program I have watched most of the episodes of in many years. I was just voting, which is something else I've never done before.

solarcrete said...

Chlo,

I got it, and replied. Now I have to send my new address to Carol...and some others..thanks.

solarcrete said...

A friend of mine brought over his pc, the start menu and all the sub programs have disappeared on him..that's going to be fun, to try and get it back up...he is a good guy, so I will do my best...and like U Chlo, I won't give up until it get it done...

About tm, Im a little bored with it right now...they are repeating a lot of the things that they fought me about, and I don't like to say I told you so....thanks for the comment you made about me today...

Anonymous said...

Congratulations on building that computer Solar! I would 'never' have the patience. But from what I understand, they work a lot better and are faster than the ones you buy ready made. Then there's that feeling of accomplishment.

Carol said...

My hummers were wild this afternoon and there are even more moving through. They might be using the river as their route to the Gulf. I tried to get pics but they were moving too fast and they don't like the camera. I wonder where they sleep at night.

My neighbor who died several years back used to hang about 12 two liter bottles of nectar out on his long porch during the migration periods. Wasn't even safe to go in his yard. It was like a mad swarm of bees.

Anonymous said...

Carol, I'm going to try again tomorrow. There's got to be a kink in the program OR something we're not doing. It may be a while before we can ask Ivy. It would be nice if she posted from the UK though.

solarcrete said...

Chlo,

I know that you were kidding about the last post that you put up last night, not need to tell me that you were just kidding: We made a deal remember? We won't take anything seriously...when posting.

Anonymous said...

"About tm, Im a little bored with it right now...they are repeating a lot"

Tell me about it. I've been feeling the same way.

Anonymous said...

Ok, It's a deal.

Anonymous said...

"My neighbor who died several years back used to hang about 12 two liter bottles of nectar out on his long porch"

Yes, a tad excessive. (Ha, sounds like something I might do)

You have motivated me to put up one outside my upstairs window Carol. I think the reason that they've come by this window, is because I have a small stuffed animal of Emma's sitting in the window sill, that's half red. I thought about it when you mentioned they are attracted to the color.

solarcrete said...

Carol,

Sorry I can't contribute to you thread, I just dont know anything about birds...I do like reading your comments tho...

I'm kind of tired of politics period. These issues....it's like beating a dead horse.

You even have to be careful wearing a red shirt because they will buzz you. You can even get them to come drink sugar water out of your hand if you have on red.

Carol, You MUST listen to this:

Where Do Hummingbirds Sleep?

Anonymous said...

Solar, Carol doesn't care what we talk about. I know nothing about humming birds either, except that they're cute.

Anonymous said...

Solar, Did you try restoring your friends computer to an earlier date (far enough back to when it was normal?

The problem sure sounds fatal though. Maybe he got a virus. Was he running an antivirus program?

Anonymous said...

... or he accidentally uninstalled a necessary program.

Carol said...

That was cool Chloe. Seems like someone on TM mentioned finding a hummer they thought was dead and it came back. I bet it was in that torpor they talked about.

Leave it to you to find an answer to a question I asked only moments ago. You are the whiz Net surfer.

Anonymous said...

"it's like beating a dead horse."

Well put Carol, my feeling exactly.

Carol said...

And dang fast with the hyperlink thingy.

Carol said...

Chloe, how many ways can people think of to say the same thing over and over without boring themselves to death.....Talking about politics now.

Anonymous said...

I'm not whiz Carol. As a matter of fact, I laughed when I just read that. All I did was search under: where do hummingbirds sleep.

Anonymous said...

I know Carol. I keep trying to find something new to say about the stuff they're discussing, but it feels like a broken record. Especially when you can just say, 'Politicians lie'. End of story.

Having a nice little light show with some distant lightning right now. Nothing better than turning out the lights opening the shades and watching a light show from nature.

Even better is sitting out on a screened in porch at night and watching and feeling a storm brewing. Feel that drop in temperature and the cool wind blowing as the night sky lights up. Nothing better.

solarcrete said...

My post was just eaten by your hummers,,,and it was a good one to.!!

Chlo, All it shows when u turn it on is a background pic...I wish that I could get to the system restore...he thinks that he little granddaughter just hit the keys....and some programs were erased...not the normal trouble shooting problem...but I will try it..

Anonymous said...

You make that light show sound so nice Carol. I love them too. Our windows don't even have shades, and we have lots of them.

That screened in porch sounds nice. Mines not screened, and so the insects make it miserable.

I noticed it's nice and cool tonight. We had some wind earlier, and even that looked pretty, watching the trees all blowing around from inside. I just love the outdoors, watch nature do its thing. I would hate it if I weren't always near a window.

Anonymous said...

Solar, If you right click over the background pic, does the pop up menu give you any choices?

solarcrete said...

Im going to have to start writing a post on note pad or something, and then paste it...it was a hell of a post, and I forgot half of it...I asked the others, and all I got was as shitttty laugh, I will get even with them...no dirty thoughts for a week....haha

solarcrete said...

Chlo, not nothing comes up at all, I don't want to look at it tonight, and will have time for it tomorrow thanks

Carol said...

As I am writing the post for New Post I have noticed this thing that keeps flashing saving, at the bottom of the post box. If you were writing a New Post is might have been saved somewhere.

Anonymous said...

You know Solar, I think there might be a way that yo can make that bottom Search menu, etc disappear, hide it. I bet it's still in the computer and you just need to find a way to change the setting back so it is visible again.

I think I've seen something like that in the past, but can't quite recall. I mean, what could a 3 year old do. She can uninstall anything.

Anonymous said...

This is from Windows help menu Solar. If you can look at help on your computer, then do what it says on your friends.

Find the taskbar

The taskbar is usually located at the bottom of your screen. If it's not visible, there are several possible reasons why:

The taskbar is unlocked and has been resized so that it's hard to see.

Auto-hide is turned on. If this is the case, you'll only see the taskbar when you point to it.

If you're using multiple monitors, the taskbar will only appear on one monitor.

To resize the taskbar so you can see it again
Point to the area where your taskbar should be. When the pointer changes into a vertical double-headed arrow , drag the border upward.

To find the taskbar if auto-hide is on
Point to where you last saw the taskbar. If you can't remember where you last saw it, try pointing to the bottom of the screen first, and then to the side or top of the screen, if necessary. You might need to move the pointer almost off the screen to find the taskbar.

To turn off auto-hide

And I hope those little hummers have their feet planted firmly on the branches they cling to sleep because we're having a little deluge of rain out there right now.

Maggie knew a little storm was coming because she refused to go out for her before bedtime poddy. She's the weather girl, she is.

And after reading that because hummers have such a high metabolism, they also don't live very long, seldom over a year. That makes my feeding them even more important. I want their year to be a good one.

I'm sure you are all asleep still, but where I am it is after 10 in the morning. My body doesn't know that, and can't figure out why I have it up at this ungodly hour.

I'm just checking in to say 'ello, and see if this works across the ocean. Between my daughter and b-f taking care of house-matters, they better remember to refill my hummingbird feeders. I mixed up a quart of nectar before I left, that should be plenty. In the heat of summer, I must change it everyday, but in cooler weather, every couple of days is fine.

As far as the hyper-link thingy, I just used the icons on the tool bar on the New Post page.

I'm heading out to the Tower of London shortly to see if there are any beheadings or such scheduled today.

Carol said...

Hi Ivy, I guess that would be 4:29A my time when you posted. Must have just missed you.

I really hope you don't see any beheadings today, Ya know, that can put a real damper on a day. I didn't think they still had the death penalty over there anymore. I thought that was just the U.S. and other mean countries. Could be wrong cuz I depend on you and Chloe to keep me up on world events and other stuff.

I went to sleep listening to that hummingbird link you listed Chloe. That lady said that hummingbirds can live 3-5 years and even longer if they get what they need. Hurry Chloe.....get your feeders. The little ones depend on you. I guess you have a lot of little ones who are depending on you.

I bet the little Emster would love watching those little hummers. And I was right about the fact that they follow rivers out to the Gulf. No wonder I have so many around here.

It is interesting though that I don't have the same birds out here that I have at my house just a little over a mile down the road but farther from the water. Don't see Mockingbirds or Blue Jays but have tons of Cardinals.

Carol said...

Ivy, you may want to take pics in some of those historical spots and look for orbs in your pics. If your mind is open to orbs, maybe more will show up.....Just a thought. I have found that when we open our minds to things, we invite them into our lives.

Carol said...

Chloe hows the book reading option on your Kindle? It must be a computer generated sound, huh? I thought I would like to be read to sleep at night. I have a tendency to fall asleep when I try to read, especially at night but I do like to listen to something pleasant at bedtime.

I was even thinking last night how it would be interesting to pipe the classics into the prison dorms at night. So many complain of insomnia and I won't order sleeping pills. I tell them that we just aren't going to make jail a pleasant experience. It seems to be pleasant enough that many want to keep repeating it.

I tell the ones who can't sleep to use that time to visualize a better life plan, that what they can concieve and believe, they can achieve. C+B=A.

Anonymous said...

Carol, The Kindle doesn't have computer sounds. I think because it's made to be quiet like a book. You can be reading several books at once, and it keep track of where you are on each one (kinda like dog earing). They also have some form of audio, where it will read the book to you, while you're driving, etc. I've never tried it, but have heard it's kinda funky. Not like a book tape. I used to love to listen to those book tapes when I did more driving. I especially liked the the John MacDonald Travis McGee series. Went through them all on tape, as well as many others, including all of Elmore Leonard's books. Travis McGee

Anonymous said...

Carol, You got that right. I have a lot of little ones depending on me, indeed. It's mind boggling at times, but I love them all, so the job gets done. I'm getting that feeder this morning, but I'm glad you mentioned, so it'll be on the top of my list.

You're also right about Emma being sure to love those hummers. We're usually right next to that window where I'm going to hang it. You know, it's like she lives in a zoo around this place.

Cardinals are what I have most of too, but also a lot of Blue Jays (who are much more combative than those little cardinals, and a lot bigger). The Cardinals are my favorite, and they sing beautiful songs to me every morning and usually throughout the day.

Well Chloe, did you get any hummingbird feeders?

jan said...

I have been following the posts on occasion. Its a heavy week for me -beginning of a new school term and a new course. Have only a little time for personal pursuits. I read the posts when I can. I did not know that wearing red attracts the hummers. Have not had time to buy some feeders. We seldom see hummers now. The mornings are pretty cool. I miss them.

Carol said...

Jan,

I found a website that had a video from this couple in northern New Mexico. They put out 19 feeders. They said the hummers are there until October. It's not too late Jan.

The website is:

http://howtoenjoyhummingbirds.com/

I tried to do that thing Chloe does but had problems so you will have to copy and paste this website.

jan said...

Chloe, you asked me about facebook some time ago. I don't follow facebook any longer- just not enough time, but my e-mail address is jwayland@salud.unm.edu. I love hearing about Emma. I grew up with horses. When I was a child we lived in the country and I had my own horse, Molly. I didn't have a saddle, but I bridled her and rode her often. We lived on 80 acres and when I rode her, she was slow walking out to the end of our land, but when we started back home, she ran like the wind. I would wrap my legs around her, indian style and it felt like we were one being.

Carol said...

Look for the video called "Hummingbird's Haven."

jan said...

Carol, I will check out this websit. Maybe Friday I will have time to get to Wallyworld and get some feeders. I guess our trees and plants are not providing much for the hummers any longer.

Carol said...

You plan on ever retiring Jan?

jan said...

I am thinking about retiring next June 30. Nursing has been a good trip. I do love weekends when I don't have to do anything if I don't want to. I would like to take some art courses. Do you paint? I would like to do some water color painting? My oldest granddaughter (Amie) lives here (Terry's oldest daughter) and she is having a baby in Jan. I would like to have the time to spend some time with that baby. Can you believe I have a 28 year old granddaughter?

Carol said...

Dang Jan, we're getting old. What's weird is that inside my head, I'm still 20. I'm shocked when I pass a mirror but it helps that the vision goes at the same time so it's hard to see all the wrinkles.

Jan, It sounds like you're so busy. We appreciate hearing from you whenever you have the time and energy. That was such a wonderful story from your childhood. I could visualize how great that must have been on that horse, for a young girl feeling one with that kind of power. What a good memory.

Thanks for the email address Jan. Mine is chloe@doubt.com is you want to hang onto it, just in case.

If you're having trouble with the links, here is the one Carol posted (just click on the blue) That hummingbird link

Carol, I couldn't get the feeder today, so will tomorrow. Today, by the time we were through at Ross and Target, Emma was demanding a nap. I thought Target would have them, but they didn't, so tomorrow we'll go to WM and get it. Then I have to get it hung outside the window and not on a banister, because of the cats. They'll sit there and wait if there's a ledge they can wait on. They're very patient hunters, so I have to always be one step ahead of them. But I manage, because I haven't found anything dead in a long time.

hmmmm, me like anything chocolate. By the way Carol, thanks for the recipe for enchaladas. I think I will try it this weekend. I made a great easy soup last night that husb likes. I call it "southwest chicken and bean soup." A friend in OK first gave it to me - and I have changed it a little. She called it "dump soup"
this is her version:
Dump in a large pan: 3 large cans chicken breast (do not drain), 4 cans great northern beans (do not drain), 1 jar picante sauce; 1 1/2 teasp. ground cumin. Let heat through, Add 2 cups monterray jack cheese.
I usually use left over chicken or cut up a chicken that is already cooked that I buy at the store, and use a combination of monerray jack and cheddar cheese.
So, this is my contribution for the week.

"I couldn't believe how many gray hairs were im my gotee and on my arms, never knew"

LOL Tony. And I know you're not kidding. I'd forgotten about you getting that surgery. I'd like to have it done, but maybe I'd better rethink it. That good vision thing can really be a drawback.

Thanks for sharing that little bit of humor with us Tony. You're great!

solarcrete said...

you don't need no stickin spell check here...JW Said so...

Anonymous said...

Tony, sorry about the time, and the spell check (although my firefox spell check works for me here - you'd never believe it though) and not being able to link.

We're roughin' here.

"Sometimes I sit here and think....what do I want to know right now?"

Me too! There is no question I can possibly think of that I can't find the answer to. Isn't it unbelievable.

Carol said...

No need to spell anything correctly. We're based here in the swamp in Louisiana. No one will know it's wrong.

Anonymous said...

What Carol said Tony. We've nicknamed the place 'The Swamp'.

Carol said...

But if you don't want your eye to pee Tony, don't give it Lasix. It's a diuretic. I speak nurse also.

Anonymous said...

Aha... Lasix vs Lasik. You gotta be careful around a medical person. :)

Ha Solar,
But I do!! I have gotten so used to it.I remember when I first started on TM,my spelling was terrible.Jamie got after me,so i got spell check going.I have gotten pretty good.

Ha,Chloe
Its working,I guess i have gotten good at spelling..I love my eye being fixed.I do see some more things in the mirror though..I love it now, when I go to the store,no more pulling the item so far back, its just pick it up and read the label..

Anonymous said...

Well, it's that time.
See you tomorrow.

I need to have the same thing done Tony. I think you were smart to have it done, and I don't know why I just don't do it, so I can stop looking around for these dumb reading glasses. nite

I don't know nuttin about that eye surgery. Ain't my specialty but getting people peeing in more in my line of work.

Good night Chloe,
Oh you should check into Lasik.I have had no problems, its been a joy...

I try to use Wiktionary to look up words I can't spell but can't because I can't spell them to look them up. Wiktionary isn't very helpful. But someone on the Trail mentioned using a google search so I put in how I think a word might be spelled and have better luck finding the proper spelling there.

Good old Smiddy's Bar in the summer of 71.

Jan, was having a flashback. Thinking of getting older. Remember our summer in the mental institution? I think I mentioned it before. Back then we had a psych rotation and the class spent the summer at one of the state mental institutions. That was when they had mental institutions. Good old days. Some of us actually got to come home after the summer was over.

We did go home every weekend and came back on Mondays. Every Monday evening to start our week off right, we went to the big city, a town close to where the institution was located, and hit Smiddy's Bar. A real joint, with a juke box and about 4 battered booths. The booths had bench seats covered in torn faux leather. A real classy place and we usually had it all to ourselves.

It had a dance floor that was about 4x4 feet square. I had my usual, 3 beers and got pretty snockered on them. Arther, a very heavy set guy, and me, a string bean at the time, would do our version of the jitter bug. He would throw me up in the air then throw me down between his legs. I would hit him in the nuts, he would drop me on the floor. We had lots of fun.

When everyone else caught up with my state of inebriation, took them a little longer, we'd go across the street to the city park and play chase. I would jump the hurricane fence and clear it pretty good, had long legs Arther would try, and usually take off half of one of his legs, he was short and had a little too much weight to carry.

Afterwards, if the cops didn't get us, we'd go back to the dorm where everything would be spinning. I'd spend some quality time in the bathroon, hugging one of these nasty johns. Those bathrooms in institutions had those little checkered square floors. It isn't fun watching those little squares go round and round in circles at about 50mph.

Next day we'd often have class in the alcohol treatment ward where I would be swearing to God I wouldn't do it again but the next week we were back a Smiddy's Bar starting all over again.

May have already told you this story. That's what's bad about getting old, you repeat yourself a lot. Well I'll tell it again, for the new kid here, lil Tony.

Nite all.

jan said...

Carol, I too use google for spelling. Some things computers have replaced: dictionaries, phone books - I just put mine out for recycling last week. I am off to bed to read "my life in France, by Julia Child. Now I want to go to France.

jan said...

Carol, Those were the days. I was a serious married-lady student who stayed back at the dorm when you guys went to Smiddy's bar. I am sorry I didn't go with you now. I do remember those "rainy days and Mondays."

Carol said...

Just woke up from a dream that you and the boys came down to visit and I was trying to think of something to cook. The boys were still kids. Then I woke up and thought, they aren't kids anymore. They have kids.

I was sure Jan that you were also with us. Are you sure you didn't go, at least some of the times? Well, maybe Smiddy's wasn't big enough for all seven of us.

Well you were involved when we stuffed the guys underwear in you and Linda's suitcases and your underwear in the guys suitcases. I do remember Bob was on to us when you got home and he watched you unload the clothes. He played along and enjoyed having you try to explain that one.

jan said...

Carol, well there's the memory thing again. I have no memory of the bar or the guy's underwear in our suitcases. I do remember us girls stealing your clothes while you were in the shower and you took down the shower curtain to wrap up in so you could get to your room to get more clothes.

Carol said...

Well Jan, you got me on that one. I do remember it now. I was very modest and not going to walk down the hall naked. I think if that shower curtain wouldn't have been there I would have ripped off the toilet seats to cover up in.

This afternoon I watched a Dr. Phil show where they discussed Michael Vick and if he should have been accepted back in the NFL. My opinion is noooo. There are so many who have made mistakes and have been prohibited from returning to their professions. Like teachers who had inappropriate relationships with their students. Nurses who were impaired, usually they have to have repeated offenses and others.

I just don't think a person who could brutally murder poor innocent animals because they wouldn't fight should be out their representing a sport that so many kids are passionate about. There has to be something evil in a person who could kill animals in that way. A few years in jail won't change that.

Maybe Vick should have looked for a job in politics. Or maybe a lobbiest for the insurance industry. Or a banker. Some profession where it helps not to have a conscience.

And Dr. Phil had someone from the NCAA. That guy was saying that people where against Vick because he was black. I'm really tired of that card being pulled out anytime someone happens to be against someone who just so happens to be black.

And what pisses me off even more is that same spokesman for the NCAA blamed it on the south like killing dogs is part of the culture in the south. I could have jumped through my TV and bitten that guy's hand. Those of us raised in the south love our dogs!

Carol said...

Another idea...Michael Vick could be Dick Cheney's body guard. That's the ticket.

Anonymous said...

"I'm really tired of that card being pulled out anytime someone happens to be against someone who just so happens to be black. "

Amen

"And what pisses me off even more is that same spokesman for the NCAA blamed it on the south"

I hear that BS constantly. I can't believe they're vilifying a whole section of the U.S., so they can blame all the problems on them. One more form of prejudice to add to the list.

jan said...

I completely agree with you both. I for one do not intend to watch the Eagles play this year. What he did to poor defenseless animals deserves more punishment that that. Also, it is pretty well understood that those who are cruel to animals are very capable of doing the same things to people. I sure would not want him around my grandchildren.

jan said...

Carol, so interesting that you dreamed about the boys - Do you know they are 43,48,49 years old now? They are really good people too. Of course, I am not biased! I told them that we have re-connected again, and they are all pleased about that. How old is your nephew, Jeremy? You say he is married?

Carol said...

Sorry about getting my organization confused. That guy was from the NAACP and not NCAA.

jan said...

I thought about Ivy this morning. We have a spider in her web in front of our front door. She's a pretty big spider. We don't see too many of those in a web - probably see more in himid climates. We have had several rainy nights lately - you must have sent some this way Carol. By the way, how is your river - still danger of flooding?

Carol said...

Chloe, we in the south have enough things that we can take credit for but being evil and cruel isn't one of them. We are nice, hosptitable people who love our critters.

Carol said...

Jan, it was neat dreaming about you guys. I was a nervous wreck trying to come up with something everyone wanted to eat. I woke up sweating.

Carol said...

It's hard to imagine those boys being that old.

Carol said...

Nope Jan, the water's down. No problemo.

Carol said...

Jeremy is 33. Born in 1976, you helped, remember that?

Carol said...

Chloe, When people pull out that race card to justify, or excuse, or blame, it all loses credibility for me. We women can't pull out the estrogen card.

I do like Obama but playing the race card was used quite a bit during the election, especially when he was running against Hillary. I think it actually may have set race relationship back a good bit.

Carol said...

Hope Ivy is having a good time and I'm sure she is. Earth to Ivy..... Check in sister.

jan said...

I do remember - Can't believe its been 33 years. I was a doula and didn't know it. I remember that I figured out he was "breech." Your mom gave me a BP cuff for working with Mary. That was sweet of her - she didn't have to do that. I enjoyed the work with Mary and Jeremy. I kept that BP cuff until it almost fell apart.

I also remember working with a young family for one of master's courses that your mom helped me connect with. The young woman was having her 2nd child and really wanted to breast feed. I did some teaching with her and the entire family sat in the living room with us while I told her stuff about breast feeding. When I told her that she needed to empty her breasts every time she nursed (by pumping if the baby didn't do it), because if she didn't she would eventually quit making milk. Her father in law broke in (he was a farmer and had milk cows) and said "that is just how it is with cows." I told that story in my class the next week and I won some good points with my teacher.

jan said...

I voted for Obama, but I really wanted Hillary to win in the primaries. I was disappointed when she lost. Our Governor (Richardson) here in NM was a good friend of the Clintons when Bill was pres. but he came out early for Obama after the state of NM went for Hillary. Me and some of my friends have not forgiven him for that.

Carol said...

Yep, Jan diagnosed Mary with pre eclampsia when her Doc didn't know it. Recognized he was breech when her Doc didn't know it. He let her go about 24 hours in labor. Yep, it takes a nurse...

jan said...

I hope I have not scared off the guys with the last posts. Are you still around solar?

Carol said...

I still have my Hillary, Madame President T-shirt one of my staff got me in Washington. I still wear it. I was crushed when she she lost. I still think she would have been better. I think all involved knew she couldn't be manipulated as Obama has been. That's why the power mongers helped to take her down.

Carol said...

And women...women have so many self esteem issues that I don't think they can imagine a women leading this country. Women really disappointed me during the primaries, especially the young ones. They have had it much easier because of women like Hillary but they don't have a clue...

Carol said...

Solar is comfortable with his masculinity. He's not so easily run off. He likes us tough women.

Carol said...

All those who stabbed Hillary in the back got their karma. They were used.

Anonymous said...

I'm not caught up yet, but am going to jump right in before I finish.

Jan, Your spider is symbolic, I think. Especially since it's outside your front door like Ivy's is.

Carol, I really laughed when I heard that you got nervous in your dream trying to figure out what everyone wanted to eat. It sounds like it turned into more of nightmare.

Carol, Did you see how see how outspoken I was at TM today regarding the race card (like you mentioned in your post)?

jan said...

I was pretty disturbed before the primaries at Obama's team because I thought they were trying to make some things the Clinton group said look racist.

Hey Chloe, what are you up to? Is Emma keeping you busy tonight?

We have had some drastic changes in weather today. We are getting thunder storms here. I love the sound of rain. So nice to get cool weather too.

Anonymous said...

"Women really disappointed me during the primaries, especially the young ones. "

Me too Carol, but Hillary got more votes than Obama. Don't forget that. She got a lot of women's votes too, just the young ones didn't have a clue. Still don't.

jan said...

Good to hear from you Chloe. I have checked in at other blogs - but can't keep up with any but this one.

Carol do you dream much about cooking or food? I find I dream about the same things over and over. My dreams usually involve babies and houses and getting lost and not being able to find my way home.

jan said...

Chloe, I had forgotten that Hillary got the most votes. You are so right, the young women in our country have no idea what it used to be like for women.

Carol said...

Craig Crawford,Trailmix, was one of the only pundits or news people who treated Hillary fairly and without bias. That's how I found him and one of the reasons I love him.

Anonymous said...

Hi Jan, Emma is now down for the night. But you're right, she really does keep me busy.

I envy your rain, and I love the sound of it, as you do. I'm 'always' happiest when it's raining. I don't know why.

I don't think I'd call the weather here cool yet, but it's a little cooler at night.

jan said...

Chloe, Hmm. what could the spider be symbolic of? I have forgotten, was Ivy's spider symbolic?

Anonymous said...

Jan, I have repeat dreams about finding my way home too. I'll bet we could find some interesting interpretations for that one, but I think it must involve some insecurity.

Anonymous said...

We never completely understood the meaning, but we are still looking for one Jan. It just struck me as odd, that you rarely get them, and then Ivy leaves and one turns up on your porch.
Just playing with the idea.

Anonymous said...

"All those who stabbed Hillary in the back got their karma. "

..not all, Carol.

Anonymous said...

"He let her go about 24 hours in labor."

They don't do that anymore. They go to C Section so quickly. I was surprised....don't know if it's to avoid complications or what.

Carol said...

I haven't gotten over to the Trail yet today Chloe. I've been busy and tonight I have been watching the finals of America's Got Talent. It down to the final two and so far it seems the show ought to be renamed, America has bad taste. They have a chicken catcher who can't carry a tune in a bucket as one of the last two finalist. If he wins, that's it for this show next season.

Unknown said...

Good evening!
Good post's ladies.Chloe you had some good ones at TM too...I agree regarding Craig he was so fair, especially given his connection to MSNBC..I saw him on KO and he was great so I ditched MSM Cable news for TM...

jan said...

Wow! we seldom see spiders in webs here. We have a couple of small rooms in a basement in our house and have crawl space down there too - so it is pretty common to find some dead spiders down there. What could this mean?

Interesting Chloe that you have dreams about finding your way home too. I like to do journaling about my dreams. The last time I had the one about "not being able to find my way home" my journaling turned up that I am having some really mixed feelings about retiring soon.

Carol said...

There's still time Chloe. For karma, that is.

Anonymous said...

Well, at some point you need to at least check out the last one Craig wrote. It's about everyone using the race card, and I was thrilled that he wrote it. The three or so previous threads, there was constant talk of racism again.

Anonymous said...

I'm beat tonight.
See you two tomorrow.

jan said...

I think a big reason the docs go to c-sections so soon is they think it will avoid law suits.

Anonymous said...

"There's still time Chloe. For karma, that is."

Yes! I just got a little spurt of energy when you said that. Revenge is sweet! I'll sleep better tonight knowing there's still time. Ha!

Carol said...

Hi Tony.

Jan, your spider and spider web just helps to validate my theory that thinking about something, help it materialize. Ivy initiated that. Ut Oh, hope we don't see any bears!!!

Anonymous said...

I figured that Jan. They don't take any chances any more. It's all about saving lives (I hope). nite.

Carol said...

Never have dreams about getting lost.

Taking care of a little one is hard work. Good night Chloe and sweet dreams. I have a desk top computer, and the space between my shoulders is hurting - so will bid good night too.

Anonymous said...

Hi Tony! I didn't know you were here. You're right! Craig's post was right on. He's always able to look at things dead center, and keeps a fair view of things. I have so much respect for him.

Anonymous said...

I enjoyed the chat Jan. Rest up.

Carol said...

Don't forget another factor guys. C-sections make more money. Don't believe that isn't a factor. Medicine is a business.

One of the staff at work today was complaining about the cost of a CT scan she had. She couldn't believe it was over $4000. She didn't think we needed health care reform last week.

Anonymous said...

Tony, before I go, I just have to say how much I always appreciate your support. It makes it a lot easier to say what you want at TM, when you know you've got someone there who's on your side. Thanks.

Carol said...

Nite guys.

jan said...

Carol, interesting that you said that "your theory about thinking about something helps it materialize." I went to a great presentation yesterday by a Navajo woman doctor and one of the Navajo beliefs is that "talking about something can make it happen." So when it comes to death and illness they don't talk about such things. They will not ask the prognosis of thier illness.

Anonymous said...

"talking about something can make it happen."

I completely believe that beyond any doubt Jan.

Unknown said...

Chloe,
Always,your great..Carol you too..

... or just thinking about something too much, good or bad, the same rule holds true. I think our brains are wired that way. Our subconscious is so powerful, and seems to be able to accomplish anything we want it to do.

I'll check out the Trail Chloe. I usually don't miss a day and if I don't have time to read it all I just put in your name and other names I like to read into the "find on this page" under edit and just read those.

Carol, That stuff I said to Tony. I should have said it to you too.

Carol said...

America's Got Talent just picked the worst talent of the finalist as the winner. That does it for that show. Network TV? What a waste of time. There must be a lot of chicken catchers watching this dumb show. He can't even carry a tune.

Carol said...

Thanks Chloe. Nite, nite. Take your map and compass to bed with you.

The only frustrating recurrent dreams I have is trying to make a phone call in an emergency and I can't dial the number. Also, if I ever try to shot someone who is after me, the bullet just falls out of the end of the barrel or the gun falls apart in my hands.

"the bullet just falls out of the end of the barrel or the gun falls apart in my hands"
