Rejoice & Celebrate, Happy Easter

Notre Dame of Easton, decorated with hydrangeas, lilies in anticipation of Easter Mass celebrations...
A diorama depicting the women at Jesus' tomb on Resurrection Day...the angel said to them..."Why do you look for the living among the dead?  He is not here. He is risen!"
And the first signs of Spring...a lone crocus and a pair of mallards cruising the wetlands....

This is the only Catholic Church in Easton, my mom attends...a small parish unlike St. Theresa's pics shared with you last year...It is not even half the size...

The flowers adorning the altar fills the church with a very pleasing fragrance...

Outside they have created a Resurrection scene in the structure that hold the Nativity scene at Christmas...

And finally, the first real signs of spring...one crocus popped up & a pair of mallards cruising the wetlands today...

Great pics Coreen. I really love the smaller churches. I feel closer to God in them. I loved Mom and Pa's little church. It was a pretty church but would have been prettier if they would have used the money mom donated to back light the stained glass windows up in the front/top of the church.

Carol said...

When Mom and Pa were still here, I usually went to church with them on the "religious" holidays. I always enjoyed going and snuggling up between the two of them.

I do love most of the seasonal music.

One of my favs:

Christ the Lord is risen today

Coreen said...

About accents...No, don't think Renee & I sound alike...

Accent? What Accent?

Carol said...

I have some little wild flowers popping up in my front yard here that look just like the one you posted. Didn't have any Mallards here this year. Remember when I had that Mallard family here? It was the only year I had them. Hanging out around a lot of gun toting rednecks is not healthy for Mallards.

jan said...

Coreen, the pictures are gorgeous. Is that you taking the picture in front of the diorama?

The flower is exquisite.

jan said...

I commented before reading the comments.

jan said...

The last picture intrigues me Coreen. The trees are reflected in the water and love the green color of one of the mallards.

When I blow up the picture of the crocus, it is amazing- colors of the flower and the leaves and the lines through these.

I can see why people come here to see your Easter pictures. If you would give me permission, I may blow up the last 2 for wall photos.

Carol said...

Coreen, this is your most popular Easter post:

Happy Easter To All

Carol said...

May have been little Coreen with the huge scary bunny. Or little Maggie with her bunny.

RebelliousRenee said...

Coreen...
I love the pictures. Funny.... I haven't been inside a Catholic church in a long time... yet, I could smell the incense oozing from those pictures.

I've been told I have a Massachusetts accent... which is where I was born and raised. But it is not a Boston accent... that one is unique to that city.

Happy Easter!

RebelliousRenee said...

BTW, Coreen...
I'm jealous that those pictures show that your snow is gone. We're still buried with at least a foot of the stuff.

No flowers for us for awhile. But the ponds and rivers are ice free... and I have noticed the geese and ducks are starting to return.

Thank god the temps are getting warmer and the sun is stronger. I've never minded winter before... but this one has gone on for tooooo long.

Coreen said...

Happy Easter...and its a good start to the day here...

Yes Jan that is my reflection...taking pics outside it is difficult to see what the camera viewer shows so I just snap away...& certainly feel free to
use any pic you want...

Coreen said...

Not sure why that Easter post gets activity Carol, may be the Easter bunny himself that likes stopping by...

Crocus colors around here are usually purples, yellows, white...followed by those flowers that are in the pink family...azaleas, rhodys, don't see the deep colors reds, oranges until summertime...

Coreen said...

Renne, I did not hear a real MA accent, just maybe a tinge of what I consider 'new englander' with some of your words...

Being tucked between NY & MA, maybe CT compensated for both influences & we wound up not having a distinct accent...

Carol said...

Happy Special, anything you want it to be, Day! It does represent a day of renewal. New life is all around us, even if it's only a sweet, beautiful little purple wild crocus.

Coreen said...

Carol, they are doing a piece about Mary right now on CBS good morning...

Dang Coreen, I missed it. You know how much I love "Mary". I usually watch that show and do have it recorded at the house.

Carol said...

I searched my TV quide and couldn't find much this year on Bible stuff.

United Kingdom 22

Ukraine 7

Carol said...

As you can see, we may look like an intimate little group here at the Swamp but we aren't alone.

Coreen said...

Yes that's why I tried to let you know when it came on...there was one thing mentioned that don't think I ever heard...some expert
said that there was a 'rift' between Mary & her son because of what Jesus responded when someone mentioned his mother...(can't state what the quote was exactly, maybe you can get the piece later if sunday morning puts it up for viewing) it also mentioned she went with John the Baptist after the crucifixation/resurrection to live in Turkey a town named esaphis? not sure of the name, again something I don't recall hearing...

Coreen said...

Carol, the biggest event on cable that last few weeks has been the series 'The Bible', with big audiences on the History Channel (it was created by the guy who came up with Survivor, the Apprentice & his wife Roma Downey an actress I think she was in Touched by an Angel(they have been on several talk shows about the unexpected success of this series...

just looked at the tv guide & right now there is Jesus the lost 40 days & then starting at noon repeats of 'The Bible' with the last chapter 'Passion' tonight from 8-10 pm...

A Blessed Passover, Happy Easter. I think Passover is soon over, but here is a wish anyway.

It is a beautiful morning here in Albuquerque. We are having highs in 70's now.

John is celebrating Eucharist at the 10 service in our little church here. I am celebrating at home. I have a little stomach thing this morning.

jan said...

John got a very nice and sweet surprise yesterday afternoon. The people that bought our house in AR 10 years ago sent him a card and a check for $500. I want to share the message with you all here.
"Dear Mr. B., This may seem a bit crazy and you may not remember us, but my husband and I bought our current home from you almost 10 years ago. We have loved our home and have ...raised our 4 children and an adopted Chinese orphan here. We are in process of moving as we need more room. As we prepare to sell our home, God has placed you upon our hearts. We know that you are a very kind man who has spent many years serving our Lord faithfully. You did much in kindness as you sold your home to us in Sept 2003. One thing in particular is that you gave us your riding lawn mower knowing we would need it. We never felt right about not giving you something for the mower which turned out to be very reliable and now God has heavily laid upon our hearts to give you something that might bless you in the way your kindness blessed us. Please cash this $500. check and know our hearts are grateful for you.

The card and message meant more to John than the money. I have not seen him cry often, but he did yesterday.

Carol said...

It's already 72 here and forecasted to get to 80.

Coreen, I went to my house to put some clothes in the wash and did see most of that section of the CBS morning show about Mary. I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention because I didn't hear what you are talking about.

Carol said...

That was very special Jan and thanks for sharing that with us. Just another sign to me..

Carol said...

Coreen, I was familiar with the series on the Bible. I wasn't moved to watch it. I prefer documentaries.

Coreen said...

Looks like the segment on Mary attracted some instant criticism...

just googled rift between Mary & Jesus & voila, here is the transcript from Sunday Morning...

the so-called rift interpretation is from a Professor, segment comments seem to disagree & point out that it could not have been John the Baptist because he had already been killed...so much for whatever agenda the segment was meant to convey...including the bit about being a harlot in old jewish texts (heard that mentioned but didn't want to add to the oddness of the story)...
again different points of view that can not be definitively established, another of the mysteries that will likely remain for as long as there is a human presence....
Who was Mary

Coreen said...

Jan, reaffirmation that the man you married is a truly special guy...

Carol said...

I found 2 things on H2 that look interesting. One is "Proving God". New scientific discoveries and digital age technology try to reveal tangible proof of God. 3 p central

"Angels & Demons Decoded". Scenes from the movie interweave with interviews with scholars to try to unravel mysteries. 5 p central I bet they are scholars who I am familiar with and have books written by.

Carol said...

Just watched a few minutes of "the Bible". Too violent for me.

Carol said...

John might be interested in the two I plan to watch.

Carol said...

You are aware Coreen that it was one of the past Pope's that started the rumor that Mary M was a prostitute? The Catholic church has done everything they can to discredit women. There is info from some of the Gnostic Gospels that Mary was supposed to start the church, not Peter.

Like Bill Maher said on his show, the Catholic church set up dumb rules that were never from anything found in the Bible. They really screwed women. I guess they were/are afraid of us.

RebelliousRenee said...

Jan... what a wonderful story about the people who bought your former home... and what a great testament to your husband.

Carol... the misogyny within the Catholic church is the number one reason why I can never go back.

jan said...

Carol, I have another friend whose dog just died. They had to put him down. He had a mass in his abdomen - like Lobie did. I went back to 2010 and found the poem you posted for us. It is still beautiful. My friend is on FB and she just wrote to thank me for the poem. So, thank you again.

jan said...

The name of the poem is "I'm Still Here." It still makes me teary to read it.

jan said...

Renee, I am missing you guys so went over to TM to see if you were there. I found the link of the Don McClean song about Vincent VG you posted. That was so beautiful. I have heard that song many times and never knew he was singing it about VVG. How amazing! Thank you.

Carol said...

When we're kids we're introduced, from an early age, to these wild and crazy stories/characters such as the Easter bunny, Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, etc. Probably, even at a fairly young age, we question the reality of those characters, if we allow a couple of our brain cells to form a connection. We don't question it hard enough to make it go away. They are some pretty cool characters.

We do wait for someone along the way to finally say....April Fool, we just made that up so we could have an excuse to buy you some presents. Hey, that's a good reason to forgive anyone for those lies.

Well, the Bible/religion presents us with as much, if not more, of a wild and crazy story and it's not as cute and cuddly as the Easter bunny or Santa Claus and doesn't bring any gifts, that we can eat or play with today. Some children may wait for someone to finally say...April fool on that story also. Some people eventually come to that conclusion on their own. Some just suspend their intellect so that they can continue to believe, even if there are many flaws in the story. We want to believe that there's something to the good parts of the story.

It is interesting though that those cute and cuddly stories, Easter bunny and Santa Claus, were/are associated with the major significant Bible stories. I bet that was no accident. It's probably one reason people did/do hang on the the other so much.

Well, happy April Fool's Day.

I need to get my tax stuff to my accountant today. I'm very late.

Carol said...

Guys, is that Yankee's Red Socks game on ESPN at noon today a real game? I'm surprised that you haven't been talking about the season starting today Coreen. What a game to start with, considering our little Swamp group here. Renee, you are a Sox's fan, right?

I'm nervous and they aren't even my teams.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol... hope your taxes go ok.

All of the Christian holiday symbols that we grew up with were brought here from immigrants. Things such as the Easter bunny and the Christmas tree were melded into Christianity when the Romans conquered England. English pagan symbols combined with the Christian myths. The patron saint of the Greeks, St. Nikolis became Santa Claus... his reindeer came from Finland.

The Roman conquests is what spread Christianity throughout the world. But they were tolerant enough to let the peoples they conquered to adapt Christianity and let it mix with their own religions at the time.

Who knows how many times those Biblical stories have changed. All cultures have creation myths. I guess at heart, human beings are story tellers.

RebelliousRenee said...

Yes....
the Red Sox and Yankees play their first game of the season this afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

Of course I'm a Red Sox fan... I'm from Massachusetts.

And don't be nervous over me. I LOVE sports... but understand it's just entertainment. If my team loses, the sun still rises the next morning.

But with that said.... GO RED SOX! :)

Carol said...

I know Renee. Almost, if not all, of the fun things associated with the Christian holidays were stolen from pagan holidays to make the Christian stuff more palatable.

Carol said...

I think even the dates that we celebrate some of the holidays.

Carol said...

This small town in Georgia, Nelson, will be voting on whether every family in town will be required to have a gun. They said they wouldn't enforce it, it's just to send a message. Well, the message they are sending is that we are creating laws that don't mean shit and we don't plan to enforce. How brilliant. If the people in Nelson Georgia vote for this new law, they are morons.

Carol said...

Do you guys have any idea, from the preseason games, how your teams are doing this season or is today going to be a surprise?

Carol said...

I know that the Red Soxs had a bad year last year but have made some adjustments and have new additions. The Yankees kinda ended their season on a bad note. Also the Yank's team is older and Jeter isn't playing yet.

Carol said...

I good while back I suggested that someone invent an app that would monitor the user's online behavior and send the user a warning.."better think twice about that". I just heard on HLN that someone must have done that. Haven't heard the details yet but it's about time.

Coreen said...

It is a beautiful day...and spring starts today officially about 1 pm New York time....

Will there be surprises in the stadium, who knows, as long as when it is over New York is 1-0!!...

Don't know about espn Carol, here game is on YES....

Carol said...

I can watch it on ESPN today Coreen and I'll be checking it out. I'm not a huge sport's fan as you know but do love many sports when I can find some personal connection to a game/team. I won't just watch a sport just for the love of sports.

Carol said...

The app is called a "Fireme" app. I don't know how it works. I don't have to worry about that anymore. There were things I was concerned about writing, even here, when I was working.

Coreen said...

And it wouldn't be opening day without hearing this....many thanks to Terry Cashman...

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol...
I've watched a few preseason games... and of course, I've kept up with the news over on espnboston.com. The guy who is the main Red Sox reporter on that website was the valedictorian of my high school graduating class. I usually read his stuff.

I think the team is improved this year... and I really love their new manager. He used to be their pitching coach. I don't know if they'll make the playoffs this year... but I look forward to seeing them play better than last year.

RebelliousRenee said...

Hey Coreen...
may we both enjoy the season....
and I'll be a good sport and say good luck to your Yankees... just not too much of it, though :)

Coreen said...

And without doubt this....many thanks John Fogerty...

jan said...

Carol, as you get further into Jung, you will find he talks a lot about myth. All of the Bible stories are really our myths of Christianity. When John told me this, it helped me put to rest all of the stuff I heard as a child which frightened me.

Renee is so right, we all have creation myths. The native tribes in this country have theirs. The Navajo have a beautiful creation myth. One of the things I would like to study now that I don't have to do it for a grade are the different myths of past centuries and cultures. These myths help us to understand our dreams too.

Coreen said...

Yes Renee hope we all get to enjoy the season...& I never count the Red Sox out especially when they are playing my team...

Challenging for both teams this year, but as Tug McGraw said so long ago...'Ya gotta believe'...

jan said...

You all will have to excuse me from your talks about sports. I am just not into sports. But I will follow what you say here.

Carol said...

Jan, it's not required that you be a sport's fan. I can swing both ways. It is interesting that your having been in a mostly male family environment all those years that you didn't acquire a little more of an interest in sports.

Carol said...

Great temp for a BB game today.

Coreen said...

Needless to say not a happy camper...do not like to lose on opening day in the stadium & to those red sox!...oh well, tomorrow's another day...well Wednesday really...and 1 down, 161 to go....

Carol said...

I wasn't going to mention it.

jan said...

I don't understand either why I don't care much for sports. I just find watching sports so boring. I would rather do almost anything else.

My oldest 2 sons and several grandchildren are literally sports addicts.

BTW, we saw the guy break his leg yesterday in the basketball game.

Carol said...

I think that happened the day before yesterday Jan. . Did you see it on a rerun of the game? I was a tad curious but passed it up. I worked ER and ICU but really wanted my patients cleaned up before I saw them. If I ever came upon a accident scene, my legs were weak and I had this weird little pain in my inner thigh as I walked over to see if I could help. I had a lot of respect for EMTs. As an NP in ER I didn't get the major trauma unless it was to stitch someone up. They dumped that on me because it was tedious.

Carol said...

I guess that was yesterday, yesterday.

Carol said...

I wouldn't want to see that compound fracture. Was that visible Jan? When I used to watch surgery and see the surgeon slice into perfectly intact flesh, I got that same uncomfortable sensation in my inner thigh. You ever have anything like that Jan?

Carol said...

Do y'all remember when they showed that San Fransisco QB when he broke his lower leg years ago?

Another question Jan, what kInd of fall resulted in a compound fracture?

Carol said...

"The city council in a small north Georgia town voted Monday night to make gun ownership mandatory – unless you object."

"Council members in Nelson, a city of about 1,300 residents that's located 50 miles north of Atlanta, voted unanimously to approve the Family Protection Ordinance. The measure requires every head of household to own a gun and ammunition to "provide for the emergency management of the city" and to "provide for and protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/01/nelson-georgia-family-protection-ordinance_n_2995657.html

Oh, they don't plan on enforcing the law. Do you think that people who are stupid are aware of it??? I don't think they are. I wonder if they have included some disclaimer or something to protect the City
Council if a child in one of those families gets hold of the gun and kills themselves or another member of the family?

Carol said...

And these are usually people who don't want the government in their business or telling them what to do so they'll write a new law to do just that. Gol ah ah ah ah ly

RebelliousRenee said...

Well... Red Sox nation is breathing a sigh of relief. The Red Sox had lost their season opener 6 yrs in a row until yesterday. And after the last 2 seasons, winning the opener is already an improvement.

Yup, Coreen... 161 to go... and lots more between the Red Sox and Yankees.

RebelliousRenee said...

Jan... it's ok to not be into sports. I'm not into DWTS... yet I read those posts too.

BTW... last night was scrabble night... and I finally won a game. I'm getting the strategy of how to make multiple words. I used to try to get rid of the high score letters such as "Z" or "Q" as fast as I could. Now I know to hold onto them until you can use them on a double or triple word score. But of course, luck is involved too.

Congrats Renee on you scrabble win.

jan said...

We were watching the game on Sunday Carol. I was at my son's house and the game was on. I did not think it was a rerun. It seemed to happen just then.

He was on the basketball court and it did not look like that bad a fall.

It was awful. I think they are not showing the fall over and over like the media ususally does. Later the news said after the fall his teammates were crying and vomiting.

jan said...

Renee, thank you for that comment. We all like what we like. My dad liked sports when he was older, but he never played sports and we never went to sporting events when I was a child. I think it something you develop as a kid.

jan said...

I do remember as a child seeing some baseball or softball games in the small town where I grew up. My dad never played.

All 3 of my DIL's like sports too. They watch with my sons.

jan said...

TV was not such a big thing when I was growing up. They did not show much sports on TV until I was anolder teen.

I grew up in a small town so the major sporting events were HS basketball and baseball. When I was a teen, HS football was pretty big too. I did go to some football games as an older teen but did not pay much attention to the games.

Carol said...

I did find the video of the fracture just to see what was the mechanism of injury. It was a distant pic. It resulted from a jump up for a 3 point shot. They said his leg went under him. For a strapping young healthy guy, that sounds a little weird. It seems that there had to be some underlying weakness in that area.

Carol said...

They did mention a possible undetected stress injury but that's a weird place, mid tibia/fibula, for a stress injury.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol...
about that Georgia town.... methinks they just wanted to find a way to make the national news. The games people will play when they're attention starved can get kinda silly.

So now they've seen their 15 minutes of fame and can go walk about town with their chests puffed up and have fun bitchin' and moanin' about the lame stream media making fun of them. Hey... whatever floats their boat.

Carol said...

I don't think they can blame the lame stream media for making fools out of themselves. They didn't need any help. It almost seems like they have adolescences running that town. What kind of role models are they for their children??

Carol said...

I watched yesterday's DWTS online today. Who do y'all think will get the boot tonight? If must be between DL and Wynonna. I'd think Wynonna would have a bigger fan base. I don't think either of them have much potential for improvement. Wynonna just doesn't have the body for dancing. I don't think DL has the attitude for it.

Carol said...

Why aren't your teams playing BB tonight? Why do they skip a day?

jan said...

Carol, I too felt this was strange for a healthy young guy to break his leg so badly in this way.

I too think that it will be either Wynonna or Hughley that will leave DWTS. I don't think Wynonna is having a good time at all.

jan said...

Have added the Voice to our repertoire of TV watching. The Idol is on Wed and Thurs nights so we can watch them all.

Carol, have you seen Sheldon do the show on Fun with Flags. It is one of the funniest.

Carol said...

Never saw that show Jan. what is it on? Is this the first time you've watched the Voice? It's really a neat show

They have DWTS and the Voice on at different times tonight. That worked out for me.

Carol said...

I think Bruno wants a piece of the bachelor.

Carol said...

I think we may have a surprise elimination.

jan said...

Talked to son # 3 on phone for quite a while and am taping DWTS and Voice.

jan said...

I like the fact that on the Voice they preselect the better voices so there is no making fun of those who are in total denial about their talent or who are a little crazy or just want to get a couple of minutes fame to act stupid.

Carol said...

Well, the right couple was eliminated tonight. I'm glad.

jan said...

Loved seeing Bruno taking part in the one dance - YMCA. So funny. He looks pretty good for an old guy.

jan said...

Well, no surprise. Wynonna is leaving DWTS. She looked pretty miserable this week. She is an amazing country artist.

jan said...

Carol, I was talking about Sheldon on Big Bang... an episode where he is filming himself in a skit called "fun with flags." It is a scream.

jan said...

This is the first time I have watched the Voice.

Carol said...

Jan, for some reason I was thinking you were talking about Blake on the Voice. Yes, I have seen the flag thing on Big Bang. It is funny.

Carol said...

I think it's interesting that with this Keystone oil pipeline debate going on there's this nasty pipeline rupture in Arkansas. Is the Universe trying to send a little warning, maybe????

Seems the Universe has been sending lots of significant messages lately. Sadly, there are a lot of deaf, dumb and blind people out there. Denial is one of those defense mechanisms that people are very good at using. Super good at using.

Carol said...

And I just heard on TV that that little dumb town of Nelson Georgia, that recently approved a law to require that their residents all have a gun, has no violent crime in their recent history. Maybe now, they can add serious gun accidents to their history. Unfortunately it seems that it's only those who are directly suffering the consequences of bad decisions that learn from them. Everyone else just looks away. Humans, what can we do with them??

Carol said...

The weather woke me up before 2a with Maggie's help. She wanted up in my lap and she's no lap dog. It was pouring but not much thunder. When she felt like that would continue to be the case, she got down. I've had 3 inches of rain in an hour.

RebelliousRenee said...

OMG Carol... that's a lot of rain. We never see rain that heavy around here.

Why do our BB teams skip a day?... good question... and one I can't answer because I don't really know why.

Carol said...

It was a scary storm this morning. It came close to when the nasty stuff on the radar was almost passed us. The wind sounds were frightening. The camp started swaying with the wind. I turned on the outside lights and there was some serious wind outside. I looked at all my weather sites and couldn't find any indicating that kind of wind. Everything sitting at there in my yard was blown over. My news guys must have been sleeping at the station. I finally found something that indicated some gust close to 50mph. I think the ones out here were higher than that.

jan said...

Wow Carol, what a storm. I guess you feel pretty vulnerable out at the camp. I remember storms like that in LC and in Ar. - Heck, I remember them almost everywhere I have lived. We rarely have storms here.

Carol said...

It could have been worse. Places just west and south had baseball sized hail that did considerable damage. I didn't hear any significant hail.

Carol said...

Listening to sport's news, and I assume that you guys, Renee and Coreen probably do at times, can be as interesting as watching a soap opera. I listen to Yahoo Sports radio in my truck even though I don't spend much time in it these days.

Two interesting stories are...what the Rutger's coach did to his players and what that head official did about bribing someone to tee up some coach with money or a trip. The head official involved in the latter said it was a joke but shortly after he said that, the coach did get a penalty from one of the officials who heard the request. Both were in very bad taste. I can't believe people didn't already know what that coach who was slapping around his players was up to.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol...
I do know about the Rutgers coach. But the one about some head official... never heard of it.

I don't pay much attention to college sports. Whatever Rutgers decided to do with the situation is fine by me.

I don't pay much attention to all the crap happening in professional sports either... I just watch and enjoy the games.

The news is filled every day with too much stuff we're all supposed to be concerned about... some I pay attention to... and some I don't.

Coreen said...

Rutgers fired the coach this a.m....

video was made by an asst
who was terminated & probably is/will be suing the school...

what I heard on sportstalk about the coach Rice, he had an explosive/combative attitude all along...whether his behavior was
outrageous, don't know, but the media coverage forced rutgers to
rethink what they did initially...& now everyone gets to be the judge!...

moral of the story...in today's youtube world, be careful what you do/say because someone is always there to catch you...'let's go to the videotape'....

Coreen said...

and more pressing problems...it is cold & windy today...& it will be really cold in the stadium tonite...

Carol said...

Coreen, I figured you kept up with the sport's news and gossip. I did see some of those videos of that coach's behavior and heard pro athletes discussing what they thought. Also many of the sport's radio guys. The coach didn't have anyone defending his behavior. They all thought he should have been fired. What I saw was pretty rough. I think even Lebron James said if he was coaching one of his kids, he's take issue with that coach.

Yuk, cold and windy for BB. There was a game played night before last where it was in the 30s. That can't be easy on a pitcher. Good way to pull an arm muscle.

Had you heard about the comment from that official about making a technical call on coach? He was actually a conference basketball coordinator of officiating Ed Rush He said it was just a joke.

Don't know about the pac 12 referee Carol...the Rutgers thing is on NY sportstalk because it is
'local'...

RebelliousRenee said...

"& now everyone gets to be the judge!"

Coreen... you've got that right, IMO.

I would so not want to be at a baseball game here in the northeast tonight.... christ it's cold!.. it feels like February. I'll probably wrap myself in a fleece blanket just to watch the game on tv.

Carol said...

Coreen, I'm sorry about your guys. I thought that this was very rare for them to be 0-2 after the first two games but learned this happened last year also even thought last year was rare. They are missing a lot of players. When will your guys all be back? I was pulling for them. My rule is to pull for my team first, then if I don't have a dog in the race, I'll pull for a friends team. For the first game I was torn. Then it goes to pulling for the underdog. That was your guys last night.

Carol said...

And congrats to you Renee. How long has it been since your guys looked so good?

Carol said...

My guys, Atlanta, are 2-0 also but it's early for all of us. The worn can turn.

Carol said...

Something that i can't figure out, did that guy Rice get a warning and defy it or did he not have time to change his evil ways before that video hit the news? I really don't see how anyone can think they can get away with being that abusive. I wonder what kind of husband and father he was??? How long did he actually last in that job??

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol...
the Red Sox usually start slow for the month of April. Yeah... it's early. Coreen's team is wracked with injuries... they don't look like the Yankees. The rivalry, at the moment, doesn't feel the same.

I did have the Sports Hub (from Boston) on my radio while driving to pick up my meds yesterday. They were talking about Rice. They said the school was made aware of what was happening months ago. The school suspended him for 3 days and fined him $50,000. He did start changing his behavior. But a disgruntled former assistant coach had taken that video and gave it to espn. Once the media starts the ruckus... the school had no choice but to fire him. Now the outcry is to fire the Athletic Director and the President of Rutgers. IMO, we the public, have been manipulated and made to be outraged over some small stuff by the media. IMO, the coach needed to stop the behavior... he did... firing anyone isn't necessary.

Carol said...

Renee, the rule is live by the media, die by the media. Really, the guy should have never gotten by with that extreme behavior. It was pretty over the top. The guy needs therapy.

In contrast, that guy who had that nasty fracture turns out to be a pretty neat guy.

Carol said...

I think the fellow with the fracture will need to go through the grief process over what he is losing. Right now it may be the pain meds talking. We'll see.

Carol said...

Renee, we've seen how smart those universities have been when they tried to save someone with a serious problem, ie Sandisky. When will they learn?? Coaches should have a standard for their behavior. Abuse of any kind should definitely be prohibited.

Coreen said...

Losing to the Red Sox is always really annoying, but it is just too early to get too concerned...
Just go out & start over again...

And Renee you are right about both the look of the Yankees (no idea about some of the players) & the lack of the feel of the 'true' rivalry between the Yankees/Red Sox...

Coreen said...

The Rutgers fiasco...media created the outrage & the public falls for the manipulation every time...

All it takes is a disgruntled/fired employee, a video of the questionable conduct & there you go...works every time...

Carol said...

I'd like to know the entire truth about why Murdock, the whistle blower was fired. Is it because he wanted the right thing done? It's sad that when the good guy tries to do the right thing, ie Mike McQueary, he loses his job and probably can't get another one doing what he wants to do.

I just Googled what Mike McQueary is doing now and couldn't find a thing about it.

Carol said...

It kinda looks like you guys think that when someone sees something nasty being done in sports, keep your mouth shut?? Am I wrong?? It's not like those schools didn't have an opportunity to right the wrong first. I can't believe that Rutger's didn't have a clue what Rice was up to. And we know that Penn state did also.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol...
IMO, equating what Sandusky did to what Rice did is wholly unfair. What Sandusky did was horrific. What Rice did was acceptable and common (even in high schools) when we were kids. But yes, I understand that in today's "everyone must get a ribbon/trophy" world it is no longer acceptable behavior.

I'm moving on from this subject now...
however, if you enjoy it... have at it.

Carol said...

Did you see that video Coreen? Do you think it was doctored? If that was the case, the coach would be defending himself instead of admitting his guilt.

Carol said...

Throwing players around, throwing a basketball, pretty much full force at players, and calling them homophobic names is not something that I think should be acceptable.

Carol said...

Yes, I agree that Sandusky was far worse but that doesn't excuse Rice. If that's how many coaches behave, that's a serious shame. Sport's guys on the radio don't agree.

Yes, I understand that they scream and yell.

Carol said...

I think that I made my point also.

Coreen said...

Saw the video Carol...

It did not affect me the way it seems to have affected you...I did not find the actions so over the top that I would be wringing my hands, whining that the guy needs to be fired (like the villagers with pitchforks have been screaming since it became public)...but then I have become increasingly uncomfortable with the politically correct world that has evolved recently...

And Rice certainly does not in any way shape or form equal Pennstate/sandusky...not a chance...

Carol said...

It's college sports not the Hunger Games.

Carol said...

And I never said that what Sandusky did was equal to what Rice did. Never! It is unfair to insinuate that I did. I said that abuse of ANY kind should not be tolerated.

Carol said...

This includes several of the videos and interviews that give details to the event in case some people have no clue what went down. Everyone has a right to come up with their own conclusions.

Video shows Mike Rice's ire

Carol said...

The athletic director's explanation of his behavior is included in the above video. Everyone can judge for himself/herself how well it holds water. Sports is a significant aspect of our society whether you are a big fan or not. What goes on in sports is not something I'm willing to just blow off.

Carol said...

I spend a significant amount whining about DWTS and considering it's importance, a little whining about sport's scandals is not that crazy.

Coreen said...

Just came home, picked up the mail
and Renee FABULOUS!!!....I love it!...and the color is great for me, (if I do say so myself!)...the blues with the silver & gold threads work so well, looks like a muted plaid & everyone who knows me knows I love anything plaid...

RebelliousRenee said...

Coreen....
so glad you love it. Yeah, the hand painted ones do look plaid. It's a more expensive yarn to buy... and it comes in skeins... I have to ball it before I can work with it. But I LOVE working with it.

Thanks so much for being my customer.

Coreen said...

I think this may be the beginning of a beautiful friendship...Red Sox Nation notwithstanding...

remember I mentioned white with maybe grays or even beiges & naturally a little bling...I could see that combination....

Carol said...

Basketball is one of my fav sports. It's fast and furious, no time to get bored. You can write a book while watching baseball. You have to waste a lot of time just to catch one exciting moment. Problem is that I haven't has a team in basketball to get excited about in a very long time. Now, after being introduced to Kevin Ware and learning what a neat guy he is, I have a team to pull for in the Final Four. I'll be pulling for Louisville

RebelliousRenee said...

Coreen... didn't catch the game last night until the 8th inning. But it was great to Mariano Rivera again. He's the best reliever baseball has ever seen. It's amazing he can still pitch so well at his age. As a baseball fan, ya have to respect it.

Carol... my favorite sport is football. The one good thing about baseball is that I can work on crocheting an afghan while watching. Only have to look up when a pitch is thrown. Can't do that watching basketball or hockey. I don't watch college sports.... but hey... enjoy your new found team.

Carol said...

Renee, I was thinking that it would be the best sport to watch while working on another project. It's a 3 hour investment for a few actual minutes of excitement.

Both Boston and Atlanta lost last night after winning the first two games of their series.

Carol said...

I think I'm more of a sports fan than I realized or would admit. But it's not just the sport but all involved just like with other things I'm interested in. The sport is not more important than how it affects those involved or how it affects society in general. I'm pleased to see that how I feel is also shared by a majority of sport's fans. Just like when Muchael Vick was found to be involved in killing dogs, I was pleased to learn that football wasn't more important than our best friend, the dog.

Same with this latest sport's scandal. Polls show that the well being of the athlete is important. And using homophobic slurs on athletes is no longer acceptable. It was at Rutgers that that young man jumped off a bridge and killed himself because of humiliation he suffered from another student. It shouldn't be anymore acceptable to call the athletes the "f" word than call them the "n" word when the coach is not pleased with their performance. Thats not just political correctness, it's human decency.

Coreen said...

Carol, does your judgment stop with just sports?....what about entertainment?...comedians?...singers?...

what about derogatory words against women, which is common practice in the entertainment field...

Coreen said...

Carol, going with Louisville is an easy choicd...

they are the #1 seed in the tournament & they have Rick Pitino as their coach...love/hate relationship with Pitino, native New Yorker who coached the Knicks (mixed results)
but stunned everyone here by walking away & going to coach
college at Kentucky....

Coreen said...

Renee, not only was it a great sight to see Mo walk out to the mound...having Andy pitching was reassuring...

It is difficult watching the change in the makeup of the team...

And w/o Derek well just not the same...

Coreen said...

And just to let you know Carol, Rutgers fired the AD today...

Carol said...

Yep Coreen, you ought to know by now that it involves all of the above that you mentioned.

I know nothing about Louisville except that I was sooo impressed with Kevin Ware. Nice to know that they are favs. I might just be cheering for the winning team for a change.

Carol said...

I heard about Rutger's firing that other coach. He was almost as bad as the head coach. I haven't heard about the AD, not even on the sport's new this morning.

Carol said...

Just Googled that new development Coreen and saw that it won't be official until announced at 1 pm today. After listening to his excuses yesterday it seemed be was attempting to cover up a bad decision on his part. I would have bet money that he was a goner. Any time there's a video out re a scandal, those guys should realize that serious thought needs to go into any decision they make.

Coreen said...

What, you had to check with 'google'?!!...just because you didn't hear it first!!...it's been on NY radio/TV since it happened obviously before your
sources got it!....

Carol said...

I just wanted to read the details. I like details. I was glad to hear it and it didn't matter that you heard it first. You usually do. I was channel surfing between all the ESPN news shows at 5 am today. That news was very new when you reported it.

Carol said...

I had to leave my tv to feed all my critters. I have to travel to take care of my herd of cats.

Carol said...

Coreen, you are our NYT and our sports director here. I expect to hear that kind of news from you first sister. I'm not surprised when I do I'm surprised if I don't.

Carol said...

What do y'all think of Jimmy Fallon getting the Tonight Show? My guess that you, Coreen, don't give a damn. You're a Letterman fan. I love Jimmy F. He's a very talented guy. I never watch Jay L.

News conference at 1:15 for Rutger's AD. Waiting.

Carol said...

The firing may not stop at the AD. The pres of the University may go down also. The buck does stop there, so might the consequences.

Carol said...

The pres will need a stiff drink after this new's conference.

Coreen said...

Hillary being Hillary....and the question remains..."What's Next?"...
Hillary wows everyone at the Women in the World conference

Carol said...

Thanks for linking that article Coreen.

RebelliousRenee said...

Go... Hillary... go!

It's amazing.... she rested for 2 months and is already back out there. Loved the pictures that accompanied the article.

Carol said...

Jan, hope everything is OK with you and your absence is due to us talking sports. It really not just sports, it's life. You don't care for politics either but I see both as just another slice of life, involving human beings. No real difference if we'd be discussing the entertainment industry. Sport is certainly entertainment. I think that sports and politics have more influence on society than most everything else

Carol said...

What made sports even more entertaining for me was learning about many of the interesting characters involved in them. That started when I started listening to Travis on Yahoo sport's radio. Those sport's guys are as big of gossips as anyone discussing Hollywood. The big Hollywood gossips usually include many stories about
the sport's celebrities.

Carol said...

BtW, if I was the Rutger's AD and the got legal advice that didn't support firing the coach, I'd be suing some lawyers. They did either resign or get fired also.

Carol said...

Well, Craig gets married today. I wonder if we'll see a video of it!?

Carol said...

Craig's place is down this morning. Considering that he's most likely preoccupied, it may stay down unless he plans on streaming the wedding.

Coreen said...

Just came back in, the wind is still blowing a chilly wind, but it is sunny...and when I opened the garage doors I saw a bobcat run into the woods...first time I ever saw a bobcat here...it was bigger than my 20# cat, thick legs, no/cropped tail, beige/gray, only saw it from the back...

jan said...

I am still around Carol. I have been reading what you are saying. Just nothing to contribute.

Worked extra hours this week and came home with not much left to say on here.

Our weather is beautiful right now. Of course, we have had no rain so wild fires will follow soon.

Rented a fun movie last night - Robot and Frank. I recommend it. The movie begins with "somewhere in the near future" and robots actually clean up, garden and prepare meals.

jan said...

Coreen, would love to see you model your new scarf in a picture.

RebelliousRenee said...

Coreen.... isn't it thrilling to see something that elusive. I've been lucky enough to see a bobcat 3 times in my life. You never forget it. Good for you!

Carol... Craig has mentioned at least twice on TM that he is not streaming his wedding on the internet. Hope the site gets back up... I know many on TM want to be blogging while the event is going on. I have to be at a family event this afternoon.... otherwise, Rick and I would be in D.C. there at his wedding.

Carol said...

How far is DC from where you live Renee?

No Bobcats here, or at least that I have seen, but some pretty pesky squirrels. I put my birdseed in a heavy duty plastic container so I wouldn't have to carry it up and down the stairs. Something, and I pretty sure it's a squirrel, is trying to tear into that container. All the top sides have been chewed up. I put stuff on top to discourage it and they remove that stuff and continue to chew up my container. Good thing I don't have bears.

Carol said...

Coreen, Weather Underground forecasts 70 on Monday and 77 on Tuesday for you. Is that what you're hearing? Your weather sounds like mine down here.

Carol said...

If someone is at the wedding, a member of TM and has a Facebook page, they could be posting pics of the wedding.

Carol said...

They would also need a smartphone.

Carol said...

Anyone have a new post to put up?

Coreen said...

Forecasts for the week into the 60s
maybe spring will be here finally, not seeing any calls for 70s yet...

As for Craig's wedding, I think Pogo said he was going,(he's in West Virginia) & he is on FB, but not sure anyone suggested that, maybe he will think of it...not sure if edvb is on fb...

Carol said...

Coreen, are you FB friends with Pogo? If so and if he posts something, please share it.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol...
I'm not sure in miles the distance between here and D.C. It's about an 8-8 1/2 hour drive. The problem is that it's the most heavily trafficked drive in the US. If we had gone we would have flown. Lots of non-stop flights from our airport in Manchester, NH

And before you ask.... no, I'm not on FB. Don't want to spend that much time on this machine.

RebelliousRenee said...

I just got into TrailMix.... it's fixed!

Carol said...

Renee, just because you are on FB doesn't mean that you have to spend much time there. I have a FB page and very seldom get on it. I may think about it once a week, if that often. I signed up to check something Craig had on there several years ago. I'm glad I did because that's how Jan snagged me again.

jan said...

Coreen, you do have so much wild life around your place. I love the pictures you post of the wild animals that come around and your little indoor furry friends.

jan said...

I woke at 3:30 this morning - could not get back to sleep. Was thinking about my youngest son, Steve. He was born 47 years ago today in Argentina. He was 3 weeks late, according to the way they dated pregnancy back then. The doc finally induced labor. My back was killing me for the last 2 months of pregnancy. He weighed 9 lbs. He looked like a 2 month old baby. He was all filled out and pink. The doc put me in the hosp on 4/5 and induced my labor at 5 am. Steve was born at 10 am. It was the easiest of my 3 births.

jan said...

We were going to name Steve after Bob's brother, Dean, but when our 2 older little boys came to the hospital they began calling him Steve so we named him Roberto Esteban. For his birth certificate in Argentina he had to have a name that was on some kind of list, so we gave him a name that could be translated into English so that is how he became Robert Stephen.

jan said...

I am tired of the clutter we are living with so this morning I began work on one room- the room John uses as his office. I am determined to make our living space more liveable.

Good grief, it was a mess. It is his man-cave.

Carol said...

Happy Birthday Steve.

You are ambitious today Jan. Good for you. Not me. I'm waiting for the first game of the final four. Later there's a 3 hour Big Bang marathon.

Carol said...

Coreen, Diva posted a pic of Craig and David on Facebook. Are you her friend? If you are you can hit share and I can see it.

Carol said...

Do you know what her real name is?

jan said...

Carol, I sent you something on your e-mail. It is amazing. I would love it if you could post the link here.

Carol said...

This is the video Jan wanted to post:

It was very cute Jan. That has to be one of those God given talents.
