Nice to meet ya, officially. You can go back to the posts and edit if you want to add to your post. You might want to add some pics of your scarves?? Just thinking.
I love turtles. At my childhood home, we had a small pond in our backyard. There were painted turtles in it and they would lay their eggs in our yard. I always looked out for them and made sure they were safe.
There was also a family of muskrats in that pond. And of course... it attracted many types of birds. I learned a lot about nature watching that pond daily.
If you want to do that, you go back to New Posts. When you get to that page, hit on Carol's Southern and it brings you to a list of posts. Click on yours and you can edit it. Add to it or fix something. Then click update.
We aren't alone. Today, so far, we've had 178 page views. People come to see the new posts or some of the old ones. They come from all over the world. The Swamp is International.
Carol, good to hear you talked to Pat Dow. She was the reason I started teaching. She encouraged me to apply for that summer psych teaching job. Pat is like you. She can tell some great stories - usually on herself. I remember one she told about her dog getting hit by a car. She had just gotten out of the shower and ran outside with a towel around herself. You might ask her about it sometime. When you see her again, tell her I said "hi" Her hubby is a great guy too.
Carol... glad you like your attorney. It's important to have a good relationship. I've known my attorney for years... we both worked as election officials for a long time. I wish you much luck in your executrix duties.
Carol & Jan, FYI this coincidentally showed up on my FB tonite from weather guy Geoff Fox...concerns his Galaxy S2 smartphone 'sleep' problem...comments on FB say they have same problem... My ATT Galaxy S2 saga continues
Almost sounds like it's an ATT problem. Need to search the Net for customer comments. And also with your service provider. I found a C-Net site listing most pop androids.
http://reviews.cnet.com/best-android-phones/
Another thing I found was that some apps that you have to purchase for iPhone are free for Androids.
Need to do research and there's a lot of it out there.
You may lack just a tad of cred with your current experience with any cell phone much less a smart phone, Coreen.
We are up early this morn. I did not sleep. Had a headache and kept laying there thinking It would go away or I would go to sleep. John didn't sleep much either. John is having coffee, me tea. Ryley has been out to potty. We are packing up and getting on road by 5 am, maybe earlier.
I was awake very early also, around 2a, read up about what Dylan Ratigan was up to and then fell back to sleep.
It seems that Dylan got involved with some veterans who are working on growing things organically. I think that he was very frustrated when he quit and needed something to heal his soul. I think that project did that.
I put reminders in my phone for the appearances he will have. One is today on the Chew, at noon central time and tomorrow on Martin Bashir, on MSNBC at 3p central. I hope to watch both.
I occasionally watch the Chew anyway. I like that Bashir but don't often watch him. He seems to be a cool guy.
Renee, was anyone else at TM interested in where Dylan had gone besides us??
Carol... Harborwoman is a big fan of Ratigan's. She subscribes to his website too and she emailed me just to make sure I knew he had resurfaced.
Rick and I met at a small photo finishing plant at which we both worked in central Massachusetts. I has quit college after one year and was already working there. After finishing college, he became my new boss.
A good friend... who stood up for me at our wedding, was working across the bench from me. After Rick was introduced to each of us individually, she came over to me and said "you wouldn't believe the aura around the both of you... that's the man you will marry and you'll stay married for life". I thought she was totally nuts at the time. I was 20 and looking forward to traveling.
Two weeks later, the company had it's Xmas party at a local restaurant. We couldn't stop talking to each other. The rest... as they say... is history.
I did go back to college after we were married... I have a BA in English from a small local college. In our first few yrs of marriage, Rick went on to get his Masters in Library Science at Simmons in Boston. He was a librarian our first ten yrs of marriage.
I've never used my degree... well... at least not to make money. I use it all the time for my own pleasure.
Renee, whether or not you ever use your degree, and I would say that even if you never had a formal job using that degree, you got a lot out of it. College is an experience that gives much more than a degree. Hey, it gave me Jan! You can't get better than that.
I just finished rushing through Walmart to get home in time to see Dylan on the Chew. I left here at 11a, did my shopping, turning corners on 2 wheels. I was gasping for breath. I did my shopping, aerobic, and got home at about 10 til noon. It's 12:30, watching the Chew, and still no Dylan. Well, at least I got an hour's worth of aerobics in.
It was a good trip home. Although it is 75 outside, the inside of the house was 64. Interesting. I had to turn on the heat for a short time just to take off the chill.
Yesterday, after meeting with our atty, I took John and Ryley back to the hotel for a nap and I went off by myself. I drove around Claremore (went to HS there) and took some pictures. There were 2 places I lived after marrying and took pics. One was an apt and one a duplex - both still there. I also took some pics of other places that have some meaning for me. I drove out to the cemetery to find my brother's grave and could not find it. I will have to find out from his children where it is. I did find the little church where his and my mother's funeral services were. It was not one I had ever attended. It was a block from the cemetery.
John and I ate at a little cafe on the main street of Claremore where I had meals with my parents when I was a teen. It is a tiny cafe with 8 booths. Cannot believe it is still there. I took a pic of it too.
Jan, I can't see auras. Those auras only showed up around my sis, Jeremy and myself, on the pics, before mom's body was removed from her house. Never seen anything like it before or after.
It seems that your mom had some intuitive/psychic abilities but she was open to those. It's been said that we are all capable but have to believe and be open to these experiences. Many things come to us when we are open to them. When I look for synchronicity, I see it often.
Carol, how true, going to McNeese introduced me to you. Going onto the McNeese site and finding you on FB was synchronicity for me. I did not think I would ever see or hear from you again. Funny how we never know what experiences are going to lead us to other experiences that have so much importance in the rest of our lives.
Jan, the only reason I first got on Facebook was to find something Craig put on there years ago. I never really desired to be on that place. I really don't participate now.
I think that I had to sign up just to see what I wanted to see and somehow you snagged me. Synchronicity. We were meant to reconnect and I was meant to connect with Craig and with the rest of yous guys. It was all part of the divine plan. Meeting you guys was NO ACCIDENT! So if any of you regret it....it was meant to be, nothing you can do about it. You can run away...but I think you'll regret it. LOL Fighting destiny, is never a good thing.
Some people are only meant to be in your life for a short time. They did need to be there for that time. If you keep getting something undesirable in your life, then there's something that you are failing to learn from that experience. Better try to figure it out because if you do, you may not have to repeat that class.
It's my theory that if your life has always been peaches and cream for ya, then you have done everything right....or more likely, you are very low on the evolutionary ladder. Classes are always easier in the lower grades.
I've been reading my Jung, Miracles book. That darn cataract eye is really giving me problems with reading a book. I don't notice it as much on the computer because reading there is so intermittent.
It is a very interesting book, deep, but interesting. I am making progress.
Renee, remember that Dylan will be on Martin Brashir today. I do have it set on my phone to alarm me.
My smart phone does soooo much more than just being a phone. That has become it's least useful function these days. It's my grocery list, my calendar, my alarm clock, a timer, the Internet, and anything else you want it to do...except wipe my ass. I guess I could use it to do that but then it wouldn't be much good for anything else.
When I was reading my Jung book EARLY this morning, a name of an author that I used to enjoy reading popped into my head. It was David Viscott. He wrote that book, The Making of a Psychiatrist. I think that book was first published in 1972. I seem to remember that you also read it. I think he loved writing more than doctoring. I've read several of his books, self help, over the years.
I looked him up on Wiki. He died in 1996 of heart failure complicated by a diabetic condition. Sad, he was only 58. At least he got the opportunity to do what he loved to do...write. I can't find the info but I bet he must have had Type I DM.
Carol.... Ha! You don't scare me, sister. I'll fight you with my maple syrup over your gumbo any day... :)
I use my head as my alarm clock... it rarely fails me.
I used to love to watch the very end of Martin Bashir's show... when he handed the time slot over to Dylan. The teasing Dylan did to Martin... and Martin always laughed so hard he'd be crying... now that was must see tv.
Renee, my brain doesn't have the capacity to store/remember all the things I need to watch, do or pay so it goes on my calendar and reminds me. I love that feature. My shopping list is on my phone and I just check what I need. If I'm out and about and want to know if there's a weather problem because things are looking worrisome, I pull up the radar. There's so many things I use my phone for.
I pull up ads from other stores so I can price match at Walmart. I've even looked up movie reviews while standing at the Redbox. I've looked up consumer info when trying to decide what brand of something I should buy. One day I was looking up the most tasty brand of extra virgin olive oil.
Carol, Theresa Caputo, LIM is coming to New Haven May 5...I managed to get tickets today through secondary re-sell market since when the tickets went on sale at the venue, it was sold out immediately...
So now we will get 2 shots at a psychic reading!!...Theresa in May, John Edward in August....
Carol... saw Dylan Ratigan on Martin Bashir.... he seemed to be much more of his type A personality of old on that show as compared to yesterday's The Chew.
He was back in his old studio on MSNBC.... I bet if felt like he never left.
Coreen... I told Craig that you lived in Connecticut.... that's why he's sending you an email inviting you to the Gloucester Mass. party. He asked in an email if I knew anyone on TM who lived in the New England area.
It would be neat if you could make it. It's being held in David's sister's home.... which looks like it came out of Better Homes and Gardens... it's beautiful! High on a hill with a commanding view of Gloucester harbor.
Thanks for the thought Renee, it sounds like a fantastic place for a celebration...
Not sure about the 6+ hour round trip drive, haven't been to MA in a very long time...will give it some consideration since it would be fun to meet 'real' people that I've come to think I know already!...
Just bought a smart phone. We each bought the Samsung Galaxy Note II.
I, at least, know how to make calls and text. Will learn how to do the rest. John is playing with his. I will probably go back for more instructions. I am tired right now. Too much information today.
Great Jan. I bet John could also teach you. I'm on my second smart phone and I couldn't live without it. It may take a while for you to get used to it. Don't forget to have your cheaters. I do think that the Galaxy screen is bigger. That's one of the reasons I wanted one of those. If I do replace mine, I will probably go with one of those or something similar.
I also like my phone because I can take the Swamp with me. I often post comments while waiting in the grocery line. I hate waiting with nothing to do.
Jan, do you remember reading that book I mentioned earlier? The one by David Viscott. Do you have your Memories book around. I'm still working on the first 200 pages I need to read before I do the next lecture.
Coreen, that's great about going to see the two psychics. I guess you are in the same "crazy" category as me. LOL. I'm jealous that I can't do something like that.
I'd also like to go to that thing for Craig, if it was closer.
I also saw Dylan again today. They always have him at the end of the shows. He looks good.
Coreen.... Rick and I are staying in Gloucester for several nights... gonna make it a mini vacation. We are staying in a place called Cape Ann's Marina and Resort. OldSeaHag is staying there also. If you do want to stay, you have to make reservations quickly. There's some big fisherman's Festival happening that same weekend and rooms can be hard to get.
Just watched 20/20 about that Steubenville, Ohio rape case. Those kids were awful but the people who really need to be punished is all their parents and any other adults who knew anything about what was going on. Social services should be supervising all those parents until they no longer have minor children at home. That town is small, around 18,000. You know that many in that town were aware of what these kids were up to or they should have been.
I just woke up. I think I got a little more sleep last night. I guess my body is adjusting to chair sleeping.
I'm still shuttering to think about those teenagers in Ohio. We're those parents ever teenagers?? Really? I think we all were a tad devious when we were teenagers.
Why would you trust your own kids? Just because you raised them right? Is that a good enough reason? I'd have to have proof that they were goody two shoes before I let up. I'd be monitoring all that social media stuff. Those kids are too dumb not to have everything they're doing all over the Net. Ya just need to know their tweeter/Facebook handle. Those parents must have all been smoking dope to have missed an event like the one that caused all that trouble.
Which one of you ladies is going to tell me that you were a perfect teenager? Never out running around, doing a few things that your parents would not be proud of?? Go ahead and try to tell mama Carol that. Dare ya.
Little Carol was devious. Nothing too serious but it had potential. I'm sure some could be considered at least qualifying as a misdemeanor. At least.
My daddy trusted us, mom never did. Mom was also very over protective. Mom was right. If it wasn't for my dad, we'd have been tied to our beds in our rooms.
For a very short period of time, my dad owner half an interest in a Chrysler-Plymouth dealership. It was his dream. He had cancer by then and got very sick, very fast and lost it all but not before we had a couple of years of demonstrators to run the roads in. They didn't have tweeter and such back then but you could have followed us by the tread marks we left on the road.
That Ohio town only had a little over 18 thou residents. You know they could have formed a neighborhood teenager watch group and rotated who was on duty each night. Didn't any of them give a damn??? I'd have been ashamed to get on TV and show my dumb negligent face.
I also hope that those boys aren't considered sex offenders for the rest of their lives. Because if they are..then just go ahead and shot them, their done. From what I've heard, it was not intercourse, per se that was involved. Not sure if I'm correct about that. I think it was finger penetration and I don't think that most teenagers consider that sex. If you know something different, let me know. It was more how they treated the girl that was horrific.
I've had inmates who were kids, that did kid stuff sexually and then were labeled sex offenders for the rest of their lives. They were done for. It is definitely not fair. It's a tragedy.
I think that I know Coreen and Jan well enough to know that they weren't goody two shoes growing up, I think, but I don't know you well enough Renee so spill your guts.
What can I say... I was a teenager in the turbulent late 60s/early 70s. I didn't do too much while in high school. I loved learning and played sports. But once I graduated... I let loose. I embraced hippiedom. Smoked lots of dope... did lots of LSD... and took free love to heart. It's a miracle I didn't at least fry my brain.
As for those boys... being a teenager and booze never mix. They are learning that lesson the hard way... and yeah, it probably will ruin their lives.
I wasn't quite as devious as one would expect. I had a well developed conscious by then and always felt guilty. People always thought that I was the ring leader even though it's probably me that kept everyone else outta jail. I always had a tendency to think way ahead and that's a good thing. I couldn't drink without vomiting and vomiting does slow one down.
I had a real devious friend who the big people thought wasn't. She bordered on being a sociopath. I heard she is real "religious" now. Those are the ones who we need to watch...those who throw themselves into religion. I found that there is a direct relationship between the number of sins committed to degrees of religiosity later in life. Most of those fanatical religious protesters, probably murdered a few people in their past. No shit!
As far as dope smoking, it didn't go well with hyperthyroidism. It was bad enough that someone could say boo to me and get my heart rate up to over 300 bpm. I didn't know that I was hyperthyroid until many years later. A toke on a joint could close to double that heart rate. One toke, once, landed me in ICU over night. I never confessed since I had worked there previously. I did hang around many others who loved the stuff. They smoked and I just got the munchies. Being hyperthyroid, I could handle having those without it showing.
Jan, learning to operate that new smartphone is like learning a new language and learning a new language is one way us old folks can keep the brain exercising. I heard that learning a new language or learning to play a musical instrument can both help the older brain. I do have a harmonica I could play with. I wonder if there's a website to learn to play that.
Jan, you already have regular cell phone and texting down. I wouldn't recommend trying any sexting. Wouldn't want to ruin your life.
Growing up...what did we do...think 'American Grafitti' & that pretty much sums it up...may have been cute & collegiate but hung out with the 'Wise Guys'...(flower child/hippie...no way)...
Funny how the kids of the 60s from coast to coast were pretty much doing the same thing...
Still think the music influenced a lot...& my choice was always Motown, r&b what is called doo wap & oldies now but just rock & roll then!....
the 11 oclock news last night said it was seen from NY all the way to Florida...around 8 pm...disappointed that I missed it... from the videos not sure I would have thought it was a meteor...
So Coreen, you were hanging out with the guys who were killing people, "wise guys". I guess that got ya out of having to be religious now, on a technicality. I prefer the hippies, love children.
Not necessarily did they 'kill' people at that time in their lives, but maybe break a head or something, possible but I can not confirm that, since I did not witness any such behavior, but not too many people would bother any of us...they knew better...
Coreen, Just watching about the meteor on TV this morning. I guess folks in our part of the country did not see it.
Carol, Yes, I was no angel but we were greatly overprotected. I lived in the country without a telephone until I was 16. We moved to "town" of about 15,000 then. I was a pretty tame teenager. I had one taste of alcohol at about 17 and then became engaged to a man 10 years older than me. Married at 18 right out of HS. So I did not have time to do anything very raunchy.
Not sure what you consider religious, I told you, I went to mass regularly until they changed the latin mass to be more like protestants...now I go when some function requires it...doesn't mean I believe more or less in the basics that I did growing up...
My dad and mom had this rule (for me) about no dating until 16. They relaxed that with my sister and let her date when I did. She was 14. She was, as they said in those days, wild as a march hare. She was the one who had all the fun, at that time.
I did try MJ when I was you Carol and then again in Austin when in Grad school. Austin was a great place to live when going through all that. I didn't find MJ did anything for me. I was offered cocaine once, but turned it down. I guess by that age, I did not want to chance anything like that. Never could drink much as my stomach rebelled. My friends and I loved the music scene in Austin. There were lots of places with live music and 6th street had about anything going on you could ask for. There was also a secluded nude beach area called Hippie Hollow. Some friends and I had to check that out too.
The good thing about doing the adolescent thing in my 40's was that I was a little wiser and did not take unnecessary chances. I was doing this in the 1980's when everyone was also afraid of Aids, so safe sex was a big thing too.
Thought I told you that just before I was going to take the bar exam that one of the guys that we grew up with that dated/lived with one of my BFF (still is, just talked with her earlier)...was killed execution style, found with a bullet in his head in a parked car in a hotel parking lot...muder never solved...allegedly he was an 'enforcer' for the mob...well after his killing the fbi searched my friend's home, was sitting outside taking pics of everyone going in/out...& I was a student intern in the prosecutor's office & the prosecutor was writing a recommendation for me to be sumitted to the bar exam committee...well I was a nervous wreck to think that he would see me in the fbi pics, so I go in to tell him & he laughs & says don't even give it a thought...he knew the guy who was killed since he had numereous court appearances all his life (though never a conviction)... & the prosecutor wrote me a great recommendation!...
Don't let it sound like I was the one pushing that MJ stuff Jan. We were out at the white water river and my grad school prof and her big wig, Texas Medical Center, Cardiologist boyfriend brought a bag of that to the campground.
You know what I'm talking about when I say being "religious". I mean those crazy fanatics, not people who go to church regularly or once in a while. I also have a strong faith. God and I are best buds. Jesus is just alright with me. Well, more than alright. So is Mary, et al.
Carol, did not mean to say you were "pushing" the MJ stuff. I do remember that. It was your teacher and her BF that brought it to the campground. I was afraid of getting busted out there and losing my nurs lic. I had never been close to MJ before and I was pretty naive about a lot of stuff.
I was worried about what it would do to my heart but I took my beta blocker, slowed my heart rate and I had my cardiologist out there. I saw him as a patient. What more could I do to be cautious?
Renee, thanks for sharing your experience as a teen and young adult. When all that was going on in the '60's, I was a very young mother and seldom even watched the news. So I knew very little of the entire youth revolution that was going on in this country. Years later, when I read more about all of this, I thought I would have liked to have experienced some of that, but we are all a product of our own environments and choices. Would love to get together one of these days and all have talk about our growing up experiences. That would be fun.
Carol, At that time I don't think you and I even knew each other that well. We knew what the other was doing, but I don't think we really talked much about our feelings about stuff. I know I did not. We each had ideas about the other that I don't think were very accurate.
I was still rebellious in college. I organized and led the boycott of our capping ceremony. I think that may have just included Katie and me. I didn't want that silly thing on my head.
I have a problem with ants invading my hummer feeders. I just surrounded the rail on both sides of where my feeder hangs with vasoline. I bought that stuff when I had that colonoscopy but didn't use it. Maybe it will work for this. We'll see.
And Jan you didn't appear too worried at the camp ground. We were laughing our asses off. One is your sons was with us, with a couple of his friends. We sent them to the showers to wash dishes. LOL. We tried to act cool when they returned and started laughing harder. Shame on us.
I don't remember your friends coming when Bill was there. I do remember you got really pissed because you and I were doing everything and Bill and his friends were just sitting around.
That was a fun time. I will have to ask Bill if he remembers it? Will have to ask him when his wife is not there. I don't think she likes for him to talk about old girlfriends.
That is the nice thing about being older and having a partner who does not care what you did before you married.
I bought some steel cut oats and dried blueberries at Costco yesterday. Fixed them for b'fast. Very good. But they bubbled over in the microwave. My regular oatmeal does not do that. Steel cut oats is what all the health xperts recommend. Wonder if they are any different from regular.
OK, looked it up on google. Steel cut are not that much different in nutrition and fiber than the old fashioned or quick cook oats. So there is my answer. The nice thing about the steel cut is that they are finer and might be better used in baking. I think I will add to my banana bread recipe. Probably would be good in pancakes and other stuff too.
It was one of the boys. I don't remember which one. And there was a friend with him. We sent them to wash dishes to get rid of them. I think the kids were pissed off, not me I do remember being very nervous about them knowing what we did. I always felt guilty. You can remember it your way. I was totally surprised that the doc brought that stuff. It wasn't planned. I also remember the kids wondering why we were chuckling when they got back.
And my prof's boyfriend never came when I was still in grad school. She and another prof came camping with me. I taught them how to camp and canoe. Neither had ever been. They were in the canoe with me at the stern. I never dumped a canoe. When they brought their boyfriends/husbands later, they dumped every time.
I only took Bill. Terry was in OK. He went to OK every summer. Bob took Steve with him to Montana in May or June. I stayed to finish teaching that summer then Bill and I drove to OK in August, picked up Terry and the 3 of us drove to Mt.
After looking at what we did that our parents didn't know about, I owe those parents in Ohio an apology. Sorry. As overprotective as my mom was, she didn't have a clue.
when our children were living at home or we were paying their bills, it was understood in our house that we knew what they were doing. That was the way it was.
I woke up at 3 bloated with a belly ache from hell. I slugged down some antacid. My gut was so bloated that breathing was difficult. I finally fell asleep and didn't wake up until about 30 minutes ago. I feel a little better but I think I'm going to fast today. I've been hitting a lot of roughage, nuts, dried fruit, salad, spinach. I may have overdone a good thing.
Coreen... wow... that's some stories about broken heads, the fbi, and a dead boyfriend. Glad you survived it all.
Jan... yeah, I believe we are all products of when and where we were born... along with tendencies we were born with. The rest we just make up as we go along :)
Carol.... sorry about the bloat... that can happen to me if I go too heavily on dairy products for supper.
We went last night to see the Frost Heaves show with Rick's brother and his girlfriend. The place was packed. Every seat in the house was occupied and they had to pull out some folding chairs put up in the aisles to accommodate everyone. Methinks everyone has a touch of cabin fever with all this snow. Having a good laugh for cheap (tickets were only $15) was good for what ails us.
Then I went to take the Magster out and there was this small boat floating by with no driver. Every morning I see someone running by in somewhat of a similar boat. I was scared that someone fell out. I called 911 and got in touch with the Sheriff's dept Marine division. They came out and about that time a neighbor several camps down was headed out to go look for his missing boat. It would have taken a while since they were headed the wrong way. I guess he didn't tie up his boat very well. Men!
Renee, your Frost Heaves reminds me of this play down by these two guys called Greater Tuna. All the roles in the play are done by these two guys. I saw the play in a little New Orleans theater years ago. They did a couple of other plays also. Here's a little sample:
Y'all are still having to battle chances of snow up your way. It's going to get into the 30s here tonight. Yuk. It was a pretty day today, pretty windy but nice sunshine.
I recorded a Dr. Oz program. He had this cardiologist on who shared his "diet" promising one can lose 10 lbs in one week. The diet is all the foods you eat carol. Now I know why you stayed so thin. Its the detox diet. Foods are green leafy and cruciferous vegs, berries (sev varieties), coconut milk and oil, chic & fresh water fish. I think there are others but will have to look on his site.
These foods are supposed to get rid of the bacteria in our gut that are bad for us and replace with good bacteria that keep the gut healthy.
The bad foods are: gluten, soy, peanuts, sodas, all processed foods, sugar, Some others I cannot remember.
Jan, the reason I stayed so thin for so long was all hyperthyroidism, not diet. I do eat some healthy stuff but lots of not so healthy stuff and way too much of all of it.
Actually, I think he was likely referring to himself. He probably doesn't care for advice except when he asks for it and then it should be only advice that works well with what he would like to do anyway. Am I close?
I think my worker guys MIGHT be here today to start on the outside. They are not real fast with their work but it's good work. I do have a little list of what they need to fix from my last work. I hope they have more people hired for this job. Last one was only pops and he doesn't do much anymore and one son, at the end.
Carol... those tuna guys are a hoot! Same style of humor as Frost Heaves.... very regional. Thanks for posting those vids.
Food sticks to me too. And of course my height doesn't help.... I'm an example of Randy Newman's "short people". In your pictures, you look tall, Carol.
I'm still working on reading Jung's Memories book. It's heavy, not the same way that the Red Book is heavy, literally. It's deep. I have kinda skipped around, curious about what another chapter has to say. I've kinda jumped now to some of his thoughts on life after death. It would be difficult to take anything in his experiences serious without feeling there's got to be something to this life after death stuff.
Coreen, if you don't buy into any of it, your wasting your time and money on John Edwards and the LIM.
Jan, my belly problem got better because I didn't eat much but over night the other day I got real croupy. Really wet sounding cough which is not good with my not so old rib injury.
I guess my guys won't be starting today since I just texted the son and he's in Dallas at his sister's house. He's one of the main worker bee so I doubt anything will start today.
In my tree climbing days, I would have tried it. It turned out pretty good and I wonder how many strokes it saved him by doing that. He ended up not finishing the tournament. He had an injury that he didn't want to push.
There are so many journalists, with no significant credentials, who think they have the right to criticize the work of experts. This guy Ron Rosenbaum, writing for Slate, was making fun of Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross because of some of the ideas she developed on the afterlife, later in her life.
I see the same thing happening with journalist all the time. They cover stories about something and then think that they are experts. Bullshit! Often they can't eve accurately relate what happened somewhere. I don't trust most of their reporting.
Carol, loved the tree shot. John did too. Thanks for posting. Although I don't have a big interest in golf, it was fun to watch. I did play golf years ago while living in Argentina. That was my 3 years of leisure. No leisure before or since. I did enjoy playing though was never very good at it. I took lessons there.
Now I have something I can talk to oldest son, Bill, about. He is a golfer.
I was hoping to be able to play golf when I retired but everything I do that requires the least physical activity, breaks something. I did pull a rib muscle once when I had extremely bad form with one of my long range shots.
I took lessons when I turned 50 because a friend wanted me to do it with her. I was pretty good. I could have done something there if I would have started early in life.
Carol, take care of that wet cough. Do you still have it?
I have been having some nasal bleeding - not bad, just my mucus membranes are irritated in nose and throat. It is so dry here. I probably don't drink enough water. I took some Vit C this morning. I take one a day vits. but they don't have much Vit C. I cannot swallow the big pills so need to find me some chewables.
Carol, you already know that I am not a true believer as to psychics, I just don't know one way or another...have no first hand experience with any of the things you beleive, whether the auras, the orbs, contact, whatever...
if someone I am with should be 'read' by the psychic, I would consider that great...
One of my friends absolutely believes, she says her son who died from meningitis when he was a teen, communicates with her...she has been to many psychics...told her whenever one of them was nearby, we would go, so we are going...
It's a stretch for you to think that going to see the LIM or John Edward requires that I should believe it or its a waste of time/money...It's entertainment... If one of us (4) gets 'picked', even better!...
I did not care that much for golf. I played because Bob and friends played. I would rather walk. I actually like walking by myself. For me it is a form of meditation, calms my soul.
I want to get back to quilting. I miss it. Now that taxes are done, I need to clean up lots of paper around the house. I want to get rid of all stuff laying around that keeps me from doing the things I like to do. That is my goal for the year.
Back to bitching, kvetching, about journalists. I watch a lot of HLN, not as much as I used to, and have to listen to Jane Vellez Mitchel and Nancy Grace. I can handle more of Jane than Nancy. They are always asking Jane for her legal opinion about something. She is no expert there. I don't think she even finished college much less has a legal degree. Now Nancy does but she must just get a short briefing on what's going on before she's giving her legal opinion. She never can get what happened right.
Unless you watch something unfold on TV, don't trust any of them to give an accurate description of it. If you want to know what happened politically, watch C-SPAN.
Coreen, I think there are so many things we don't know about or truly understand. For me, it is entertainment also. If I had a friend who believed in them, I would go with them too, just to learn more about it. I do believe there are some true psychics.
My mother did have several experiences in her lifetime that she believed were not of this world. I believed her too.
Every time you mention your Jungian fascination( as well as other psych references) I laugh & think of Fraiser & the brothers rivalry, Niles being a jungian & Fraiser freudian....the show is still on in repeats on several cable channels...
Jan, I'm hitting all the vitamins and health foods that have them in it. I don't take large doses of C anymore. Research doesn't recommend that anymore, not as a supplement. I've read research that said that Vit C, taken every day, doesn't decrease the frequency of colds but if taken when you have one, it will decrease the duration.
Jane and Nancy Grace both annoy me so I don't watch either one of them. I like some of the news programs, but not that much. I watch TV for entertainment and don't find news entertaining.
I read my news online. That way I only read what I want to read.
I will have to watch some of the Frasier shows. I used to watch them and did not realize that one was Freudian and the other Jungian. Niles was always my favorite.
Jung was into a lot that would be considered parapsychology. He was quite psychic. I like the guy and think that we have a lot in common. I might have been one of his patients in a previous life. Don't laugh, you can't prove otherwise.
BTW, I did see that movie about Jung and Freud that you mentioned recently that your sis watched. I rented it from Redbox. It was mostly about his work as a psychiatrist and the patients he slept with. It was not a real good story about who he really was as a writer and thinker about dreams and stuff. I was disappointed in the movie.
Golf, was my favorite way to spend a day for a lot of years...wasn't very good, but did hit the ball straight, in the air most of the time, not many wormburners...& managed to look like I knew what I was doing...
Think I told you, I did have a hole in one the weekend after I took the bar exam (way back in 1980on the 12th hole of the black at the local public course) & my friends all said that was the good luck that I passed & I did...(when I took the bar exam the pass rate wasn't high, so passing the first time taking it was a big deal)....
Everyone on the course knew I had a hole in one by the time we walked up the 14th hole!...& yes I bought everyone drinks (they only served beer, soda) in the clubhouse when we got in...
I do find these trials entertaining but will only watch the trials and not the idiots opinions after. If they even get too stressful, I turn the channel and this last one is very stressful. It is history making in that there are many precedence that are being set.
I have many different interests and add to them daily. I love that now I can pursue learning about many different things now.
Thinking about that movie, I bet a lot of therapists get involved sexually with patients. We will never know for sure how many. I knew a psychologist (PhD) in Austin who slept with his patients. Not me! He led some groups on "how to survive divorce." I knew 2 of the women he slept with. The Episcopal church there gave him space to hold the groups. He was divorced himself. He was very popular in Austin. I think every divorced woman knew him. He made lots of money off those groups.
Jan, shrinks aren't the only ones...divorce lawyers too (guys for the most part)...my opinion, is that the women they are representing are most vulnerable & the sleazeballs take advantage of that...I never liked family law...there is no good answer how to split one family in two & still maintain the life the family had before...& 99% of the time the woman in a divorce is the loser, since women usually can not make up the financial loss (unless she is independently wealthy)...
I'm not sure lawyers have any ethical standards when it comes to relationships with their clients. That would probably qualify as an oxymoron. Place a smiley face here??

OMG... I did it!
I made a blog post. Yup... that's Rick and I from last year at his mother's birthday party.
Proud of ya Renee! You are now officially a swamp turtle.
I'll save the scarves for another post. I see I can click on the pencil and it brings up the post to edit.... but how do I put up a headline?
"I love turtles"
Synchronicity
The headline goes in the long rectangle above the box you wrote in.
Go add a headline that you're a new swamp turtle.
Thanks Carol...
I did it. This is waaaay cool.
Swimming on your own now! Watch out for gators!
We aren't alone. Today, so far, we've had 178 page views. People come to see the new posts or some of the old ones. They come from all over the world. The Swamp is International.
Excellent Renee...we are all proud of you...And you timed it perfectly to begin a new post...
Coreen's Easter posts from the past continue to be popular. Around Easter, the page views can go up really high.
Hi Coreen.
I'm going to go watch a Celtic's game now.
I'll come back at half time.
Jan's going to be surprised.
Sorry about the mis-wording - you are so right Carol, it is swamp turtles. I forgot. My bad.
Renee, great picture of you and Rick. You are a beautiful couple.
Jan, did you read the end of the last post where I was talking to Pat Dow about you.
Carol, I mistakenly typed that comment on the previous post.
Her husband is my attorney
Carol... glad you like your attorney. It's important to have a good relationship. I've known my attorney for years... we both worked as election officials for a long time. I wish you much luck in your executrix duties.
Hi Jan...
thanks for the compliment. Bet you can't wait to get home tomorrow.
I'm getting banged tonight. Big Banged. Another Big Bang marathon.
BTW, her dog was ok.
Renee, we are so eager to get home.
Renee, you and Rick look so sweet together. How did y'all meet?
You leave in the morning Jan?
We do leave in the morning Carol. Oh great. Ryley hears dogs barking on TV and she is barking.
LOL. Riley.
Did you see my smart phone questions on last post Jan?
I did see your smart phone questions/comments.
John was looking at samsung before we left NM. He liked it.
Thanks for the info. We will look at this when we go shopping. John can hardly wait. Me, I can wait.
Carol & Jan, FYI this coincidentally showed up on my FB tonite from weather guy
Geoff Fox...concerns his Galaxy S2
smartphone 'sleep' problem...comments on FB say they
have same problem...
Co, get yourself an iPhone and start playing with it. You can text me.
Texting does have some advantages. If you just want to drop a line or two and want it private so you can't put it on the blog. Jan and I use it.
Have a nice trip home Jan. There's no place like home, there's no place like home.
If Jan and John got an early start this morning, they may be home by 2p, giving them dog and people peeing time.
I just heard that Dylan's garden project will be up next.
Dylan looks relaxed. No more shouting.
Yeah... Dylan looked great... tanned, relaxed... and most importantly... happy.
I still hope he does another tv show someday... but of course... that's up to him. Whatever he does, I wish him well.
Renee, he did finally put his money where is mouth was. He practiced what he preached.
We are home. We neither one were sleeping well last night. Both of us were awake at 4:30 am, dressed, packed the car and were on the road at 5 am.
Good to be home! I don't know who is happier, John, Ryley or me.
You hit it on the dot Carol. We were pulling onto our street at 2 pm - our time. We got an hour back when we got into NM
Renee, love your meeting story about you and Rick. Your friend who said you would marry each other - and for life must have been psychic.
Renee, my mother could see aura's around people. She could see, hear and feel things that others could not.
Carol can do that too.
Glad you're home.
My mother could see aura's around people. Do not know what that means.
Now, I hope that didn't frighten you too much.
Carol, in your last comment, you just sold me on iphony.
Awwww!
Mango And Milkshake Are The Most Adorable Best Friends
Jan, you can do that on any smartphone.
Carol....
I saw those two buddies on huffpo this morning... they are the cutest.... and I LOVE their names.
Jan... yeah... Dorothy knew what the hell she was talkin' about when she said "there's no place like home".
Renee, I check with Huff Post to kinda keep up with the news. I don't watch much anymore.
Carol, Theresa Caputo, LIM is coming to New Haven May 5...I managed to get tickets today through secondary re-sell market
since when the tickets went on sale
at the venue, it was sold out immediately...
So now we will get 2 shots at a psychic reading!!...Theresa in May,
John Edward in August....
Carol...
saw Dylan Ratigan on Martin Bashir.... he seemed to be much more of his type A personality of old on that show as compared to yesterday's The Chew.
There's some big fisherman's Festival happening that same weekend and rooms can be hard to get.
http://www.capeannmarina.com
I know that I didn't have any kids but I was one and haven't forgotten that. My critters get better attention and care than some show their kids.
Those teenage years are definitely years where the bad wolf is in charge and it's being fed, a lot.
I'm patiently waiting for your stories girls.
The less said...they more assumed. OK.
Remember...the statue of limitations has passed. You can check with Coreen about that.
Carol... moi? ... I was a teenage angel.... NOT!
No shit!
Please forgive my misspelling. I see them but don't want to go to the trouble to fix them. My ego doesn't care. You can fix them in your head.
This Google browser does help with spelling but if you use the wrong word, but spell it right, they won't mess with it.
Growing up...what did we do...think
'American Grafitti' & that pretty much sums it up...may have been
cute & collegiate but hung out with the 'Wise Guys'...(flower child/hippie...no way)...
Funny how the kids of the 60s from coast to coast were pretty much doing the same thing...
Still think the music influenced a lot...& my choice was always Motown, r&b what is called doo wap & oldies now but just rock & roll then!....
Any chance anyone saw the meteor last night?...
the 11 oclock news last night said
it was seen from NY all the way to Florida...around 8 pm...disappointed that I missed it... from the videos not sure I would have thought it was a meteor...
So Coreen, you were hanging out with the guys who were killing people, "wise guys". I guess that got ya out of having to be religious now, on a technicality. I prefer the hippies, love children.
Not necessarily did they 'kill' people at that time in their lives, but maybe break a head or something, possible but I can not confirm that, since I did not witness any such behavior, but
not too many people would bother any of us...they knew better...
Coreen, Just watching about the meteor on TV this morning. I guess folks in our part of the country did not see it.
Carol,
Yes, I was no angel but we were greatly overprotected.
I did my adolescent rebellious stuff later.
Not sure what you consider religious, I told you, I went to mass regularly until they changed the latin mass to be more like protestants...now I go when some function requires it...doesn't mean
I believe more or less in the basics that I did growing up...
My mother was super religious when I was growing up so that played into my teen years too.
I seldom go to church now, but do have a strong faith.
Thought I told you that just before I was going to take the bar exam that one of the guys that we grew up with that dated/lived with one of my BFF (still is, just talked with her earlier)...was killed execution style, found with a bullet in his head in a parked car in a hotel parking lot...muder never solved...allegedly he was an 'enforcer' for the mob...well
after his killing the fbi searched my friend's home, was sitting outside taking pics of everyone going in/out...& I was a student intern in the prosecutor's office
& the prosecutor was writing a recommendation for me to be sumitted to the bar exam committee...well I was a nervous
wreck to think that he would see me in the fbi pics, so I go in to tell him & he laughs & says
don't even give it a thought...he knew the guy who was killed since he had numereous court appearances all his life (though never a conviction)...
Doobie Brothers Jesus Is Just Alright
Carol, did not mean to say you were "pushing" the MJ stuff. I do remember that. It was your teacher and her BF that brought it to the campground. I was afraid of getting busted out there and losing my nurs lic. I had never been close to MJ before and I was pretty naive about a lot of stuff.
Coreen, Wow! that was quite an experience.
I would have assumed you were a goody two shoes Jan but you told me that you weren't.
I was still rebellious in college. I organized and led the boycott of our capping ceremony. I think that may have just included Katie and me. I didn't want that silly thing on my head.
Mom was none too pleased with me since she wanted to attend and be proud of her nursing student daughter. Sorry mom.
Who would have suspected a Cardiologist??? I was surprised.
Carol, When your teacher and her BF came to camp - that was when we were in grad school in H. My Bill was not with us then.
Bill and his friends were with us just before I left LC and was going to Montana. I don't remember your teacher coming then.
Memories- oh how they define and deny us!
We are playing with our phones. I now can call and text message. I will probably need help with e-mails on the hone and FB.
I think the kids were pissed off, not me
I do remember being very nervous about them knowing what we did.
I didn't corrupt you, the Cardiologist corrupted both of us.
The pollen has finally gotten to me.
They said it would be a bad season, worse than last year and last year was bad.
Carol, LOL No one corrupted me. Just trying things out.
I do not remember the cardiologist at all. I do remember getting to the campsite and it was after dark and hard to set up everything in the dark.
I only took Bill. Terry was in OK. He went to OK every summer. Bob took Steve with him to Montana in May or June. I stayed to finish teaching that summer then Bill and I drove to OK in August, picked up Terry and the 3 of us drove to Mt.
I never notice pollen. I have allergies all the time. Don't notice one season any different from the rest.
We will have so much yellow pollen that you can draw your name and pics on anything and the river will have a yellow sludge on it.
After looking at what we did that our parents didn't know about, I owe those parents in Ohio an apology. Sorry. As overprotective as my mom was, she didn't have a clue.
Now a days it is easier for parents to get a clue what their kids are up with via Facebook and Twitter.
If you guys had teenagers right now, would you monitor your kids Facebook and Twitter accounts? I'm pretty sure I would.
I wouldn't feel like it was an invasion of privacy since those sites are very public. If everyone else in the world can see it, I'd be looking also.
when our children were living at home or we were paying their bills, it was understood in our house that we knew what they were doing.
Men!
You slipped in Renee. I was out dealing with floating boats. I'm glad you enjoyed your show.
Renee, your Frost Heaves reminds me of this play down by these two guys called Greater Tuna. All the roles in the play are done by these two guys. I saw the play in a little New Orleans theater years ago. They did a couple of other plays also. Here's a little sample:
Greater Tuna: Funeral For The Judge
This one is even better
greater tuna
Carol, I was peeking in at TM a while ago and see you posted a pic of a hummer. why don't you post it here too.
Thanks in advance. I need something to lift my spirits today.
Y'all are still having to battle chances of snow up your way. It's going to get into the 30s here tonight. Yuk. It was a pretty day today, pretty windy but nice sunshine.
I just watched the "Tuna" link. I also watched "Funeral for the Judge" Both hilarious.
Thanks Carol.
The people in these sound just like people I knew in OK.
Funeral for the Judge. I could close my eyes and it took me back in time.
Carol, hope you are feeling better today.
Oh yes, bad food - all dairy.
Jan, the reason I stayed so thin for so long was all hyperthyroidism, not diet. I do eat some healthy stuff but lots of not so healthy stuff and way too much of all of it.
Now, all of the food sticks to me.
other bad foods on diet: beef and pork, alcohol.
John says "you have done stopped preaching and gone to meddling." LOL
Jan, you have my permission to meddle. LOL. I don't think that you would ever abuse it. Tell John.
If you have any interest in golf, you gotta see this, a tree shot.
Garcia plays a shot from up in a tree at Bay Hill
Did Garcia injure himself jumping out of the tree? Or was it an old injury?
Carol, you already know that I am not a true believer as to psychics, I just don't know one way or another...have no first hand experience with any of the things you beleive, whether the auras, the orbs, contact, whatever...
if someone I am with
should be 'read' by the psychic, I would consider that great...
Carol, we are getting close to 200, why don't you put up your little hummer you posted on TM. I want to see it here.
Carol, you could have been one Jung's patients.
Everyone on the course knew I had a hole in one by the time we walked up the 14th hole!...& yes
I bought everyone drinks (they only served beer, soda) in the clubhouse when we got in...
"I bet a lot of therapists get involved sexually with patients"
That's not only unethical but can't they lose their professional licenses over that??
I'm not sure lawyers have any ethical standards when it comes to relationships with their clients. That would probably qualify as an oxymoron. Place a smiley face here??
Renee, I used to be tallish, about 5' 9 1/2 ", but am collapsing at a rapid rate.
Jan, if you didn't like the movie, I'm not going to see it.
Jung didn't buy into all that sex stuff that Freud believed. He separated himself from Freud because of it but he did respect the man very much.
If Renee has some pics of her art work ready, she could put that up. We only have a few posts until we get into the witching number.
ethical...yeah right...when did that concern ever top a guy looking to get it on....really!...
And in case you forgot Carol, rule #1 through #10...lawyers rule the world...
OK, I put up a new post until someone else is ready.
And they have delusions of grandeur Coreen.
Coreen, I agree on the ethics thing. I don't think therapists/docs worry about that either.
Most of John's family are lawyers (dad, granddad, brother, SIL, and neice. John says he is the blacksheep of the family. Ha ha.
