Fishing Day.....Finally!

First three pics are the new additions to my old boat. Next pic is looking at my camp/home from the water. Then pics of the river and on an absolutely beautiful day. The first fish pic is a gar, not what I was going for. Getting him off my line was tricky. The last fish is a very nice catfish, wasn't what I was going for either but it will do. It will also be dinner. I only managed to pull in three fish I can eat but they were well worth the trip. It was a little windy and I'm still working on getting coordinated in the boat. I didn't fall in so it the trip was a success,

Nice way to play hooky....

The river looks so serene....& your home looks
like a bit of paradise....

those trees overhead look really high....glad
to see you do have neighbors, I was under the
impression that you were in a desolate section
with no one near...

Carol said...

I just finished eating the last pic. He was pretty tasty.

Coreen, there's a guy who lives in the camp on the left and he and I are the only ones, for a distance, who live out here.

I didn't see a soul out on the river today. I felt like I had the entire river to myself today. Good thing I didn't need any help. Most of the time when I go out in the boat there a several people I can call if I need help. Not today, everyone was at work.

Carol said...

I see that both the Yankees and Atlanta got the wildcard bid. Playoffs start this week. Yankees are playing the Twinkies, on the road.

Carol said...

Every time I see that catfish's face I feel guilty that I ate him. The pic gave him personality and I ate him...

Is anyone watching DWTS? I am so annoyed with Max. In the training sequences he is swatting Brandy on the butt. I think his behavior is abusive or at least bordering on abuse. I do not like it one bit. I think it is sending a bad message to people that it is ok to slap a girl on the butt to get her to do what he wants. Both Lin and Carrie Ann mention this but I think he should GO!

jan said...

I love that the Native peoples in this country would first apologize to what was to become their dinner.

jan said...

Oh dear Carol,

jan said...

The pictures are great Carol.

jan said...

Are you all watching a baseball game.

Carol said...

I did watch DWTS last night but I just wasn't that into it...but I did vote. I agree with you about Max and I'm glad the two judges got after him. I was very surprised that they did on TV. Actually, I don't like him and didn't even notice anything different last night, with his practice, until the judges jumped on him.

I wonder if it also may have something to do with the women he is gets to work with. Didn't he get Kate last time. Are these women real head strong or do they get that way after having to work with Max. I don't know. I do know that when I see him work with his partners each season, I end up not liking both him and his partner.

My thoughts about last night....Audrina and Brandy are going to give Jennifer a run for the money. Jennifer is older and had a few hard knocks over the years but we can't count those kind of things things for or against them.

Cho and Bristol are still trying to work thru their self esteem issues. I think Cho is doing a better job in doing that than Bristol is. Bristol has to get some animation on her face. Both may face be facing getting the boot this week but Cho may get the gay sympathy vote and Bristol may get those who like her mom sympathy vote. If that happens it may leave the Situation as the low man on the totum pole. Even he came off a little more sympathetic this week. He lost some of his cockiness.

Carol said...

I purposely didn't watch the Daily Show last night. I just heard on Morning Joe that Jon did say something about Sanchez. I was reading some stuff on Huff Post last night. C Hitchens wrote that CNN should give him his job back. Weird. There was a poll at the end of the article asking what the reader thought. 51 to 49 percent favored him getting his job back. That surprised me. I thought I was in the minority feeling sympathy for him.

Coreen said...

It's a rainy chilly start to the day again...

Carol, that is how I started not eating animals
with fur....just thinking about what they were
made me stop eating meat...and if I thought
more about fish, chicken I would likely not
eat any of that either...as it is I eat very
little of them now...

Coreen said...

Saw most of the DWTS routines...still think
Jennifer Gray is the best, but Audrina may
be the dark horse...

Seems the strongest dancers are the women, though Carol your guy Rick did a pretty hot
routine!!.....

Coreen said...

Jan, as far as your situation with the probate
matter, as I said way back when you mentioned
it, it rarely fails that when money is involved
in any dispute, things become very contentious...& you apparently have been experiencing this, though not sure of all the
particulars...therefore, hopefully the attorney
you select will be someone you have confidence in their abilities...recommendations
from friends, et al, often provide the best
way to find any professional service, but it
is all very personal...not sure if you have
spoken with and/or met personally with the attorney you are using, hopefully when you do
you will get a better sense of him/her....

Ask all the questions that concern you, provide
as much info as you have available & understand
that when another is intent on acting in what
may be not in your best interests, you have no
alternative but to in essence defend yourself...sorry that such a matter has become
so confrontational...but it is not uncommon...

Great pictures Carol. Your boat looks shiny new. Must have been nice getting out on the water while it was so quiet, with no one else around.

I particularly like pic 5, the panoramic view of your river. Also, it was nice seeing your home from the water like that, and the houses around you. Puts things in better perspective. I didn't quite realize how they built those houses 'right on' the rivers edge. It has all the modern conveniences and security, while still having the charm of a house boat.

A wonderful way to live - 'one' with nature. All those great big windows were a must! I have rooms like that too, where being inside is also like being outside (except for having a barrier from the elements). I need that feeling.

"when another is intent on acting in what may be not in your best interests, you have no alternative but to in essence defend yourself..."

Hi Jan. That's some excellent advice that Coreen gave you. Hope things turn out well with your new attorney (I think they will).

How did your screening go yesterday? Are you still enjoying working with the young families? Doesn't seem like you've gotten much rest since your retirement.

Hope your legal problems will be closer to a solution after Monday. It's so nice that you'll be with friends during that same visit.

Carol, I just had to go out to my car for something, and it's so cold. I looked on line and it's 51, but the way I'm bundled up this morning (including furry boots) you'd think we were in a deep freeze. I can't even believe me - what a sissy I am in the cold. It's ridiculous!

Solar said...

"what a sissy I am in the cold. It's ridiculous!"

Solar, I almost called you Tiger Woods, but had second thoughts about that.

I can't understand why I ever thought these satirists were so funny before, because I sure don't now.

"Daily Show host Jon Stewart had a field day at Rick Sanchez' expense last night, devoting a third of his show to the CNN anchor who lost his job on Friday after calling Stewart a bigot on satellite radio." http://www.deadline.com/2010/10/jon-stewart-pitches-ex-cnn-anchor-rick-sanchez-to-replace-steve-carell-on-office/

Carol said...

Ya know Chloe, Stewart is proving that Sanchez was right about him. He does look down his nose at people, like he's better. He really had a heyday when Sanchez demonstrated what being tased is like. It may have looked silly because you can't take that kind of insult and look dignified. It took some courage to do it and I think that was something people might like to know since some cops can get carried away using that weapon.

I still think the way Stewart picked on Sanchez bordered on bullying. I think he saw a vulnerability in him and took advantage of that. I don't appreciate that kind of humor.

I'll just bet that it is likely that Jon Stewart was a victim of bullying when he was a kid. He is a very short guy and kids do like to pick on little guys.

Carol said...

I was cold this morning also Chloe. The temp was still dropping after I left for work. I came home for lunch and it was 60 in the house. I had to turn on the heat for a little while.

I do like this temp only because it warms up to a very comfortable temp during the day. I hope this early cool weather doesn't mean we will have another really cold winter.

Carol said...

And Coreen, I thought your FB guy did really well this week. I like the way both the athletes showed a very tender side. This experience will probably be good for both of them.

Carol said...

I just heard on ET that Bolton will be back on DWTS tonight. I don't think he would be coming back unless Bruno offered to apologize on the air. What ya think?

Carol said...

DWTS fans might find this article interesting since we were discussing this earlier.

DWTS' Maksim Blasts Judge Carrie Ann: "Absurdly Disrespectful"

Carol said...

Something else interesting...

Expect an Ode to Bruno From Michael Bolton

Yeah, yeah, you can thank me later for digging up all this BS for ya.

Carol said...

Now it is better than all that political BS, isn't it? At least better for your blood pressure.

Carol said...

Jan, in response to your comments about how the Native American's apologized to what they killed and ate for dinner... I bet before they had to get their dinner from the super market they killed their dinner in a more humane way also. I did make sure catfishy was good and cold before killing and skinning him. And I still always feel bad about doing it.

And Coreen, even when you have to cook live crabs and crawfish, it pretty brutal looking having to put them in that boiling water. I always made sure they were numb from ice before doing it also.

And we don't know whether our veggies suffer before we eat them. I remember years ago on the Tonight Show, they had this guy who hooked up a plant to some electrodes and monitor. The guy then threatened the plant with a knife and it showed a reaction on the monitor. What does that leave us.....water??

jan said...

Carol, thanks for the links to the DWTS pros and stars. I think Carrie Ann should not have "spanked" Max after chastising him for doing the same to Brandy. BTW, Max's partner last season was Erin Anderson and they had a rocky start too. He demands "total control" over his dance partners which is what abusers are about.

jan said...

Carol, my advice is -take pics of your meal after they are cooked. I know several people who are vegetarians or vegans. One of John's priest friends won't eat anything that has a "face".

When I was a little kid (I may have told this story before), we lived in the country and daddy bought a little calf that he planned to have butchered. He didn't tell us kids that. He allowed us to make a pet of it. We even named it "baby face" It was a white-faced heifer. When he had the calf butchered, none of us kids would ever eat any of it. We would always ask "Is this Baby face?"

jan said...

Very interesting about plants. I personally don't have a problem with eating meat although I don't like to cook it.

Carol said...

Jan, even SF never had any of the cows he had to raise on a bottle slaughtered nor did he send any to the sale barn. He was pretty soft hearted.

Carol said...

Jan, now that you mentioned it, I do remember that Erin was Max's partner. They did lock horns often.

Coreen said...

The more you think/talk about animals, the less
likely to want to eat them...

And though I adore fur, I do not wear real fur
for the same reason...I find it offensive to
kill these animals for the desire to wear their
skin...

Coreen said...

Now to DWTS...I still think the comedian has to
go....& soon...I just don't like anything about her...

Carol said...

Oh, one of our favorites songs.....

Carol said...

Coreen, there's a situation I wouldn't mind losing tonight.

Coreen said...

What song, the one Michael Bolton was singing?

Did I tell you he lived in Westport (not sure if he still lives there) my cousin decorated
his home there...and naturally she is a fan...

He grew up in New Haven...

Carol said...

I think Cho may get the boot tonight.

Carol said...

Yes, the song Bolton did tonight. I'm not going to try and spell it because I have to look it every time I do. I know it's one of Jan and my favorite songs. I'm not that crazy about the words but the melody is beautiful.

Carol said...

They really all do bond on that show. There's a lot of group loyalty.

Carol said...

I think Bolton wanted to come out tonight to remind people that there is something that he can do very well....sing.

jan said...

Carol, I was so happy to hear Bolton sing Hallelujah. I will never tire of that song. I don't really get the words but it doesn't matter. I was in a home visit the other day and the mom had the TV on for the kids to watch a Shrek movie and Hallelujah played. I remember hearing that the song was written for that movie. How interesting!

jan said...

I read that the controversy between Bolton and the judge has given Bolton's career a boost.

jan said...

Coreen, great to hear Bolton lives in Conn. He is now one of my fav singers. A great voice.

jan said...

thanks for not giving out who gets the boot on DWTS. I too think it might be M. Cho. I am not rootin for Bristol any longer. She is not going to make it very long and I don't want her mom to get any more free advertising.

jan said...

OK! the results are in. M. cho is leaving.

jan said...

Unless she really mproves, Bristol is probably next one to go.

jan said...

Good nite all.

Carol said...

I don't know Jan, Bristol's mom's fan base is probably keeping her around. I was with you this week, I didn't vote for her. At first I wanted to see what she could do but I'm not seeing much progress. I bet Cho put more work/passion into her dancing than Palin.

I think even the judges were too easy on her this week, maybe because she seems so vulnerable. Unless she turns into a butterfly, I think she should be the next to go, then the Situation.

Carol said...

Coreen, are you excited about the playoffs starting tonight??

Mary said...

I agree that I think Palin should probably be the next to go on DWTS. The Situation has a big disadvantage because he so pigeon-toed but Monday nite I noticed he really tried to keep his feet straight and did good.

Jan, I also love Michael Bolton's singing. I remember going to a LOPA (LA Organ Procurement Ass.) inservice and they played one of his songs and it gave me chills. This is the song. It's always been one of my favorites.

Carol, Your comment about the possibility of a cold winter made me curious. This is the new Farmers' Almanac opinion (for whatever it's worth).

"For the coming year, the Farmers’ Almanac predicts that Old Man Winter will exhibit a “split personality.” The eastern third of the country, (New England down to Florida and as far west as the lower Ohio River and Mississippi River Valley), will experience colder-than-normal winter temperatures. Across New England, where relatively balmy temperatures prevailed during the winter of 2009–2010, the upcoming winter will be the equivalent of a cold slap in the face, as we forecast much colder-than-normal temperatures.

In terms of precipitation, three storm tracks are expected to predominate during this upcoming winter season. One will be across the Gulf Coast and Southeast, delivering copious amounts of precipitation from lower Texas across the South (Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia) into the Mid-Atlantic region.....

.... All things considered, when comparisons to last year are made, we believe that for most, it will turn out to be a “kinder and gentler” winter overall."
2011 Winter Outlook – The Wait is Over!

Coreen said...

Carol, we (spoiled Yankees fans) live for October!....The 6 months season is the prelude for this time of the year....

So the time is just about here...Hope the guys
bats come alive & CC is as strong as he is most of the time...playing the twinkies could
prove to be a problem...

Tampa lost today, & the Phillies are comfortably ahead right now...so it begins...

Coreen said...

And just checked to see that Halliday threw a no-hitter for Philly....

Carol said...

Chloe, does that indicate we are going to have a lot of rain. Last I heard we were 18 inches behind but I don't want to catch up too fast.

Carol said...

I saw on TM they were discussing the guy who didn't pay his $75 fire fee so the fire department let his house burn down and with his pets in it. What is going on in this country??? That sounds more like a Taliban tactic. I also heard that a neighbor offered to pay the damn fee.

Carol said...

Are you ready Coreen??? I saw a good bit of the last game....a no hitter for Philly.

Carol said...

You snuck in Coreen. Musta tiptoed.

Carol said...

I'm here and the TV is all warmed up.

Carol said...

Now, we're cooking with grease!

Carol said...

And I even forgot to watch my Modern Family tonight. They better win this one!

Coreen said...

And yes Carol, I watched the whole game...& the post game wrap-up on YES....(the Yankee
network)...

It proved to be a good game (for Yankee fans)
but nerve wracking...Grandy, Georgie, Mark came through when they had to...this time
they picked up CC who didn't have his best....& in the end...gotta go to Mo....

But the series still has a way to go...tonight, here we go again...hope Andy is ok...

Anonymous said...

Carol, This site has some easy to follow forecast maps for temperature, rain (and snow that we'll never see down here). According to the map, we're going to have above average temperatures this winter, and less rain too (much below average), down here... but, SECOND REVISION OF WINTER FORECAST WILL BE ISSUED ON OCTOBER 14TH

I don't know how well they can predict these things so early on, but we're due for a break down here on the gulf coast (and looks like we 'may' get it).

Anonymous said...

... although I 'always' expect the unexpected.

Anonymous said...

And I also expect to often be misled by the government:

"The Obama administration blocked efforts by government scientists to tell the public just how bad the Gulf oil spill could become and committed other missteps that raised questions about its competence and candor during the crisis, according to a commission appointed by the president to investigate the disaster.

Among other things, the report says, the administration made erroneous early estimates of the spill's size, and President Barack Obama's senior energy adviser went on national TV and mischaracterized a government analysis by saying it showed most of the oil was "gone." The analysis actually said it could still be there.

For the first time, the documents — which are preliminary findings by the panel's staff — show that the White House was directly involved in controlling the message as it struggled to convey that it, not BP, was in charge of responding to what eventually became the biggest offshore oil spill in U.S. history." Panel: Gov't blocked scientists on spill estimate

Finished by hot chocolate, so going back to sleep.

Carol said...

And Chloe we got a choice of worse, what we have now, or worser. There are only two choices. We're screwed. We've already put up with so much from our government. It can't get much worse than when they took our money to give to the crooks who stole our money and told us we have to do it, it's the only way.

We are drowning and there are the Repubs holding a inner tube with a big hole in it, smiling, and saying we're here to save you. Some forget that they are the ones who threw us in the river. There are a lot of people out there ready to grab for anything because they are so desparate.

There is the Witch party, disquised as the Tea Party, they are just Repubs in costume, pretending they are another option. Happy Holloween. HELLLLLLP!

But they don't even hide the fact that they want to get rid of social security, medicare, unemployment insurance, minimum wage, etc, etc. But we can still have our guns.

You may not believe in God or a higher power but there are a lot of parables, big hints, being played out. We just have to pay attention.

For example, the Repubs want to get rid of public service and trade it for private enterprise to provide same. They say it will be better. Yeah. There is the parable of the burning home. We just saw what happens when private business provides a service usually done by public servants. They watch your house burn down, with your little pets in it, because you forgot to pay your $75 fire protection fee. These are hints people.....big hints.

Carol said...

And Coreen I did watch to the end of the game but I was down to only one eye. It was the most exciting game. They gave us our money's worth.

Carol said...

Oh, we must remember that the commission that is giving us this info on the oil spill is a "presidental commission". The president set it up to find the truth and we are now learning that truth. The problems that lead to this mess and the cover up is something that started long ago when oil companies were given all the power they have. We have to look back at who is responsible for that.

Carol said...

Problem is when you unearth all this sh-- and you are holding the shovel, you get all the blame.

Carol said...

And I never thought that running McCain/Palin was a winning stratigy for the Repubs but then they didn't want to be holding the shovel when all this mess came to the surface. And so many of the electorate in the last election were naive and don't think to blame those who buried the sh--, just those who dug it up. I'm not just blaming the Repub either, there were plenty in both parties responsible.

Nothing will ever change until there is a way for honest people to run for office without having to depend on the crooks to finance their campaigns. Who can fix that??

Carol said...

We want to blame Obama but he has managed to sneak in a few good things. I could name quite a few actually. That's probably the best we can hope for in this climate of corruption.

jan said...

"They watch your house burn down, with your little pets in it, because you forgot to pay your $75 fire protection fee. These are hints people.....big hints."

Carol, so very true! It was also a private company that was guarding prisoners in Arizona who let the 3 criminals get out who killed the OK couple in an RV in New Mexico a couple of months ago.

jan said...

Chloe, I sure wish we will be getting some of those copious amounts of precipitation. I will probably stop in Texas.

jan said...

Coreen, although I don't follow baseball, I am rootin for your Yanks.

jan said...

Mary, I agree, The Situation put a lot more into his dancing than Bristol. She will probably go this coming week. John was reading to me that some of the audience was booing her mom a couple of weeks ago. That was unkind!

jan said...

Carol, sorry you missed Modern Family. It was a hoot. I know you will see it eventually. They do replays a lot. In the beginning of the show there was an earthquake. My fav characters are still Manny and Cameron.

jan said...

Well, folks I will say goodbye until we are in TX or OK. John and I will be "On the Road Again" that has always been one of my fav songs by Willie Nelson - for good reason. Another fav is "Breakin up is Hard to Do" Both songs have much meaning in my life. You will understand that Carol - LOL.

Watch for a star in Amarillo and Owasso, OK. I grew up in Owasso so we will be staying there for 3 nights. Owasso is on the edge of Tulsa so it might be Tulsa.

Love to all, and say prayers for us.

Mary said...

Jan, I will be praying for you. I hope everything goes well. Have a safe trip.

Mary said...

Jan,

"John was reading to me that some of the audience was booing her mom a couple of weeks ago. That was unkind!"

It turned out they weren't booing Sarah Palin. They were booing the score of Jennifer Gray and Derek.

Have a nice trip Jan. I know you are on the road now. I'll watch for your star. Check in when you can.

Carol said...

I think the eagle has landed.

Carol said...

Coreen, I like it better when the Yanks start out ahead. Lately, I don't handle stress very well.

Just finished having a crisis with SF. His nephew called telling me that SF took his twin brother's truck and he wanted to know what I was going to do about it. His brother leaves his keys in his truck. I told him to get his dad to take the keys out of his truck. He told me they wouldn't do that. If that's the case then what am I suppose to do about it.

I told nephew that if they were going to leave the keys in the truck and SF takes it again, call the police and have him arrested. He didn't offer any details of what actually happened.

When I finally got in touch with SF, I found out that his brother had taken a tractor up the road and told SF to have his son pick him up when he got there. Since his son didn't show up, SF took the truck to go pick his brother up. Pretty innocent. He does know he's not suppose to drive but he wanted to help.

SF's nephew wants SF in a nursing home. It was his nephew and his wife who tried to have him put away.

Carol said...

Seems everyone is testy today. Did the Twins coach just get the boot also?? I had to pause the game to take care of a crisis at the jail. Doesn't everyone realize that I have important things to deal with here.

Coreen said...

Ballgame over...Yankees win...now on to the Stadium....

They kept it interesting.

Now to see the Braves for the first time in a long time. I did pull for them many years ago.

jan said...

I see the star in Amarillo. That is so cool.

Coreen said...

I never liked national league teams...still don't...exception the Mets (but not when they
play the Yankees)...

Probably because for a long time there were
no teams down south...

Coreen said...

And now you have a New York connection (by way
of CT (some would say a suburb of NYC)...

Coreen said...

As far as your SF, doesn't sound like he did
anything terrible...He didn't take the truck
on to any main roads did he? in traffic...
it sounds like you handled it effectively...

Carol said...

These Yanks games have been exciting to watch. The others almost put me to sleep, even the no hitter.

Carol said...

It was just up a country road. His nephew didn't bother to tell me that. It was all pretty innocent, he thought he was helping and the way SF's nephew talked to me, you'd think he was out joy riding. I did end up telling him off and hanging up on him. I appointed Mary the designated communicator with him from now on. I will not answer any more of his calls.

Carol said...

I think it would be pretty cool if, by some miracle, Atlanta would again play the Yankees in the World Series.

Carol said...

Coreen, I'm not sure how effectively I handled it. I called him an AH and hung up. Would you call that effective??

Carol said...

You tucked in Jan?

Coreen said...

Am I correct that it was the nephew you called
an AH...seems justified based on his blowing
the incident out of proportion....

jan said...

Carol, your SF just can't seem to stay out of trouble.

Coreen said...

You do know you are being pulled in to the
Yankee fandom...little by little...you can't resist...& don't let any 'Yankee haters' get to
you...they are all envious...the Yankees are
a great baseball franchise...

Carol said...

Jan, he's just not used to being dependent. I certainly understand that. He really is doing well.

Coreen said...

And Jan, if you are still around, I saw you
said that you are rooting for my Yankees as well, many thanks...I think that is great, we are always happy to have more fans all around the country...

jan said...

Carol, I certainly can understand feeling dependent too. That nephew sounds like he is just waiting around for your SF to screw up.

jan said...

Coreen, congratulations on another Yankee win. I have an Albuq friend on Facebook who has a new baby - his avatar is his baby in a Yankees t-shirt. Makes me think of you.

jan said...

Carol, I am tucked in with my 'puter in my lap just finished watching Grey's Anatomy. It is like a soap opera. I have never seen so much bed-hopping. But I am hooked. I am avoiding watching some new shows as I can't give up my old ones.

Guess what! I am in the same time zone you are on.

Carol said...

I just watched last night's Modern Family online. The connection was not that good tonight and it didn't play very well.

Carol said...

But Jan, you'll still be running on your time clock.

jan said...

Good morning. It is 6 in Tx but 5 am on my bio clock. I was reading yesteday that we need 7 1/2 -8 hrs sleep each night. I feel good if I get 5-6. How much sleep do you all get?

Carol said...

Yes Coreen, it was that nephew I called a AH. When my phone rang with his wife's number on it, I didn't answer the phone. Then a minute later I got another call with a number I didn't recognize. It could have been one of my nurses so I answered. He didn't explain anything about what happened just told me that SF took his father's, his twin brother's, truck and what was I going to do about it. He said it in a very demanding and angry way. He's a jerk and no one who helps out with SF can stand the guy.

I'm just glad I didn't talk to him after I got the whole story.

Carol said...

Jan, I'm pooped this morning. I got 10 calls from work from 8p to after midnight. Every time I fell asleep, they woke me up and I had to do some serious thinking. I got up a little late this AM and called and said I would be in late. I need time to wake up slowly.

Also I heard the other day that you should not put your laptop in your lap. It cooks your skin.

Carol said...

Ya know our little star map is pretty accurate when it comes to locating us which makes me wonder about all those other stars on our map. How do those people find us and why don't they talk to us. After we started this blog I did extend an invitation to lurkers but nada.

jan said...

That is interesting about the stars on the map. I do lurk on facebook - it is the one place I can keep up with grandchildren and neices and nephews. My sons and DIL's are all on there too but we all lurk. Its the kids that talk. Every so often I go on and comment but seldom post anything myself.

Carol, sorry they distrubed your sleep. That is the thing about getting to sleep. You have to be able to turn off your brain. If someone calls me about work stuff late at night, then I can't quit thinking about it for another few hours. So I bet you got very little sleep if any last night.

So where else do people put their lap tops when they are on them?

Carol said...

I can't get into Facebook. I think it is more of a young person thing and some of those young people will be sorry about some of the things they put on FB. Put it online and it's potentially there forever. It's kinda like a tattoo.

Carol said...

Jan, there are little laptop, lap tables, you can use. Keeps the laptop heat away from you and allows better circulation of air around the laptop.

I just got an error message that my post was too large to process, but reloaded the page, and there it is. Guess they're just warning me about being to long winded.

... or full of hot air, take your pick.

Carol, I don't get the attraction of Facebook either. Except in cases like Jan has, where you can keep of with family and photos.

This kind of interaction here is so much more interesting, imo.

I don't think all those stars read all the comments. Many are probably passing through, or checking out the blog only.

Up to 87 here today, so much for the cooler weather. Noticed Lake Charles is going to be 91 Carol (I think that you!'re close to there ?).

Cold this morning though, 47. Going up to 60s as the low soon though. Just as I'm getting acclimated to the cooler weather too.

Nature likes to keep us on our toes!

Glad to hear your Yankee's are doing well Coreen. Must already be an enjoyable season for you.

Good day everyone!!
Happy Friday!

Blonde linked this over at TM, and I like the article so much, I wanted to bring it over here:

Rick Sanchez wants his CNN job back
"Asked why he indeed seems to have a chip on his shoulder, Sanchez said: "When I was a little kid, my parents were really poor." He recounted a childhood story that has stuck with him. Delivering furniture with his father, he once asked a rich woman for a glass of water, "and she said no, you go...and drink outside from the water hose."

When he asked his father about her reaction, he said in America you have to become somebody to gain respect. " http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i22ebc6f33ed6ca2e43ff8da806c261e9

Chloe, how sad that Rick S. had that experience. Children do not forget those things. I hope he gets his job back. I don't watch Jon Stewart consistently so I missed the show where he was making fun of Rick Sanchez. Shame on Jon.

We are in Owasso OK. this is where I grew up. I am meeting with my schoolgirl friends tomorrow morning at a restaurant. My parents lived here when I was born and I left the school when I went into 10th grade. I have so many memories of the girls I went to school with here. Most of them I have not seen since high school. One of them I see at least yearly and stay in touch by e-mail and 3 others I saw 5 years ago when my dad died.

jan said...

I'll be darned -I checked the stars and there is one for Owasso. BTW, Owasso is an Indian word - I think it means "end of the trail" I need to go on Google and check that out.

Coreen said...

Hey its a long weekend...Columbus Day...do you
have it off Carol?...

Most all closed here, except stores that is...

And it turned in to a lovely day today, & maybe the entire weekend...

And remember tick, tock, tick, tock...its 5 o'clock, the weekend has offically begun, so relax & enjoy...

Coreen said...

Jan, are you here... where are you texas or oklahoma...would you believe I've never been even through oklahoma...can you get some pics on this trip?...

jan said...

I found it on Google, Owasso means "the end" or "turn around" The picture that was always associated with Owasso was the Indian on the horse and the Indian had his head down. Owasso is part of Tulsa now but when I was growing up here, it was a tiny country town with about 1500 people living in town. Most of the kids in school rode the school bus from farms in the surrounding area - which included me from age 10-15.

jan said...

I will get some pics Coreen. BTW, Columbus Day is seldom celebrated in the more heavily populated Indian country states by city governments. Columbus is not too popular with the Native Peoples. I have never had Columbus Day off.

jan said...

Coreen, have a great weekend. I would love to see some fall pictures of the turning of the leaves in your part of the country. You all get the prettiest fall.

jan said...

Chloe, it is hot here too. It is in hi 80's or lo 90's here. We left beautiful weather in Albuq - 75 there now. But hey we will be returning soon.

jan said...

Chloe, I completely agree about writing and learning. When I am in meetings or educ. programs (we have to do continuing educ to keep license) I always have a pad and pencil and take notes. I may never go back and read them, but it helps me focus. If I don't do that my attention wanders - am sure I have ADD.

Carol said...

Jan, your meet up with your old friends sounds like fun. I don't have any contact with anyone from my childhood.

Coreen, don't worry I'm not talking any of that kind of sh-- today. And I do have Monday off but not because my employer has it as a holiday. I work for the State. But I work at a Parish facility and they do have the day as a holiday so I'm taking it. Some of the holidays are different for State and Parish so I take them all. I think it is a good plan.

Carol said...

I'm not sure how warm it got today, was warmer, but it hasn't felt as warm as summer did. Probably lower humidity. I'm getting dizzy turning the AC on and off all day. Even hit the heater a couple of times in the AM.

Carol said...

No Yanks game tonight. I'm disappointed. They have been my favorite games. Exciting. I did watch the Atlanta game last night also.

No problem staying up to finish the game since my telephone kept ringing. Every time I'd get a little snooze going the phone rang. One day I'm gonna lose it and bite someone's head off. And your right Jan, after I wake up to deal with the crisis, I'm awake for a good while. I had 12 calls between 7 and 12:30 last night.

I only slept about 30 extra minutes this morning but I was moving slower and went in a little later.

Carol said...

Jan, I baked a chicken last night and I was looking at the price of the chicken and how much it cost to get a rotisarre chicken from the store. There's not much difference and you don't have to waste the electricity or gas. The only plus for baking my own is that I get to keep the drippings and make gravy. I love chicken and turkey gravy. I made some cornbread stuffing to put that gravy on. Yummmm. Mag and I are having left overs tonight.

Carol said...

Chloe, some of our stars have been up there too long to think that they are just reading our blog posts. I wish they would talk to us. We are always open to new blog friends. Anyone listening????

Carol said...

We even welcome space aliens. We already have at least one of those.

Carol said...

So Offwego is your hometown Jan. Instead of the end of the line, it was the beginning for you.

jan said...

Carol, we can buy a rotisserie chicken here for $5. and its a big one that makes about 3 meals for John and me. I cook a big mess of fresh veggies in the elec pressure cooker that we have with the chicken. A few nights ago I cooked carrots, potatos, onions and cabbage in some chic broth in the PC - It was so good - and very healthy. I love this pressure cooker - only took 8 minutes to cook the vegs. You do love to cook. Me, I like what is quick and easy. Of course we miss out on the gravy and stuffing - except at Thanksgiving.

jan said...

Owasso Carol. LOL - yep the beginning.

jan said...

There are lots of stars right now. More than I have seen in a while.

jan said...

Owasso is pronounounce OH-wass-OH

Carol said...

Jan, you can make that box cornbread dressing. It's pretty good and easier than those veggies you do. Use chicken broth instead of water, add butter, bring to a boil and throw in the cornbread stuffing mix. In 10 minutes you have some cornbread dressing. Wasn't much to baking the chicken either. I wasn't up for much work yesterday either. My salad is usually more of a job that the chicken and stuffing was. But I didn't have the energy left to make my salad

jan said...

Carol, thanks for the recipe. I will try it out when we get home. Sounds delicious.

We spent a few hours with my girlhood friend tonight. She drove us all over my home town and shared much of the history of the past 40 years. Fascinating.

Am watching Anderson Cooper in an episode on bullying. One of the people he is interviewing is Crystal Bowersox. Dr. Phil is on there too. Crystal said she was bullied both at home and at school.

Carol said...

Crystal showed signs of low self esteem when on AI. I think that low self esteem is one of the things that invites bullying. The person is giving off an aura of I'm no good and others pick it up and go after them.

Carol said...

I remember years back observing a friend of mine pick on a friend of hers. I didn't know the her friend and was surprised that my friend treated her friend that way. After spending more time around this person I noticed that I also felt the desire to treat her the same way. It was weird I really couldn't figure out what this person was doing to make us want to act that way. Since that time I have noticed people who also seem to invite that reaction from people.

jan said...

Carol, what you are saying puts the responsibility of the bullying on the person bullied. In people who are abused as adults, the problem is in the abuser - not the abused. Likewise, it is not the person who is bullied who has the problem, it is the person who bullies. One of the young men on the show who said he had been a bully - and he looked like a perfectly "nice" guy, said he bullied other kids because he got a positive reaction from his friends. It made him feel good b/c he felt like part of the larger group. So the problem was his - and he needed that outward reaction from his friends to feel good about himself.

The biggest issue with bullying now in schools is "cyber" bullying and kids cannot get away from the bully in this case, even when they are at home. The most obvious case of bullying in schools now are those kids who are different - such as from different cultures than than the major group of kids or those who are gay.

jan said...

Crystal said last night that she was bullied at home and at school. She said she thought about suicide constantly. This is the issue. when these kids are bullied, they think their lives will be like this forever. So many kids are committing suicide now b/c of bullying.

Crystal did not talk about it last night, but I have read that she has said she is gay. She certainly comes across to me as "different" and that is often what attracts bullies to people.

Carol said...

Jan, I certainly don't mean to put any of the blame on the bullied person. I'm just pointing out an observation and something I found weird that I had never recognized before. And what I was talking about wasn't anything close to bullying or abuse.

When you examine a phenomena, you do have to look at that phenomena from all angles, not just the most obvious one. That is a mistake that is made too often because it is easier. Of course, any time violence is involved, it is definitely the fault of the person using the violence.

Carol said...

Working in all the diverse environments that I have worked has allowed me to study some of these phenomena from all angles. I have seen people who appear to be victims. That seems obvious to most people but after closer examination, I have found that being a victim can be a lifesyle choice, even if not a conscious one.

Carol said...

For example, if a woman has multiple relationships and every one of them is abusive, is it just her bad luck or is she subconsciously selecting people who will abuse her. If we just blame those who abuse her, we are not going to fix her problem.

Carol said...

We are never going to solve the problem that there are mean, evil people in this world. Ain't going to happen. But we can help victims learn how to avoid these people or examine if there is something they are doing to invite this meanness.

Mary said...

I just heard on the news that those miners in Chili may be freed as early as today. At first they said they may not be able to get these miners out until close to Christmas. I know their families must be so happy.

Anonymous said...

Mary, that is so good to hear. I can't even imagine what it's going to be like for those guys, when they come out of there - and their families.

Anonymous said...

I think maybe it's a mistake to discuss the bully and the victim in the same conversation - that they are best left as completely separate issues.

The 'bully' is probably bullying everyone, not just the 'vulnerable person'. The vulnerable person just happens to suffer the most from it. And we have to keep in mind, bullies often go after children too. They're experts at finding weakness.

A person that only goes after people weaker than they are is a coward, in my opinion.

Anonymous said...

... and they're often mean to animals too. Unforgivable.

Carol said...

I'm not including those who are physically or mentally or intellectually handicapped, but some bullies and victims might share some of the same characteristics in that they don't feel very good about themselves but deal with it in two entirely different ways. And it is difficult to discuss the matter by separating the preditor from it's prey.
