Santa Fe in April

Taking lots of pics of Santa Fe. Here are a few. Churches are important in SF. The 3 here are important to the area. One is the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi. The 2nd is the Mission of San Miguel, reported to be the oldest church in the U.S. The 3rd is my favorite, the Church at Loretto which is supposed to have a stairway to the choir loft that is considered to be a miracle. One pic here is one I took in the elevator of the La Fonda. It has mirrors on 3 sides of the small elevator. You can see John 4 times and me taking the pic.

pic 1 is Cathedral, pic 2 is John in elevator, pic 3 is Church of Loretto with miracle stairway, pic 4 is Inn of the Governors with Native peoples and their jewelry and pots, pic 4 is looking down one of streets of SF.

Love the pics Jan. Keep them coming. I'm enjoying our vacation. I didn't noticed my back feeling any better after my massage. Musta been too soft.

I feel so bad for John. He accidentally dropped his computer while packing to come to SF. It was working and now is not. Hope it can be repaired.

Funny, I can blow up all pictures xcept first one. When I try to blow it up, I only get the top 1/4 of the pic. Most interesting. Can you blow it up Carol?

And speaking of Saints..I needed this little electric staple gun for my friend to use for replacing some ceiling tiles in my living room at home. There was a little leak a while back and it warped a few ceiling tiles by the fireplace.

My secretary/friend changed them. She had never done it before but she's pretty good at doing just about everything and she did that too. It came out nice.

Well back to the Saint. I thought my little staple gun was at the camp so I came to get it. I tore through my little tool room and couldn't find it anywhere. I asked St Anthony for help and up until this time..he hasn't let me down when looking for any of my lost items. After a short search..I still couldn't find it but told St Anthony that it was OK..everyone has a down day.

As I was headed back to the house..I thought that maybe I never brought it to the camp. When I got home..I looked where I had this feeling it might be and lo and behold..I found it. Thank you again St Anthony.

Carol said...

Yes..I can blow it up Jan.

I think I will turn in. John is already asleep. We sat down in the hotel lobby for an hour. There was a band playing in the lounge and we could hear it very well. A wedding party was taking place on the mezanine so lots of well-dressed folks going in and out. Also it is prom night here and teens in formals. Lots of fun people-watching.

Good night all. Thanks for hanging out with me here in SF.

jan said...

Good for St. Anthony. I will have to try that sometime.

Carol said...

I'm sorry about John's computer. I think that might be one reason Lappy 1 has her seizure disorder. She made a couple of short tumbles. She's still working but it takes a little screwing around with her when I first turn her on. She kinda starts screaming. Her comma button still doesn't work. I try to avoid it but if I hit it and it starts to work..it works and works and works.

jan said...

We went into the Cathedral (top pic) this morning and said prayers for my sis-in- law (my late brother's widow). She had replacement of an aortic valve last week. I hope she is doing ok. She was in ICU and was on a ventilator. I did hear she is off the ventilator. I don't have much contact with my brothers kids any longer. They all live in OK. Terry (No 2 son) called on Thurs when we heard she had surgery.

Carol said...

Once Lappy 1 is up and running she seems to be OK but the other night I fell asleep with her on and woke up to her screaming. I thought it was my alarm clock so I kept trying to punch it off. I finally realized it was Lappy 1..screaming again.

jan said...

Carol, his computer is making little noises now also when he first turns it on. He had put it in a bag. He didn't realize the bag was not fastened when he picked it up and the computer tumbled out. We have hardwood floors so it hit pretty hard.

jan said...

poor Lappy. Sounds as if Lappy is in pain.

Carol said...

I hope your sis in law does well. Those valve replacements are pretty routine these days. I have a pile of them that I take care of in the joint.

jan said...

that is good news. I am concerned as she had some lung problems a few years ago. She is a person who does not tell you when she is having health problems. I really don't know what the lung problems were about. Her kids are pretty private too.

Carol said...

After a valve replacement the patient has to take coumadin..a blood thinner. I have this one inmate who torments me with it. It's his form of entertainment.

For a while he wouldn't take the dose he needed. Said he had to take this one dose and no more. Well..his blood level said he needed more. He was not taking it and hoarding it in his room. His blood level showed it. We found his stash in his bed area on two occasions. I spent hours explaining why he needed the increased dose and how we determine the dose. That didn't matter.

He can't be allowed to hoard the stuff..it's the same chemical in rat poison and not a good thing to have stashed in a jail room. We made him come down to take the med in our department.

He came up with every which way he could to not take it. First we caught him spitting it in his water glass. Then it was hiding it between his fingers. No matter what we do..he's still manages to do something but we can't figure out what. His levels are too low and each week I raise the dose a notch and the level doesn't change. Then one day he actually takes it and his level goes off the chart.

If this guy doesn't hurry up and get out of there..I'll need a valve replacement.

We have several patients that enjoy tormenting medical. We're their only friends and they still get a kick out of tormenting us.

.

Carol said...

Your S-I-Ls lung problems could have been secondary to long standing aortic valve disease.

Carol said...

How old is S-I-L? I've only seen one person die after valve replacement and it was a young woman who I would have least expected to die. It was when I was doing my clinicals in Houston. Never heard of another one since. They do a lot of them onl older people.

Carol said...

Well..I hope you enjoy the rest of our vacation. Love the pics. Keep you eyes pealed for Shirley.

Carol said...

She may not be there though. She's on her book tour.

Carol said...

What's been kinda weird..our weather's playing along with my vacation fantasy. It's been very blue skies..warm days..low humidity..and really cool nights. Not SW Louisiana weather..more NM weather. Weird huh? I told you that the Universe is working in some mysterious ways.

Carol said...

Warning..don't read Great Scots blog until you are ready for a good cry. I balled like a baby. Don't worry..nothing happened to any of his little farm family..it was just a story that had a sad old dog story in it. You might call it an "Old Yeller" moment.

Now it's a good blog post like always and it has some good ponders in it but pick a time when you need a little water works. I know you guys.. it might stir up a few.

Carol said...

I was thinking about Mr. Scottyman's blog post and what I wrote about how some of my inmates like to torment us when we show them the only love they can get in jail.

Let me give you a hint..Mr. Scottyman asks the question of if some men can have evil in them or maybe whether all men potentially do? It's an interesting ponder and I'm sure you will want to run over and read his blog now even if you'll have to drop a tear over there to do it.

I have pondered that question often. I take care of people who have been charged with and convicted of some horrendous things and when I have spent time with them..they seem like pretty neat people..regular old joes..not capable of the evil they have once perpetrated. I even think that I should feel fear in their presence but I don't.

I can't believe that all man do have that potential for evil in them but I do think that there are probably many who do. The right set of circumstances can set it off. One of those circumstances is named..Xanax. I've seen that way too often and even discussed it with the people who had the experience. They agreed.

I've thought about it with the Nazi experience. How could so many have been involved with the horror there?? I've even thought about it now..with some of what is going on in Washington. It really hurts my soul to think about it.

Carol said...

I do think that if that evil is there..that there must be some hint of it somewhere..and if you know that person really well..you might get a hint of it..even if it is that they can blast Bambi between the eyes without batting an eye.

Carol said...

For the record..I don't think all men..and I include women there..have the potential for evil. I do think that how you feel about animals and how you treat them..even the sickly ones..is one of the best indicators of whether the potential is there!

jan said...

Carol, my sis in law is about 64. I will talk with Terry today and see if he will get an update for me. He spent summers with my bro and SIL and their kids when he was a teenager and has remained close to all of them. My bro was very religious and we didn't see eye to eye on lots of things. I stayed in touch with them before my dad died 5 years ago, but not so much since them. Probably more my fault than theirs.

Carol said...

And yes Coreen..I have pondered whether those of us who eat meat are somehow accomplisher in evil. It does bother me but I try to stay in denial there. As I was sitting outside watching my birds and pondering that..I saw a cat come from out from a hiding place and try to snag a bird. I ran down to chase it off. I thought..is that cat evil because it needed breakfast?? I thought not. We do need to eat. And I think that hunting to provide food is a different concept from hunting for the love of the sport of killing an animal. You might call it denial. I might have to agree.

Carol said...

Morning Jan..hope I didn't wake you with all my noise..I'm just flapping my gums here or actually my fingers. Enjoy the rest of our vacation.

jan said...

Carol, thinking about your guy that hoards his heart medicine - makes me think of all of us. I think if we don't have control of our lives in the usual ways - freedom to go where we want to go and do what we want to do, we try to control what we can. I raise this as a possibility. Maybe whether or not he takes his medicine is one of the few areas of his life he can control. Maybe living or dying is secondary to having something we can be in control of.

Carol said...

and that was suppose to be accomplice not accomplisher. I still have sleepy brain.

jan said...

As for evil, I believe each of us has the potential for evil. I know for myself (in my younger years) when I have felt envy or jealousy, I have had evil in my heart, although I have not acted on it insofar as trying to physically hurt someone, I have sure fantasized some evil deeds.

Carol said...

You are right Jan about that control thing. I have many who do that and I recognize that fact. But this is like a game with this guy. He uses it as a way to get to us. He can't go after those who he is really angry with so he come after those of us who really try to help him. It's a form of inappropriate displacement.

jan said...

I do believe the reason I have not acted on some evil thoughts and fantasies is that I had a mother who talked to us kids all the time about how it is important to be kind to all people and we are supposed to love those who do evil to us. I do suspect too that all that time spent in church as a child had something to do with not doing evil deeds.

My perception of evil deeds is doing things purposely to other people that we know will hurt them.

jan said...

"He can't go after those who he is really angry with so he come after those of us who really try to help him. It's a form of inappropriate displacement."

It does sound like a game to him.

jan said...

Carol, I am still enjoying our vacation - this feels like our old discussions we had years ago.

jan said...

I hate to interrupt our talk here, but John is packing up. BTW, his computer is working fine now. It does make that little whining noise when he first turns it on. He has a hard drive that he has not used as yet. He is going to back up all his stuff and then make a trip to the Apple store this afternoon to get it checked out.

I am turning things off. Talk later.

Coreen said...

Good morning...

Enjoying the pics of SF...especially since the
architecture is so different then on the East Coast...thanks for sharing your weekend getaway with us Jan...

Carol said...

I noticed that WiFi doesn't register on our star map. I don't either. I can be here and it has 0 visitors. I'm invisible!

Carol said...

Have a great day and be careful. Yes..back up that hard drive. These laptops do not like to be manhandled or clumsy woman handled. That's why I'm glad I have Lappy 2. I just don't move them anymore.

Carol said...

Coreen. I also love that architecture. I going to see Jan this year. Yes I am.

Coreen said...

Carol, being a person who prefers animal company more than most humans...anyone who
injures an animal to me should have the same
things done to them...I have no use for those
who abuse animals...& yes I do think that such
behavior is a prelude to injuring humans, children...

As for eating animals, that is a personal choice for me....others obviously don't have
the same feelings about it as I do...

Hunting is something I don't approve of or understand....as far as I'm concerned, if a hunter wants to kill that animal then he/she should do it w/o the use of highpowered,
sophisticated weaponry...hunt the animal on its terms & let's see who wins...
actually hunters are a sick joke with all the
equipment they need to kill that defenseless animal...in essence these big time macho hunters really have no balls...

Coreen said...

Whether evil is inherent in all humans...don't know, but I too believe that we all have the potential to do something that may be evil...
but generally most do not act upon those
thoughts...

Coreen said...

And no I usually don't read anything that talks
about animals being hurt/dieing, etc, if I have a choice...

Carol said...

"being a person who prefers animal company more than most humans.." Me too Coreen.

A few of my inmates..who I won't give sleeping pills to or won't give them a bottom bunk cuz they can climb with no difficulty will yell out their jail cell windows at me that I'm just a Veteranarian. I smile and think..then what does that make you..or think..that's actually a compliment.

Carol said...

And I do agree that we all are capable of evil thoughts..but just don't act on them.

Coreen said...

And Jan, when you are back, yes I did finish
the 1st girl with/who book...

the mystery was well formed...the graphic violence depicted may have been needed to convey the gist of the story, but could have done w/o...especially the killing of the cat....unfortunately I had
the idea that the cat would be killed as soon as it was mentioned...

My picture of Salander was of Abby on NCIS...don't know if you ever watched it... (though Abby character has a much healthier attitude), I found Salander to be dark, unhappy combination victim/vixen, deeply flawed almost sadistic, even though she was the hero...

Not anxious to read the other 2 books for the forseeable future...but hey, that's what makes
the world go round...

Carol said...

And I think Scottyman was also pondering.. as this Ayn Rand said..if the potential for great art comes from a place with the same potential for evil. I'm not sure but I think that is what they were indicating.

I do think creativity does often come from a place of suffering or torment. So maybe there is something to it. Remember..a long while back..when we discussed if there was a fine line between creative and crazy?

Carol said...

Oh..and I did comment on Mr Scottyman's blog that we did read and enjoy his blog. Wanted him to know he had some fans out here.

Carol said...

Just passing thru. I came home to make some tuna salad for lunch, for painter lady and myself. Did you hear that Coreen, I said TUNA. But I do have to apologize to the pig I nibbled on for breakfast.

I'm going back to mow the yard and polish some furniture there. I do have this youngster almost lined up to do the mowing from now on but it's an absolutely awesome day out today. Mowing will be a pleasure. Then I have to go visit stepfather at the Senior Care Hospital.

The Universe keeps making it harder to visit SF. The 80 mile round trip and the time of day they allow visitors is tough. I'm not sure if it is to give me a good excuse not to go visit or just to make it more difficult to do it. I don't think the former excuse option holds much water since SF probably doesn't understand that it is difficult.

It would be so much more of a pleasure to visit if SF would just talk and I wouldn't just have to sit there thinking of BS to say or hear the sounds of silence. You know I am well capable of spewing BS but I can't think of much BS appropriate for SF. And to boot, they strip me of my Iphony before I go in, so I can't even play with it.

Carol said...

I see we have a Camden Arkansas star flashing. I have some fond memories of that town. My old spinster aunt, grampys sister, lived there. She lived in the old family homestead and I thought it was a castle when I was a kid. It was huge with lots of rooms and a back servants kitchen staircase.

They evidentually sold it to the Baptist church next door for a parking lot. Sniff sniff.

Each generation in our family had a spinster aunt. Auntie, we called her was in grandfather's generation, my aunt Kathleen was in my dad's and guess who was in my generation? Yep, your's truely. I lost one too many times to that Old Maid card game.

jan said...

Coreen, thanks for your thoughts on the "the girl who.." book. Carol is talking about all the evil - the book certainly depicted much evil. I generally don't care for that much violence, but once I began the books, could not stop.

jan said...

We are back home. We decided to pack up and come home for breakfast. John is having his now. Had a great time but as always, no place like home.

jan said...

Carol, I too went to the Great Scots site and I too teared up reading about the little Scottie, Bart. I left a message too and it wound up repeating several times. I hate to admit this but having grown up in the country/on farms, people were not often kind to animals. The way to rid oneself of an unwanted animal was to drown it, shoot it, or take it off somewhere where it was believed it could not find its way home. I am not kidding.

jan said...

Interesting Carol, John was the priest for a short while in Camden, AR - he was sort of an interim Priest there. He was living in Magnolia AR - not far from Camden and was the Priest in Magnolia's epis church. John's grandmother's sister lived in Camden and he used to visit her. What was your aunt's name? That was many years ago- before I knew him.

jan said...

Carol, am LOL at your comment above about being the spinster aunt in your generation. Read to John and he is enjoying it too.

jan said...

Some of John's favorite church members have been the spinster aunts. They are the ones who do much of the work in the church.

jan said...

"I going to see Jan this year. Yes I am."

Carol, Yaayyyy - you come on here any time girlfriend.

jan said...

Coreen, please skip what I wrote about living in the country. Just to let you know, I have never done anything like that to an animal.

jan said...

Carol, I love that your inmates yell that you are a veterinarian. I too believe that to be a compliment.

jan said...

" I found Salander to be dark, unhappy combination victim/vixen, deeply flawed almost sadistic, even though she was the hero..."

Coreen, so true. I can't remember about the 1st book, but she had a very dark childhood and had watched her father badly abuse her mother- that was the rationale by the writer for her "darkness" As for the man who sexually abused her in the 1st book - she gave back what she got and more.

jan said...

Carol, hope your visit with SF is not as bad this time. Drive safe.

Santa Fe sounds and looks wonderful, Jan. I've enjoyed catching up on the conversation you all have had. You covered a lot of territory, and I haven't had much time to ponder it, but I'm sure the back of my mind is already working on it.

The pictures are beautiful. Everything there looks serene - a perfect vacation spot. That's funny that you sat down on that bench and found yourself at a Tea Party gathering. Glad you and John didn't boo them too much - we may have ended up seeing it on the evening news. :)

My favorite shot was the one you got of John in front of the mirrors, with you even showing up taking the picture. How did you ever think of that. It's a great photo! You could probably enter it in some kind of contest.

Anonymous said...

.... I know what you mean about how good it always is to get home though. I even feel that way after we have a long day out and about. And when we used to travel more, I've always felt a great comfort when I'm home again.

Anonymous said...

"... she had a very dark childhood and had watched her father badly abuse her mother"

To me, the way you describe the setup for that book is a good example of how 'evil' can be formed in the human psyche.

I personally don't believe it's inherit in all people, but things happen from the beginning that cause some to be worse than others.

They say we're like sponges the first few years of our life, indiscriminately absorbing everything that's happening in our environment, and now we can't even remember those years. It's just hard for me to picture someone who has been brought up with nothing but love having to ability to be evil.

'Course, I'm not working out at that prison either. But we still will never know what happened and each circumstance was difference.

I just don't think babies are born evil. Most things are learned.

Anonymous said...

"... we are supposed to love those who do evil to us"

Jan, I really don't believe that to be true.

Some things are 'unforgivable'. That doesn't mean we have to carry the burden of hate or resentment, but we certainly can't erase those things that happened. We can let them go though. I know I've let many things go, but it has nothing to do with forgiveness.

I think most people are kind and well meaning, and others aren't. I try to avoid the ones who aren't. I don't really care why they are like they are, I just don't want them involved in my life.

Anonymous said...

I'm going to pass on reading the Scotty blog this week. You all know I only like happy endings.

I don't think I'll be able to read that first 'Girl' book either, now that I hear that something is done to a cat.

I don't mind violent books and movies - I can separate them from reality - unless there's an animal involved. Don't know why, but all I can think when I see an animal mistreated, is that it happens so much in the real world.

I'm going to bury my head in the sand, Carol.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if John could have rattled the battery somewhat when he dropped his computer. I've dropped my laptops, and don't remember having a problem with it.

Some of the older computers had batteries that disconnected more easily. Did you say John has had his for 8 years?

Anonymous said...

Carol, that sound you're describing your laptop as making is the same sound you hear whenever there's a stuck key -- ha! I should know, I've spilled things on my laptops more than once.

My last Toshiba was still almost new when I spilled a sticky drink on it, and the keyboard became useless. I got another computer, but held onto the sticky one and eventually (not long ago) ordered a keyboard on for it for $35. and hubby installed it for me (we found instructions on line, and there wasn't much to it). Best Buy charges about a $150. or more to change it out, and I wasn't even considering do that, because I know they would have upped the price before they were done.

Anyway, I'm happy. And I'll know what to do if it happens again (heaven forbid).

"My perception of evil deeds is doing things purposely to other people that we know will hurt them."

Jan, I just went back and looked for the comment you made with the line I just quoted. When you all were talking about evil, I was thinking of something much worse than what you stated there. Evil has an awfully large range from bad to horrific.

Anonymous said...

And from that same comment "I do suspect too that all that time spent in church as a child had something to do with not doing evil deeds."

That's something that's always bothered me about some churches. That they expect the worst of people, and think we can only be good if we work really hard at it.

I think we start out good, and learn the bad behavior as we go.

I will never understand 'hunters' either.

That movie 'Powder' years ago, had a scene in it where the guy who had just shat a dear went up to it and touched it, and had a eery flash of insight on the pain and horribleness of what he had just done. It was a long scene, and represented someone who had just seen the light -- suddenly had an awareness of the reality of the unnecessary pain he cause. He could feel it from the deer's point of view.

It was a very effective message from that movie. The guy, who'd been a hunter since childhood never killed another animal.

If only it were that easy to make people aware. It requires a great deal of empathy to see things from all sides. Unfortunate, the ones who most need to change usually have very little desire to do so.

Anonymous said...

Carol, Maybe you should find the appropriate book and read to SF when you visit him. You know him well enough, that you could find one you may both enjoy -- fiction or non-fiction.

You could even leave the book there on his night stand, bookmarked and ready to go when you visit again.

Crazy idea?
Maybe, but you might even be able to read him to sleep. :)

Coreen said...

Chloe, please don't let my view of the book, color yours...I probably shouldn't have said anything specific about it...

for me, while I do like mysteries, murder mysteries et al, I don't read non-fiction for the most part...I read to be entertained,I don't need graphic depictions of violence to
get the idea (in movies as well)...

The girl with/who books are wildly popular & as
Jan has said she couldn't put them down...

Coreen said...

Carol, you can eat whatever makes you happy...I eat fish...if I really thought about it, I probably woudn't eat any living creature...fish, fowl, in addition to my inability to eat furry animals...& mostly I don't...remember I eat to live, not the reverse
as I believe you said you do...

Coreen said...

Jan, though the comment about how country folk
treated animals made me cringe...I know that
those who farm have a much different view of
animals then someone like me...& whether you
would have or not acted in the manner you described...well I would try to ignore it if you said you did...& chalk it up to a less enlightened time for people in their assessment of the hierachy of the animal kingdom....

Honestly, I could never understand how kids proudly raised an animal, a cow, pig, treated it like a pet, went to one of those country fairs to show it maybe win a medal, then let it be sold to be killed for meat...but that's just me...

Coreen said...

And by the way, not to rile you up...Carol, you especially....but do you know any person
who claims to be a member of the 'tea party'...

I don't...

Coreen said...

Are they the same that would have made up the
'silent majority' or the 'angry white guy' tags from years ago...

Carol said...

Chloe, don't miss Great Scot's blog. He just took in a dog that was left to die in the desert and he gave him a nice home and the dog, who was so neglected, was the sweetest of all the dogs.

It was a happy tear. Of course you did have to think a moment about someone who would leave their dog to die. Hey that might be how I got my Maggie girl. Someone dumped her and she turned into a wonderful gift for me.

And Jan, that is not how all farmers or country folks are. I know no one who would do that to an animal. Bob took in race track horse would were put out to pasture. He fed and took care of them and most, you couldn't ride.

All of his dogs were dogs that just wondered up to his home, probably dumped, and they were a pretty pitiful bunch but he loved them. Old Buster was pretty hard to love. His teeth prints adorned many legs, and a couple of asses, around that town.

Carol said...

And no Coreen, I know no tea party people. Wouldn't it be a hoot if the party is a big hoax perpetrated by liberals to undermine the Republicans. If that was the plan, it's working. LOL.

Carol said...

Jan, I can't remember Auntie's first name we just called her Auntie. Her last name is the same as mine. She was Methodist, I'm pretty sure. She was a school teacher. So was my other aunt.

Carol said...

And Chloe Mr. Scottyman's blog discusses man's capacity for evil. You need to read it. He talks about that movie, No Country for Old Men.

Carol said...

The visit with SF went well. We actually talked. He was better than he was during the week. I did tell him he couldn't go home. I'm not sure he really heard me and I said it more than once.

I told the nurses that I thought he needed an xray of his left hip, and that I thought that some, before meal, blood sugar checks would be nice, and that maybe he could use a walker for stability and...

They kinda seemed to give me some blank stares. I also mentioned that I hoped this experience wasn't just to milk Medicare. Couldn't really read their expression when I said that. I said I would like some of the funds to be left when I needed them.

Carol said...

And Coreen, you can't rile me, I was on vacation this weekend. I'm nice and relaxed.

Well, I did have to add mowing my big yard at the house to my chores this weekend but I did talk to the kid who I'm going to hire, if we can work out a deal. The weather, the NM special, was so perfect that I didn't mind. I bet Chloe had the same weather.

Carol said...

Coreen, my Gardenias are starting to bloom. There was only one open today and I picked it and brought it into the house. It smells so lovely.

So many wonderful scents this time of year. Maggie and I take out the golf cart and sniff our way down the road. Heaven. Then we come home and I take a snort of my steroid nasal spray so we can still smell tomorrow.

Coreen said...

Here's some news you can use on Tax Day:

"The Internal Revenue Service tracks the tax returns with the 400 highest adjusted gross incomes each year. The average income on those returns in 2007, the latest year for IRS data, was nearly $345 million. Their average federal income tax rate was 17 percent, down from 26 percent in 1992."

Congrats on your Yanks Coreen and they were playing the Rangers weren't they?

Yep, you're right Carol. The weather has been unusually heavenly here also. We're going to be 92 by Wednesday, so it's going to start rising. Back to sleeping under just a sheet at night, and loving the comfort of being warm.

That, and all the beautiful green and blooming of the flowers, etc. Don't much like the pollen and insects - but not going to complain.

Coreen, I'm the same way about violence in movies and TV - don't like to see it. In books, I just scan over it well enough to get the drift. I'm just going to start with volume 2 of the 'Girl' series. I'm glad you mentioned the cat - I would have hated to run across it not knowing.

Carol, I'll read the Scotty blog later today. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Jan, I like all sorts of books. I'm very fond of mysteries, but anything well written is enjoyable to me. Violence in books doesn't bother me either, because they writing about things that really happen. I can deal with that. Animal abuse just makes me feel ill, even when it's fiction though (even if I think about it) - a hangup I have (and can't watch it on the screen either).

Weird, because it's easy for me to separate fiction from reality when it's humans though.

Anonymous said...

Ugh .... Monday to deal with now.

Have a good day everyone.

Anonymous said...

ps
I was just thinking, I wouldn't be able to watch or read about 'baby' abuse either. Thank goodness you rarely see it on the screen or in a book. It would have a horrible effect on me too (me, and everyone else, of course).

Carol said...

On lunch break. Chloe I like mysteries also but can't tolerate those that involve child killing or abuse. Mary Higgins Clark was popular a good while back and it seemed she often had murders involving children. I liked her writing but couldn't often handle the involvement of children.

Carol said...

Coreen, the reason we hear so much about the Tea Party, aka poop party, is because the media is so focused on them. The media loves crazy people, it's the Charlie Sheen phenomena, CS phenomena. They give all these crazies, ie Sarah Palin, Glen Beck, and Trump all this attention and the crazier the things they say, the more attention they get.

I'm sure that the crazies do represent a significant portion of our population. All the current crises made people crazy so they want someone to represent them. Unfortunately the crazy population are supporting the crazy representatives who don't have their interest in mind. That's the real crazy part.

Carol said...

Darn, as soon as our NM vacation was over, our NM weather returned to La weather, yuk. Radio weather guy said we had the lowest humidity he'd ever seen here this weekend, got down to 10%. Weird huh. Now it's 74%. I guess we can create our reality by what we think.

jan said...

Carol, how interesting about your weather change.

jan said...

Carol, so glad to hear your visit with SF went well.

jan said...

Carol, John did not recognize your last name in Camden, but he knew a lot of people by the name in Hot Springs. He was priest of the Epis church there in early 1970's.

jan said...

I found No Country for Old Men disturbing also.

jan said...

Chloe, I love a good mystery. I don't especially like violence and have a harder time with it when directed toward infants and children in books or movies. I think maybe one of the reasons I liked the books on a "A girl who..." is because in some ways, I identify with the main character.

Carol said...

I'm listening to this Medicare discussion on that Cenk Uygur Show about how the Repubs won't to dismantle it so they can squeeze a few more dollars out for their rich backers. I guess the Repubs certainly think this is no country for old men or old women for that matter. Oh, and many of thier base are over 65. Is the incidence of dementia getting much higher in the elderly??

Now I definitely think that Medicare has problems and that is that there are many in the healthcare industry milking it for all it's worth.

Seniors are already a hot bunch for being scammed and the healthcare industry is in line to take their share of it. I just don't know how we can change that without everyone being involved. When something isn't coming out of a person's pocket then they don't scruntinize it like they would if they had to pay for it. And many who need some of these healthcare programs aren't well enough to do it either.

Carol said...

Anyone ready for some dancing? I think they are dancing to a America themed song tonight.

Carol said...

Kendra will have to kick it up a knotch to stay in it this week. Heard she has a fun Fox Trot.

Carol said...

Somehow I think the boots and the blue jeans reined him in a bit this week.

Carol said...

Ralph that is.

Carol said...

Will Chris get that 8 he wants from Len?? Maybe.

Coreen said...

The wrestler Chris is growing on me...I agree
with Bruno...enjoyable...but the song choices
don't seem to go with the dances so far...

The Kid was ok, the song & dance & costume didn't seem to go together...

Carol said...

Ralph just ain't no cowboy.

Carol said...

Yes, I like Chris also and I'm not into the wrestler type.

Carol said...

He got that 8. I knew it!

Carol said...

I knew Len was playing with him.

Carol said...

Petra's dance looked tough.

Carol said...

It was so quick with so many switch ups.

Carol said...

Just not tripping over herself was a miracle.

Carol said...

Something about her doesn't turn me on but she did very well with that difficulty level.

Coreen said...

She did a nice job, the routine was very fast
& complicated...if she missed a step I didn't notice...

Carol said...

I do think the difficulty level should be considered in the score. I wonder if it will??

Carol said...

Well, only one out of three considered that difficulty level.

Carol said...

Next is one of my favs. Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?

Carol said...

One of your songs Coreen?

Coreen said...

Romeo's dance made me smile...very charming...

Carol said...

He is charming.

Coreen said...

You remember Carol...they play that song by
Frank Sinatra after every home game in the Stadium...A great song...

Carol said...

I member that Coreen.

Carol said...

He's not your typical rap star. Good for him!

Carol said...

I'm not as taken with Hines as you guys are.

Coreen said...

I do like Hines a lot...he's a natural at this dancing thing...

Carol said...

Did did well but the dancer didn't have much of a difficulty level.

Carol said...

The dance, this is.

Coreen said...

He is just smooth....

Carol said...

I can't type tonight. Better read between the lines.

Carol said...

Petra had the toughest dance and the worst scores. I guess they should keep it simple.

Coreen said...

Wow....nice score...

Carol said...

See, the dance with the lowest difficulty level and the best scores.

Coreen said...

Now that is great...Kirstie scores.....

Coreen said...

A standing "O" for Kirstie....now you had to love the 'dance doctor'...

Carol said...

Kirsty's outfits don't become her.

Carol said...

I did love the dance doctor. I thought the dance was milktoast.

Carol said...

I think they were judging Max's body. Not bad. I was kinda distracted by it also.

Carol said...

Kendra needs to shut up. Just demonstrates what Carrie Ann was saying.

Coreen said...

Do you think she is still a scientologist too...

What..she's how many pounds overweight & she did a good job moving it...hard to dress or undress like the other female dancers who
weigh like 100 pounds...

Carol said...

This and AI demonstrate that the evaluation of talent is often significantly influenced by personality.

Carol said...

But does she need to have her outfits focus on her gut??

Coreen said...

Kendra's dance was fun...she did a nice job...

Carol said...

Kendra is still a little stiff.

Carol said...

And her smile is also.

Carol said...

I feel her discomfort.

Coreen said...

Her personality or lack thereof comes through...I wouldn't miss her if she was off the show...

Carol said...

If you send out vibs of self consciousness, it will affect how people judge you.

Coreen said...

And I wouldn't miss Petra either...

Carol said...

I think she may be the next to go.

Carol said...

They ought to all take a course in how to win friends and influence people prior to the contest.

Coreen said...

Chelsea is definitely the best of the women
dancers...they have progressed significantly...

Carol said...

Chelsae knocks it out of the park.

Carol said...

Three 9s maybe??

jan said...

I am behind you guys on DWTS. We have seen the 1st 2 dances. I thought they did very well. I did think Chris, the wrestler, did very well. Boy, Len is very critical. I am going to start calling him "Simon" LOL.

Carol said...

Nope, not 9 from Len.

jan said...

I have not read your comments as yet. I will later.

Coreen said...

My fav is still Hines...& the guys are still the stronger dancers, but if there has to be
a woman in the finals...it shoud be Chelsea...

Carol said...

Coreen, you are testosterone biased.

Carol said...

Chelsea has evolved into the best dancer IMO. But she's cute and has the body and youth for it.

Carol said...

I also think you are a little athlete biased. You love those sport's stars.

Carol said...

Hines has a lot of fans.

Coreen said...

What...you forgeting...Don Johnson...my kinda
guy...sonny crockett...though his drinking
didn't help his aging gracefully...have you checked out my hawaii 5-0 fav...alex o'loughlin...he had a canceled show where he played a 'good' vampire...

jan said...

WOW! Max looks so sexy tonight. I couldn't take my eyes off him while they were dancing - sorry Kirstie!

jan said...

Hines is John's favorite too Coreen.

My fav guy is Romeo. Fav gal is Kirstie.

jan said...

"If you send out vibs of self consciousness, it will affect how people judge you."

Carol, unfortunate, but true.

This is interesting:

Carol said...

Another even more interesting article for our group:

Is Hell Dead?

Carol said...

That last article is packed with interesting stuff for pondering and I bet John would love to be in on it Jan.

Carol said...

Watch this and prepare to be mesmerized:

Time-Lapse Milky Way Video Captures Nature From A Unique Perspective

Carol said...

And almost as amazing:

Yo-Yo Ma And Lil' Buck Perform "The Swan"

Carol said...

OK..OK..I'll go to bed now.

Carol said...

OK..guys..this is from Pure DWTS. They are the critic pros.

"Hines & Kym – I think the judges must have literally just done some crack before watching this dance, because there was no way in hell it was “his best so far”, or even the best of the night. I thought it was his worst – he barely moved, and the little bit of moving he did do was awkward"

I totally agree..judges must be doing crack.

Carol said...

This link has some of the good poop on
DWTS. I check it out every week and have referred to it before:

Pure Dancing with the Stars

Carol said...

But I really didn't agree with their critiques of the other dances.

Carol said...

That tornado outbreak this weekend was really bad and killed over 40 people. What I've always found weird is that you will hear of these horrible storms and then very few people killed but not anymore. This is the season for that kind of weather so if you are in the path..keep your head down.

Carol said...

I think this Republican group of potential presidential candidates is going to make for some real comedy this year. And scary also.

Coreen..there are some things that Trump has said that I like but I think he is a total joke. And I'm not that impressed with his business success history.

So many of these rich people these days are making money because they have the deck stacked in their favor not because of any real skill. Rich begets rich.

Carol said...

If you haven't ever heard that Cenk Uygur on MSNBC..you ought to check him out. He's on our side. And he's easy on the eyes too.

Carol said...

That guy is outraged by the same things that outrage me!

Carol said...

And Dylan also. I first heard him on Dylan's show. I still love him.

Carol said...

Referring to that..Is Hell Dead..article..I don't buy into the concept that one must believe in Jesus to go to heaven or not go to hell. That is totally illogical/unfair.

I do believe that many who believe in Jesus may be more likely to buy into and live by his values. Some think that just their belief in Jesus is a get out of hell free card. Huh..I think that they might be unpleasantly surprised. About as logical as if we give more money to the rich..it will help everyone else. I think those who believe in the former also believe in the latter.

Now..I don't believe in a "heaven" and "hell" place. I believe we get both right here. The most logical/fair concept IMO would be that of karma..what goes around comes around. I'm voting for that one.

Carol said...

Well..hi ho..hi ho......

Have a great day.

Friday is Earth Day. Plan to celebrate nature.

jan said...

Carol, I agree - think the judges must have had moments of unonsciousness during Hines' dance. I thought it was terrible.

jan said...

Will watch the DWTS finals late tonight as we are going to a church thing.

BTW, John does not think there is a heaven and hell. He says there is no good evidence for hell.

jan said...

Jesus makes a reference to heaven in the new Testament, but it is not well described. Neither one is described in the bible. He says the concept of Hell is a greek concept not a hebrew one. He says Sheol is the Hebrew concept that has been translated to mean Hell, but what it means "literally is "a place for departed spirits" In the Apostles creed, it says "he was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into Hell.' The word used here is actually Sheol - which is really the place of departed spirits.

jan said...

All the above comes from John - my hubby - not the book of John in the Bible.

Carol said...

Thank hubby of John for his input Jan. And do you have any more trip pics. We're going to be out of space soon. Still have the DWTS to bitch about later.

Carol said...

Some research found that saying those bad words..has a pain relief effect. I don't think it worked by saying ratty poo. I think it has to be one of those full throttle words..like the F bomb. I'm choicy when I use that word but I do feel a little endorphin release when I do.

I heard this reported several times over the last few days. I wanted to see where it came from so I googled it. What I found is from research that is almost 2 years old. Sure takes a while for that to hit the MSM.

Carol said...

Coreen, the Donald seems to be reinventing himself by the day. He's really starting to turn my stomach. He used to be pro choice, but like many of the pro choice people, he didn't favor abortion but just felt like it should be a choice. Today he says he is pro life, the reason he explains is because one of his rich friends, who didn't want a baby, had one and the baby is the apple of his eye. What a bunch of hooie.

Does he think the American people are a bunch of idiots?? Probably. I don't think most conservatives give a fat, flying F about abortion, it's just a bone they throw to the religious right.

Coreen said...

Carol, Donald Trump is doing what Donald Trump
does...promote himself....He has spent his life
promoting himself...& surprise, surprise after
all the downsides,(that are gleefully being
dredged up today by MSNBC in particular) guess what...he's still standing...& like it or not, doing pretty well at it...

The fact that suddenly the fringes of both parties are on full attack, suggests strongly
they feel some threat from his possible running...though I still don't believe he will...

MSNBC is in full battle mode attacking him, caught about 5 secondes of Matthews ranting, spitting with Joan from Salon? carrying the water for the liberal side, while the club for growth is in attack mode on the right....interesting & which gives me pause to wonder why are both sides in panic mode about a guy that they all keep saying can't win...

If he turns your stomach, what about Arianna Huffington, whose site you regularly
refer too...she who has been whining & wringing her hands about the 'rich' screwing everyone else....but in the end...in a nanosecond she took the $350 million & ran....
talk about a stomach turning hypocrite...

Have no idea whether Trump thinks the American
people are idiots or not, he probably does not, but figures he can convince them he's their guy, maybe he can, now wouldn't that be a kick in the head to all the 'real' pols....

As far as I'm concerned BOTH sides are equally guilty of exploiting whoever they can, not just conservatives or republicans...

They continue to be the opposite sides of the same coin...

Both sides want the same thing... power & control...

Carol said...

Coreen, Huff Post is an easy place to get a variety of news online. And now they are tied to AOL where I have my email. My last few links came from AOL. I did boycott Huff Post back when our Hill was running. I didn't like how many there treated our Hill.

I'm bitching about Donald cuz that's all I hear about on the dang news now. He's acting like he's serious about running.

Coreen said...

My question to Donald Trump would be....WHY...
his Trump brand is everywhere, he doesn't need
the power, he like so many ultra rich are
insulated from much so what effects most people...sp what's in it for him,
that's why I don't buy it....

Coreen said...

We need a new post Carol...do you have any
pics of Magster or the Camp, maybe a calm
serene river ride for us....

And I still like Hines best...

Carol said...

Don't have anything new right now Coreen. I've been busy feeding and watering my potted veggies. I figured Jan would still have more pics of her vacation.

It was hot and humid out today. And a gale force wind. We are still very dry. No chance of rain in our near future.

Carol said...

I think it is a ego thing with Donald. You know politics doesn't have to make any sense.

Carol said...

No more pics of the Spring thaw up your way Coreen?

Carol said...

They have pics on the news tonight of our damaged ecosystems of the islands off the coast of Louisiana. Very sad. You don't hear much about it on the national news anymore.

Coreen said...

Nothing new, should have taken my camera with me today, since suddenly forsythia was in bloom everywhere...

New post of mystery pics for you to figure out...
