How to avoid being an alligator Hors D'oeuvre

Until Chloe gets her Easter pics ready I am going to explain to Coreen why I don't worry too much about Allie gator getting my Maggie girl.

This morning I was enjoying my coffee on my porch when I eyeballed this teenage equivilent gator cruising the hood. I guess he needed to get an early start before all the people started roughing up the waterway. He better run for cover because the river will be getting very busy soon.

First pic is the gator heading out. He was headed this way but I gave him the evil eye and I can be intimidating. Just ask some of my old students. The second pic is where I usually walk Maggie at night. If you notice, that gator would have to be a gymnist to get past those wharves. The third pic is where Maggie wants to go at night. Very dark over there and now that the neighbor is working on a boat slip, it will be easy access for Allie. I do not let Maggie drag me over there. So don't worry Coreen, we will be OK.

HAPPY EARTH DAY

FYI, I read somewhere that Idol was considering changing the way voting is done on AI next season. I second the motion there. I think it may include less total votes per person and allowing the judges some influence in the vote like with DWTS. I think that this resulted from the big dissappointment after Pia got voted off.

Let me introduce to my potted plants, no pot plants, just potted plants. From left to right, they are strawberry, grape tomato, oregeno, basil, parsley, strawberry, cuc behind the strawberry and bell pepper. I have others but not in the pic.

And Chloe, I suspect you might already have some of those school party pics and we are expecting those before the others. You know it only takes a few minutes to get them up. And I'm tapping my foot over here...waiting.

Carol, love the title of your post. You are so creative with words - and other ways too.

Chloe, I did not notice any spelling errors. You are among friends. I think we are each harder on ourselves -Except Carol - she has always been hard on me as well as herself- poor me- LOL.

Love your pics Carol. It is great being able to picture you there in your little "down by the riverside" home. Even with the gators.

How am I hard on you Jan? I'm not aware that I was.

I agree with Chloe - that you seem to be happier in the spring and summer than fall Carol. I too get sort of despondent around my birthday. Think of turning 70??? big bummer. As my dad got older, he would always say " I am just glad to be around another year."

Hi Carol, didn't know you were around. I thought I would have to wait a few hours before I would hear from you on that. I am referring to years ago. You would not let me get away with anything. I was watching a rerun of Oprah last night and she and her best friend Gayle were talking and were saying how - your best friend is honest with you. You were always honest with me - even if it hurt sometimes.

Carol said...

Hey Jan, you are one of the smartest people I know and I gave you credit for everything I've accomplished.

jan said...

Carol, I know that. I was talking about those years when I lived in LC and spent lots of time together.

Carol said...

I bet I never knew I was doing it Jan. You should have said something. Probably some of mom's yankee blood infiltrated me too.

jan said...

Carol, you accomplished what you did because you are smart and you had a drive to achieve. Look at what you have done. I didn't have anything to do with that - other than be your friend.

Carol said...

And maybe you were a tad paranoid?

jan said...

You have always been honest with whoever you were around Carol. I don't think you could be any other way. I think that is one of the reasons I loved being with you. I like for people to be honest with me.

jan said...

Paranoid about what?

Carol said...

Nope Jan, I think I've made it pretty clear here that it was your encouragement and suggestion that directed me toward just about everything I've done in my career. You started me down my path and I just followed the yellow brick road.

Carol said...

I have no memory of ever being hard on you. Could be repressed?

Carol said...

I do sometimes intimidate people..like I did that gator today.

Carol, I am talking about all the personal issues we dealt with all those years ago. We talked a lot and you always let me know how you felt. Maybe saying "you were hard on me" was putting it in a negative way. You always told me the truth about how you felt and how you felt if I was doing something you disagreed with. I may not have liked it at the time, but I always know you were honest because you cared about me.

You were my Oprah Jan. Did you see that show?

jan said...

Yes I did see that show - it was on last night. It is great to see 2 friends who have been and remained friends for all those years. You know they had to have had some disagreements sometimes though. The show I saw last night was how Stedman talked about their friendship and that he cared about Gayle too.

jan said...

I think we had this conversation once before.

Carol said...

Did you see their camping trip? They were pretty honest with one another. It was funny.

jan said...

No I did not see that. I wonder if it is on Youtube?

Carol said...

They had several shows about their camping in the National Parks together. Oprah did most of the cooking and waited on Gayle. Gayle didn't take too well to the outdoor life.

jan said...

I went into youtube and found a couple of short videos on their camping trip. I will have to see if I can find more.

I still remember that camping trip we took with Bill and his friends. I wish we had a video of that. It was a fun trip. Bill still remembers it. He does not talk about it much because he never talks about previous girlfriends around his wife.

I did see a video of Oprah and Gayle setting up their popup. they had all these people around them to help them out when they could not do something. That is so not real.

Well, I have to run - and get to the pool. It will not be open sat and sun and I need the swim. See ya later alligator - whoops maybe not a good thing to say.

Rut rho..looks like LiLo got 4 months in jail and 3 more of community service. Easier than what the average..average person would have gotten. Her community service will be at the Downtown Women's Center and at the LA county morgue. Even I couldn't handle that morgue gig.

That community service time might do her more good than the other.

Chloe..I'm glad you decided to go read Mr. Scotiman's blog. I didn't mean to scare you off from it. It was sad though thinking about how someone could just throw away a dog or any other animal.

Maggie is the only dog I got that way but I've had a many a cat show up at my house or I picked them up on the side of the road. I think I told you that my Vet used to have a large file just for my cats over the years..he listed them as lucky cat and a number. That was before they were given a name. I did have two cats that lived 21 years.

One of those long lived cats..Smokie.. I found at Western Sizzlin in a flower bed and the other..Tiger.. was the offspring of a little kitty..Touts.. I found at my SF and mom's place. She still had the afterbirth on her when I found her. I think something killed her mama. I had to bottle feed her. I was teaching at the time and I carried that kitty to work with me and plugged in a heating pad everywhere I went. I had to bottle feed her every hour or so.

I was doing these end of the semester practicum exams at the time. I think the students were less intimidated that semester because I was a little distracted by feeding my little kitty while I graded their performance.

The word might have gotten around because it was right after that when all the cats started showing up at my place. Hmmmm.

Carol, What a wonderful story that was (with my required 'happy ending) about how tenderly you cared for those little little kittens when they were alone in the world. I didn't think you liked cats that much. It's very hard to keep them alive when they lose their mother so young (and almost impossible at birth). 21 years is an unusually long time for one to live .... for one, yet alone two.

I have so many stories I look back on too, but also have the more pain than I care to look back on in order to tell them. I've loved every animal I've ever been involved with as much as I could have loved any baby.

Thanks for starting my day with that memory.
