Maggie's tent.

We were in a hurry for a new post because with our live blogging..we were out of room. This was a little rushed since it was time for both of our bedtimes. Good thing her tent just pops up. She was a little confused as to why she was going to be camping tonight. She was also hoping that it wasn't going to be outside considering the weird noise we heard out there tonight.

That is just too cool Carol...& is that her own
pillow inside....

Did Maggie just say...no way lady...I'm outahere...

Jan, you must have seen the rest of the dancers by now...what's your verdict...

jan said...

Love the pics Carol. I was wondering what the tent looked like. Maggie does look a little confused. I think the tent for her is a great idea. When you are planning on leaving her now, you can put up the tent a few days before you are going to leave her and she will feel at home once she is in another place as she has her own little home.

Carol said...

She was looking back at the window Coreen and saying..I'm not going back outside tonight.

jan said...

I agree Coreen, I like the guys best this season. Of the women Kirstie is my fav. She has a great personality and is a good dancer. I think Hines did the best. Petra did do a beautiful waltz. That is probably going to be her best dance. With her past pelvic injuries she is going to have trouble with most other dances.

Carol said...

Jan..she did stay in this tent when she went to doggie camp. I put it in the large kennel she stayed in. The lady who kept her said she really loved it.

Carol said...

I think it will be Wendy who goes next and the maybe Sugar Ray. Sorry John.

jan said...

I am off to bed. I have the last book in the "The Girl with the Dragon Tatool - series" I read the first two - could not wait to get the 3rd and last book.

Carol said...

Nite guys..thanks for the entertainment tonight.

jan said...

Carol, I don't think John cares at this point. He recognizes that SR is not doing well. We both feel Wendy and SR will be the next to go.

jan said...

Me too! Sleep well.

jan said...

One mre thing.

We are watching Anderson Cooper. He has had the Libyan woman on who says she was raped by Gadhafi's group. I am wondering how she is being allowed to speak now.

Coreen said...

Seems we are all in agreement about the DWTS
celebs this season...

Jan, the girl with... books that you have read
did you find that there was a lot of violence
in them...I have hesitated to order them
because of what I was told...

Could you give a quick review...(Not tonight, I know it's getting late)I know they have been
wildly popular for a long time...

Now that I have a Kindle, it is soo easy to
get a book, anytime...I like fiction, mystery, light summer reading chic-lit books...

And yes the UCONN men are the NCAA champions...

So my friends are really happy....

It's pumpkin time...so night to all...

Carol said...

Jan..I haven't seen the news in several days. Trying to really take a break from it but I know who you are talking about. Cooper has been covering that situation/lady for a while now.

I thought that lady would be history by now. Those people don't tolerate that kind of stuff. That's why is doesn't make sense to me. A woman can get raped and they will kill her because she is an embarassment to the community and her family.

I just couldn't watch that any more. I was stressing over her. I thought I heard that the lady was from a prominent family. I'm glad to know she is not dead yet and in line for a good stoning.

Also..the woman's mama said on TV that she wanted to take Daffy's head off and serve it on a platter. (yeah..I know that's not how to spell his name but there are too many spelling and I get confused.)

In the US..you can't make verbal threats against our president or you go to jail. I've seen two people in jail for having done that and I don't think either would have ever done anything cuz they were a little on the nuts side...

Also I pondered whether some of this stuff is being shown to manipulate our sympathy?? Make us tolerate our spending cazillions to bomb countries?? Have you ever pondered that??

Carol said...

One of the missions of the media is to manipulate us. Don't ever forget that. Just remember who owns the media. They throw in a nasty comment occasionally to throw us off the scent.

Last night.. on one of the comedy news shows they were saying that some of the execs from the company that owns that BP rig.. that killed those 11 people and raped our Gulf..got huge bonuses. And they got awards for safety. Makes your head want to explode. I blame that on our government. Seems the bigger the criminal..they more likely they are to get an award or bonus. It's an effed up world we live in.

Carol said...

We go after all these other countries that do things that we don't like but what's going on right here..under our our fat sassy noses..is pretty terrible. Don't make much sense to me. Maybe the difference is that we aren't hungry and most of them are. We just eat our way into tolerance.

Carol said...

Coreen..I don't know about those books that Jan is reading but one of the movies I saw was very sexually violent. Made it hard to get thru.

Carol said...

http://wonkette.com/442085/bp-resumes-drilling-in-the-gulf-oil-rig-executives-receive-safety-bonuses

"Transocean awarded its top executives with six figure bonuses, because under their shining leadership the company experienced its “best year in safety performance.” Yes, “safety bonuses” for the executives in charge of the oil rig that exploded and then spilled 200 million gallons of oil into the ocean, killing eleven people, all the baby dolphins and everything else that lives in/near the Gulf."

Just in case you thought I was joking..

Carol said...

And remember that many in the media were..want to be..or are related to..a politician. It's a racket people.

Carol said...

There's nothing screwier than the fact that the rich have never gotten richer than they have recently with the help of our government(us) and they want to take more from the elderly and poor.

Love the pictures of Maggie in her little tent, Carol. Don't know how she could be any cuter.

I have a couple of those tents (like your red one better though). I found that they don't work well for cats, because one will get in, and the other will jump on top of it - then it collapses on the one inside. Cats are impossible.

" What strange weather. When we got back from our trip, the hi temps were in 80's. Last night the low was 34 and today the hi is 65. I never know what to wear any more."
Jan, I'm having the same problem here. It was 37 this morning (I noticed it was only 54 in Houston, but we're further north) and it will be 75 later today. I most worry about how to dress Emma to go off to school. The only answer is layers. Today I put her little light weight sweat pants on her, which I almost packed up to give away with the rest of her winter clothes the other day -- glad I waited.

"I pondered whether some of this stuff is being shown to manipulate our sympathy?? Make us tolerate our spending gazillions to bomb countries?? Have you ever pondered that?"

I'd say 'undoubtedly', Carol.
The manipulation never stops.

"The swamp has a lot of mysteries. I think they said that on Swamp People. One of those guys mentioned that he wouldn't want to know what makes some of the noises in the swamp at night. "

When we first moved out here in the woods (it's becoming less the woods as they keep building every direction around us), I remember my daughter, Amy, sitting out at the top of our porch steps, right out the front door (it was very dark, no street lights here) and saying: Mama, 'I'm hearing a sound out here I'm not supposed to be hearing'. I've never forgotten how that made me smile, and mostly because it was so true. I didn't recognize a lot of the sounds either, and still don't. I've never loved anyplace as much as I love living here surrounded by my baracade of tree's, and the unusual sounds we hear at night.

To add to it, some people down the street have peacocks, and you know the sounds they can make. The people to our left have a donkey, and it's quite a distance away, but man when that thing starts up, they are so loud, and they sound like they're in great distress. I find that sound so disturbing sometimes, because it sounds like the poor animal is in great pain (but I know she/he is probably just complaining because dinner is late). Glad I rarely hear it any more, but when I do, it always startles me.

There are sometimes still sounds though, that I just can't make out. I know it must be much more so living on a river. Living on the water adds to the large array of species out there in the wild.

Anonymous said...

Carol, that comment up above should have said 'I like your red one better though' (mine are blue).

... it would probably do me some good to proof read ahead of hitting post comment. But hopefully you guys usually get the general idea of what I'm trying to say. Communication sure can be difficult at times. And here, once it's submitted, it's so permanent.

Anonymous said...

" John will do pretty much what I want as far as meals. I could never live with someone who expected me to cook meals. I do it when I want. He does not cook."

Jan, Mine will cook if there's something special he wants to make us, I cook about as often (or a little more) than he, but never feel pressured to do so.
We do go out to lots of meals -- usually snack in the evening or have a salad, instead of a traditional dinner. We're big on lunch instead (when possible).

Except for Emma, of course. She also gets a hearty evening meal. She's never been a big eater though, and I often have to offer her several things before she'll eat enough to satisfy me. She's still only about 23.5 lbs. Small for her age (but not from lack of eating - she's so hyper), but doesn't look too thin, just petite. I don't think she's going to be any bigger than me, at 5'3".

Anonymous said...

Woo -- I had a lot of catching up to do on the comments.

I've talked too much -- and now must hit the road.

Great day everyone!

Carol said...

I don't mind if someone wants to help with the kitchen clean up but I'm a little hoggie with the cooking so it's a good thing Maggie doesn't even try to compete with me.

And yes Chloe, the woods do seem to come alive at night. I'm still researching the new sound to try to figure out what made it. I should have had my flashlight with me. My porch light doesn't go far enough to see what's in the water.

Carol said...

And Chloe, you guys never talk too much, not enough actually. I love it when I come home or get up in the morning and have something new to read.

Carol said...

You guys never have to worry about my not being careful. In my old age I'm way over careful because I know I can't run fast anymore.

Coreen said...

Just caught a bit of Wendy Williams show again...

I'm getting to like her persona very much...seems her DWTS partner Tony is a sweetheart & today she had Susan Lucci on who also danced with Tony on DWTS...Lucci was there hawking a 'memoir' she wrote & Wendy & her spoke about how very nice Tony is...then the surprise Wendy had Tony come out & do a quick dip with Lucci...

Now I hope she is not voted off...guess that leaves Sugar Ray....

Wonder if Wendy has a strong fan base that will
vote for her...the audience at her show is virtually all women...& she still is wearing that huge mirror ball ring....

Carol said...

Coreen, I hate to see any of them go on DWTS or on AI but that's how it works. I think Wendy is at the bottom in talent and might not have as much of a fan base as Sugar Ray. Wendy's fan base is more with people who have heard of her, in larger market areas whereas SR is all over the US. I'd be surprised if she isn't the one to go down tonight.

I heard an interview with Max about the fall last night and he's such a gentleman in talking about it. Nothing to indicate that he had quite a load bearing on that left thigh during that one legged squat. He's was not happy that his fall took attention away from Kirsty's and some of the other dancers.

I always liked his booty but now like the rest of him as much.

Carol said...

Anyone home?

From Pure Dancing with the Stars:

2. Petra 25 11.68
3. Chelsea 23 10.75
4. Kendra 23 10.75
5. Ralph 21 9.81
6. Kirstie 21 9.81
7. Chris 21 9.81
8. Romeo 20 9.35
9. Sugar Ray 20 9.35
10. Wendy 15 7.01

Well a surprise right from the get go. SR is safe.

Carol said...

That won't bid good for your new BFF Wendy, Coreen.

Carol said...

Coreen, your boys are 4 runs ahead so you can leave them for a minute.

Carol said...

Rut rho, looks like the Twinkies got a run. I guess you can't look away yet.

Carol said...

If anyone is insulted by my calling them the Twinkies, it's Coreen's fault. She taught me.

Coreen said...

Are you kidding me...in a heartbeat the score is tied...walks, & a blop single ties the game...we do not like this...

Carol said...

Rut rho, Twinkies got three more runs and tied the score. Coreen is probably having a meltdown.

Coreen said...

Where is DWTS, if Sugar is safe, it has to be
Wendy, who else is left...

Coreen said...

How are you following the game Carol...I have it on YES...

Coreen said...

Not to upset, its far to early in the season,
so many games to play, but CC cruised through
7 innings & how quickly it can turn...but an
not a happy camper...

Carol said...

I'm following that gameday. They no longer have a stick man to watch, it's a real guy but he still doesn't move. They dressed it up and confused me. I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Carol said...

Kendra is also in jeopardy.

Carol said...

Chris is in jeopardy??

Carol said...

overtime..

Coreen said...

Well no surprises....Wendy's got a real good
attitude, that shows up in her show....

Carol said...

Well, lots of drama for nooo surprise.

Coreen said...

By the way, it is pretty chilly tonight, it rained until late afternoon...in the Stadium they are all bundled up & not nearly a full house...

Coreen said...

Well, the twinkies just took the lead, that's what happens when you walk people...going to the bullpen...

the only great thing about baseball, no matter
what happens, there is another game tomorrow...

So see you later...

I was talking to my neighbor who lives on the side where I heard the weird noise last night. I was describing the sound and he wasn't sure what it was I heard either. I listened to sounds of both the beaver and the gator online and couldn't find either with that particular sound.

Later when he was bailing out a friends boat he noticed some beaver damage on one of his trees right where I heard the noise. I think that might mean that it was a beaver making the noise. Less scary than the gator option but more destructive to our trees.

Carol said...

Which team in your league is your biggest threat?

Carol said...

I asked neighbor guy that now that that beav has a taste for his tree..what's he gonna do to keep it from finishing it off. If it eats all the bark off the bottom of the tree..it kills the tree. He said that Houseboat Brenda said to pee on it. Interesting concept. I decided it might be time for me to give him a little privacy time with his tree.

I sure hope that beav doesn't start gnawing on any my trees cuz it won't be easy for either Maggie of me to pee on our trees.

Carol said...

I wonder if there will be any long term consequences to the release of all that radioactive water into the ocean?? It may be more important that ever to watch where our food comes from..especially for children!

jan said...

No surprises in DWTS. Wendy seems like a lovely person - lots of grace in her response.

jan said...

Wendy got in a little advertising for her show - good for her.

I do believe that many people are judged based on personality. Kirstie has a great personality.

Carol said...

Yes Jan..now Wendy can cover the results of the rest of DWTS on her radio show and I bet she will have a lot of sympathy for them now that she knows how tough it is.

Carol said...

I woke up with a scary though. What if..next year we have President Trump. I can certainly see him winning the Repub primary. I don't think any of the usual players on that team have a prayer. And you know how people are here..just give them a popular familiar name and it can happen.

Coreen, you were asking about the series "The girl..." Several good friends read and recommended it. I saw the 1st 2 movies before the books. Some scenes in the movies were hard for me to watch. I like the books better. He is a great storyteller. I sometimes get lost in the details and names, but his building of the main characters is great. Again, I think he is a good storyteller and I love a good mystery. I found the scenes in the movies were hard to watch, but I didn't find the book so difficult when it came to those scenes. I suppose, my brain is protective when reading something, yet when seeing the same content on the screen, I am bothered. That would be a good topic for research.

The 1st 2 books are in paperback and last one will be in June. I don't have an e-reader yet. I would recommend buying the 1st one and wait to buy 2nd or 3rd to see if you like it.

jan said...

I have been very busy with work last 2 days. Will catch up and write later.

Carol said...

I agree Jan. I have more trouble seeing something horrible than reading about it.

I found the girl with the tattoo story so interesting that I did manage to get thru the violent sex scenes, closed my eyes and ears, and to I read all those subtitles.

Carol said...

I read this morning, on Huff Post, that the White House considers Sarah Raskin and former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm To Head Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Why not our hero Elizabeth Warren??? Because they are afraid that those who she would be regulating may not be happy with her nomination. I say that's a good sign we got the right one!

Heard this afternoon on Ratigan that Granholm was not interested in the position and she tweeted that nominating Warren would be a fight worth having. Atta girl Ms. Granholm.

Obama is such a wussy! Sure let's have the people who need to be regulated pick who they like best! Dylan actually said that Obama really doesn't want a fight, he's with the bankers. I think he's right. Obama has sold his soul. Not even sure he ever had one.
Man up President Obama. Stop acting so Republican.

Ratigan often has on this guy, Cenk Uygur. Dylan calls him the young Turk. He impresses me as much as Dylan does. He sometimes guest hosts for some the the anchors on MSNBC. If you see him on, give him a listen. That guy makes such good sense.

Carol said...

Well it looks like Fox is finally losing Glen Beck. Bout time. What is really scary is that he was extremely popular. What does that tell us??

Coreen said...

Thanks for your views on the girl who books,
Jan...I will add the first to the kindle & then
go from there...

Most reviews of the series suggest to start from the beginning as you said...

Coreen said...

Carol, you asked which team might be the biggest threat to the Yankees...all of the teams in the East until the season is over...

Who would ever have thought the Os would be
4-0 & the Red Sox 0-4...but a long time left...

The Yankees arch-rival is the Red Sox...the only team I really want to see lose...but on paper they are supposed to be the best there is...& they will probably win 95 games by the
end of the season...so they are likely the biggest threat to my team...

Coreen said...

And about Donald Trump, know you won't like this but here goes...I would certainly consider him if indeed he is serious about running...he may do some strange things, have a tremendous ego...but he is a survivor...he has managed to rebound repeatedly
when everyone buried him...

Since the crop of candidates including Obama
are so woefully lacking in any leadership qualities, I would welcome a person with some
real world experience...

That said, I would be more than mildly surprised if Trump actually runs, he seems much
to independent to be able to function in the
cesspool known as politics...I don't see him
compromising which is afterall what all politicians do in the end...

Coreen said...

Just add not nominating Warren to the CFPB to the list of Obama failures...

Obama wants one thing... to be re-elected & will do or not do whatever it takes to win...

At this point I see no one who could beat him
& regardless of how ineffective he is at his
'job' he likely will not be a one-term president like Carter...

Carol said...

We can discuss some of what you said later Coreen but now it's time to brush aside all the political foolishness and get to some serious business...judging the singers.

Carol said...

I still like Jacob.

Carol said...

Haley did a pretty darn good Janis. And Jen knows prison lingo. She said Haley would be around for a "minute". That's prison for a good while.

Coreen said...

Both of these singers did a really nice job on
their versions...

Don't have any guide to judge whether they should stay or go...

Do you think that these judges are less critical of these kids, since they are in fact
entertainers, unlike Simon who was a promoter
& did not have to struggle to make it as a
singer...

Coreen said...

Guess that may be why she referred to herself
as Jenny from the 'hood...would suspect that
it would be street talk as well as prison lingo...

Carol said...

A slightly different dimension to Casey tonight. Liked it.

Carol said...

Dang it, I like them all. I like this music!

Carol said...

Lauren is doing a great job with Natural Woman.

Carol said...

I also liked seeing a different dimension to James.

Carol said...

Yes, Coreen that is "hood" talk. I can talk "hood" now. I'm an honorary member of the "hood".

Carol said...

That's our little Scotty Elvis.

Carol said...

Did you like that one Coreen? You're a big Elvis fan, aren't you?

Carol said...

Scotty must have been channeling Elvis since those girls came running up on stage.

Coreen said...

They are all singing well...so far I have no
preference for any of them...

Elvis was truly wonderful...still love Kentucky
Rain the best...

Carol said...

Wow, that Pia is good, pretty and even has very nice teeth.

Coreen said...

Just heard the winner...Pia...none of the others has as strong, clear voice as she has...

Carol said...

Yep, she's the one to try to beat. But they do have some fine talent in this contest. A very enjoyable season.

Carol said...

I'm not sure they can top this season.

Carol said...

I'm wondering if Simon is sorry he missed it.

Carol said...

The neighbor told me there was this huge dead alligator up river a little way. It was out floating. I went to see it. It was as big as any they had on Swamp People. Don't know how it met it's demise. I'm certainly glad I knew about it because it should be floating this way and if I went out to walk Maggie later and saw that...I'd certainly have a heart attack.

Carol said...

It's gonna be a tough decision tonight.

Coreen said...

I would not like to live in such close proximity to alligators...actually, I would not live in such an area...

Did you explain how your wharf protects you from them getting up on land where you walk...
is it because it is high & they could not get
up on land because of it...

Coreen said...

But can't an alligator get on land from some
other place near your property...like a neighbor's or do they not walk very far from
water...

Sorry but the alligator thing is just scary...

Coreen said...

If Pia does not win it all, there is no justice...all the singers are good, but she
is simply much better...

Carol said...

I'm still not that crazy about Paul's voice. Sorry. He is a overall good preformer though.

Carol said...

Sorry about that spelling.

Carol said...

Coreen, a gator couldn't jump up onto the wharf but could crawl up on shore over to the side of my wharf. It would't come to where I walk Maggie at night. I do walk Maggie in areas where one could come up but when I do, I keep my eyes on the water.

Last summer when the little ducks were hanging out around here, there was a young gator with it's eyes on those little ducks. I was up on my deck but saw those little ducks all looking at the water with a nervous look in their little eyes. They knew it was out there and when I looked, all I could see were the gator's eyes barely above the water.

Carol said...

I tried to add a pic of that dead gator to the blog post but my connection is very slow tonight and I got tired of waiting.

Carol said...

Coreen, your Yanks have a rain delay? They were suppose to be on ESPN but their showing another game now.

Coreen said...

Carol, just your description of how very close
they are makes me cringe...no way would I ever fell comfortable...

Yanks game was postponed...they are scheduled
to play again tomorrow at 1 pm, not sure if they decided to add a 2nd game to make it up...but it supposed to rain again tomorrow...
seems the twinks aren't returning to the stadium this year so re-scheduling is a problem...

Coreen said...

No 2nd game, since both teams are traveling to play friday...don't know when the makeup game
will be scheduled...

Carol said...

My neighbors, who very seldom come out here because I don't think they have everything in their camp yet that they need to stay out here, are going to put in a boat launch. That will be very convenient for me to get my boats in and out.

Carol said...

Coreen, it's not very often that I see any gators around this area. They hang out in some of the back waters and cuts. They aren't real social and that's just fine with me. People are out there swimming and skiing but you wouldn't catch me doing that anymore. I would if I was still a youngster.

jan said...

Just started watching Idol. Had taped it so I could get in a walk before dark.

Jacob did great.

Carol said...

I am looking forward to opening up my pool. I have that heavy duty stretch cover on it that an elephant is suppose to be able to walk on without falling thru. That will be a nice change from previous years.

This is the time of year when all that stuff falls from my huge Live Oak tree. It was such a mess every year. I invested a lot in that pool cover last fall but it will be worth it to have a nice clean pool this year. I usually don't like to start swimming until the pool water gets to about mid 80s.

Carol said...

There's some great music tonight Jan. Enjoy.

Carol said...

Where's the Chlomister today?? Hope she and her fly are OK.

Carol said...

A few thoughts about Donald Trump. Besides having 365 bad hair days..he was born into a family with lots of money so he didn't have to start from scratch.

He is a successful business man but has declared bankruptcy at least twice. I like some of his ideas about China but I don't think he'd make a good president. Maybe we can't get any worse than we've had though.

jan said...

Wow! tonight was one of the best Idol nights of all time. This is the best talent on the show ever.
My favorites are still Pia, James and Casey but they all sang their hearts out.

jan said...

Idol is so much more fun that before. I think the judges are encouraging. There is a whole new feeling.

jan said...

Scotty did great too. He did Elvis proud. I love the picture of Scotty as a kid with the Elvis suit on. His mom once said that when he went trick or treating at Halloween and people gave him treats, he would say "thank you, thank you very much." He has a humility that is so sweet.

Carol said...

Who will get voted off on AI this week? I really don't know. I like all of them. Some who have great voices..aren't as good at the overall performance..ie Pia. And some who are great performers..don't have the greatest voices.ie Paul. I'm not sure what is more important for an American Idol?? What do you think??

"... an angel from the other side sent into my life to keep me humble and hopping"

Hi everyone.
I finally got over to the Scottie site to catch up on the last two weeks. I was surprised that he mentioned donkey's on the one before last (since I was talking here the other day how loud and distressed they can sound at times (the one down the road actually sounds like it's dying sometimes). The calf we had a long while back was the same way about getting through fences. There was not fence he couldn't eventually knock down or walk through. We had one horse like that too. It can be a real pain, and once they get out they never stop trying.

We now keep our horses supplied with one of those great big round bales, so they won't get too hungry and decide to break down a fence to get up here to greener pastures. Normally, horses won't even try to go beyond their boundaries, not even test them - unless they get too hungry and their meal isn't served on time. Then one will find a way, and the others will follow.

Regarding the quote above, I've never thought of it that way. Do yo think it's intentional that things keep happening in our lives that keep us humble and hopping? It sure seems like it.

Coreen, I noticed the Loctite Stick 'N Seal I bought at Target today was from your beloved Connecticut. Rocky Hill, CT. Figure it can't be all that far from you, since it's a small state. They sell tons of the Loctite brand stuff in the stores here.

jan said...

I am afraid to make predictions as to who will go home this week. I sure thought Paul went home last week. I must have dreamed it. I hope we don't lose one of the girls. We are down to 3 girls and 6 guys. I think its anyone's guess.

jan said...

I have something I want to tell my friends here.

I talked with my sister a day or two after her 1st husb died. She said the next night she dreamed about him or rather his 'Mind came to her" and said "where am I" She said she told him "you have passed away" and he said again, "where am I" and she said "I think you are in the funeral home" She told me a conversation of sorts continued but she could not remember anything else. I used the word dreamed but she said it was not truly a dream and they did not actually talk to each other and she did not see him. She said the communication was not verbal.

I just thought this was very interesting.

jan said...

My sister did go see him in the hospital while their children were there. He was unconscious and she went up and touched his arm and said "its Jeannie" She said she talked to him for a minute or so and she said a tear fell down his cheek. They have been divorced for years and both had remarried and his wife died about 6 or 7 years ago.

I don't think these things are intentional, but I do believe we influence these things without them being intentional.

Coreen said...

Let's see...AI...only really listened to each contestant last night...they were all good...but based on that performance alone...
the only one that absolutely should not be
voted off is Pia...beyond that any of the rest
could be the unlucky one...

Coreen said...

Chloe, sorry don't know anything about Loctite or if that is a CT corp, but Rocky Hill is outside of Hartford, about an hour+ north...you can drive just about anywhere in CT
in a couple of hours...

Coreen said...

As for Donald Trump & the 'bankruptcy issue'...
For some reason the fact that his companies
filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the past has
morphed into the belief that he personally filed bankruptcy, which has not happened...

Beyond that, whether he would be a 'good' president/leader is something that voters would
have to decide....that said, still don't really
think he would run, but if he does...fine with
me...gives another dimension to the woefully inadequate group including Obama that are out there now...

Carol said...

Guys, I just went to a Idol news blog and they had a vote on who would go home tonight. This was the order in their vote: Stephano, Jacob, then Paul.

The article written with this vote said that if there are any women in the bottom three tonight then it will seem that Idol has a problem with women. Well, I think the world still has a problem with women. What's really sad and ironic is that women have a problem with women. Women are sometimes their own worst enemies.

jan said...

Carol, Interesting about the Idol new blog. I thought the ones who did best last night were in my order: Pia, James, Casey, Lauren, Scottie, Kaley, Stephano, Jacob, Paul

jan said...

I don't think Scottie is as good a performer or singer as most of them, but he is soooo cute. I just want to hug him - like the girls who ran up on the stage last night. I think he definitely will have a career in country. He is like the old time country singers, before country became pop-country.

jan said...

Chloe, I went over the The Great Scot's blog to see what is going on there. I enjoyed reading about witches in NM. I had not heard that before. I have heard of the wailing woman La Llorana. Enjoyed reading about his donkey too. Thanks for reminding us here to check this out.

Carol said...

Today I saw an Indigo Bunting. They come thru the first two weeks of April each year. I only see a few each year but I think they are my very favorite bird. They wear my favorite color, teal blue.

http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Indigo_Bunting/lifehistory

Carol said...

Jan, I'll ditto your ranking rating.

Carol said...

Well, no surprise with the first one in the bottom three.

Carol said...

Something screwy going on here! Jan, you won't believe it....

Carol said...

Just like in Wisconsin, someone been screwing with the voting machines or the count. Some of us are in opposite positions for some of them but that singer is one who we all agree on.

Carol said...

I guess I'll have to start voting. Can't trust America to get it right.

Carol said...

There must be something wrong.

Carol said...

Everyone is in shock!

Carol said...

I bet the judges wish they had saved that save.

Coreen said...

Well Carol, you are on your own with Jan on this show...

Carol said...

I hope Jan has her a drink ready. Where is I stash that Thorazine???

Carol said...

Coreen, I may be joining you and it was the first season I've gotten into AI. Easy come easy go!

Carol said...

I've been cruising the AI news for the last several weeks and she is always on top. This just doesn't make any sense. Am I sleeping??

Carol said...

Well a little look see at the recent news and everyone is stunned by the results tonight. Some are also signing off AI. I bet they will lose some of their audience.

Carol said...

I really think that Fox needs to investigate their voting system. I really think someone hacked the system. I just called everyone I knew who watches the show and I don't know a single person who didn't think that Pia was the best.

Carol said...

I've wanted to vote on AI but they make it difficult to do it online. I had to go thru Facebook and didn't want to so I didn't vote. Maybe that is one of the problems. I have no problems voting for DWTS.

jan said...

We taped Idol so I could go swim. We just watched the end. We are stunned. I cannot believe it. I think the voting system stinks. they need to investigate the voting system. I don't know what to say. Even the other contestants were shocked.

jan said...

On DWTS they combine the judges votes with the audience votes. Maybe they need to do that here.

I vote for another voting system. I think there is some kind of conspiracy.

jan said...

We didn't vote this week. We have voted other weeks and have had no problem on either land line or cell phone.

jan said...

My pick of the past groups has always gone to the final 2-3 people. This is shocking.

jan said...

I am royally pissed.

Carol said...

Jan, bloggers are very mad at the voters..the judges but I really don't think that was how the vote went. I really think there was some serious glitch in the system.

Carol said...

I've made up my mind..I'm through with AI. It was a pain to watch anyway since Fox is not on my satelitte and I can't pause it to do things I need to get up to do. I think there was a lot of talent this season on the show but to keep watching as the best gets voted off is crazy. I get crazy enough watching the news everyday so I'm not going to feel the same way with my entertainment.

Carol said...

OK..I'm still reeling from last night. I'm just tired of things not making sense. This is just another one of those "chicken catcher" moments. Member that? When the chicken catch won America's got Talent? I still havent gotten over that.

Why is it so important?? Because if this ain't an equipment glitch..which I sincerely hope it is..we've got a problem Houston. We've got to depend on these same people to make even more important decisions. Of course I remember that some of these people have already demonstrated that they can screw up other..more important..elections. I think we're suffering the consequences of that right now.

Carol said...

I took the day off today. I want to take advantage of this lovely weather even though it is suppose to be overcast and warmer today.

Carol said...

Chloe instead of "an angel from the other side sent into my life to keep me humble and hopping" I'm kinda thinking it's more a demon from hell that keeps us saying...WTF?

Anonymous said...

LOL Carol! A completely different way of looking at it.

Whatever it is, it's inevitable and unavoidable.

Survival of the fittest, as our friend Darwin would say (and the 'only' control over it is our reaction/response).

Anonymous said...

Hi Jan.
Actually Carol reminded me of the Scottie blog in an earlier comment, so I went over and caught up. I love the blog, but seem to keep forgetting to read it.

Anonymous said...

"Today I saw an Indigo Bunting. They come thru the first two weeks of April each year."

What a beautiful little bird, Carol. I don't think I've seen one, or maybe I was just too unaware to notice (either that or blind).
Indigo Bunting
Was yours as chubby as the one in the pic?

jan said...

Chloe,
What a beautiful bird the Indigo Bunting is.

Carol, as much as I have liked Idol in the past, I may swear off too. The problem is I like some of the guys, especially James, Casey and Scotty. It would be like cutting off my nose to spite my face. I love the singers and love to see them get a start in doing something they love. I will probably continue watching and if you don't I will keep you informed.

jan said...

Coreen, can't blame you for leaving Idol. If I did not care about the show I would leave too. Please read what I wrote to Carol.

Wish I like sports, but just can't make myself watch it. So I will just catch your's and Carol's chatter about stuff.

Coreen, I cannot put the 3rd book down (the girl who...). This does not happen to me often. I usually only read at night for 30-60 min before sleep. This book won't let me sleep so I have to read it in daytime and something boring before sleep LOL. I think you will like it. I found the first book a little tough getting into it, but well worth the effort.

jan said...

Coreen, the 1st book in the series can stand alone, but if you read the 2nd, you have to read the 3rd.

jan said...

I am hosting all the family at our house tomorrow evening. The kids from COLO will be here with baby Landon. I will have a full house. My son is helping with dinner so I am not resp for all. I had the house cleaned today.

I may not be on here much until Sunday. Have a great weekend dear friends.

Coreen said...

Jan, enjoy your weekend with your family...have to say whenever you speak of them, your joy comes through the words...

I am going to get the 1st girl who, & though I thought you already had a kindle, (maybe you said John had one, or so I thought, I also think Chloe has one) by all means
treat yourself to one as soon as you can...

I have found that because it is so compact/light I carry it around & am reading much more & enjoying it immensely...

Coreen said...

Carol, hope your AI disenchantment has subsided...for now we still have DWTS & if you
like any of the other AI contestants, probably
should follow them to the end...

For me, I really only liked Pia's voice, the others were just alright to me...so no big thing for me to let it go...You & Jan can
advise us of how it goes...

Meanwhile today the dreaded Red Sox actually won their first game...against MY YANKEES...
They were so overdue for a win & it had to be
against my guys, I really hate that...

But oh well, tomorrow we do it again...

Coreen said...

Ok, on the local NY Fox channel that airs AI,
(Pia lives in NYC/Staten Island I think they said)the comments are that most of the voters are young women, who would tend to vote for the guys...also that 65% of AI viewers are women & they favor the guys...

Also, that Pia's song may not have been the best to showcase her voice & that the b/w outfit did not flatter her...

In other words no one knows why she was the one voted off...

Let's hope somehow she goes on to be a megastar
in spite of this slap in the face...

Carol said...

Coreen, I have to take some of the blame for Pia's loss since I didn't vote and just about everyone else I talked to who also thought that Pia was the best in show, didn't vote either.

I still wish that Fox would make the voting online simplier like DWTS voting is. I'm sure more would vote if they did. More young people vote because spending all that time on the phone is right up their alleys.

Calling in the vote would be easier but you have 50 votes. That's ridiculous. Why does each person need 50 votes?? What's the point and who wants to make 50 calls?? Is this a way to run up cellphone bills??

Jan did say she votes. Jan, do you make 50 calls??

Carol said...

BTW, Pia will be on Jan Leno tonight.

Carol said...

Pia definitely needs some help with her wardrobe or maybe she needs to fire who already is. Weird..while she is singing on Leno..they cut away for commercial.

Carol said...

If that is how they usually treat the latest Idol loser on the late night shows..if I were one..I'd tell them thanks but no thanks. It would be like being asked to dinner somewhere and finding out you're the kitchen help.

When Jay finishes his monologue ..while he's still standing on stage after..he calls Pia out.. asks her a real quick question. She gets to start singing then they cut away for a commercial. When they come back from the commercial she is just finishing her song. A little later she starts another song..after about ten seconds.. they cut to another commercial and return for the last couple of notes. Embarrassingly pitiful. That's when I fell asleep.

I just went to rewatch Leno again to make sure I did see what I thought I saw. I did go to the casino last night and one of my friends introduced me to something she called a chocolate martini. You know how I take to chocolate. It didn't taste like it had alcohol in it. One drink and I had a little buzz going.

Well..watching Leno again this morning..I see that Pia got to warm up many of the commercials. They also had on David Arquette..he's giggling like a little girl and I'm thinking that he must have quite a buzz going when he says that he was at least one year sober. Hmmmm..I'd say if he quit drinking alcolol he must still be enjoying some substance. He definitely seemed buzzed.

Oh..I still hated Pia's dress selection. It was a peach colored short fluffy thing. Peach ain't her color. I'd guess she's a winter in her coloring and peach isn't one of the winter colors. Have any of you ever had your colors done. I used to be a summer until I turned totally gray..now I'm a winter.

Carol said...

If your not keeping up..I read on Huff Post that:

"The Ryan budget is a remarkable document: all of its budget cuts hammer working class families, seniors, and students -- while all of its tax cuts go straight to millionaires. It does almost nothing to deal with the deficit, yet still manages to deal a death blow to virtually every member of the working middle class and everyone trying to work their way into it. It is especially hard on seniors and the most vulnerable in society in the midst of the toughest economic times since the Great Depression, doing serious economic damage to anyone who isn't a millionaire, oil company, or Wall Street bank. The good news, for those who are millionaires? They get so many economic benefits it will be hard to keep track of them all."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mike-lux/ryan-gop-budget_b_846907.html

How do we get to be a millionarie now?? If you aren't already there..not likely you will ever get there unless you have the winning lottery ticket.

Do these people realize that millionaires and billionaires don't make up that much of the population?? Who is going to vote for them again?? Oh yeah..the same idiots who voted them all in after having been screwed for 8 years.

Carol said...

Jan..which son is helping with dinner? Is he cooking or are ya'll getting takie outie? I know you will enjoy the evening. We'll catch you on the flip side.

Carol said...

Chloe..I've been keeping a look out but only saw one little Bunting so far. He wasn't as fat as the one in the pic. I have my camera ready so I can take a pic if I see another one. I don't think they really like to hang out by the river. I see a few different birds here from what I see at my house that's not on the river but just less than 2 miles from here.

My hummers are back but not as many as I have in the fall. I wonder why I have so many in the fall and not so many in the spring.

Carol said...

Chloe..I didn't take Lappy 2 back. I didn't want to pack it up and bring it back. One thing I hated about it was that it had awful little speakers. I had to stick my ear up to them to hear anything. Lappy 1 had great little speakers. Yesterday I bought these tiny little speakers for it at Walmart. They work well.

Anonymous said...

Carol, I've noticed too that there are a lot more hummers in the fall than Spring. I think we're a good stop for them when they're going south for the winter, but it looks to me like they're passing through, more than staying at my place. When they go back up north in the Spring, it seems like it must be a quicker trip for them. I can't imagine that they don't take the same route.

Yours seem to stick around more (mine, passing through). No water source here, and I think that may make a difference. There's no shortage of birds that live here year round though, and things are getting very active and noisy out there. It's mating season, and I love the sound of it -- all the activity, hustling and bustling that is going on out there. I'm sitting here in complete darkness this morning, and can already hear them actively chirping and singing away, even though it's not daylight yet.

Glad to hear your new laptop is working out for you. Lately, a lot of them have much smaller speakers , and it's a good idea to have those little attachable speakers. I don't use mine for sound a lot, don't like the news video's (would rather read about it). But hubby uses his speakers a lot, and his computers are a lot louder than mine.

... You know, Jan is right about always losing the first comment of the day. If I hadn't saved that, it would have been all gone. It's really hard to start over when you lose one.

Anonymous said...

Jan,

Hope you have a wonderful 'family' weekend, and that you don't have to work too hard. It's nice that you will have help.

I'm so looking forward to hearing about it, and hoping we'll see many pictures!

Coreen, I've had a Kindle for years now -- but it took me a lot longer to fall in love with it than you did. They've improved them a little, made them sligtly more compact, and made a few more small changes and improvements on them as time has gone by. I'm on Kindle #3 now, because of a couple of accidents I had (one was that I stepped on mine one morning getting out of bed). I was lost without it until my new one arrived. One thing is, they've always been wireless, but before you needed to have a wireless network nearby. Now they connect wirelessly without the need to have an outside network..

I've been hesitant to recommend them, only because so many people sounded so reluctant - and said they love the old fashioned books, the feel of them, the paper, familiarity, etc. They've always been wireless, but before you needed to have a wireless network of your home. Now they connect wirelessly without the need to have a network nearby.

By the way, the price is about has gone done considerably since they first came out - that's another improvement, and another reason to be thankful for competition.

As a matter of fact, as I've said many times here before, I love all things Amazon.

Whenever I order things on line, they're the first place I check. They make things so easy, and keep track of your Amazon electronic orders as well as any other type of orders you make as well. They even give you a choice of who to buy from. I ordered a potty training DVD for Emma the other day, and they also offered me a list of used DVDs, that were a fraction of the price, to choose from (I mean, we'll only be viewing it a few times, then it's go in the trash).

I trust them , and literally love that they make things so easy.

Coreen said...

Good morning guys...

Chloe, believe me I would never have thought that I would like the Kindle...but as you said
Amazon has made it oh so very easy, from ordering/receiving (I had it one day after ordering it) & then the ease & instant receipt of the books...

I do like real books, but do not make a special
trip to a store to buy a book & what is so
great is you can have a book in a blink of an eye, press the button & it is there...any time...anywhere there is a wifi signal (have no idea how that works, but it does)

I am on my third book in a just a couple of weeks...

Even better is you can make the type/font as LARGE as is comfortable for you to see...that with how very light it is, to hold/carry, makes it a winner...

I still get the NYT daily so I can review their
Sunday books section & also have been reading the Amazon book reviews, it so easy to get a new book...I have little patience with gadgets but this is just the best little thing...

A friend was going on a cruise with another couple, one of whom can't go without her Kindle, when something happened before boarding the ship to her Kindle
& she insisted that she go & get another before
she would get on the ship....

Have been told the Barnes/Noble color Nook is
even better & that would be saying lots since I am just so pleased with the Kindle...I have the wifi/3G version - $189...

Oh & if you are still finding time to read you may want to check out "A Discovery of Witches"...modern day fantasy fiction...

Coreen said...

Carol, a visit to the casino...hope you came home with more $ than you went with...if not,
hope you had fun anyway...

It is actually sunny (at least for one day) so I'll see you later...Enjoy the weekend...

jan said...

What fun to catch up with all of you this morning. I have enjoyed reading all your comments since I clocked out of here yesterday.

jan said...

Coreen, good to read all your comments about your Kindle. I know Chloe loves hers too. John has been asking me if I want one. I think I will say "yes"

jan said...

I think one of the e-readers would be good as I believe I have a paper allergy.

Coreen, am going to see about the book you mentioned above "...witches.."

Carol, Terry is helping me with dinner. He is bringing something in for dinner. 3 of the grandkids have have birthdays (in past and future week) so I am making a cake.

jan said...

It is somewhat of a potluck as Bill and wife are bringing salad.

I am just looking forward to seeing everyone and playing with the 2 babies. They are both about 15 months old now and both walking. I have not seen either one of them for some time.

Chloe, I will be taking lots of pics. oops need to recharge camera battery.

Carol, sorry I didn't read here last night. Missed Pia on Leno. Too bad.

Carol said...

I've determined it's all AI's fault for the crazy voting results on AI. I'm starting a boycott of AI until they make the voting more reasonable. Online they force you to sign up for Facebook and on the phone, you have 50 votes..dumb. This is the reason that AI has such goofy results.

They should stop the Facebook thing and let you vote by phone and give ya one vote less that the number of contestants. I bet there would be more reasonable results.

jan said...

Pia may not have appealed to the younger set. She has this amazing voice but like you said Carol, you didn't like her choice of clothing. I did like how she dressed. She has that hourglass type of body and she played that up. l

jan said...

I like your ideas for voting system Carol.

Carol said...

Didn't see ya slip in Jan. Morning. Have a great day. I know you will. Say Hi from Aunt Carol.

jan said...

Carol, when you go to the casino, what do you play?

jan said...

Carol, I will tell the boys "hi" from Auntie Carol. They always like hearing what you are doing these days.

Carol said...

Jan, the outfit I'm talking about was what she wore on Leno last night and you said you didn't see it. I'm not sure you would have liked that one.

Doesn't look as bad here as I thought it looked last night. I don't think it flattered her figure.

http://www.examiner.com/tv-in-national/pia-on-leno-video

Carol said...

Better look fast because that was how it was last night. She walks out, barely gets a few notes in and off for commercial.

Carol said...

When reading comments about what she was wearing the other night for her last song, I read that many didn't like that print she had on. Some even blamed her loss on the outfit. I really didn't even notice it.

Carol said...

Actually, I'm not that perceptive. Something has to either be extremely attractive or unattractive, IMO, for me to notice it. I remember once when I was walking down the stairs with two of my faculty buds at the U, they said, did you notice that guy exposing himself. I hadn't and was about to go back to look but they wouldn't let me.

Carol said...

My friend, Tomato woman, can walk thru a room and tell you what everyone was wearing. I may have walked thru the same room and didn't even notice there were people in it. Well, maybe not that bad.

Carol said...

There are some guys doing dirt work at the neighbors camp. I just asked them to clear some bush on the rest of my property across the street here. I'm so excited. I'll finally get to see it. I told him not to touch any trees cuz I'm a tree hugger. He said he was too.

I also have some big logs that are left from hurricane Rita and Ike. They were either pieces left overs from a couple of trees I lost or ones that floated in when the water came up. They were too big to move. One is even under my camp and it is so big that I thought I'd have to make a bench out of it. There going to take that out. Whoopee.

Carol said...

Congrats on your Yanks today Coreen. If I woulda known, I coulda watched. Tomato woman said they were on ESPN earlier.

The guys got the big log out from under my camp but couldn't do the other stuff because his trackhoe had a problem. He'll be back Monday to do it. Can't wait.
