Happy Thanksgiving

I hope everyone who checks in here tomorrow has a Happy Thanksgiving. I have so much to be thankful for, especially all of you here who share in my joys and listen to my complaints of aches and pains. I will be thinking of each of your tomorrow and saying prayers that you are safe and warm and enjoying your day. I went through my pictures and found some of a little church John had in Arkansas. It is a lovely little church in a small town. The best thing about it are the people who we count as good friends.

oops! Got a pic of my friend in there too. I am thinkful he is in my life.

I love you all.

Very nice Jan. Thanks you for putting up a thankful post. I, too, am thankful for the new and the old friends I have found here, even those we got to know for only a short time. I hope we all find many more things to come in the future to be thankful for.

Hope you all have a wonderful day tomorrow and don't have to work too hard.

And Jan, you got this post in, just in the nick of time.

Just read on Huff Post that Tom DeLay was found guilty. He said this:

"This is an abuse of power. It's a miscarriage of justice, and I still maintain that I am innocent. The criminalization of politics undermines our very system and I'm very disappointed in the outcome," DeLay told reporters outside the courtroom."

I think what he said is kinda ironic since I would say something very similar about him but I'd say it a little different....criminals in politics undermine our very system. I think it's nice that the people can get some justice for a change. And in the good old state of Texas.

He faces up to life in prison but we know that prison is mainly for poor or unimportant people. He chose to have the judge sentence him. Maybe he's a friend??

Carol said...

Ivy, are you going to get any Brussel sprouts this year??? And is Hubs doing his crab cakes?

Good morning....Jan, love your post for today...

I am thankful for my family & friends, both
near and far...

Happy Thanksgiving....enjoy the day....

Good morning. We woke up to snow on the ground this morning. I could not wait to get a picture to send you. The pic is across the street taken in my robe with my tea in hand.

Carol said...

Wow Jan, how special. I have the AC on now but I took my electric throws out for tomorrow and the next day. It's getting cold here also.

Wow...came back in from getting the papers & while it is pretty chilly, overcast here & will be raining later...what a surprise...had to smile when I

I am imagining you Jan as happy as a child on Christmas morning!!!! Just wonderful...

I'll just bet Jan's boys are loving this Dallas/Saints game. Dallas looks like a new team since half time.

Carol said...

The Saints must have gotten into some bad mushrooms at half time.

Carol said...

I wonder if that game stressed Jan's boys as much as it stressed me. Whew! Dallas looked like a different team after half time. They wanted it, wanted it very bad, and almost got it.

jan said...

Coreen, I was so excited when I saw the snow. It didn't last long but it was fun to wake up to snow and not have to go anywhere. The high here today was around 35. I just kept drinks out on my back porch and they stayed cold.

It was a nice Thankgiving. Both my older boys and their families were here. My oldest son and DIL helped out in the kitchen so much. They always do. We had a minor crisis. My kitchen faucet's seal must have went out and we developed a leak under the sink. So will need to be replaced. We found where it was leaking and just put a small square tub under there. It is a slow leak so have only had to empty it once. Will call a plumber Monday. Fortunately, we are going out of town.

jan said...

Carol, Congratulations, your Saints won!

it was a good game up to the end. I told the boys you were rootin for the Saints. They were disappointed that Dallas lost - but it didn't dull the evening for them.

jan said...

Glad you all liked my snow pic. My sons live about 25 minutes away and they didn't even get snow flurries.

Carol said...

Sorry about your leak Jan. We seem to be passing our luck back and forth lately. We each keep developing these leaks and cricks. Now one of us needs to win the lottery. That's something that would be a nice thing for each of us to pass to the other.

Mary decided she didn't feel good and wasn't hungry so instead of bring SF back to town to eat, where we were going to eat, I took him to the racetrack/casino down the road. I had to get a wheelchair because they had a long line. I guess there many others who didn't want to cook.

The food wasn't good but it was easy. There are some good things about not cooking, no dishes to do and no left overs to tempt you later.

I went to a friend's house on my way home to watch the first part of the Saint's game. It's always more fun to watch a game with someone else. The first half of that game was all Saints and the second half was all Cowboys. It was stressful to watch but much more exciting to have a nail bitter than a blow out. I was wondering how many people had to go to the ER with chest pain during or after that game. I didn't get any calls from work so that was a good sign. Everyone must have passed their cardiac stress test.

Sister sent me this little Youtube video. I think you all might enjoy this:

Laughter is the best medicine

Carol said...

There are still two more potentially exciting FB games to look forward to this weekend...LSU and Arkansas and Auburn and Alabama. I only enjoy FB when if it's a team I'm interested in.

Anyone going to venture out to shop today? Maybe Chloe will. She likes to shop. I need some groceries but most of the ones I need are at Walmart. Maybe things will settle down after the bargains are gone.

Coreen said...

Carol, didn't see your saints win, but glad you
were not disappointed...

All was well & quiet here on Thanksgiving, though we did have a touch of snow flurries driving home, but they melted on contact with the ground...

Today is a gloomy, chilly rain day...can't imagine going shopping today or even this weekend, but to each his own...

Hope the rest of the weekend is calm & peaceful...

Jan, if you are on another road trip, enjoy &
be safe...

Carol said...

Coreen, yesterday it was AC on and today it's 45 with 23+ mph wind gusts. There's a surf out on the river right now. Due for the low 30s tonight.

Carol said...

With the steam coming off the river and the turbulance of the water, it looks like the river is a giant hottube. Somehow I don't think it would feel that way.

I did my Walmart thing and there was less trafic there than on Saturday when I usually shop. I got home in time to watch the Iron Bowl, Alabama and Auburn. It looks to be an exciting game and Alabama has already scored a touch down. You wanna bet that Ivy's watching.

Carol said...

One of the guys on sport's talk radio said that when you move to Alabama and go to get a driver's licence you have to declare whether you are an Auburn or Alabama fan. I guess he was joking but wasn't sure.

Carol said...

Dang Ivy, I don't know what happened to that game yesterday. It was like the Saint's game Thursday without the last minute come back. If McElroy wouldn't have gotten hurt they may have made that last minute come back. And it may all be for naught if those Cam rumors have any truth to them.

And sorry about that terrorist scare in Portland. Thank God it was just a scare. I just heard about it.

Carol said...

Jan, hope everything is OK over your way.

Ya know holidays are wonderful for people who have lots of family and/or have the opportunity to all get together. They are also a time for much sadness for many because they always remind us of all the changes that have occurred in our families, those who aren't there anymore. A little of that touches just about every family.

jan said...

Carol, John and I just watched the video of the 72 y/o woman who delivered the prayer at the convention. It was great. What a funny lady. Thank you for posting that.

We are in Phoenix. We are here to see John's (and my) 16 y/o granddaughter play field hockey in a tournament. They traveled here from Virginia. We went out to the sports complex (outdoor) and watched her play a game at 6 pm. We nearly froze to death. But had fun watching her play. She is the sweetest young woman and a tiger on the field. Her team played well but lost 1-3 points. There are 2 more games today at 10 and 4 and we will drive home tomorrow.

We drove 470 miles from Alb to PX. It was warm yesterday until the sun went down and then got cold fast. I had on 2 long sleeved shirts and hoodie over that and still was cold last night.

jan said...

Wow Carol, do you get nervous when the river is like that? Your dinner with SF sounds just fine to me. When I make dinner, I never really know if its good or not, for some reason I am not really able to taste it. I all tastes the same. I love to go to someone else's house for dinner. It always tastes better to me.

Coreen, sorry you had a rainy gloomy day yesterday. Hope it is better today. I hate shopping and especially at this time of year. Carol probably wonders if this is really me talking. When I was younger I loved to shop. I think older age has soured me on shopping. I don't like the crowds either. I give gift cards to my grandchildren. Thats what they want. My DIL's go shopping with me and help me buy for my sons and then The DIL's and I buy an item of clothing in the shops for each other and then go home and wrap them and show surprise on Christmas morning. Makes it really easy. Thats all the shopping I do. After our shopping trip the DIL's and I go somewhere and have margueritas. We usually take one granddaugher who can drive us all home.

Carol said...

Darn, if y'all were cold can you imagine how cold it must be for those players?? They can't play in longjohns can they?

Carol said...

Are y'all going to get home in time for that Arkansas and LSU game? Since you at most likely at the game, I guess I won't get an answer to that question.

Arkansas is favored to win from what I have read but you just never know this year what will happen. I'm not sure my ticker can take another nail bitter.

jan said...

We are still in Phoenix. The Ark/LSU game is supposed to be early this afternoon. We are not getting it now. We may not get it here. We went to GD's field hockey game this morn. We are back at motel now after lunch. He is going back to the 4 pm field hockey game. I am going to visit with my former DIL who lives here. My 2 oldest grandchildren are here with their babies this weekend - so am hoping to see them this afternoon. We will head home tomorrow am.

jan said...

Carol, the players weren't cold last night, at least GD said she wasn't. She was sweating. They were running a lot.

jan said...

Carol, What you said about the holidays and families and there is a lot of sadness for many - is so true. I feel very fortunate to have 2 of my sons close by.

jan said...

We found the game.

jan said...

In case you don't know where we are, on the map it shows we are in Mesa, Arizona - although actually we are in Scottsdale.

Carol said...

I see it Jan. Wave and let me see if I can find ya.

Carol said...

I'm glad you found the game. It's good.

Carol said...

I'd prefer that no one get way ahead.

Carol said...

Congrats John and Jan, et al. Well at least the Saints won theres, barely. I think I'm over FB for a while.

Hi Solar, glad to see ya here. You have been away a lot lately, but you are making up for it. I am doing much better lately. No aches or pain tonight.

We are home. It was warm when we left Phoenix. It was snowing in Flagstaff as we drove through. Really treacherous road conditions but John is a good driver- I trust him completely on bad roads. In town, I give him a hard time about his driving - he is impatient.

John went to his GD's last game yesterday afternoon. I went over to my former DIL's where my 2 oldest grandchidren were for the weekend. They both had their their little ones and both are close to a year old. The oldest is taking his first steps. I had so much fun playing with them and chatting with my 2 grown grandchildren. Remember the young man in uniform with the little guy - he was there. They live in Colo so I don't get to see them too often. I took lots of pictures so will post a couple.

We are so glad to be home. When we got back my son was here with a new faucet for my kitchen sink - remember it was leaking on Thanksgiving day. He installed it for me . No more leaks. Bless him!

jan said...

I hope all of you had a good weekend.

Carol said...

Hello Solar and Jan. I enjoyed your posts Solar. You need to come around more often to entertain and enlighten us. You always have such a good attitude. Wish you could pass that on to me. Mine has been in the tank lately.

I'm glad you had a good time on your visit Jan. That was a pretty good drive. Are you going again this week? Seems you mentioned another trip, besides the cruise. Do you have any trouble sitting in a car for long periods?

jan said...

We don't have plans for any trips in Dec - at the moment. I don't mind car trips at all. I like to stop and stretch every 2 hours -one of us usually has to potty or get something to eat or drink or get gas. John is good about stopping. We don't linger though - we do what we want to need to do and are back on the road pdq.

This was a good trip - not at all stressful. We spent time with John's daughter and GD and saw her play. I spent Sun afternoon with my grandchildren and 2 great.... babies. We spent a lot of time in the mall - the young folks like to shop. It was great for me to be with the babies. Not a single ache or pain for me on the trip. So I know I was relaxed.

jan said...

I took lots of pics. I will post some very soon.

Coreen said...

Glad to see we all made it through the long weekend, & looks like CT will get through November with NO SNOW!!!...Some rain but nothing on the horizon yet...which makes me happy...

Ok DWTS may be over...but have been trying to
think of my favorite songs...(a NY website is
compiling its list, but you can only list 5)...

you know how hard it is to pick just 5 songs...here's one that always makes me turn
the radio up when it comes on...but not sure it
would make my top 5...

what about you....could you pick just 5.....

Cherry Bomb

Carol said...

What memories does that song bring back Coreen? Do you think any of your favorite songs are favorite because of the good memories they bring back to you?

Carol said...

I am a little lost without DWTS tonight. Don't think I could get into the skating one.

Coreen said...

Not really any particular memory, just like the
song itself...

there are songs though that do bring back memories...mostly dancing....maybe Mellencamp
singing about dancing rings a bell...we used to
go out to local clubs to dance on the weekends
that was a big thing way back when....

Coreen said...

Now this does bring back lots of good memories...& there were others of this doo wop
era that are equally great...

I have seen Emil Stucchio the lead singer do this song recently & he still has a great voice...Did I ask you was this type music more
popular in the NYC/northeast...

Til Then

Coreen said...

Watch my Five-O guys...I just love them...

Did you like Miami Vice?...my friends tease me
about Don Johnson til this day...Sonny Crocket my kind of guy...

Carol said...

Never heard that song Coreen. Does remind me of others that were similar. What year was that song popular?

Carol said...

Ya know instead of Wikileaks exposing all this international BS, stuff that doesn't really surprise me at all, I would rather have some real dirt on our leaders about how they participated in the downfall of our economy. Give us some good stuff.

Coreen said...

Til Then was an old song from the 40s...the Classics a NY group did it in 1963...

I grew up watching American Bandstand, & listening to Murray the K, Cousin Brucie,
NY top 40 radio guys....& when I turned 16, I
had a car & we drove around listening all day/night...

And when we were 18, you could drive to NY &
dance at clubs....the drinking age in CT was 21
then...so we all went over the state line to
Westchester NY (about 1/2 hr ride & danced)....
The most popular place was called the Country House....

Carol said...

I think Jan could win this SWTS.

Carol said...

I came home from work today and watched the View. I record it to have something to watch at night since I can't find much at night I'm interested in anymore.

Susan Boyle was on The View today and was singing Oh Holy Night, one of my favorite Carols. Shortly after she started, her voice went out and she had to stop singing. She looked like she was fighting back a choke and looked devastated. I certainly can relate to how she must have felt. I have never seen that happen to anyone on live TV.

Jan, I don't know if you have ever had the experience of talking to a group of people and getting choked. It's happened a couple of times to me, thankfully only with my class of students and not when I was talking to a really large group but the fear of that happening was often there. You know, that hot pepper juice in the salsa kind of choke.

Coreen said...

Don't watch the view or any of the daytime talk shows, but right now, the Rockefeller Christmas Tree lighting show has been on & both
Susan Boyle & little Janet Evanko sang...their
performances may be taped or live not sure...Sheryl Crow & Mariah Carey & Boys 2 Men
& the Rockettes have been on...& the tree should be lit in about 25 minutes...Not sure
if this goes on beyond NYC area....

jan said...

Coreen, I saw this advertised on the morning show this morn but could not find it on our stations. Rats. I bet I can find it online though

Carol, wow, I am so sorry for Susan Boyle. That does happen though. That happens to me when we eat out and have the chips and salsa. I have downed lots of water to counteract it. I think I told you about getting choked at a recent dinner I went to. I get panicky as I have a hard time getting my breath. I think my trachea spasms.

jan said...

Carol, I didn't watch SWTS's. I forgot about it. Was working on a quilt.

Went to my regular checkup this afternoon. Most everything ok. My A1C for blood sugar is normal - yeaay. The test for my thyroid showed I need a low dose so back on thyroid. I had that scan 10 years ago that showed my thyroid was low, but my doc here didn't believe it. So now will go on a low dose.

jan said...

I love the view.

jan said...

Coreen, I like the old songs too, just different ones than you posted here. I will have to try and remember my favorites.

jan said...

Carol, I am afraid to ice skate now. I have a great fear of breaking a bone.

Coreen said...

Well the Rockefeller tree has been lighted, Christmas season has officially kicked off.....
Glad that they still call it the Rockefeller
Christmas Tree...

Today in New Haven, on the green they were
getting its Christmas tree ready to be lighted
& a menorah was up as well, I believe Hanukkah
starts tomorrow... & even on my town's little
green (where the flags were up for 9-11) the
Hanukkah menorah had been put up, & the creche
will be put up soon...

Coreen said...

Jan, those songs aren't even my absolute favs...as I said it is really hard to choose
just a few favorites...

Carol said...

Well I missed it but I heard Susan did fine tonight. I wonder if she had any panicky feeling after what happened this morning. I know I would have. After Susan's voice cut out and she stopped singing both Whoopi and Sherrie jumped up to go talk with her and be supportive. You could tell they really felt for her. I do like the view also, especially when they discuss their hot topics. I just love Whoopi. She's so down to earth. I would enjoy hanging out with her.

Carol said...

You guys in those cold climate, what temperature do you keep your houses at in the winter?

Solar said...

Just passing thru, and noticed that the swamp has frozen up.! If it a little sick, lets fix it. What are the problems? let it all out, and feed the cold, me I had my flu shot,.....

Out weather is a little cold for Dec, but I just roll with it, just like when its gets too hot.............later

Solar said...

sorry for the bad typing....as i exit out the door....is redundant?....outa her now....

jan said...

Hi Solar, thanks for checking in for a bit. I am still here.

Carol, I love Whoopi on the View too. She is my favorite person on there. She is so real and says what she thinks. No beating around the bush or trying to make nice for her. I like that. You are like that too.
