A little doll makes her debut....

The beautiful little girl is Ella, who was christenend this past February....She is the great niece of my dearest & closest friend who I have known for more than half my life.... I promised her mom Kelly that I would make something for her to wear for the occassion...they waited to christen her til her dad Mike, who is in the Army, returned from Iraq...The family lives in North Carolina for now, as Mike is still in the Army....I found a pattern for this hooded sweater made with chenille yarn for the hood & sleeves making it look like a little white teddy bear coat...

And since Ella is a redhead, I decided to make the angel on her afghan a red-haired angel....just for her...

These afghans are also made from chenille yarn, the rainbow is just my idea to use all the various

colors of yarn in one afghan, the navy & white, my New York Yankee colors...and the black & white afghan was made specially for my friend's daughter-in-law, who likes everything black & white....

Ok, you guys asked for it, so here are some
views of my recent knitting projects...I learned to knit many years ago & enjoy creating
things with yarn...

The family in the pics are my best friend's
niece Kelly (who I have had the pleasure to see grow into a wonderful young woman, her husband Mike & their first child Ella, who now has a brother, Liam)...

Coreen,

I am so glad I checked back in before leaving the house. Thank you so much for sharing those beautiful pictures.

Ella is gorgeous!! -- and so is her family. The only word I can think of to describe your knitting is exquisite.

A delightful post Coreen. Hope you share more of Ella in the future.

... ps. loved the little red haired angel!

... and wow, first time I've seen an open window in years!

I enlarged the pics, and the colors in your knitting stood out even more, especially the rainbow.

Have a great day!

Coreen,
What a beautiful little girl Ella is. I love her red hair. The angel afghan and sweater you made for her are exquisite. What a great idea to make the angel with red hair and it looks like the color perfectly matches Ella's red hair. Your afghans are simply gorgeous. I love seeing your pretty kitty in the window too. I am so happy you shared your beautiful handmade treasures with us. What a wonderful friend you are for those older friends and us newer friends too.

Ella does look like a little doll.

Coreen, an adorable child and an adorable sweater you made for her. How special. Looks pretty challenging. The other afghans are beautiful also. You have a wonderful talent there.

Thanks guys, knitting is something that is easy
for me & relaxing...& for me it is a pleasure
giving a pesonalized creation to certain people...

Oh, I did see some of AGT & my pick is still
the 'blue eyed soul' singer...Mike Grimm...

I know you guys like the child angel singer, Jackie, but something about her just bothers me...the speaking voice & the singing voice
just do not match...& watching her sing, there is like no movement in her face, her
neck, her breathing...I am not sure who she really is...her singing is beautiful, for what it is, but just not for me...

Do you think that any of these contestants wind up with a real long-term career after the exposure regardless if they 'win' or not...what ever happened to the english woman, was it Susan?...

Oh & I still like the magician too...I could
see his show as a Vegas act that would always
attract an audience...who doesn't like magic....

Carol said...

Coreen, I haven't kept up with AGT recently so I can't judge. I'll bet that the real talents on the show do get some nice gigs.

I was just watching the news about that yahoo pastor who is planning on burning the Qur'an.
Actually pastors don't rate high on my list today.

I went to my friend's memorial service and the pastor someone selected to speak at the service really ruined it for me. It's not the first funeral I've attended that had someone similar speaking. It usually is the case when the deceased wasn't a member of the church or didn't go to church. It's almost like they are punishing them for not attending church. Punishing the rest of us also.

I tried hard to ignore him but it was impossible. I didn't have the occasion to hear what anyone else thought after because I had to rush back to work.

They started with some nice music, music TJ would have loved and then this dude started speaking. TJ didn't really attend a church and I don't think he would have attended the one that man pastored and I'm not sure how anyone could. I'm leaving strick instructions, right now, no pastors at my memorial service.

The pastor read the 23rd Psalm and I figured he couldn't ruin that but he certainly managed to do it. He had to explain it to us like he assumed that no one at the service was familiar with it or understood it. He rambled with senseless garbage inbetween every line of the Psalm. He turned something beautiful into a nightmare.

Forgive me God.

Today, with the advice of a couple of the river guys, I went and bought a new outboard motor for my boat. I'm out here on the river, finally have a place to keep my boat so it won't sink if we have a frog strangler, the weather is getting better for fishing, I was all set to go fishing this weekend but I couldn't get the dang motor to start. No more. I can't afford to have an unreliable motor. I brought her in to the boat place this afternoon and tomorrow she'll have a new motor. No more disappointments.

My boat is 18 years old but still in good shape except for a motor I couldn't trust. I hope the weather is good this weekend. I will have to find a new honey hole since the guys who hang out next door have cleaned out my favorite spot. But now I don't have to limit my fishing spots to places close enough to be able to paddle home.

My boatman/swimming pool man/etc, came out to help me bring her in. She started on the first try. She didn't know what I was up to and I didn't tell her.

I had to chuckle the other day when the wildlife agents gave those guys, who cleaned out my fishing hole, a ticket for not having a fishing license. I did try to hide my pleasure. I guess I have a little mean streak in me. A few good fishing trips might fix that.

Guess what? Last night, porch spider, PS, was back on the porch. She started on the porch, several months ago, until she got to greedy with her space and I was having trouble manuvering around her and had to relocate her over the edge of the balcony.

I found her again, a little later, with her web hanging from a tree over the wharf, not that far away. I could see her from the porch. She had a massive web and her web was up every night.

Last night, when I went out to potty the Magster, there was PS, with her web spread entirely across the exit off the porch. No way to get around it. Her gigantic body was sitting in the middle of her web, daring me to go down the stairs.

I did have to break her lower cable supports to get by. Her web rolled up and I ducked under it. A little later she had that web almost back up but I had to go out to my vehicle to check on something so I had to knock out the web again. After two web interruptions, I hope she finds a better location tonight. If not, she's going over the balcony again.

Hi Folks.

Carol, I know you are happy to get a new motor so you can enjoy one of your favorite activities (fishing). That sounds like a great investment for you. I think when doing the thing you love doing, you will be more at peace, even with those crummy people who are getting all the good fish in your fav. fishin hole.

LOL about PS. She sounds like a pretty persistent little spider. We had a cute little spider in our bathtub for about 3 days. We just let her be as we had another shower we were using. Then she just up and disappeared. I should have taken her picture.

We watched AGT last night. I was very pleased to see little Jackie and Michael go through for the finals next week. They are my favorites. I can see both the gravity group and Prince Poppycock in Las Vegas. They are both great acts. Like Sharon, the judge, I liked PP too. He is so funny, I am almost rolling on the floor when he does his act. I thought he was smart to do something so "july 4th" for his act. I think he is hilarious.

I am looking forward to Dancing with the Stars. I wonder how Bristol Palin will do? I just can't help wondering if she will drop out before it starts. She strikes me as pretty introverted.

"and wow, first time I've seen an open window in years!'

Chloe, I didn't catch this statement of yours until I had read over the comments a couple of times. I now realize where you live one rarely opens the windows. One of the things I like about living here is that we can open the windows some time during the day most of the year. I just love open windows especially when there is a nice little breeze.

I need to get ready to leave for training on hearing screen equipment on infants and young children. I have training tonight and in the morning for a total of 6 hours. Our federal funding agency is now requiring this on the children we serve. I now takes me about 2 hours to do a health screening on a young child and the mother (occasionally it is the father). With the hearing screen, it will take at least 2 hrs and 15 min. This is mainly what I am doing in my 25% work week.

Little spider Jan....this spider has quadricepts on her, eight to be exact. She's a brut. She was past being cute a good while back. I'm wondering just where she's gonna set up camp tonight. May be a relocation in my pm duties tonight.

PS

Carol said...

Enjoy your training tonight Jan.

And folkes, the Saints are playing the Vikings on NBC tonight. I'm not sure that's everywhere or just down here.

Coreen said...

So when you get the new motor does the 'gone
fishin' sign go up on weekends....

Looks like karma came around & bit those guys using your river...

As far as spiders, a couple of pretty big ones
are camped outside 2 different windows, spinning big webs....maybe because there has
been so little rain...

Carol said...

Boat wasn't ready today which is OK with me since I had lots to do this afternoon. They had to pull some of the decks to get to some of the cables but since they thought I would be disappointed they offered to run some new wires, that I needed, while they had the decks off.

Coreen said...

Jan, as far as America's Got Talent...guessed 3 of the 4 finalists...but I wanted the magician...I still like Michael Grimm the best...the PrincePoppycock schtick is a bit to over the top for me...& just not big on the little girl with the big voice...but would not
surprise me a bit if PP wound up the winner...

Hope your 'PT job' is not consuming more of your time than you anticipated...

Carol said...

Last weekend we had a quadruple homicide in our town. Four young people were brutally murdered in a mobile home here. Our coroner said in the 20+ years in his job, that was a first. They just caught the main person of interest, in Baton Rouge. I just bet I'll be seeing his ugly mug in the near future.

Carol said...

Coreen, I always take y'all fishing with me. I got a bigger motor so hold on, we'll be moving faster than before. Get your lifejackets ready and a fishing license if you want to drop a line.

Coreen said...

What no speed limit on your river!!!...

Catch the latest...re: the koran burning...its
off...the 'pastor' claims the 'imam' in NYC
is not going to go forward with the mosque
near ground zero...(this has not been confirmed
by any of the NY media)....

As far as I am concerned, this guy should not
have been made the center of attention for so long...just another wackjob with his 15 minutes...

Oh & Donald Trump would offer $6 mill to the
Egyptian investor who claims to be the biggest
investor of the mosque, though he is quoted
in NY papers as saying he'd sell his interest
for $18-$20 mill...its just business....as always it is always about the money....

Carol said...

Coreen, what was Trump offering the money for??

If the News media wouldn't give these wack jobs the air time, they couldn't pull off this BS.

Coreen said...

Trump is offering to buy out the interest of
an Egyptian who today said he was the biggest
investor of the Park51 mosque project & would
sell his share for $18-20 mill...reports are
that Trump is offering $6 mill to buy him out...

Now it seems that the 'pastor' who cancelled
plans to burn korans...was speaking with a
Florida 'imam' not Rauf the nyc mosque one, who
says it is not moving....And last night on cnn
rauf was speaking with Soledad...did not see
it just heard bits & pieces on today's news...have to say...did not appreciate what
he was saying...

And frankly it is 2 days from the 9th anniversary of that horrible day & we are distracted from remembering those who perished
there & instead are inundated with all this mosque issue/koran burning crap & the news telling us how it looks to the muslim world...& oh yes, this a.m. apparently the President was on one of the morning shows voicing his concerns about the koran burning....

Coreen said...

All the news outlets have various versions of the latest twist....here's the NYT spin...

Pastor cancels koran burning

Coreen said...

And all 3 network news lead with it too...

And by the way, it seems this 'pastor's' flock
consists of like 30 members...& yet the world
gives him a forum...

And the NY imam...he comes back to the us. after a taxpayer funded (us) vacation oh I mean
good will trip...& now he's on tv first cnn,
just now abc w/amenpour (who I think is just
awful on sunday a.m. show...they should bring back Tapper)...spouting some less than moderate
comments....

Carol said...

Did y'all notice my pic of porch spider? It just says PS. Click on it for her pic.

Carol said...

Chloe, if you watched the NBC nightly news tonight you would see that you are in plenty of good company. They reported that there are a lot more grandparents raising the grandkids these days.

Coreen said...

Just watched the Drew Brees clip before the game...& have to say, the Saints are definitely
America's Team (forget the Cowboys)...who could
resist their story...from the depths of the anguish that was Katrina & the Superdome to their glorious achievements, for what it meant & means to the city of New Orleans & the state of Louisiana....how could you not cheer for them....even this die-hard only New York teams fan has become a Saints fan too....& it doesn't hurt that I have a friend right there along the 'bayou'..

Carol said...

Good girl Coreen! I'd still love ya if you weren't a fan. But I've also adopted your Yanks. I see they are still on top.

Carol said...

And I even let the peeps down here know. That can be dangerous ya know.

Coreen said...

Almost forgot about that other NO treasure....Harry C...

Be careful with those 'swamp people'....but
you know 'our' Yankees are the best there is (I go back to Reggie Jackson days)...& they will always, always strive to put the best team on the field & to be the top of the heap....here's some Yankee trivia....at the beginning of each home game, the 'bleacher creatures' go through a chant of each player's
name as they take their positions in the field,
from 1st base to the pitcher & each player raises his hand to acknowledge it...& at the end of every home game New York New York by Sinatra is played...there was a rumor that when
they lost at home it played New York, New York
by Lisa Minelli & when they won it is Sinatra...but this year can't say I remember
hearing the Lisa version....

Carol said...

Who dat?

Coreen said...

Now that is my kind a team...I love a passing game...just love that razzle/dazzle.....

Carol said...

I decided to go take Maggie out early tonight before PS could build her web. There she was, hanging from the tree, buying her time, waiting for us to finish our business before starting her web. She doesn't want to have to go thru all that work rebuilding her web again tonight.

We just don't give spiders credit for the intelligence they possess. This spider is problem solving.

PS, just hanging out

Then again, maybe she's not a PS at all. Maybe she's an space alien masquerading as a SP.

Carol said...

Not SP but PS.

jan said...

Carol, cool spider. We are watching Saints play.

Ivy, we are checking back and forth for the Auburn game too.

Smart spider.
