Pagosa Springs

I fear everyone may be tired of seeing baby pictures. Here are some pictures I took on our trip to Pagosa Springs, CO in early May. Pagosa is in the north CO about 30 miles from the NM border. There are many attractions in this small town. It is close to ski areas, especially Wolf Creek. Pagosa is 50 miles from Durango and from Mesa Verde. A big attraction is the hot springs that are all over this area of CO and NM.

Pic 1 is a sign on one of the pools in the hotel
Pic 2 is John relaxing in one of the 23 hotel pools
Pic 3 is a view of the hotel from the town that is across the river
Pics 4 & 5 are views of the springs from across the river - 4 was early in the morn when the steam was rising off the pools.

This was one of the most fun and relaxing trips we have had. If you look closely at John's face in the 2nd pic, you can see his big smile. Each of the 23 pools is named and the temp of the pool is posted. The temps in the pools range from about 90 to 110 degrees. The hottest one is called the Lobster Pot and it was 110 degrees during the time we were there.

In pic # 4 if you blow it up you can see the mineral deposits from the water in the area to the right of the bldg.

The river you see in the pics is popular for rafting, kayaking and canoeing. It is the San Juan river.

In the 4th pic you an see the snow peaks on the mtns. This was in May and the locals said you see the snow peaks all year round. we arrived in Pagosa in early May and it snowed lightly the day we arrived.

Jan,

Really enjoy these pics...The sky is so very
blue & it all looks so clear & crisp....

jan said...

Coreen, thanks for pointing out the blue sky. I didn't realize how blue the sky was in the pic.

Jan, Wonderful pictures! I remember you telling us about your trip, but without the pics, it was impossible to realize what a great place it is - really beautiful. I'd forgotten it had snowed when you went, and I was just thinking about how nice it would be to go someplace like that in the winter.

Wow Jan, did you do all this on your new computer? Great post!

... your pics also enlarged very nicely. I could see that big smile on Johns face. What a perfect vacation.

I think everyone here loves baby pictures Jan. Just seems like everyone's been pretty busy - I'm sure Carol must be, or she'd be here.

I'm going to be taking off first thing in the morning, for the day, so won't be able to check in until later in the afternoon.

I sure do appreciate you sharing these great posts with us. I am not feeling creative at all here lately. The older Emma gets, the more time I need to spend with her, so I don't have much time I can call my own for a while.

Thanks again Jan - see you tomorrow.

We're taking Emma out and showing her some of the sites tomorrow - but I'll have help, so it'll be a carefree day. This weekend, we have several projects around the property here that we need to get going. Things are falling behind - ALWAYS!

Beautiful pics Jan and do I wish I was there! Haven't written anything because I'm up to my eyelids in alligators with this hospital mess.

I'm sure you will be happy to hear that there is just too much to even discuss on this blog but I could write a book on the awful experience. I promise that we treat our inmates and their families better than this Catholic, Private hospital has treated us. They have threatened to keep me from seeing my SF because I have expressed my displeasure with how we have been treated. I'm contacting a medical health advocacy group tomorrow to get them to try to intervene. In my almost 40 years of experience in the healthcare system, I have never seen anything like this before. I keep wondering if I am asleep and this is all a bad dream.

Now, to tune into some really horrible cable new's program. I need something to cheer me up.

And for some good news, this has turned out to be an excellent weight loss program. Losing almost a pound a day and no exercise required.

Jan, I never get tired of looking at the younguns. It is very peaceful. Abigail's big smiled brought me back to center several times recently.

I had an interesting patient today. He is a young, nice looking, pleasant, fairly intelligent but uneducated AA man. He also has a touch of schizophrenia. He told me that Obama was the anti Christ, voices told him.

I told him I thought that he would be proud that we had an AA president. He said no, he is the anti-Christ. If a patient is willing to share their delusions, I always listen. Can't prove that they might not have some insight that I don't have. But as soon as we can identify his antipsychotic meds, we will be restarting them. That may stop the voices but I don't think it will necesarily change his opinion of Obama.

And Ivy, if you're lurking, I have this spider that makes her web every night right in the path I take to bring Maggie out to potty. Every night I forget and walk thru it. Every night I do a little jig thinking that, not so pleasant looking, spider is probably on me somewhere.

Tonight I noticed that she has done a particularly great job on her web. It is magnificent. Poor baby has had enough practice redoing it. I will try hard to remember to go around it tonight.

Carol said...

Well, I made it in and out with Maggie and spider web is still intact. I think I saw a few beads of sweat dripping from that spider's brow and I think I heard a faint little "whew!".

......have been having a hard time getting on the web...Carol, please e mail me Mary's cell # or a # that I can get a hold of her...am going to try to get together with her for sure....thanks

OK Solar.

Wasp spray... Who knew ???

I know some of you own GUNS, but this is something to think about...

If you don't have a gun, here's a more humane way to
wreck someone's evil plans for you.

Did you know this? I didn't. I never really thought of it before.

Wasp Spray !!!

A friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area was
concerned about someone coming into the office on Monday to
rob them when they were counting the collection. She asked the
local police department about using pepper spray and they
recommended to her that she get a can of wasp spray instead.

The wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away
and is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have
to get too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray
temporarily blinds an attacker until they get to the hospital for an
antidote. She keeps a can on her desk in the office and it doesn't
attract attention from people like a can of pepper spray would.
She also keeps one nearby at home for home protection.
Thought this was interesting and might be of use.

On the heels of a break in and beating that left an elderly woman in
Toledo dead, self defense experts have a tip that could save your life.

Val Glinka teaches self-defense to students at Sylvania Southview
High School . For decades, he's suggested putting a can of wasp
and hornet spray near your door or bed.

Glinka considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective
than mace or pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20 to 30 feet;
so if someone tries to break into your home, Glinka says "spray the
culprit in the eyes". It's a tip he's given to students for decades.

"That's going to give you a chance to call the police; maybe get out."

Maybe even save a life.

Please share this with all the people in your life.

Did you also know that wasp spray will kill a snake? And a mouse! It will!

Good to know, huh?

jan said...

Someone sent me the above. Has anyone heard of this before. I immediately thought of you Carol - for snakes.

jan said...

Carol, you mentioned the inmate above with a touch of schizophrenia. I remember in another post you said that the people who were in mental institutions are now in the jails or prisons. I wonder if there is any data on how many of those who are incarcerated have some sort of true psychosis?

jan said...

Ivy, I miss seeing your pictures of birds.

Thanks for sharing. Check out winter video of the Pagosa Hot Sprigs on my website.

Hi D. West Davies, I did check out your videos and pictures of Pagosa. I loved the bike ride video. Thanks for checking in here. My husb and I fell in love with Pagosa Springs when we visited in May. The area is beautiful and the people are friendly. We plan to return soon.

Jan, Glad to learn all about the many uses for wasp spray. I just put it on my shopping list. You know, it makes so much sense, but I would have never thought of it.

I went to D. West's site too, but didn't check out the videos. I'll do that tomorrow.

Lots of rain here today, and it looks like it may hang around for a while. I love rain, so you won't hear me complain about it, that or the heat. Spring and summer are my favorite times of the year. Fall has it's moments also, but it is way to close to winter - so there's a lot of feelings of dread for me. I get cold before it even gets here.

Except for me and you Jan, the 'swamp' is starting to feel like a ghost town. Glad you're here.

... I'm sure that should have read 'you and me' (not me and you :) - sorry.

Evening folkes. Still dealing with the ridiculous drama of SF abduction. You wouldn't believe what what this hospital is doing. I can't understand how a private hospital can operate like this and get by with it. Couldn't get in touch with the Mental Health Advocate today. They must be taking a extra long holiday weekend. Left multiple messages. Typical government agency.

I asked to meet with SF's shrink and they were supposed to set up a treatment meeting and invite me. I asked them to give me a little prior warning so I can make arrangements to get off work to be there. This idiot SW called about 2p today and said to come now that the Shrink would see me. I said I have a waiting room full of patients and can't leave. I told him they were supposed to give me prior warning. SW said they never know when the shrink would be there, he just drops in when he wants to. I told him that wouldn't do. Oh well, it looks like we will just have to wait until his Medicare reimbursement runs out before he will be set free. He has still not had a visit with that Shrink who is tormenting all of us and he has been incarcerated now since June 12. Nothing I can do without some help. Have done all I can. They have threatened to keep me off the unit. Have the appointment with his lawyer next week.

I took the evening off and went out to eat with a friend. Ordered a Margarita but couldn't even get half of it down, was just too tired. The food was good.

Jan, that's a neat idea about that wasp spray. I don't use any pesticides out here but I will get some to fend off bigger pests. I wonder if it works on Shrinks?

Jan, when they closed all those mental institutions back years ago, most mentally ill people just ended up in jail. We have quite a few in our joint. It's like that everywhere. Not just the poor either. It's very sad.

Fireworks have started and Maggie is glued to my side. She didn't have much to do with me while sis was here but now I'm her best friend.

Ivy, that spider is busy again building her web. Tonight, it is bigger than ever and she has it stretched across my entire path. I wonder if she has a much bigger prey in mind? Me, maybe? Nah, couldn't be....or could it?

Chloe, did you and the Emster have a nice adventure today. Tell us about it.

We were also supposed to have a lot of rain but we didn't get much today. With the passing of that tropical storm/hurricane, I only got a few tenths of an inch. I did appreciate the overcast conditions and more tolerable temps.

Carol said...

And Chloe, remember love here, is never having to correct your spelling or grammar.

And a high point of my day was that two of my nurses said that they thought I needed a hug and they both gave me a big one.

"And Chloe, remember love here, is never having to correct your spelling or grammar.'

Perfect Carol.

I am going to get some wasp spray too.
