Carol,

Thanks to Jan for getting that pic up. I just went over to Facebook, and saw the picture of your black eye (ouch!), but still can't find the baby picture there.

She is so beautiful, Aunt Carol!
Sorry for your injury. I'm always banging myself up (from getting in a hurry), so I know the feeling of cuts, bumps and bruises.

Take care.

... and thanks, Jan... for grabbing that pic and bringing it over. The blogosphere has been a challenge for me lately.

Nice pictures… beautiful baby!

I'm here only in the early morning. A week from this Thursday I will be setting up for my annual 9-day fair.
It's crunch time and I'm getting tired. I need to finish my weaving and take a few days off before the fair.

Carol said...

I need som medical grade leeches to get rid of this black eye. They do have such a thing. One little leech and I would be good as new

jan said...

Carol, I saw your eye on fb. It does look painful. I had a black eye once. It looked worse than it felt. It goes through many color changes.

Carol said...

It doesn't hurt only hurts to look at myself in the mirror.

Greta fried up a mess of catfish last night . All that river out there and she had to buy them.

Carol said...

Good luck Renee with your fair

jan said...

Renee, hope your fair is a productive one for you. Look forward to hearing how it goes.

Unknown said...

Renee,

Hope you have loads of fun at your Fair this year and that it is a prosperous season for you. I'm sure your creations are beautiful, as always.

Unknown said...

Carol,

I don't think I've ever had a black eye (yet!), but have had just about every other type of bruise and injury.

... don't think there's much to do that will hurry it along.

Take care!

ps I finally finished The Glades a week or so ago. Now am very much enjoying The Mentalist. Lots of our series will be continuing this fall, including Downton Abbey, if I'm not mistaken.

Problem is, I prefer to watch a whole season (or at least multiple episodes) all at once now. Much more enjoyable and absorbing that way, in my opinion.

Carol said...

Chloe, the blood pouch below my eye is so full that I'm waiting for it to burst. I have a doc spot in the morning. Maybe she will try to aspirated some of that blood out. We have had quite a time with the aspberger kid tonight sometimes I worry he might go off like a missile and hurt someone. A little scary at times. He really doesn't seem to be able to control it.

Unknown said...

Carol,
I don't know much about Aspbergers, but I do know anyone with any type of mental problems can potentially be a problem to themselves and those around them. The unpredictability can be scary, and with kids... they do have so little control. Hope things stay under control.

Please let us know what your doc says about your eye injury today. Hopefully she can bring you some relief.

If it ain't one thing, then it's another. Truer words....

... hang in there, Carol.

Ran across this article while quickly scanning Drudge this morning: Seniors share homes for cost saving, companionship

In this July 17, 2014 photo, Carolyn Allen, left, a 69-year-old widow who has suffered two strokes, makes her way to the living room with roommate Marcia Rosenfeld, who owns the apartment Allen lives in New York. The two women are roommates thanks to a home-sharing program run by a New York-based nonprofit agency. Rosenfeld's two-bedroom apartment is too big for her, and even with a senior citizen's rent break, at over $1,000 a month, it was too expensive, so she is happy to have Allen help share living expenses. Allen doesn't want to live alone and doesn't want to spend a lot on rent, so she and Rosenfeld agree the program suits their individual needs.

Companionship is an important side benefit.

"Independence is great but isolation as we age is a growing concern, so companionship can be almost life-altering," Dunn said. "People are telling us they're happier, sleeping better, eating better. ... If I could sell you a drug that did that, you'd pay a lot of money."

Carol said...

I don't think id take another drug Chloe, already on too many and I was never one for handling taking much medicine.

Carol said...

I guesswork didn't manage to coax Solar over to our den.

Come on little boy, come on over to see the women's here. I stayed up late waiting for ya. Don't make a feeble old lady wait. I have some coffee waiting for you. Come over, drink your coffee and watch the rive run by. It will cure most everything that ails ya.

Jan and her hubs are headed this way in Oct. let's have a reunion. I guess it a union since we have had that yet.

Do ya still lurk over here occasionally.

Hi all. My sister is visiting and have not had much time to check in here. We are having a great time.

Hope all are ok.

Carol said...

Sister and having a great time! I'd love to say that in the same sentence. Now, fort my several new friend/sister, what my old friend Kathy calls foresters, it is always true. It used to be true for my real sisters but they seem to insist on screwing that up and it is usually because I wont march to their drum. Cite control issues. I have one friend with control issues but it come when the rest of us need it. Sometimes, someone has to take control. I don't mind that.

Carol said...

Took a late nap and went to bed early and popped up at 3:30. Made coffee and back to bed. There are 4 of us at the camp with 4 dogs. Don't feel lonely anymore. I prefer this.

We were supposed to go out fishing in Greta and Karen larger boat, near the lake. Which is salt water or fresh water fishing. Boat wont start , dang it. My usual and best boat/mechanic man is in prison. I just hate that. Seems like when you need a useful man these days, he is in jail/prison. remember La has a very high incarceration rate for adults.

We were out fishing all afternoon in the hot as he'll temp. I think heat index was 104. Steam was coming off me. It was fun and there are many more bites in salt water. But not sure I will ever go again in the middle of the day. I just can't take that heat. It sucks the life out mr. Always has., even when I was young. But then my thyroid was high.

How do you train a teenager?? I'm no longer disappointed I didn't have any kidsRAt.

ROFLMAO, Carol!!

There's no tougher job in the whole world, and your life is never again truly your own. All I can say is it takes a LOT of love.

I completely understand the decision to not have kids. A lot of people would probably make that decision if they knew the hard ships involved... if they could see into the future.

Good to see that all is well around here...

Summer is flying by...the last weekend of July already & its been
pretty nice...no 90 degree day runs, not much humidity...all around a pretty nice summer..

No particular news here, had some company from Myrtle Beach visiting & it was great to be with someone again who I had not been around for maybe 20 years, & you know it was just like old times, we didn't seem to miss a beat...

Anyone else notice how quickly the seasons fly by...

Renee, good wishes for the upcoming fair...hope you can find some time to snap a pic or 2 of the fair itself...it would be fun
to get a look at your booth, your
latest pieces & the other artisans too...

Carol...a new camper...are you about to join the ranks of the
'road warriors'...any plans yet
for travel destinations...Have you gone anywhere with it yet...

Jan, sounds like you are so enjoying spending time with you sister...always good to
share time with family & old friends...

Chloe, seems like you are always on the run...Emma sure keeps you going...seems like just yesterday that she was a baby...

And by the way, I have tried to post some pics of summer in CT a couple of times...but no luck, it just does not let the pics load, just spins & nothing...not sure why it changed, haven't forgotten
you guys, but no idea why I can't post any pics...everyone take care for now..

jan said...

Coreen, so good to see you here. Nice you are having some good weather and a pleasant summer. Yes, it is so nice to catch up with old friends.

Carol, I cannot take the heat in the middle of the day either. I like being home in the middle of the day.

The teenage years can be really tough for everyone.

My sis and I have gone through a bunch of my pictures and made copies. That was fun and also took some time. We have eaten out a lot and brought food in and did a little cooking too. We all 3 love sitting out early in the morning with our caffeine of choice and watch the birds and Ryley, especially the hummingbirds. We had a very hard rain this afternoon which was wonderful. Had to bring in all the chair and swing cushions. It was a hard driving rain. Much needed. Was lovely tonight. Very cool!

Carol said...

Long dang day today. Karen and I went shopping. Dropped off some clothes to was to my house. . Had a list of stuff to get. That was a tiny minority of what we got.

I did get a new purse.any time I dropped something in the old one, it was officially list I had to pray to st Christophwe to find it.

I also got a new belt. I'm no longer an unofficial member of the homeboys. I'm tired of wait for my pant to hit the floor.

Those were the high lites of the shopping trip. Karen and I laughed thru most of it.
No, I not getting up this rarely, I'm just getting to bed . Stumbled to my bed ,still half asleep to find that the feeble dog had some how gotten in my bedroom , poor baba by. I'm scared to get him out because he's a biter. I think he was looking for water. They take up his water because to lays over his water bowl drinking and peeing.
This afternoon we all got into kayaks and paddle boats and tooled around our area of the river. It's starting to look like a Boy Scout camp here.

I'm still frustrated with our teenager. It's impossible to get much help out of him when he does help, he claims the role of supervisor and barks order to the rest of us.

Carol said...

We had steaks for supper and after my second bowl of I ice cream. I fell asleep. Now I hope I can sleep in. I did all of the above on just a couple of hours of sleep,

Loved reading your story in the last couple of paragraphs, Carol. You really missed your calling, you should have been a writer. You take serious things and make them funny (what ellse can you do). Love it.

For some reason I found my horoscope funny this morning too. Here's part of it:

Those around you are harder to deal with than usual -- but where can you go? It's just one of those days when you need to accommodate people a little more than usual. You can endure.

... it just occurred to me that I see humor (more and more) in almost everything (what better way to cope!).

Unknown said...

So good to see how upbeat you and Coreen so upbeat, Jan. Loved hearing about what's going on in both your lives.

It was nice to hear from you, Coreen. Life sounds like it's going well.

And, Coreen, what you say is true... I do feel like I'm on the run a lot, but in reality... I know, I'm just spinning my wheels.

As you said, the seasons fly by, but even more so... the years fly by (and there doesn't seem to be any way to slow them down).

Unknown said...

Hope you're selling lots of stuff at your Fair, Renee.

Even more so, hope you're having lots of fun!

Ahhhhh…. Rick was gone for the weekend with his Dad… they flew down to Maryland to visit his brother. I had the house to myself… my weaving is done!… and my packing is done! Had a glorious weekend hanging out with friends. Went out to eat… went to a play… and just plain ol relaxed.

Rick got home late last night. He also had a great weekend visiting with family. We set up for my fair on Thursday. Saturday, Aug. 2nd, is opening day.
Now I have a few more days to relax… gonna do a bit of reading and going out to eat.

Glad everyone here seems to be enjoying the summer.

Jan, looks like u may get a lt of rain today, may even some flash floods

Carol said...

Haven't heard from u in a while Corine! Gotta check in.
Got a little more sleep yesterday evening but still tired. Will take a while to catch up with my deprivation. May not be able to.

Unknown said...

Hey, Carol... did you see Coreen's comment a ways up thread?

She's doing well.

jan said...

Carol, Sunday we got a really heavy rain but no flooding here. We are on a pretty high level. There were flash flood warnings. When those are going on we stay home and if we are out, we stay put until it is clear. We have not gotten in a flash flood since living here. But we sure got in some in Louisiana.

Hope you are doing good.

RebelliousRenee said...

Coreen…
I saw on the news last night that the reason we in New England (and much of the middle of the country) are having such a nice summer is because of the weather pattern that is causing the drought in California.

I always bring a fan to my fair and usually run it non-stop while I'm in my booth. I'm still bringing it… but I might not really need it this year. I checked the weather channel website for the 10-day forecast of the town the fair is in…. they're saying it's going to be in the mid to low 70s the entire time.

That's good news for us craftsmen. People won't be clamoring to go to the beach. And cooler temps means happier and livelier shoppers. It means they'll want to try on my scarves.

RebelliousRenee said...

As of tomorrow I'll be tied up with my fair until mid August. Carol, Chloe, Coreen, and Jan… I wish you and your families all the best for that time. I will take some pictures of my booth and the fair to post here.

Unknown said...

Hey, Renee.

I jumped the gun last time, but once again am wishing you the best at your fair (we'll miss you).

Doing what you love, and good weather too. Enjoy!

Coreen said...

Renee, am looking forward to seeing your fair 'up close & personal'...

& yes the weather pattern bringing us the cool summer
is fantastic...

don't think July has had any 90 degree days here & as you are also experiencing, most days with no humidity, which is the best!...

Carol said...

I was just about to ask you to take some pics of your booth at the fair when I read that you would do that Renee.

glad to hear from you Coreen. I'm at Greta's and Karens for a few days. Miss the camp. I think that is all of our favorite places to stay.

The temps have been a little nicer here also. Just a little. We do break 90 often. I wish we didn't. This house is kept so cold that I have to wear a jacket inside.

Carol said...

I'm hoping we don't let theSwamp dry up. We haven't been posting here for a while and when I do, it seems to disappear.

jan said...

Hi all,
We are having a different summer. The weather is lovely. So cool for this time of year. We are having unusual rainfall. For the 3rd time since living here, we had a little flooding in our basement. We had over 2 inches of rain in less than 2 hours. We were asleep. Woke up to soggy carpet in a small room off the bath in the basement. I am going to find a contractor and try and find out where it is coming in. We are fortunate that our house is up high and our streets do not flood out front but there were flooded streets in our area.

My sis and I are having so much fun that the soggy carpet did not dampen our spirits. We have been to old town and up on the mountain crest. We have cut and colored our hair and today went for pedicures. I am not looking forward to her going home. I told her she can come live here with us if she wants.

jan said...

I hope you all are having a good summer.

Carol, sounds like you are having fun at Karen's and Greta's house.

Renee, hope your fair is a big success.

Coreen, hope you and Renee meet up at the fair.

Chloe, hope Houston area is being kind to you weather-wise.

Jan,

Is your sister considering your invitation to live with you and John?
It is so good to hear how much fun you two are having together.

As Carol mentioned, we've had relative mild weather this summer. The coolest summer I've seen here (as I said, relative to normal summers here). Plenty of rain to keep things green and happy, but not enough to cause hardships.

I wonder if this cool winter we are all having means a colder than normal winter, or maybe a 'mild' winter too?

Carol, glad to hear that you have plenty of companionship and help in your life right now. Hope to hear more about what's going on in your life. Please stay in touch with us.

Unknown said...

... I found Renee's information about California's drought and weather being what is making the rest of our weather more comfortable interesting.

As I've mentioned before, Southern California is mostly desert, but they keep it green with lots of water. I imagine that's changed with the water shortage and subsequent restrictions they have there. A shortage of water will always be their downfall, and probably one of the biggest reasons for their economical problems... including inflation of property, living and every thing else.

Unknown said...

It's a 'really' beautiful state though, a nice dry climate and I'll always miss the beauty of their mountains.

Life's about trade-offs, and I couldn't be happiest happier with our decision to spend our life here. This state has been so good to us, and I am forever grateful. No way we could have ever owned a significant piece of land in Ca. Control and privacy are so important to me... and land rights here trump everything else.

I had a serious Twilight Zone moment. Greta and I had come back to the camp after dropping Shay at his Boy Scout meeting. Had some piazza and fell into a coma in my chair. Never heard or saw anything the rest of the evening. I woke up at 1:30 am.,no one around. Couldn't find Greta. Was scared she may be laying outside mangled on the stairs. I yelled for her. Ada. Her bedroom door was locked. I thought maybe she has gone to sllep but I couldn't get in to check
Karen hadn't come home yet when I fell asleep. After banging on Greta's door, Karen finally came out to tell me that Greta was sleeping. So good to see another human. And know I wasn't on earth alone. Or here alone. I told them to never leave me here alone. But I wasn't sure. I don't like Twilight Zone moments.

Unknown said...

Carol,
I have more and more 'Twilight Zone' moments too. Maybe not as scary as yours, but still they can be disconcerting. I normally just move on to the next thing, realizing that there is something that I'm just momentarily not seeing.

I think you and I are always looking for complete logic in everything (who isn't!). But the world is changing so fast that that sometimes things just don't make sense. All we can do is have a little faith and move on.

I had an ok fair…. had a very good opening weekend… followed by a so-so Mon-Fri…. then another very good weekend. Most of my fellow exhibitors had the same experience.

Now I'm exhausted…. have a mountain of laundry… desperately need to go to the grocery store… and lots of little things that I held off doing until after the fair.

I did take pictures…. won't post them until later in the week… I need to get some stuff done.

I love doing that fair… but boy it feels good to be back home...

I've got my laundry done…. I've gone grocery shopping… and I've at least swept my floors.

Good to hear from you and how fair went. Look forward to pictures when you get time.

jan said...

Carol, yes I did see the post about unfinished stuff. I will try to put it up here if I can find it.

We are on our way back home. Spending another night in Wichita Falls TX. We took my sis home, after all. She has a Dr. appt next wed. We were so close to where she lives, it made sense to drive her home so she did not have to fly home next week. She says she is coming back to stay longer with us in ABQ. I hope so.

jan said...

Funny thing happened when we got to motel. Our door to motel goes to outside and after getting things into room, there were a couple of flies in the room. I hate flies. That is what I love about ABQ - seldom see flies. Anyway. John and I found something to swat them with and we were on a mission to kill the flies. After accomplishing our objective I looked around and did not see Ryley. I called her and she was no where to be seen. I panicked thinking she had slipped outside at some point. John saw her hiding between the bed and a night stand. I had to pull her out. I guess we must have scared her when we were swatting flies. Poor baby!

jan said...

We have been so lucky. The weather has been wonderful. The temps have been in 80's and low 90's on our entire trip. Unheard of in August. We are grateful.
