TAI CHI BENEFITS... written by Solar

I recently found my way back to the Martial Arts a few years ago, and now back to them in a big way: I keep the Mind, Body, and Spirit on a healthy level by practicing Tai Chi, a gentle one for slow movements and deliberate focus and meditation
A more demanding fast one for cardiovascular workouts. Both employ more movement of body parts than swimming believe that swimming uses about 65% of the body, while Tai Chi utilizes much more. . Along with Tai Chi the practice Qi Gong ( meditation) provide stress relieving tools that are on the cutting edge of science and the most effective stress-management exercise in the world. That is saying a lot since 70-80% of illnesses are stress related. . Looking back to 2,000 years ago when it started by doing an 18 stretching movement that was taught to monks, then grew Tai Chi. I mostly use the Kuang Ping Yang style 64 movement long form. It is worth stating that all Tai Chi styles are powerful health and wellness techniques. . We know that worrying too much can cause an ulcer, that chronic anxiety can lead to skin rashes — or all the way to an early grave due to a heart attack. So what was ancient healing in China is cutting age to modern medicine in the west: Welcome Back to the future!
What many western hospital are considering cutting edge treatments for treating cancer, can be found in the 800–year old Taoist Canon at the Simonton Cancer Center. Mental imagery exercises are successfully used to help sufferers live nearly twice as long as their peers who don’ t use imagery techniques. The Taoist Canon wrote of thousands of visualization techniques to heal various conditions’. . Phil Jackson, coach of “Da Bulls” used a form of this — Zen meditation –.and took the multi-personalities of Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman and others to being one of the great basketball teams. . I strongly suggest to those that need daily relief from pain or want to get back to a normal life to start using Tai Chi — super easy, even for those that are restricted in any way. It can drastically reduce high blood pressure, relieves arthritis, help control and lower diabetes. Insomnia and much more. . The second part and complimentary daily exercise, that im fairly new to, Acupressure, a form of acupuncture that one can do on oneself. Whenever I have some body part that is hurting or sore in any way, I look up the point where to press on my self to get the relief that I need. No pain pills are needed or wanted for headaches, back aches, or anything. Acupressure is another Ancient Chinese discovery that is now being used in the West. It was discovered when some soldier was hit by some blunt instrument, stone, or spear. While talking to the doctors about the injury they often made comments about some other part of the body that was problematic or in chronic pain, but suddenly stopped. Little by little these doctors discovered that by using acupressure on some part of the body, the pain disappeared or the patient was greatly relieved. I have used both Tai Chi and acupressure to get a good night sleep. I'm off all sleeping pills that I have taken for years (I still get insomnia once or twice a week, but not 5-6 times per wk). . My primary Doctor at the VA can’t believe that I don’t need to take 6 pills of Gabapentin per day. Now I only take two at bed time and will be going down to one in a couple of wks, then maybe none? . Not only that, I have been getting 1 to 4 shots in my lumbar and other areas for a degenerative disc disease for the last 12 years, and for sciatic pain. Due to the Tai Chi, Qi gong meditations, and acupressure, I won’t need any for a long, long time. . The Tai Chi helped strengthen my overall bone structure. Thanks to the acupressure points, and specific stretches that I learned by trial and error I don’t need to get any shots at all. . Although Tai Chi is a formidable self defense type of martial art what is the most beneficial aspect of it is the healing and meditating process used by breathing in the proper way. That is the secret to our health problems: The way that we breath and the way that we move our body to get healthy, and stay healthy. . When we have an illness, an arm that hurts, a leg muscle that is sore, this is blocking the energy flow in that part of the body. By doing gentle stretching in preparation for the gentle movements of Tai-Chi the energy blockage is released allowing a balance of ying and yang. . When we don’t breath properly the atoms in our body squeeze together, tightening us up. When we breath properly the atoms and cells separate from one another.
I see this as a very positive way for the people of the future to take care of themselves and not give away their savings to the health and insurance industry. . If Tai Chi came in a pill form it would be all over TV and the magazines offering a fast cure at Walgreens at a very high cost. But its not. Itis free and fun. Any one can do it whether you are in a wheel chair or just doing it for the fun of it. . By using these simple tools — a sitting meditation, gentle warm up exercises (moving meditation), or Tai Chi (another form of moving meditation) we can learn to control or eliminate many illnesses in adults and children — such as Autism, Alzheimer’s, sciatic pain, epilepsy and, I dare say, almost anything that is wrong with you. It will also get you to eat the right things because you will naturally want to do it. . There is much, much more but you all know how I hate long posts, so I’m off to the park for my daily tune-up of Ta –Chi. I even have the energy to play a little basketball with the kids, or do 100-130 pushups afterwards. I do get a little tired around the middle of the day. It can’t stop my lower back problems, or old age. But it can delay the processes and let us enjoy it a little more. After a 10-minute catnap I’m good until bedtime.
Get American kids off Ritalin, get rid of those doctor bills, high insurance payments, prescription drugs — and get them on to TCM: Traditional Chinese Medicine and herbs. Numerous studies have been done by our doctors, scientists and universities to reveal the advantages that come along with the fun of doing Tai-Chi. Tai Chi Video

Sorry the paragraphs are all run together, Solar. I put the spaces, but they didn't show up. It'll probably take me a while of messing around with posting to get it all figured out again.

If you need help getting logged into Google (I'd recommend a new account with a version of your same name) then email me and I'll help.

You can use Solar for the new account and just do what I did and add a dot into your name if you want. Ex. So.lar or Sola.r or maybe it'll take Solar. (with the dot on the end). Something will work if you have to change your login. Solar.crete? Whatever you like.

I'll have to come back tomorrow to fix that video link above. Meanwhile you'll have to copy and paste. Sorry.

Baby Ducks... It’s hard to fathom anything so precious and cute, but there they are, putting everything else into perspective.

Life is good.

... and if that's not enough, here's a whole page of them saying... Happy 'almost' Spring!

Lots of baby ducks

Unknown said...

The reason I looked up those pictures is because Blue, over at TM, mentioned that she expected the ducks here in our area to arrive in a couple of weeks. That prompted me to post the pic over there, but when I went back to add the comment to it, the image disappeared.

So I decided to just bring it on over here. All I can say about there cuteness... is beyond words. :)

I think Blue lives about 3 hours north of me, in the Dallas, Fort Worth area.

She's east coast like you and Renee, Coreen... and has mentioned moving back to New York in the future.

If anything can turn mean against a southern accent, it's Francis Underwood in the House of Cards series.

First season, his secret service man gave him cuff links for his birthday... with his initials on them. Of course, they're F U. When they panned the camera in on them at the end of season one, I think it may have been the funniest scene in the whole two seasons.

I just didn't see it coming (and I rarely miss the obvious :)).

... should have read: turn 'me' against (not turn mean against).

Freudian slip... ha, I don't know. Maybe I felt mean saying it, but I know characters portrayed as he is, is what turns people off to the south.

Thanks solar for his creation and Chloe for sharing it with us

Yesterday was a terrible day. The ortho nurse put a cast on my injured wrist and she bound the injured area so tight that it was lika a Chinese torture device. I called the afternoon it was put on and left a message for the nurse. She never called me back. That was Friday. By Saturday morning I was in serious distress. I went to an urgent care to get the cast cut off but they didn't have the tools to do it. They tried to use some heavy duty bandage scissors and just further tortured me. I came home, found my Dremel tool and made better progress loosening it up but not enough..last night I finally tried the ERs. Some didn't have the cast cutters and I had to wait forever..i finally got it off very late and got overdue relief.

Not sure why they even put the cast on except they can charge a lot more. I never even as the ortho doc. Didn't even peek in at me. I'll never let anyone put a cast on me again. I was almost ready to saw my arm off. I don't think it's even fractured I think it's a bone bruise and it's more bruised after that fiasco yesterday.

Carol, good grief. Your experience with this cast sounds horrible. I would write someone a letter about your experience. This ortho nurse sounds like she does not like you. I would issue some kind of complaint for the pain and suffering you have experienced. As if you have not had enough pain up to that point.

Thanks to Solar and Chloe for this post. It all looks quite interesting.

Chloe…. thanks for posting this interesting article. Maybe it'll get Solar to pop in here and tell us how he's doing.

Carol… Yikes! So sorry you had to go through all of that. The ER couldn't get if off?…. god what crap! Glad you're finally out of distress.

Carol said...

It was interesting and distressing that none of the urgent care or ERs had a cast cutter. It could be a serious to get a cast off in an emergency. I found my little Dremel daw and was able to get some relief until I found an ER with a cast cutter.

At the ortho office I never even saw the ortho doc just two of his nurses, not even PAs or NPs. The cast was bound too tight right at the area of pain. It was like I had a vice grio on a bone bruise. I think it was a bone bruise. There was one fuzzy area on the X-ray that might have represented a little fracture at the distal end of my right ulna but that wasn't even the most tender area. The most tender area was over the distal radius and that is where the most tenderness was. (Thumb side of my swift.). That is also where the bone scan glowed the most intense.

I need to tell my regular doc. Who is very attentive to me that she needs to stop referring to that ortho. I am in this special program that she is a member of called MDVIP There is a fairly expensive membership fee for the patient. But well worth it in my opinion. I get her personal email, cell numer etc. I can contact her from anywhere at any time. I can get in to see her any time. You can google that program and find a doc who is a member of MDVIP. It's not cheap but for my problems it's well worth it.

I don't recommend using the Dremel to remove a cast. It could be dangerous. But my roomy and I were very careful. I had lots a pain meds but didn't want to take enough to stop the pain because the damn cast was too tight.

Maggie is not very cop friendly. My roomie came into my room to say goodbye and see if I needed anything and Maggie went nuts barking. She had on her cop jacket and hat. Maggie didn't like those. Maggie used to do that to me when she was in bed with big sis.

jan said...

Carol, what an awful experience. Glad you had your roomie to help you with that cast.

Unknown said...

Glad that you took matters into your own hands and solved your problem, Carol. Most people would never have your training and be able to do that.

I'm wondering if no one would remove it because they didn't want to take the liability. That's the name of the game in the last few years.

I'd gone into that Ortho's office the same day he didn't call back, unannounced. They'll do anything to stop people in the waiting room from hearing your complaints.

It's sad that we have to make demands to get any kind of response. They used to most people never even asking questions.

You're very lucky to have found a very good general practitioner. Good for you telling her about the Ortho... you may save someone some future pain.

... your roomy is a jewel!

Just want to add that it sure is nice to have someplace to come and chat with friends in the morning (and other times) at our little 24 hour cafe here.

Thanks again, Carol for building it... and thanks everyone else too, for helping keep it open and running.

Have a great day!

That's the way I order it at McDonalds. Good, very hot, coffee and cheap too. Don't even have to mix it myself.

No muss, no fuss.

Anyone watching a TV series believe it looks like it's going to be interesting. It's going to be three episodes.

Carol said...

Chloe don't hold the coffee between your legs can burn you.but you can make some money. If it does

Unknown said...

Ha, Carol. I never spill hot coffee. I can't believe those people have the nerve to sue over their own carelessness. (I hate lukewarm coffee... like it as hot as I can get it).

What series are you watching?

Have you seen The Good Wife (don't let the title fool you. It's free on Amazon... The Good Wife

... I've only seen 3 or 4 episodes so far, but plan on continuing. I figure it's going into season 5, so it must be OK.

Coffee is ready to think we're short on sugar. We had perfect environmental conditions for sleep last night it rain trickling down I can hear it real well in the bedroom asleep and Itook a sleeping pill eping pill and I still couldn't sleep at all.

Unknown said...

I take over the counter Gaba to fall asleep. Once I fall asleep, I stay asleep (usually).

Gaba obviously isn't for everyone, but it just happens to work well for me. There's no hangover. (hear about it online). Otherwise, the over the counter sleeping pills work, as they are nothing but Benedryl (diphenhydramine), a very common antihistamine that is know to cause drowsiness. You have to lay down right after you take it though.

Also you need some kind of meditation technique (anything that makes you unable to widen your thinking) after you lay down.

Unknown said...

Yumm, delicious coffee as always, Carol.

It's what keeps me coming back to this particular cafe. That, and the friendly atmosphere.

perfect environmental conditions for sleep

Love the you put that. It tells me you're appreciating how beautiful things can be.

Now open your door for a minute, and I bet you'll hear the song birds. If not, just listen to how beautiful the morning silence can be... how good the air feels. The smell of rain.

Wow... isn't it great?

I was checking out of a store yesterday, and found the checker was from Canada originally. When I asked her if the warm climate here didn't bother her, she said she'd been here so long now, that no, it didn't. She also said she lived in Jersey before she got here.

Then the checker next to her said she was from New York. There were about 8 more checkers, and I think if I had walked down the line, they probably would have all been from another state. It's striking how much things have changed here.

Along with all the out-of-staters came a lot of new, better restaurants. It's actually easy to find good food here now. When we first got here, that seemed difficult to do.

We had an interesting conversation (the Jersey-ite, the New Yorker and I), consider the very limited amount of time we had.

It was a pleasant experience.

BTW, Renee. I was in The Woodlands. No better place to go shop and play.

We have been watching The Voice. My new favorite show.

Carol, I remember when you watched and said you liked it much better than Idol. Well, you were right.

A coach on The Voice is going to be Aloe Blacc. He is my new favorite artist. I love his song "Wake me up when its all older." I still don't know how to make a link here.

Chloe, if you get a chance, can you link this song? It has beautiful words and music.
