Beautiful flowers for your mom Coreen. Tell her Happy Mother's Day from all of us. I'm sure she had her hands full raising little Coreen even though I'm sure you thought you were a little angel.
Now here's something to think about...right now I have a couple of cellphones, a computer, 2 TVs, a large copy machine at my office, fax machine, collecting dust here & at the office, always hate to throw them out, but will certainly add to the landfill just like everyone else very soon... Electronics Dum
And you may already know this but the NYT is happy to remind everyone...but don't think it is about to change anyone's habits.... Where do old cellphones go to die
Collecting stuff...in the end, no one wants your stuff...but it is still hard to let go of stuff...I marvel at the amount of stuff accumulated in 15 years living in this house...and everytime I think about it, I just say oh well another day.... The 700 Doll problem
Beautiful flowers Coreen. Thank you for the new post. We needed the color. Please wish your mother a Happy Mother's Day from me. You are so fortunate to have your mother this M'sDay and she is lucky to have a wonderful daughter like you. I am sure she is very proud of you.
I too am concerned about all the e-waste. A couple of weeks ago a local business was collecting used cell phones and computers so we made a donation. We have 2 fax machine/printers in the garage. John is not ready to get rid of them yet though they are obviously not being used. We got new printers with our MacBooks. They don't fax but they do scan. John paid about $400. each for these fax machines several years ago so he hates to part with them. Just taking up space.
John left for Cloudcroft about 2 hours ago. I was going with him but was sick thurs and friday and decided I should stay home. Still not feeling too good. He is doing a service in their little church.
Coreen... beautiful! Seems like you're the only one of us who still has her mother... please wish her a happy mother's day from me.
Jan... so sorry that you haven't been feeling well... get better soon. I've haven't had the pleasure of visiting Cloudcroft, but have been told it's a very beautiful place.
Carol... I'm well aware of which fuchsia you love. I'll get one... but it may not be until late next week. It's raining and bringing in a cold front. We're supposed to have temps that go below freezing at night early next week. The fuchsia will be better off staying in the flower farm's greenhouse.
George Carlin has the best monologue on "stuff"... you can find it on youtube.
I spent most of the day at a craft fair.... not as an exhibitor... just a visitor. Many of my craft buddies do this fair as their first one of the season. The weather wasn't very good today... so their weren't many customers. So we partied instead. It's nice to see them after a long winter.
Coreen, I have quite a few things like that that need to be disposed of. That's what's good about having two places because I don't know what to do with them. If I had a backhoe I could bury them in the back yard.
Going to start on a t-shirt quilt for a grandson. I have had his t-shirts for over a year now. When he brought them to me, I was having problems with my right shoulder and could not work on it. It has been fine now for at least 9 months.
Thanks for the kind words Renee. I am feeling better, but did not want to spend the night away from home. I have been waking up with a headache around 2-3 every morning. I usually get up and fix a cup of tea and take a tylenol. I go to another room so as not to wake John. Hard to do this away from home.
If you check in soon, you may be still able to catch one of the Dixie Chicks on CBS show now. Also something on the return of the midwife. Jan, check it out.
Happy Mother's Day to you all for your smooth skinned babies or your fur or feather babies.
Carol, since LI Medium starts a new season tonite, looks like TLC will be running reruns all afternoon to the start of the new season...
Oh & Carol, daughter in law of my BFF grew up in LI & she & her mom went to see John Edward way back when for Free & last year saw Theresa in CT...she thought that they were both interesting & entertaining, but were not read by either of them...
Happy Mother's Day to all those who nurture any of God's creatures, and to all the mothers of invention.
It has been a good day. One of my grandson's Ben came over and we had breakfast together. My son, Terry, came by and brought me a beautiful plant and visited a while and John is home. We are going out to son, Bill's house to have dinner with family. A lovely day. Got a good start on Ben's t-shirt quilt.
Carol, I watch "Call the Midwife" It is a good one. This is the 2nd season. It has been on for at least a year now. It is on Sunday nights. Even if you are not interested in childbirth, it is worth a watch. The time period is 1950's.
I have been waking up really early with a terrible headache. I read my back lit "nook" at night before sleep. I did not read it last night and woke up with no headache. I also did not watch much tv yesterday and last night too. I did read my Time magazine so it is not reading. Will do same thing tonight to check this out again. I do hate giving up my Nook. Wonder if an e-reader without the back lighting would have same effect.
Jan.... hope you didn't wake up this morning with a headache. It'll be interesting to see how this experiment turns out for you... and I do hope it turns out in your favor.
Last night I watched my beloved Bruins hockey team beat the Toronto Maple Leafs in game 7. The Bruins were down 4-1 in the last 8 minutes of the game. They scored and it became 4-2. With less than 2 minutes left, the Bruins pulled their goalie and had an extra offensive player on the ice. They scored 2 goals in 30 seconds to tie the game. They won early in an overtime period. I'm still in disbelief.... that's one of the best hockey games I've ever seen.
Now it's on to the semi quarter finals with the New York Rangers. Yup... it Boston vs New York once again. GO BOSTON!
Yes, Renee, thought you would be happy about your hockey team's win...listening to NY Rangers fans on the Fan, they were elated that their guys pulled it off & are eager to match up against Boston...
Don't know about causing headaches but think we mentioned awhile back that there are concerns that night reading with backlit screen gadgets were causes of sleep deprivation...
And while I know its not pc can't help but finding it humorous to see the media/press reaction to the revelation that this administration has secretly seized their phone records...whilefor the most part, they did a big yawn initially about the IRS overreaching conduct concerning those pesky right wing groups...
Have learned over the years, through clients, that the IRS is the last govt entity you want looking over your shoulder...
Did you watch the Voice last night Coreen? I think they will lose two but I couldn't guess which two. Some that I didn't like that much last week were better last night.
Did you hear about Angelina Jolie. Good for her, cut her chances of getting breast cancer from 87% to 5% by mastectomy and reconstruction. I have a SIL who has that breast cancer gene too. She makes bi yearly trips to MD Anderson for tests.
Whether & who the IRS should or should not audit is not the issue for me in the latest reports... but the hypocrisy of the media who as long as the IRS was causing pain for those that they have contempt for, not to mention that for the most part the media in total have been cheerleaders & supporters of Obama & his adm. to the point they could not offer any objective reporting on him & his adm., but once the administration through DOJ targeted their own, they are bent out of shape, wringing their hands about 1st amend rights & so obvious about their outrage that it is comical...
Illustration, the NYT originally had the IRS revelations back somewhere in the middle of the front news section, 'nothing to see here folks' but lo & behold the AP phone records seizure makes front page top of the fold article...it wasn't important or newsworthy when the irs was targeting those they despise but when its them oh my god how dare they....
Carol, the voice 12, did watch at least a bit of the singers, was not overly impressed by the song choices...
Only like the 3 women I mentioned last week (Danielle the country singer has a really good voice, but I can not get beyond its country) which I just don't like...My choice is still Judith, then Sasha or Danielle...any of the 3 should win, but who knows..
as for the rest of the 12, just didn't like any of them more than the others...
As for DWTS, Kelley & Derek are the best & honestly the 3 finalists should be the 3 women celebs...I forget their names, the olympian, the teen (was she a disney? celeb) & Kelley...but I'm not choosing them...
Every time I come here, those lovely flowers take my breath away.
Coreen... it sounds like you are not a hockey fan... but I say good luck to the New York Rangers anyways. May they be worthy opponents.
I agree with you Carol that all political entities should be audited. I also agree with you Coreen that the media at times can be a joke... actually, most of the time.
Coreen, I agree - Kelly and Derek are the best dancers. Kelly looks like she has been dancing for years. Yet she has no dancing experience. I remember her from Idol. She has matured a lot. She got a lot of teasing about her accent and her lack of sophistication.
I do like the other female dancers, Ali and Vandallia or something like that. I think she is a Disney kid. She has been on some teen dramas on Tv.
Jan, I can't watch both Dancing and the Voice here at the camp. I don't have that record feature here so I just watch the Voice. I could go online and watch it but I don't.
I had a friend who did the same thing Angelina did. She was one of about 16 kids and two of her sisters died of breast cancer. They were both pretty young. That was almost 20 years ago. She moved to Mobile so I haven't seen her in a long time. We taught together.
I didn't know that the Voice was #1 but I can see why. I'm pretty picky and I like it a lot. I'm also not a big singing show fan. I do like that America's Got Talent because of the variety.

I like it how all the coaches compliment the singers on other team. They don't play it cut throat. Like I've said before, the coaches provide half the attraction for me. I wonder if that is the same for others.
Several of those who I thought might get eliminated tonight have already been saved soooo that means someone who I really liked will be leaving. They eliminate two tonight. Darn.
Renee, congrats on your hockey team. I heard about what they did on the sports show I listen to in my vehicle. And congrats to you Coreen for your Yanks finally climbing to the top of their division. Yes, I know it's still early.
We've been taking in the bird feeders every night about 8 o'clock. Just as Rick was going down stairs to bring them in at 7:59 last night... there's a bear taking down the pole. I opened a window and yelled at it. It took off... but stopped just behind a tree and watched us as we picked up the feeders (which were thankfully undamaged ).
Rick has righted the pole once again. Guess we gotta take the feeders in at 7:45....
Jan... he was outside about 30-40 yards away watching us while we picked up the bird feeders. It's a black bear and they are afraid of people. If it was a mother with cubs, that'd be a different story... but it's not.
Hey guys, we went from chilly to summer again today...enjoying a pleasant breeze coming in the windows now that the sun is dropping behind the trees...
Had to go buy a new tv, since my mom's just cut out yesterday, they are bringing it tomorrow (& taking away the heavy old one, remember that stuff accumulating, not this time, out it is going!) from 36" to 50" Sony...
went to a local family owned appliance store actually the one where I bought all the appliances when I had this house built 15 years ago...glad they are still in business...I was dreading the thought of going to best buy or pc richard....& since they have to deliver the new one anyway, decided to replace another tv in the kitchen, so getting a 32" to replace the heavy old 20" on the counter..
I must gloat a little. For the first time in several years, my favorite singer, Candice Glover, won Anerican Idol. The 1st runner up was an amazing singer but Candice has a voice like honey. You go Candice. Have a wonderful career. A great show tonight.
So... I should let the bear rip apart my bird feeders while I'm getting my camera... I'd have to take the picture through the window... cuz the moment I open the door, it bolts off... lol...
And it usually comes around at night... the other day when it came at dusk and I could see it (cuz it's kinda hard to miss a huge fat ass black animal) was unusual. And it only comes when it can smell the bird food. I'm taking the feeders in at 7:00 now. I hope not to see it again. But if I do, I'll think about your request :)
Well Renee, the short answer is well yes!!...Having a camera close by when unexpected things happen is not so easy...I sure know that...remember my bobcat sightings, only twice & neither time was a camera nearby....
A reason to have an iphone with you at al times...there's a tv ad that says more photos are taken with an iphone than any other camera...
The bear & the birdseed feeder though does give me some concern, if it is watching you & sees where you store it, could it try to get in there..not to mention, running after you while you bring it in...
I think we will have all new judges in Idol next year. I read Keith Urban wants to stay. It is time for Randy Jackson to go. He does not contribute that much. The judges were not that helpful this time. Nikki Minaj was rude to Mariah Carey on numerous occasions. I watched it for the talent and there was amazing talent this season. The judges were a distraction actually. I usually taped the show and just watched the singing.
Or Renee, you could get 'Goggle Glass' & just blink a picture!...
Having read about this latest google gadget, cringing when I did, here's a NYT bit that only reinforces my headshaking at the pace of technology...the future when a person simply interacts with self to the exclusion of the rest of humankind is closer than I would like to imagine... Goggle glass cameras even in the bathroom
No Iphone or Google Glasses for me. For the cost of an Iphone and data plan for a year, we could buy a couple of plane tickets to Maui... now that's something I'd wouldn't mind spending our money on!
Black bears rarely attack humans. And when they do it's mostly a mother with young cubs. We bring the bird feeders into our house at night. Bears have been known to break into sheds.... but I've never heard of one that broke into a house.
Like I said... we're bringing in the feeders much earlier now... hopefully we won't see big fatass anymore.
Sorry guys for my absence. I've been having some bad belly pain and can't find a cause. Even broke down and went to see my doc. My tests came out OK. I just can't eat anymore and I lost all the weight that I gained plus some. Didn't mind losing weight but when something interferes with my feeding, that's serious. I wonder if this is all in my head but I can't understand why it's killing my stomach. I've tried every OTC stomach med they have available and nothing helps.
Renee, get Rick to go out and wave that bird seed around and you can have your camera ready to take a pic of that bear. Rick sounds like he's pretty athletic, he can run.
That tornado in Texas was scary. I've watched some of those storm chaser shows recently. I don't know how they do it but they seem to know what they are doing and maybe they are safer than those stuck in one place. I don't know how people can live in areas that are higher risk for tornadoes.

Sharing my mom's flowers for Mother's Day with everyone...
Roses, peonies, hydrangeas, snapdragons...

In case you aren't sure which are my fav colors for my fav flowers....
My favorite Fuchsias
That flower is truly one of nature's miracles.
Never had much luck with fuschias, and really have no place to hang a basket of them...but they are a most interesting flower....

Not a bad start to Mother's Day, the rain passed it's partly cloudy...not too hot, they say it is going to get windy & colder later today...
Thanks from my mom for your good wishes...and from both of us to
all of you...have a great Mother's

Wow, another chilly morning here...yesterday it didn't make it past 54, & it's starting out windy & crisp again...
Just heard that Minnesota is going to bake under 96 degrees. That's some weird weather. Glad it's not here yet.
Did you watch the Voice last night Coreen? I think they will lose two but I couldn't guess which two. Some that I didn't like that much last week were better last night.
Coreen, I think all the political groups should be audited.
Taped the Voice last night and watched DWTS. Will watch the Voice later this afternoon. Cannot watch both shows in one evening - just too much TV.
Did you hear about Angelina Jolie. Good for her, cut her chances of getting breast cancer from 87% to 5% by mastectomy and reconstruction. I have a SIL who has that breast cancer gene too. She makes bi yearly trips to MD Anderson for tests.
Does anyone here watch DWTS any longer - or is it just me?

I agree with you Carol that all political entities should be audited. I also agree with you Coreen that the media at times can be a joke... actually, most of the time.
Coreen, I agree - Kelly and Derek are the best dancers. Kelly looks like she has been dancing for years. Yet she has no dancing experience. I remember her from Idol. She has matured a lot. She got a lot of teasing about her accent and her lack of sophistication.
I do like the other female dancers, Ali and Vandallia or something like that. I think she is a Disney kid. She has been on some teen dramas on Tv.
zendeya - I think is the name of the teen dancer. She is so good to be so young.
I think Ingo is the one to go tonight. I would not mind if the football player went home. I get tired of Carrie Ann going into orgasmic fits over him.
I see that the Voice is the #1 reality show.
I do keep up with who gets the boot on DWTS. So far, this season, it seems that the elimination is pretty much who it should be.
I didn't know that the Voice was #1 but I can see why. I'm pretty picky and I like it a lot. I'm also not a big singing show fan. I do like that America's Got Talent because of the variety.
Coreen, there were songs they did last night that I have never heard of.
I wonder if Garrett will go tonight. His judge saved him last week. The competition is very tough. I hope they all get some kind of contract along the way;
Sarah was saved by her coach last week. I like her. She sang a song I'd never heard of.
I like it how all the coaches compliment the singers on other team. They don't play it cut throat. Like I've said before, the coaches provide half the attraction for me. I wonder if that is the same for others.
Renee, seeing those flowers Coreen put up perk me up also. Still looking forward to seeing some Fuchsias...if I get lucky.
I like Sarah, Michelle and Danielle. I do like the Swan brothers too. I am a country fan.
I will ditto CArol on the congratulations on your teams wins, Coreen and Renee.
I like the quality of Sarah's voice. Very nice and her voice stands out from the rest.
Chris is singing. Like him too.
All my favs got through tonight on the Voice.
We've been taking in the bird feeders every night about 8 o'clock. Just as Rick was going down stairs to bring them in at 7:59 last night... there's a bear taking down the pole. Renee, What a pesky bear. Do you ever worry about running into him outside?
Jan... he was outside about 30-40 yards away watching us while we picked up the bird feeders. It's a black bear and they are afraid of people. If it was a mother with cubs, that'd be a different story... but it's not.

glad your favorite singer won Idol. About time a girl finally won again.

Carol, where are you? You are not around much here and I am concerned about you. I don't see you over at TM either. What is going on? I miss you.
Coreen, I heard that iPhone commercial also. It is more convenient to take pics with your iPhone since it should be with you all the time.
That tornado in Texas was scary. I've watched some of those storm chaser shows recently. I don't know how they do it but they seem to know what they are doing and maybe they are safer than those stuck in one place. I don't know how people can live in areas that are higher risk for tornadoes.
Carol, did not realize you are having such stomach pain. Are you seeing a GI specialist?
