The cat whisperer

Well, they have run me ragged, driven me nut, wore me out.  After they disappeared yesterday, I was sure mama kitty had run off her kit kats.  They were nowhere to be found. I also saw a big Tom cat in the yard yesterday and figured if it wasn't mama, it may have been him that sent my babies packing.  Then late in the day yesterday I finally found those babies....up in a tree.  Wasn't great timing since I was stove up and could barely stand up.  With some help, the tree came down and babies came out.  I wasn't even sure how many were up there and the ones that were, scattered and I didn't see them again.  This morning, no kitties.   I had a serious heart to heart talk with mama kitty and told her she had let me down.  If they were still around, I certainly couldn't spend all night and day outside watching over them.  She looked me right in the eye and did seem to be paying close attention to what I was saying even though she was spitting and hissing at me.  She does have an attitude problem.  If those babies would just let me catch them, I might have already had them in the bed with Maggie and me, but they won't. They just refuse to tame up.

I filled up their kitty dish with food just in case they were still around.  After my serious talk with mama kitty I went back inside. I came back outside a couple of hours later and there they were... and mama kitty said..."well, is this better"?  Babies didn't disappear again today and for most it it, they stayed on that chair.

Thats an excellent development this morning...it upsets me to think that the fur kids are roaming away so I can imagine how
difficult it is for you there...

Does sound like mother kitty was listening to you & hopefully they will all stay home...

I've got the learn that there are some things I just can't control but not write off that there are some things I should still try to do what little I can. I guess that's where the Serenity Prayer comes in...

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

I would say it in another way, influence what you can do in your own surroundings...take care of those in your own personal sphere of influence...while the issues of the world may be upseting, most of us can only help those around us, friends, family, neighborhood...& honestly those things you do around you, do matter...

Well Coreen, I think that is a little self serving attitude. The residents in Newtown need our help. We all do need to raise our voices to do something about this gun issue. I just can't ignore that the consequences of not doing anything has results in this unimaginable tragedy. I signed the petition and will write my people here in my state. That doesn't take much of an effort.

I have a friend who has a grown 20 something year old son at home. He does nothing except party, bring home girls to screw and sleep. He has 2 Glocks in the house.

My friend asked her sister if that scared her. She said that it didn't but then she is a serious alcoholic and shortly after the sun comes up, she's so blasted that she can't talk without slurring her words.

This young man's family bought him a good education but he says he can't find a job except one that pays $8/ hour and that's not worth working for. His mom can't make him move out because his father won't let her. His father is gone all day working.

His mother told my friend that he and his friends think that there is no hope for his generation, that they have no future.

I just wonder how many in his age group might feel the same way. Heck, did the Newtown shooter feel the same way? Maybe he saw no future for himself or the young children.

I've kinda ruled out a psychotic break because his rampage was too well planned out, down to smashing his computer. Seems that if he wanted to make a statement he would have left some clues. And if he was really a vegan, would he have no empathy like a psychopath or sociopath? I think not.

Carol said...

They don't want to focus on the shooter but IMO, in order to fight the enemy, you must understand who they are and how they got that way.

Carol said...

Even if he smashed his computer, is it possible to track some of his Internet activity if they find the name of his Internet server?

Carol said...

Some of the people up in Newtown are tired of having all the media around but for some it helps to know that so many people in the world care and are showing their love and sympathy.

When mama died, which was the greatest loss in my life, the week that my other family members were around and so much was going on, was probably the easiest. When they all left and I was alone with that loss, it really hit me hard.

I think that might be the same for the people in Newtown. Some of the families in there have reached out to the media to share what was so special about the ones they lost. I can see that it gives them strength to do that. Having so many of us share their pain might take just a tiny edge off that horrible pain.

Something else I found interesting was that some families found some peace in the fact that their child took their final journey with their friends. They could imagine them all holding hands. I can understand that. When my father died, his father had died 24 hours before he died. I found some peace because I could visualize his father coming to get him. He wasn't alone.

Carol, glad your kitties returned.

We have been out of computer contact and TV for 4 days. We stayed in a small house John's brother owns in LR and there was no TV or internet service. It was not that bad. I did some reading. We are now in Arkadelphia where my son lives and back in civilization. I have missed all the new about the shooting.

jan said...

I read the article about the woman with the young son who was so threatening. Scary! yet I see this in my work too.

Carol said...

Jan, I saw that when I worked in the ER. I felt so sorry for those moms. I felt totally helpless.
We could admit the child for a while but I'm sure they didn't get to stay for long because I'm sure they were very disruptive, even in the hospital.

It was at those times I thought, thank God I don't have any kids. Kids are like a box of chocolates, you don't know what you'll get until THEY bite into you.

I'm sorry to have to say that mental health treatment in the hospital depends on how good a patient's insurance is and how much trouble the patient is. We had hospitals call us at the jail to arrest some of their mental health patients when they got to be too much trouble. So, if they look at mental health services as a fix....

Carol said...

I really don't think the shooter's mom thought that her kid was the least bit dangerous. No evidence of that. No one noted anything violent about him, neighbors nor the kids who knew him. Actually most saw him as being totally impotent. Neighbors said that she kept her guns locked up. His being a vegan may have also thrown her off.

They reported that his mom would occasionally go off to stay in a hotel just to get away for fun. She wasn't concerned about leaving him home alone. She was doing that the two days before he killed her. She had just returned the night before.

Carol said...

It doesn't take long, listening to some of these people, politicians and regular citizens, to see what kind of people they are. One pawn shop owner in Florida, removed all the guns from his pawn shop because he didn't want for any of his guns to be responsible for this kind of violence. He said that half his business was selling guns. He's got a good soul. In contrast, there are people who ran out to buy up more assault rifles for their collections, because they were afraid they would soon not be available. Scary.

Oh, Cassedee Pope won the Voice last night. I was pulling for her but they were all good so I wouldn't have been disappointed if any of them would have won. They had many of the previous talents from the season on last night. They were good also. Good show last night.

When it was over, I kinda felt like a kid at the end of Camp Fire camp. Sad. I'll miss seeing them every week.

Carly Rose Sonenclare just sang Hallelujah. It was amazing. If you want to hear it I think you can find it on utube later. I sure hope she wins the Xfactor tomorrow night.

Carol said...

Jan, I just love that song. Monday, at the beginning of the Voice, the judges, current and previous contestants, all sang that song and were each holding a card with the name of one of the victims. It was a real tear jerker. I've done about a lifetime of crying this week.

Hallelujah - The Voice Sings Tribute To 26 Killed In Elementary School

They couldn't have selected a better song.

Carol said...

Anyone who can watch that video and then run out to buy a gun, has no soul.

Carol said...

I don't care much for Piers Morgan but this week I was a fan. He interviewed this idiot gun advocate guy, Larry Pratt. He told him that he was an unbelievably stupid man. That man had no soul.

Carol said...

And I do not oppose people having a gun in their home, kept in a safe place, for their protection. I have a little gun and it does make me feel a little safer.

In order for law enforcement to carry a gun they go through extensive psychological tests, lie detectors tests and if they fail, they aren't hired. Then they have all the training after that.

And I heard tonight that the NRA has been misrepresenting the 2nd amendment. And back in those days, you probably had to stuff the gun with powder and pack it before it could be fired. They never envisioned assault rifles.

I still say, that all owners of those weapons should be registered and documented online so we all know who has them and where they are located. You can look on the Internet and Google their location. Then we can then all watch those people.

I saw that video. Someone posted it on fb and I shared it. It brought tears to my eyes.

We are in AR visiting Steve and his family until sat morning. We visited John' family Sun afternoon through this morning. It has been a good trip. Ryley has been amazing. She is the sweetest little girl.

Carol said...

After watching Piers Morgan tonight, where he had a room full of people debating this gun control issue, I realized that the only way we might get these dangerous weapons of mass destruction off the streets is if we put it to a vote. Every citizen gets to decide. It would be best if it could be done soon after a tragedy like the one we just experienced when the consequences are fresh in everyone's mind. If the majority want these weapons, we'll just have to live with them. I do still have faith that a majority of the population are still sane about this issue. I know that will never happen.

It's clear to me now that it doesn't matter if you talk with people who you would assume are emotionally mature, doctors, lawyers, CEOs, psychologists etc, too many have the emotional maturity of young children. They want to have the right to own their dangerous violent toys and don't want anyone to say they can't. It does seem that most of them are men. Well, physically they qualify as men but emotionally they don't.

Having politicians decide this issue is definitely not a good idea since most of them only make decisions based on who they believe can financially support or destroy them, not based on what the majority of those who they represent want.

Carol said...

And after listening for a week to the arguments, no one has come up with any sane reason why assault weapons should be legal. Not a single soul.

Jan,
I'm so glad to hear that you are having a nice visit with your family, and will still be home in time for Christmas to enjoy the comfort of your home.

My heart melted when you mentioned what a sweet little girl Ryley has been (and as I already mentioned, I was also glad to hear you took her with you).

You and John (and your baby girl) have a safe trip home. Love you (and happy holidays!).

Carol said...

So glad that little Ryley is doing good on the trip. Sounds like she's a good travel companion.

We had some storms and tornado watches throughout Ark last night. Had some really bad wind through here about 1 am this morning. It is windy out now and cold but otherwise I think the bad weather has passed through.

Thanks Chloe and Carol for the good wishes for the trip. I am a little weary this morning. It is good to see my granddaughters here - they are 20 and 15. They are both sweet girls. Good to see my son and DIL too.

Maggie used to often hide. She had quit sleeping in the bed, more often sleeping under it. Since I retired, she has spent more time with me and sleeps in the bed again, under the covers.

Recently, I've had to sleep in my recliner on the couch because of my back pain. I tried to sleep in bed night before last and that didn't work out.

Maggies favorite time of the day is bedtime. She likes her routine. When the time approaches, she starts getting up and trying to get my attention.

Last night I decided to stay on the couch again. She started doing her, it's time to go to bed routine. I told her to go get in the bed but she wouldn't unless I was also going. I even walked in the bedroom, told her to get in bed, and covered her up. I came back to the recliner. She didn't stay in the bed for any time, she opted to sleep on the other side of the couch even though she wasn't happy about it.

There are some really good things that can come from drinking beer.

There are other songs they also do. I'm impressed.

Finally got to see Lincoln today. Very good movie. Went with son, John, and 2 granddaughters. The 15 y/o was not as excited about it but said it was interesting. I plan to take the girls shopping in Hot Springs (25 miles away) tomorrow for clothes.

Carol said...

Let's not get rid of these boy toys that are WMD concealed throughout our neighborhoods, instead, let's create a gun state where armed guards are everywhere.

Let's collect and document all people who could be considered mentally ill. That ought to help people seek treatment.

Yes, society provides the concept and the training for violence but the NRA provides the means to carry it out on a large scale.

Some may have felt like we missed the bullet of 12-21-12 when we woke up this morning. We didn't. We are all just a heartbeat away.

Unknown said...

Jan,
Hope your day of shopping went well.

I still haven't seen Lincoln... I may wait 'til it comes out on Netflix or DirecTv.

Does it give any new perspectives on his life or on the thing that were happening at the time? How was Sally Field? If you recommend it, I'll probably go see it.

Like I said before, have a safe trip home (I think you said Sunday?). I bet you'll be happy to be back in Albuquerque.

jan said...

Carol, I liked the Lincoln movie. I think I have a greater understanding of Lincoln himself now. I am reading the book too so that helps. Sally Field was amazing. She does look old in the movie. Some scenes of the battles (not many) are pretty gruesome. I definitely recommend the DVD. I will let you decide for yourself. It is 2 1/2 hrs long so the DVD may be the best way to go. I think there are definitely some Oscars there.

Unknown said...

Hi Jan,
That was me who asked you about the movie. Thanks -- I'm going to try to see it next week.

Carol said...

Jan, I do want to see the movie but I have trouble sitting for that long. It will be on my list to rent.

jan said...

Chloe, sorry - I guess when I have to travel such a long way between the comments others have written to post something, I forget who I am responding to. LOL.

Jan,

Are you home?

If so, once you're rested, I hope to hear about your trip (and maybe see some pictures?).

This is such a hectic time of the year, but in spite of that I'm trying to enjoy it. It' the first year Emma year she'll more or less understand the whole thing.

Her teacher at school, that I talk with often, said none of them really understand in that age group. They just know there's lots of parties and food (mostly junk food) and lot of gifts.

Christmas morning will be lots of fun though. Emma is so easily stimulated, that she'll probably hit overload not too far into the day. (... of course, by then, I'll probably hit overload too).

Unknown said...

Coreen,

I so much hope you plan on putting up your Christmas picture post.

I think we all count on you here, because you always do such a good job with holidays and seem to enjoy them so much.

After all the sadness that has been going on, it would be nice to view some of the beauty from your great state too.
