Who's your daddy?

It’s a good time to ponder if you think that the federal government should be available to help out in these kinds of disasters.  Depending on the outcome of this election, it may not be next time.

People are screaming…where’s the help?  Some didn't learn from what they saw in Katrina.  Maybe they didn't want to pay attention to something horrible that was happening to someone else.  Some probably even thought that those southerner’s were sooo dumb not to leave New Orleans when they were warned to leave.  It’s just human nature to want to protect all that you have.  It’s human nature to think…it probably won’t be as bad as they are trying to make it out.  Nothing wrong or abnormal about that.

Things are unfolding exactly as they usual do after this kind of disaster.  It takes a good week for the federal government and other resources to get in to start to help.  Even though I bitched about being stuck at the jail for 8 days, I was effing lucky that I had that option because it would have been impossible to have what I needed before that time.  Of course I would have been a good distance out of town if I wasn't required to stay behind for my job.  Most everyone did leave when they called for the evacuation for Rita but that was because we had the advantage of just having watched what happened in Katrina.

I'll just bet that there will be some who think they did it all alone and never got any help from the government who will be happy to get some help from "big daddy".

It doesn't surprise me that people are out there screaming for help. What did surprise me is that community leader who got on TV and told people that they shouldn't give to the Red Cross because their help wasn't there fast enough. Totally irresponsible! It should have been his job to let his people know that help usually takes at least a week to get there.

And this marathon controversy, it's a no brainer. There's no comparing running a marathon over a month after a terrorist attack to running one less than a week after a natural disaster where people are cold, homeless, and hungry. Anyone trying is idiot IMO. Each sends a very different message to the world.

Marathon has now been cancelled. Hmmm, like I said,... no brainer! Now get those generators to some of the gas stations so they can open.

One thing to agree on...the decision to allow the ny marathon a disgrace...however after the loud
drumbeat from many, it is now cancelled...

I meet a milestone today. Well, actually not a mile yet but a good start. I walked a ways down camp road with the Magster. First time since I broke that ankle/foot that I've been able to do that. A couple of times I was having to drag Maggie. She's gotten lazy. I had on my magic shoes.

Congrats Carol on walking a mile. I apologize for complaining about my my knee sprain. Your broken ankle/foot much more serious.

I hate all the things that go along with growing old. But the alternative is worse.

Jan, it's how long things take to heal. But then, I never gave that leg any time off. How could I have?

It's raining acorns on the roof. Bang, bang, roll, roll all night long. Every morning I get up and the yard if full of the ends of the branches of my huge Live Oak tree. Some squirrel or squirrels must have the night shift for harvesting acorns. The yard is also covered with acorns. Haven't lived here at this time of the year for three years but I just don't remember having heard that before. Of course the old memory ain't what it used to be. Thank God for Google. If I can remember a piece of something I've forgotten, I stick that in the search box and up pops the rest of it. Google is great for dementia..until I forget how to do that too.

Were any of you surprised that Sabrina got the boot on DWTS? I didn't watch or even record it to ff thru it this week. I did check that PurDWTS website to see who got kicked off. I thought that Sabrina was one of the better dancers but what do I know.

I'm still watching the Voice. I think it is the best of those singing or dancing shows...so far. I'm not sure if the viewing audience gets involved in voting for their favs since this is the first season that I've watched it and so far it's only the coaches making the decisions.

It was a surprise that Sabrina got kicked off. She was the highest scorer for this week too. As you have said many times Carol. It is a popularity contest. However, they are all good now, even Kirstie.

Derek will not be dancing this coming week. He had an injury that he is going to rest.
