My Thanksgiving

The highlight of my Thanksgiving was seeing all 4 of my great grandkids.  The 2 from Colo were here with the 2 that live here.  There are 3 boys and 1 girl.  Both sets of parents tell me they don't plan any more children.  It was fun seeing all of them.  The oldest 2 will be 3 years old this Dec. and Jan. The 3rd will be 1 year old in Jan. and the youngest is 3 months old.

I hope you will indulge me showing off pictures of my greats. The men in the pics are my son and grandson (father and son). The little girl and the youngest baby belong to my granddaughter (daughter and sister of the 2 men).

I think Carol may put up some pics of "The Cake"..... It was out of this world.....If anyone is looking for a movie to check out, Skyfall is "ok" and I mean "ok" just to be nice......But, Lincoln is fantastic..!! Life of Pi is next for me.

Would love a piece of that Tuxedo Cake. But not enough to spend 4 hours making it. Carol, you do love to cook and everything I ate that you made years ago was delicious.

I downloaded the book on my ereader. I want to see the movie Lincoln. Thanks Georgia for your opinion of the movie.

Precious babies Jan, even the big ones. The little girl looks like you Jan.

Thanks Carol. All 4 are Terry's grandchildren. Bill's 2 boys are 27 and 23 and neither in serious relationships. Steve's girls are 19 & 15 so none in sight - I hope.

The little girl and baby live here so I get to see them often.

You should see Terry with the kids. He is nuts about them.

Jan, You have such a beautiful family. And the babies - gorgeous!

No wonder you had such a great day.

Carol and Jan,
Glad you liked the water song as much as I did. I rarely watch end credits, but that song played throughout them, and I waited to see the name of it and who sang it. It credited the guys name (I think he wrote it).

I'd forgotten what an avid swimmer you are, Jan. That would have tipped me off to your love of water.

I LOVE rain -- always happiest when it's raining). I'm the only person I know that can't get enough rain (it can last for days on end, and I never tire of it). Weird too though, because I love sunshine.... once in a while we get a combination of it.

Normally rains a lot here in Houston, but not enough anymore. Especially in the last three years.

Georgia, I've never been here since you have... I think you must be TW.

Anyway, just want to say hi (and hope Carol does post a picture of that cake).

Sure signs of the rush to Christmas around here...the Christmas trees were set up down at Silverman's the Sunday before
Thanksgiving & as is the custom, yesterday the parade of cars with
trees tied to their roofs started down the hill...

And the GE Christmas tree has been
getting its holdiay gown for a couple of weeks, the cranes & trucks were putting up this year's
ornaments this weekend too...tree lighting about a week away...

"...250 members of Congress — or 47 percent — have a net worth of more than $1 million, according to a new study by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics."

"...the average senator had a net worth of about $2.63 million last year. That’s up 11 percent from $2.38 million in 2009 and 16 percent from $2.27 million in 2008.”

"About 67 percent of Senators are millionaires. There is nothing wrong with success or being a millionaire but keep in mind these are the folks rubbing shoulders with banking lobbyists that will likely bankroll their campaign. In essence, they are working for big money and not the public."

Smoke and mirrors economy

Well Coreen, we will expect some pics in a week.

I heard about the story I linked on C2C this morning. It was in the pre-program news.

Carol said...

I still have a subscription to C2C but don't often listen to it. I checked this morning to see what some of the recent programs were and saw that last night or actually very early this morning, the program was on the Incarceration Industry. It sounds like something I might be interested in.

Thank you all for your kind comments about my greats. Please put up a new post when you get some pics.

Coreen, I look forward to your pics of Christmas in your area.

Chloe, yes I love to swim. I have not been swimming much lately and have experienced sprains in knees and shoulders. I think it is because of not swimming. The water provides great physical therapy and prevention of these kinds of injuries - so I am back to swimming at least 3 times a week. I also sleep much better when swimming regularly.

We rented a movie at Redbox last night. Not one I recommend. It was Sat night and not anything that stood out when I rented it. The name of the movie was "Carnage" and I rented it based upon the cast - Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet- directed by Roman Polanski. The acting was great but the story was strange. I do not recommend. An old movie on TCM would have been more entertaining.

In case you didn't remember, Liz and
Dick with Lindsay Lohan is on tonight. It's on Lifetime at 8C.

Carol said...

Don't get your hopes up though. I read:

"Lindsay Lohan’s depiction of Liz Taylor has many critics claiming it was so terrible that it might be worth tuning in to see just how bad she really was tonight."

No wonder she cancelled her interview with Barbara Wa Wa. I'll watch it.

Watched Cat on a hot tin roof this afternoon on TV. It was worth the watch. Liz was a true beauty. Great acting. Paul Newman was hot.

jan said...

At the end of the movie - Cat..... the narrator said that during the making of the movie, Liz's husb of 1 year, Mike Todd was killed in a plane crash in the mountains of NM. She left the set for a week or so and returned to complete the movie.

Jan, sorry to hear about your sprains. I agree it may be because of the lapse in your swimming exercise (which I've heard is the best and most safe exercise there is. Hope it won't take long to heal well enough to start again. It's good for both body and soul.

Wish I had been a swimmer. I used to 'love' running (about 4 miles every morning), but stopped when we move here, probably mostly because of the weather and the fact their were so many loose out here where we live. (Not lots of rules -- which of course is what I like about it).

I never felt better than when I used to run. Used to get up about 4:30 so I had time to run before day light, and then do everything I had to do to get to my job on time. What I'd give to have all that energy back again. It amazes to me to see the young people now with kids, accomplish so much and never seem to run out of the energy to do it.

Remember what they used to say: 'Youth is wasted on the young'?

I was so young when I first saw 'Cat on a hot tin roof'. I believe I read the book first.

Calling Paul Newman 'hot' is too mild a world. What a gorgeous man, and he had that attitude that came across so well on the screen. I'd melt when I saw him.

Steve McQueen too. The movies were different back then, and made us such a different generation the the new ones now.

I'm glad that it was such a naive time in so many ways.

I'm appalled at all the grammatical errors I make... leaving out words, not completing words, misspelling word, etc.

I get in such a hurry and should take the time to proof read. I'd surprised if you all can even decipher what I'm saying half the time.

When I said ]I stopped running partly because there were so many loose'.... I meant large dogs. I've heard of so many people being attacked by dogs (especially when there's a small pack).

Unknown said...

... I need rest. It's been an EXHAUSTING weekend.

I even made multiple errors in my apology for previous multiple errors.

Unbelievable.

See you all tomorrow.

Chloe, you are so hard on yourself. You are among good friends. We do not judge - as I am sure you do not judge me and my human frailties.

Thank you for talking about how you took care of yourself by running. I am so much less disciplined about exercise than I used to be. Sometimes I think "what is the use...this body is just not doing what it used to do."

jan said...

Dogs in packs scare me also. I love dogs but I like them best on leashes.

jan said...

I have been watching "Downton Abby Revisitied" I can hardly wait for the 3rd season. I missed parts of the 1st season and they have rerun those on PBS.

jan said...

Yes, Paul Newman was gorgeous. What a lovely man who was true to his wife.

New Post. Anyone wanting to put up another one is welcome to also. No time limit.
