Hummingbirds from the front porch

We are enjoying all the birds in our front yard each morning.  We have robins, woodpeckers, sparrows, roadrunners, and of course hummingbirds. We have a couple of yucca plants that are blooming with pinkish coral blooms.  The hummers love these plants. I believe these are the plants they make tequila from in Mexico.  No wonder the hummers love them. I took a bunch of pics the last few mornings. With a little editing on my computer, I came up with some pretty good pics of the hummers to share.

Those are super cool pics Jan. Kinda looks like an oriental silk screen. Even looks like a painting.

Don't know what to think about that computer threat??? Sounds fishy. And they want us to go to some FBI site to check out our computers?? That gives me a warm feeling inside...like the feeling you get before you come down with the flu. Not that I worry about anything on my computer. I wouldn't have anything on my computer that I wouldn't want on the front page of the paper.

Yes TW..that dog story was horrible. I never mentioned it because it was so horrible. And then the chief comes out and complains because the public is outraged?? That makes it worse.

The peeps around these parts are very partial to their fur babies. We had that guy who killed that dog and he got 7 years in prison. But if you're on the other side of the badge??? Maggie signed that petition.

And both the BB teams won last night. Weren't the Yanks behind a game with the Red Socks Coreen? Have they made it up yet?

Had the last post up to respond to some of the comments and wrote this on that post by accident.

I've been following that trial in Florida where the husband blew away his wife and the young guy he thought she was shacked up with. I kinda think that the young guy was just part of a plan she had to punish her husband for much of his abuse she endured over the years and it backfired. They had offered him a pretty good deal but he turned it down. He thought that he could convince a jury he killed them in the "heat of passion". The jury didn't buy it. It didn't help that he planned it for months..involved his kids and ended up shooting one in the process.

Anyone hear about that case? Anyone see the pic of his face during that trial? That's a pic of someone on high doses of antidepressants...a distant vacant look.

CA is back in the legal news. I only watch what I have pre-recorded so I can fast forward thru anything about her. Unfortunately..I still catch too much of it.

Did hear that Jose Bias wrote in his book that CA claimed that her daddy killed her baby. And used the duct tape on her. Yeah..an x police officer would use very identifiable duct tape that he keeps in his garage and uses on posters to help find the child. Makes perfect sense. Good thing Jose didn't try to present that in court. Even he wasn't that stupid.

I didn't watch the Barbara Wawa program on heaven yet. Gonna do that today. Wanted to be more alert when I watch it.

Interesting that Tiger won that last PGA tournament and couldn't even make the cut for the current one.

Nice work Jan...actually get to see the hummingbird & the yucca in bloom...almost looks like stop action pics of him flying....

Coreen said...

Yankees/Red Sox, a typical 4 hour extravaganza...& the outcome when at fenway is never secure until as yogi says...it's not over til it's over...

3 more to go before the all star break...half the season is gone already...how fast time is flying...& yes today the Yankees are looking good...even with the loss of our big guys...cc & andy & of course mariano...but they are hanging tough & for the moment the best team in baseball...and all is well with the world...at least until another game goes by, since things can change in a flash...

Coreen said...

Both Tiger and Phil Mickelson failed to make the cut in the same tournament...unusual...

I took a bunch of pics of the hummingbird(s) over several days. They love that Yucca. I did a lot of editing on the pictures with my i-photo app on my laptop. I had fun playing with the app and the pictures.

jan said...

We are going to a movie this afternoon. Plan to see Abraham Lincoln -Vampire Hunter. Hope its good.

We saw Moonrise Kingdom last weekend. It was a really good movie. We heartily recommend it.

jan said...

Thanks for kind words about pictures Coreen. My little inexpensive digital camera takes fairly decent pics. What really made the difference was the ability to do some work on the pictures with the i-photo app on my MacBook Pro.

jan said...

I have not been following the case in Florida Carol. I have not been watching as much TV news.

Carol said...

Jan..I don't do so well with my digital camera. I could make those old SLRs purr like a kitten but with the digital I'm just lucky when it comes out OK.

With the SLRs, I could adjust all the settings to accommodate for all the environmental situations. With the digital cameras a problem is that it has that momentary pause when I snap the pic so I often miss what I'm shooting if the object is in motion or the shutter speed is usually not fast enough to stop the action so fast moving objects are blurry. I realize I can go into the menu to speed up the shutter speed but that's a lot of trouble. I'm not sure if I can make my digital snap faster.

Now..I mostly use my iPhone for convenience and I don't think there is any way to change the settings on it except to add flash.

Carol said...

Coreen..I had to do some research to find out why Petit and CC were out. It wasn't easy to find. You can't assume I know what you're talking about and TW didn't know either.

Carol said...

For the last few days and for the next several days we have a great chance of rain. TW had over 2 inches yesterday and 2 1/2 today. I only got about 8 tenths over the last two days. I'm glad I didn't get more.

I was able to mow this morning. Some of the grass is tall and some I can't even tell where I've mowed when I cut it. I was even able to skip mowing in some places which made my mowing go faster.

This morning I went to turn my pool pump on and it just made this loud humming noise. It's on a timer but I went to turn it on before the timer kicked it on. When I heard the noise.. I turned it off quick. I called my pool guy who I haven't used lately since I'm doing my own pool cleaning. We both figured that the bearing in the motor had froze up. That's how it sounded. He said he was out of town but would be in tomorrow afternoon. I don't want my pool pump to be off for very long in this heat.

I went outside a little later and saw the pool water moving. I didn't realize that when I turned it off that the timer was still due to turn it back on. It was on and running just fine. No noise. Not sure what happened but I'll have to make sure it's on and running OK before I leave for work or just run it for a while only when I'm home.

Carol said...

I just took delivery of my second NuWave cooktop. Finally! They tried to deliver it yesterday but I wasn't home. They usually just leave it but didn't this time. I saw online that it was due to be delivered today so I stayed home all day. It got here at 8p so I wasted the day.

They sent me the first one over a month ago and said the second one was on back order. That's BS since they continued to market them aggressively. I think they were hoping I'd forget. I set my iPhone to remind me every week so that wouldn't happen. Don't think it would have happened anyway.

I wrote them 4 nasty emails and finally I got an email saying that they were sending the second one. I just wonder if they look at the age of their customer and figure that some of us older folks might just forget.

I really do like the product but wouldn't have paid the price they charged for only one. I wanted at least one for the camp or maybe even two if I ever have much stovetop cooking to do out there. There are frequently times when you need to have two burners. I have one single and one double burner thingy at the camp but both were in bad shape. They were getting kinda scary.

This induction cooktop is really cool. You can't use just any pots or pans on it. They have to be cast iron or stainless steel to conduct the heat because the cook top does not get hot..the pot does. You get a large pot/lid and two nice non-stick frying pans with the first cooktop. I've checked and most of my nice pots and pan will work with the cooktop. You can test the bottom with a magnet to see if it will work.

I have used the cooktop here quite a few times even though I have a big stove. I think it's cheaper to run than a regular burner on the stove and does not heat up the room. I really like it.

I don't use my regular oven here either. It's really big. I have a larger toaster type oven that I always use. I know that's cheaper to operate.

jan said...

Carol, Your new cooktop sounds fascinating. post a pic of it sometime.

Hope your pool pump is working ok. Are you using your pool?

jan said...

We went to see the movie, ...Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. It was pretty interesting. There was really nothing else showing that seemed interesting. There was a scene with running horses that seemed impossible to shoot. But I know they can do so much digitally now. This one was made by Tim Burton too. He really likes vampire movies.

jan said...

It was more John's kind of movie but it was fun to get out.

A neighbor and I are taking turns walking the elderly couple's dog across the street in the mornings. The neighbor really kind of roped me into it. It is not that I don't want to walk the dog, but it poops as soon as you get it started and then have to pick up the poop. I walked the dog this morning. I went prepared and took several disposable gloves and several plastic bags. Sure enough, about 4 houses after we got started he pooped about 3-4 days worth. It was stinky too. I am sorry but I hate dog poop. When I walked Lobie, I would not let her poop on the walk. I made her wait till we got home. I had to clean up poop in the yard, but I wait until it dried and then do a weeks worth at a time. This was so bad this morning that I could not eat breakfast for about 3-4 hours.

jan said...

I would like a cooktop that does not heat up the room.

Carol said...

Jan..can't say I'd recommend this cooktop if you have a nice stove. It ended up costing over 200 bucks after the shipping and handling and then all the trouble I had getting the second one. You would still pay the same if you asked for only one.

I only ordered it because I don't have a stove at the camp. I thought about getting a smaller oven/stove at the camp but I'd have to run another 210 wire. I did kinda enjoy all the cooking appliances I used at the camp. Of course I almost need another room to store all the cooking things I have out there.

Carol said...

Jan..I was pondering this morning about why this induction technology isn't used in stoves since it seems so much safer. You can actually put a paper towel under your pot while cooking. I read that in an article but certainly wouldn't try it. It also heats much faster than a regular electric burner...closer to what gas cooking does and cools off fast.

I Googled my ponder and found out that this technology is available for stoves and used more in Europe and Canada. And I also found that you can get a Aroma induction single burner cook top at Costco or Walmart for around 50+ bucks. I saw where a cook top like our regular stoves runs around 1500 bucks. That's why they're not so popular.

There are other drawbacks..ie you are limited in the kind of pots and pans you use. You also can't use round bottom pans..ie a wok. You can't use glass..ceramic or aluminum.

I also found out that I wasn't the only person experiencing the trouble getting the second cook top. NuWave did not know how popular their marketing would be and they just didn't make enough. But when people find out that they can get them elsewhere, for cheaper..they will lose business.

Now the NuWave is a little fancier than the other ones I found. Has more digital options.

Carol said...

Just to be fair to NuWave..with the two cook tops..that take some time to both arrive..you get a neat cookbook and a DVD. Also the 3 pots/fry pans.

Carol said...

Well..I just finished a pile of chores. I'm 95% spent but only about 60% done. Did my feeding and watering here and at the camp.
Ran my boat motor to keep it charged. Vacuumed the pool and my least favorite..showering, putting on makeup and blow drying my hair.
The shower is nice but the other two I would like to do without.

I getting ready to head out for grocery shopping. I usually like that chore except I'm pooped.

Oh..I cooked up breakfast also..my country fried potatoes with onions, bell peppers, and parsley. Parsley has a lot of good stuff in it and I have a good bit of it in my herb garden that needs using. I used my PIC cook top and one of the green fry pans that came with it.

OK..one foot in front of the other....Move..

jan said...

Carol, I quit using make up about a year ago. I use a face moisturizer (Clinique) 2-3 times a day even when we travel to humid climates. I think it has a little spf in it too. I decided that make up does not help much any more anyway. On special occasions I use some eyeliner and mascara. I do put on a lipstick mornings but I lick it off in an hour or so. Sometimes I blow dry my hair and sometimes I don't. It is surprising how much time I save by eliminating some of these things. Will not eliminate shower.

jan said...

It has been a nice morning. Did my 45 minute walk. Had my 2 cups of tea and then my oatmeal breakfast. John was needing his once a month haircut and beard/eyebrow trim. I am his barber. He likes to tell people he has a "PhD barber." It is not a freebie however. I give him my wish list. LOL.

Carol said...

Morning.. Didn't catch any more rain yesterday but the threat of it kept my temp down. It was slightly cooler here than it was at both of your places but I'm pretty sure the heat index was higher...with the humidity.

I gave my PIC cooktop a workout yesterday.

jan said...

Oh happy day! I can get on internet this morning. virus did not affect me.

jan said...

oops. the deadline for the fix has passed. I guess the virus is still out there.

jan said...

...and the news just keeps getting worse about Paterno's role in handling football players and coaches problems internally. Emails indicate that it was Paterno himself who probably stifled any outside investigation into anything happening in football at Penn State. This info is on CNN. There is a saying that "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" This certainly applies to Paterno and the football culture at Penn State.

jan said...

I think we all felt sorry for Paterno. That feeling has changed for me. If he were alive, he should be going to jail.

jan said...

Instead of being remembered as "the greatest football coach in history, he will be remembered as the man who was responsible for a pedophile being able to continue his raping and molesting of vulnerable young boys.

Georgia said...

Great pics Jan of the hummers..I just love watching them. In September I get LOTS of them . I'm pinned inside today, this is the third day in a row I've had rain. It's been a steady good rain since 8am and the map shows more to come...This puts me near 7 inches or better for the 3 day total.

Georgia said...

I actually got to watch my Braves yesterday. Yea...we swept the Phillies..!! The Brian McCann home runs..!!! Finally out of his slump , 4 homers in 4 games in a row....Coreen, I see 3 Yankees starting tomorrow night....that's impressive. I do think Cano is something special....Gonna watch the HR Derby tonight to see him maybe win it again.

Georgia said...

Prince Fielder may give him some competition though.

Coreen said...

Looks like the story about the cops
killing the family dog in your town has made it to the New York
news...sad situation...
Louisiana police investigate fatal
shooting of family dog

Coreen said...

And it looks like the Tom Cruise/Katy Holmes divorce saga may have come to a quick end...not sure when the NY media will end its pics of her & the daughter, who apparently will live in NYC...

Guess the speculation is that prolonged focus on the scient cult would not serve their purposes...so
quick agreement to end the soap opera aspects directed by the scient powers that be...does make you wonder more about Tom Cruise & the other celebrity scientologists & the whole cult itself...all that I have read does seem very creepy
stuff...

Did you know that Greta van sustern from Fox is a scient...I can hear you now Carol...it figures!!!...

Coreen said...

TW looks like you called it about the HR derby...

The overnight sports talk & the morning news...all made mention of the KC fans booing Robby...

Now if I was a hateful person I would remind those moronic losers that are a poor excue for fans in KC, that oh their team is what in 2nd to last place, can't break 500....

& oh gee the guy they booed is only part of the reason that THE team has the best record in baseball(& yes I am always aware that that can change in a heartbeat, but my guys just keep on trying to be the best)...& regardless of the tackiness exhibited by the KC fans, what I saw looked like the players were enjoying themselves...but then again I am not a hateful person...

Georgia said...

Yeah Coreen, the fans were tacky I thought as well. I don't understand the whole concept as to why or how Cano picks the team, and I think he only could pick 3 guys.....What I'm trying to saying is that I don't know how the players get chosen to be in the HR derby. I was surprised to see Cano not get a one...YOU?

Georgia said...

I'll watch the game tonight but have never really "enjoyed" an All-Star game.....like all the pre game stuff better, i.e. the "nostalgia"......

Georgia said...

I do have a Brave on 2nd base..Dan Uggla is a starter.

Georgia said...

He's quite "the hunk" if I say so myself.

Georgia said...

I am sick of TomKat saga....really who gives a damn? I'm glad she got away from that man....I NEVER cared for him or his movies. That Scientology stuff seems like a cult.

Georgia said...

More rain today, off and on downpours..... I think I'm starting to mildew.....This is 4 days in a row. Coreen, Carol said the dog story had gone viral...I saw some more of it last night, the victim who was car-jacked had gotten out of the hospital. And this all happened right where Carol and I got our tickets when we went to see "Marigold Hotel"..

Georgia said...

In broad daylight.....they pulled this guy out of his car and beat him then took off, when the cops closed in they abandoned the car and the foot chase was on through back yards, hence the gate being left open and the family dog got out....you know the rest. Our area made Nancy Grace broadcast last night as well...missing college student in Lafayette.

Georgia said...

Mickey Shunick....although it's spelled with an "e", it's a female student.

Georgia said...

What's wrong with people?

Georgia said...

I watch the news every day, don't miss a day, but everything is really getting too much to even hear about, I spent the day Sat. watching old Andy Griffith shows on TV Land and chuckled all day long. I remember those days when life was simple and the media didn't show what they show now. I'm sure the crimes were still there, it just wasn't exploited as much.

Georgia said...

Carol said I was "dumbing down" for the day but I still watch all the old "I Love Lucy's", "Mash" and even watched a ton of "Frasier" reruns on Sun..... Doesn't take much to pass time for me I guess.

Georgia said...

I hope the fall has some better shows on than this summer....Has anyone ever tried to watch ABC's "Wipe-Out"? This is entertainment???????

Carol said...

Almost didn't get up this morning. For once it was good I got a call from work. I forgot to set iPhoney.

Another morning waking up to the sound of a waterfall coming off the roof. Yesterday I was up to 5 inches and I think TW was up to 8. From the sounds outside..that's going up.

One plus is that it barely cracked 80 degrees yesterday.

Carol said...

TW..that dumbed down comment went with your all day marathon of Andy Griffin shows.

Carol said...

That All Star game was a snoozer. I tried to watch it and fell asleep.

Carol said...

Yes Jan..I think Joe P got his karma before he died. I do hope that what happened at Penn State did teach us all a lesson..that nothing stays hidden forever. You may be able to fool people but you can't fool the Universe.

Carol said...

Unfortunately Jan I find that too often people don't learn from experience even when the same bad outcome is repeated over and over.
It's not just dumb people either..look at our politicians who press their luck.

jan said...

I too am glad the TomKat thing is over. As with all things, it ran its course.

jan said...

I have been fighting a headache for 3 days now. It was worse yesterday - getting better today. Noise and extreme light make it worse.

jan said...

Georgia, I liked Andy Griffith too. He was a good one. One of John's favorite movies was "No Time for Sargeants" It was fun just to watch that movie with John since he gets such a kick out of it.

jan said...

Boy, you are getting a bunch of rain in LC. We are having our monsoon weather now. Our temps have been in 80s for past 8-9 days and showers in afternoon or night. It is great.

Carol said...

I don't know about that TomKat thing being over..they still talk about it every day on the ET shows. He does look good for 50 but 50 isn't old anymore, is it?

Carol said...

I'm up to 7 inches of rain since the rainy season started. Not sure why we are having this but I'm not really complaining even though my yard looks like a swamp. I saw that our high was the same as the high in both your town Coreen and in Seattle.

Not raining here yet but that yellow, green and red stuff is all around us.

Carol said...

My pool pump did finally bite the dust. I tried to call my back up pool guy but only got a little text msg response. Not sure what's going on with him. My main pool man is still in the joint and will probably be there for a good while. His back up, who #1 thinks stole his business, is only iffy reliable.

I can't go for long without that water going thru the filter this time of year. If I don't hear from him I'll have to call a real pool place. He's cheaper and needs the money.

Carol said...

Today is the day that the investigation into Penn State's involvement in the Sandusky affair will be released. I think it is suppose to be online at 9 A.

I still think there has to be much more to that story. I can't believe that one single perv could be allowed to wreck that much havoc and get by with it for as long as he did. And I still think that the disappearance of that DA had something to do with this mess.

Carol said...

By now I assume you have all heard that news conference yesterday so what is the moral of the story? Be careful who you worship? Denial is a hard habit to break?

It's hard to wrap my head around it. How could those men just ignore all those children for just one ugly perv? I still think there had to be more pervs involved or the perv had lots of dirt on some of the others involved.

It seems Joe Pa got off easy by checking out. He had years of hero worship and then exited shortly after the poop hit the fan.

Carol said...

And there is controversy on whether all the symbols of hero worship of Joe Paterno should be removed from the Penn State campus. I think they definitely should be. People need to learn the ultimate lesson here..that is..that you can be great for 60+ years but if you hide horror for 14+ you are no hero.

Carol said...

Caught a little over an inch of rain yesterday. I think that's over 8 inches for me since last Friday. I just looked and the rain chance for the next 5 days is 80..60..50..60..70. At least, so far, the rain only lasts about half the day and then it stops and stays overcast. Our temps stay in the low 80s...that "cold day in July" we are always waiting for to do something.. is here.

So far..the river is still OK. Don't know how long that can hold out.

Carol said...

What's interesting is that Twin..TW and I..spread across the area.. are getting significantly more rain totals than what they are reporting on the weather.

Coreen said...

Penn State will wind up paying for its failures, then the story goes away...like it or not...& by the way, we (well most of us cynics) already knew that there was lots of coverup going on for a very long time, 400 page report or not...

Short term there will be much hand wringing, but in the end, life will continue in happy valley, it will be business as usual...which as I keep reminding you is what it is always about, in this instance, big $$$ to run the big time college....everything else takes
last place...

Coreen said...

Ponder this...

why are certain politicians yelling about the Ralph Lauren olympic outfits being made in China...I find them to be the ultimate hypocrites...what a crock...

Now if they were screaming about those French berets, maybe I'd have some sympathy...& I never liked double breasted jackets!!!...

And FYI, I buy many Lauren products regularly....

check the very same pols closer & pretty sure you will find they do
their share of not backing /buying american made products...

You know I do have a pet peeve about buying american especially
cars...which again I will remind you was as far as I am concerned...the death of manufacturing when the American public bought into the idea that foreign cars...like japanese/german were better then american made...I find Consumer Reports to have been one of the prime pushers of that BS....that entity wallowed in slamming american made cars for years & gushed about all the japanese autos in particular...

so they all should stop crying about not finding american made products ...just go look in the driveways & parking lots in any townusa & be disappointed...

Georgia said...

Yeah Coreen,I was one of those foreign car people forever...My Volvo was my last. Now I drive a GMC Sierra crew cab and I did give it an edge because it is an American product. I was a Polo junkie once as well, wouldn't wear anything but Ralph Lauren, my views on expensive designer clothes has changed too.....

Georgia said...

My income has been slashed in half due to my disability retirement, but I had quit buying those Polo things long before I retired.

Georgia said...

Baseball's back tonight..!!!! The Braves will be on Fox here tomorrow against the Mets....I'm glad, I never get to see them play...heck the last time they were on Carol even watched and was beginning to know the players names....Sunday the Yankees are on WTBS against the LAA......

Georgia said...

Coreen, you know anything about Ben Sheets? He's from the AL and the Braves just picked him up and he starts Sunday...I think he played at the Oakland A's......

Georgia said...

Hope your headache is better Jan, my sister-in-law gets migraines all the time.....I wanted to see Moonrise Kingdom as well, but as usual, didn't come to LC. Didn't you say you and John saw it? Next one for me is "Hope Springs"...a comedy with the one and only Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones....They play a couple with marital problems after being married a long time she decides it's time for them to "get the excitement" back in their marriage and Steve Carrrel (spelling?) is their counselor....Previews look hilarious.....I could watch Meryl Streep read the yellow pages and love it......

Georgia said...

Maybe Carol and I will check it out, we saw the previews at Marigold Hotel movie.....It doesn't start until August 10th, I'll hold my breath to see if it comes to LC on that date.....

Georgia said...

And guess what..?? It's still raining.....my mildew is starting to mildew.....and the grass in my back yard will need a bush-hog to get through.. Fortunately, I had cut my front last Sat. in the nick of time. It's been raining since.....We have St. Augustine down here and when it rains you can "hear" it growing.....What I wouldn't give for a Zoysia yard.

Georgia said...

Hope Carol can get her pool pump fixed soon.. Rain produces algae and without that water circulating it could get away with you, but she did change to the "salt" system and my last pool involvement was a chlorine pool. She may have no problems with the salt system and algae....

Georgia said...

Carol, have you had to let some water out due to all the rain?

Georgia said...

Just heard today is National French Fry Day".....darn, guess I'll have to go to Wendy's to get some.....they have surpassed McDonalds with me with their "Natural-Cut, skins on, sea salt" fries.... They are so yummy but I never met a French Fry or a potato chip, I could resist...

Coreen said...

TW have no info about Sheets...will let you know if the fan guys talk about him since he is starting against the mets & the Fan is the mets home radio station, that I listen to...

mets are hoping to have a good 2nd half & make the playoffs, but they just lost a pitcher who had surgery for blood clot & is out likely for the season...

We have had no rain at all in days...just typical summer weather...

Is it time for the 'dog days', I think it may be...but can't complain, not terrible hot, high 80s pushing 90, a tad humid, but not oppressive at least not yet...may
get all you guys rain this weekend...& the humidity & high temps too...

Coreen said...

I buy Lauren blouses/shirts, slacks, jeans...they are well made if pricey but Lord & Taylor does put them on sale often enough)though they all come from somewhere outside usa...india,
china, indonesia...

believe it or not, my best jeans are now from HSN TV...Diane Gilman who says she has sized them for aging baby boomers like her & guess what I have been having good luck with her jeans...

jan said...

Wow, you guys are getting so much rain in LA.

I do most of my clothes shopping in thrift stores. I look for brand names there LOL. I don't buy shoes, underwear or swimsuits in thrift stores, but anything else goes. My sons/DILs here always give me gift cards for Christopher Banks, a store which carries my size. I have always liked their clothes ( in the last 15 years or so).

jan said...

OK, confession time! I read all of the "Shades of Grey" books - all 3). After reading the 1st one I was hooked. They were really romance novels with a lot of sex. I actually got tired of the sex scenes. How many ways can you describe a sex scene? I must admit, the books were quite a distraction.

jan said...

They are going to do a movie - I guess from the 1st one. It will probably be like the Twilight series, a movie for each book. It will be interesting to see how they do it with all that sex.

Coreen said...

You're busted Jan!!!...but I have heard from a couple of friends that they also couldn't put the books down & one has re-read them
several times...go figure..

From the beginning I said it sounded like an s&m harlequin romance novel...

but I see that you got beyond the s&m scenes...& 'struggled' through the trilogy..

the woman who has re-read them all
claims it is a great love story & in the end anastasia is well in control...

So now who gets to play christian & anastasia in the movie...seems
that ryan gosling (whoever he may be is the front runner)...not sure about the anastasia role...

jan said...

Coreen, I have never read a Harlequin romance novel - and quite honestly - turned my nose down -or is it up - at them.

The writer of the "...Grey..." series is a good writer, she held MY interest.

My sister is the one that talked me into reading them. She read the first one and called me to tell me she was very disturbed by that one. So she asked me to read it. I did and I too was disturbed by all of his (Grey's) control issues.

But then after reading the 1st, I called my sis and she said she had read #'s 2 & 3 and she said "its all right now" She loved the books. So, I read them and I have to admit. I liked them too. He still had his control issues.

I do have some problems with the books - despite the fact that they are "NOVELS" and that is I think some very impressionable young women will read them and think that they can change a man who has control issues. I don't think that is possible.

I may go see the movie -by myself just to see how they manage it.

I think Ryan Gosling would be great as Christina Grey.

Carol said...

Well..that was interesting reading! Lots to ponder this morning.

First of all..Coreen..it is a real shame that we had our Olympic uniforms made in China but it definitely didn't surprise me. Who was the fool who made that decision?? You would think that the ridiculous irony of that decision would have passed thru their heads when they came up with the plan. But...on the other hand...I'd also be pissed if we wasted all that money to have them remade here. Kinda late now. I wonder who made the uniforms the year Romney was the CEO of the organizing committee?? Might be interesting to find out.

Carol said...

Jan..ya don't have to be ashamed about reading the "Shades" books. I even begged that you do and give us a book report but I still haven't seen the book report. You seem to enjoy doing it when you think you are breaking some code of whatever. Kinda back in those rebellious years huh? Did you ever get any of those the first time around?

I really do have a reading disability. Wish I didn't. I love books. I still have to do a lot of reading for my work but it is a struggle. That's where all my brain damage from being born premature..a twin..etc took it's toll. It's not getting better for me with age..like most everything else.

Carol said...

And Coreen..re buying an American vehicle..I did a lot of research when I bought my truck 10 years ago. I was on the road a lot back then. I looked at safety and longevity and Toyota beat everyone else in both. My truck won the truck safety test for front end crashes and I knew people still driving Toyota trucks with hundreds of thousand miles on them. I didn't make enough money back then to make a statement. So far it is the longest I've even had a vehicle last and it still looks and drives good.

I'm still curious about what you guy's opinions are on whether Penn State should keep all their symbols of hero worship of Joe Pa.

Saw a poll last night done by ESPN and.. so far..the country is saying NO. I do think that the decision should wait until all of the facts are in before making the final decision. Also..his fans need to have time to work thru the denial stage of grief. They need to recognize that it was DENIAL that most likely lead to the aiding and abiding of Sandusky.

I'm also very curious about the refusal of the assistant DA back in 1998 to talk with the Freeh investigation. Just a blurb from the report that she did. Her name is Karen Arnold. Since the DA at the time disappeared off the face of the map and can't talk it would be interesting to hear from her. Maybe she is afraid of the same outcome. If I were an investigative reporter I'd be hounding her.

Carol said...

I watched the Yankee's game last night and monitored the Brave's game on iphony. Both had a good outcome. The Yankee's game was exciting to watch.

I turned off my computer since when I left the room it turned itself off. Since I wasn't in the room..I don't know if it had that blue screen of death when it did so I thought I'd give it a rest.

I was pretty much brain dead after my week at work and watching BB is not very demanding.

Carol said...

This last week at work was intense with both the number of patients I saw and the acuity of their medical problems.

My next to last patient yesterday made me particularly nervous. I was glad to be done when I left.

When I see a patient..I always ask when they got there and how long do they expect to have to stay. That's how I determine how much planning needs to be involved in their care.

This guy came in with his arms in his shirt. My secretary/security passed by and told him to get his arms out of his shirt. I couldn't tell if he had any. He just had this mean scowl on his face..almost evil. It took him a little time to respond to her request. After he did..she left and went to her desk.

I'm sitting in a little room across the hall from the nurse's station..not visible from it. My secretary/security sits at her desk that is farthest from my office. No other security was there or anyone else at the time. The inmate is sitting between me and my door but the door always remains open.

I asked my usual questions as to when he got in and how long he might be in. He really didn't respond so I looked at his rap sheet. He had just got in and his rap sheet reported "first degree murder" as his charge. That vicious stare developed more meaning then. I gently called for my sec/sec to come in. She did and I quickly finished my assessment and plan.

After I finished I asked if anyone knew the story of his charges and no one knew much. I checked the local news on iphony and found out that he had just been arrested for killing this 83yo old man at some low income apartments in town. There was a robbery involved. No details yet on exact cause of death.

As I left yesterday I asked the security guys in intake about how safe it was to send a hot off the press murder suspect to see me with no special security. They said it was fine as long as our sec/sec was in the area. Hell..I'd be cold and old before she might find me if the situation took a turn for the worse and like she could take on this tough looking guy. I wasn't a happy camper.

I collected another 1 1/2 inches of rain yesterday. Somewhere around 8-9 inch total for 8 days. Only good thing is that it doesn't rain the entire day. It usually only lasts about half the day.

When I went to the camp yesterday morning to feed my birds..there was 5 inches in my gauge there. I can't remember if I had emptied it the day before. Hope not.

The radar doesn't look very bad this morning and it's only a 50% chance today. I've already had a little shower so maybe that was my 50%. I have chores to go do this morning. Mowing won't be one of them for quite a while even if the grass is up to my knees. It will take a while for the ground to dry up and still have to endure a high percentage of more rain for the foreseeable future.

Carol said...

My pool pump is down and I'm having to add shock to keep the chlorine level up. The pool company I called was supposed to call me back again yesterday and I realized they hadn't.. too late yesterday afternoon to call them. I knew it wouldn't be until next week when they can get to me but I do hope I'm actually on the list.

The pool temp has been around 94 for a while now but I checked it yesterday and it was down to 83. Don't usually see 94 until August but also wouldn't see 83 again until probably November.

jan said...

Gee Carol, that inmate you saw with the murder charge sounds scary. Killing an 83 y/o man sounds bad. Someone that old is pretty defenseless and so this guy sounds like a really bad guy. Glad to hear you are checking these things. out. I don't think they provided you with adequate security.

jan said...

Carol, you asked for a book report on "50 shades" I did not tell much about he book in case someone wanted to read it. The 1st book was very different from 2 & 3 books. The 1st book, for me, brought back some painful stuff - and it did for my sis as well. This guy which the heroine has named "50 shades- is super controlling, into S&M and admits to some abuse as a child but you don't find out about the extent or description of the abuse until 2 & 3 books. There is a lot of descriptions of their sexual activities - some S & M. It is graphic and I must admit - some of it a "turn on." I suspect this may be why Coreen's friend has read the books several times. He has what he calls a "play room" with all kinds of sex toys and S&M stuff. She falls from him from the beginning - she describes him as beautiful, sexy and he is a billionaire. What is not to fall for with all of this? After their first meeting, he pursues her pretty heavily. What was a turn-off for me is that he is jealous, is insistent that she do what he tells or - or there is a threat of punishment - which means "the playroom". His punishment leads her to leave him at the end of the first book. After that I was ready to not read any more. My sister persuaded me to read #s 2 & 3 - telling me that it gets better. It does - she lays down the law to him in book 2 that there are certain things she will not tolerate and he complies - but he continues to remain controlling. That is enough said. Honestly, Carol - you should read the book.

jan said...

She falls "for" him (middle of paragraph).

jan said...

I bet you can find someone to borrow the book from. Most middle aged women are reading it -so I hear. I do like to keep up.

jan said...

some of the sex stuff they do with the sex toys - I have never heard of and would never try. Just plain vanilla sex (their words) has always been enough for me.

Carol said...

Jan..I doubt anyone around here has even heard of 50 Shades..at least those I get to hang with. If it didn't happen in their yard..it didn't happen. I was surprised last week that no one had even heard that a cop shot a dog. The news is in New York and the UK and no one here has heard about it. I have wondered if I really work around humans or do they check into a drawer at night.

Carol said...

Jan..the S and M is the biggest turn off. S and M usually means pain is involved and I'm not a fan of it. Someone who has a room for it would certainly scare me and I probably wouldn't buy the fact that he could be changed into some wonderful guy. I've always had a difficult time reading books or watching any movie that I don't think makes sense even though I know that much of reality doesn't make sense.

The guy being a billionaire would also complicate things. That kind of money would scare me. And the plot doesn't really have that... I'm dying to read it when I have so much I need to read and don't.. attraction. I know you guys do like to read and are up on the current hot issues so I took advantage of it.

Now.. my Doc did read the book when she was on vacation. I think she kinda had the same opinion you did.

Carol said...

I caught another half inch of rain yesterday and the yard is so saturated that it filled up with water. What doesn't look like a lake is real squishy. We even had some sun come out but with all the moisture around it felt like you were standing over a hot steaming pot of soup. Yukkie.

I did all my running around yesterday morning..to Sam's..to Wally World..to the Vet for Maggie's dental diet that she thinks are cookies..to the camp. I was finished around noon and then just did chores around the house.

My potted plants are still kicking and that surprises me.. with all the environmental insults they have endured. The toms and cucs are usually dead by now. Bell peppers will last forever.

I have this one tomato plant that I planted after the others. It was supposed to be a grape tomato but was mislabeled. It has regular sized toms on it but none have ever ripened. One got yellow but that was it. I just realized yesterday that it must be a yellow tom. I picked that half yellow one to ripen on the counter. I looked online and Bonnie plants has yellow toms called Lemon Boy. My old neighbor buddy who died shortly after mom did loved the yellow toms. He said they were less acid. Maybe he had something to do with my getting a yellow tom.

Carol said...

Our humidity right now is 99%. Try to breath in that.

jan said...

Carol, glad your garden is yielding some good stuff. It is hard to remember 99% humidity. We are having warmer days now - low to mid 90's. But not too bad with the low humidity. We are having evening showers 2-4 evenings or nights. They are showers - nothing like the frog stranglers in LA. It is nice though, because they come in the evenings and cool things off.

John has gone to Cloudcroft NM to do an Epis service at a little church there that has lost its priest. It is 3-4 hours drive away so he drove there yesterday afternoon and will drive home today after the service. I sometimes go with him on these jaunts but not this weekend. My youngest GD is having her 11th b'day party this afternoon. John will miss it. Cloudcroft is pretty close to White Sands NM - it is southeast of AlB. It is 9000 feet elev. I talked to him this morning and he says he wishes he had brought a jacket - he was cold.

Remember the elderly lady across the street (look who is calling who"elderly." Anyway, looks like they have put her husb in a LTC facility. Their 2 daughters are here from out of town and I have not seen her husb for couple of days. I saw her and 2 dau's taking clothes out to the car. He was in hosp a couple of weeks ago. He has dementia from a stroke last Nov. and has been wandering off at night. She has had to have police look for him. It is very sad. Another neighbor and I have been walking their dog early mornings. The dog is 13 y/o.

This elderly couple is the last one left in the neighborhood who are original residents (on our street). They built their house in the '50's. She is the one with diabetes that I wrote you about. They are a sweet old couple. She has given me a lot of history about our house. She was good friends with the woman who built our house. We are only the 2nd owners of our house.

Hey Jan.....I was just scrolling through the line up for TCM movies next week and guess what I found...????? On Wed. night coming up, they are airing the Andy Griffith movie "A Face in the Crowd"... 4 stars with I think Patricia Neal,(always a fav with me) at 7pm CT, then at 9:15 CT, " No Time for Sergeants"...It's really a "cute" movie with lots of chuckles......Just thought you'd like to know, I remember reading John liked it..

Georgia said...

Yes Carol, my internet and phone are back in working order....started working last night as mysteriously as it stopped working.

Georgia said...

Well, I get to watch the team I love to hate today.....Yankees are on at noon on WTBS. And Coreen, Carol read on the internet yesterday about Ben Sheets....you won't believe, he is a Louisiana boy, went to St. Amant high school and went to N.E. La. in college. Has not been pitching since 2010 I think Carol read due to injury. He starts for my Braves today, hmmmm.., we'll see. Yesterday's game with the Mets was a darn good one, we had to fight back to win it , but we did it.

Georgia said...

And Jan, I don't think I could read 50 Shades either... The S&M thing is a turn off to me as well...

Georgia said...

Gosh Coreen....I haven't been in Lord & Taylor since I left Atlanta, we have one mall and Dillards and Penneys are our choices, but then again I don't have to buy clothes etc. since I've retired. Just will get by with what I have.

Georgia said...

And the last time I bought Ralph Lauren, I think the tag said "Made in Indonesia".....

Georgia said...

you can't even buy Levi's that are American made and I think "New Balance" is the only sneaker still made here in the USA.

jan said...

Georgia, thanks for the heads up about the Andy Griffith movies. I want to see the one with Patricia Neal. I will tape them.

jan said...

Hmmm. I have a pair of New Balance shoes. They are about to wear out. I need to buy a new pair. Did not know they are made in U.S.

Carol said...

I woke up this morning thinking about what I was concerned about when I left work Friday. I was thinking about how I can improve that situation without getting anyone is trouble and having them pissed off at me. Isn't that pitiful?

I checked the news all weekend and they still won't report how the old guy who was robbed at that apartment complex was killed even though they are ruling it a homicide. Maybe he died of fright..don't know. He was 83 and that guy..the perp.. was pretty scary looking. Wonder why it wasn't obvious how he died??

Carol said...

Jan..the last pair of tennis shoes I bought were also NB and I didn't know they were made in the USA.

Oops TW..my NB shoes say they were made in Indonesia. Sorry.

But you are correct that some are:

"New Balance Made in the USA Shoes Many of our shoes are produced in one of six United States
factories. While most of the footwear industry has moved its production overseas to take advantage of Low labor costs and generally cheaper production costs we continue to have many of our shoes made in the United States and have expanded production substantially. Since 1995 we have increased our manufacturing jobs by 65%. MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE MADE IN THE USA SELECTION.
Not all NB shoes are American Made"

I think it is interesting that I went from a person totally obsessed with politics to someone who is totally phobic of it. I avoid all political news now.. even my favs..Jon and Stephen. I can't even laugh at it anymore.

Even though I'm not crazy about Obama..Romney is a complete goober..a very rich goober. Even many of his peeps don't care for him. Because that is the best they could do..makes me think they are OK with Obama..which worries me about him even more.

What do you think of the American Idol judge situation? I'm really over that show anyway. I'm tired of investing so much time and energy in that show just to see someone mediocre end up winning it.

jan said...

I will watch Amer Idol. I enjoy seeing the discovery of new singing talent. I agree that many times the final winner is not the most talented singer and that some of the most talented get kicked off earlier, but I still like the show. I do wish they would change the way voting is conducted.

jan said...

Good for you Carol, you check things out (New Balance).

I woke up at 4 am this morn. Could not go back to sleep. Did some ironing for an hour or so then had my tea. By the time it was light enough to walk I was sleepy so slept until 9 am.

Carol said...

Well..I got the answer to my earlier question. Romney also outsourced the Olympic uniforms when he was at the helm. Figures.

Carol said...

Pool people are due to get my pool pump motor changed today.

I think I may have made it thru a day without rain yesterday. I hope my yard does get a chance to dry out before I need a bush hog to cut the grass.

Coreen said...

Guess you are still reading huff&puff Carol...and what answer did you get?...

a predictably inaccurate accusation that Romney outsourced the olympic uniforms...

Was it Romney's company that provided the uniforms or was it an
American clothing manufacturer that had those uniforms made in myanmar?....but as usual the latest
attempt to undermine Romney, facts are unimportant...

FYI, something like 98% of clothing is not made in the usa...

when I mentioned the 'outcry' & handwringing by some politicians about the 2012 olympic uniforms, in particular Harry Reid who called for burning them & nancype, I thought then & still think they
are perfect examples of the ultimate hypocrisy of
the d.c. pols who take cheap shots for political reasons & do nothing to change things...

And though I think the 2012 olympic uniforms by Ralph Lauren are well ugly...French berets & double breasted jackets...the last time I checked Lauren was an american company...

I may not like foreign made products as I have said so many times...but at least if you buy products from American companies in the end the profits stay here...
like automobiles...

& yes you have repeatedly said how wonderful your toyota truck is...so what...in the end
if you want to support american made (I think you liked Buddy because of that) we all need to act accordingly as much as you can....

& yes I know the current trend is to attack any entity that makes profits...class warfare & all that...to that again I say plain BS!!!...

Coreen said...

Oh & just so you know, if I sound annoyed...more likely disappointed...

I get that you despise Romney & all things repub (that is my opinion of everything you write about politics)...but hoped at some point everyone would start looking at the facts on which to form an opinion, rather than falling for the agenda driven half-truths pushed by the usual suspects & yes that goes for the repub spinners as well...

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, which is just that an opinion not necessarily factual or the reality...& I did mention awhile ago it seems that both sides can come up with their version of 'truthiness' (isn't that from one of you old favs) but the actual reality is somewhere in the middle...keep hoping that rational thinking will take hold, but seems that is a long way off in today's climate...

Coreen said...

Now for something less contentious...at least as far as I am concerned...

New study says women now have higher iq then men...actually would have thought they always would perform better on these tests...

As if some of us didn't already know this...the study did not include u.s. women but here's hoping that us americans would also
score higher....
Women beat men on IQ tests

"Toyota’s large Tundra pickup, built in San Antonio, Texas, and the Sienna van, from a factory in Princeton, Ind., also made the list. Of the top 10 vehicles on the American Made index, five of them come from Japanese car makers."

http://blogs.wsj.com/drivers-seat/2010/06/23/made-in-usa-a-toyota-is-most-american-car/

Carol said...

My Tundra is one of the top ten most American made vehicles. That's nice to know.

Coreen said...

Again Carol, the destruction of the mfr base in this country began with the mindset that american cars were/are inferior...which is continued ad nauseum (& in my own experience overblown claims) to this day...

That your tundra was built/assembled here doesn't change the bottom line...am glad that japanese co. is employing american workers, though reasonably sure they are not union workers...it remains a product of a foreign company...& though the supporters of japanese cars cry so what...the profits still return to the company's hq outside the u.s.

I am fully aware that Chyrsler became a less than american co awhile ago, before fiat merger, it was daimler chrysler...

Things aren't looking too good for George Z either. People are coming out of the woodwork to bring out some of his less pleasant family secrets and it's his relatives.

Someone responding to a article I read wrote this in the comments section. Jan, I thought you might enjoy this because you part Cherokee.

An old Cherokee told his grandson,

“My son, there’s a battle between two wolves inside us all.

One is Evil.

It’s anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies, and ego.

The other is Good.

It’s joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, and truth.”

The boy thought about it and asked,

“Grandfather, which wolf wins?”

The old man quietly replied,

“The one you feed.”

Well..I finally got my pool pump motor replaced and a new bulb in my pool light.

My pool light and a back flood light were on the same power source. I had my camp neighbor put a new light in the flood light that shines out on the pool but after he did, it didn't work so I thought something might be wrong with the power going to both that light and the pool light. This morning I turned on that light from inside the house so when the guys changed the pool light they could check it. The flood light came on. When they checked the pool light, it was just the bulb that was burned out. So tonight, there will finally be light in the back.

I had lights on all sides of the house except the back. I do have these little solar lights all around the pool but I wouldn't have been able to see anything if it fell in the pool after dark.

jan said...

Glad you have your pool stuff working Carol.

It was nice to be able to walk outside by the pool at night again.

jan said...

Carol, Love the story about the old Cherokee g'father. Sounded like some things my dad has told me before.

jan said...

Lots going on at work. I am just simply staying out of the fire and doing my job. A huge conflict between someone I work closely with and administration. I am playing "dumb." There is fault on both sides but I am taking neither side.

jan said...

Interesting, reading back over the Cherokee thing above, so much of what is behind this conflict is ego, jealousy, anger and resentment.

Carol said...

It is interesting and sad about those people at Penn State who are standing strong to protect their symbols of hero worship of Joe Paterno. I don't think any decisions should be made until all the facts are in but there is enough to prove that he was very much involved in covering up child molestation. And yes..one very bad decision can undo years of really good works. And the people standing up for Joe are saying that those kids were expendable.

Carol said...

Jan..it's hard to be around that kind of conflict without getting drawn in to it..even just to show sympathy. Some people seem to thrive on conflict even though they don't recognize it or would never admit it. I think I have in the past. Actually..I know I have.

Conflict and anger can be preferable to boredom. It stimulates adrenalin but it takes it's toll also. Lately..I have been trying to avoid it like the plague. I really can't avoid it at work and you know that that environment is ripe for lots of negativity. When I get home..I want total peace even if I have to avoid all humans to accomplish it.

jan said...

Another mass murder in Colorado. This one took place not far from Columbine. Scary! I suspect the guy is mentally ill. Men often have the first psychotic break in late teens or as young adults. The guy is 24 y/o.

Carol said...

That was a horrible tragedy in Colorado.

I dozed off listening to the news about it on HLN and woke up about 9p. I stepped out on the back porch and the wind started blowing really hard. It was so loud I thought it was heavy rain. I went in quick and checked the radar and it looked pretty scary. We had a severe thunderstorm warning.

The power is out so my laptop won't be on for long. I never use the battery power so it doesn't last as long as it would if I would challenge it more often.

I just stepped outside in the front yard and there is the top of a very large pine tree laying in my driveway just past the front of my house. I'm not sure which pine tree it came from but it is a very big chunk of it. Part of it in on my truck but it doesn't look like a big part of it. It must have jumped the house because I didn't hear it hit the house. Actually, now that I think about it, I did hear a big bang but thought it was a loud clap of thunder. I had Maggie in my lap and we both jumped. I hope I don't have a hole in my roof. Can't see anything until daylight.

Power company website said no power until 6 am and that is if I still have it attached to my house. That isn't the side where my power comes in but can't see that side. I think a tornado must have passed over. It would have taken a powerful force to rip that off the top of one of my five story high pine trees out here.

Carol said...

Just came out to my truck to charge up my cell phone since it was almost out of gas. My headlights gave me a better look at that pine tree. Half of a huge pine tree is down. God slipped that bady neatly between my truck, golf cart and the front of my house. Can't see any serious damage yet.

Carol said...

Mother Mary came thru for me again like she did in Rita. I'll get a pic in the morning. Mag and I were blessed.
If that tree would have come down just a little to either side it would have taken out half my house or my truck.

Coreen said...

Hope things are getting back to normal this a.m. Carol...

Looks like you guys had severe
weather last night...

Around here pine trees are one of the most likely trees to fall during storms...

Carol said...

Ain't normal yet. No Power. Entergy reports maybe by 10 p. and the sun is out. Have two places but both on the same power grid. May have some roof damage. Thank God for iPhone. Wish I knew what the news was.

Carol said...

Well things keep getting more interesting and not in a good way. Went to the camp and didn't initially notice anything except some stuff blown around. Then my neighbors who were out cleaning up told me my roll roof over the dinning area and kitchen had blown up. I was planning on getting a new roof there anyway but hadn't gotten around to it.

When I went in the camp the floor was flooded and ceiling dripping down. I cleaned what I could in the extreme heat in there. Still no power

Saw another blob of red on the radar barreling this way. I needed to try to roll the roof back to keep more rain out. My helper neighbor not home. I got some supplies and tried to do it myself. Even using a fulcrum to help, I could not budge it. I again went for 50 shades of hunk. He was home but working on a generator. He said he would come down and help but I was running out of time to beat the nasty red stuff on the radar. He did finally get there with help. We got it roiled back over and tacked it down just in the nick of time. Boy when it rains, it pours...no pun intended.

jan said...

Wow Carol, Good thing you checked on your camp. You have some great neighbors.

Carol said...

Now the Entergy site says no power until 11p Monday. Hope that is a mistake. Someone said she got a message that they had to get some part from Illinois. They better airmail it here.

Carol said...

Both places have frig and freezers full.

Well Maggie and I just got back from a run for ice drinks and Popeyes fried chicken. We split it. She might have had more than me. Can't open frig just in case they do get power back in time to save stuff.

I needed the outing to cool off and to gas up iPhony. I gased the truck so I can continue to do the above. This is the sum total of my entertainment. Not much to do in the dark alone and without power.

Carol, You might want to get out your coolers and ice down some stuff.

Jan. there's way too much food in 2 refrigerators and one freezer for any cooler. Its already a bitch just to survive without power. A simple trip to the bathroom is work. Then both of my places are chaotic right now. I have.hard time keeping up with just the normal stuff on a perfect day. I'm sitting in my truck with my phone plugged in having coffee. Nice to just hear my radio. I've gotten used to sleeping in 80 plus heat. Actually had my sheet on

It seems like my area of about 500 plus residences is one of the areas still without power. There are other spotty outages. I think we were low on the priority list. I'm going to find a close hotel that will take the Mags and me and we're going there for the day to relax. I'm waiting for it to get light enough to pack up some stuff.

I'm going to have to contact my insurance agent for both places. I think I have a high deductible so much of this will be out of pocket.

Both of my sisters are hating me right now because they want to sign the final papers to sell our farm without waiting the time to qualify for our crop payments. That represents a 3300 buck loss for each of us. Im refusing. I have a little more respect for money. It's only 60 more days and all the paperwork and legal evaluation isnt even complete yet. When that is done the wait will be less. They both depend on me to do most of the work, on my time and at my expense then want to hurry up for their contribution to the project which is....show me my money.

I'm sure both of them are interpreting my current circustances as my bad karma for not bowing to their demands. My interpretation is...don't throw away money because you never know when you'll need it.

No good words to offer Carol, the nightmare of no electricity was driven home to CT residents last year when we had the 2 incidents with those extended power outages for a week+...& after all the investigations as to the failure of the power companies to get everyone online quickly...today it would be the same outcome if similar events happened again...

I was fortunate both times, but having endured power failures so many times before last year was the tipping point...

Does your sister & TW have electricity...or are they dealing with the same conditions as you...

Sounds like the hotel stay would be a benefit for you & Mags...hope
you can find one...

So sorry Carol to hear of this electrical outage and your sisters' unwillingness to see your side of this. I am with you. It seems foolish to "cash in" when if you wait just 2 more months, you will each be richer.

Rats, I think we were getting close and now another thunderstorm overhead. Cools things down but stops electric line work. I just drove down to look and their buckets on the trucks are up in the middle of dense Oak trees. You'd think they would have cut all the limbs away first

I talked with my tree man and he said the top of that pine tree that came down caught on a big branch of the Oak tree that hangs over the house. That diverted the tree away from my house.

I was going to try to switch my insurance to State Farm because they quoted me a much better price for auto insurance. They refused to cover my house unless I cut down that 200 plus year old Oak tree that hangs over my house. I told them that it actually protected my house during Rita. I had no damage under the tree except little leaves and branches down. It was here way before me and will be here way after if I have anything to do with it.

From what I can see...it came thru for me again. Thank you Mr Oak tree.

Just looked at the outage map and besides spotty outages here and there, we are the only major area left without power.

One positive is that I only consumed a small fraction of what I normally eat. Sweating could have knocked off a couple a more pounds.
