A Walk to Remember

Saturday when I took my morning walk, it seemed that many plants on my route had blossomed overnight. I was so caught up in the beauty of nature that I forgot about my aches and pains. I ran (well not really) home for my camera.  When I see things beautiful or interesting, I think of my two good friends here at the swamp and want to share what I am seeing with you.  The last picture I took was of the beautiful moon this morning.

I was unable to find the pic of moon in my downloads. You are seeing the moon from where you live, so another time.

jan said...

Most things have to be watered a lot here, but the plants I posted do very well here with little water.

Coreen said...

Pretty colorful neighborhood Jan...& I remember the houses are
also colorful too...I only recognize the iris in the last pic...

I know what you mean Jan, when you
say that what you saw while walking immediately made you think oh I have to capture this & share
it...

And yes Carol we have you to thank for making us work!!! at
getting all the pics to share....

Guess what, wouldn't have it any other way...

Carol said...

Great pics Jan. I love your flowers and architecture there.

Carol said...

You guys should never leave home without your cameras. It should be part of your hand. I really don't need mine anymore since I have iphony. She does everything.

Carol said...

Don't you have a smart phone Jan?

Carol said...

Are you ready to dance? I see you won't have to be distracted with a BB game tonight Coreen. Glad to see the Yanks kicked ass last night.

I heard that Baltimore used a 1st baseman to pitch today because they were out of relief pitchers. He did pretty good.

Coreen said...

Ok so here's another story about how 'fat' Americans are...well actually in the words of the
'experts' obese...seems 36% are
obese,just plain fat...

& while they keep tsk, tsking these developments & how it can't continue...please tell me in the
real world how will this change...
I see not one thing, zero, zip that
can be done to change this(unless the world starts dancing every day!)....tell me something I don't know & how to actually correct the problem...

Has anyone come up with any real
working way to stop the overeating
american public...I don't think so...
Obesity continues

Coreen said...

Oh and sadly that fat cat...39# that the elderly owner couldn't care for & was turned over to the
Santa Fe animal shelter...died...

Don't like this story, since they were parading the cat around on TV just a few weeks ago, saying they were going to put him on a diet, in a foster home...& now he is dead...I don't like it...

Carol said...

I don't like it either Coreen.

Carol said...

I do think Marie is showing herself to be the best of the dancers. Just my opinion. It does help that Derek does the choreography.

Carol said...

I wasn't as crazy about Donald's dance as the judges were. Didn't like his facial expressions and thought it appeared a little stompy. I know that's not a word.

Coreen said...

Missed Donald, but Maria & Derek were poetry...sheer elegance...

By the way has Derek ever been paired with well a less than 'perfect' partner? No Kirsties or Rickies for him as far as I can remember....

Carol said...

Melissa is stumbling around the floor.

Carol said...

Needed to correct a typo.

I don't know if Derek is straight but if he is.. I can just imagine that he would be wonderful at making love. If he's gay..it would be such a waste because I doubt men would want slow and beautiful.

Coreen said...

Probably Melissa's best, but don't see how it could keep her in it much longer...

Carol said...

Lost it a little bit???? Those judges are blind. She stumbled all over the beginning of that dance.

Carol said...

That must be a pity vote or those judges are blind as bats.

Carol said...

That toss and spin was a tad rough for Katherine.

Carol said...

It's the most I've seen Katherine actually dance.

Coreen said...

Katherine & Mark...just as beautiful...

It will be the blonde & the brunette in the finals, or else
its fixed...

Carol said...

Katherine is beautiful and graceful but I think she's been consistently overscored. Probably because she is so beautiful and graceful. I hope she didn't wrench something with the end of that dance. It was jerky.

Carol said...

I think Carrie Ann was more on target with her scoring of that dance. People are easily distracted by beauty. That's a fact.

Carol said...

I still just love Roshon. He's no beauty so he won't get what he desires from the public.

Carol said...

I hope their scores are as good as their comments.

Coreen said...

The young guy has really developed into a good dancer...but still don't know that he can go the distance...just a bit to boyish...

Carol said...

He should have gotten 3 10s.

Carol said...

He's not going to go the distance because he doesn't meet with America's definition of beauty. It's a sad fact. His youth or looks shouldn't matter.

Carol said...

That's the best I've seen William do. Not as good as Roshon but he's more America's definition of whatever they like..sexy..suave.

Coreen said...

After your comments about Derek looked him up...didn't know he was
raised a Morman, born in Salt Lake
City, to a dancing/theatrical family...shipped out to London early on, where he was guided by Mark Ballas parents...they are close friends...

rumored to be enchanted with Katherine this season...& since my memory must be slipping...he actually was paired with ricki lake
last season...but I forgot...

apparently had a romance with some english singer who I never heard of...but they split up already....& had one other romance with a dancing partner shannon elizabeth...

Carol said...

Screw Len! He wasn't better than Roshon. This is pure bullshit!

Coreen said...

William is a leading man...Roshon
is still too young....& boyish...

Carol said...

I missed the very beginning of Donald's dance but the other was great and a tough dance.

Carol said...

Coreen..age doesn't have anything to do with talent! They are supposed to be judged on skill and talent..not looks or sex appeal.

Carol said...

It's not a contest of who you want to have sex with!

Carol said...

But maybe it is for most of the public and the judges.

Carol said...

I think he got ripped.

Carol said...

Maria good but not as good as Donald.

Coreen said...

Well if you think it is only the dance, guess what you lose...

Coreen said...

Now while Derek is exceedingly creative, that threesome just didn't do anything for me...& naturally I hated the guys in those skirt/pants...bollywood or not...

Carol said...

Actually Melissa did better than I expected. I figured she'd fall on her ass. Helps to be flanked by two hunks.

Coreen said...

Not sure if this is Melissa's swan song...but she sure did her best...

Carol said...

Yes..the hunks can distract me.

Coreen said...

And there you have it Carol, you just said it...2 hunks...leading man....that is as much a part of the dance as the
sexy costumes on the women...& that is why Roshon is out of his league...he is just a boy against these guys...

Carol said...

Dang wardrobe malfunction.

Carol said...

She did well handling that wardrobe malfunction.

Carol said...

I certainly can appreciate beauty..sexy..hunkiness but it doesn't bias me. I'm not that shallow.

Carol said...

Someone who is tall and attractive is considered smarter. Someone fat is considered to be not as smart.

Carol said...

Another overscore for Katherine!

Carol said...

The others went off at times also but leave it to them to only pick on Roshon. Sorry Roshon. This is a shallow world you live in.

Carol said...

I'll be giving Roshon all my votes again tonight but I know it won't help.

Carol said...

William did well.

Coreen said...

Well now its time for my real hunk...alex oloughlin is back after his 'prescription' drug rehab...5 0 awaits...see ya...

Carol said...

I'm glad to see I'm not totally alone with my assessment. This is just a little of what Courtney said on Pure DWTS"

"A few things became abundantly clear to me in the midst of tonight’s show: the judges’ heads have been up William & Cheryl’s asses so long that their oxygen supply has been cut off (and brain damage has occured), Carrie Ann switches motives faster than most people blink, Maria & Derek should probably just knock boots and get it over with, Roshon is this season’s forgotten man, and Katherine’s dancing is about as exciting as eating dry white toast."

Pure DWTS

Carol said...

I really enjoy looking at your pics Jan. I don't like the way this newer format doesn't let us look at the pics after making comments. I have to open a new tab and pull up the blog to see them.

jan said...

I missed your comments about DWTS last night. Just too tired to turn on the old 'puter after cleaning out a closet yesterday evening.

Thanks for the complements on the pictures. I enjoyed taking them. Will try and get some more.

I have been laughing my head off and almost peed myself reading your comments to each other back and forth. You two are like a comedy routine.

Carol thanks for posting the comment from Pure DWTS. That was great

jan said...

I think there is something strange going on between Melissa and Macks. I think he is downright abusive to her and she excuses it. Reminds me of a domestic violence (verbal) situation.

I think she is a woman who is getting older and willing to take it from a young good looking guy. Apparently the women of America like Macks despite the fact that he has been verbally and emotionally abusive to several of his partners.

jan said...

Just goes to show that women in this country have not "gone a long way baby."

jan said...

Maybe that book """something something grey" about women liking bondage in order to be taken care of both emotionally and sexually is right on target - at least with some women.

Carol said...

Yes Jan..women have gone a long way backwards..baby. I don't even want to admit I belong to that group. I'm going to make a sub-category to place myself in.

Carol said...

I do think there is a problem with Max and Melissa..she's not that good and he doesn't like it and he can't beat her into getting better. She hit the wall...and at least a couple of times last night. I do respect where she started and how far she's come. I couldn't do it. But she's lasted longer than those who were much better and I think that might be because of the women supporting Max.

My sub category will have to remove the man from woman. Maybe a womwom. You notice we have man involved with all of our titles...woMAN..woMEN..feMALE. Ever noticed that before? That might be the problem.

Carol said...

And you must notice that the male part of each of our titles has the most letters. I have no problem with men..but we must stop letting them dominate our species.

Carol said...

You know if Joshua stays in until the last three there will be a concert here for him. The last three get a hometown concert. I heard they are looking for a place to hold it..just in case.

Our big civic center here is out because there is already an annual festival going on..Contraband Days.

jan said...

I hope Joshua makes it to the final three. He sure deserves to be there. Of all the singers, he has the most unique sound. He will be big, no matter what.

Carol said...

Guess what state is number one in LEAST obese pets?? I was surprised too. It's Louisiana. Connecticut tied with several states for the next least obese. Minnesota was first in most obese and Washington was number four in most obese. And the people there consider themselves so highly evolved. Huh.

Pet Obesity: The Most And Least Obese States For Dogs And Cats In The U.S.

Carol said...

Ready for some dancing.

I just love Donald. He's my fav of all the football stars they've had over the years.

Carol said...

If Melissa survives to see another dance...

Carol said...

The voting public never fails to disappoint me.

Carol said...

Well..at least the judges finally judged Roshon a little more realistically last night. And I do mean little. He was third from the top. I do think the judges have an agenda from the start of the show. This is just another one of those reality TV shows.

Carol said...

I was wrong. Roshon finished second last night.

Coreen said...

Welll our David Robertson came through in his first test as the Yankees closer...but it was nerve wracking...he thows too many pitches....this is going to take a lot of getting used to, not having Mariano in the wings...

Carol said...

Is he a newbe Coreen?

jan said...

Carol, It must be great to have something that Louisiana is best in (least obese pets). I see Arkansas is 2nd in that area. New Mexico was not on the list, I see. I see Connecticut was in there too. Good for both of you.

jan said...

I was satisfied with the results of DWST. I do think the judges were more fair with Roshon last night. However Lin was pretty harsh with Derek and Maria.

Carol said...

Jan..I had a little talk with myself last night. I said self..does anything really make much sense in this life? Self said..NO. Then get over it. Then I went and did some housework. That will take care of anything that's bothering ya.

I decided that if I like to watch the dancing..I'll watch it and skip that stupid voting which is all BS anyway. And skip the results show..which is also BS. And try to get to get used to the fact that life is full of BS..even if your a vegan..which I was last night when I ate a half of a pot of the okra..onions and tomatoes I cooked last night. That cleaned out the old colon. Dr. Oz would be proud of what I laid after that.

Carol said...

And in New Mexico..I guess you have some fat pets and some skinny pets. Ya just didn't make the list. When I saw we were first..in least obese pets..I thought that maybe the people here were eating the pet food and that's why our pets are not obese cuz our citizens sure are. But then..Louisiana has been climbing off the bottom or the top of every bad list. We are evolving. We still have a reputation but don't really deserve it anymore.

Some of you elite Yanks up in the north keep putting us southerns down but as I've learned about how you feel about things..Coreen..you'd actually fit in pretty well down here. And our taxes are a hell of a lot better. We'll move over the snakes and gators and let you come down.

Carol said...

I saw our "Nemo" on the Trail yesterday. I'm happy to know she's OK. I wonder how much little one has grown? Be nice to see a pic. Maybe she's getting old enough to start blogging herself.

When thinking about how unfair some of these dumb contests are..I also thought that if that seems screwy what about the contest for who will lead the "free world"? Those turkeys aren't the best this country has to offer..I hope.. and that is sooo much more important than who gets the dumb mirror ball.

Carol said...

Two things to look forward to today..my last day of work for two weeks and watching Idol. I hope our Joshua hangs another week so he can get his hometown concert. I'm not going cuz I'm not a concert kind of person but there are lots of people looking forward to that. They can't have the concert in his hometown because it's too small so they'll have it here. I'll have to vote at least one more time.

Carol said...

And Nemo..if you occasionally drop by the Swamp..I want to tell you that you need to try to give yourself more love. From your comments on the Trail..I fear you are not showing yourself enough love. We each are the only ones who will love us unconditionally. With everyone else..it's conditional. I'm still working on that myself. Not sure if I'll ever get there.

Coreen said...

Carol, David Robertson has been the go to guy for the 8th inning for a couple of years...& a standout in that position...transitioning to the closer is not easy...& how he will
manage it remains a huge unknown...but he throws a lot of pitches, which can reduce his effectiveness long term...

Coreen said...

Not sure I saw the same thing at TM with chloe &/or nemo, whatever that was all about...just thought it was odd/strange....have no idea
of what she meant at all...

Carol said...

Happy Vacation to me!

Coreen..some of us who are students of psychology and appreciate that subject would take the comments of.. you know who.. to indicate that she's feeling a little unimportant.

You know who.. was someone who always tried to make everyone else feel accepted and welcome. She made it a point to compliment people. I often thought that she may have felt like she didn't get that returned.

Some of us aren't real good at giving compliments. If I give a compliment..you better feel special because it's not in my DNA to do it. I may be thinking it but it might not come out of my mouth.

I was raised by a mom who didn't give out approval very often. Us kids were always working for it. I probably tried harder since I actually lived out mom's dream but I never felt like I quite did enough. My other sibling didn't get as much approval as I did.

Consequently..none of us were ever good at giving compliments especially to one another. We followed in the old girl's footsteps.

I remember one day sitting at the kitchen table with mom. She was reading about one of my colleagues in the paper. I had actually taught the woman in nursing school and then we were teaching together at the U. The article in the paper said this person was writing state board of nursing questions. Mom asked why I didn't do it. I said that I didn't want to. She said..well you are also a diabetes educator. I said yep and so is she. She kept naming things I've done and I said..yep and so did she. I finally said..and mom..she is also a wife and mother and I'm not. It was like mom wanted me to be better than this woman. I just didn't do enough.

Coreen said...

Carol, as I said I have no idea what the meaning &/or intention of those TM comments...other than they seemed distinctly strange..I am not sure your well-meaning advice/suggestions to nemo/chloe would be appreciated, that is if she ever swings by here...that's all...

So it was easier for you to switch off your work obligations before vacation started this time?...that is a positive step toward 'freedom'...

Carol said...

Coreen..I didn't switch off my work obligations until 5p today. I was answering calls after I got home. Actually both clinics were calling at the same time. I don't often get calls at night anymore but I will answer tonight because technically it is still today.

Carol said...

Jan..my homeboy Josh needs your love tonight. We want to get to have him at home for a celebration this weekend. The entire area is talking about it. The Sheriff even changed a big fundraiser he's having to be able to accommodate a potential concert for Josh at a coliseum here.

jan said...

I will use all my votes for Joshua tonight.

Carol said...

Thank you sister!

Carol said...

Philip is very pitchy. I can't believe those judges. He wouldn't get by Simon.

Carol said...

Holly is kick ass!

Carol said...

Joshua brought tears to my eyes.

Carol said...

Jessica was good as always.

Carol said...

OMG..Josh Hollie and Philip sing one of my favs from Foreigner..Waiting for a Girl Like You.

Carol said...

Philip did his second song well. Have to give him credit for that one.

Carol said...

These kids seem like they have been performing for years. Must have been in their last lives.

Carol said...

The judges were too tough on Hollie with her second song. I didn't agree with them.

Carol said...

Josh should have sewed it up with his last song!

Carol said...

Jessica is 16 going on 30. She has a much older soul. Her last song was outstanding.

Carol said...

She sang the hell outta that song!

Carol said...

50 votes for Josh in 15 minutes. Not bad for an old lady.

Carol said...

Ouch..Yankees blew that game at the end.

Carol said...

Jan..what did you think of Idol tonight?

jan said...

We just finished watching Joshua sing his 2nd song - "Its a Man's world" He does not know how good he is. I am crazy about him. I would buy his album now. I am giving all my votes to him tonight. I know I said it before but I will say it again.

jan said...

At this point I want Joshua to win. I know he is a guy and the girls have not won for so long, but I don't care. Joshua is the BOMB.

Carol said...

Jan..you can tell you have grandkids. Your the bomb? LOL

Carol said...

Joshua is a very humble kid.

Carol said...

Jan..I rate them..Josh..Jessica..Hollie..and way down below the last two that were already voted off is Phillip. Sorry Phillip.

jan said...

I rate them the same as you.

jan said...

This is Joshua's and Hollie's 2nd try out on AI. I did not realize that.

jan said...

I loved all of their music tonight. One of my favorite nights. These kids are so talented.

Carol said...

I did not realize that either Jan.

Carol said...

TV channels and newspaper have been talking up Joshua here. I sure hope he's in the top 3. The entire area would be crushed if not.

Carol said...

They'll have to spray the town with Prozac.

jan said...

Did you see Ryan's girlfriend on Idol tonight. It is Julianne Hough, Derek's sister. I thought he was going to propose to her on the show. He is not that stupid. Can you imagine someone proposing in front of millions of people and the other person saying "no."

jan said...

I cannot believe it is almost time for all of my fav shows to be over for the summer. What am I going to do??? I guess rent some movies. Maybe I will try and get more exercise.

jan said...

oops!

Carol said...

She is very pretty.

Carol said...

What did you think of Jessica's last song. It was outstanding!

Carol said...

What I don't think is right is that these kids can vote by phone or text as many times as they want. If you vote online..you are limited to 50 votes. There should be a limit.

I was reading a Facebook post and this young kid who is a friend of the girl who I was reading..voted for Phillip 250 times. That's how guys like Phillip can stay in the contest over those with far more talent. The rules should be changed to reflect the number of people voting..not how many times these kids vote.

Carol said...

And maybe they just don't tell people that over a certain number of calls doesn't count. They may be making money on those calls. I don't think they make money on online votes so they limit them.

Carol said...

Well..I'm going to have to sweat out the results tonight.

I'm afraid who might get booted tonight. Never know with these kids and their texting. They can text as many votes as they want. I see that as a big flaw in American Idol. A very big flaw.

What is wrong with putting a limit on the number of calls. I still bet it's because Idol makes money on some of those kids who go over their limit on texting. Again..it's probably a money thing. Money is screwing up everything. It is the root to all evil as they say.

Carol said...

I think that the judges screwed little Hollie last night. I was moved by the song that they didn't like. I felt her emotion..that they didn't. It felt like they were marking her for elimination tonight.

Phillip is just so so. I don't think he's even in tune much of the time and there are some who go ga ga over him. I can't see that he is particularly attractive or charismatic so I don't know what it is but I have to remind myself of that "chicken catcher" season on America's Got Talent. He took it all home. Has anyone heard anything about him???? He's probably now got his own chicken farm and can hire his own chicken catcher.

The two stand outs last night were Joshua and Jessica..our two choices Jan. They were both over the top.

Carol said...

I tried to Google Kevin Skinner..AKA the chicken catcher. Got nada. Yeah..America's got voting talent alright.

Carol said...

I haven't seen this weeks Modern Family but from what I read it will have special meaning for me.

The families go to Disney World and there's a problem keeping up with the little adopted daughter of the two gay guys. She is a runner and they have to use a leash to hold on to her.

I told you that big sis had to do that with her youngest. He was also a runner and she was a little older when she had him. Once..on a visit down here..we were out shopping at some clothing store. Sis had her son on that leash. I was so embarrassed that I couldn't even walk with them..even though the leash was the only safe way to keep up with him. He made it worse by crawling on all fours and barking.

Carol said...

What's so great about Modern Family is that they do borrow moments from all of our lives. It's extra funny when you've also been there.

Carol said...

Guys I was pondering an idea. Maybe it's too late to do. I thought that since Mother's Day is this coming Sunday..I thought that maybe we could each find a pic of our mom's or our mom with each of us to post as a Mother's Day post.

I know Coreen..you don't seem to be as intimidated by the pic format..so would you do it? Just an idea. I have a pic that I like but I'll need to get it online.

Let me know what you think of the idea. I guess I could do it also but Coreen has put together different pics from different places very successfully.

Jan..do you have any pics of your mom that you could send to someone?

Coreen said...

Carol, I could probably do that, but in order to have all pics in a single post, you would have to email the pics to me so I can add to my pictures then into a post...

The only other way I know of for me to capture one of your pics is to send it to my pictures after you have posted it on your blog...

Don't know of any other way to incorporate everyone's pics into one posting...

jan said...

I agree, they should change the way people can vote.

jan said...

Carol, if you can post a pic of you and your mom on FB, I can download it and post it on here with mine. I can scan my pic of my mom and me.

Coreen, if you post a pic here, I can download it and then post all 3 pics here.

See Carol, I too am pretty tech savvy when it comes to pictures. na na na na na = he he he

jan said...

I have seen people with their little kids on leashes. I don't have any problem with it. Kid safety is the main issue. My DIL in AR has MS and she needed to put her girls on leashes when they were small. The first was not a runner, but one time they were in an elevator and when it stopped to let other people off, the little one got off and mom could not move fast enough to get off too. It all turned out ok, but could have been a disaster. Fortunately another mother stayed with the child until DIL got to her. DIL's 2nd child was a runner and it was a big problem.

jan said...

DIL never put her girls on leashes however. Sometimes I wish she would have.

jan said...

Coreen, I can send my pic to you if I have your e-mail address.

Carol said...

Dang..I got two volunteers. Great. I don't care which one does it but whoever does..we'll email our pics to that one. Y'all toss a coin. You're both great at posts and I helped inspire it. I'm a proud mama.

Carol said...

I'm watching Howard Stern. I can't believe that I've become a fan. I just love him.

TW told me about his wife being on Ellen yesterday. She said his wife said he is nothing like his radio persona. He kind..loving..creative.

Today..he's on the View. Same thing here. Maybe it's because he's mellowed but I've wanted to give him a standing O several times now.

If you didn't see any program..I'm sure you can find them online.

Carol said...

Now..I'm gonna have to watch America's Got Talent. Maybe I'll just bump off DWTS. I'm over it.

jan said...

I will send my pic to Coreen. I will have to find a pic first - will do it tonight. Going to a conference today.

jan said...

Found Coreen's e-mail address on an e-mail you sent to both of us.

Carol said...

And the post needs to include Jan..as a mom..with her children.

Carol said...

Well..Jan..you need to dig out some pics of you with your kids and grandkids if you have that. Hope you have some.

Carol said...

I'm working on finding my fav pic of mom and me. I think I've posted it here or a link to it. I think I know where it is or I can scan it in with that gadget that Coreen suggested that Twin give me for Christmas.

Carol said...

I'm going to try something interesting tonight. I do still have a little left over okra et al. I think my innards are very happy with me since I've been on my veggie diet.

I hit Wally World and tonight I'm doing some roasted veggies..quartered new potatoes..large diced up onions..bell pepper..zucs.. and squash. TW suggested dousing with EVOO and sprinkling with the Ranch Dsg mix. Maybe a little Tony's also?? Not sure if it will clash with the Ranch. How does that sound to you?

And praying for my man..Joshua. And old lady me..is trying to find tickets for Josh's performance here. And I don't usually ever go to concerts.

Carol said...

I knew the results would end like they did.

Joshua is balling like a baby about who they are losing tonight.

Carol said...

I called Dish today and they will be here tomorrow to hook me up. That was fast. I had to go get my receiver and one TV from the bedroom.

Since I have connections here in town..I knew before Josh did that he was safe.

I decided not to go to his concert. It will be far too much work to get tickets and something that only the young can deal with. I'll gladly let them have it. No long line standing for me.

Coreen said...

OK, experimenting with the new way to post...it is challenging...

Not sure how many pics I can get in one post...so if either of you have some pics of your family that you want to add, please email to me & I will see how big a family portrait I can put together....

Carol if you have some pics of your dad & Pa, & other guys in our lives, if you want maybe I can set up some of those old/new pics for father's day...

Coreen said...

Game is over, thankfully Yankees won...

Carol said...

Congrats Coreen.

I do have some pics of my dad and you've seen my best Pa pics.

Carol said...

Waiting on Jan's response to Idol results...

jan said...

So excited. I whooped when Jessica and Joshua were announced that they would be back next week.

I am with you Carol, I probably would not go to concert either. Getting too old for that kind of thing. I am so happy for Joshua though. I think there is a romance going on between Joshua and Hollie. Joshua has such a tender heart. I think I love him.

jan said...

Carol, Please keep me informed about goings on there.

jan said...

I will look for pics. I don't think I have one with my mother. Isn't that wierd? I will send one of her as a young woman. She was beautiful -to me. I will find one of my boys with me.

jan said...

Looking forward to seeing pics of you all with your moms.

Carol said...

Morning folks. It's going to be two rainy..useless days for me here. I can't complain because it has been pretty dry. But I needed some couch potato days. It's the only thing that will keep me in. My feet/legs desperately need a break. I'm bordering on needing a hoveround.

Of course..it doesn't prevent me from working on this house. I've been whittling away on it every day since I got back. There are still two of my bedrooms loaded with crap. I go in to each of them..think OMG where do I start..then turn around and exit. I'd need one of those dumpsters to take care of both of them. I don't have enough garbage space.

When roomy moved in..I stuffed everything in those two rooms. I didn't promise her a three bedroom house. It was free remember. Well..at least it is kinda concentrated.

A good bit of what's in those rooms is technology that is now obsolete. They keep developing new stuff that makes our old stuff no longer useful. We have to keep buying new stuff. It does stimulate the economy but at a price to the environment. That's kinda dumb..isn't it?

Another dumb plan was those new light bulbs. Yes..they use less electricity..but at a price for our eyesight and the environment. I have to strain to see because they don't provide enough light for old people with cataracts. They may save electricity but they are potential hazards to the environment also. They have mercury. We'll all be poisoned with mercury poisoning one day. If they break..you need to call the hasmat team. I don't think people even realize that. They'll just throw them in the garbage.

I thought that it was kinda stupid when they came out with this new TV technology. Now there are a gazillion old TVs that are no longer needed. The new ones use twice the electricity and they've created all this new garbage. Great plan that was even though I do like the improved pictures on the new one. I have two TVs here now that need a couple of men and a truck to move. And old computer stuff... those rooms are full of electronic equipment archives. You can trace the history of computers in this house. I could start a technology museum.

We have the same problem with used tech stuff. Every so often there are public service announcements about where you can take and dispose of this stuff. We are usually gone on a trip on the dates they mention

I agree about the light bulbs. I have a bunch of old bulbs and batteries that I have to find some where to dispose of too.

They didn't do much public service when they switched to those new light bulbs. I even looked on the bulb box once and found nothing about the proper care for those bulbs. That's outrageous.

Well..guess what? I'm going to the concert. The tickets were all gone within one hour of offering them. People were in line for miles but.. I just got a call from a friend from work and they got me a ticket. I did tell my secretary yesterday that I wanted to go but that is before I heard about how hard it was going to be to get a ticket. I'm certainly too old to fight.

So..I'll bring my camera and iphony. I guess they will let us take pics. Hope my endurance is up to this kind of activity. It will certainly be a test.

The satellite guy has been here for a while now and is having trouble finding a single thru all of my tall pines trees. I'm not sure if he's going to. He had to borrow a power drill and a sledge hammer from me. Now..what other woman would have those kind of things handy??

I really don't think this technician has a clue what he's doing. I've had a dish here for years and didn't have any problems and I'm sure every neighbor has a dish out here.

OMG, Carol I am so excited you are going to the concert and see Joshua in person. You have some good friends who managed to get you a ticket.

Well over 6 hours of my day wasted and still no satellite. That guy was a newbe. I have another tech coming Sunday morning. He knew that he probably couldn't point the dish in that direction because of all the tall pine trees but he kept trying.

I finally learned why. He didn't have the dish that points the other direction and if he doesn't complete the job..he makes no money..but then he worked at it for at least 4 hours and made no money. I gave him 20 bucks because I didn't feel good about his getting nothing for the job. He will learn the hard way that when he sees that kind of pine tree stand..don't bother.

I was out there acting as his personal assistant. And I got no satellite but I had already rented a Redbox movie that I had to go pick up. You can reserve them online. I wasn't that disappointed except about wasting over 6 hours.

I rented that Joyful Noise with
Dolly Parton.

Jan..I'm a little nervous about going to a concert at my age but my mental health counselor's mom and x-MIL are also going. They are my age.I hope I get to sit down..cripples don't stand too well.

We are going to work out the details of where to meet tomorrow. I will try to video it with my Iphone. Never tried that. I can do a blog post about it after the Mama's day post.

Coreen..I just got that thingy that I can scan in pics with. I was a little tied up today..as you can see. I am going to go thru some old pics tonight also to see if there is anything I can find.

Coreen..I sent you some pics. I figured out how to use that thingy again.

I just read this article from the NYT - "The Last Mother's Day" and this was in it. Hope it does not make you cry - it did me.
"When the last of your parents dies, as Christopher Buckley wrote in his memoir, “Losing Mum and Pup,” you are an orphan. But you also lose the true keeper of your memories, your triumphs, your losses. Your mother is a scrapbook for all your enthusiasms. She is the one who validates and the one who shames, and when she’s gone, you are alone in a terrible way."

Coreen said...

OK guys, I have the pics from both of you, transferred them to my pictures...
I will finish setting up a post tomorrow...

Thanks Coreen.
