What it takes for an older, slightly crippled, woman to be the man around the yard

My pics include the power equipment and regular yard tools that I have found to be sooooo useful.

Carol said...

If you had those tools..you could be a yard boy too.

Carol said...

The last pic is my new herb garden. I cleaned out most of those garlic chives..not thru yet.. and put my potted herbs in there.

I have..parley..sage..rosemary..and thyme..and..oregano..basil..chives..mint..maybe that's all.

Carol said...

Jan..sorry about your allergy attack. What do you think is the main culprit?

Carol said...

Finally got my BLT. Yummm. TW met me at Sam's. She brought maters and cucs. I just finished eating one and it was the first food I had today I did have a glass of V8 for breakfast. I just was going so much I didn't have time for food. Believe me..that won't hurt me. I'll make up for it later.

Carol said...

It's pretty much the end of the road for my yard work..not that it's all done but I'm out of time and energy. I'm whooped. I still need to mow..but it's not terrible high yet.

The next two days I'll be sitting on my butt at a jail conference. It's held at one of the casinos here. It will be interesting and I can run into the casino on my breaks and see if lady luck thinks I'm deserving. I'm not overly optimistic there.

Carol said...

If any of you are fans of Tom Selleck's..he has a new Jessie Stone mystery coming on tonight on CBS at 8CT.

Carol said...

I just made my gazpacho..it's chillin in the frig where the flavors can have sex. It's 50 shades of red.

TW..ya did good girl. Those are some excellent toms and cucs.

Carol said...

I had to reach deep for the energy to put all my toys away. I checked the pool temp t and it's 86. Perfect but I'm too spent to get in. I'd probably drown.

jan said...

Carol, all your work has made ME tired. You need a break.

You are making me hungry - home grown toms sound really good.

jan said...

I think I am allergic to everything. It is probably a combination of seasonal and food.

Carol said...

Jan..I'm glad I'm going to that conference tomorrow. It will give me a break. If I'm here..I'll find something that needs doing and my back is killing me.

Carol said...

Have you considered trying that Singulair? It's prescription.

Carol said...

If you guys have any pics to put up..please do it. I just wanted to thank all my yard tools for their help.

Carol said...

Garlic, onions, and greens...best anticancer foods.

I've been hitting those nutrition facts videos pretty hard. They are interesting. Thankfully that most of what is good for us is also things I like to eat.

Carol said...

I really got to explore dietary history when I was working as a diabetes educator since it is such an important factor in diabetes. I did find it interesting..but not surprising..that most of those who later developed type 2 diabetes..had diets of mostly meat and starches. They were also more likely to be overweight and have heart disease.

And because I sometimes had to also work without a dietitian..I had to learn how to teach the diabetes diet myself. Sometimes things that don't seem too cool at the time..where actually pretty fortunate.

Jan..from the time we took that first nutrition course in college..I've been fascinated with nutrition. Maybe it's because I love to eat. And what I also liked is that when we studied different diseases..we also learned about the diet involved. Of course..we've seen that info change over the years. Remember when they used dairy for people with ulcer disease. Now that
s a real no no.

I don't know if you guys have been following that young woman who is losing most of her extremities to that flesh eating bacteria. Boy does that story bring up some scary memories.

Jails/prisons are hot beds for MRSA. The close contact..the number of unhealthy specimens we take in..the condition they come to us in..and the fact that those specimens are immune compromised just because they are in an unhappy environment makes them particularly vulnerable to infections.

I'm also careful not to overtreat. Working in correction's medicine is one of the reasons I can do that without losing customers. My inmates come in with a pimple and want an antibiotic. If I had a nickel for everyone who said..I know my body and I know what I need...I'd be quite rich.

I only start antibiotics when I feel they are warranted. We can do watchful waiting with our captive audience. I do take the time to educate even though many don't want to hear any explanation. I tell them that we only have a certain number of antibiotics that we can use and we want to make sure they continue to be useful.

If I worked in the "free world" I'd be forced to practice bad medicine to satisfy my customers. I've seen that done sooo often. Patient's will insist that their medical practitioners do things that aren't good just to keep them coming back. Medicine is a business after all. But that practice is what has caused so many antibiotics to become resistant and people to walk around loaded with horribly resistant bacteria.

I've seen thousands of skin infections..some that scared the hell outta me. I've done a lot of praying and so far...I've been lucky. Some of those skin infections can fulminate overnight. Knock on wood..I haven't lost any body parts of peeps. I do think the prayer helped.. mucho.

When I had to deal children..in the free world..if I didn't think an antibiotic was warranted..I attempted to educate then put an antibiotic on hold at the pharmacy. I told parents to wait to see if the problem resolved..but if not..there was an antibiotic available. I told them if they decided they needed it..to make sure they completed it. You also have to worry about litigation if something bad did happen. I felt like what I did kinda worked for both problems. I also did a lot of praying. Teaching prayer needs to be included in the medical/nursing curriculum.

Coreen said...

You guys may find this mildly interesting...have to say, I only remember Pia Toscano...
although not sure if you have sworn off both Idol & Stars...
American Idol finalists, where they are now

Georgia said...

Coreen, Who are these guys? The Reds? Took 3 from your Yankees and now they are wearing out my Braves....4-1. They had back to back to back home runs on Minor ......Who let the Reds slip in?

Georgia said...

But you know Dusty Baker was with Atlanta before he went to LA....so good to see Terry Pendleton still coaching with the Braves...been with them since I can remember, played 3rd base long before Mr. Chipper Jones....also known as Larry, his given name......doesn't he look like a "Larry"..???????

Georgia said...

I'm even taping DWTS to watch the Braves, I don't get to see them much in my region....I get the Astros mostly....yuck...glad they are going to the AL.....

Coreen said...

DWTS should go to Katherine & Mark,
hands down...their free style was
fantastic, so much dance content...it was really dancing...but Donald's was almost
as good...

Coreen said...

Don't know anything about the Reds
other than they won 2 of 3 games
this weekend & that doesn't make
me happy...my team is just not hitting...

I do not follow the NL...didn't know you guys don't see Atlanta
would have thought that would be
the team shown in the south, we even get some of their games on TBS...

FYI, whenever we take a national league pitcher on our team, he 99%
of the time is awful...tonite again
is another pitching failure, so far...NL pitchers do not do well in the American league...

Carol said...

I just settled down for the first time. I did catch DWTS..recorded it and ff thru to see the dances. I think they were all a toss up. Will was the best I've seen him. Katherine was the best I've seen her and Donald was great on that last dance..the first was OK. Since I think it was a three way tie..I'm not voting. Wouldn't matter anyway.

I'm going to check out your link a little later Coreen. I'm curious about what those Idols are doing now.

I sold my pontoon boat this evening. This guy was trying to call me all day but I couldn't answer while at the conference. I called after and meet him at 6. He bought it. Now down to three boats. I need to get rid of two more..maybe just the porta bote. I'll keep the little kayak.

Before I went to the meeting..I went to hire the pressure washer fixer..50 shades of hunk..to do some work on my bass boat. I had to squeeze in another trip to WM to get a new bilge pump..they didn't have what I needed. I think I now own a share of WM

Carol said...

Just checked into the Pure DWTS site. I do think they are pros who watch the show. I really did agree with their critique of the dances last night. Their picks go Donald best..Will next and Katherine last. They kinda had a tie between Will and Katherine. I thought that Katherine actually did more dancing than usual last night. She often got by with a lot less. I'm leaning toward believing that her back spasm might have been a little act to cover a big goof last week. I didn't see any pain last night.

They HAVE all grown as dancers over the season. I still think the judges have an agenda from the get go and the voting public..overall..doesn't have a clue what talent/skill is..or voting for the worst maybe the agenda for a good many??

There's this site that I've seen over the years. It's called..VOTE FOR THE WORST. That could explain it. There are many people out there who just want to screw it up for people with talent. I guess their own patheticness( my own word) makes them want to go after those who aren't so pathetic.

I pulled this off their website..talking about Philip Philips...

"He skips the Ford commercials. He chews gum during results shows. He spends more time giving Ryan Seacrest bunny ears than practicing his performances. He never actually sings the melody. And yet, somehow, he coasted into the top 2 of American Idol season 11.

Phillip Phillips, our #wgwg5, is in the top 2 with Jessica. And Joshua is going home. The guy the judges gave a standing ovation to every week and who said should make a record now is going home. Over Phillip. Boo ya!"

They are pushing Philip to win. Kinda pathetic huh?

http://www.votefortheworst.com/

I wonder who they're supporting for president?

I read about what the previous Idols are doing. Yep..many of the winners were losers. I predict Philip will go nowhere. He might make a good late evening entertainer in some local bar.

Carol said...

If you haven't noticed..Idol is on tonight instead of tomorrow. I may still vote..as reasonable number of times..for Jessica. Like to see the best of the rest win.

Georgia said...

Sorry to Coreen, the Yankees did in fact win last Friday over the Reds 4-0. Yes, we used to get Atlanta almost every game but WTBS changed their format years ago and now just have games here televised on Sundays and it's a toss up of who you get to watch. I miss watching the Braves but this SW La. region shows the Astros all the time on Fox Sports.

Georgia said...

Coreen when you get time, can you refresh me on the pitchers batting in the AL? Isn't it a fact when they play inter-league, do the AL pitchers have to bat if they are playing at the NL home team? What about in the World Series? Doesn't it go by which home field they are playing at?

Georgia said...

Even the Red's pitcher Leake homered off Minor last night...how many times you see a pitcher hit a home run?

Georgia said...

"Who are these guys" is a line many times repeated in the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid with Paul Newman and Robert Redford......saw that in high school at the Fox Theatre on Peachtree St. in Atlanta 41 years ago......uuuuggggghhhhhhh

Carol said...

It sounds like the judges are giving Jessica the boot.

Coreen said...

Positive thoughts for the day...but you already knew this...right?!....

Coreen said...

And looks like those 50 shades is not going quietly into the night, even if some individuals

Coreen said...

As far as AL pitchers, Georgia, they do not hit, only when playing these interleague games in NL teams
homes...as far as I know that remains the same for WS....unless
there has been a change I missed...

And if I didn't mention it, I do not like the interleague games...I don't watch NL teams, don't follow
them...& prefere the AL use of the designated hitter...

My team's rivals are those in their division & in the AL...

Carol said...

Jan..I did vote again for Jessica..if it matters. She'll probably lose anyway. She's good and deserves the vote. I know you also like her so I did it for you also. You helped with me with Joshua. Check out the link that Coreen posted re: past idol contestants. It is interesting.

jan said...

Just now watching DWTS.

Watched Idol. I voted for Jessica. Thanks for voting for her Carol.

Coreen, thanks for posting the link about past Idols. There are some success stories from Idol. Now always the winner.
Katherine McPhee was #2
Adam Lambert was #2

jan said...

Carol, so you sold your pontoon.

We had a boat a few years when lived there. It was fun.

jan said...

Yes, I noticed that Phillip skipped Ford commercials. He acts like he really does not care whether he wins. Maybe that is the secret.

Carol said...

I decided to put in some calls also for Jessica. Interesting that every call went thru but I could only get about 1 in 10 calls to go thru for Joshua. Something stinks there!

Carol said...

Jan..I've just started watching DWTS. I can watch with you tonight.

Carol said...

I loved Donald's cowboy dance.

Carol said...

Sheri got a fun one...It's raining men..love it. One of my favs.

Coreen said...

Not a letdown for Donald to win, but I did like Katherine the best...add another different pro dancer to the winner's list...

Carol said...

I had to do a lot of ff to get to the end but I finally did. I was watching my recording. I did see the winner from your comment Coreen. But I don't mind knowing ahead of time. It doesn't spoil it for me. I would have been happy with either Donald or Katherine. I'm happy Will was third.

Carol said...

Well..the Pure DWTS folks are happy. They were worried that Will would take the ball home. They were never big Will fans.

jan said...

Just finished watching DWTS the finals. We were happy that Donald won. I loved watching his children watch him each night. They are so expressive.

I too think Kathryn is the better dancer. It has been a fun season.

jan said...

Coreen, I too loved the dance Shari did to "its raining men" I have not heard the song before and love it.

jan said...

I too loved Donald and Peta's cowboy dance. I think it was one of my favorite's tis season. It is real Texas. I think Donald made a lot of progress in his dancing. I loved seeing him hugging his wife.

I cannot help but wonder how the star's are affected by eroticism of the dances. Also, all of that emotion when the results each night are announced can really have an effect on people. I think there is research to support that this kind of sharing of strong emotion can lead to strong attachment. It think for the pros, it is just a job.

jan said...

Carol & Coreen, we have been watching America's got talent. Pretty fun.

Off to bed. did not sleep well last night.

Carol said...

Hey Jan...I didn't sleep well last night either. I was up emailing at 3a. Better snap outta that. Tomorrow..it's back to work. Don't know when I'll get another vacay day even though I should have 6 more years of them coming.

I didn't get to half of what I needed to do.. done and you guys know I wasn't sloughing off. That's one of the reasons I wanted to document it because I wanted everyone to know I wasn't sloughing off. If I coulda video taped myself running my fool head off.. I would have.

You know I'm also the executrix of my Pa's estate. I'm cool with having the responsibility but it's not like that's the only job I have. I was sooo behind on this place but let me tell you...living here now and still having to go to the camp to take care of it is more work than it was the other way around. Now I have two sets of birds to feed..two sets of plants to water. A pool and a more decent yard to take care of..because I got it that way. It was far easier to neglect an already neglected yard. I could walk past all the buried stuff and ignore it. Now I can see it..kinda hard to ignore now.

I need a team of "useful" spouses here..not just wonderful companions. Those..I don't have time for. Thinking about putting an ad in the paper for spousal help.I just don't need any 50 shades of gray guy..unless he's a billionaire and can hire this stuff done. I'd have to hire a large team.

And you can just imagine what goes on when someone dies...and leaves a small estate. I can already see how crappy things are going to be. And who is going to be the keeper of the crap. Yep..it's the crap sister here.

Carol said...

These last two days of just having to fit in a meeting..no stress involved there..overwhelmed my day. I didn't get to sit down until around 8 and I still was having to do work. I spend the st nights or early mornings returning emails and fretting over what I didn't get to.

One big thing I didn't get to is finishing up those dang CEUs I was behind on. You guys know that was something I did like to procrastinate on anyway. I'm running outta time. Jan..that's why I was working like such a fool on everything else that had to be done.

Anyone have any suggestions here? I'm open.

Carol said...

And Twin thought that I shoulda taken my vacay from weekend to weekend instead of starting mid week. She said it woulda felt longer. She is right about that but the universe knew what it was doing when I didn't. I didn't really do it on purpose..I planned to start my vacay when my CPA would be thru with tax season so I could bring in all the estate stuff to him.

It really did work out for the best. I can return and only have two days before another weekend. That was perfect last time. Going back is overwhelming. It's not like I can walk in and start fresh. There were many of my peeps who wanted to wait until I got back. They didn't care for my replacement's "treat them and street them" attitude. I understand his attitude because he's a surgery clinic..ER kind of guy. I'm a primary care kinda girl. And I'm the one who lives there..not just visiting. He only wanted to deal with the immediate issue..no time to get into the entire picture. I have to deal with the long term care problems.

Even my staff and some in admin would like me to adopt that treat them and street them attitude. Some don't understand that we can't do that..but they aren't the ones who are responsible..I am. But they are quick to bitch if something goes wrong.

Even at the conference..the problem with health care cuts was a prominent issue. It was bad before..now it's a nightmare. What little support there was out there for me and my patients... in the medical specialty area... is drying up. At work..I also need a team of mes. Most joints the size of mine do have more mes to do the job.

Carol said...

Even Iphony is huffing and puffing. She has long lists of what I need to do...what I need to get. She tries to remind me. Her alarms are going off right and left...get that bill paid..get the garbage out..call so and so..at least one hundred so and sos. Half the stuff I have to move to the next day's list because I ran outta daylight or day period. Just putting in all those reminders takes valuable time.

Yea..I know sitting here writing on this takes valuable time..but I do need a tad of down time..to drink my coffee and wake up. I can multitask..and I can type really fast. I did only get three hours of sleep and I do need some powerful jo in my system to get my motor started. Good thing I'm now taking some thyroid hormones now. I can't really tell the difference yet.

I've even got animals here telling me to get my ass moving. And Iphone has been ringing alarms off the wall. I wish I could get the Siri out of the phone and give her some work to do.

Some feel like I should give up my job and retire. Yeah..I give up a good paying job so I can go to work for everyone else for free..while they enjoy their retirement. Makes perfect sense to me. And it also costs money to do this work.

Carol said...

Well..enough sloughing off.

Carol said...

I called the guy who bought my pontoon boat. He told me thanks for selling that boat at such a good deal. I was worried I was asking too much. He's got three young children and it's just the right size for him. He already had it out in the water and it purred like a kitten. He's a mechanic by trade.
He's even got the lights on it working. He said..even with a 25 horse motor..it was passing up other stuff. I told him that I found the same thing with it.

I told him thanks for giving it a good home and being someone who knows how to take care of a boat. Another thank you to the Universe.

I also went to owl camp and talked with my new handy man. He also does golf carts and pool motors. My pool man won't return my calls. He might be a good vacuum and clean the pool man but that may be it. Not very ambitious.

Carol said...

Pool man did show up and fixed the pump. Changed a gasket. Knew what he was doing after all. Great. I took that off..hunk guy's list.

I've gone thru most of my list and checked most of it off. Still have to go to the title place..lost the title to the boat trailer..the one I just sold. I'll find it as soon as I get it replaced. I also still have to go to WM but that's one job I do like. I should hire on as a WM PR rep. I know just about everything they carry and how well it works. Some of their stuff is pretty impressive.

I'm all cleaned up and ready to complete my chore list.

Carol said...

Play theme song to Rocky here! I got a lot accomplished on my vacay. Couldn't ask to accomplish more..well..I could but I don't think I could have squeezed in another thing. I'll rest for the rest of the evening.

jan said...

Have a good rest Carol.

Georgia said...

Carol, that was so funny about the Idol tour at the Cajun Dome, tell everyone the ticket prices , and how many tickets are available.....

Georgia said...

It's ridiculous and no one has even sold a record yet...what are they gonna charge when they are superstars? Like I told Carol, "you have a good time". she had mentioned us maybe going to see the tour...

Georgia said...

What a tribute to Robin Gibb on Idol, top 12 male finalist singing BeeGees songs....

Carol said...

The only tickets left at the Lafayette Cajun Dome are $155 go over $2000. I don't want to go that bad. I know I would enjoy hearing a show with these Idol contestants.

Every time my Joshua sings tonight..I get choked up. He will make it big..I feel it.

Carol said...

Your typical mediocre white guy wins it all again. Idol needs to work on the voting or I'm going to stop watching that dumb show. Those kids can vote hundreds of times. It's certainly not a talent competition.

That link Coreen put up proved that most of those mediocre singers don't make it doing much of anything. Even their teeny bopper fans drop them like a hot rock after the season is over.

Carol said...

The only reason I watched the show tonight was to see some of the good ones who were voted off earlier and to see my Joshua. I do believe Joshua will make it because he is multi-talented.

I do believe that young Jessica will do something also and a few of the others who were voted off early.

Carol said...

I think some of those teeny boppers are confused about the title of that show. They think it is American Idle..go nowhere..do nothing.

Carol said...

Yeah..I'm disappointed. Actually more like..pissed off.

jan said...

Did you guys watch it till the end. Phillip had to quit singing. He was crying.

I expected it. They need to change the voting. I will keep watching because they have some great talent. Sure, not everyone goes on to be a star but look at those who have. I still think the show is a winner.

jan said...

I do think Phillip has talent and is unique.

I chose Joshua and Jessica. I think the final 12 were more talented than any previous season.

jan said...

I loved the tribute to the Bee Gees. They were one of my favorite groups of all time. I also loved seeing Neil Diamond. when the men started singing the first song he made famous, I thought OMG they are going to bring out Neil D. I love his music too.

I think it was a good "shoe"

jan said...

Sorry your vacation is over Carol.

jan said...

Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body.”

jan said...

My sister in law just put this on FB. I love it!

Carol said...

Jan..I just have to go thru my grief process. Anger is right up in front after denial. You know that. I have to do my anger time. Sorry.

It's not that I don't think Philip can sing..he's a cute enough kid but not really that extremely special. How many other kids in each of out communities are similar to Philip. I dare say many. That's JMHO.

My river rat nurse friend has him beat. He's just a little too old and has this beer guy. I guess it's too late for him for Idol or I'd tell him to sign up. He's got the white part down. Well..maybe a little sunburned.

Carol said...

And seriously..there was some glitch in the voting..at least around here..for Joshua. I had absolutely no trouble voting for Jessica. None. I couldn't get any calls to go thru for Joshua. They talked about it on the news here several times. Everyone had the same problem. Our local TV contacted Idol. I think the entire Idol system is set up for screw ups.

I may not like the results for DWTS but their voting is a much better system. Idol is doing something to make some money from ATT. They have some agenda.

Carol said...

It was a neat show last night anyway. I should have just turned it off just before the end.

I loved seeing the other singers. I thought it was interesting to see Skylar singing with Reba. I love Reba and when I heard Skylar sing..she reminded me so much of Reba. I told TW that. Then she comes out last night with Reba. Cool. I'll predict that little Skylar will make it to the big time also.

Carol said...

It is interesting who makes it to the top in some of these things..and in life. It isn't outstanding talent of skills but it's something. It might be fate or karma or something. I'll never figure it out.

Carol said...

I wanted a bird feeder here but Fiddler tries to rule the roost here. I put the feeder off on a side of the yard where I don't see the cats go as often. I made sure the birds have good sighting to see any cats coming.

I tried fussing at Fiddler when she goes that way..I even got the hose after her. She even drinks out of the bird bath I set up for the birds and she has plenty of her own water. She's just being a hog.

Yesterday at WM..I bought one of those mega water blaster guns that kids play with. Ya fill it up..pump it up with air and can shoot water 40 feet. Now I'm going all Ninja on Fiddler if she goes in the bird yard area. It's kinda a fun game for me too.

jan said...

Carol, that is so interesting about your voting issues there. Of course you need to process your grief. I do that too when something troubles me deeply. I have come to expect a cute white guy to win Idol so guess I don't experience the anger or grief there.

I think Phillip is ill and has a rough time ahead of him because of that. He may have been getting some pity votes because of this illness.

Well, let's remember all this in the next few years and keep track of all of these last contestants to see how they do.

jan said...

We have been having staff issues at work. Nothing that directly affects me in a negative way. I still love working with the families. I am signing on for another year in what I am dong now. Yesterday was a stressful day in that my boss (director) was having difficulty over a former staff member and her daughter who wants to place her baby in one of our child care centers. I was there about 8 hours yesterday and 9 hours the day before and in addition I have students. So last 2 days have been tough and have not had time to walk (for exercise) so having difficulty sleeping. I go to sleep ok but wake up at 1 or 2 am and could not get back to sleep. I got up, had a cup of tea and went back to bed around 4 am, slept until 7:30 so am getting enough sleep over all.

jan said...

Am taking today off. I have appt with PCP this morning and GYN this afternoon. I did walk this morning so I think will be better tonight. I will try and get some more exercise later.

jan said...

Well, most of the shows I watch have ended for the season and I am glad. They were all wearing me out.

Carol said...

Yesterday was quite interesting and busy. Was it my first day back to work or my first week? I think it was more than one day.

I had this hope that my vacay relief guy.. coming a couple of days a week.. would change things. Don't ask me how or why I thought that was possible.

I got three phone calls when I left for lunch..I know they didn't do that to my relief every time he left.

Recently..I've really tried to change how I'll let others overuse me. I'm here to say that I don't think it's possible without terminating a relationship. Once you've allowed it for years..it's set in stone.

Carol said...

One neat thing..but an extra chore in an already chore laden day..was..I got some really nice..fresh shrimp. I told TW that if she heard of some good shrimp around to let me know.

I saw a call with a voicemail on my phone. It's not usual for TW to call or leave a voicemail when I'm at work so I knew it had to be something important. I listened to the voicemail and she said she hoped I would because she got a call from her source that some great shrimp was available. She was going to get some and wanted to know if I wanted some also.

She has a friend of an old friend who owns a shrimp wholesale business down close to the Gulf. I know the guy also since I used to go get some bait shrimp there when I hung out at another friend's camp down that way.

She had just called a couple of days earlier looking for some inland shrimp. He said they were getting nada. Then he calls yesterday and they were getting some great stuff. They just caught this stuff yesterday at 4 am..really fresh.

I told TW to put my name in the pot..I wanted 15 lbs. Yep..I was thinking about when I would squeeze in heading and putting them up. If I ran real fast with all my other chores..I might be able to swing it. I started putting that plan into action at lunch and slammed my truck door so fast I didn't have time to move my knee cap outta the way. Can you imagine the pain???? I thought that I might lose consciousness. I have some bony knee caps and they are already sensitive. Well..that accentuated my limp racing.

It actually added many more chores to my list. I had to make a trip to go 20 miles down the road to pick them up..go to the store for some freezer containers..and three other stores to find some powered shrimp boil cuz I also wanted to cook some.

I managed to do it all but didn't sit down until very late. When I was cleaning my shrimp..I smelled them and checked out their little eyes. Ya know they were saying that the oil spill in the Gulf caused some seafood deformities..one of which was eye deformities. My shrimp were beautiful...smelled perfect..very large..average of 20 to a pound and had two nice looking eyes. I headed and put up 9 containers of shrimp. Well..I ate most of one container with some left over for tonight. I boiled them..my favorite way to eat them.

I had to put some here in the freezer and bring some out to the camp but I had to go there anyway to do my chores there.

TGIF! And that it's a long weekend. I met hunk guy when I went to the camp yesterday morning to water. He was going to get started on my boat.

Just heard on the news that they have this Taste of La festival this weekend. Good food!

Sorry about your knee Carol.

But shrimp sounds good.

Your last posts sound like the beginning of a well known book "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."

Hope that knee heals.

As to your earlier post. Patterns develop in relationships that are near to impossible to change.

Carol, where is that festival? There is a sailboat regatta in Lake Arthur this weekend as well as the Sulphur Heritage festival, those 2 bands are playing. Friday night is The Little River Band and Saturday night is The Atlanta Rhythm Section, thats a great band. They both don't start until 8pm both nights.

Oh and "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" FINALLY is in LC at the mall movie place....Maybe Sunday or Monday we could go......Didn't you say Gloria saw it and liked it? Of course that doesn't mean we will like it but rotten tomatoes gave it great reviews I think you told me......

Georgia said...

Wow, glad the trash ran roday, 20 lbs. of shrimp heads had a really bad smell going on out by the curb....Clorox to the rescue...!!!!

Georgia said...

Man weren't those the most beautiful shrimp you ever saw? I was very impressed.

Georgia said...

$3.50 a lb. isn't bad either....

Oh and the tomato plants that the wind blew over yesterday seem to be ok....no wilting anywhere so far. I watered good early this morning in jeans and a long sleeve shirt, that south wind yesterday must have blown every marsh mosquito from the gulf to my backyard...!!!!!!!

You need to hurry up and retire...I need someone to play with this summer......

I rented "My week with Marilyn" tonight. I liked it.

Well..I fell asleep on the couch tonight and just woke up. I guess I might be up for the day but...I don't have to go to work so I can take a nap if I need one.

I stepped out on my back porch to look at the little solar lights I put out around the pool and the birds are already singing. That's not the first time I heard that at this hour. They must get up very early also. Maybe birdie insomnia.

Those solar lights are something else I got on sale at WM. If you catch it right..at the end of the summer..just before they start putting out the holiday junk..they put the outdoor stuff on sale to get rid of it. I got those solar lights for less than half price.

They had these smaller red, white and blue lights..a 4th of July model. The lights are white but the little stems are done up like a flag. They cast a lighted display on the ground that looks like the spiked crown on the statue of liberty. Pretty cool. 50 cents a piece..on sale. Love it. Love to get junk on sale..even if I don't need it.

Yep..TW..there's a lot going on this weekend around these parts. I guess everyone wanted to do their thing on Memorial Day weekend. Too bad they couldn't spread it out so there would be more to do over a longer period of time. Now they will have to compete for attendees.

That Taste of Louisiana sounds good. I love to eat our La food. The music at the festival in your town TW sounds really good but it doesn't start until close to your bedtime..old lady. Place smiley face here.

And I do want to see that movie you mentioned.

Just heard a report on the local news and then looked it up online. It's about the dangers of taking the Z-pak antibiotic. They did a long study.."The study is published in the May 17, 2012 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine."

There is a small increase in the risk for sudden cardiac death in people with baseline cardiac disease taking this antibiotic.

I don't care for prescribing this antibiotic because of the growing resistance of some bacteria to the drug. It was sooo popular when it came out because it was sooo easy to take. Only had to take it for 5 days and then only once a day. And because it was sooo prescribed..and people didn't take it right..it lost some of it's effectiveness. It's patients who screw up antibiotics by not taking them like they should. And practitioners who screw up by not educating their patients in how important that is. And it only takes a minute or two to do it.

Jan..I rented that Marilyn movie a while back but didn't get around to watching it. I do that often. I'll try again some day.

Unofficial start of summer is starting out overcast & humid here...it has been dreary all week
with that southerly airflow...

Not at all like last weekend when it was just beautiful...

In any event, hope everyone has a relaxing Memorial Day weekend...

Time to do a little work....

jan said...

Thanks for that info on the Z pack. The last time I had a bad bronchitis the doc prescribed something else.

jan said...

Coreen, hope your weather improves. On the other hand, I would love an overcast day. I get tired of so much sunshine - day after day. The only way we will get an overcast day, however, is if the smoke from some wildfires come this way. YUK!

jan said...

Georgia, I want to see that "...Marigold ..." movie.

jan said...

Georgia, i cannot get John out after 7 pm- unless it is a quick trip to the grocery store.

jan said...

I read something the other day that you should not use any cake or pancake mix after the expiration date as they develop spores and can cause anaphyaxis. I am going through cabinets today and throwing away all with expired dates.

Jan.....GO SEE THAT MOVIE..!!!! Carol and I saw it today, just an absolute chuckle after chuckle about getting old and dealing with it, only they are all in India. Carol and I loved it. It's really good.

Carol and I had a really really good day today. Friends are priceless........

We went shopping for a couple of recliners today. We are getting rid of our sofa. It is very old and takes up so much room. We went to Laz y Boy. We looked at the electric ones but found 2 we like better that are operated by hand. Why do we need a sofa anyway? No one ever sits in that middle part anyway. I like the idea of all chairs in "pods."

jan said...

The only problem is our son's little dog likes sitting on the back of the sofa and looking out the window. I hope she will be able to perch on the back of one of these chairs.

Hmmm - John really wants to see " Dark shadows" so we will see it first. I do want to see "marigold hotel.

Morning folks. Yesterday was a fun outing. I'd say that qualified as a vacay day even though it was just a day of a long weekend.

First I went to get some pieces of pottery I saw on Facebook. It was brightly colored yard stuff that came from Mexico. I saw this dragonfly and had to have it. When I went to buy it..there was also this alligator I also had to have.

Then I met TW at the Taste of La. That was a bust. I insisted we check it out. Wasn't what we were expecting. The food was more what you would find at any festival and it was way too hot out there to hang out. Thank God we are both heat intolerant. We left and went to a Mexican restaurant for lunch. Then we moved our movie day up and saw the Marigold movie. I really liked it. They could have sped up that movie just a tad.

That leaves today for catch up on all my chores..which includes mowing two places.

jan said...

Carol, good you and Georgia had a fun day yesterday. Those one day vacays are good for us. We had a very windy afternoon and evening - gusts at 50-60 miles an hour, blew down a big limb off our front yard tree. Within the next couple of years may have to take that tree out. A shame.

Don't know if we will make it to church. Sitting out on our porch enjoying watching all the birds including a little hummer.
