Time for a new post...so here's
some of the girls hanging around....

Carol said...

You know I love it Coreen! Finally, I get some close ups of the girls. Their soooo cute!

Ember the black lab lives with one of my friend's daughter, Diane in Long Island...Ember is still a pup
about 6 months old...

Diamond is a Jack Russell, & she
is 14...She lives with my friend
Charlotte(Diane's Mom) in Florida, Islamorada...That is Charlotte holding her..Char was in NY for
Christmas & they drove to CT...

While they were here we had to leave the 2 dogs on the back porch...All the cats disappeared, but to my surprise after the dogs
left (& yes they were barking at the door for a bit)they came down
& were not as traumatized as I thought they might be...

Almost time for your Saints game
Carol...think they are about 3 point favs...I'll be rooting for
your guys...

Carol said...

I'm ready for some football. Nervous....Are you watching?

I'm planning on watching all the playoffs.

Coreen said...

And I read Buddy's thoughts...

I don't disagree with him, & honestly I think he is much more in line with most of the Repubs than I would have thought...but he a republican so that should not
surprise me...

Carol said...

One thing, among many, that I don't like about this format is that I can't see the pics when I'm writing. I did open a new tab so I can pop back and forth. Hope they find a fix.

Coreen said...

Almost forgot, the generator is
scheduled for the end of January,
but they have not called to tell me a firm date yet...

So far not a bit of snow...I am hoping that we don't have snow before they come to install it...

The propane gas tank has been buried & it has 400+ gal. in it...
An electrician has to wire the gen
into the basement at it's own
panel...The gen company provides all that...

Once that is completed, the gen
will auto. cycle once a week (or every 2 weeks, not sure which)as a test to be sure it is working...

I have some pics of the propane gast tank, once the gen is installed, I'll show you what it
looks like complete, if you are interested...

They have already taken out two of our better players..Graham and Thomas. There should have been a penalty on that helmet to helmet hit on Thomas.

Carol said...

I don't have Fox on the satelitte so I can't pause and rewind. Rats! I have to watch on antenna. Dang..Dish Network.

Carol said...

Not looking very good. Shake it off boys! Maybe we need a little Tebow action.

Coreen said...

Take some deep breaths...

Such an unlikely turn of events...never would have expected
that....

Coreen said...

Ouch...they have been playing real
sloppy, need to calm down...3 turnovers so unlike them...

Carol said...

This is rediculous. They are rattled.

Carol said...

They turn into another team when they are on the road. What gives?

Coreen said...

much better...

Carol said...

Not yet Coreen.

Carol said...

I hope they can make some adjustments at half time. They do often need to.

Carol said...

49ers do have the number one defense..don't they?

Carol said...

Is there some reason why our guys can't hold on to that ball with both hands. They might as well set in on a tray and serve it to them.

Carol said...

I've been talking with Att for a half hour.. trying to find out why my text service doesn't work on this new Iphone. I've certainly had bad luck with these new dumb phones.

Carol said...

It actually helps to have a distraction. Can't take the stress.

Carol said...

Well..I just lost my Att man. I hope he calls me back.

Carol said...

That was a 41 y/o field goal kicker!

Carol said...

That 49ers defense is good.

Carol said...

i'm crip pacing

Coreen said...

Yes!!!#

Carol said...

Why can't we do that?

Carol said...

That's it for me for football this year!

Carol said...

This is what they call a Cajun stress test.

Coreen said...

Do you believe!!!!

Coreen said...

Can you stand it!!!

Coreen said...

Now it is really crunch time...

Coreen said...

Are you still breathing!!!

Carol said...

My hands are shaking so bad I can't type

Carol said...

jfoajentr'ea

Coreen said...

Oh Carol, I am so sorry...

Carol said...

Can't win with 5 turn overs. They just can't play on the road.

Carol said...

I guess I'll go dig into the Moo-llenium ice cream I bought today. It might just finish off what that game left of my heart.

Carol said...

Well..after that loss I decided to go out for the evening. I saw that the Broncos were losing and I wanted them to win also. Now there's no team I care about left. I'm not much for football if I don't care for the team.

Even though I was very disappointed..I wasn't surprised that we lost. I knew the 49s were good and we aren't that good when playing away from home. Remember..we lost to the Rams on the road. We might have been the only team that the Rams beat.

I was surprised that we kept the score so close after 5 turnovers.

Carol said...

Coreen..I take it that dark cat upstairs is Kit Kit. Don't you have one cat that doesn't get along with one of the other cats? Is it Kit Kit?

Coreen said...

You have a great memory Carol...
KitKit & Fluff so far can't be together...I wish I had a 'cat whisperer'...

Hey, this a.m. it was 12...but still no snow....yeah....

Are you having a long weekend off for MLK day....

jan said...

So sorry Carol about the Saints losing. We watched part of game. We went to store toward the last -got home just as Saint made the big touchdown with 2 min plus to go and were jumping around - then SF made the TD. A sad time. Hope you are surviving this.

jan said...

Coreen, the pictures are great. Beautiful little feline friends you have.

jan said...

So glad you will be getting you generator soon Coreen.

Carol said...

Coreen..I'm glad to know something is working..my memory that is. Sometimes with people..it's not a bad memory as much as it is that people just don't pay attention.

And yes..I do have MLK day off.

Carol said...

The other night..the old quote..credited to Edmund Burke went thru my head. I didn't know who was suppose to have said it. It's "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing" And actually he didn't say that..he said "When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle." I can see why someone changed it.

While researching that quote I came accross Burke on Wiki. I was very impressed with many things he said and he is considered the father of modern conservatism. Hey..I knew I was once a conservative. It was in a previous life.

Today conservatism=greed bastards. But so does liberal. With the influence of special interests/big money on politics..they have no choice.

Carol said...

In life I have found that a few people are willing to go out and try to fight for the good of the many. Everyone gets to benefit from that fight and those who did/do the fighting are often looked at as a pain in the ass.

Carol quote

Carol said...

And Coreen..Roemer is way left of both the Repubs and Obama..IMO. Ya have to really look at what he says about the issues.

If he could get his message out.. the young people would be very excited..so would others who are hurting from the current state of affairs in this country.

Actually..at certain points in time..Romney was way left of Obama. The problem is..he denies it. If you listen to some of those SuperPac attack ads about Romney..you would think..I like that man.

And the single most important problem that will keep this country from ever..ever..fixing what's wrong is the big money from special interests. Those who have the gold make the rules.

Carol said...

Jan..I'm getting over the Saint's loss. I was less surprised than the sport's guys who all thought they would win. They don't play well away from home and they are very inconsistant. I was actually more surprised about LSU.

Tell your boys..sorry about the Broncos loss. I was pulling for the Tebow. If I could have gotten down on one knew last night..I might have tried it.

Carol said...

Here's Roemer's stand on the issues:

Roemer's Stand on the Issues

I know he can't win..but I would like him to get his ideas into the national discussion. They seem very logical and fair.

His is totally a grassroots campaign and that is why I am trying to help. And all the powers that be are using Roundup on that grass.

Many of his grassroot supporters are Independents and Democrats..some who say they were never before interested in politics and have never contributed to a political campaign before. I was in that same place prior to 2000. Then something told me to be very afraid.

jan said...

If you have not read the Great Scot's posting today, you have to read it. It is one of the funniest stories I have ever read. It is long or I would copy it and put it in a comment. Anyone who likes animals will enjoy it.

jan said...

Carol, I will tell Bill and Terry of your sympathy for the Broncos. They are Saints fans too. We are going to great granddaughters 2nd b'day party at Terry's in a short while. GDD's dad is a 49'rs fan. We won't talk about the game today.

Coreen said...

With all due respect & not wanting
to get you riled up Carol...But...I see
nothing in Buddy's stands on issues that leads me to believe Buddy is left of the rest of the repubs or obama for sure...

The only issue that sets him apart is his desire to get money out of politics, how he would/could ever
achieve that is well lalaland...Never going to happen in our lifetimes...that is the nature of the beast...

As far as almost all of the issues you linked to...he's a Republican
and that is not necessarily a bad
thing...

His views are very similar to & in some instances the same as Romney
& close to Gingrich...and even the other repubs as well, except maybe Paul...who is out there on his own limb...

Carol said...

I don't agree Coreen. Maybe a couple of words the same but not how they want to or have gone about dealing with these issues so far.

Just to mention a couple..His ideas on fair trade seems very different to me. Repubs would definitely not be cool with them.

"As president, any policy Buddy Roemer considers will first be evaluated through the lens of the impact it could have on American jobs created or lost."

"•Buddy Roemer wants to restore pride in the "Made in America" label, so that consumers have the choice of buying products that help employ their neighbors.

•Part of the plan to restore jobs in the American industrial sector is the idea that trade must be fair first, rather than free, and that in order to address America's massive trade deficit we must correct for advantages other producing nations gain by avoiding America’s health, safety and environmental standards.

•Buddy Roemer would encourage American businesses to buy American, even if it costs a little more, through tax amendments and incentives."

If that is any of their ideas it must be a closely held secret. I think the Repubs would call Buddy's ideas isolationism.

Carol said...

As far as healthcare..Buddy agrees that the new plan includes some good ideas but none of them wanted to fight the insurance or pharmaceutical cos with healthcare reform. They all get too much money from them. Most important thing is that he wouldn't be beholding to the pharmaceutical or insurance cos.

He said he would have patients..doctors and nurses writing that plan. I'm not sure I would give too much power to doctors either.

So often the meds prescribed by docs are what the rep.. who brings them good stuff sell.. when there are other options that are just as good..safer..and much cheaper.

And you should see the expensive drugs we are paying for for Medicaid patients. I couldn't even afford to take them nor would I want to. There should be a formulary with good..safe..efficacious drugs that are reasonably priced. Pharm cos prevented that with all their lobbying to our lawmakers.

My Medicaid inmates come in taking the top of the line..hot off the press..expensive as hell meds. We are paying for them and I wouldn't even pay to take them myself. Some cost $13/pill. There are cheaper..just as effective meds available.

I have a formulary I use at work which include good meds in all the necessary classes. We go to the high dollar stuff when that's required.

Medicaid is available to those with nothing but people with low incomes are shit out of luck.

Obamacare really doesn't help many of the people who need help especially those who have recently lost jobs or recently became disabled. I see that with my own eyes. Yep..it helps people with kids going to college..but those with preexisting conditions..hang it up. You can get it but who can afford it. You would have to have one of those rich politician's money to afford that insurance.

Now what is it that the Repubs want?? Just leave it alone..is that their plan??

If I'm wrong..you can edjecate me.

Carol said...

That's the reason I want Buddy in the debates..if he's the same..we could all hear that for ourselves.

And..I do think that someday..when Americans finally gets fed up with what's happening..this unholy..illegal..influence of money on politics will have some limitations. The concept is becoming more and more popular but not if those who have the gold continue to make the rules.

"Buddy Roemer is committed to fighting the corrupting influences in Wall Street and Washington, ending favors to big donors and the misuse of federal funds to benefit major corporations that take jobs overseas while they evade taxes in America. Campaign finance reform and ending unlimited Super PAC campaign contributions made possible by Citizen's United ruling are critical to battling this problem."

On his site he lists how to accomplish some of this.

All of the current candidates are benefitting from the current corruption of money. What's amusing is that those SuperPacs..that they all have.. are now biting many of them in the ass.

Coreen said...

I would agree 1000% with the 'made in america' label...

When I read his view on creating jobs...nothing says what can
be done to create jobs...

I have no problem with tariffs
for goods coming here...if that is what his statements mean...

his statement 'to restore pride in the made in america label
so that 'consumers' have the choice of buying products that help employ their neighbors...sounds fantastic, but
there is nothing to suggest how
he is going to get those 'consumers' to have 'pride' in american goods, & to stop buying the cheaper goods...think
walmart...and my pet peeve, cars...

a huge pet peeve of mine has always been that too many americans have put the japanese
car makers ahead of good old usa cars for years...I have always despised the comments they make that 'oh, they make a much better car...in short plain bs...I never bought it, still don't...

Back to Buddy & trade...the devil is in the detail....define 'fair'
trade what does that mean..

and his statement that says 'in order to address america's massive trade deficit we must correct for advantages other producing nations gain by avoiding our health, safety & environmental standards...tell me how....

He may have addressed this elsewhere, in particular as to China...for some reason I think I read something that he said that suggested to me he sounded like a poor man's Trump, who always rails against the impact of China...may have said that to you when you started mentioning Buddy...

I beleive that Romney has said that he would get tough with China with targeted tariffs
(whatever that means) &/or economic sanctions for unfair
trade practices & he also has
mentioned China's currency manipulation, again I think taking a page from Donald Trump who has
repeatedly talked about having to get tough with China on these issues....

Carol said...

Are you cold enough yet Coreen? Tomorrow..it's suppose to be 74 here and 76 Tuesday. We have had some cold nights..in the 20s but it goes up and down.

Today..I fired up the lawnmower and cut the grass here. I think that may be a first for January.

Coreen said...

every repub. candidate says they would get congress to repeal 'obamacare'...including Buddy...

Also think that it has always been a repub. idea to allow the purchase of insurance across state lines & I sure know they have always wanted to curtail lawsuits, as does Buddy...all as measures to reign in costs...

Buddy like the other republicans is committed to a free market, competitive approach to provide health insurance...

I don't see Buddy as
being other than a Republican, (and that is not to say that is a bad thing) they all tweak their messaging, but the essence is still basically a
Republican view of how to address issues....

The reality is that the so-called
health care reform knonwn as obamacare did nothing to solve what was the big complaint...

most people objection was to the constant and huge increases in premiums & costs of services...trust me I know 1st hand...most were never dissatisfied with the quality of their care under their policies, but wanted someone to stop the rise
in premiums...

But that is not what was done...anyone who pays premiums knows that the costs keep going up...

Carol said...

Anyone going to watch the Golden Globes to hear what Ricky G says about everyone? He even made me uncomfortable last time.

Coreen said...

Try these issues to see the similarities...

Immigration...Buddy wants to seal the border, enforce existing laws, illegals must return to where they came from & then apply for entry through legal channels...

Romney wants to increase border security & give no amnesty to illegals too...

Seems both Gingrich & Perry are the more accepting of allowing illegals to stay with no penalties....though they too
say they want more border security...

On taxes....Buddy is a supporter of a flat tax...So is Perry & Gingrich offers a choice of a flat
tax plan or choosing the current
tax plan..

Social Security & Medicare...Buddy
wants to increase the retirement
age, not sure how else he wants to reign in those benefits costs...

Romney offers increasing the age
requirement for ss too, & changing the way inflation is calculated & reconsidering benefits for the wealthy...but doesn't propose raising the medicare age, rather mitt would leave medi. as it is for current recipients, but set up some voucher system for younger workers when they reach medi age to buy private ins w/subsidies or
choose the traditional medicare....

Energy independence...the Republican candidates are all for expanding domestic oil & gas production, decreasing the degree of regulations & both Buddy & Mitt
want to expand the use of nuclear energy...

I simply don't see Buddy as being
left of the Repubs &/or Obama on
the various issues...

Coreen said...

No Carol, not interested in that peabrain....

Watching the NYGiants...who are
ahead 30 to 13 over the packers....
with 6 minutes left to go...

Needless to say that has been the
only sports talk up here all week...

And yes, I want the giants to win, though I am first a Jets fan...after all they are a NY team...

Coreen said...

Now it is 30 to 20 NYG ahead, with
4:46 left to go...

Green Bay just tried an onside kick...it failed & the Giants are at midfield...they need to score
again & use up time....

Coreen said...

Carol, I don't have any preference at this point as to the 2012 election...I have no interest in
Obama as President, I think he is a failure...I could not vote for
most of the Repubs, but Romney
is worth considering in my view...

Just responding to your view of Buddy as some how basically different from other Republicans...

And it is 19, but should warm up
into the 30s tomorrow, sunny, still no snow....

And the Giants just scored a TD

Now 37 to 20 with 2:36 to go...

Now this will be a great win for New York fans...Thre will be a lot
of gloating on sports radio overnight & tomorrow...

This is a repeat of what the Giants did in 2007 & then they won it all.....

Carol said...

to.."correct for advantages other producing nations gain by avoiding our health, safety & environmental standards...tell me how...."

is only accomplished by getting the jobs back here. Make is less advantageous to send them overseas.. give the tax breaks for keeping them or bringing them home. That will also decrease our carbon footprint.

And Coreen..it seems to me..from the negative stuff the other Repubs say..that Romney had some good ideas and did some good things as governor but he either changed his mind or now denies it.

In some ways..Romney has been left of Obama..in the past. I wish they would just tell us what they believe and what they want to do instead of trying to follow any party line.

If it we up to me..I'd get rid of political parties. We judge each by what we think of the party they belong to. I have a hard time telling the difference between the GWB admin and Obama admin. Too bad people vote a party instead of the candidate.

It's been my experience that much of that cheap crap made in China either doesn't work or doesn't work for long. They should call it disposable.

And I agree that Trump had some good ideas. When he talked..I listened. I don't think he was serious about running for pres but at least he did have an opportunity to be heard.

Carol said...

There are things I like about the flat tax idea. Here's Buddy's suggestions:

Tax Reform

"Special interests have also taken their toll on the tax code, which is unfair, unreadable, written by lobbyists, and crammed with the loopholes.
•Buddy Roemer’s plan would set the size of federal government to about 18 to 18.5 percent of GDP – currently it is at about 25.5 percent.
•Income taxes would be simplified to a flat tax, with an individual exemption of $50,000. A flat tax of 17 percent would be paid on all income beyond that. This means that individuals making $50,000 or less would pay no income tax, while those making more than $100,000 would have an effective tax rate of 8.5 percent.
•Elimination of the Alternative Minimum Tax, the Earned Income Credit and most deductions would be key to this plan, to simplify and standardize complicated tax laws.
•Unlike other plans that have been put forward, this plan would have no national sales tax, which would have devastating effects on the economy, particularly for the poorest Americans who spend a higher percentage of their income.
•As president, Buddy Roemer will work to close all tax loopholes for corporations and ensure that the tax system is fair for everyone in it."

Don't think many Repubs would be interested in closing those tax loopholes. I think the 99% would like his ideas.

With this plan..that inmate wouldn't be able to file for a tax return unless he claimed to make over 50 thou.

Carol said...

My true sport's fan friend caught me up on the games today. I couldn't watch. I'm glad that New York is winning. Have they finished yet and who do they play next if they did.

Carol said...

With that tax plan..I just bet we'd bring in a whole lot more revenue.

Taxes are way too complicated even the experts usually get it wrong..according to the Money Magazine study done for several years. Don't know if they still do it or if the magazine still exists.

Too many people making up their tax deductions. I heard someone talking about their mother writing off a herd of cattle she didn't own. And Timmy couldn't write off his kid's summer camp.

Too many tax loopholes.

And it ain't the 9-9-9 plan.

I haven't read about anyone who's plan sounds this good but you can send me a link.

Coreen said...

Giants will be playing the San Francisco Carol...

And late breaking, looks like
Huntsman is getting out & reportedly to endorse Romney tomorrow...which makes sense since
their views are not that far apart...

Interesting to see what all those dems/libs, talking heads, who were championing huntsman as the only acceptable reasonable, sane, repub. yada, yada....who they would even consider will respond with his endorsing romney...

Carol said...

Ya know Coreen..the Saints playing the 49ers in preseason was the game I went to in New Orleans last year. It was the only pro game I've ever been to. We beat um soundly back then..seem to remember something like 24-3..at home..in the dome. Of course they had time to practice since then.

And the Saints do well playing in front of their peps. Their peps inspire them to greatness.

Carol said...

I would have liked to have watched that Giants/Packers game but it was too soon. The wounds were too fresh.

Carol said...

Like I said..if ya could pick from the multiple choice of options that Mitt has said or done over the years..there's something for everyone.

I enjoyed watching the Golden Globes last night. There wasn't anything else on.

Ricky was pretty tame last night.

My fav..Modern Family..won another award. It's nice to know that occasionally I like something that others like.

enjoyed Golden Globes last night. I too was glad Modern Family won. The only movies we have seen that were up for anything were Midnight in Paris (we saw at my sister's house a month ago) and War Horse. I loved Midnight... It was classic Woody. I want to see The Descendents and Artist. We don't get any of cable stations that have the shows that won. I do recommend Midnight...
John picked War Horse to see.

Jan..I've done the repeat post also. If you hit publish twice..because you can't tell if it went thru the first time..it will post twice. Sometimes.

One of the advantages of this new format..besides letting Coreen and I in right now.. is that if you hit refresh before you post your comment it will come up with a warning..do you want to leave this page. I have hit refresh instead of post comment before and lost my comment.

I've been up on the roof trying to find my leak. That part of the roof is in pretty bad shape but can't really tell where the water is getting in. It's suppose to rain tomorrow.

First I had to find something to use so I hit Lowes and Home Depot. The roofing products were at the total opposite end of both stores from where I went in.

I still can't put any weight on the ball of my foot so I walk like I'm in a cast. It's slow and tiring.

I wanted that stuff you see on TV called Flex Seal but neither place had it. I had to get this roofing patch. It's like tar and both my hands were black after. I'm not even sure if I did any good.

I talked with a friend later who saw that Flex Seal at another store..the one way across town. I went and got it also. Let me tell you..it's never the same as what you see on TV. It was $12 a can..didn't go far..and stopped spraying before it was empty. Thumbs down on that product.

Don't worry about me killing myself..that part of the roof is flat and I can get up there from one of my decks with a little step ladder. I also call a friend to tell her if she doesn't hear back from me in an hour..send help.

jan said...

Carol, be careful upon your roof. Products are never like they say on TV.

I got up all ready to go to work today. I did not think we were off on MLK day. Before I grabbed my stuff to go off and see some little kids in our child care centers I called the office - the taped message came on. Called the child care center I was going to visit. Another taped message. I was soooo happy. fixed myself another cup of tea and had a seat. I have gotten literally nothing done and its been good.

Watching the Betty White 90th B'day special. Great to see an older woman being celebrated.

jan said...

Dammit, it did it again.

Carol said...

Developing a little tremor Jan?

I also watched Betty White..it was cute. Fun to see some of the peps from the old sitcoms I used to watch years ago.

Carol said...

I then watched Rock Center where they talked about the SuperPacs. Said they were around to stay for a while. Difficult to get rid of them.

I think there will be many who will be sorry about that.. even those using them. What a waste of good money. Just think of the good that could be done with all that money used to support evil.

Most people don't really understand those SuperPacs..I only learned about the rules for them..as ridiculous as they are..from watching Colbert. His audience is probably the most educated on the subject. He really does a wonderful public service.

Carol said...

Watching and reading the news these days..I often think...this is crazier/more bizarre than my weirdest dreams. Maybe I am dreaming.

jan said...

I agree Carol, Colbert and Jon Stewart are my favorite sources for the news. I am sick of the debates.

Carol said...

Today..when I signed in..I had to match those crooked letters. I didn't change that in the format so I wonder why that happened. I hate doing that and hope we don't have to do that when we comment.

Carol said...

Jan..both Stewart and Colbert educate in a humorous and less intimidating way. And watching does require a certain degree of intelligence and being current with what's going on in the world. People who I know who aren't either..don't like or understand those two guys.

Also Repubs don't much care of them.

Some may say that the guys are making a joke out of politics/the political process. Unfortunately..politics are a joke..they just point it out. Hopefully..they may be able to affect some change.

Roemer says the same things that the boys are saying but he can't get his voice heard.. except by peons like me who try to spread his word.

Carol said...

Did you know that Wikipedia..one of my favs..is having a blackout tomorrow to protest SOPA. I didn't even really know much about SOPA until I read something a while back on Roemer's site.

Carol said...

I came home for lunch to see if my roof patches held. So far..so good but I'm really not sure how hard it rained. I'll just have to wait and see.

Craig put up a short..but sweet..video of Elizabeth Warren. Need to check it out.

Elizabeth Warren Unplugged

I think it might have been Colbert who first introduced me to her a year or two ago. He does often have some amazing guests on his show.

She's one of my heros and the woman who set up that new consumer protection agency and also the one who Obama wouldn't fight to head the agency..big wuss.

I was so disappointed but then I thought... maybe God has bigger and better plans for her. Hope so. God's probably our only hope.

Elizabeth is now running for the Senate. She could do alot to class up that place.

Carol said...

Just read that Google is joining the protest against SOPA. That might mean the Swamp also goes dark tomorrow. If so...nite nite Casie..Fluffy and Kit Kit.

Carol said...

Scary...Newt got big cheers last night when he justified his comment about letting the children, I think it was black children he first mentioned, work as janitors at school so they can learn how to make money.

I guess knocking that janitor out of a job will save on education expenses and I'm sure you don't have to pay those kids as much to do the work. I assume they would do it at recess???

Rachel M. said that Google wouldn't be going down. Maybe it won't be lights out for us.

Hope I don't have a pressing question for Wiki tomorrow.

I guess y'all heard that Paula Deen has type 2 diabetes. That's what can happen when you eat all those yummy foods she prepares on her show...unfortunately.

And now she's also a spokesperson for some Pharm co that makes a medication to treat DM. Don't know which one yet. I guess it is a win win situation. Only problem is that the meds won't work without including a diet plan. Will she change that?

I'll bet she also has Metobolic syndrome...truncal obesity..high cholesterol..hypertension..along with the hyperglycemia.

There's a slew of drugs she can start speaking for with that.

Coreen said...

Weathered our 1st 'snow storm' of the year...well
it was 1" wet snow & then slushy
& wet...Today it's all gone...
If it has to snow, that is the way it should be...

I know you are both big 'modern
family' watchers...the dustup about
the little girl character swearing
is on tonite...remind me...

Seems though in reality...the word
the actor says that is bleeped is
'fudge'...as for the buildup
of hand wringing (do you think maybe the show's producers leaked
that info so it would drum up more
viewers?...gee am I too cyinical!!!) I suspect it it much ado about nothing...

And what about Paula Deen...I know you are big on cooking Carol...don't know if you
are a Deen admirer (as far as her
cooking & her show, not necessarily her politics)....I find
it so typical that there is a lot
of the media types with their claws
out...attacking her cooking style NOW...don't remember hearing much
criticism before her revelation, don't remember anything other than she cooked these 'real' southern dishes...um, um good...as they all
drooled when they interviewed her over the years...

So now....will the negative attacks that she is a hypocrite..
she had no business pushing her shtick, when she knew she had diabetes bring her down
(what I heard so far, you'd think
she was a mass murderer)...

& no I never watched her show, never bought anything she sells....

will her show ratings/cooking empire crash or will she wind up with a whole new routine & make more $$$....

The media sure loves to build someone up & then tear them down
in a nano second when it serves
their agenda....

Carol said...

Hi..Coreen. I had to stay home today due to a GI problem..I think work stress related or is it part of my diet plan??

I have only watched Paula a few times. Her cooking is particularly high fat and that's the problem for most people with diabetes.

When I worked with people with diabetes..they taught me alot. I did extensive interviews regarding their diet and lifestyle.

Most of them grew up eating meat and starches. There weren't any vegetarians in the bunch most had very few vegetables in their diets.

jan said...

Coreen, I taped Modern Fam and have not watched as yet. Had lots of chores last few evenings and not much TV watching. I will watch tonight.

I have never watched Paula Deen, but know who she is. Her foods have been too high fat for my tastes. She uses butter and lard like there is no tomorrow. I think a lot of people watch her show just to hear her talk. I am not at all surprised she has Diabetes. She was on Dr. Oz show recently and talked about having health problems. Don't think she mentioned Diabetes.

Carol said...

I've read some of the comments posted after the articles about Deen having diabetes. Some resent her having waited 3 years to mention it..all the while cooking up these high fat meals.

I guess she didn't have to ever tell anyone but also..she decided to bring it up after she makes a deal with a pharmaceutical company with a new drug to treat diabetes.

That kinda makes it a little on the icky side..like don't change your lifestyle..just take this new pill. Isn't that one of our biggest problems these days.

And FYI.. they don't have a pill that takes changing your diet and exercise out of the equation for treating diabetes. Not yet.. but I'll put some money on it when they do.

Carol said...

And something else that is very important to mention with type 2 diabetes..it is a preventable disease. Healthy diet and exercise is how to do it.

Once a person acquires the disease..it's a lifetime of complicated management. And very expensive to manage it properly.

It is such a complex disease that even most healthcare practitioners don't understand it or it's management very well.. even though they do try to manage it.

When I was a certified diabetes educator and ran an education center..it took night and day to keep up with all the new info that came out. Then..all I could do is educate and make recommendations. Often my patient's providers wouldn't even cooperate with those recommendations.

Now..that I have the ability to provide the management myself..I'm not as knowledgable about all the options anymore. Fortunately.. the options I do have available on my formulary..I am knowledgable about. They work. I would bet I have better outcomes in my peps in jail than the avg outcomes in the free world and it's because of my passion to treat the disease and my experience as a diabetes educator.

I've often pondered that my 40 years of having a variety of experiences have well prepared me to work with a needy group of patients. And another advantage I have..they're a captive audience.

Carol said...

One of the reasons that I like my job is that I don't have to over prescribe anything. I have constant contact with my patients so that I can watch..educate.. and wait.

Carol said...

Jan..I think Coreen is talking about the Modern Family coming on tonight. I read the preview. Don't forget it. We need every laugh we can get.

Last week it was about family competition in the kids egg drop contest..I think.

Carol said...

And a very important component to the diet for diabetes is portion control. People don't have to buy all this expensive diet food. That stuff is very decieving.

When my inmates come in with diabetes and the meds they take at home..I usually have to reduce the doses significantly and monitor blood sugars before each meal to determine an new appropriate dose.

The reason I have to do that is because they have to eat the diet we provide. It's a regular diet..with dessert.. but..it's portion controlled.

If I left them on the doses of meds they were on at home..usually because they tend to overeat at home..their current dose of medication would cause harm or possibly even kill them.

jan said...

Great Modern Family show tonight.

Carol said...

Jan..MF is always funny. Love it.

Carol said...

I saw that PPP did a poll that showed that Colbert had a higher favorability rating than any of the other GOP candidates.

Colbert's involvement in this presidential race is a joke but it seems that the other candidates in this GOP primary are a joke also.

I keep having this feeling that the GOP are again trying to throw the election to Obama. Kinda thought they did it last time. Never thought that McCain and Palin was the best they could do. And it's not like Obama has been too out of line with what they wanted and it gives them someone to blame for the mess we're in.

jan said...

American Idol on last night. First audition in Savannah GA. Some good talent.

jan said...

Wow! I am ready for this week to be over. John's brother tripped tuesday taking out recycling stuff and an object penetrated his eye (still don't know what). He had surgery on the eye. could not see out of it. Don't know if he will regain sight in the eye. They live in Ark.

This morning was visiting one of our child care centers and watched a little 2 year old trip and fall and gash his forehead open. Bled a lot. With the teachers help I held a pressure bandage on it - his mother got there about 30 minutes later and took him to urgent care. Poor little guy. It was hard holding him down and keeping that pressure bandage on. I think he will be fine.

At the same time that this happened, my granddaughter in law gave birth in Colo to my 3rd great grandchild, a boy - 7 lbs 3 oz. Mom and babe doing well.
So how has your week been?

Carol said...

OMG Jan..what a week! At least it ended well..with the new baby. Have a name?

Carol said...

Coreen..I didn't notice you mentioning "dustup" when you were talking about Modern Family yesterday. I saw the show and thought it was funny.

I just read about the dustup and I can't believe that episode caused such a stir with that Family group. It's so common for little kids to do something like saying some bad word and often at the worst possible time. I bet everyone's kids have done that at least once.

Jan..did your kids ever come out with a bad word when they were young like little Lily did? Maybe not the F word.

It's usually such a shock when it happens that one of the parents..if not both.. laugh..usually a nervous laugh..before they can control it like Cam did.

Carol said...

I really wonder if your BIL will ever see out of that eye again. With the sounds of that injury..I kinda doubt it but I'm not up on the miracles of eye surgery these days.

Carol said...

Roemer will be on Real Time with Bill Maher tomorrow night. I'm having a friend record it. I don't have HBO anymore. I just never watched it. I actually got it once just because of his show and then when he was so hard on Hillary..I dumped it.

Carol said...

Oh..and I'm going to record..if I'm not up..Nightline. They are interviewing one of Newt's x wives. That ought to be worth a laugh or two. It comes on right after my Daily Show and Colbert Report.

From what I heard and read..Newt wanted an open marriage and that wife didn't. He was already sleeping with his current wife at the time. Actually if I had to be married to Newt..I'd want an open marriage. I think everything about that man is gross.

I'm not much for reality shows but these stooges from the GOP are providing about the same quality entertainment and it's actually real.

Carol said...

Something weird happened on my only local option channel for ABC. The Nightline show changed to a rerun of Two and a Half Men. Hmmmmm?? Guess I'll have to watch it online later.

jan said...

Carol, they named the baby Kian Rogers W. they posted some cute pics on facebook. He has a round face and a very round little nose. Eyes tightly closed. Little fat cheeks. Looks like most of the other babies born into our family. They told everyone early on that they were choosing to not know if having a girl or boy. This is their 2nd boy.

Carol said...

If you were having a baby now..would you want to know the sex ahead of time?? They can still screw it up though. My neice had a boy not that many years ago and they told her it would be a girl and it was a boy. I guess you would be better off not knowing than planning for the wrong sex.

Carol said...

Interesting debate last night! Hehehe.

I guess it was kinda ballsy for CNN to start the debate with the cheating on your wife question but I'm still kinda surprised by the audience response but it does seem that the meaner some of those guys seem..the more the South Carolina audience like it.

Carol said...

If Newt hadn't been the guy who seemed to lead the attack on Clinton when he went astray and present himself as a big family values man... he may not have deserved that kind of question.

Carol said...

And Newt said that you can ask all of his friends if that story about his marriage is true?? How many people were involved in his open marriage??

And actually you could say that the "open marriage" thing made Newt seem a little more humane..instead of just dumping his wives when each developed a serious health issue..he gave them the option to share his ugly ass. He is a compassionate conservative!

jan said...

I guess the most telling thing for me about Gingrich is that he told someone years ago that his (first) wife was not young or pretty enough for the white house. His first wife does have MS. As far as his daughters saying he did a lot to keep the marriage together - give me a break - they work for Newt - so they are dependent on him for their livelihood. Also, not only did Newt divorce his 1st wife because she was not young or pretty enough, she had a disability. He is a creep and a jerk to the extreme. If he were the democrat nominee, I would vote for the republican.

jan said...

Carol, I definitely would want to know the sex of the baby if possible. that was not an option in any of my pregnancies. I do not like surprises.

Coreen said...

Newt was a nasty sob way back when...I am one of those who have
never forgotten his hypocrisy when he was at the head of the pack
slamming Clinton...

and the media knew he was screwing
a 'staffer' way back then but never
really made an issue of it...

jan said...

Was watching an early morning show this morning. I think the woman is Kelly Ripa. She said her children are not allowed to watch TV on weekdays. She said her kids said they "socially deprived" because they were unable to watch American Idol" and the teacher and their peers discussed the outcome of AI each week and they were unable to enter into the discussion. So now she is allowing them to watch AI.

BTW, on the show they talked about one young man last night who they think will be the next AI - and this kid is truly amazing. I will see if I can find his name. Kind of a different name.

jan said...

I remember Newt back then too. I didn't like him then and don't like him now.

jan said...

Here is the kid's name that I liked on AI last night. Eben Franckewitz, 15. I copied and pasted his name. Would never remember how to spell it. He is really cute too. People are saying he looks like Justin Bieber, but I think he is lots cuter.

jan said...

Watch Justin Bieber Clone Eben Franckewitz Sing "Ain't No Sunshine" in American Idol Season 11 Pittsburgh Auditons on January 19, 2012

jan said...

Just looked up DWTS and it is on tomorrow on GSN -looks like there are several times it is on beginning at 4 pm on a different network. Some interesting stars will be on: Mohammad Ali's daughter, Billy Ray Cyrus, Apollo Ohno.

Carol said...

Ya know..I've been wondering just who watches the Kardasians..because I haven't found anyone who will admit to it. I think I found out who...it must be that South Carolina group that were cheering for the Newt at the last two debates. Something has to explain it.

I just hope they weren't representative of many of the people in that state since it is a beautiful southern state.

Carol said...

Colbert is down in South Carolina and was on Morning Joe this morning. I heard he would be on and while getting ready for work I was keeping an ear tuned on the show.

Just as he came on..it was time for me to leave. I did stay for a little while and left a little late. I recorded the rest and just finished watching it.

I just love Colbert. He is doing more to point out the lunacy of politics these days than anyone else. Maybe adding to it just a tad but I'd rather laugh than cry about it.

Carol said...

Jan..have you heard how your BIL is doing?

jan said...

Carol, My BIL called John this afternoon. He still cannot see out of hie eye. He is having surgery next Thurs. He is saying he has some blood in the eyeball and he may have lost his lens. He does have Type II DM as well and that has been causing some vision problems. This was his left eye and his better one. He and John talk every day. He is 68.

Coreen said...

Well our first snowstorm is here...

Not sure how much out there yet,
snowing hard & have not ventured outside yet...

My birds/squirrels are out there digging in the snow for seeds...so
there must be 3-4" so far...I throw
seeds twice a day, so they have seed from last evening still...

Once it lets up I will go out &
throw more seed & see how deep it is...

jan said...

Coreen, well your winter weather finally arrived. Hope you are doing well.

Carol said...

Well..it's 74 here and muggy. I was just bringing Maggie back in from taking her out and I heard this rustling sound in the grass down below my deck. I looked down and it was a s----. It slithered into the water.

Yikes..74 and a snake... in January???

jan said...

oh Carol, I am like Coreen, I am not too fond of snakes. I know they are God's creatures too and no reason to fear them. I know they live close to water. You seem to be ok with them around. Do you ever see any inside your house?

jan said...

Carol, I just posted a pic of my great grandson on FB. I copied it from my grandson's posting.

Carol said...

Jan..noooooooo..to the do I see snake in the house. I'd be moving somewhere.

With this being a great snake habitat..I rarely see one. Being up in the air does make me feel better.

I have heard of people.. over the years.. who have found snakes in the house but that's in other states also.

Carol said...

Jan..couldn't find the pics.

Carol, if you go to FB and click on my picture, you should see the pics.

jan said...

Carol said...

Jan..I've searched your FB high and low. All I found were pics from Abigail's BD.

Carol said...

Read on TM that Flatus..one of the regulars there..went out and voted the Cain/Colbert option. He lives in South Carolina. He felt like others were doing the same.

Colbert is borrowing the Cain space on the Repub ticket to get on the ballot to do his exploratory.

I'll be watching..As the Worm Turns..tonight to see how things turn out. Not much else on TV. I read that viewing of Jersey Shore still beat the debate the other night.

Carol said...

Well..it looks like Obama's chances of winning again this year are getting better and better unless the rest of the American voters are as strange of the one's from South Carolina.

Newt has so much baggage that it would be hard for him to afford to fly these days. Yet..in South Carolina..the worse Newt seemed to get..the more they liked him. No wonder people from other parts of the country think people in the South are a bunch of yahoos.

jan said...

we are watching DWTS. Heather Mills is one of contestants. She was married to Paul McCartney. They had a BAD divorce. I was reading about her on wikopedia and she was on DWTS in 2007. I watched some videos of her dancing then. I did not know that they a star could repeat the experience on DWTS.

jan said...

Carol, I don't think there is any repub running now who can beat Obama.

jan said...

I looked at my FB page. the pic of the baby is one I "borrowed" using the "share" icon from my grandson. oh well, what can I say, he looks like a baby. I think he is pretty cute.

Carol said...

Jan..the DWTS show you are watching is a rerun from 2007..I think. Those you mentioned the other day were all on DWTS years ago.

Carol said...

This season DWTS starts March 19. When I looked that up on Pure DWTS.. I saw that there was a rumor that Paula Deen might be on this season.

"Hollywood Life has an “inside source” that says the producers of Dancing With The Stars have asked professional chef Paula Deen to dance"

That will help her diabetes...if she hasn't already developed some peripheral neuropathy..a complication of diabetes. It's not uncommon for people with diabetes to already have developed complications by the time they are diagnosed.

Carol said...

And I found that GSN are playing the reruns of previous seasons of DWTS.

Carol said...

I'm not that literate with FB but those baby pics may be on your page but not coming thru to my page. I can't see things from your friends and family on my page.

Carol said...

I was just pondering that maybe they should have warnings on the bottom of some of those cooking programs...eating this food can cause diabetes..heart disease...

They must have warnings on tobacco and alcohol products.

Carol said...

There's a website ...http://www.americanselect.org/. They are trying to pick a candidate as a third party choice.

There's a long survey you can participate in asking how you feel about all the major issues. I did start the survey but it's so long I'll have to go back to finish at another time.

When you answer the questions..they do give you feedback on how the rest of the country..and each state.. answered the questions. My responses were most often similar to everyone elses.

I really want a third option. I think this country needs a third option..more than ever.

Carol said...

I'm not sure that even if we had the perfect option in a third party..one who would really benefit the majority of the people.. if the people would even check them out.

For many..politics is like sports and like sports..no matter how rotten your team is playing..it's still your team and you're gonna support them.

Carol said...

You may wonder why I don't trust Obama..being that he is the Captain of my team.

I would love to trust Obama! Seriously! I do like the man and love his family but here are my reasons for being uncomfortable...

From the get go...he got the job a way too easy. I think it is because..TPTB..(the powers that be)..planned for him to get the job. That always makes me feel very uncomfortable.

Think about it..a black man..who wasn't well known..wasn't tested..with a name like Barack Hussein Obama was elected to be president...in this country and at that time??? Too good to be true. Nothing these days or back 4years ago was too good to be true.

For that to have happened..it had to be that extremely big money was pushing his candidacy. And like this time..the candidate running against him last time was very flawed.

I don't trust when extremely big money is behind a candidate. It's not there to protect the interests of those of us who don't have extremely big money...the 99%.

I did vote for Obama and I hoped and prayed that my discomfort about doing it would disappear but it didn't take long to realize that extremely big money got exactly what they paid for.

The second big reason is that the opposing party..continues to pick very flawed candidates to run against Obama. Any candidate in their party who seems to have less flaws..less baggage..is marginalized..dismissed and ignored..not only by the powers in the party but also by the MSM.

jan said...

Carol, I am LOL. The laugh is on John and me. Thanks for looking that up. Too funny. We were not watching it in 2007. I wondered why the network had so many of them.

Carol said...

Coreen...how much snow did you end up with?

Have you noticed that bird seed has gone way up. I'm spending more on my animal food than on mine.

Also read that chicken wings have gone up 50% because the Superbowl is coming. It's a popular fare for the game. Reported that people will eat 1.25bil wings on Superbowl Sunday. Burp.

I have noticed for a while now how expensive chicken wings have been. I guess it may be because there are many places that specialize in only chicken wings. I like to use them to make my spicy lemon chicken wings but don't eat them often.

I don't fry mine..just bake them to a golden brown.

Like hot dogs..chicken wings is one of those foods where one bite is not enough and the next is way too much.

I made some last night and I ate 3 and a half wings. Just the right amount.

Coreen said...

Carol, as far as I'm concerned, the dem. party hierarchy (who I have no use for whatsoever, despise is likely a better word)
wanted to thwart the ambitions of
Hillary Clinton so desparately that 'those behind the scenes powers that be' as you called them made a choice between two truly historical events...that would be
either the election of the first woman president or the election of the first black president....

And since it was and still remains
a guy's world (make no mistake about that) those powers that be...and they were democrats...backed & pushed the black guy over the woman....they ignored the fact that he was absolutlely not qualified to lead...since keeping it a guy's world was vastly more important than letting that woman take control of the country...

Obama is a most likable person, he's the cool guy everyone wants to hang with (the class president, the star player on the team..whatever image you want to see))(did you see the clip of him singing Al Green's 'i'm so in love with you...how cool was that)...but he was simply not prepared to lead the country...which has now painfully been exposed...

When I first saw him speak in 2004
at the convention, I too was captivated by his performance & felt at some future time he truly would be the first black president..but I did not think he was prepared in 2008....Sadly I continue to be less
than convinced that he was the right choice...But here we are for better or worse...

jan said...

Carol, I remember your lemon chicken wings. Soooo good.

I'm heading out to go visit SF and to buy a hot water heater.

I changed both elements..one twice..and both thermostats..the breaker and still nada. The thing is less than 9 years old and it does have a 9 year warranty but I would never know where that paperwork is.

I had a friend who isn't a plumber but does work all the time with other major electrical things..heating and AC. He knows what he is doing. He gave it his best shot.

I talked with a plumber who works for the same co my friend works with and he said that 9 years was about the longevity of a HWH. Seems kinda short to me. My last one lasted almost 30 years. They just don't make things like the used to.

jan said...

Came down with a cold yesterday. Several little kids at the child care centers I visit had runny noses. I wash my hands until my skin is flaking. I have a feeling I got this one when I was taking care of the little 2 year old who bashed his head on a bookcase.

Interesting, I saw him hit the bookcase. He was running full speed. The teacher said she heard another teacher yelled at him "walk, don't run." I did not hear that. She also said he tripped over another child. I did not see that either. Looked to me like he tripped over a little area rug. Funny how each person sees or hears something totally different.

Carol said...

Just heard that Joe Paterno died. Even if the guys was the picture of health..what he went thru would have likely killed him.

The lead teacher and I each had to write what we saw on the incident report.

Coreen said...

We had a little more than 6" snow...

I shoveled a path in 2 places to
feed the birds, since it was pretty deep for them to dig into...
and yes the cost of the seed is
up as is just about most items...

We still pay almost $4/gal for gas
& heating oil is $4+/gal...the only positive with heating oil, is the winter has not been sustained cold...

Coreen said...

Oh and Jan, saw your DWTS post, but didn't have the heart to tell

Coreen said...

And I know you don't care since the Saints are out...but...has to be NYGiants tonight, bad weather or not in SF...Standing with 'Big Blue' all the way...

Coreen said...

Just watched Chris Cristie on Meet the Press...I know you seem to hate any Republican...but I really like the NJ governor (even if he persists in calling the Giants the Jersey Giants...his point being they play in NJ not NY, many of the players live in NJ)...he tells

Carol said...

Visiting with SF. He's pitiful. Please God take me before
I get this way.

Coreen, I don't dislike Repubs, just the bad ones. I love Buddy, will even change my party affiliation to vote for him but his party ignored him. He's too reasonable. He would be too likeable.

Christy isn't running.

I will watch that game this afternoon and will be pulling for your Giants. ...to go all the way. My grief over my Saints has died down...and I actually miss watching football.

jan said...

Coreen, I like Christie. I think he is one of the good ones. Please don't spare my feelings if I am watching reruns -thinking they are new shows. Sooo funny, I can laugh at myself. I wondered whey the female MC was back too. I was getting pissed at DWTS producers for having a contestant back again who had been on the show in 2001 - Haley Mills.

jan said...

Carol, I am sorry to hear about SF. I saw that happen with my grandmother but she was close to 90 when that happened.

I am a nut for babies Carol, even those not related to me. I don't know where that came from. When we are in restaurants or airports, etc. if there are any babies or little kids up to about 6 yrs, I like to sit where I can see them. I think they are fascinating. I have to try and keep from looking too much, as it might make parents nervous. I enjoy going to our child care centers when I have a child I need to observe for development - my favorite part of the job.

Carol said...

Why do you stop at 6 Jan? I am uncomfortable around the little babies. I like the ones who are starting to walk and talk..up until the age that they get sassy.
