Clouds, Rainbows & Balloons

This has been a wonderful few weeks of looking at the sky in our little neighborhood in NM. I took all pictures from my front porch. We had some beautiful clouds and rainbows about 2-3 weeks ago and then this morning the hot air balloons from the Balloon Fiesta flew over.

Was time to change posts.

Great clouds, rainbows and balloon pics Jan. And all from your porch. That's the way I like it.

And you got a double rainbow.

Sis got in and we filled up on gumbo. Good stuff. Sis loved it. I'll be putting back on some of that weight I lost.

Sis is watching the Daily Show/Colbert. She doesn't do TV at home, doesn't even have one, so she will get her fill while here.

I did hear about the outcome of DWTS. Bummer. Yes, it is just a popularity contest. The voting public does as well with voting on dancing as they do in voting on politics. We're in trouble.

Chaz has got to go. The judges did give him very low scores. I noticed that when the judges were doing their critique last night, and they were very kind, he looked totally insulted.

Carol said...

Congrats Coreen on your Yanks. They blew it out of the water. I knew they could do it and now we have to sweat out tomorrow.

Carol said...

Anyone left to pitch?

Carol said...

And I showed Sis some of the DWTS I recorded..just some of the dances. She thought Chaz was awful. I like the guy but it's an insult to dancing and the show for him to beat out others. Sure..I respect his bravery and all but it's ridiculous.

And for Hope to be in the bottom two. That's ridiculous. I'm telling you Jan and Coreen and anyone else out there reading this..if you can..you should vote for the ones who you think are best. Voting is quick and easy...not llike voting for AI. We need to counter those voting just to make a political statement.

I'd vote all day long for Chaz to have the opportunity to do what he wants to do but not to win a dance contest. I think it's an insult to Chaz to keep him in the contest. It just makes him a joke and he doesn't deserve that.

I just heard that Cher tweeted that if Chaz makes it another week...she'll be in the audience next week. Hmmm. Cher may be the reason Chaz is getting the votes.

Carol said...

Sis coming in gave me a lot more energy today. I didn't even get a nap in and I was going all day and I'm still up. But I can sleep late tomorrow.

jan said...

Carol, I will start voting next week. You are right, we need to vote for the best dancers.

So glad to hear your energy level is up. I think the anticipation of seeing someone you love has a big effect.

My energy this morning is the worst ever. My right arm hurts - John said I slept with it over my head last night. I need to wear a sling at night. My left thumb hurt a lot yesterday. I have arthritis in it and I really overused it in some work I did with kids. I am paying for my not asking for help.

jan said...

Coreen, so glad to hear your yanks won.

jan said...

I too think its a shame that one of the best dancers was voted off, and Hope too.

jan said...

I think sympathy votes are rediculous, but remember how far Bristol Palin got.

jan said...

I was really happy that Amanda Knox is home. I watched that whole thing 4 years ago and I felt there was some anti-Americanism on the part of the Italians in that entire fiasco. She did behave immaturely but good God she was 20 years old. There was really no evidence connecting her to that murder. She did make an accusation that was uncalled for. Don't know why she did that. I think when push comes to shove, adolescents make stupid decisions. Plus, when she was questioned she spoke very little Italian. Could be that she did not understand the questions.

Nice day today and nice weather. We took the Magster for a walk this morning, went to lunch at a Greek restaurant I'd never been to, did the walk on the lakefront, then went to see The Help. We enjoyed the movie even though it was sad.

It was a good day except the three times work called to torment me about that new inmate full of holes that the hospital refused to keep any longer and was sending to our jail today. I told them I wasn't running a hospital, I just see patients at a clinic and I was on vacation today. I'll have to deal with it tomorrow. They still managed to ruin a good bit of my day anyway worrying about it.

jan said...

Too bad your work folks had to call and shoot a little hole in your day today.

Glad you and your sis had a nice day and weather. I liked the Help too. A sad movie - so good someone is telling the story of the Black women/household workers of that era.

jan said...

Kinda fun to watch X factor. I like hearing the singers and trying to pick out which ones will go on and which ones will go home. I wonder if they will do something about voting to help good singers make it through.

I saw Scotty on one of the morning shows this past week. I don't think he did that well.

jan said...

It rained a lot yesterday and last night (for Albuq). Was awfully cool this morning. We don't want to turn on heat yet. John had on 2 sweat shirts. I wore a light sweater over my short sleeve shirt.

jan said...

It is great to have a few older folks on this show.

Rest in Peace Steve Jobs. His innovation touched many of our lives. One legacy he left behind is his message that we all ought to be doing what makes us happy in life. I just heard his thoughts on that subject.. after his death.. but it is something we all ought to consider.

I remember when the Apple Mac came out. I did not buy one and instead bought a TRS 80 - and later regretted not buying a Mac. I now love my MacBook - 56 y/o is awfully young to die. He started his company when he was 21.

jan said...

John's daughter posted the above on Facebook. I think it is worth sharing.

jan said...

The spiritual side of Steve Jobs

Above is an interesting bio about S. Jobs.

Carol said...

Jan, I do like that quote from Jobs. Thanks for sharing it with us. Maybe Steve accomplished what he needed to accomplish here and it was time for him to move to a higher plane of existance.

Even though the trip may seem a little frightening to most of us, I do believe it is going to be a more exciting adventure than this one. Hey, I'm even afraid to travel overseas.

Carol said...

I have the next four days off for sure then not sure what I will take off next week. Monday is a holiday. We don't know what we will do for fun yet, need to do some planning. Have some business stuff to take care of.

Monday I have to bring my Toyota in for maintanence and to repair a few things. Will rent a vehicle. My Toyota has 146,000 miles on it and I'm hoping for at least that many more. That's why I bought a Toyota. It still looks fairly good and I've never had even close to that many miles on any of my previous rides.

Carol said...

Well, the Yanks are down to the bottom on the 8th inning and behind 3-2. Don't want to feel Coreen's grief if they lose. Can't hear about it anymore.

Carol said...

Very sorry Coreen.

jan said...

hi ho, hi ho, its off to work I go. Took most of yesterday off. Need to see some little ones. Looking forward to a couple of days off and no thoughts of work.

Carol, hope you and your sis are having a lovely, relaxing time.

jan said...

Okahoma (My boy's team) and Texas (my team) play tomorrow. Bill and Kathy are having a red river blowout breakfast at their house but John and I have an ordination of a priest to go to (she is a good friend). What a woman. She has a PhD in business and has had a successful business and now she is going to be an Episcopal priest.

Carol said...

That ought to be a good game Jan..#3 vs #11. I'll be pulling for Tx. LSU plays Florida at the same time today. Don't know what sis and I'll be doing but I'll record the game just in case.

Don't know if y'all heard about this but our number one QB..Jordan Jefferson.. was suspended before the season started because he was allegedly involved in a bar brawl. I think many of the fb players broke curfew that night and several guys pulled this Marine out of a vehicle at the bar and supposedly our QB..JJ.. kicked the guy in the face. Kicking someone who is down..no matter how much of a jerk he might be..is chicken shit IMO. and to do it right before a big game when breaking curfew is really poor judgement.

JJ was arrested and he was suspended. Then they had a grand jury and the original charge was busted down to a misdemeanor of simple battery and he was reinstated to the team. That doesn't surprise me.

The second QB..Jarrett Lee..who did somewhat share the position..started in the first 4 games and brought LSU to victory in 4 road games. He did very well.

Last week..the coach said that Jefferson probably wouldn't play since he hadn't practiced and was out 4 games but very soon after the game started he was put in to run in a touchdown. I was disappointed with that decision and so were most of the people I know. It tainted the game for me.

jan said...

Carol, I did not know the QB at LSU - too bad. Like you said, really bad judgment. And a marine to boot. Even if the marine was a chicken shit, he is a marine - but most football players are not known for great judgment in bad situations. I will keep up with the game.

Go Longhorns and Tigers.

jan said...

Write and let me know what you and your sis are doing each day.

jan said...

Do you want to hear something strange. I had a dream about Dr. C. Anderson (LC) last night. I don't know where that came from. I had a little flirtation going on with him when I was there before you and I went to Houston. He was my doc and my kids doc for several years.

jan said...

Is Dr. Moffat still practicing?

jan said...

Carol, congrats - LSU won their game. Texas lost.

jan said...

Arkansas won too.

Carol said...

Jan..did you know that Dr Anderson died years ago of some type of cancer. He was fairly young. I don't know anything about Dr Moffett. I even asked just recently if anyone knew what he was doing. They didn't.

Carol said...

And I didn't think that the Marine was the one who was chicken shit..he may have been a jerk and he may have been the one who was provocative but Jordan is the one who allegedly kicked him in the face when he was down. That was the chicken shit part of it.

He gave a public comment the other day and wasn't at all remorseful about any of it. There is just this attitude by atheletes that they can do anything. Some might be good enough to get away with it. This guy isn't.

And athletes do seem to be getting their karma like everyone else these days.. even when they are really good..ie..Tiger and Vick.

Carol said...

Yesterday..sis and I went down to the Wildlife preserve. We do that every time she comes down. We didn't see as much wildlife as usual.

We also did Walmart. I think we have been to either Sam's or Walmart every day since she got here. We both like to eat and have done a lot of that. We boiled some shrimp last night.

I got really mad at Walmart yesterday and this is a problem almost every Saturday. They seem to be out of something I'm needing every Saturday. I'm sure that many people have to do their shopping on Saturday so when they are out of stuff.. they are losing sales right and left.

jan said...

Having lived in several states and a foreign country, I can say that the food in LA is about the best. So glad you are eating well. You need it.

Thanks for telling me about Dr. A. so sorry to hear that. He took good care of my family while we lived there. We were always able to get in to see him when needed. I cannot say that here. We had a good family doc in the little town in AR before moving here. could always get in to see him too. We have a great doc but he only works 25%. I hear lots of people here say that about their docs.

jan said...

I agree about the athletes. But what can you say about a bunch of football players. They have been given everything in the world.

Everyone's team won yesterday but mine. Of course, for me - I don't care that much.

jan said...

This is last day of balloon fiesta. I did not feel like going this year. No fun to get out in the cold with a sore arm. John has a tooth bothering him. He had it filled Friday. Still hurts. probably going to have to get a root canal. Poor guy.

jan said...

I am making a pot of soup this afternoon. It is soup weather. It is in the 40's in the morning and in 60's in afternoon. Great weather. I like it colder.

jan said...

We may be catching up on our rain. We have had a lot this past week. Too bad for the balloon F. though. they were rained out or "winded" out 3 days. I read they lost lots of money this year.

jan said...

Carol, I am not voting for Nancy Grace this time. I hope to h*** she gets kicked off DWTS. I hear she has been saying that Amanda Knox is guilty.
I cannot tolerate Nancy Grace and do not ever plan to watch her show. She is a b**** in the worst possible way - and I think her kids don't have much personality.

jan said...

Can you tell I am P'd off.

Carol said...

It's a toss up between Chaz and Nancy and I do think Nancy is a tad better than Chaz unless something happens tomorrow. I'm gonna stick with trying to vote for who I think is best.

And there are many who feel that Amanda wasn't totally innocent but I do feel their evidence was tainted. It was a complicated case.

Yes, Nancy can be a bitch.

Carol said...

It's closing in on the end of the Saint's game and they are having some trouble against Carolina and Cam Newton. They're trailing right now.

Go Saints!

Carol said...

Jan, both of our towns are listed in CNN Money's 25 best places to retire:

25 Best Places to Retire

Carol said...

Not really impressed with the dances tonight. Not crazy about the choreography.

Carol said...

Three dances left and nada in my book but haven't seen Ricki or JR yet.

Carol said...

Rob got three 8s. To me, he's like a bull in the china shop. I didn't find him any better than Carson and Carson got low scores. I wonder how much Robs paying the judges. Someone must be paying someone. Arrgh.

Don't like the music, the choreography or the dancing tonight.

Carol said...

Ricki had some really horrible music. It was so bad that I couldn't even focus on the dancing.

Carol said...

No wonder..it was the theme from Psycho!

Anonymous said...

try

Anonymous said...

I'm back!!!maybe...

So here goes...I liked Ricki, Derek is a great
choreographer...JR is just real smooth...

Nancy is blah & Chaz gave his all, but it really isn't enough...but I did get to see Cher & she looked great....

The rest ok...

Anonymous said...

Miss me??!!!....

And hey, we have had an extraordinary weekend...the weather was in the 70s to 80s...not a cloud in the sky....

Anonymous said...

Have no idea why this is working tonite...

A couple of days ago a note popped up saying
a program was doing something to the computer & it was going back to internet explorer...
& for a couple of days the same note kept popping up I had to press on the instructions to keep google as my I don't even know...anyway
until tonite I could not get in...

jan said...

Coreen is back! Yaayyy.

I did like David's dance and Carson was as always - a bunch of fun.

jan said...

I felt bad for Chynna. I think she is taking it all too seriously.

jan said...

How cool that several of my favorite towns/cities are on 25 best places to retire. I am surprised that Asheville, NC was not on this list. I just saw it on another list of 10 best places to retire.

Carol said...

Welcome back Coreen! These computers have a mind of their own. I don't understand them.

Jan..I'm real surprised we made the list.

Carol said...

I do think having Cher come watch the dancing will save Chaz for another week. The camera spent as much time watching her as it did Chaz. She looked like a very proud mom.

I'm still disappointed in that show last night. Maybe if I watched it again with the sound on mute it might help..especially with Ricki's dance.

With Carson's dance..I kept worrying about their falling over the props.

Not sure why the judges are so tough on JR.

Carol said...

I'm not looking forward to going back to work today. It will be tough after being off for 4 days and I didn't get many naps in to rest up.

Carol said...

Jan..most of the dancers have this tortured look on their faces when they listen to the judge's evaluations. Concidering what the judges have to say..the look is appropriate.

Carol said...

Wasn't it strange that Carrie Ann told JR that he shouldn't have put anything humorous in his dance. The theme was the Pink Panther. Maybe she wasn't familiar with those movies.

Carol said...

Can you believe that woman who ran a marathon 39 weeks pregnant?? Yep..she went into labor. Her baby was probably still hyperventilating when it was delivered.

Anonymous said...

Looks like I'm still here...

By the way Jan I really love the rainbows...rarely see one...

Anonymous said...

it's even working at my office...so my conclusion would be that it is Blogger's doing not mine...

jan said...

I did not like the music for Ricki and Derek's dance either. Too strange. But as always, Derek made it work.

Carol said...

Good evening folkes. Nice to have more than one folk again.

I went back to watch DWTS without the sound. Wanted to see if it was better without that music. Not really. But I do think they could have selected some better show music for dancing. Psycho? Really? Yes Derek did a pretty good job coming up with something for that music but still it hurt my ears. Derek could choreograph bbs on a tin roof.

The judges were pretty generous with their scores, overly so, except with JR who they always underscore..IMO. What do you think is going on there?

I watched Chaz again and even though he won't...he needs to go. Keep Cher but dump the Chaz. Sorry, but I can even top that guy. The best part of his dance was his running up the stairs at the end. I doubt I could do that right now but after 4 weeks of dancing..I might.

Now, if I were choosing who had the most irritating personality, I would choose Nancy even though she has toned it down on this show. She's more humble on this show.

Carol said...

I brought my truck in yesterday for it's 146,000 maintainance. It needed a few things like one headlight was out, a cargo light was out, the tailgate latch broke off, it was plastic, and it needed a tuneup. It was driving OK.

I thought it might be somewhat expensive but the service lady called today and said she estimated the cost for all maintainance needed would be $2700. Yipes. She told me things that needed to be done that I would never know if they were really needed. What can I do..I just don't know if all that stuff is really needed. I certainly hope I can get another 150 thou miles after all that.

I wonder if they will actually do everything she mentioned. I'll never know.

Anonymous said...

Hey guys, thankfully still here...

As for DWTS maybe the judges criticism of JR
is just to keep interest churning...after all
if there is no 'drama' about the finalists, the
ratings could suffer...so they put him down
in little ways...

Regardless of the Psycho theme music, Ricki &
Derek did a great routine...& yes, Derek
is the best...he makes it look easy whoever he is partnered with...

For me its a tossup between Nancy & Chaz, both
should be gone...Chaz if just painful to watch,
& yes his run up the stairs was impressive, but
just not enough....Seems the hoopla over having
a transgender? (not sure if that is the correct
word) dance, has created a megaproblem with none of the judges really wanting to appear
in any way not supportive, but the fact is, Chaz just really can not dance...

Nancy may be trying to tone it down, but she
comes across as condescending...must come from
the fact that as a 'diva' on her own show, it is difficult for her to be just one of the gang...she lacks any 'likability'....

As I said, all the rest of the dancers did an ok job, but for some reason, they lack that little extra to cheer for...

Carol said...

I did have it serviced at about 86 thou miles but it was only about $1600 then. That's the only other time I had any service done except for oil/filter kind of stuff. I've had no real problems with it.

I've never kept a vehicle this long or put that many miles on one. I need a truck so I hope I can keep this one working for those needs. The next vehicle I will purchase will be some super efficiency car, an electric/gas vehicle.

Carol said...

Agee Coreen.

Carol said...

Do y'all think that Lacey has put on some weight?

Carol said...

My votes went...3 for JR, 3 for Ricki, one each for Carson, Hope and yes...Nancy. I'm sympathetic for older fat women..OK..mainly because I can identify.

Anonymous said...

Gee Carol, pretty sure I am about to buy a new car...my Jaguar is a 2002, 56,000 miles, & I have my heart set on a 2012 Cadillac CTS coupe...actually drove it today...it is just
exquisite....I really don't like trucks, or sedans, & Cadillac finally brought out a 2-door
coupe again a couple of years ago...so its time for me to trade in my Jag...

By the way I also drove the 2012 Cadillac SRX, a crossover & that is a really pretty vehicle, I would love to have them both, but I have too many cars already & I am at heart a 'car' person...not a 'truck' person....

Carol said...

I've had to have a truck ever since I moved out to the woods. I still have all kinds of things to haul but not as much as I used to. I bought this last truck to pull the travel trailer I had before I bought the camp. I still have my other boats to haul and a utility trailer.

As long as I can keep this truck running, I can buy a car next. I've never really been into fine, fancy cars, I'm too cheap. I want something cheap to operate now.

Carol said...

Well, Chaz lives to dance again. I'm sorry but he has trouble just walking out there and I don't find him particularly entertaining in any way like Carson is.

Carol said...

Well, it's between Nancy, Rob and Chynna for bottom three. Hmmmm, who would I prefer to go???? Rob...never really cared for him. Not a Kardasian fan.

Carol said...

Well, I wasn't a fan of tonight's loser either.

Anonymous said...

Interesting so they have now eliminated two of the best women...

you do know that this is becoming pretty farcical...I have so little connection to any of them, it has gone steadily downhill....

& again the fact that Chaz remains is just
a big joke...& yes Carson is at least entertaining...I believe my premise about not
offending anyone is becoming more obvious....

Is it to soon to say DWTS has jumped the shark...

jan said...

Coreen, so happy you are enjoying the rainbows. We seldom get them here. I sat on my porch as long as it lasted and took many pictures. Isn't it funny how the most beautiful scenes can take place right out one's door or window. I have enjoyed so many of your's and Carol's beautiful scenic pictures in and around your homes.

Carol said...

I haven't been watching DWTS that long..a couple of years now.. and this has been the least interesting season that I have seen. It has gone downhill since I've been watching. Seems I'm only still watching it just to bitch about how bad it is. I do like to bitch.

I think they must be having trouble finding people who will participate and after this season they may have room for the three of us. I'm sure we could be just as entertaining.

Carol said...

Did y'all see the new research study results on older women and the use of veta..vita..vegamins?

The lazy link:

http://yourlife.usatoday.com/health/medical/womenshealth/story/2011-10-10/Study-Vitamins-may-boost-death-risk-in-older-women/50722104/1

Carol said...

Does make me feel better about how often I forget to take any which is more often than not.

Carol said...

I've been concerned with iron supplements for a good while now. Years ago they did this study where they seemed to link younger women's lower cardiovascular risks with lower iron levels. The info disappeared really fast. I think that data worried the cardiovascular medicine industry. Much cheaper to cut your iron intake than get a stent or bypass or even cut down on those cardiac meds.

At the time..I really felt the info had a lot of validity.

jan said...

Carol. Wow that is a lot of money. But what can you do? It costs more to buy another one. Can you get a 2nd opinion?

jan said...

I agree, I think Lacey has put on some weight.

jan said...

I am the same way about cars Carol. I drive them until they die. I had a toyota pickup from 1981-1992 - then gave it to Steve - who then gave it to my oldest granddaughter. I have no idea how many miles it had on it. I think Terry finally sold it.

I have a Mercury villager van that is 1999. It has 183,000. on it. It is beginning to ride a little rough now. But I just had 4 new tires put on it and new brakes.

jan said...

I would have liked to see Chynna dance some more. She lost her confidence and it showed. We are a country who hates to see anyone lose their confidence. We tend to "kick" em when they are down. I do believe people voted for Chaz because of his mom. I am sure Nancy has her following too. I agree with Coreen, she does not have any likability factor.

jan said...

I saw that study about Iron too. I seldom eat red meat and never take vits with iron. no liver either.

jan said...

I drive into the poorer sections of the city and don't want to "stand" out in any way.

jan said...

Damnation! I have never been good about taking vitamins or calcium supplements. I just bought some "gummy" vitamins for adults and have been taking them regularly (about 3 weeks). Should I stop?

jan said...

I don't know - I sort of like this season's DWTS. I wish Hope could be more likeable. She could be a really good dancer. I think JR or Ricki Lake are the 2 to beat. Both are good dancers and both are likable.

Carol said...

Jan..you and I weren't so crazy about Chynna.. if you go back and look. I thought she was pretty..even sexy but she just swayed around..stuck her leg out here and there..wrapped around her partner but didn't do much dancing.

Last night they played some stuff from the beginning of the show where she was real confident that she could do very well. I think she couldn't fake it anymore in that last dance Monday..she had to do some dancing and she couldn't keep up.

Now..she was better than Chaz..well she looked better.. but we can be and are easily fooled by attractive looks and a nice body. When we think the chunky ones are doing well..they are most likely doing much better..ie Ricki.

Carol said...

I like Hope Jan. She is so good at being an athlete which dancing does require but in her sport..she doesn't have to be graceful just tough. She is making the transition.

Carol said...

I read on that Pure DWTS site that Derek dislocated his shoulder in practice. Not sure when. It could be stressful on those shoulder/arm tendons to toss a full figured woman around.

Don't know why they keep having all these heavy people on DWTS. They are going to tear up their prof dancers. Repairing those joints and tendons is traumatic and they will never be the same after.

jan said...

I heartily agree about the joints and tendons. Maybe you should write them and let them know this.

You are right about chynna. The only thing I remember about her in the early dances was that she could kick her legs pretty high and do the splits (I think that was her). I won't miss her. It is just that Chaz is so much worse. oh well! The best dancers are still here.

Derek is not that heavy to be heaving a hefty woman around. He is such a professional though. Said it before - he is my fav pro. I like Max much more than I used to - he is my 2nd fav male pro.

jan said...

A dislocated shoulder is a bad thing. Bill had one when we left Lake Chaz. He had surgery on it the next year. He has has 2 surgeries since both times to put in and then replace the ball joint. He has very limited movement in that joint now.

jan said...

He had to go to Kansas city for the second ball replacement. Not many surgeons do that.

Carol said...

Did Bill have a lot of steroid injections in that joint? Those can cause joint deterioration.

jan said...

No he didn't Carol.

Carol said...

Jan..I don't understand why the history of a dislocated shoulder could have led to having to have a total shoulder replacement..twice.

jan said...

Bill dislocated his shoulder in Lake Charles in his Jr year. When we moved to Montana, he dislocated it about 5-6 times over the course of his senior year in HS and the summer before he started college. We kept having to take him to the ER to get it put back in place. Finally, his doc said he should have surgery. So in the summer before he started college he had surgery on the shoulder in Montana. It did ok for about 20 years and then he started having pain in the shoulder - He was going to an orthopedic specialist here in Albuq. The orthopedic guy said that 1st surgery had not been a good surgery - and I think he had some arthritis in it too - at any rate - an orthopedic surgeon here did the first joint replacement. Then about 10 years later he was having pain again and the orthopedic specialist sent him to Kansas City for evaluation and they did a 2nd joint replacement there about 10 years ago. That is about all I know.

jan said...

Woke up in a lot of pain in my right shoulder this morning. It feels fine during the day, but wakes me up at night in pain. I am very careful with it in the daytime - not carrying heavy stuff and doing as much with my left arm as possible. I am going to try sleeping in a different bed tonight.

jan said...

Carol, I posted something earlier and it has disappeared.

Bill DL the shoulder 5-6 times before he started college and a doc in Montana recommended surgery to fix it - so did that when he was 18. About 10-15 years later (cannot remember for sure, he was having a lot of pain arthritis/bone spurs - and an orthopedic surgeon put in the artificial joint. About 10 years after that was having problems with the artificial joint and had to be replaced. He had to go to Kansas City for that one. Still not real good.

Carol said...

It seems that with so many of the orthopedic surgeries, people don't seem to feel any better afterward. They are so expensive. Our ortho surgeons have homes that cover a city block and their offices are always packed but still the patients don't seem to feel better afterward.

Carol said...

I saw Chynna on a couple of programs this week, since she lost on DWTS. I still don't care for her or her dancing. I didn't think she could dance from the get go. Maybe pole dance but not ballroom dance. She definitely was better than Chaz.

She seems aggravated that she lost. That little comment they showed this week from early this season showed her saying she thought the dancing would be easy and she would do well. Did you catch that on the show Monday night?

Today, she and her partner were on the View and they did the dance she screwed up Monday. She did it right but Sis and I didn't think it looked any better. I don't think she was half as good as Kristin was and she was booted out a week earlier.

I have the next 4 days off and really glad. Three days at work were enough. My crew and I are all getting a little fed up with things around the joint and it's not our patients.

Interesting Carol, it seems most docs live pretty well. We had a doc in the small northeast town where we lived AR just before coming here. His wife was the church secy and he was the treasurer. They were just like most everyone else. Had a nice home but not gargantuous and showy. Of all the docs I have every known he was one of the best. He started a clinic for people who did not have insurance or medicare in that area. He reminded me of the old time country docs. As my dad would have said, "he was the salt of the earth."

I am happy you have some time off Carol.

Just read this on Huff Post. Like this guy and his thoughts..whoever he is. Copy and paste:

Remember the activism of the 60s? Gosh..it's as bad or worse now as it was then. Young people in other countries..along with the old..are willing to give their lives to push for changes/improvements and I kept wondering why no one here seemed to care what is happening.

I'm glad to see young people..and I assume some of these people are young..getting off their couches and away from their video games to try to change the direction of this country. And the guy who wrote the article offers good advice for them.

A beautiful day here in NM. Sunshine and in the 70's. I am cooking a pork roast and sweet potatos. Bill, wife-Kathy and son-Cory are coming for dinner. Kathy bringing salad and I am fixing banana pudding for dessert. I have not done much else today other than straightening the house- Not my week for the girls that clean.

Hope you all are having fun today.

That sounds nice Jan. I'm sure you guys had a nice time.

The weather here has been nice also. Kinda warm during the afternoon and cool in the morning. Really..perfect. Sis has been getting spoiled here since her weather is cold and wet most all the time. They used to have pretty nice summers..like the weather is here..right now.. but they haven't had much of that.

Our visit has been mainly centered around food. We have eaten well..either in or out. Last night we went out for Chinese.

And as for movies..we rented Bridesmaids..we both wanted to see it. Redbox doesn't get it until it's been out for a couple of weeks. It will be there the day sis leaves so we went to Blockbuster where they charge $2.99. I hadn't been there is so long that I didn't even have my card anymore. That was OK since they can pull up my info from my name.

Come to find out I had a $5 credit on my BB account so that movie was free..which was too much to pay for that movie. It was awful. We both disliked it..almost turned it off but we were both curious to see if it would ever get any better. It had such great reviews. What gives?

There were two kinda funny places..one when they all got food poisoning in the bridal gown shop and the other involved when two of the girls were trying to get this cop's attention. The cop was the only person in the show who was a decent character..most of the rest were gross..unlikable people.

Anyone here see it?

I think I told you we went to see the Help. We both liked that movie and yesterday we went to the theater to see The Big Year. It just started but didn't have great reviews. We both liked it also.

It was an enjoyable movie but I think you might need to like birds. These three guys..Steve Martin..Jack Black..Owen Wilson.. are each competing in a bird sighting competition to see who can see the most bird species in a year. They are all interesting characters and the scenery is nice.

we went to see Bridesmaids and enjoyed it in the theatre. It is sort of silly but it was entertaining. The Help is a great movie. We taped and watched a movie on TV the other night. The name of it was "The Four Feathers" starring Heath Ledger and Kate Hudson. It took place in 1800 England and The Sudan. It was a soldier movie with some gruesome parts but one of the best movies I have seen. It was made in 2002.

I want to see The Big Year. If not the theater then will rent it.
