Just another way to outsource a job people

Last night I mentioned that I saw this story on the local news about this new therapy in Europe somewhere. They use these little carp, minnow size, to remove dead skin. A lady was sitting with her legs in a large bath filled with these little carp. They were feeding on her dead skin. I bet that tickles.

I have heard of using leeches to remove small hematomas and maggots to debride wounds but using the little carp to remove dead skin is a new one.

Well I had time to sleep on that whole carp idea. That is really a bunch of BS people. A washcloth and some elbow grease will remove dead skin. They've just found another way to outsource a job. Of course, those little carp might need the work.

Now I want to say that the leeches and the maggots were good ideas even though a tad on the gross side. The maggots had a really dirty job. They have to climb down in a nasty stinky rotten wound, eat out all the bad tissue and leave the nice pink stuff behind. Just like with those illegal immigrants, who are they going to find to do that job.

The leeches were also worth the weight of their little slimy black bodies. They actually injected an anticoagulant, I think maybe even a little pain killer, and suck old blood out from under the skin. They've been used to get rid of a black eye before a wedding and years ago, I read where they were used to remove small hematomas after fine hand surgery, making healing much better.

Those carp..... that's going way too far. I tell ya, they’re never going to stop coming up with ways to outsource jobs.

Good morning. If ya had an idea for a new post, don't let this one stop you.

Carol said...

Just so I don't scare ya, the leeches and the maggots had to go back to their old jobs, at least they had to here in the US.

Carol said...

Sorry Coreen, for gagging you so early in the morning. Nothing like a good gag, huh?

Coreen said...

Have to say, well, just really cannot add one thing to this topic...

Did see a TV ad for a new show on I think the History channel...Swamp People....later this August...apparently about some residents of LA, cajuns, ad showed them catching/hunting alligators somewhere...

Seems that all these 'reality' shows are very
inexpensive to make & attract enough of an audience to make them profitable with minium
costs...

Carol said...

Hmmmm Coreen, I'll just have to check that out. I'm sure I could come up with an idea for how I can make some extra cash.

Carol said...

OK Coreen, you can be my agent and we can do a reality show about the Houseboat People on my river. I'm sure they can use some cash also.

We have houseboat Brenda, she's really neat. And there's houseboat Joey, who rode his houseboat thru hurricane Rita while his girlfriend and dog slept thru it. I got some good material here.

Carol said...

Now I can get that Iphone 4 that I'm hankering for but don't need. It does video recording.

And we can pick from a variety of beer companies to sponsor our series. I'm sure my houseboat people would love that also, as long as they can get some free samples.

Carol said...

And we have our own river band for background music. They know how to play "Proud Mary" and "Born on the Bayou" from Creedence.

Born on the Bayou

Proud Mary

They can even play from a pontoon boat!

Carol said...

And I got a list of other interesting characters. There is no end to the list of interesting characters out here.

Carol said...

Unfortunately, Mr and Ms Mallard are no longer available....sniff, sniff

Carol said...

I'm not kiddin Coreen. We could kick Snooky in the butt with our show.

Coreen said...

Carol, sounds like a plan!!!...

In the tv ad, the background song was credence's born on the bayou....

So far I may be the only person who has not
watched 'jersey shore or any of the housewives
of reality shows...but I do marvel at both
pawn stars & american pickers...it is amazing what stuff people have accumulated & what they are willing to sell....

I also try to watch top chef (imagine that since I can not cook at all, nor do I desire to
do so)....& I marvel & shake my head at the amazing race, can not imagine how they do the things they have to at each location....

Carol said...

I've never seen Jersey Shore either but I still know we can kick Snooky's ass anyway.

Carol said...

I've already got a good bit of the series worked out in my head. Better not let me sleep on it.

But ya better hurry Coreen, I don't think the life expectancy out here is very long. They don't believe in vitamins and one of my RR friends said when food is past the expiration date listed on the label, it just means that it is no long health food.

Carol said...

Thanks for that link Jan. I also love that song!

Coreen said...

Ok, here's the info on the 'swamp people'

Somewhere called the 'atchafalaya swamp'...

Carol, you know there would be no way in the
world I could ever, ever be anywhere near
a place like this...

You will have to watch it, since you know I
won't be watching them catch allis, turtles, nutria, & you know what else....
Swamp People August 22, 10 pm History Channel

jan said...

I have never watched Jersey Shore either.

jan said...

There may come a time when we will go back to using leeches and maggots - since the dawn of drug resistant antibiotics. I predict we will be getting more and more of these super bugs that are resistant to antibiotics.

jan said...

Carol, you could call your reality show "River Rats" or the name of your blog.

jan said...

What network is Jersey Shore on? or is it a regional or local show?

Coreen said...

There's a slew of these reality shows...ice road truckers, ax men,the deadliest catch
none of which I have seen....seems the underlying thread of these type shows is the
sense of danger in the daily lives of these
people..

While the shows like jersey shore, housewives
is more a voyeur type where you get to watch
the daily disasters that befall the participants....the more personal crisis the
better for ratings....

What if any reality shows do you guys watch....

Coreen said...

jersey shores - mtv...no wonder I never saw it...& pretty sure mtv had the first reality show with people living in a house in some
city...but can't remember what it was called...

Coreen said...

Back to reality though...a more disturbing issue that is lurking & will affect everyone in the not to distant future...whether you are
or will have a govt pension or are a taxypayer who will be asked to make up the shortfall in public pension plans across the country...

And there is no good answser to this dilemma...
but it is happening state by state....

Battle looms over huge costs of public pensions

Carol said...

That's why we need a plan B Coreen. Pensions down the drain.

All you have to do is pitch the idea and draw up the contracts. You can send your assistant, Solar, down to do the leg work.

Carol said...

And ya know who has our pension money people....Wallstreet guys, Hedge fund guys, banksters, and our politicians who set it up and allowed it all.

Coreen said...

Yes, the wall street masters of the universe
certainly have destroyed the private pensions
like mine & I suspect yours Carol...we have to
try to re-accumulate some of what we paid in
ourselves & hope that some how it will balance
out & also hope that ss will be intact as well.

those on public pensions like teachers, state,
local govt workers are in many cases in pension
funds that were not funded or underfunded &
add to the fact that they usually were able
to retire much earlier than most of us to collect, & with life expectancies going up for
all (though your quality of life may not be)
leaves the states with not enough money to continue to pay those pension amounts as a result of the loss of income from taxes, bad
investments, lack of funding the pensions in the past, all leaving the taxpayer...again people like you & me...to make up the ever
increasing shortfall...while we can't make
up our own shortfall....that is the crisis
that is going to continue....

the idea of class warfare occurs when those that are still working, trying to take care of
themselves & their own...& make up their losses...are being told they must pay more taxes to pay the retirment & benefits of public
sector workers who have over the recent past
managed to earn more, get more paid for benefits/retirements than the private sector
can pay...

don't know how this turns out...

Carol said...

"The haves are retirees who were once state or municipal workers"

They are calling those low paid municipal workers "the haves". They work in low paying jobs all their lives and hope to retire with a little money and they are "the haves"?? Wait a big minute!

In order to teach at a State University, I made about 1/4 of what I could have made in the private sector. It was missionary work people!

Carol said...

I had to work two other part time jobs the entire time I taught just so I could afford to do it.

Carol said...

Now, if you had a husband with a good job, the pay was a nice little supplement. I didn't!

Carol said...

I'm paying out the ass for SS and for every dollar I get in teacher's retirement, they are going to take a dollar of my SS!

Carol said...

Just tell me about fair!

Carol said...

And those rich bastards have probably already taken both of those programs!

Coreen said...

And that Carol is the dilemma...those have been
promised/contracted benefits...but the reality
is the money is not there now & in the future...so who has to pay to cover all this...

again no good answer...just look at the author's blog with all the various questions
& the comments section...

no one has a good answer how to solve this
looming crisis..... this is real & it affects
everyone...
Who shoul pay for the Trillion $$$ pension gap

Carol said...

Hey, our government already spent our tax dollars paying off the bastards who did this too us. Get that money back!!! Anything still needed can be taken out of the paychecks of the government officials who were on duty when we got this screwing. I think they can afford it.

Carol said...

But that will never happen because of the Golden Rule.....and that is, the guys who stole our gold, make the rules.

Carol said...

Because I was busy with chores, I missed Christiane's show again. Anyone see it? What did you think? She got some bad reviews last week. I like Christiane.

Carol said...

Jan, I had to go and listen to K D Lang again to get my center back again.

Carol said...

Talking or thinking about money just depresses me.

Carol said...

Jan, I prefer to watch/hear the Canadian Tenors singing Hallelujah. They provide some great eye candy!

Carol said...

The Canadian Tenors - Hallelujah

Carol said...

And then Celine Dion surprises them on that video.

Carol said...

Made me cry.

jan said...

Coreen and Carol, I don't know the answers to those questions about public pensions. I definitely will not watch the reality shows you are talking about. There are a few things on TV that are entertaining. Some days I would like to kick the TV out.

I stay pretty busy most of the time and have watched a lot less TV this summer. Going to try and keep that up. I don't know if I want to get involved in some of TV shows this fall.

jan said...

I like the Canadian Tenors too. Someone had sent the k.d.lang rendition and I love her voice.

This morning, inbetween chores, I cooked up some of my river famous BBQ sauce. It's still simmering. I've been trying to decide if I wanted to stir up a spontaneous BBQ today with all that, on sale, meat I filled my freezer with. I think I've decided that I'm too spontaneously lazy today. The BBQ sauce freezes very well also.

If you haven't looked at the Scottie Man's newest blog posting today, you're in for a treat. There is something quite exquisite there.

After returning Friday evening from Colorado, we are just now beginning to feel our loss of Meg. We went to the vet's and made our arrangements for her remains. They will be returned to us in a traditional box with a Scottie figurine that we chose and a plaque engraved with he name and dates. There will be a clay imprint of her paw made, as well as a lock of her fur taken and placed in a velvet bag. We already received the book "Dog Heaven" in which all the staff and vets at the clinic inscribed their sympathies and fond memories of Meg. The most repeated word used to describe her was "sweet." Meg had many health challenges in her life, but never lost the sweetness of her disposition.

Meg's first name in life was "Angel" that was given to her at birth by her breeder. We may have changed her name, but she always stayed an angel.

jan said...

Ivy, what a lovely tribute to your angel, Meg. What wonderful Vet friends you have. Returning home after being away was difficult for us too. My thoughts are with you today.

I am baking John a cake. His birthday is tuesday. We are having family over tonight for dinner.

I began preparing John's cake while he was in church. It did not go well. I made the cake from scratch - his favorite - coke cake. I opened a new can of cocoa. It had one of those tabs you pull that releases a vacuum seal. When the seal broke, cocoa went "whoosh" all over my face and top of my hair and all over the cabinet. Had to clean me and the cabinet.
I have 2 ovens a shallow top and deeper bottom oven. while mixing the cake I turned on the top oven- meaning to turn on the bottom. I realized my mistake when I opened the bottom oven and it was cool. I turned off the top oven and turned on the bottom, forgetting I had put the cake in the bottom oven. A few minutes later I realized my error, but too late. the bottom of the cake has cooked real fast. I just decided to leave the cake in the oven. We will see how it turns out. I will probably buy a cake. Dont have the energy to make another.

Carol said...

Oh Ivy, that was sweet. I told ya that Meg was your angel now but I didn't know her given name was Angel. She was already prepared.

Carol said...

Jan, that's awful. I guess that goes back to that saying....."no good deed will go unpunished". It was the thought that counts.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
Thanks for your kind words. I know you are still feeling your own loss.

Happy Birthday to John. Your Coke Cake sounds intriguing. I think Hubs might enjoy that. Would you mind posting or linking the recipe? Don't you think John will get a laugh out of the story of your baking adventures?

Last Sunday, we celebrated my mother's 80th birthday (a few weeks early). It was a surprise that we staged as a small dinner, but was in reality, a gathering of her children, and most of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was bedlam, but she was thrilled. She had insisted on baking a cheesecake. Not wanting to throw the surprise, my sister-in-law said okay and, in fact, would be counting on it for the dessert. As it turned out, Mom inadvertently made her own birthday cake! To her, that was the funniest part of the surprise. lol

I was napping until the joint called. They always know when I'm napping, on the pot or in the shower. Hah, I haven't taken my shower yet today. I showed them.

I had an interesting case this last week and this is one reason I don't really ever take a vacation.

This guy came in Wed afternoon complaining of pain in one of his upper arms. He had big biceps but one was a little bigger than the other, appeared to be swollen. I asked him what kind of exercising he was doing. He said working out with a mop handle and two buckets. That is not allowed but they manage to find a way. He said he only did 7 reps of 11 bicep curls. I bet that wasn't the half of it or that he had an inmate standing in each bucket when he did them.

Inmates are notorious for doing lots of intense exercises and they are trying to show off for each other. I asked if he felt anything snap, crackle or pop. He said no. I told him to ice it, rest it and I would draw a lab on him in the AM. It was at the end of the day.

They drew a CPK, it's an enzyme that is released if there is any kind of muscle damage. It was drawn the next morning. That day was very busy and I never heard about the results but figured the lab would have called if it were really high. They call in any critical levels. I thought about it at about 8p that night.

Friday, on my vac day, I called early to get the results of that lab from the jail and it had never been sent over. I called the lab and his value was over 50,000. Normal is less than 250. No one from the lab called. I freaked and called the jail to send him to the ER.

That much muscle damage can cause Rhabdomyolysis, and can cause kidney failure, liver failure and/or another serious blood disorder. Years ago I watched this patient die the most horrible death I've ever seen from all three after rhabdomyolysis was induced by cocaine use.

He's still in the hospital getting high doses of IV fluids to flush his kidneys. I hope we saved them. Probably did. If I would have just taken off without continuing to worry about all my peeps ....I hate to even think about it.

Carol said...

Ivy, that is a beautiful piece of stained glass that Burnsie's dad had done. I shiver to think that I would ever have to be around something like that. It would probably be in a million pieces if I got close to it.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
I thought the stained glass angel was stunningly beautiful. And synchronistic...angels are appearing to me everywhere, it seems. Some people have remarked to me how odd it is for a Jewish person to have an "angel attachment," that they are a Christian symbol. I say to them, not odd at all...Angels are a Hebrew original.

It is noteworthy to me that in the wake of his loss, the Scottie Man is building something - a chapel - not tearing something down.

Ivy Green said...

Carol,
The Scottie Man's angel isn't a new piece, but something that had been "in the family" for 20 years. It's just that, right on schedule, it finally arrived home.

Ivy Green said...

Jan,
You are the closest one geographically to the Scottie Man's abode...you will have to go to the chapel for us when it's dedicated. I'm sure he will be inviting everyone in his community.

Carol said...

That would be sooo cool Jan. You could take pics and put up a blog post about the Scottieman and his pups. You could also send him a big Hi from all of us.

Carol said...

Do y'all remember when charting your biorhythms was popular? I was thinking about biorhythms when Jan told us about her cake baking incident.

Another friend was telling me earlier about this friend of hers who destroyed 4 different lawnmowers he tried to use to mow another guy's yard. I thought that maybe both, Jan and that guy had their biorhythms at a critical level.

A minute ago I was talking to the same friend and asked when was her lawnmower destroying friend's birthday. She said early April. So is your's Jan. I pulled up his biorhythms and his was, physically, at a critical level. I wonder what your's was Jan??

I checked mine and my physical biorhythm was also deep in the negative. I did dump a good bit of my BBQ sauce on the counter today when I was trying to put it up. If I had known ahead of time that my physical rhythm was low today, I would have also laid low today.

calculate your biorhythms

jan said...

Ivy, I would love to go to the Scottie castle when dedicated. Can you get me info as to address and when this event is to take place?

Carol, things turned out well after all. The cake fell very flat so instead of frosting it, I made a hot fudge sauce and put ice cream over the cake and then the fudge sauce. I watched and everyone cleaned up their cake and ice cream so I guess it turned out ok after all.

I bought 3 chickens at Costco - they were great. I sliced them all up and put in a big pan and in warm oven until dinner. I found a recipe for mashed potatoes that you make ahead of time - put some cheese over them and bake before serving. It calls for sour cream and cream cheese too. they were a big hit. I also fixed corn on the cob. Corn has been great this summer. For appetizers, I cut up red and yellow bell peppers and had baby carrots and pieces of broccoli with a dip. It was a nice evening. Everyone ate well and talked and laughed a lot. I have finished cleaning the kitchen.

Ivy, Here is the coca cola cake

2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 cup butter
2-3 Tbls hersheys cocoa (I used kroger)
1 1/2 cup small marshmallows
1 cup coca cola
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 eggs beaten
1 tsp soda
1 tsp vanilla

Combine flour & sugar & soda and set aside. Heat butter, cocoa, marshmallows & coca cola until marshmallows melt. Pour over flour mixture and mix thoroughly. Beat together buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla. Add to flour mixture and mix well. This will be a thin batter. Bake in a greased and floured 9X13" pan at 350 for 30-35 min. Put icing on cake while hot.

Coca Cola icing
1/2 cup butter
2 Tbls cocoa
6 Tbls coca cola
1 lb powdered sugar
1 cup pecans, chopped and toasted

Combine butter, cocoa & coke; heat to boiling. Pour over powd sugar and beat well. Spread over hot cake. Sprinkle pecans over top. Serve hot

I usually serve it cold. It is very good. It is not low fat!

Chloe, I tried the potato thing today where you score and boil the potatoes. The skins did not come off as easy as on the video, but they were able to be peeled off with my fingers pretty easy. I kept the bowl of ice water in the sink and had to dunk the potato often while getting the skin off. It was pretty easy. I will use it again. It is the best method I have found for peeling whole potatoes after they are boiled that I have found. Thanks again for posting that link. I boiled 7 big potatoes and the ice water stayed cold.

jan said...

Carol, thanks for the link to the video of Celine Dion and the Canadian tenors. I saw the Oprah show that day and I cried too.

My bio-rhythms are probably not too good now. I have had some back pain now for 2 weeks. I am not sewing at all as it aggravates it. I am doing a lot of walking and try to get in the pool most days. The water is a big help.

Carol said...

Jan, your dinner sounded wonderful. Maybe your biorhythms were OK afterall.

I remember back when those biorhythms were popular, it was back in the 70s. That was when you were around here. I remember that I even bought one of those little calculators. I just loved any reason to buy some little gadget.

I just went to Wiki to read and they called it a pseudoscience based on numerology. It would be more interesting to check your predicted rhythm after your day was over just to see how accurate it was. I'm afraid if you checked it ahead of time, it might be too suggestive. I do feel there are certain times when I'm all thumbs or emotionally more vulnerable. Is it on a rhythm??? Don't know.

Yesterday evening, I went to visit my RR friends. One of my friends had gone shopping at one of our Walmarts here in town. When she was checking out, her checker, out of the blue, started telling her about what would happen if he shot someone in the head. He went on and on about it.

She heard a bit of some conversation he had with the lady ahead of her but not enough to hear what he said. She later ran into that lady and found out he was asking a question about stuffing someone in a body bag. When she got home she called Walmart to warn them that one of their checkers may have forgotten to take his meds that day. Someone had already reported him.

Just recently there was some young man shot in the head, a little ways down the road. Also the young man killed had been to a Walmart, in that area, right before he died. They are investigating it as a murder.

Carol said...

Coreen, I went to your link to that Swamp People show. Those dudes look pretty serious. None of my RR, houseboat, people are that bulked up.

The RR friend I visited yesterday is one of the guys in the river band. I told him to make sure to stay in practice, just in case we can get him an extra gig. He said they just got a new member.

Carol said...

I did set my Iphone alarm to remind me of the Swamp people program. It does look interesting. I just love the Atchafalaya Swamp.

Speaking of Iphone, I've been looking at all the comparisons of Iphone 4 to all the other new smartphones and Iphone still beats them all, in almost all areas. I'm trying hard to hold off getting one. Mainly because I have to start over refilling it with all my stuff.

Carol, I don't even look at my horoscope any longer. Each day I simply think, "well there will be some things that happen that are good and maybe some things will not be good, but I will just appreciate the good things and deal with the other stuff." It is all just life experience. I do try to be in less of a hurry and try harder to smile at people, especially those in service jobs. Turning 60 was when I began to realize that I may not be able to change some things that happen to me, but I can change my attitude towards them. I am not always able to adjust my attitude, but I try.

jan said...

Hi Solar, hugs to you too. Good to see you back. You have been gone too long. Here is a big smile for you today :o))

jan said...

I am off to tackle some of the tasks on my list I just made.

Anonymous said...

Hi everybody! Hope everyone had a great weekend. I'm only part way caught up, and may have to come back later to finish.

Jan, I tried the potato peeling trick too, but it didn't come off the way her's did. I wonder how many she tried before she got one that did it just right. But, like you, it still seemed to save a lot of work, because it was so easy to get the peel off at that point. Easier to cut them up (without so much muscle power) too, to finish boiling them. I'll do it the same way next time - the mashed potatoes came out great. Sounds like your mash potatoes did too. Hope John had fun at his party, and glad to hear the meal came out so well.

And this Jan: "I may not be able to change some things that happen to me, but I can change my attitude towards them."

Well said! That's the only 'real' control we have. We can't usually change things, but we can change our mind.

Anonymous said...

I need to make a list too. Maybe then I'll get to some of the things I've been putting off.

.... I need to take some baby steps.

jan said...

Hi Chloe, good to hear from you. Glad to hear your mashed potatoes turned out good too.

That potato peeling idea will be good for both mashed potatoes and for potato salad. Yesterday I mashed the potatoes with some sour cream and cream cheese and some milk to soften them up a bit. I put in a couple of pats of butter and salt and pepper to taste. I put this in a greased dish and a little grated cheddar cheese on top. I was able to make this early in the day and then baked it for about 40 min at 350 before company. It was a big hit and I could make it ahead of time. It was pretty tasty.

John had a good time at his b'day dinner. He said he did not really wanting anything special for his b'day but my family celebrates every b'day. they expected it. John says he does not want one but every year, he seems to really enjoy it.

Anonymous said...

Your party sounds great Jan. I'm sure John would feel disappointed if you didn't celebrate his birthday every year, no matter what he says. :)

I thought your idea of getting the chickens at Costco was a great idea too. Sounds like you had everything organized, so you had some time to enjoy the get together too.

... if anyone listens to that Bill Murray/Richard Dreyfus baby steps clip - make sure you follow it to the very end. That's when Bill Murray expresses so well how I feel sometimes. LOL.

... an excellent idea you had for saving that cakes life Jan.

When we go to Sweet Tomatoes (do you guys have those too), I always enjoy the chocolate cupcake at the end with hot chocolate and caramel sauce poured over it at the end. I think that's the main reason I go there.

There I go again making myself hungry. Sweet Tomatoes it is - this coming weekend. I just decided that.

Anonymous said...

... Em loves the place too. She likes the veggies and soups a lot, and a little ice cream at the end.

jan said...

I did enjoy the party Chloe. I thought and planned for a couple of days how to have a good meal that did not bust my budget and have fun at the party too. I have found that a good plan saves a lot of work and stress.

Thanks for posting the clip of What about Bob. That was a great movie. I enjoyed watching the clip. I want to rent it and see it again. Bill Murray played that part so well. So did the other guy - name????

I remember in one of my psych courses, the prof said - and this is absolutely not politically correct - "People who are psychotic drive themselves crazy and people who are neurotic drive those around them crazy." I think that is illustrated in the movie "what....Bob"

jan said...

Sweet Tomatoes is our 2nd most attended place to eat.

Chloe, are you talking about his scream in the elevator. I identify LOL

I hate to throw anything out Chloe. Someone was talking the other day about Julia Child's cooking show on TV and that every so often she would have a "failure" in her cooking - on TV. They mentioned that one time her cake fell apart - and she said - " ...and when this happens one can make a trifle" and she proceeded to tear up the cake and put fruits and pudding in with the cake. I thought of that when my cake was a mess and I thought "What would Julia do?" hee hee

jan said...

Richard Dreyfus - thats him. Forgot his name. I forget a lot of names lately.

jan said...

Good visiting with you Chloe. I am off to do something I can cross off my list. Doesn't take much to make me happy these days.

Anonymous said...

Yes Jan, the scream is what made me laugh - how often have I felt like that!

Anonymous said...

You're so right about how important the planning is.

I learned more about Julia Child during that movie: 'Julie and Julia', than I ever knew before. She was so funny. (I hate to waste too.)

"People who are psychotic drive themselves crazy and people who are neurotic drive those around them crazy."

.... LOL funny Jan - and may be fairly true. What a great teacher.

Testing...blogger on the blink again. I just posted a link to that live owl steaming video and even used it to check to see if it worked and then it disappeared.

jan said...

Carol, I am getting the blog.

Carol said...

Jan, it's something I posted that disappeared.

Carol said...

I posted it again.

Carol said...

I saw the story about Molly the Barn owl on NBC Nightly News. I found the link and posted it once and it disappeared. I post the link again. It's still there for now.

Carol said...

Oops, it's gone again. I guess Molly doesn't want any voyeurs. Weird. Everything else is here but the two links I posted.

Carol said...

Blogger must be censoring anything with a link in it.

Carol said...

If Blogger wants to make me think I'm nuts, they are way too late.

Carol said...

You disappeared also Coreen. I'll find you Coreen. Hold on....

Carol said...

Coreen, I did see your post and link and even clicked on it. When I got back, it was gone.

Coreen said...

Yes, Carol, it was there, I even went & saw
the live video feed, then I left the blog &
now I come back & the enitre post has vanished...

Coreen said...

I'm wondering, could the live video link have
something built into it so you can not re-post
it elsewhere?...

Carol said...

I think Blogger is just being a bad boy tonight. Why do I know Blogger is a boy?? Cuz he's bad!

Carol said...

Coreen, if anyone wants to see Molly, they'll just have to go look for her. I'm watching her.

Carol said...

I'm kinda partial to my Barred owls. I think they're cuter.

Carol said...

The guys who has the owl box gives info on the owls every now and again. It's really interesting. People leave questions.

Carol said...

An owl like Molly can consume as many as 3000 rodents a year. Some cities are putting up owl boxes rather than using poisons for rodent control. (from owl man)

Carol said...

Over 250 channels to choose from and I'm watching owl tv and it's way more interesting.

Carol said...

Well, I see that our comments, those that included a hyperlink, did not come back Coreen. Someone may want to put up a test hyperlink to see if all hyperlinks are out or just that little owl video we tried to link. Who would want to pick on a little owl video??

There is a story on Huff Post, I won't link it, about two companies who are threatening to change the Internet as we know it. One, happens to be "the one" that manages our little site here. Again it seems to all be centered around the fact that those who have the gold, make the rules. First, they get ya where ya can't live without all this technology and then, bam, they start screwing with it.

Carol said...

Oh, the article indicates that this will require our government to protect us from all these shananagans. We're toast people!

I ran into the wall, with my coffee, this morning trying to negotiate a path I successfully take a hundred times a day. Dang, I shouldn't have looked at that biorhythm chart, where I saw that my physical rhythm was at rock bottom this week!

Carol said...

This is the link to the owl box without a hyperlink:

Oh, Molly's hub's name is McGee. She squawks and he brings in the food. Is that how it works Ivy?

Good morning folks. I am out on my front porch. A beautiful little red headed woodpecker was pecking on my tree here in front. I would have liked a pic but I was afraid if I moved I would scare him away. He tried several different parts of the tree.

Today is John's birthday. I will take him to our favorite New Mexican restaurant tonight for dinner. Like me, he is easy to please. He was born in Fort Smith Ar. in 1936. It was 113 degrees that day - the hottest day on record and it has never been broken. His poor mother.

I had a computer lesson yesterday. I spent too much time last night organizing my pictures into "events" wound up with a bad headache. I can't sit and look at the computer screen too long. I did figure out a lot of things on the computer myself however. I think being able to store and manage photographs on the computer is so amazing.

jan said...

I have been thinking about older people or anyone who may not be able to get out much that a computer is a wonderful thing for them.

Anonymous said...

I agree Jan. It's too bad so many people that are older never learned to enjoy a computer.

I think that woodpecker that was visiting you this morning is one I that I had stop by here early one morning a couple of weeks (or so) ago. The one I had was really big, with that beautiful bright red head. Was yours a big one?

Happy birthday John!!

- and how fortunate you two are to be going out for Mexican food tonight. Good choice!

I took a look at the weather in your area, and it looks awfully mild for this time of the year. You really do live in a nice climate there Jan. And no one John doesn't mind the heat - born in 113, with no air conditioning. Yikes! I'm sure they had fans in '36, didn't they. That's probably a really dumb question, and I think I have seen them in old movies from the 30's, but I'm not sure when fans started becoming wide spread. R

... ignore that last R - don't know where it came from.

I noticed my link from yesterday is gone too, the one with the baby steps clip - link, comment and all. Weird happening here.

"An owl like Molly can consume as many as 3000 rodents a year."

That's a LOT more than my cats can catch - although they do a good job keeping the barn rodent free.

I miss my owls though. Haven't heard them for the last few years.

jan said...

Chloe, I wish my sister would learn to use a computer. I suppose you never miss it if you have not had it.

jan said...

The woodpecker who visited here this morn was pretty small - so probably not same one. His head was definitely red and he had that pretty black and white body - sort of "tweedy" looking. He was pecking to beat the band. He was so small I would not know he was a woodpecker but he had a great "peck"

"3000 rodents a year" We need more owls.
