I had a sleepless night two nights ago. I was up gazing at the moon which created an eerie luminescence over the tree tops and sparkled on the surface of our lake. It took my breath away so much I was almost grateful for not being able to sleep. I found myself wondering what earlier people without all our scientific knowledge would have thought of such a sight.
You can take a canoe on it, but no power boats. We don't have a canoe. Two days before Christmas a lost canoe floated to our bank. Hubs hauled it out of the water. He sent an e-mail to all the neighbors, but no one responded. He sent another e-mail after New Years. One person called but it turned out not to be their boat. Another neighbor sent an email that he too had found a lost boat. Turned out he had the boat belonging to our caller. Hubs started to get attached to the canoe. I told him that wasn't a good idea. One day, I came home and found the boat was untied. I figured kids did it. But the next day, the canoe was gone. Either the kids took it, or it floated away on its own the same way it arrived, or the rightful owner finally came around. We never found out.
I had pics but they were in the fall. My computer died before I could get them posted. Now I'll have to get timely ones of spring scenes. We have Canada geese and a few mallards. No wood ducks. Coreen is the lucky one. We do have a resident kingfisher. He is fun to watch and hear as he dive-bombs into the water. Lots of turtles too.
I have the perfect boat for you. Now that I have my Bass boat and the pontoon, my porta-boat just lays in the grass like a big surfboard. The porta-bote can be a sailboat, a rowboat or you can put a little trolling motor or small gas motor on it. Ever seen one?
The thing about American Idol at this stage is every week someone "good" will be sent home. With only six contestants left (now five) every person deserves to win, but only one can. The good part (for us) is no one ever gets "sent home." Didn't you notice last week, all the contestants from this season were present. I think the producers learned after Kelly Clarkson to write something in to the contracts that to be a contestant, you must agree to appear on the show whenever and however we tell you for the rest of your life.
Yes, they even have a little sun shade that can attach to the porta-bote. You ought to see the other things people have designed for that boat. I was a member of the Yahoo porta-bote message board for a while. Think I still am and probably have thousands of emails waiting at my Yahoo mail.

There's a certain pain threshold the PT's haven't been able to push me beyond. They think with a little help, they might be able to. They want to do some "dry needling" as well, kinda like acupuncture, but she has to clear it with the doc.
I hated to see Siobhan leave tonight. I will miss her. I am losing interest in Idol. Now there is too much testosterone for me. Last season it finished with 2 guys. I think more women vote and they are voting for the guys.
Carol, I did watch Modern Family tonight. It was hilarious. I loved the movie scene. Reminded me of when I was a kid. I was like Manny - We had to leave a movie once b/c I could not handle the scary-gory part - the movie was King of the Khyber Rifles. I don't think my brother and sister ever forgave me. To this day I can't handle movies like that.
You are right Ivy, at this stage of Idol, they are all good. It seems like a few seasons ago, there was some gender equity and there was more even distribution of males and females up until closer to the end.

Colbert said something about signing the kid up right away. I forgot about that movie where she takes on that young guy who becomes the famous football player. Colbert has a segment about this guy from Oregon who is testing his freedom of free speech, actually his freedom to shoot the bird at the cops. He is testing it in court now.
Jan, I remember many, many moons ago, when I went out with Katie's brother and another couple. Actually it was the night when I came home from Alexandria, where dad was dying, because my Grampy, his father, had died. We were just sitting in the car somewhere talking. I had a couple of beers and am sure I was quite snockered. It didn't take much. A cop rode by and shined a light in the car and Katie's brother shot him the bird. He was arrested and mom had to go bail him out of jail. When we got home, we learned that dad had died also, which, if you remember, was a blessing. I was praying he would.
I'm not sure what came of Pat's charge. Shooting the bird to a cop is like waving a red flag at a restless bull.

Ivy, be careful with too much steroid in the joint. Docs love to do it because of the relief it yields but it is eventually absorbed systemically and can screw with your immune system. And it causes salt and water retention and the muchies. I've seen people who have lots of those injection blow up like a big balloon. Be cautious.
Also too much steroid in a joint make tendons brittle where they can snap like a dry twig. Then guess what, you need a tendon repair or joint replacment. Not a bad deal for ortho. Seen that happen more than once.
MG Carol, You're going to scare the hell out of Ivy about those steroid shots.
I know you're right, and you've seen these things happen, but this would only be her second shot (I think). Aren't those symptoms you're talking about usually for people who get the shots regularly over a period of time?
With Ivy going to physical therapy, and getting all the help she's getting, I can't imagine her doctor over doing it too much.

Chloe, I didn't think you were being harsh and my warning was actually pretty tempered. If you don't believe me just google, hazzards of cortisone. I've just seen so many problems with use of cortisone. I use it only when I feel it's benefits significantly outweigh the risks. It can be lifesaving in some situations.
I had a class under this pretty brilliant prof from UTMB. He was one of the sharpest profs I've ever had the pleasure to learn under. He really stressed the dangers.
Jan, that prof impressed me like Dr. Geddes, our pathophysiology prof at TWU, did. I used to test the depth of her brilliance. I did that by asking some really tough question to see just how good her understanding was of what she was teaching. That's probably why I tried to become as knowledgable as I could, when I taught. I knew I might have some punk student in my class wanting to do the same thing.
I don't know if that's just until they run out. I stocked up and I may go back and get the rest. I have done that before when I learned a favorite product was going obsolete.
The doc only gave me half-a-shot today. He was reluctant. The only reason I pushed for it was two PT's have said they think it might help me get over a hurdle that I'm not otherwise getting over.
The doc signed off on a request from my PT to apply "dry needles" to my shoulder muscles. He never heard of it before. But he said fine with him if I want to. My PT is trained in it...it's an acupuncture therapy that uses a different philosophy than ancient Chinese techniques.
Coreen, I recorded that Sunset Daze but haven't watched except a few minutes of it. It's that reality show about people over 50, you linked an article on. I was thinking about it and realized that we are pretty much a reality program made up of people over 50 and I bet we are pretty entertaining.

I started clearing some papers in my office today. This is the longest I have been in the same office. One good thing about moving is that I tend to clear out stuff. I have been known to be a little bit of a hoarder. At this time, I don't have room for it at home so I have to get rid of it. If I can't put it on a hard drive, it is going in the recycle bin. I have friends at work who are hoarders. my theory about nursing faculty and hoarding is that - the more education- the more one hoards. This does seem to play out in my building. The word out is these folks are pretty well known by the firemen who check out our offices every 6 months.
I'm with you Carol. I'd tune it - I find the crowd here interesting, and even entertaining too. But I'd have to record it and watch it in the morning, which is what I'll have to do tonight. That's what's nice about this place, you can read and enjoy it at your leisure.

My experience with my doctor today was another exercise in being your own best advocate. That's another story that I may have to wait to tell until I have some perspective (and serenity) about it. It just was a good thing I was able to anticipate and look out for myself. Otherwise, it may have been a waste of time.
Gratitude moment: during my hour-and-a-half wait, I saw two kids - and they WERE kids - with amputated legs. Neither one carried in their body-language the tell-tale signs of misery, but rather faith and fortitude.
This also from NYT tonight about some protesters who are against the Arizona immigration law, gathering at the Cubs/Diamondbacks game in Chicago....for the most part, sports fans don't want to be bothered with this stuff, they are there to see their team...
I wasn't impressed with what I saw and my friend was even less impressed. My friend thought she was a dork.

I think even the Universe is trying to give us some clues and having to take drastic steps to give them. This oil spill is a big clue also.
We are learning that there are at least two things that need to happen.
1. End too big to fail.
2. Need campaign finance reform.
We also need to keep in mind that neither political party has a corner on the market on sleaze. There are some good guys on both sides. We need to figure out who they are.
And Dylan pointed out that we just can't hate Wallstreet. We do need them. We need to direct our anger toward those that have allowed the environment that let Wallstreet and Banks screw us and then took our money to reward them for it. We all know who that is, our elected officials.

I was actually laughing when I wrote 'MG' - because those symptoms sounded so severe, I thought it might scare her - it would me.

Carol, I do remember when your dad died. I didn't remember about you going out with Katie's brother. LOL about "cops and birds" he- he. I remember Katie has a sis but did not remember she had a bro. Do you ever hear from Katie? I have lost touch with her. Wasn't Katie's sis a beauty queen and didn't she get hit on by the LA gov? I could have my details screwed up - not good with details.

Yep Jan, Katie had a brother. He was a hippy guy, unlike Katie and her sister. I didn't know about Katie's sister and the gov but if it was our infamous gov who is in the Federal pen right now, it could be true. He was quite the womanizer, or young womanizer.
I hope that oil spill doesn't affect me. I'm quite a few miles up river from the Gulf. It would have to affect a long distance before it gets to me.
Chloe, I didn't think you were being harsh and my warning was actually pretty tempered. If you don't believe me just google, hazzards of cortisone. I've just seen so many problems with use of cortisone. I use it only when I feel it's benefits significantly outweigh the risks. It can be lifesaving in some situations.
I had a class under this pretty brilliant prof from UTMB. He was one of the sharpest profs I've ever had the pleasure to learn under. He really stressed the dangers.
Jan, that prof impressed me like Dr. Geddes, our pathophysiology prof at TWU, did. I used to test the depth of her brilliance. I did that by asking some really tough question to see just how good her understanding was of what she was teaching. That's probably why I tried to become as knowledgable as I could, when I taught. I knew I might have some punk student in my class wanting to do the same thing.

The doc only gave me half-a-shot today. He was reluctant. The only reason I pushed for it was two PT's have said they think it might help me get over a hurdle that I'm not otherwise getting over.
The doc signed off on a request from my PT to apply "dry needles" to my shoulder muscles. He never heard of it before. But he said fine with him if I want to. My PT is trained in it...it's an acupuncture therapy that uses a different philosophy than ancient Chinese techniques.

Coreen, I recorded that Sunset Daze but haven't watched except a few minutes of it. It's that reality show about people over 50, you linked an article on. I was thinking about it and realized that we are pretty much a reality program made up of people over 50 and I bet we are pretty entertaining.

I started clearing some papers in my office today. This is the longest I have been in the same office. One good thing about moving is that I tend to clear out stuff. I have been known to be a little bit of a hoarder. At this time, I don't have room for it at home so I have to get rid of it. If I can't put it on a hard drive, it is going in the recycle bin. I have friends at work who are hoarders. my theory about nursing faculty and hoarding is that - the more education- the more one hoards. This does seem to play out in my building. The word out is these folks are pretty well known by the firemen who check out our offices every 6 months.
Well, I guess there's something wrong with me then because I find you all pretty entertaining and with where I work, I do know entertainment.
I'm with you Carol. I'd tune it - I find the crowd here interesting, and even entertaining too. But I'd have to record it and watch it in the morning, which is what I'll have to do tonight. That's what's nice about this place, you can read and enjoy it at your leisure.

One Woman's Take
My experience with my doctor today was another exercise in being your own best advocate. That's another story that I may have to wait to tell until I have some perspective (and serenity) about it. It just was a good thing I was able to anticipate and look out for myself. Otherwise, it may have been a waste of time.
Gratitude moment: during my hour-and-a-half wait, I saw two kids - and they WERE kids - with amputated legs. Neither one carried in their body-language the tell-tale signs of misery, but rather faith and fortitude.
This also from NYT tonight about some protesters who are against the Arizona immigration law, gathering at the Cubs/Diamondbacks game in Chicago....for the most part, sports fans don't want to be bothered with this stuff, they are there to
see their team...

I even think his wing is healing. He has been doing a little flying of late. May have gotten his girl back. Let that be a lesson to any men folk out there reading, you may not be the best looking duck in the pack or the most macho, but just keep trying and you may win the love of your life, at least until she lays her eggs.

I did just now read "one woman's take..." My biggest concern about the interview was that Oprah just gave the woman some credibility by merely sitting across from her and interviewing her. Oprah - Not a good idea!

Help me guys. We have to keep our eyes and ears open. It wouldn't be that difficult to confuse me.
I had a ponder this morning. What if the reason those SEC people were sitting around watching and downloading porn was because they knew they were not suppose to be watching anyone and they had to find something to do with their time. I'm sure some were shopping online and doing other things also.
We may have missed what was really important here. We focus on porn but I really don't think all those supervisors would have been so useless unless they knew that that was what was expected of them. They were just token regulators and knew it. They were being paid to do nothing, to look the other way. And maybe that is why they don't seen to be all that concerned with being exposed or getting fired because they may know enough to screw a lot of people. What do you think about that?
There are lots of clues here folkes. We have to keep from being confused by some of them.
I think even the Universe is trying to give us some clues and having to take drastic steps to give them. This oil spill is a big clue also.
We are learning that there are at least two things that need to happen.
1. End too big to fail.
2. Need campaign finance reform.
We also need to keep in mind that neither political party has a corner on the market on sleaze. There are some good guys on both sides. We need to figure out who they are.
And Dylan pointed out that we just can't hate Wallstreet. We do need them. We need to direct our anger toward those that have allowed the environment that let Wallstreet and Banks screw us and then took our money to reward them for it. We all know who that is, our elected officials.

governmental service...you often have to wonder
just what they are being paid to do....not all,
but government bureaucracy does seem to allow
for the type of behavior exposed at the SEC....
with little to no repurcusions....
And while both changing the too big too fail
mentatlity and campaign finance reform....noble
goals...not likely to happen in the forseeable future....
And yes, Rattigan's comment that Wall Street is
needed, is what I said the other day about how
ironic it is that those who created/caused the
meltdown are the very same that we need to
correct it....Doesn't leave much hope, just need to protect one's self as best you can....

money" last night said that Dodd's offering
is not really so bad for Wall Street, that it
was doable...in the end would not damage
