Cherry blossoms and Mallards arrive in Connecticut

Spring has truly arrived here in Connecticut....The last week or so, I was able to capture the beauty of cherry blossom trees that bloomed in my neighborhood....This is St. Theresa's catholic church in Trumbull & some of the streets I travel on the way to my office....

Before the cherry blossoms, there were the snow mountain and weeping cherry trees and.... the mallards came back to Connecticut...each spring, they arrive in April and hang around the wetlands for awhile...

The mallards seem to know that it is dinnertime
at Coreen's place.....and they are always welcome, along with squirrels, and any other furry or feathered friends that stop by....if you look close you can see our Woody the Woodpecker on the weeping cherry tree & in the grass alongside of the mallards....

UN-BE-LIEVABLY beautiful Coreen!!
I think that very cold winter is what makes it such a beautiful Spring in some places. I am so glad you're sharing Connecticut with us!

Jan, I'm so glad your grand kids weren't injured in that car accident. The timing was bizarre, and it's so good for them that you all were all able to get there so quickly.

I saw your comment on the tornado from last night, which sent me searching for more information on it. What a horrible disaster. A ran across some pretty amazing stories of survival.

Carol, your C2C sounds like such a better way to learn and get information, than anything I've ever seen on TV. Keep it coming, I'm already learning things with you telling us about what you're learning.

... and I'm glad to hear that bad weather didn't affect you Ivy.

Thought a glimpse of the glory of spring would
be appropriate today...it's a rainy day, but
that's a good thing, since we needed some rain here...as you can see, even in CT we have
some beautiful scenery...I do love spring,
the colors that start with Ivy's favorite, yellow forsythias and now the pinks are everywhere...I am hoping to get some dogwood
pics this week, but I think everything has
popped early as a result of the week we had the
90 degrees just after Easter, but I will take
a ride & see what I can see....

The mallards stay here for a few weeks only,
then they are gone...not sure if they go further north, but they do arrive every April,
not enough water for them to stay at my house,
the wetlands dry up so they can only swim around up & down alongside the driveway for a
short time....but they can be sure they will
get plenty to eat.....

Beautiful post Coreen. Great pics. Hey, I think I know one of those Mallards. I think it is bbp duck's side kick. You keep your eye on him.

Now that my trailer, I repaired, is loaded up and I smell like eau de gasoline, it's time to get a move on.

Coreen, absolutely beautiful pictures. You are an artist with your camera. I blew up the bottom pic that has the woodpecker. He is so pretty. I have not heard of weeping cherry trees before. What a lovely drive you have to work.

Wonderful post, Coreen. So peaceful on this morning after the storm.

Coreen said...

Back in, fed the birds....raining & chilly, but
not like the awful weather in the south...just a good rain....

Thanks, everyone...I think because of this place I have taken a closer look at things around me & am happy to have the chance to share what I see with all of you...

Chloe, hoping you start showing us some of
your part of Texas....

Jan, the same about New Mexico...and Jan, glad
that the car accident was 'minor', though I'm
sure the shock of seeing your loved one's involved, sent your heart beating lots.....

Ivy, looks like you 'weathered' the storm...a good thing....we are lucky in that we may get
difficult weather, snowstorms, noreasters, an
occassional hurricane (not usually with the
highest winds) but rarely get tornados, flooding, wildfires, mudslides, earthquakes that other areas of the U.S. seem to get so often that cause such devastating damage in such a very short time.....

CBS has been promoting their Hallmark Hall of Fame movie tonight. It's the story of "Lois W.", the co-founder of Al-Anon Family Groups. Winona Ryder star as Lois.

When Love is Not Enough

"A new Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, “When Love Is Not Enough,” features the story of Lois W., one of Al-Anon’s cofounders. The movie portrays how Lois worked the Twelve Steps in her personal life. The movie will air on the CBS television network Sunday, April 25, at 9 p.m. ET and PT, 8 p.m. CT."

I used to be terrified of being caught unawares by fierce storms, especially ones with tornadoes. Now, after years of experience, I know how to prepare. Our best investment was a NOAA weather radio. It might blast me out of bed in the middle of the night, but I can fall sleep knowing if a storm comes, I will probably have time to get to my "safe place."

I'm sure it was all those years of watching the annual repeats of "The Wizard of Oz" movie that made me terrified of tornadoes.

Carol, about those C2C shows...are you listening to the latest nightly shows and able to find past ones as well?

Please keep giving us 'reviews' of the various
topics...

As far as the Collyer brothers, don't really know much other than they 'collected & saved'
anything, lived in NYC I think....would they be considered the 'standard' for compulsive hoarding? Was that a topic on C2C?

Susan Cheever's biography of the Wilsons is not "conferenced approved," but it the real story, "warts and all."

Susan Cheever's bio of Bill and Lois W.

Bill Wilson is one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century, a man who founded a movement which changed all of our lives."

Ivy, thanks for sharing about the show "Love is not enough" We will watch it here. Addictions have certainly touched my life over the years - and now as well.

Just caught up with a lot of reading:

First things first...Ivy was thinking about U and am sure glad that all is ok with U and our mancave friend.!!

Coreen,

Very nice pics...we have a lot of cherry blossoms around here...

Chloe,

I love it when u talk like this...."we are the universe, the earth, mother nature....(~_*)

Carol,

Yes we are all star dust....all stars actually, that will fizzile and cease to shine one day....but the good news is that we ( our chemicals) will join all of the others that fade and return in the rains that nourish the earth....this is why-what I know that re-incarnation is real...not what most people think it is...but we all will come back to recycle mother earth.....U probably will come back as one of two things...............Im positive about this.!!!

Carol, I do believe that we will have a limited birth control as we evolve...but it was not too long ago...about one second ago ( evolution time) that we had many, many children so we could tile the fields.....we produced our own slaves, work force etc.....my father had 15 altogether......even had a Ponderosa...........don't ask.!

Jan, so glad that everything turned out right......wanna dance?

Stardust, Stars, Universe......is why we need to keep finding the secrets of the universe and using them so we can inhabit another place to live....mother earth is a star that will blow up in about another billion years....what some like C-bob knows and want so use natural energy...don't agree with him in a lot of things...but he is right on about this.......wind turbines should be placed in the upper atmosphere, solar reflectors also......instead of spy, war satellites ....there are more scientist working on these solutions that make the news......keep saying that eructation of the masses is the solution of all things....

Ivy Green said...

You're welcome, Jan. We've been affected by alcoholism and addiction in ways we do not suspect, often extending back several generations where it was not even recognized, let alone admitted. Many families still operate that way.

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
Our day was mostly "normal." Turned out to be a good day to clean up "the Man Cave." lol

Solar said...

No, I don't think that we will ever have population control..unless it is forced.!!

We are a member of the Apes..and as such the males must go forth and spread the good news.......it is in our dna, it is demanded by evolution for the males to have as many children as they can....that is why there is so many having more than one mate (cheating) at the same time.....while defending his mate for life (wife) from the other apes that want to spread their genes.......man is not Monogamous

Priest should be allowed to marry b/c of this natural fact.....they also feel the need to spread thier genes on to the next generations......would stop a lot of abuse from them....but then that wold mean that they believe in science......they do but they would have to acknowledge science....and the would open the doors for the lambs to get an education.......Copernicus was not a big hit.......

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
Priests ought to be allowed to marry, but not in a effort to stop them from molesting children. They would still not be allowed to marry children. Allowing priests to marry would not stop priests who abuse from abusing. It would just mean they are among the ranks of other married men who abuse.

Solar said...

Man caves.......grrrrrr

Solar said...

Ivy, I agree about the priest, not to stop molesting children.....there will be those that will do that regardless......but maybe even they should be allowed to have a reltionship ( mary) like my pal Tony...just a healthy way to be imo.......later....last day for this week ....moving sale

Ivy Green said...

Solar,
My parents were observant Catholics and even they thought priests should have been permitted to marry. If for no other reason than they should empathize with the lives of their parishioners.

There are married Catholic priests...if you marry as a non-Catholic, then convert and enter the priesthood, you are allowed to keep your wife. I think that's the case, but I didn't google it and it's from the recesses of my faulty memory. lol

Carol said...

Ivy, thanks for telling us about that movie. I'm looking forward to watching it.

I think Catholic priest should be allowed to marry because I think that requiring that celebate life may attract men, who feel they don't have normal sexual desires and want to repress them and feel they can kill two birds with one stone, serve God and repress unnatural urges. The only problem is that repression just doesn't last and they get into positions of power and they become like a kid in the candy store.

There are some priest that are married like u say....the converts....what the catholics need to do is to let their own get married...for many, many reasons......in the old days they were not allowed to get married...b/c the church did not want the priest that were dying to leave their belongings to their wives, sons, daughters or anyone else, that was not the church........always about money and land with the religions.....they should be taxed....

Carol said...

Yes Coreen, that was all on C2C. On the computer, you have access to three years of archived programs. So far, I can only get the last half months on Iphony. Not sure how to get older archives.

I was going to call the woodpecker 'Waldo" because I couldn't find him. I was looking in the bushes. I was surprised to find him on the ground. There is a little white-throated sparrow near him, also on the ground. This past winter was a bumper crop for my white-throated sparrows. There have been seasons when I never saw a single one. Thanks, Coreen.

The church photo made me think of "the May Procession." Did anyone else have to perform in that annual Catholic school ritual??

Ivy Green said...

At our school, the week or two of practice marching before May Procession would be the hottest on record. They would send us out there in the post-lunchtime heat in our wool jumper uniforms. Never in the morning when it was cool. Children would faint and literally be carried away on makeshift stretchers, if not just dragged off by the heels or armpits. It was so gruesome. I would pray to be a lucky fainter, but I was blessed with too strong a constitution. Or maybe I had a greater fear that my dress would flop up and reveal my underwear. I guess that was the test of modern martyrdom.

Ivy Green said...

The "real" Twelve Steps...

1) We admitted we were powerless over nothing, that we could manage our lives perfectly and those of anyone else whether they want us to or not.

2) Came to believe there was no power greater than ourselves and the rest of the world was insane.

3) Made a decision to have our loved ones and friends turn their will and their lives over to our care, even though didn't listen to us.

4) Made a searching moral and immoral inventory of everyone we knew.

5) Admitted to the whole world the exact nature of everyone else's wrongs.

6) Were entirely ready to make the others straighten up and fly right.

7) Demanded others to either shape up or ship out.

8) Made a list of all persons who had harmed us and became willing to go to any length to get even with them all.

9) Got direct revenge on such people whenever possible, even when to do so would cost us our lives, or at the very least, a jail sentence.

10) Continued to take the inventory of others, and when they were wrong promptly and repeatedly told them about it.

11) Sought through complaining and nagging to improve our relations with others, as we couldn't understand them, asking only that they knuckle under and do it our way.

12) Having had a complete physical, emotional and spiritual breakdown as a result of these steps, we tried to blame it on others and to get sympathy and pity in all our affairs.

lol

I have not been able to get a closeup of any of my feathered friends, since if I open the
front door or the garage door, everyone leaves,
these are from inside looking out the window,
the only window w/o a screen, which will be
put in as soon as it returned from being re-screened...then I won't be able to get any
pics from inside through the screens....

Nice romantic music Solar. I'm a little too whipped to dance at the moment. Give me a few minutes. That morning yard work took it out of me. The 85 degree cool front we had isn't helping either.

I didn't eat this moring and I came home with a negative nitrogen balance. I tried to correct it and it all went to my ass.

Coreen said...

And yes, where I went to catholic school there
was always a May procession, I think the beginning of the month...it was to celebrate
Mary, a statute of Mary would be carried in the
procession from the school to the church, & the
girls wore white dresses, sometimes with a little light blue, it wasn't really too hot here though, so no one was fainting...I went to
an ethnic catholic school, the parishioners were mostly Polish...I and a couple of other kids were the token Italians, the school was across the street from where I grew up)...I may have told
you, we had to learn to pray in Polish...& sing
carols too, I had no idea what Christmas carols
meant for a long, long time....I still can say
the sign of the cross & the first couple of words of Hail Mary & Our Father in polish....

I don't think that is done at most catholic schools anymore...I will ask my friend that works at St. T's, the church in the pic....there may be a ceremony, but I don't think there is a procession...

What U might want to do to get your sound back is to buy a cpl of cheapie speakers for the pc...connect them to the back of the puetor...could save programs, docs that you want to a back up disc.....and reinstall your windows xp, or whatever you have...that should do it...antoher way is to down load a sound card....go into you mgr, system and take a look...but that is too involving.....

Coreen said...

Ivy Green said...

Coreen,
You sparked a cascade of memories. I don't know if that's good or bad. At our Catholic school, there was a permanent life-sized statue of the Blessed Mother in a garden area between the church and the convent. We didn't carry her, we marched to her. The nuns also held an election each year to select the lucky 8th grade girl who would be "May Queen." The May Queen got the honor of being raised up to place the garland of fresh flowers on the head of Mary. Her selection was by popular vote of the 8th grade. The criteria for selection were perceived holiness, virtue, beauty, and popularity. For one girl in our class, it was the warm-up act, as she went on to beauty pageants, winning the Miss Delaware title, and competing in the Miss America Pageant (in the era when it still meant something) where she finished among the finalists. She was my classmate from elementary school through college, though I never felt in any way her equal. I was so in awe of her in grammar school, I wanted to change my name to hers. Sadly, my sister was already named that, so my parents ruled it out. But I did get to pick it for my Confirmation Name because it was a Saint's Name. lol

Hallmark did a wonderful job with the "Lois story." While it was painful to watch the true-to-life depiction of the deterioration of their lives, the message resonated with hope at the end. Winona Ryder was beautiful in the role; the 1920s costumes on her and the other female characters were exquisite. I loved seeing the set decor with all the furnishings from that period. My grandmother's home was "time capsuled" in that era when I was growing up. It felt like stepping back in time to her living room. Now I really want to make a visit to "Stepping Stones" next time I visit New York.

Even on Morning Joe, when they talk about this financial reform problem I feel like they are being patronizing to us. They kind of treat it like a joke. Haven't heard anything from Elizabeth Warren lately. Does someone have a muzzle on her.

Carol said...

Ivy, I watched a little over an hour of the movie. It was tough. I wanted to see how they were involved in the programs to help alcoholics. I get too many opportunities to see the pain that results from it all. I didn't need any more of that reality. Also I don't have Network in my bedroom and I have to head there at 9 to get stuff ready for work in the morning.

I didn't see any news yesterday but a friend was telling me about this homeless man who was stabbed to death in Queens when he came to the rescue of some woman who was being attacked. 25 people walked past that man without doing anything. Maybe some realized it was too late to help??

I was in NYC once for an educational conference. It is a fast paced city. I was surprised when this lady stopped to help me when I was lost. I didn't even ask for help but must have had that lost look on my face. She asked if she could help and went out of her way to get me headed in the right direction.

Carol said...

And maybe that homeless man story represents what going on today. The homeless man, laying on the street dying, represents we the people. The people walking past, represent the bankers, Wallstreet and our government.

What ya think?

all like to hang out in wetlands, which is what
they do here...

I found some closeup pics of them from
last spring, which show the differences much better.....

ET thinks people will miss Kate. Oh brother.

Carol said...

DWTS doesn't really encourage us to compare and contrast, they want you to vote for your favorite couple so I am. Last week I waited and it was too late.

Coreen said...

So far tonite no one stands out from the others...There is definitiely lots of improvement in Niecy & the blond sportscaster....I thought Evan was a little stiff, as if the dance routine didn't fit him that well..

And not sure who your favorite couple is...would it be Niecy?

What do you vote on your iphony? never voted
on any of these shows....

Carol said...

Google "DWTS vote" and then sign in. Better hurry. It's all over 30 minutes after the show.

Carol said...

Yes, so far Niecy got some of my votes. She has come a long way.

Carol said...

Poor Ocho is so tall that he crouches to get closer to his partner.

Carol said...

Ocho got a vote and I'm saving some for Pam if she does well. I think women are too hard of her. She deserves better than she gets.

Carol said...

You get 8 votes.

Carol said...

I think Evan is a hair of a weeny for an Olympic athlete. As a skater he must have hit his head harder than that before.

Carol said...

Pam doesn't even look like the same woman from week to week.

Coreen said...

ok, I found the website & even voted....have 3 votes left...only said 7....

Nicole is a very good dancer....& with Derek
they are the best of the couples...

Chad pulled it off, yes he is too tall, but then his partner may be too short....they just
don't match up well for partners...

Pamela is holding her own each week...again
lots of improvement....

Carol said...

Wasn't that impressed with any of them with the Swing. I think I did better than that when I was drunk in college. Of course, I was drunk and it was a long time ago, so who knows?

Coreen said...

Well, that was cute...they all looked like they were having fun....a little silly, but not
bad....

I'm sticking with Nicole & Derek as the couple
to beat...I think Evan will be in the finals, but not sure who the third would be...I think they still have 3 for the finals?....

Did you hear this? "Stephen Hawking has warned against trying to make contact with extraterrestrials. The world-renowned physicist believes a few alien species could be both intelligent and dangerous"

Mr. Mallard is still tagging along with his x Ms. and the BBP duck that stole her away from him. He's hanging on, poor little guy. It's my little ménage à trois. They run the river all day, drop in off and on and come back here to roost for the night. Probably cuz they get the best grub here.

Just catching up on my blog reading. I have not seen DWTS yet. I enjoy reading what you all wrote about the contestents tonight. We had "miss baby" and her mama and her grandma (visiting from Phoenix) ovre tonight for dinner. She has grown so. I have not seen her or her mama (my granddaughter for about 3 weeks). Baby's daddy had an emergency appendectomy 5 weeks ago and they have been so busy. Baby daddy didn't come tonight - he wanted some time to himself at home tonight. Baby Abigail smiled at me all night. She has taken my heart. One of these days I will get a pic posted - promise.

What would I say to an alien? Hmmmm. If we could communicate I would like to know where they come from. I would like to know what their lives are like. That would be a start.

Strange, I have voted many times on Idol but not on DWTS.

Carol, I saw that on story on Stephen Hawking last night, and planned on linking the story this morning. Here's the one I ran across:

Don’t talk to aliens, warns Stephen Hawking
"THE aliens are out there and Earth had better watch out, at least according to Stephen Hawking. He has suggested that extraterrestrials are almost certain to exist — but that instead of seeking them out, humanity should be doing all it that can to avoid any contact.

“I suspect there could be life and intelligence out there in forms we can’t conceive,” he said. “Just as a chimpanzee can’t understand quantum theory, it could be there are aspects of reality that are beyond the capacity of our brains.” http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/science/space/article7107207.ece
text you're link from

I also saw a story where someone else agreed with him.

Anonymous said...

"But Hawking does have some company. Fermi scientist Richard Carrigan suggests that we shouldn't be transmitting radio signals willy-nilly into the universe. Who knows who might come to investigate us. "

... this is the one I was talking about. It kinda made sense, what he said about transmitting willy-nilly signals. Ha! Didn't know we did that.

But I also read that they finding new planets every day. Didn't know that either.

Coreen said...

Not really sure about confronting a visitor from outer space (a true alien)....pretty sure I would do my best to avoid one, I know I was
not too pleased the one time I saw what I still
believe was a UFO....

Coreen said...

But I do know that anyone claiming
that eating chocolate is somehow linked to being depressed....I say...give me a break...& don't even try to stop me from eating chocolate!....

Naturally, someone did a 'study' saying that....though I must say the assertions in the article are less than convincing to me..

Eating Chocolate is linked to Depression

Anonymous said...

I don't believe that about chocolate either Coreen. I think the key to consumption of anything is moderation.

I found myself wondering how old Stephen Hawking is now, and went to Wiki to see. Ended up reading the whole thing, and found it very interesting.

"He believes alien life not only certainly exists in planets but perhaps even in other places, like within stars or even floating in outer space. He also warns that a few of these species might be intelligent and threaten Earth. Contact with such species might be devastating for humanity. "If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans," he said. He advocated that, rather than try to establish contact, man should try to avoid contact with alien life forms." Existence and nature of extraterrestrial life

... that 'Columbus' comparison put things into perspective. He has a talent for making things easy to understand.

I truly admire Hawkins...

Anonymous said...

... you know Solar, an interesting thing I've found out about Hawking, was from his wife's semi-biography of their marriage. She is a religious person, and one of their major problems was that he is an atheist.

I guess what I am finding interesting, is the clash: Religion vs. Science. Obviously, you can believe in both, but according to his wife, Hawking doesn't - which didn't surprise me.

After all this time Solar, I'm still not sure what you believe.

But hey buddy, I haven't been not talking to you - I always enjoy our conversations and reading what you have to say. I just haven't been here as often as I'd like to be.

Solar said...

Chloe,

Just teasing U a little.! About what I believe in....I believe in the way that all of the sciences come together to tell us whom/who we are....keep reading what they have to say...after listening to them.....and giving me the best and moat logical explanation of life, the universe and everything in it.....I believe in the sciences but with a high degree of spiritualism....U know there might even be a god......but something that we can't even imagine, or dream off, at least not yet.....certainly not one that watches every little thing that we do...says that we have the freedom to chose, and then slaps us around for choosing it.....

An example of what Im talking about:
Archeology and Anthropology explains to me how Jesus made water into wine...and it might have been at his own wedding (at Cane) :-) did you know that Jesus was studying magic?

Surviving works from the engineer Heron of Alexandria...Pneumatics...has several chapters on magical pitchers, where the pourer could pour water, wine or a mixture of both by covering any of a choice of holes with his thumb....The chapter titles tell the story " A vessel from which wine or water m ay be made to flow separately or mixed"

Heron ( first century c.e. was the most voluminous ancient writer on technology whose works have survived...in pneumatics...is described Herons version of a steam engine, a ball rotating by a pair of nozzles, like a rotary lawn sprinkler..he describes several kinds of magical pitchers that wine or water can come out of..by stopping the holes in the upper parts with his thumb....the historian Celsus says that young Jesus, brought up in Egypt, got in with some local magicians, he learned some of their tricks, and later used them in Palestine to convince people that he could work miracles....lets see...which one would I choose to be the most plausible....

One more thing should convince U that I don't buy into any of the teachings of religions....the son of god...there were a few of these...lets see....Asclepius, the supreme physician, was said to be a son of Apollo, and Theseus a son of Poseidon...the virgin birth...no way....it would sup-rise you what is said about this...what I find incredible is how anyone can believe in these things...not all can be proven by science and all...but nothing can be believed if questioned of religions....

Christianity took over from Judaism and so did Islam...they incorporated a burning drive to convert the world to their creeds.....

Carol said...

There was something on C2C the other night about creation that I half heard because I was half asleep. They were discussing how everything had to be just right, perfect for things to come together for life to evolve. That's where I see God came in. Creating that perfect scenario. I like the concept of God. I think I'll stick with it. It works for me. When I observe and study nature, I can see the hand of God in it.

Beautifully said Carol.
I really like the way you put that.

Anonymous said...

"They were discussing how everything had to be just right, perfect for things to come together for life to evolve."

Not only does it allow it to evolve, once everything 'is' perfect, then it creates the particular life (that it's perfect for) automatically.

Stephen Hawking's wife did say that he did admit once that even his 'science' required a leap of faith now and then.

You're theory is every bit as good as mine, that's for sure.

Anonymous said...

One of the things I like most about you Carol (and I like many things about you) is that you're consistent.

Solar said...

Carol,

Me too.! I will stick to the concept of a God that created everything, even all of the dimensions, and the universe, and all of the planets, every speck of star dust...yes this god I can believe in....a cosmic god.....but never in an angry, spiteful, vengeful god of the bible...he is a childish intolerant god, and chooses one from the other....

this will be the last....and sorry if it comes out like im angry..im never angry when I post here or at tm.....cept when I was arguing with Brian...and even then..i wasn't mad...a little angry maybe...takes a lot for me to get mad....Oh and god would never ever have a gender.....he would be all of parts of animal and everything else that we can of all living things... imagined....imagine of the life forms that have not been discovered yet.....bottom of the ocean..and places to yet be discovered.....

Carol said...

And I can buy all that also Solar.

Carol said...

Thanks Chloe. I may change at times but that's all part of evolving. Live and learn, and I'm always open to learning.

Anonymous said...

Thanks Solar. Now that I understood - you said what you think, and I got it!

Carol said...

All the peeps I voted for made it. Whoppee.

Coreen said...

Not an unpleasant outcome on dwts...though for the most part all of the celebs have improved
vastly....

However, the most fascinating day was the goldman sachs hearing, by the end of it, it was
clear to me, that having the likes of carl levin & claire mckaskell as senators is less
than reassuring for getting any real financial industry reform....by the end of the
night, I liked Goldman a whole lot better than
these elected officials...& that's saying lots!

And more importantly after more than 10 hours of grandstanding, posturing by these senators,
no one has come up with any real legislation to
prevent the meltdown that happened more than
2 years ago, from happening again...

but the talk from these hearings in the media is that carl levin said the word 'shitty' like 15-16 times...what an absolute waste of time...
nothing was accompllished, just a few senators
playing to their peeps.....we continue to be
doomed....

Carol said...

That's distressing Coreen. I haven't heard any news this evening and from the looks of it, I'm glad I haven't.

Claire has been a big disappointment.

Carol said...

Maybe I should listen to a little of Dylan. A different version of "the biggest loser".

Carol said...

Coreen, it's hard to understand how you can like anything about Goldman. Have you been drinking or did you overdose on chocolate?

Carol said...

From the things I hear Coreen, I just can't understand why much of this stuff isn't criminal. IMO it's MUCH more criminal than what I see charged against the poor people I see in our jail every day. Their crimes are insignificant by comparison. Rich people who steal millions can get away with anything.

Carol said...

At least Senator Bunning, on the Ratigan Show, admits that he failed the American people. So have most of the others but they won't admit it.

Coreen said...

Neither...but those that testified from Goldman
showed just why they are the 'masters of the
universe'...Blankenfien in particular articulated the complexity of the transactions
that are the subject of the SEC complaint...while these senators were simply
grandstanding...

I am sure that the left wing
liberal contingent will be rah-rahing both
levin & mckasell, but they were ineffective,
his forming of questions was incoherent, he
distorted & seemed to not really know the
subject he was trying to elicit some damning answer to (which he did not get from any of the witnesses), while she was hysterical, shrill & made no sense in her questions...

Sen. Mark Pryor from Arkansas was the best in
actually informing, and Tester was not bad either...but for the most part....it was not
productive at all..it did not accomplish anything...

Don't misunderstand me, it is extremely difficult to fathom, let alone
justify the enormous amounts of money that
Wall Street types have made, while the entire
country has been crushed by the meltdown, however that does not mean that Goldman should be the only entity to be singled out as the villain that they have been painted...and yes I read the Matt Taibi 'giant vampire squid'
indictment of goldman...but in the end...the
operative word for all involved is just one...and that is 'greed' which drives the
entire world....

The causes of the meltdown are many, from the
lack of regulation & oversight by the Fed, think Alan Greenspan & his 'incomprehensible
rantings for years when the world stopped & hung on his gobbledigock, think Fannie & Freddie underwriting, pushing loans to those
that probably never had the capacity to repay
them...home ownership may not be right for everyone....think Wall Street for creating these complex security items that no one really
understood....think our politicians (both parties) who got fat & rich off the Wall street
types for years...think the rating companies that got paid to rate the junk stuff triple A, & on & on....blame all around....and yet
2 years & counting, nothing has changed, yet
this administration spent over a year pushing
a health care bill that most did not really want....while rome continues to burn so to speak....

Carol said...

After watching 20 minutes of Dylan, I found myself tearing thru my little freezer, frozen stuff flying, digging for that no sugar, no fat ice cream I bought a while back. I didn't like it and it isn't potent enough but maybe, with lots of chocolate shavings, it might drown some of my sorrow.

Coreen said...

I caught the last part of Rattigan, he has his
rant about to big to fail, but not sure how he
would effect any changes...did you see him with
barry ritholz

But enough ranting, I will survivie in spite of them...I have learned to not
count on politicians to do much,
just enough to keep them in power....my motto
still is....only the strong survive...& that
means I can only influence, protect, help
my little sphere of influence...

Wow, Coreen, you really did a great job covering a lot of things in that post - every word was right on.

Some of the important things that you said, that stood out to me (because I think they would have changed (prevented) so much of what has gone wrong):

1. "The causes of the meltdown are many:
-- from the lack of regulation & oversight by the Fed
-- pushing loans to those that probably never had the capacity to repay them
-- Wall Street for creating these complex security items that no one really understood
-- our politicians (both parties) who got fat & rich off the Wall street
-- rating companies that got paid to rate the junk stuff triple A, & on & on.
-- Greenspan.....

2. .... this administration spent over a year pushing a health care bill that most did not really want."

It sure would be nice if our politicians could summarize things as well as you do Coreen - Ha! As if they'd want to!

Ivy Green said...

I didn't watch the Goldman hearings, just the clips on Hardball, etc. Chris, etc. commented about "arrogance" on the part of the executives for "not answering" the Senators. Actually, a few of the Senators' questions were not only arrogant but abusive. Any executive who answers questions with words like "shitty" as punctuation is stupid and gullible. Such charades make it apparent corporate interests don't fear Congress, but Courts. Congress can do almost nothing to harm them, but anything they say can and will be used against them in prosecution or lawsuits. Hence, unless to utter a denial, keep your mouth shut no matter what they hurl at you. Congressional hearings are political grandstanding, proving only that legislators are little more than weak and powerless ogres. But ogres do get reelected.

Chloe, I think there were plenty of people who understood those nasty little games they were playing with other people's money. They were making a killing. Many won't admit it but there was that autistic guy with that hedge fund that figured it out and made a killing. Many who pretended not to understand were cleaning up. No one wanted to stop the highway robbery because they were cashing in on it.

Anonymous said...

I agree Carol.
I just thought if someone would honestly and clearly point out where the problems starte as Coreen did, they could then go to work changing things to prevent it from happening again. But like you say, they're just nasty little games, they know exactly what is going on - and when one game ends, another one will start.

What I really want to see happen is more more honest regulation & oversight by the government - keeping the playing field fair for 'everyone'. But as long as everyone's hand is out, I don't know how that will ever happen. The government hasn't been doing it's job.

What Ivy said about Congressional hearings being not much more than political grandstanding is true.

I'll have to research it additionally. He's still out there. I'll need to come up with a name. Uh oh, you know what happens when you "name" a creature...you get attached.

Ivy, that Zen DeBrucke, lady I heard on C2C, has a little video that helps a person determine whether a feeling is intuition, what she calls our internal guidance system, or just an anxious feeling. I haven't seen it but she talked about it. It has something to do with whether you feel tension in the area between the throat and the solar plexus when you have that intuitive thought. Might want to check it out... or ask Luna.

My bro predicted Siobhan is in trouble tonight...(he calls her Screamin' Demon, or some such). I didn't agree, but he could be right.

Jan, don't forget to watch Modern Family. So funny I almost wet my pants. Actually that isn't that hard to do these days.

Nope Coreen, they haven't got the well capped yet. It may reach the mouth of the Mississippi by this weekend. God help the wetlands.

They're thinking of putting a dome over the well head and then pumping the oil out of the dome.
