Bob Marley-Don't worry be happy

Thanks for the pic, Carol. Here in Dillo land I rarely see one... I think only one since I've lived here. But that's good... if I never see another possum or raccoon I'd be happy. The racoons are cute, but they can kill cats and that makes them undesirable (to me).

Don't worry about those snakes, etc. The gators will get them and keep them from multiplying. Let nature take care of it.

That's my new attitude... trying not to worry about every little thing, and I think it may be beginning to work (at least as long as I work at it... worry, another on of those pesky little habits).

I've got to move on from all the worry I've done all my life... there are bigger fish to fry!
Don't worry, be happy.

Everyone please go back and read Carol's and Jan's comments. I wanted to post this song in response, but can't do it on this site without sharing it this way. Not other tools to do it on a comment (except linking).

Enjoyed your conversation Carol and Jan.

Carol said...

Chloe, they found a gator in one of those pythons. They can eat gators. I dont really care for either the pythos or the gators

Carol said...

They can both eat people.

Unknown said...

Whoa. Sorry, Carol. Didn't realize how dangerous they were.

The way this day is going (not talking about here, but in general), kinda wish I'd kept my mouth shut.

Carol said...

Good advice Chloe but worry is embedded in my DNA. How do I remove it?

jan said...

I suppose worry is part of the human condition. Worry eats away at our lives, so when I am obsessing (worrying) about something that I can't change of affect in any way, I try to do something to distract myself such as walking or working on a quilt or a project that I like - even cleaning a drawer or closet helps. If my worry is about someone I love, I just give them a call to check on them and say hello.

Carol said...

wh is wrong with the day Chloe/

Carol said...

Fishing as was one thing I could do to not worry ,be happy but now a day i worry about fallin in or out of the boat and hurting myself. It's too easy to hurt myself. I even worry about the same. About fallin out of bed or fallin when I walk in or out of the house.

Carol,
I think we've all had to learn to be more careful as we age. Just take your time when you're doing things; hold onto railings when you go up and down stairs; wear sensible shoes that you won't slip in... stuff like that. It's not so much that you're more apt to have an accident, but that you can't afford to have one because the consequences are so much more severe.

We just have to teach ourselves to be more careful (and we 'can' do it) because we know taking chances is just not worth it. That doesn't have to take the joy out of your life, and you needn't live in fear once you cultivate these new habits.

Unknown said...

... things may be different now, as they change in each new stage of our lives, but that doesn't mean that things can't be better... just different.

Love you, Carol. Hope you're feeling good.

jan said...

Carol, I would like to "ditto" what Chloe said. I always hold onto rails or whatever I can even when going down a couple of steps. I always use a stepladder now to get into higher cabinets. About 12 years ago I was still climbing on kitchen chairs to get into cabinets and took a hard fall. I don't do that any more. I am so much more careful than I used to be. I know my body is more fragile and things break or sprain easier and I don't like it when I cannot walk or do the things I like to do.

Carol said...

Guys, I'm as careful a humanly possible. I don't particularly care for pain

jan said...

I am missing seeing you all here in Carol's swamp. I have been busy this week with work and other things. I am thinking about all of you.

We have had unusual weather here the past week. We have actually had snow in Albuquerque last week. So strange. Now our temps will be going back into the mid to hi 80's.

jan said...

Carol, I hope you don't think I am harrassing you about being careful. I know you are doing what you can to take care of your body. Hope you are still having fun. I have been working too much and realize that I am not having much fun outside of work. I am going to start thinking about that

Greta, Karen and I are having people over to the camp for crawfish to morrow Not going to boil them. we're getting them already cooked. Greta and I ran the roads all day getting ready for it. Bought flowers and stuff. Yesterday afternoon we went tolittle Podunk town for their maybes festival. Karen plays in a rock and roll band. She plays the sax, flute and sings. Their bass used to play with black Oak Arkansas. The summer is one of our local cardiologist.
The little town is a short distaance from Vinton, where mom and "a lived. Theres a racetrack and casino there. I asked them to let me play some slos for a littlckkstold Karen, who never plays or gambles stood next to me telling me whether to betone or 2 bucks we did sell as a team. Cashew doesn't play. I came out about 600 ahead. We used it to buy stuff today and sill have some left to buy the crawfish and other stuff for tomorrow. we bought los of flower baskets to dressed the place up. Greta and I have the same doc. We love her and we invited her. Shes taken good car of us after the injuries we sustained while at the camp. We figured we would introduce her o the scene of our many injuries and hopefully no future ones It ought to be fun. Im looking forward to it. It was a very busy day and I'm pooped

jan said...

Carol, sounds like a lot of fun. A great day for you. One of the things I miss about Louisiana are the great festivals. We went to some while living there. Loved the music and the food.

jan said...

I had a quiet day at home. I took apart a quilt my grandmother gave me years ago. It had an old batting that was stuffed with real cotton not cotton batting. I could not wash it because the batting was so heavy. It is a Sunshine Sue pattern. So cute. It took several hours and was really messy. I am going to wash and repair the quilt top and connect it to a new lightweight batting.

You definitely had more fun than I did Carol.

Carol said...

Watching on Golden Pond, ne of my favourite movies.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol,
On Golden Pond was filmed on Squam Lake here in NH. It's a beautiful place! Since the movie, the lake businesses advertise themselves using the movie name. There's the On Golden Pond Inn, the On Golden Pond restaurant, The On Golden Pond this and the On Golden Pond that. You can take boat tours to the On Golden Pond places where scenes were shot.

It's still a wonderful lake dotted with small town communities despite the commercialism… which isn't as bad as some places I've been to such as Hannibal Missouri, home of Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer adventures.

jan said...

Now you all have got me interested in seeing the movie, On Golden Pond, again. All I remember about it is that Henry and Jane Fonda played father and daughter in the movie.

Carol said...

Yes Jan and the relationship jane and her dad had in the movie is just like it was in her life

I have gotten as bad as my mom was with using computers. I get very flustered. I tried to pay a bill ok\nline and ran into every obstacle possible. Almost had a nervous breakdown. I need a partner who is a ookkeeper.

Carol said...

I had a calcium score done and it came out elevated. Now I have to schedule a stress tryst. I think I had that stress test today and failed. I can no longer handle any stress.

Unknown said...

Hey, Carol

Call everyone you owe money to, and put it on auto pay.

Also, ask them to alert you if anything on your account looks unusual. They normally do that by texting you sending you an email, according to your preference.

You don't have make your payments online, in the meantime. You can call and they'll normally take them over the phone without an extra charge (anymore).

Put everything on auto drive... then sit back and enjoy the view!

Unknown said...

... if anything can give us a nervous breakdown, it's everyday life.

Avoid stress?
Whoever can figure that one out will be rich for the rest of their life.

Meantime, all we can do is make things as easy as possible, and not give a &*#$.

Carol said...

Karen had everything prepared for getting out to fish at the the crack of dan and we were loaded up nd the motor wouldn't start. We went to Walmart for a new battery. We left the trolling motor plugged in and it drained down the battery. Always something. We still got out pretty early. After 10 am. I hVe to be in AC. Too hot outside

There was a newmeteor shower the lastv 2 night. First time for this shower. Didn't catch sight of anything. Rats

Carol said...

Not rea''y having any fishing luck the fish dont like the heat either

"If anything can give us a nervous breakdown, its everyday life."

Chloe, so true!
We are back in Asheville NC for the annual dream conference at Kanuga. Flew in last night. It was a nice flight. Got here about 9:30 pm. By time picked up car it was after 10 pm. John thought he had made reservations at a Holiday Inn we had stayed at 3 years ago. Got there and turned out the reservations were at another Holiday Inn. The desk clerk gave us wrong directions. Drove around about an 1/2 hour and realized we were not going in the right way - were driving out of town. John usually prints out hotel info and confirmation #s. did not this time. Finally got to hotel at midnight. By this time, I had a headache. All is well. We check in at Kanuga - dream conf at 3 pm. Will be glad to see old friends and be in a familiar place.

Carol said...

Sounds fun Jan. Have a good conference.

I had a fun weekend. Greta, Karen, Shay, greta's adopted son, and I spent 4 days at the camp. Fished every morning. Karen, scout leader, prepared all the rods and boat. We didn't have any luck fishing but still had a good time. don't know where the fish are. There were a few fish caught , nothing significant. Maybe because of the drought were having. Water may be too brackish, salty.
Yesterday, one of my long ago x-students came out. She was one of my favs. She had several sons who died of this genetic disorder. Two died within a couple of months of each other. I remember thinking, I don't know how she could survive that??

She and her new husband live in Africa and run safaris. Will find a link and post it later. You can look her up on Facebook. Her name is Kathy Phinney.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol… I think it's great that you've made such good new friends. And it happened because of that yorkie pup… maybe she's really an angel in disguise.

Jan… hope you have fun at your conference and with your friends.

Rick and I had a good weekend. Spent it mainly with family. We went to 2 ceremonies yesterday. One for his mother who was a member of the American Legion auxiliary … and the other was at the Veteran's cemetery where my parents are buried.

Had a barbecue at Rick's family camp last night. After years of saying "no thanks" to deer meat, I finally tried a piece of deer steak…. I was surprised… I actually liked it.

Carol said...

Jan, we are planning a trip to Coloradoans want to meet up with you guys somewhere. Wherevwould you recommend?

Carol said...

Karen took off 7 thru 13.

Carol said...

Jan, we are leaving LC on the 7th. Do you have any ideas of where we can hook up that would be interesting. I thought of that podosa springs unless you have another idea. We are also going to Durango Gretahas family there and one of Merrill's son and his wife lives there. Then we will go to gypsum to see Emily. Not sure where else.

Carol said...

Renee, I've known Greta and Karen for 30 plus years but just lost touch with her. The stroke actually reconnected us. Something good came out of it

I'm having that stress test tomorrow morning. Hope I pass it.
Looking forward to our road trip. We all are very comparable. gretas's 14 year old aspberger son is also going. I get along well with him. He's a typical hard headed kid though. He just doesn't listen to his mom very well. L

Carol said...

I don't think I told y'all that Lisa's moving to Texas. She has her last days at work this week. She will stay here through June and will be here to take care of Maggie and watch the house. convenient. I guess she moves at the end of the month of June. She still has stuff to tie up before she goes. She's been wanting to move to Texas.

jan said...

Carol, I would love to meet up with you guys. We could meet in Durango. Dirango is about a 6 hour drive for us. Nothing for that part of the country. I love Durango. Lots to do there.

I use a stylus for typing but still have problems. Try to go too fast.

Carol said...

We've had a lot of rain this morning. Hope it slows down before I have to leave for my test.

Carol said...

I'm eager to get going on vacay

Coreen said...

Carol, think it is great that you are taking a road trip vacation...

And hope that the stress test shows no problems...

Carol said...

And Coreen, this time no one can kick me to the curb. Can't wait to see Jan again. Just finished my stress test.. They couldn't get my heart rate up enough. Had no coffee or cigs for stimulation. Hope I don't have to do it again. The girl doing the test asked if I had a daughter. I think she thought I was carol's mom. She was student of mine years ago. She asked what I was going to Colorado for. I told her to smoke dope. lOL She was shocked. I told her it was legal there. She asked what would I have said years ago if my student would have said that? I should have answered..I'm not getting older, I'm getting better. I bet they have some primo weed there. Just kidding! Maybe.

Carol said...

I was really kidding in that last comment! Really! We will have a preteen with us. It's not an all adult group. We must behave like adults. Non hippy adolts.

Carol said...

Did enjoy shocking my old student. My rep for being a prud.

jan said...

Carol, am giggling at your joke on your former student. I am so excited that we will be able to get together. I look forward to meeting your friends too.

jan said...

We are leaving for home tomorrow morning. I have not seen this much rain in over 10 years. Honestly! I do hear that it has been raining in ABQ too.

jan said...

I don't know if we will fly again soon. We boarded Ryley. Big Mistake! She was not eating. My DIL picked her up and took her to our house and she and my grandson have been going over 4 times a day and feeding her and spending some time with her. She is eating fine now. We were going to stay until Sat. But we are concerned about her.

Carol said...

jan, I'm still laughing about it also. When she asked what I was going to do in Colorado, and I said, serious as a heart attack, "Smoke some dope", that was the last answer she expected. You should have seen her face. she said " oh, Ms Thornton". And I broke out laughing. There was another nurse or tech in there also. She got a laugh out of it also. I told them I worked k at the jail for 7 years.
I slept a lot yesterday. Now I'm wide awake and it's a little after 3

My students used to love to yank my chain back then. It's more fun with the shoe on the other foot.eq

Carol said...

I always got 10s on sense of humor on my teacher evaluations. Many ranked me as the best teacher they ever had. My friend frequently run into my x students who still tell them that. Georgia is frequently telling me that. She's proud of that. I just ran into one at SAMs and she told me that I was always her fav teacher. It's nice to hear. Makes all the hard work worth it. I did love teaching and I guess it showed.

Check this out.. Too cute for words.

Carol said...

Doc was pleased with my stress test results. She didn't care that I didn't get my heart rate up. Probably due to a therapeutic level of my beta nlocker. My student thought I may have to repeat the test using chemicals to increase my heart rate. Glad I didn't have to. Dont like the feeling they cause.

jan said...

Carol, you were one of the best teachers I have had the pleasure of teaching with. You were very well prepared for classes you taught and your presentations were fun and interesting. Students loved your lectures.

jan said...

I am happy you won't have to repeat your tests.

Carol said...

Thanks jan. You alway taught mr a lot.

Carol said...

And gave me confidence that I could do things. Wouldn't have made it without your encouragement. It takes a village

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol… it's great that you will be going on vacation and I'm glad that you and Jan will be able to meet up.
Retirement should be about enjoying life.
Colorado is such a beautiful state… been there a couple of times and I'm always in awe of the scenery.

Rick and I are leaving for a week on Cape Cod Massachusetts this coming Sunday. This is our 6th year going there at this time… it's become a much looked forward to ritual.

jan said...

Carol, I learned from you too. I learned more from our study sessions than any of our classes. You were the best woman friend I have ever had. John has been my best male friend. I think this is because I could trust you to be truthful with me. We had our differences at times but we could argue and be mad at each other and still be friends. You helped me "come" out of myself and deal with some fears. I would probably never have skiied or cannooed (can't spell either) if not for you. You taught me how to have fun and be more adventurous in outdoor stuff.

jan said...

Renee, Cape Cod sounds like a wonderful trip. It is so lovely to have those rituals that one has come to enjoy.

jan said...

Carol, I completely agree about "it takes a village." I know this because of my 2 older sons. They both have had so many good influential people in their lives who have played a big part in the men they have become. If I did anything positive as a mother I allowed them to spend time with other families and grandparents and uncles who have had a big part in their development. Unfortunately, Bob would not allow this with our youngest son. However, as an adult, he has found many influential people in his life who have helped him grow as a man and person.

Carol said...

We'll, jan and I are all set to meet up. We have all of our rooms along the way reserved. My niece knows we're coming. I haven't told Merrill's son and his wife yet. Hope they will be home .

jan said...

I can't believe we will finally get together.

Carol said...

I'm so excited, I just can't hide it. I'm about to lose control and I think I like it. Road trip!

I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow… I'll take my camera along also.

Have fun and be safe Renée.

We will get pics.

jan said...

Thanks for the link Carol. Love the music. After listening to I'm so Excited, I listened to "I will Survive" "Imagine" with John Lennon and a couple of songs by Adele. Enjoyed all of that.

Off to pick up Ryley. She is at the doggie beauty shop.

Carol said...

I need a hair cut also. I have so much to do before our vacay.

I need some clothes that fit.. I got 4 pairs a pants in size 8 the other day and they are too big. I need a 6 now. My moo lenium crunch diet is working the wrong way. Takiing off weight. Don't understand it.
